#I just had the coolest experience in the airport #got on the train to gates with a lady who doesn’t speak much English and was asking how to find her gate #another man was helping her but he had to go the other direction #so I asked if she wanted help and ended up accompanying her to her gate #(but first two perfume stores) #and we ended up taking glamor shots of each other in front of the store #and she hugged me goodbye and said I had been either a great help or an angel- not sure which bc the words sound similar #(we were communicating in a mixture of English and French/Haitian Creole bc I know tiny bits) #it was so sweet and lovely #truly felt God-appointed #I hope she has fun in Tokyo!!

i finished him- his full name is Figue grise de Saint Jean, but he calls himself Gris (grey in french, masculine). He’s a jewel beetle- specifically Chrysina batesi. I’ll draw his true form later- i know what i want for it, but haven’t found the right way to design it yet.

Gris is a peculiar character in the Fruitbugs game, given he speaks french and ONLY french- no matter the language chosen for the rest of the game. He seems to flately ignore the english coding, and it’s impossible to hack the game to make him speak english. Not only because it’s impossible coding-wise due to Gris being a sentient character like all other Fruitbugs, but also because even if it was possible to force him, his way of speaking is impossible to translate in english. Gris speaks in an extremely familiar french, with various pieces of patois (local words and expressions) from all over France and verlan (a type of slang that switches syllables- example bonjour becomes jourbon). He refuses to speak english himself, but he does answer somewhat to simple words and queries the player, NPCs or other Fruitbugs characters can have. He still answers in french though- but at least Gris DOES acknowledge non-french people. Plus one can always do non-verbal activities with him- though know that’ll he probably makes snarky comments (in french of course).

When he’s not annoying people with the language barrier, Gris is a model and poses for pictures, paintings and advertisments. But mostly the latter. He works for various brands within Fruitbugs, but mostly upmarket ones (such as Cucumber’s). This is a big contrast to his actual personality- while Gris in pictures is classy and seems almost like a perfect man, he actually is snarky, crude and has a distinctive annoying laugh (’rh rh rh’). He actually oftens make fun of the brands he works for, or even at the pictures of himself, commenting on how annoying the process of finding the right angle was, or feeling like he looks weird in certain angles and that ‘no real person would pose like this unironically’. Being with Gris could be easily be grating, with his near-constant comments on everything, his nonchalant, borderline disrespectful behavior, and complaining at the slightest sign of things not going his way. But one thing about Gris is that he’s always honest, and doesn’t beat around the bush- both with his words and actions. Which is not all that common in a video game where the player is almost treated like a god by the characters rather than a person with feelings. As flawed as Gris may be, he’s not actually mean and doesn’t criticize just to be annoying- he genuinely believes everyone and everything has the ability to improve if they choose to. That being said, Gris LOVES to complain and have someone to listen or, better, complain WITH him. If one chooses to look past his flaws, Gris is very dedicated in a nonchalant way- he’ll let the player do what they want and, if he likes them, know they’ll do the right thing(s).
