@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
I THINK the theory is that John's closest friends became the Necros, and their companions/spouses/relatives became the cavs...and he would rather spend 10,000 years with the former than the latter...so THEY got to be Necros, with the power, and then Lyctors.
Oh, I don't mean that the cavaliers should have been the necromancers or anything like that, I mean that it would have worked out better if the necromancers had wound up in the cavaliers' bodies, they still would have been the same people, just in different bodies
Heh. AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and Emma Sen (MSN Messenger). Also, I think Pash expected We Suffer to be executed by BoE, or a faction at least.
Oh, that's incredibly silly, I hope there's more to it than that. Anyway, AIM is the name of the messaging system, not the name of a message
I originally thought that was what Pash meant, but then We Suffer started saying goodbye to everyone like she wasn't going to see them again
Some speculation is that the message is 'too simple for typical humans to understand' is because it is a binary message of 1s and 0s, but I think that's a stretch.
@jods-duplicitous-sluts:
There are also theories about the message being incoded in RNA or DNA... so too simple [building block of life] but also unable for a human to understand without tech to decode it.
The DNA/RNA idea is pretty interesting. There's also the chip that Palamedes found that still hasn't been explained yet
Also Paul is planning on coming back for the 6th house. The actual station and all the population are still on the outskirts of the system. Hence the "see you soon"
But they're probably not going back into the tunnel under New Rho, though, right? Nona described all of the oversight board getting put back into the truck
@turtletotem:
Kind of the only way I can deal with Paul's existence is by thinking of them as Palamedes and Camilla's child. Maybe they think of themself that way, too, thus calling P & C "them" instead of "we."
Yeah, that sounds like a good way to think of it

There's such a huge age difference between Tom and Janeway, though! It's hard for me to believe they really intended a romance between a guy and a woman old enough to be his mother. 90s TV was not that brave.
That's a good point, especially in the 90s when they treat a 40-year-old woman like she's already, I dunno they're senior citizens. The panic people get on TV when they reach their 30s is unbelievable, and one, unfortunately, I internalized.
Still, I think maybe the potential of romantic frisson might be something that the actors might have come up with.
It's interesting to wonder what Genevieve Bujold's Janeway's vibe was like with Tom Paris. I feel that would have less romantic vibes, I think Kathryn Janeway's genuine enjoyment of Tom Paris's bad-boy vibe might be all Kate Mulgrew.
"90s TV was not that brave."
Truer words!

Fan theory: Kiriona’s heart is missing because Harrow ate it to complete the ascension process (step six: consume the flesh). Personally I find it unlikely but compelling.
OK I don't think Harrow ate her whole heart just because it's so unpractical but Tamsyn is nothing but a tumblr girlie at heart so frankly I can see it. It compels me but not that much in the grand scheme of griddlehark fuckery

As lovely as the ending to AMLAIT is, I can't help thinking that surely it's inevitable Catra will outlive Adora, and everyone else she knows that can only die once. Or maybe a natural death of old age would "stick"? Does Catra age at a normal rate?
oh god no she's not immortal. she ages at a normal rate (otherwise she would still be 11), and if she reaches the point of a natural death, it's essentially a wall. when she gets hit by the car, she heals and gets back up. another car doesn't hit her, because that was a one time incident. if her health decays, she overcomes the death, but she heals to the state she was right before, aka half-dead. at most, it buys her... days, more likely hours or minutes. she won't outlive anyone. I'm not getting into that angst

Ahuhuhu! A second endorsement! Well now I’m even more interested in checking it out.
Normally I might say that this gives it a bit of priority, but the way I do things, all the albums end up in a randomizer wheel. So there’s still equal chances for it or something else to come up in the shuffle, but I’ll look forward to it anyway!
Like I said, next phase tentatively scheduled for June ❤️

Have you ever played Marrying Mr. Darcy? It's a bit like constructing a wild P&P alternate universe with the help of your friends and pure chance, and I find it great fun.
I have! My good friend @tulinlina found it for me when it first came out, and though that version was damaged in a move, a grad school friend from my MA program was reminded of me and got it for me (not knowing anything about the other version!).
I really enjoy it, both as a game in its own right and the way it takes on P&P (even if I'm predictably *mutter mutter* about some of the more fanon-y character designs). Like, the idea that if you play as Lydia and try to marry Darcy, you actually lose points—that's a lot of fun.

25, 28, 57, 91. Charles and Erik only know each other online through their fanfic. They decide to road trip to a con together, but when they get to the hotel there’s only one bed!
They take turns driving the 12+ hours it takes to get from New York to Chicago, and it's alternately the most thrilling and the most aggravating experience Charles has ever had in his entire life. It's a pleasant surprise at first to find that Erik - or Magneto, as Charles has known him for the past five years - is every bit as smart and acerbically funny in real life as he is online. Unfortunately, he's also just as opinionated and moody, which is much less tolerable when you can't get away from it by simply turning off the computer. There's no changing his mind about anything - not music, food, politics, or the best Star Trek captain (obviously Picard not Kirk) - and Charles is rapidly regretting the impulse to reach out and offer to meet and hang together at this year's Ace Comic Con Midwest.
(If not for their Meet and Greet with Chris Evans aka Captain America - who just happens to play THE BEST AVENGER and the only thing they've agreed on in their entire offline acquaintance thus far - Charles might have been tempted much earlier to turn the car around and head straight back to New York.)
As it is, after 15 hours on the road, then trying to find parking, navigating through hordes of fellow convention goers with their luggage and waiting almost an hour to check-in, Charles is ready to scream when the front desk clerk tells him that they've lost his room reservation.
"Why don't you just bunk with me?" Erik says with a shrug, like sharing a room is the same as sharing a car, and it's no big deal that they'd also have to share a Queen bed. Like it's just so easy not to stare at your companion's broad shoulders and rugged good looks, and not imagine them pinning you down and kissing you senseless before ravishing you on the (omg there's only one!) bed. "I promise I don't bite."
It's going to be a very long two days, Charles thinks, as he follows Erik towards the bank of elevators to 'their' room on the second floor.
Drop a ship (or threesome, poly, etc.) along with 2 to 4 elements in my askbox to request a mini fic!

Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?
Mermista! I don’t really think that people hate her or anything but there’s barely any content of her. If people give her a prominent role in fics she’s mostly angry and sometimes very cruel to Catra. She doesn’t have to like Catra/the Horde soldiers immediately or anything but she also isn’t a mean and cruel person.
I like her a lot because she’s desi, sarcastic, dramatic and she has cool water powers.
What is the purest ship in the fandom?
Scorfuma! Perfuma is so supportive of Scorpia and she actually stands up for her multiple times which is exactly what poor Scorpia needed.
Most shippable character?
For me it’s Mermista because I ship her with Sea Hawk, Adora, Perfuma, Catra, Bow and Lonnie

You may have noticed my blog has been taken over by Gideon the Ninth aka The Locked Tomb series, which are extremely intricate, original, and freakin' weird books about lesbian necromancers in space. Do you remember the whole Seer-and-Shield concept you wrote stucky fic about back in the day? They have a similar dynamic going with Necromancer & Cavalier, just in case you're interested!
I read the first one and liked it, and then for some reason never got around to the next one! But I should.
I loved the world-building and the lesbians and the wry narrative voice and the general fantastically original weirdness - there's nothing else I've ever read quite like it.
(...also, WOW, that's a Stucky fic call-back! I had actually nearly forgotten I'd written that one! Sometimes I try to write more heavily science-fiction-y things, and I'm never quite sure how well it's worked, but I remember liking a lot of my individual specific lines in that one, I think? It was an idea that wanted out, in any case, so I wrote it!)

@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
'baby-soft skin hammocks'...from a necromancer..gives me the icks.
I mean, I don't think it's any more gross/weird than a lot of other stuff that has happened in the book so far. John already wears baby fingerbones in his hair for adornment
I find it fascinating that John says he could cure cancer....and yet we have Cytherea...
@turtletotem:
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess John could have cured Cytherea :) at any time :) instead of letting her suffer for 10,000 years :)))) no wonder she wanted him dead
Oh wow, I didn't make that connection, but yeah, he could have. But instead he really was just like, the only way for you to live is if you become a Lyctor and help me kill resurrection beasts while you suffer from cancer for 10,000 years. I can't imagine what he was thinking, but I also have no idea what he was thinking by just letting the other Lyctors think that the cavalier had to die to achieve Lyctorhood
@eye-lantern:
For the Jesus comparison the nurse gave: she isn't saying it was what made the Romans kill him. Jesus (in the texts) knew that he gave too much for his own good. And he knew the Romans would kill him and he knew Judas would betray him. But he did it anyway because he gave himself to others entirely, even if I meant it killed him. She is saying John needs take care of himself even if it meant refusing to help some people, or he would die wich doesn't help anyone.
Which makes an interesting parallel with the actual Jesus parallel that is Griddle, who died for someone on the iron fence instead of a wooden cross,for someone that would have preferred her to live even if it meant not receiving her help. Gideon spends the entire first book helping everyone, without asking for anything in return, and it litteraly kills her. Maybe twice if we consider avultion. John may have had the apostles but Gideon had the self-sacrificial drive
Oh, right, I guess the sort of canonical interpretation is that Jesus died in order to save everyone else, etc. That is an interesting parallel, I wonder, since presumably Gideon is getting brought back to life at some point, probably by John I would guess, if John is ever going to tell her this story and this particular piece of advice he received?
I don't know if Jod is dreaming with her. To me it could absolutely have happened and she is just dreaming of a memory. The narrator never says something out of place, except for calling him lord, and he only says Harrow. Everything else could be an actual event where names are "translated" to something that makes more sense to harrow, and the crossed-out names are not replaced because she has no idea what to replace it by
@racefortheironthrone:
My interpretation is that Harrow is semi-lucid dreaming Alecto's memories.
That's true, I guess, this could just all be Alecto's memory. But if John telling Alecto this story actually happened, I guess that means Alecto was not around to perceive it at all while it was happening?
@eye-lantern:
I do like that we can get a vague time frame and something more of John's religious background when says he went to Parachute when he was younger. So he's most likely a Millenial or Gen Xer (since it seems that festival was from the early 90s to 2014). Not sure that says anything deep about him, but I find it interesting.
Ahh, that part didn't mean anything to me, haha. That's interesting, though, I'd sort of expected this story to be happening further in the future than that, like the way he is describing people's thoughts about climate change don't really align with the way they are currently, I don't think, it feels like this is happening at a later date, and John isn't described as looking old in the story. Like, if John is Gen X, he'd be 40 at the absolute minimum right now, in 20 years from now he'd be 60+, and I had the impression that this had to be least like 20 years in the future

Musings about this reblog by @turtletotem about the original Lyctors experimenting with souls to make Teacher and the other priests
Maybe the reason they were experimenting with cramming more souls into a body is because they had so many resurrectable souls whose bodies were vaporized in the various nuclear blasts. Maybe, in their own way, they wanted to help—to bring these people back. But they had no bodies to reanimate, so they experimented with having them share.
This gave me a thought: ok but is this where Ulysses and Titania came from?
Because. They were one of the original Lyctor/cavalier pairs after the Resurrection. But before the extinction event, they were already dead. They were part of John’s cryo project, that went on for a while before getting shut down over a year before The End, so they must have been dead for about 5 years. Definitely dead for longer than John had his powers, absolutely dead long before he figured out how to sense souls. So where did their souls come from? I’ve been wondering about this for a while but. You’re right that they may have been the receptacle of any “extra souls” John had on hand.
This also could play a part in how many people died the day of the nukes vs. how few were actually brought back in the Resurrection. John didn’t bring back all of them (not even most of them) and didn’t wake up all of those, but would he have been able to recompose bodies that had been utterly destroyed by nuclear bombs? Do his powers work on an atomic scale? Or maybe they do, and he could have, but it was too much of a power drain to do for millions or people, or maybe he tried to bring back the Melbourne train conductors and it went terribly wrong so he just quit after that.

Definitely. I mean I get it - they’re about to lose a feature they made a ton of adjustments to set up (oh tumblr live, you sure were… something that existed), so some changes are necessary.
As long as they keep at it and don’t leave these glitches and hiccups to linger, I can deal with it I guess. Also as long as the glitches are just visual and not literal (e.g. it just LOOKS like my queue is empty, not that it actually is), I’ll deal.
Hopefully it’ll look (and function?) better once we’re on the other side, and tumblr live is officially gone, lol.
