“I can’t do this… You deserve happiness… you deserve to have your youth…. But… I’m scared of what will happen if I let you go…” Her words were filled with pain and fear. Fear of the known and the unknown. “Zelda…” he was still holding onto her shoulders, but now gently wrapped his arms around her. The young royal saw that kind and caring face of his and remembered their youth. The little boy who was listening to her and made her laugh with masks from the market. Could she really take away the childhood of this adorable little boy? Maybe the Zelda of the past would still be open to be happy with him. And yet the thought was too much. She cried into his shoulder, trying hard to contain herself, but it was impossible. The tears refused to stop. All while Link still held her. Seeing this scene unfold, Link’s trusted companion Navi flew around them, leaving a trail of sparkles in her wake, like a line circling around the pair. “Princess, I.. I don’t know what is happening, but I’m here for you.” “Link..” She looked into his eyes. Throughout all of this, she was making choices. For her Kingdom and for him. But did Link ever have a choice?
Happy Valentine's Day! What you are currently witnessing is an official artwork AND a writing snippet from The Legend of Zelda: Remnants of the Past - Chapter 1. Coming very soon!
Tloz: ROTP is a sequel to Ocarina of Time, in the same way that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are in their respective timelines, with this one being set on the 4th timeline, where Zelda ended up not sending the Hero of Time back to his childhood. While ROTP is actually mainly the story of a new Link and and a new Zelda, their adventure is set in a world created by Link and Zelda from Ocarina of Time, who rebuilt Hyrule in their image. So Oot Zelink is canon to this 🥰

on dearth of sensations | un.
( alright since i can’t be bothered rewording everything nicely, i’m just gonna copy and paste the entire post regarding this headcanon from my super old blog.
( this is just a little post following up on that little tidbit i have on the dossier page about this nameless twat of a muse not being able to properly feel things when the triforce is split to inhabit a vessel each respective part deems worthy. )
( let’s talk about the triforce itself. we all know that it’s the remnant of the three golden goddesses’ might and power when they ascended into the skies to return to the realm from whence they came after creating hyrule (and possibly lorule), and is the ultimate source of power partially because of this. partially. it is mentioned in albw that when the triforce is destroyed, so too is the land it ‘governs’. the land itself is not obliterated, but it falls into ruins and is no longer capable of flourishing. this implicates the existence of some sort of symbiosis between the land and its triforce; the triforce sustains the land and i’d like to believe that, in return, the land grants the triforce a portion of its limitless power (i.e. power deriving from the triforce is given to the land which is then returned to the triforce and so on and so on). it’s basically eternal compromise and concession — a perpetual cycle of ‘give and take’. so long as the triforce lives, so will its land and vice versa.
( anyhow, i’d like to think that each of the three pieces incorporated in the triforce cooperate and collaborate with one another to properly reach and retain this massive power, which sort of explains why wishes can only be granted by the triforce when all three pieces are together — that’s when its fullest potential is attained.
( if we follow this logic and label the collective triforce as an ‘apparatus’ and its three pieces as its ‘body parts’, we could probably surmise that the pieces (power, wisdom, and courage) work together in the same way as the heart, mind, and soul does in the spiritual body. so when the pieces are split and no longer cooperating with one another, it’s very much like splitting the heart, mind, and soul in someone so they can no longer function together — hence inhibiting the realisation of their fullest potential.
( let’s talk about power. the word ‘power’ has a very foreboding sort of connotation behind it and is typically associated with physical, as well as social and political, strength. of course, with ganondorf being the very quintessence of said strength, it is no wonder why he possesses the triforce of power.
( power can also be associated with fleeting, uncontrollable things like life and passion. after all, power is strength and there lies much strength in ungovernable feelings and cruel life itself. and what are these two things closely associated with most, if not all, of the time? the heart. which is why when the triforce is split, this nameless deity’s ability to detect their heartbeat and essentially their life disappears.
( now let’s move on to wisdom! when someone describes someone else as ‘wise’, you immediately think of a person with bountiful knowledge and experience. in a way, that’s what being wise is, but it can be said that there is also another meaning to it. being able to discern changes in your external and internal surroundings and react accordingly to them is also something that is considered wise, right? and what is wisdom always associated with? the mind — a very appropriate association since the mind is usually what’s doing the perceiving of changes and all.
( but how can you determine what’s happening externally when you can’t even do so internally? when the triforce of power is separated from the triforce of wisdom, heart and mind are no longer linked. the same goes with triforce of courage — mind and soul are no longer linked. if you can’t even detect your own heartbeat — the one thing you should always be able to do regardless of any physical ailments — how can you effectively detect anything else within your surroundings? following this v skewed logic but really who cares tloz is a fantasy series nothing has to make complete sense, this nameless deity consequently loses the ability to perceive touch and external feelings to a satisfactory degree when the triforce is split. and i say to a satisfactory degree because they can still feel things and all, but only because they can feel the pressure on their skin.
( oh boy, now let’s talk about courage. when someone says ‘courage’, you immediately think of bravery, right? because that’s what courage is — bravery and strength in the face of danger and/or pain. if you think of it from another angle, courage is also pushing through your feelings even when they’re completely and utterly against you, and can be measured through your will and tenacity; hence why it is the ‘soul’ of the triforce. the soul works along both mind (which primarily receives external sensations) and heart (which primarily receives internal sensations) to achieve ‘courage’.
( which is why this nameless deity also loses the ability to properly feel and express emotions when power, wisdom, and courage are separated from each other. how can you show courage when you don’t possess the feelings required to do so?
( god this is super long and really obnoxiously worded, but tl;dr: the triforce can’t feel their own heartbeat, feelings, or properly perceive touch when it’s split and housed as three completely distinct pieces. it’s only when all such pieces come together that the triforce can do all of the mentioned above. )

The King and Queen of the Past
Oot Zelink? Canon in a story that is not mainly about them!?! It's more likely than you think!
The Legend of Zelda: Remnants of the Past - Official Concept Art
Tumblr media
In the 4th timeline, Oot Link and Zelda effectively play a role similar to Sonia and Rauru in TOTK, creating a reformed Hyrule that becomes the world that ROTP Link and Zelda are born into.
Read their story here:
The King and Queen of the Past Three years after the events of Ocarina of Time, Queen Zelda was living in a timeline without Link, the Hero of Time whom she had sent back to his childhood to regain his lost years. She had to rebuild Hyrule and ended up marrying Prince Ferdinand of Hytopia for political reasons, which led to the birth of a child. Yet visions of the future, not too different from the ones she had when she was young, foretold the doom of Hyrule and the return of Ganon with no hero to save the day. The more time passed, the more severe these visions became. Filled with regret and fear, Queen Zelda ended up taking action in a drastic and perhaps not thought-out way. She played the Ocarina of time and manipulated time once more, sending herself back in time to the point of Ganon’s defeat. The fate of the Hero of Time and Hyrule was in her hands. As hard as the decision was to make, she ultimately gave him the choice. Relive his childhood and prevent all that happened in the first place, or stay in a Hyrule that was in ruins. The Hero of Time chose to stay. A decision that would change the outcome of Hyrule’s fate, but  with a twist, as Zelda had simply created another timeline. The child timeline was already made and the adult timeline would continue existing without her, but with her already born descendant. If she was aware of the fact, that her bloodline would still have to face the downfall of a Hyrule without a hero? Now in a new timeline, Zelda tried her best to help Link be comfortable in this situation. She gave him all the resources and time he needed to mentally grow and adjust to his body, while he helped rebuild the Kingdom. But once that was done, he asked for her hand. She accepted and the Hero of Time became the new King of Hyrule, to reign alongside his Queen Zelda. Together they worked hard to create a Hyrule in their vision. A stronghold against evil. The best Hyrule possible. Yet as the years passed, the possibility of Ganon’s return not happening in their lifetime became more and more clear. Thus Queen Zelda and King Link made sure to leave enough of their knowledge for the future generations, hoping that a new Hero and a new princess would rise to fight Ganon when the time came. Another dream-like vision gave the royal couple even more hope that this would happen. Indeed Ganon did not return during their lifetime and Link and Zelda were able to live out their days in peace, even if with a bit of a lasting fear for the future. Said fear led to them creating a place in limbo, between life and afterlife, where they could assist their successors from beyond the grave. Their efforts led to them being remembered well into the future, still being spoken of as the King and Queen of the past, despite having many monarchs coming after them. And so, when many generations later the return of Ganon was imminent, a new hero named Link and a new Princess Zelda were born to face him. That was the time for the King and the Queen of the Past to awaken their spirits and aid their successors. Although both lived to a proud old age, they chose to take a younger spiritual form that represented a happy time in their lives: Their honeymoon.
Incase you haven't, make sure to check out Chapter 1 of ROTP! A part of this is explained in even more detail. Available on ao3.

Linktober Day 22: NPC
The Legend of Zelda: Remnants of the Past Concept Art
Meet Aron and Maron, descendants of a certain horse loving NPC from Ocarina of Time. Read their story below:
Tumblr media
The Ranch Owners Aron and his Mother Maron run the Ron Ron Ranch, once named Lon Lon Ranch. It was changed when the owner of the past Malon married a skilled archer of the Hylian army named Arod. They had a daughter named Aeron, who led to a new naming convention that continued several generations later with Maron and Aron. Maron has always been a strong woman. Her husband was a deadbeat father to their son, which made her send him away. Some believe that the white streak running through her otherwise brown hair is a sign of all her hard work, but it was something she had since birth. It was rumored that her ancestor Arod was of the Sheikah, as his hair had always been white. While never confirmed, that white hair sometimes still showed itself in the next generations one way or another. Strong as she was, she brought Ron Ron Ranch to new glory. She opened an inn that became very popular for travellers and locals alike. Not just for its cozy ranch ambience, but also because of Maron’s amazing cooking. While she does welcome everyone, treating them like family, one really shouldn’t get on her bad side. They will regret it. Aron on the other hand was always more of a peaceful soul. His mother kept telling people how much of a breeze he was to raise. While they have several helping hands around the ranch, he still helps his mother where he can, as he used to do when growing up. While he isn’t always the brightest, his big heart certainly makes up for it. Perhaps that explains why he likes showing off his chest so much? Then again his mother isn’t too different when it comes to showing cleavage. Either way, he loves being around people, although one has to be careful as he tends to flirt without even being aware of it. Their ancestors, mainly Malon, once helped the hero of the past, the hero of time. It is certain that history will repeat itself once the hero of the present, the hero of hope meets these two.

OFFICIAL TITLE AND PLOT REVEAL: The Legend of Zelda - Remnants of the Past
I've teased my original Zelda story for a bit and now I'm finally revealing what it is about! It'll be a mixture of writing and game-like pixel art. I wanted to reveal this right before Linktober, as I might show more concepts during the month.
Chapter 1 Release Date: TBA
Read the plot on the second picture, or down below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Set on a 4th timeline split from Ocarina of Time, the King and Queen of the past (who are in fact Link, the Hero of Time and Zelda, the Princess of Destiny from the events of Ocarina of Time) prophesied the return of Ganon, who had once brutally taken over Hyrule until being defeated by them. As Ganon was not to return in their lifetime, they ended up leaving several clues and remnants of their knowledge, in hope to one day guide potential successors from beyond the afterlife.
Generations passed by and since in this timeline the hero of time had not been sent back in time to relive his childhood, his spirit was eventually reborn into the body of a new young hero, also named Link. Fate brought him to be present at the birthday celebration of the young princess of Hyrule, also named Zelda. Like her ancestor, she had a bit of an idea of what was to come. Paired with strange occurrences all over Hyrule, Zelda felt that the dawn of Ganon’s return was upon them, although not everyone was willing to believe the teenage princess yet. After all Hyrule had seen a pleasant and strong era of peace that seemed almost endless.
Luckily Link was on her side and willing to help her plan out a way to convince everyone, especially the King of Hyrule. And they would not be alone. While Zelda would research the history of her ancestors, Link would gain the support of the Oracles of Courage, Wisdom and Power, but also the descendants of people who had once aided the Hero of Time in the past.
Yet once Ganon did return, something happened that no one could have expected…
In another timeline, one without a hero, Hyrule ended up being destroyed forever. Would history repeat itself, or could the fate of Hyrule be changed? It was in the hands of the hero of hope, the princess of the present and their allies."

Update on my Zelda ROTP Overworld Sprite Set.
Tumblr media
Missing are some more cliff corners, maybe a cave entrance and river shores. Once that is done, I can start building maps.
Since everything else relies on having basic nature, it is important to make this first. I also changed the tree crowns. Might make them a bit darker but overall I like them more now. Look more leafy.

So I didn't know canon character x OC was a common way of shipping, but I'm glad it is. I'm always team Zelink but I don't like loose ends so....
Meet Arod, a skilled archer of the Hylian Army, who ends up marrying Malon, the beautiful ranch girl from Ocarina of Time.
Tumblr media
Arod and Malon are especially prominent in the 4th timeline (where my Zelda story 'TLoZ: Remnants of the Past' is set on) but I see him with her in any timeline. In the 4th timeline however, their bloodline creates the ROTP side characters Maron and her son Aron who run the ranch as Ron Ron Ranch many generations later.
Have some 4th Timeline specific info on Arod and this relationship:
He originates from an ungoverned area outside of Hyrule
He doesn't know for sure, but it is rumored (or pretty clear) that his family is of the Sheikah, due to their white hair and red eyes. But they have lost the knowledge of their tribe.
Arod is a highly skilled archer, a skill he has practiced since childhood
He came to Hyrule during the period of reconstruction post-Oot, after news of what happend spread to neighboring places.
Eventually he joined the Hylian army, which was being reformed by Impa and the Hero of Time.
He butted heads a lot with Link and teased him a lot.... even though Link is his literal trainer.
Arod is VERY cocky. He thinks very highly of himself and brags a lot. Unfortunately for the people around him, his archery skills do kinda give him those bragging rights. He can be very sweet with the right people.
Because of his archery skills, he is also nicknamed 'Sniper' in the Hylian army.
He first saw Malon when she made a shipment of goods to the construction site and instantly fell for her.
But Malon was heartbroken because she had feelings for Link and Link, while caring for her, was clearly destined for Zelda. So Arod found it hard to approach her.
Once Link found out Arod was into Malon, he set them up to meet more often by causing random coincidences where they'd have to spend a bit of time together.
It worked! Arod and Malon became familiar and Arod eventually offered to work on the farm after trainings. Over all that, Malon eventually realized she didn't love Link, but she loved what he did for her. What she felt for Arod, that was true love.
Arod literally became the knight to sweep Malon of her feet, as Malon always wished for.
Link and Malon became better friends over this. Link and Zelda eventually became official too and both couples became super close.
Because Link and Arod still tease each other, Malon and Zelda joked that their men are gay for each other and anytime the guys would tease another, one of the girls would go "Go get a room!" Arod clearly didn't care enough about the fact that Link became King to stop messing with him.
The children of Malon and Arod would call Zelda and Link auntie and uncle. The children of Link and Zelda would do the same with the other couple.
Though despite that, one child of Zelink would actually eventually fall in love with one child of Marod. I headcanon that this also happens in the child timeline and there this new couple would lead to TP Link's bloodline (Like, the Zelink child leaves the throne to a sibling to stay on the farm with the Marod child, thus TP Link who is their descendant doesn't end up as a royal)

Since TLOZ: Remnants of the Past is set in a world built by Oot Zelink in the 4th timeline, I wanna write a prequel that is published alongside ROTP. Why? Because despite both being deeply intertwined, we only find out bits and pieces of what oot zelink did to prepare the world for ROTP Link and Zelda. It's the same way how we see memories in BOTW/TOTK and that doesn't tell the full story.
The prequel would be writing only, at most maybe have some sketches like my Sonia Rauru story (but probably even less sketches) which makes it a lot less work heavy.
ROTP is more like a readable Zelda game (with some extra themes not focused on much in games, like trauma, romance and other things)
The Prequel would be more romance based. It's the story of how oot Zelink cope with their past, rebuilt Hyrule and become one, but also how they prepare the world for their future. But both went through a lot, so their path is not easy. People think a timeline where Link was not sent back means its easy mode for oot Zelink to blossom instantly, but nope, there is more to me.
.... Too bad I have no prequel name yet :')

Linktober Day 21: Link
The Legend of Zelda: Remnants of the Past Concept Sketch:
The Hero of Time and the Hero of Hope
Tumblr media
Two Links, Two Heroes, One Spirit.
Although the Hero of Hope is not related by blood to the Hero of Time, they still share a very special bond across time. ROTP is set generations after OOT on a 4th timeline split, so them meeting might seem impossible. But is it really?
