Fanfic Resurrection

Okay, so I feel like I am finally feeling this little tingle of wanting to return to fanfiction and to finish some of my stories. I haven't done what I usually do to get fully back into the mood, which is to skim a whole fic and then open the drafts of the rest of it to start typing. I figured, this time - since I have several stories in various stages of progress - I would see if anyone else has a particular fic they are really wanting to see finished first.

Here are my current, unfinished stories in the Osblaine (Nick Blaine/June Osborne of The Handmaid's Tale) fandom:

D R I V E After the events of the season 4 finale, Nick makes the most difficult decision of his life in an attempt to protect June and save Hannah.

This fic has about 6 chapters left to finish the story. I have a sequel planned, but it doesn't really need to be done right after the original is completed.

Mysterious Bruises After a series of tragedies, June and Nick cross paths in Boston. (June/Nick fake dating AU. Gilead does not exist.)

This fic has about 4 chapters left to finish the story.

H A U N T E D When a mysterious serial killer tries to murder June on Halloween, Nick curses himself to an alternate reality to save her, knowing he will forget her. (Nick & June meet in a distant future. Gilead does not exist.)

This fic has 1 chapter left to finish the story, but it's been a tough one and will be long.

S T A Y This is a bed sharing college AU. The plan is to write each chapter in only one sitting with basically no editing. It'll be shorter than my other fics.

This fic has about 3-4 chapters left to finish the story. I only ever posted one chapter, intending for it to be the beginning of a series of reference stories, based on my favorite fics in the two other fandoms I've been a part of over the years - Harry Potter and The X-Files.

Where You Are While touring Europe on a journalism internship, June Osborne meets Nick Blaine, the driver hired to chauffeur her group for the summer.

This is a super fluffy AU with maybe as many as 10-12 more chapters. The outline for this one is a lot more vague, so it's harder for me to know how long it will go.

S A V I O R When June learns of Nick's imprisonment, she puts together a plan to get him out of Gilead once and for all. Post-season 5.

This fic has about 5-7 chapters left to finish the story.

Okay, so I'm listing my all-time favorites below (mostly on FFN since it's been YEARS since I've been plugged into this fandom).

As for my stuff *buries head* this ridiculous ass fic that I wrote when I was FOURTEEN is my main claim to fame (it's trash but also still kinda slaps?). BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON A TON OF NEW STUFF. I have six fics coming out this month through the @romione-trope-fest (btw the best active Romione writers are participating in that fest, so you should definitely follow it if you haven't been already! Here's the AO3 collection for the fest.).

ALSO I saw that you are a Renaissance fan. I have one that's 50% done called "Virgo's Groove" and it takes place in the seventh book when Lupin announces Teddy's birth. I can share a snippet tomorrow if you'd like 🙂

Okay enough self promo lol. On to my recs!

Seven Simple Years by HalfASlug (FFN): Best Romione missing moments series ever. I think HalfASlug has the best Ron voice. Everything she's ever written for Romione is worth reading.

Moments by Armaysha (FFN): Another missing moments (I'm a sucker for those) that I feel kind of mixed about, even though it's still one of my favs. The writer has a different take on Romione than most of the fandom. It generally works IMO, but some of the choices she made I really didn't understand. But what she did well, she did really, really well.

I Must Not Tell Lies by TMBlue (FFN): I think this is the best one-shot of Romione's first fuck. TMBlue is GREAT at writing Ron and she's like the queen of Romione smut.

Six Foot of Ginger Idiot by Pinky Brown (FFN): This classic is HBP from Ron's perspective. Pinky Brown is another iconic Ron writer. You can't go wrong with anything she's written, but Biscuits (her missing moments series starting in Book 1) starts dragging in the last few chapters IMO.

Australia by MsBinns (FFN): Post-war series, arguably the greatest Romione fic of all time. To be totally honest, I didn't finish it because it does kind of drag. But I'm always meaning to get back into it. Just know that it's heavy.

Love Me Forever by Aloemilk (AO3/FFN): I JUST read this and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a post-war series that has a great mix of angst, trauma, and fluff (lighter than Australia). The slow burn from Romione's first kiss to a full-fledged adult relationship is perfect and the smut is SO GOOD. Reminds me of the time I stumbled upon porn that made me ugly cry (in a good way?)

Not single fics but thesecondself and realmer06 (both on FFN, although realmer06's next gen stuff is also on AO3) are my favorite one-shot writers.

Fanfiction - Light On “SAVIOR” by TMBlue

I read the first chapters of SAVIOR by TMBlue. All I can say it is just: ❤️❤️❤️

Quotations. Nick’s jail cell was freezing, a sharp feeling of ice in the air as he huddled under a thin, scratchy wool blanket, attempting sleep. Occasionally, a metallic clanking sound off in the distance would break the silence, fully rousing him again.

In three days, he had been told almost nothing about what was going on, and it felt bitterly similar to the treatment Lawrence had received. But he knew there would be questioning, which inevitably meant a transfer to a different facility.

He was never going to talk about June or Nichole, and if they found no other reason to keep him alive, he had be dead sooner or later.

I’ve always been an EMO. As a kid all I had was oldies on the radio. And this song is my favorite thing: HAPPY SOUNDING MUSIC 😃 with devastatingly sad lyrics. That’s my shit. AND the songs literally about that masking shit. Nick Blaine energy. Crying and repressing it. Wondering why everyone is fooled bc ur dying inside.

Song that has many meanings to me:

1. My best friends in highschool played this in a basement the night I met my Ex. The lead singer had just been dumped and was shooting daggers at the girl who broke his heart every time he said “heartbreaker” 😫

2. One of my favorite karaoke songs - hubby and I can play it as a band! Drums guitar vocals

3. It’s about alcoholism. Being the son of an alcoholic step dad. Who got sober. Congratufuckinglations. Still hate you and how you ruined my life 🤷🏼‍♀️ emo af. Sounds happy /devestating lyrics

4. 1st Weezer song I ever heard. All time fave bands. Thankful for this song.

3. What’s hilarious here is - he’s bragging about hurting ppl. Which would be shock rock if he was serious- but he’s playing the role of an earnest Serial killer- like if Ted Bundy had a band where he sang about offing ppl. It’s such a cool angle.

4) What was the first concert I went to?

When is was 14 I went with my mom to see Lionel Richie...she won the tickets and I had never been to a show because I grew up poor, so it was a real treat! The seats were really good too! (And yes I’m old)

8) What is my favorite song from the year I was born?

Again, I am old, there are so many sentimental faves from that year but my real favorite is “Brandy” by Looking Glass...I can never NOT listen to it! Plus my bestest bestie is Brandy and I sing it to her all the time!

10) What is my favorite 80s movie?

You know you just opened up an entire can of worms here, don’t you! For those who don’t know, I am movie freak! I actually worked in a video store in HS and college so there aren’t many 80s movies I have not seen. I could have entire NCAA style bracket for this one!

Technically 3, but really it's all Harry Potter with 2 "crossovers" which are really RomioneComs: 50 First Dates (complete) and Juno (WIP)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I'm only just really climbing aboard the angst train, though I guess The Pureblood Knight is a bit angsty...But, while not finished, I'd have to say that Brown Eyes & Spice, one of my new WIPs is definitely my angstiest yet.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I think I'll have to go with Just One Drink. That's just a whole load of fluff and smuff and sweet sweet feel good happiness.

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Are we counting ROMioneCOMs (Romione RomComs) as crossovers? Cause those are the only crossovers I've dabbled in lol. And none super crazy, but 50 First Dates was definitely fun, and I'm enjoying one of my current WIPs Cleats (Juno). I also have a few more planned...I guess the craziest will be....shhhh I'll wait on that.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Meh, just a bit of Hermione hate and there was a smidge of Ron hate. No hate on my actual writing. But I'm not at all opposed to the delete button. Rainbows and sunshine people!!!

YES!!! And what kind? uh...smuff (smutt & fluff) mostly I guess? No kinks or anything along those lines. Not yet anyway.... I may have a kink for Ron's growl though....

I definitely have plans to finish all my current (3) WIPS, even and especially Mine (though I have no idea when and how that will end!) But I have so many ideas I've half-started that I have no idea if I'll ever get to, including one centered around Neville and one of my very first Romione ideas that I already wrote 2 chapters for!

What are your writing strengths?

Visualizing scenes and writing dialogue in the character's voice I'd say.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing out the amazing scene that I visualized while I was driving or showering or otherwise unable to write at the moment! By the time I get to write it down, I done forgot it all *cry face*

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I would if I could!!!

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

The last thing she wanted to do was go up to her dorm and face Hermione’s smug look when she found out Ron ditched his girlfriend tonight, but she wasn’t about to hang around the common room like a rejected piece of garbage.

So, this is from "Lover" which was my Lavender POV 5+1 fic i wrote for Canon Fest. I really enjoyed writing this story because it gave a fresh perspective on something we don't see very often. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a good story that makes Lav out to be this evil b*tch sometimes, but something possessed me and made me want to explore her emotions and vulnerability. She's not often given a voice, and I was SUPER proud of how I was able to portray the deterioration of her relationship with Ron in this one.

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

This is so hard. like, so SO hard. because I have so many writers that I love and adore.

1. @remedialpotions - Early on, when I discovered fanfiction (as a lurker), she was one of the first authors I came across, in addition to all the romione staples (which by the way, I think she's also one, so please don't read that wrong). I still go back and read her fics every now and then (and I don't do that often!). There's just something about the way she captures these two idiots and her stories are always so captivating <3

2. @mppmaraudergirl - literally addicted to her stories. Always eagerly awaiting updates and I just strive so hard to capture Jily as well as she does! The way she can craft pining and slow burn into a multichapter story is simply amazing and just...#jilygoals.

3. I'd have to say either jesrod82 or TMBlue. Just two staple romione authors whose stories always bring a smile to my face even through all the painful angst.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

So, every single comment I get makes my day and I can't thank the people (including you!) enough for taking the time to send me something <3. But I always absolutely love the keyboard smashing and ALL CAPS reviews like this recent one from KatyK on Knead:
