Birds chirped annoyingly at my open window. My phone buzzing on in. Souring my mood while I tried to go back to sleep. Way too warm to unwrap myself from my blankets to meet the cool, morning air of my room.
In attempt to shut out the screaming birds, and my damn phone. I pulled my pillow over my head. Dulling the tweets, and buzzes slightly, but it was better than nothing.
Dozing off when everything was quiet for a moment. I was on the edge of complete sleep again when I felt like I just fell off a cliff. A mixed sound between surprised, and disappointment coming out of my mouth.
“Hydra?” I questioned groggy. Looking up at the cooing Astartes, electric blue eyes staring down at me while he nuzzled the top of my head. Trying to wake me up.
I grumbled in response. Wiggling back down in my blankets, unwilling to wake up just yet. Feeling Hydra rumble, pulling me close.
Dozing off again in his embrace. I heard him coo at me again as his hands sneaked down at my exposed skin of my stomach.
With a yelp, I jumped up. Startled at such foul trickery. Moving completely away from the Alpha Legion with the cold hands. Nearly tumbling off my bed.
“That was foul, Mr.” I grumbled, glaring at the Alpha Legion without armor. His coos, and laughs shaking the bed.
Grabbing one of my pillows. I chucked it at him, hitting him in the chest with a light plop. Doing nothing as the little sh*t just leaned over, and picked me up again. Pulling me into a confiscating hug. Head nuzzling into my hair with small coos coming out him.
With a sigh, I forgave him. Wrapping my arms around his chest as much as I could. Unable to stay mad him for long.
He might have been a little “tricky” to deal with, but ultimately he was a cuddle bug. Always wanting some sort of physical affection. His most common one; holding one another. It scared me immobile the first time he did it.
I was sleeping at the time too, in the middle of the night. Felt the slow movement of hands wrapping around my body— Thought it was my dream at first until I jerked awake, coming face-to-face with a bald man with soft, blue eyes that shined in the dark.
I just laid there, staring at him like he was my sleep paralysis demon. Heart beating heavily in my chest. I could only really watch him as he chuffed at me, and wrap his hands around me more. Settling his head down on my chest. Being the little spoon.
Eventually, I did fall back asleep that night. Kinda just excepting my fate at that moment. Fully expecting not to be alive the next morning.
With another sigh, I pushed myself off Hydras chest, feeling how my joints gone sore. Only to get pulled back in, a whine coming from the Astartes.
“Oh, so I can’t have more sleep time, but you can have more cuddle time?” I questioned the clingy Alpha legion. A quiet rumble coming from him.
I mocked his rumble back at him, his head pulled back quickly from me. Grip loosening as I took that chance to escape his grasp, getting another whine from him.
“Oh shush! Let’s get us some breakfast, yeah?”
Crimson repainted the once cream walls. Some spots darker than the other. Stained by the amount. Still fresh as it slowly ran down the wall, joining with the pools of blood turning cold on the ground. Mixing DNA.
Big, and small body’s laying around with missing limbs. Some recognizable, others beyond medical recognition. Flames eating at their open flesh creating an horrid smell.
“PLEASE! PLEA—” The begging of a human stopped. The sound of bones ripping from flesh splattering against armor. The humans spine had been ripped from him his back with ease. His uncooperativeness leading him to his demise.
“Will you talk?” One of the marines asked the remaining human. Looking down at him as they nodded frantically. Green eyes blown wide with fear. “Then talk.”
“I-I can’t e-exactly g-give you the p-precise lo-location!” The young man stammered. Flinching away from another marine when the moved closer, adding quickly. “It’s-not-my-job!”
“Then what can you give?” Another marine asked. Armor shifting around the area.
“I- I can give y-you a-an area! A-an city!” The man fumbled . Eyes desperately searching all around him, in the dark area. Unable to see his potential threat.
“Clarify.” A deeper voice came out.
“R-Rodessava! The c-city! That’s all I kn-know! I s-swear!” The man blurted out. Paranoia catching up to him as the shadows moved. “I heard it with-within the office a l-long time ago! P-Please! Believe m-me!”
“…Leave.” The deep voice suddenly demanded.
“R-really?” The man hesitantly asked, getting no sound in return . “Oh thank god!”
The man rose to his feet, ready to dash right out this horrid place. Chanting gods name in his head as he went. A marine nodding to the other.
‘Thank you god, thank you god, thank y—’
Teeth dug into the man’s neck. Blood splattering against the marines face as the man below him gurgled. With a pull, a chunk of the mans throat left his neck. A clear snap of bone echoed as the body fell down to its knees. Plopping down to the ground with a thud.
An… unpredictable death.
The marine himself, finished off their piece of flesh. Licking his lips off before cleaning off his gauntlets like a cat cleaning itself. A satisfied rumble coming from him.
“Unfortunate.” One said, moving out with the rest of the group to their new location. Some staying behind to get rid of the evidence.
Their darling had quite a few loyal people to her. Unwilling to say anything for her name. Others, not as much. Something they can give their darling props for. Her tactics having them almost thrown there for a moment.
Oh, darling, please stop with this. I’m getting tired without you by my side. I just wish to provide for you! Let me show you my power! My dominance!
I’ll even show you my strength with duels! Challenges if I have to!

White Rot Fungus
Tumblr media
Stages of Infection:
Stage 1 (Days 1-7): Fatigue, low-grade fever, muscle aches, altered sense of taste and smell.
Stage 2 (Days 8-14): Fever worsens, cognitive impairment becomes apparent (confusion, memory loss), auditory and visual hallucinations begin. Strange white mold-like spots appear on skin.
Stage 3 (Days 15-21): Immune system crashes, leading to susceptibility to other illnesses. Auditory and visual hallucinations become more vivid and disturbing. White mold spreads over the body. Paranoia and manic episodes occur.
Stage 4 (Days 22-28): Complete psychosis sets in, with violent outbursts. Seizures, paralysis, and uncontrollable vomiting of white liquid. Skin takes on a pale, mold-like texture. Black sores appear on skin.
Stage 5 (Day 28-35): Coma-like state. Mold completely covers body. Blood oozes from eyes, ears, mouth. Still alive but completely unresponsive.
Stage 6 (Death): Vital organs shut down one by one. Cause of death unclear - combination of system failures. Entire body becomes covered in white mold upon death.
Tumblr media
It is suspected to be highly contagious, though transmission methods are unknown. No effective treatment exists. Quarantine is recommended but ultimately futile. This disease brings about a painful, psychologically tormenting death over the course of a month.

Striggore
Tumblr media
“Summoning of the Striggore” © Wicked Foundations Games and Accessories, by Christophe Young.
[Commissioned by Soluman Blevins. From the 3pp book Tales of Terror: Dark Menagerie. As I mentioned in the previous entry for the scopitera, I hate the misogynistic tropes that are incorporated into the Striggore. The look is cool, but that giant gaping maw is explicitly a vagina in the original, leading to a pocket dimension called the Unwomb, and she has various menstrual blood-based attacks. My goal here, therefore, was to capture some of the mechanics of the original while simultaneously making Striggore less intensely sexist. I also, rarely for me, delved into the mythic rules for this in order to keep the original CR but at least explore and expand on why people might actually worship the Tiller of Flesh.]
Striggore CR 18 LE Aberration This ghastly giant is humanoid, but appears to have been torn open. From its ribs to its hips is a bleeding gash, from which arms probe and caress and jagged bones protrude like fangs. Its actual arms and legs are long and thin, its head and shoulders are a tangled mass of branches and moss forming a crown of horns, and an incongruously calm mask serves it as a face.
The Striggore, the Tiller of Flesh, was originally an attempt by the Eldest to create a new variety of Tane, but the creature proved impossible to control and was imprisoned in the First World. She was released by a coven of powerful hags, who were not powerful enough and were rapidly devoured by the Striggore. The Striggore’s mind burned with desire for expansion and conquest, and she set herself up as a living goddess, a figure of fertility who would intercede directly in the lives of her followers. Those who worship the Striggore are rewarded with ample crop growth and protection from other monstrous creatures, but must sacrifice humanoids to her on a regular basis in order to maintain these blessings. Natural cycles of growth, birth and death become warped in her presence. Some creatures are born fiendish, whereas others are simply deformed, and monstrous plants spontaneously grow from normal seeds in forests where the Tiller of Flesh walks.
The Striggore’s goal in combat is to consume, adding the life force of her enemies to her own. Her very presence is awe-inspiring, and those that succumb to her frightful presence are struck mute, either in respect or horror. She uses her stunning glare to cause prey to drop their weapons and lose actions, then grabs them and shoves them into the gaping orifice that splits her from chest to pelvis. This mouth leads not to a normal digestive system, but to the Craw, a pocket dimension from which most victims never escape. Some undead remnants of the Tiller of Flesh’s prey may survive in the Craw, adding a new element of danger to those swallowed.
The Tiller of Flesh never speaks, in fact cannot speak, but understands all languages and can communicate telepathically. The scopitera, mutant parasitoid butterflies, are her spies, and she can see through their eyes from afar. The Striggore’s realm is currently an enormous conifer forest, with communities of worshipers scattered within it and at its boundaries. Her goal is to spread her cult, and ultimately to achieve true divinity. One tactic she is considering is reproduction; there is only one of the Striggore for now, but she is attempting to find a ritual that will allow her to spawn more of herself.
The Striggore stands twenty feet tall. She is immortal until slain, and some of her cults have persisted for centuries.

Planar Acclimation (Ex) The Striggore never gains the extraplanar subtype, no matter what plane she is on. Quiescent (Su) The Striggore is supernaturally stealthy. She does not make any noise unless she chooses to, and can make Stealth checks to hide from blindsense or blindsight. She can still be detected normally with lifesense or thoughtsense. This grants her a +20 racial bonus to Stealth checks. Silencing Presence (Ex) A creature that fails its save against the Striggore’s frightful presence cannot speak for as long as the fear effect lasts. Shudderspy (Su) By concentrating, the Striggore can see through the eyes of any scopitera within 1 mile. While doing so, she uses the scopitera’s sensory abilities, but can make Perception checks with her own modifiers. The Striggore is treated as being blind when concentrating in this manner, unless she can see herself through that scopitera’s eyes. Stunning Glare (Su) As a swift action, the Striggore can cast her glance at a creature within 30 feet. If that creature fails a DC 26 Will save, it is stunned for 1 round. This is treated as a gaze attack for the purposes of avoiding the effect. The save DC is Charisma based. Swallow Whole (Su) Creatures swallowed by the Striggore are transported to the Craw, a demiplane in the form of a fleshy hollow cube 40 feet across. Creatures in the Craw are not considered grappled or pinned, but take 10d6 points of negative energy damage each round (Fort DC 28 negates). The save DC is Constitution based. If a creature dies from negative energy damage in the Craw, the Striggore heals 10d6 points of damage. A creature can cut its way out of the Striggore’s Craw by attacking its walls; they have an AC of 23, 30 hit points, and the same damage reduction, immunities and spell resistance as the Striggore. A creature that deals 30 points of damage to the Craw is ejected in an adjacent space to the Striggore, but the Striggore is unharmed.

Oh, y’all, I was hoping to get Part 2 of Pink Scarf out today, but instead I’m all up in my feels and wrote a stupidly long post about EP to mark this 45th year of his passing…I’m sharing it here because it seems the best place to do so.
Tumblr media
45 years ago today, the world lost an icon. Elvis Presley’s early death, at just 42, shocked millions. Elvis was more than just an entertainer; he is a facet of American culture and history, changing the landscape of both and paving the way for many artists after him.
Tumblr media
I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to reconnect with and rekindle my love for Elvis this summer. For a lot of reasons, this season of my life has been very challenging and uncertain, and in June, I was at the height of emotions related to all of it. It feels serendipitous that it was also the moment I discovered there was an Elvis movie coming out, and thus began my deep dive into the trove of information related to him and the movie. This has been a welcome distraction and fuel for my other passions of music and writing. It may seem silly to some, but I find him endlessly fascinating—a one of a kind charismatic, talented, beautiful, tragic, and tremendously flawed human.
Tumblr media
My dad loved Elvis, and I will forever cherish being able to share that love with him and my mom. I have so many fun memories of watching his concerts with them and listening to Elvis CDs blasting at full volume in the middle of the night when my dad would go on an Elvis kick. That kind of joy and fun is contagious! It bonds you.
Tumblr media
This week is one of strong emotions. I find it strangely fitting that Dad died almost 35 years to the day after Elvis and exactly 54 years after EP’s mother, Gladys. Honestly, I hope they are all out there somewhere in the ether having a good time together! Regardless, while I feel deep sadness this week, there is also the celebration and homage of lives that made a profound impact on others (albeit on a different scale!).
Tumblr media
I know that EP struggled a lot in those last years with his purpose, thinking that no one would remember him or wondering if he’d done anything of any value in his life. To me (and millions of fans with more fervor than mine), I ultimately think that Elvis brings people together through music and his beautiful and tragic life story. He makes us feel. That was, and continues to be, his superpower, and why, 45 years after his death, his otherworldly magnetism is still drawing in new generations of fans.
Tumblr media
I will always be tremendously frustrated with the sensationalist way his death was treated and how it affected his legacy. Finally, after 45 years, some light has been shed on the subject—Elvis did not die of a drug overdose or even simply from complications from prescription drug use. He was very, very ill, and his heart gave out. It is likely that he would’ve died early with or without the drugs.
Tumblr media
I highly recommend reading Elvis: Destined to Die Young by Sally Hoedel. According to her extensive research, Elvis had several conditions (many of which he suffered from since childhood/were genetic) that detrimentally affected nine out of his 11 body systems, including (but not limited to):
- severe glaucoma & iritis,
- Chronic insomnia,
- Hirschsprung’s disease (bowel paralysis due to missing nerve cells in the colon that would’ve caused excruciating pain) resulting in megacolon,
- an immune system disorder called hypogammaglobulinemia (an under active immune system) resulting in frequent infections and left untreated, can lead to heart, lung, and digestive damage, Crohn’s, and cancer. (We know that Elvis suffered chronic infections throughout his life, especially tonsillitis, ear infections, sore throats, fevers, intestinal infections, and flus)
- Presence of the genetic disorder Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (a condition affecting the liver, lungs, and heart which is now believed to be what killed his mother at such an early age)
- Congenital heart disease & hypertension
- Cushing’s disease
- adrenal insufficiency
- Anemia
- Rheumatoid arthritis and Reactive arthritis
- Enlarged spleen
- Enlarged liver/non alcoholic hepatitis
- Diabetes
- COPD (Based on the combination of many of these, Elvis may very well have suffered from Common Variable Immunodeficiency Disease or CVID.)
- And finally, his prescription drug addiction. Having so many conditions had him relying on, and eventually abusing, many prescription drugs just to function, especially as his touring and performing schedule demands increased.
I am amazed that Elvis could even function at all with even a fraction of these conditions, much less perform physically demanding shows twice a day and tour.
Tumblr media
I truly hope Elvis is at peace and that he knows what a tremendous impact he’s made and continues to make on the world. I hope he can see what a wonderful job Austin and Baz did portraying him. I’m so happy that new generations are discovering him and his legacy. I hope we can continue it in for generations to come!
In memory of Elvis Aaron Presley

Ok so tragic HC but
You know how it’s canon that Lupin has basically convinced Jigen that if he ever went “bad” that Jigen had permission to shoot him, like that one thing in think in Red Jacket, where he asks Jigen to kill him to save the lives of any potential victims when he believes he’s becoming a compulsive killer because that’s not who he is?
. . .do you think Jigen keeps that in mind for other situations.
Like outside of Lupin asking him to do that in case he ever goes “mad”, Jigen knows how important thieving is to Lupin and that if Lupin can’t do it, Lupin wouldn’t feel like himself and would be absolutely miserable and Jigen can’t stand to see his best friend miserable.
And as a result, and as much as he hates it, if his best friend in the whole world asked Jigen to kill him if it came down to the situation that it was either Jigen kill him or he spends the rest of his life unable to do the one thing that basically makes his life worth living, that Jigen would actually do it.
what I’m basically getting at is Jigen would probably put Lupin down like a racehorse with a broken leg if Lupin ever broke/injured something that basically ended his carrier in a snap instance. He’d rather his friend die with dignity then live a life he’s not meant to live, he knows that Lupin would be miserable distraught and everything in between if he managed to hurt himself to the point that thieving/ LIVING would be nothing to him but a distant memory
Like Lupin gets hurt often, and Jigen knows that some wounds can be more severe then others, but wounds that definitely worry him the most are wounds that target Lupin’s hips, back/spine and legs because of what they can entail.
Legs worry him less. They can heal but depending on the trauma, you can loose a leg, but prosthetic’s are a thing and Jigen know’s lord knows Lupin is smart enough to tinker with em to make them comfortable enough to act like he never lost a leg
Same with the hips, hip wounds *suck* they take a long time to heal from, and not only that a hip fracture is a serious injury, with complications that can be life-threatening. Not to mention a hip fracture can greatly reduce independence and sometimes even shorten life. About half the people who have a hip fracture aren't able to regain the ability to live independently, so what does that mean for a thief.
But then there’s the ultimate fear factor for Jigen, an injury to Lupin’s back. . .specifically his spine.
Spines are important, they keep you moving, keep you living. Minor fractures of the spine of course can be healed with rest and medication, however, more severe fractures might require surgery to realign the bones. If left untreated or if the injury is severe enough, spinal fractures can lead to permanent spinal cord injury, nerve damage and paralysis and sometimes even death.
But would Jigen ever take that chance?
Would he ever hope that his partners wounds would be minor and that all it would take is a little R&R to recuperate.
or would he always find himself ready at the trigger to spare his friend the pain and heartache and devastation
tw // suicide ? i think? im unsure what to tag this as KJHJGHF
i have a feeling if it ever came down to it, jigen probably wouldnt be able to pull the trigger but thats just my hc for him
he gets these sorts of intrusive thoughts often, and it usually leads to some sort of panic attack (that he of course treats with alcohol)
lupin finds him during one of these attacks and tries to figure out whats wrong, jigen of course brushes it off and says hes not drinking for any reason in particular but lupin knows otherwise
eventually after alot of prodding, he breaks down and tries to explain whats on his mind, but keeps getting choked up. jigen hates crying, especially in front of people, and he can usually keep that under control, but for some reason he just cant seem to stop it this time
lupin sits there though and listens, reassuring him and trying to talk it through with him whenever he falls silent

Best and Worst Flowers to Plant for a Pet-Friendly Garden
Tumblr media
Every pet owner knows their dog or cat will chew on anything it can sink its teeth into, whether that's a toy, shoe, or ball of yarn. And at some point, your furry friend will inevitably gravitate towards plants and flowers for a bite or two. As beautiful as these colorful blooms are, from household plants to flowers grown in the garden, some can be particularly dangerous to our tail-wagging companions.
Of course, fragrant varieties are especially tempting (and, yes, even deadly), but did you know that your pet simply drinking water from a vase containing poisonous cut flowers can result in vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, lethargy, and lack of appetite? As you will see on this list, sometimes the potency is wrapped in the leaves, whereas in other cases, it could be in the seeds or bulbs.
You can always take extra precautions by placing your indoor containers in inaccessible areas of your home. But, the best (and most obvious) form of recourse is to avoid buying and planting toxic plants altogether, especially if your dog or cat is known for roaming around outside and nibbling on anything out of sheer curiosity. And if you can't possibly part way with your precious wisteria and tulips this season, growing your flowers on fences is another viable alternative.
Although you can't do anything about the neighbors' gardens, you can protect your pup by starting in your own backyard. According to the ASPCA, these are the safest plants to thrill, fill, and spill, as well as the ones to avoid.
Tumblr media
Perennials That Are Toxic to Pets
Aloe Vera - For humans, aloe vera works wonders for the skin and for burns. For dogs and cats, not so much. Symptoms from eating include vomiting, diarrhea, and tremors.
Chrysanthemum - Consuming any part of this autumn bloom can cause gastrointestinal issues and loss of coordination for your four-legged friend.
Carnation - They're not as harmful as other perennials but can cause mild gastrointestinal problems for your beloved pet.
Dahlia - Eating this delicate petal may lead to mild gastrointestinal suffering and dermatitis.
Daisy - Even though most consider this flower as the bedrock of the garden, several species carry dangerous toxins. Gerbera daisies and the blue-eyed African daisy are pet-safe options.
Iris - Irises come in many different colors, but that rainbow of hues could come at a price for your pet. Symptoms include mild to moderate vomiting, drooling, lethargy, and diarrhea. Rhizomes are the most toxic part of the plant.
Lily of the Valley - We adore this shady flower, but it can produce serious symptoms in pets and people, including vomiting, heart arrhythmias, seizures, coma, and, ultimately, death.
Monkshood - This one is a dead giveaway, considering its more common moniker "wolfsbane." All parts of the plant are toxic, especially the roots and seeds. Eating it can cause weakness, heart arrhythmias, paralysis, tremors, and seizures.
Peony - The garden and bouquet filler is a favorite among Southerners, but it poses a health hazard to our pets, including vomiting and diarrhea.
Other toxic perennials you should be aware of are Forget-Me-Nots, Peace Lilies, Coleus, Lavender, and Lenten Rose.
Annuals That Are Toxic to Pets
Begonia - The most toxic part of these plants is the tubers, which can cause irritation of the mouth and vomiting.
Geranium - Commonly grown in outdoor gardens, containers, and hanging baskets, Pelargonium species are toxic for pets, causing skin rashes, vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite.
Poinsettia - This traditional holiday plant can cause irritation of the mouth and stomach for kittens and puppies.
Shrubs and Trees That Are Toxic to Pets
Azaleas and Rhododendrons - These bright and popular garden shrubs are not only dangerous for cats and dogs, but for horses, goats, and sheep, too. If leaves are ingested by these animals, it can cause digestive problems, excessive drooling, weakness, and loss of appetite.
Boxwood - Evergreen and ever-dangerous when a significant amount of its leaves are ingested by your pet. It mostly causes dehydration, due to severe vomiting and diarrhea.
Gardenia - Unfortunately, the white and fragrant blooms of this shrub can take a toll on your pet's health, causing mild gastrointestinal distress and rashes.
Hydrangea - Summer and fall gift us with hydrangea's large clusters of flowers, but eating this plant can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Lantana - If you've recently planted this small, tropical shrub, look for signs of diarrhea, weakness, or labored breathing in your pet.
Oak trees - The acorns are harmful to dogs, potentially causing gastrointestinal discomfort, a choking hazard, or even kidney failure or death.
Oleander - This popular blooming shrub is highly toxic, potentially leading to drooling, gastrointestinal symptoms, arrhythmia, and even death.
Rose of Sharon - Most hibiscus species are non-toxic, but dogs that eat Rose of Sharon (H. syriacus) flowers can have a lack of appetite and vomiting. Both stems and flowers are toxic to cats.
Yew - This slow-growing, drought-resistant shrub is attractive in the garden, but it's dangerous for pets and livestock and is known to cause sudden death from acute cardiac failure in dogs.
Bulbs That Are Toxic to Pets
Amaryllis - We love these beautiful bulbs, but they're extremely toxic. If consumed, it can cause abdominal pain, tremors, diarrhea, and hypersalivation for both cats and dogs.
Caladium - Their big flamboyant leaves contain dangerous crystals that can penetrate your pet's skin and mouth, causing severe irritation and difficulty breathing and walking.
Crocus - This chalice-shaped bulb is usually the first sign that spring has arrived, but ingestion of the spring crocus can lead to gastrointestinal upset for your pup.
Daffodil and Jonquil - It's a good thing that daffodils are too pretty to eat because if your pets munch on the bulbs, these plants can cause cardiac issues, convulsions, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Gladiola - Here, it's the corms that lead to excessive drooling, lethargy, and vomiting.
Hyacinth - You may be drawn to its sweet scent, but keep your dogs, cats, and cattle away from this bulb, because it can damage the mouth and esophagus and cause violent tremors.
Lily - To put it simply, lilies are definitely not the cat's meow. The verdant and fragrant bulb can cause kidney failure in cats, but doesn't appear to affect dogs.
Tulip - Eating the cup-shaped flower may lead to convulsions, cardiac problems, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
Vines That Are Toxic to Pets
While these climbing growers are useful for sprucing up your landscaping and vertical space, they can also be toxic to dogs and cats, particularly since wisteria contains poisonous seeds and pods.
Clematis
English and Boston Ivy
Morning Glory
Wisteria
Vegetables and Herbs That Are Toxic to Pets
Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Peppers - The stems and leaves of these plants contain solanine, which can cause severe gastrointestinal distress, weakness, and a slow heart rate. However, the fruits are edible if eaten when fully ripe, or, in the case of potatoes, after cooking. Stick to bell peppers, as spicy peppers can be harmful to pets.
Onions, garlic, and chives - When eaten in large quantities, all plants in the Allium genus can cause anemia in pets.
Mint and Oregano - Eating these herbs can result in gastrointestinal issues for pets.
Pet-Safe Plants for Your Garden
These plants are generally considered safe to plant around Felix and Fido. Keep in mind this list is not exhaustive and only includes some of the most common flowers typically grown in the South. If you are uncertain or suspect your pet has ingested harmful plants, contact your veterinarian.

˗ˏˋ ★ # VAMPIRISM 002. physiology
the following discusses the strength, weaknesses, feeding habits and methods of destruction of the modern turned vampire. it should be noted that despite having supernatural abilities, vampirism is ultimately a curse. for most, even experienced vampires, the cons far outweigh the pros for this life.
Tumblr media
STRENGTHS
SUPERNATURAL CONDITION: possesses physical and mental abilities that are unnaturally superior over others in their universe, making them immensely stronger, faster and durable. the average vampire is recorded to lift between 1,000 - 4,000lbs (approx. 450 - 1800kg), travel up to speeds to break the sound barrier and have a reaction time of 0 - 30 milliseconds (compared to humans, that have about 200 - 300 milliseconds)
SEMI - IMMORTALITY: at the moment of their turning, a vampire will stop aging. provided they aren't destroyed by any of their weaknesses, they will live forever. because of this, vampires perceive time differently than humans, especially the older they get.
REGENERATIVE HEALING: can rapidly regenerate lost or damaged tissues in order to heal from any ailments, which leads to them not aging. the timeframe of their healing varies significantly depending on the severity of the injury, however, most will have disappeared completely within 24 - 72hrs.
PERSUASION: can compel people by speaking, and the victims are almost always incapable of disobeying. this is most effective with humans but other vampires and supernatural beings feel its effect. there are extreme methods that can be used to combat this and break the compulsion spell, including intense physical pain/conditioning and temporary death.
MIND LINK: vampires share a mild level of telepathy to their sires, which links them to each other emotionally.
VENOM: vampires secrete venom that is transferred through their bite and acts as a necrotoxins. if the victim is left without getting rid of the venom, side affects will occur including: fever, confusion, hallucinations, disrupted sleep, hyperactivity, headache, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, paralysis, coma, and ultimately necrosis and death. whether or not venom is used during feeding can be controlled by the vampire themselves and not every bite will result in the exposure of the venom.
HEALING BLOOD: the properties of vampire blood has healing factors that makes it a cure - all to even the most fatal injuries. however, vampire blood does not work on diseases and illnesses and consuming too much becomes extremely addictive which can drive a human to insanity.
SUPERNATURAL BEAUTY (to an extent): a turned vampire will look the way they do when they died but when they feed on blood and are at their peak condition, they will appear “more alive” in order to draw prey in. this usually is in appearance; a vampire will have more color to them and move or speak in a way that is pleasing to whoever they’re interacting with. they also have a naturally sweet smell to them. the only case in which a vampire looks “unattractive” is when they have gone without feeding for an extended amount of time, in which they become sickly and lifeless.
GIFTS: varies from vampire to vampire but with age comes special abilities they can cultivate over time. this can range from telekanesis to levitation to umbrakinesis. some vampires may be capable of using more than one ability while others may never learn any at all.
WEAKNESSES
SUNLIGHT: like the stories, vampires do burn in the sun, especially newborns. tolerance can be built up over time and special "sunscreen" like medications have been developed to combat this weakness, though even then it only works for a few hours at best. even indirect sun exposure may cause heat exhaustion - like symptoms such as nausea, fatigue and vertigo and all injuries involving sunlight will leave permanent scarring. direct prolonged exposure to the sun will always be severely damaging or fatal to a vampire.
INVITATIONS: vampires are unable to enter a humans private property without an invitation. but once it is given, it can never be taken away unless the ownership of the property is given to another or becomes nullified through the death of the owner.
FIRE: vampires are highly flammable and can easily burn completely to ash
HOLY OBJECTS: though they cannot be killed by these, vampires can be weakened or driven off by things such as holy water or crucifixes and have a difficult time being on sacred ground like churches and cathedrals. the holy object must hold significance to someone nearby, however, so a cross worn for fashion will have no effect on a vampire.
IRON: associated with the natural world, it's been used as protection against evil. in the old days, iron nails was used to hold corpses down and prevent them from becoming the undead. while it will not kill a vampire, wounds from iron weapons take longer to heal and slow them down.
WOODEN STAKE: similar to iron, a wooden weapon can inflict damage that that longer to heal or can even completely immobilize a vampire.
VAMPIRE BLOOD: because vampires are undead, consuming the blood of their own kind is poisonous and will result in them becoming feral and animalistic, but they will not die. a pureblood vampire is able to consume the blood of other vampires, but the same ability is not applied vice versa.
METHODS OF DESTRUCTION
DIRECT SUNLIGHT: once again, exposure to the sun is a sure way to kill almost any vampire (the only exceptions are dhampirs and psychic vampires due to these classifications still being mostly human).
ASPEN STAKE: if a wooden stake is 100% made from aspen and driven directly through the heart, it will kill a vampire.
DECAPITATION: removing the head completely from the body will incapacitate a vampire, however, both pieces need to be burned to ash in order to keep the vampire from coming back to life. if not properly disposed of, a decapitated vampire will become reanimated but in a feral, animalistic way solely driven by bloodthirst. decapitation will permanently kill a dhampir even without burning the pieces.
HEART EXTRACTION: removing the heart from the body will temporarily incapacitate a vampire, but just like decapitation, both parts need to be properly disposed of. a vampire that is missing its heart will specifically feast on the hearts of their victim as way to compensate for the lack of their own. heart extraction will permanently kill a dhampir even without burning the pieces.
FEEDING HABITS
when they were first created, vampires would consume human flesh, especially the heart. over time, they evolved to survive only on blood instead, but to compensate for this, vampires require feeding several times a day in order to maintain peak physiology just like a regular human. if a vampire "overeats", blood will start seeping out of their body, most notably from their eyes, ears, nose and even through the pores of their skin like sweat. similar to a human’s feeding, a vampire can go at least a week without feeding at all, though the exact length of time varies depending on may different factors. vampires cannot truly die from starvation, but eventually will become incapacitated and go into a immobile, sleep-like state. when they are starving, vampires show their “true face”. this form is referring to the actual face of a vampire, which is close in appearance to the original vampires. a vampire’s true face is usually devoid of any color or life, turning an ashen shade with extremely bloodshot eyes, abnormally enlarged pupils and sharp, protruding teeth and nails. during this time, the senses will become even more acute due to being driven solely by the instinct of hunger, but it will also make them highly sensitive to sunlight and sounds. and because they are in a weaken state, they will not be able to move as quickly or at their full strength.
virtually all blood is appealing to vampires, but on different levels. human blood (with varying preferences from vampire to vampire) would be the most appetizing and satisfying. the blood of a turned dhampir is considered a rare delicacy; as they are still considered living, this counteracts the poison - like effect the blood of their own kind has. it is human enough to satisfy a vampire while allowing them to experience the high that comes from its healing properties. and for every other supernatural creature or animals, the appeal varies but they would do just fine. the only blood that is unfit for consumption to vampires would be the “blood” of anything celestial (demon, angels, gods and/or their children) or blood of other vampires.

Afoxolaner: The Tick and Flea Terminator Unveiled
For pet owners waging war against pesky parasites, Afoxolaner API emerges as a formidable ally. This active ingredient, found in popular medications like NexGard® and Bravecto®, offers a potent weapon against both fleas and ticks, safeguarding our furry companions from these bothersome and potentially harmful pests. But what exactly is Afoxolaner, and how does it work its magic? Let's delve into the science behind this innovative parasite slayer.
From Molecules to Mite Mayhem:
Chemically speaking, Afoxolaner belongs to the isoxazoline class of compounds. These unique molecules target a specific part of the parasite's nervous system, the GABA-gated chloride channels. These channels act like tiny gateways, regulating the flow of ions that control nerve impulses. Afoxolaner disrupts these channels, essentially overloading the nervous system and leading to rapid paralysis and death of the parasite.
Mechanism of a Mite Massacre:
Imagine a flea or tick feasting on your unsuspecting pet. As it ingests Afoxolaner, the molecule enters its bloodstream and reaches its nervous system. The binding of Afoxolaner to the GABA channels throws the entire system into disarray, resulting in uncontrolled nerve impulses and ultimately, paralysis. This quick-acting process effectively eliminates the parasite within hours, providing long-lasting protection for your pet.

Bacillus thuringiensis Nature's Insecticide Unleashed
Introduction to Bacillus thuringiensis
Unveiling Bacillus thuringiensis
Biological pest control has a major revolutionary factor, and it is Bacillus thuringiensis which occurs naturally in the soil. Its revelation and use in agricultural sectors have led to a major breakthrough from chemical pesticides to eco-friendly ones. The story of the transformation from a simple soil inhabitant to an effective bio-insecticide is proof that nature and man can create magic through innovation.
Biological Pest Control Phenomenon.
The emergence of a biocontrol agent reflects the increasing emphasis on eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices. The fact that it only kills specific pests but not harms human, animal and non target species makes it a favorite for many farmers worldwide. This transition is not only related to environmental issues but also satisfies the growing interest in organic and ecologically aware farming methods.
Bacillus Thuringiensis: The Organic Pesticide by Novobac
A description and advantages of Novobac’s bt products.
Learn about sustainable agriculture with Novobac's micro-based solutions like B. thuringiensis is a reflection of its vision statement towards promoting sustainable agriculture practice. This bio fungicide makes use of the inherent features of Bacillus thuringiensis and provides an eco-friendly option that is also highly effective. It is a testament to Novobac’s pursuit of creative, ecological methods in farming.
Application in Indoor and Outdoor Plant Defense. Bacillus thuringiensis due to its versatility can be used in different settings. Efficacy is the same regardless of whether you are protecting an indoor plant or a bunch of crops in fields. The mechanism of action is based upon toxins that act against certain insect species indirectly affecting their digestive tract and ultimately leading to death. This focused treatment makes it impossible to harm useful insects, thus preserving the ecological balance.
Mode of Action for Bacillus thuringiensis. The Mode of Action for Bacillus thuringiensis Against Pests.
Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) generates crystal proteins, or toxins, that target specific insect groups such as Orthoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hymenoptera, primarily focusing on Lepidoptera. BTK and BTA, two strains of Bt, produce the main toxins: exotoxin and endotoxin, also known as parasporal crystals, with the latter being the primary toxic agent. Unlike chemical insecticides, the most effective indoor plant insecticide from Bt is highly specific, affecting only certain insect categories. When consumed, Bt proteins disrupt the insect's digestive system, leading to their death. Insects with simpler digestive systems can experience rapid disintegration of their gut walls. This results in immediate cessation of feeding and paralysis within minutes, allowing Bt's vegetative cells to invade and breach the gut wall. The insects eventually die from starvation and infection in their circulatory fluid, or hemolymph. BT powder's effects are not immediate and may start to show up to 2 days post-ingestion. Hence, it's recommended to apply BT powder a few days before using traditional chemical pesticides. The effectiveness is more pronounced during the early developmental stages of the moth.
Practical Applications in Agriculture
Guideline and Benefits for Farming Using Bacillus thuringiensis. Bacillus thuringiensis has many practical applications in agriculture. This biocontrol agent has demonstrated highly encouraging results in improving plant health and yield right from small-scale gardens to large agricultural fields. Another week of being #2 on the list. It's good, it's really good, except it means there still aren't openings, or else I'd finally be hired as an apprentice instead of still waiting, even at #2.
My dad is still as transphobic as ever. Got all cozy with me like he just wanted us to spend some quality father-son time, just to drop a Jimmy Dore video on me wherein Dore & co. dumped on the feds for... *squinting* removing a trans boy from intolerant parents and actually giving him trans-affirming care. Of course, Dore, and the articles he cited, made sure to deadname and misgender the boy, and my father agrees with him, because he's a fucking third-positionist.
Not a quote, despite the use of the marks, but an essential summary of my dad's and Dore' s position, based on all the shit I've heard and had to pretend I agree with because disagreement just gets me punished and doesn't lead to him reconsidering his position at all: "The left has to dump minorities and marginalized people, and unite with the right, to get rid of the real fascists (even while "we" unite with Tucker fucking Carlson) and the capitalists, even though conservatives absolutely don't want to do that, and even though we recognize the political machine of a republic is inherently corrupt in such a way that change cannot be effected within the system. We can't be anarchists because, God forbid, that would mean conservatives wouldn't agree with us, and we might have to give a fuck about marginalized people, even though we recognize the evils of a republic. Also, because the US is wrong about everything, China and Russia are right about everything. Like liberals, we believe the world has righteous colonial empires and malevolent colonial empires, we just disagree as to which ones are, instead of recognizing the nuances and evils of all these empires."
My brother still struggles with the same issues he has for years, and a fundamental obstacle to his recovery is his fear of change, even self-directed change, which goes hand-in-hand with his fear of responsibility as such. I feel for him, but I'm also being held back by his state of mind, or at least by a frustration of concentration due to it, along with an intense and deep fear for his well-being...
I don't know if my younger sibling is still at the stabilization facility. I don't know how long our protection order lasts, which includes a ban on contacting us. I don't know if they'll be okay.
My dad, brother, and I still haven't seen the funeral of our aunt/grand-aunt. At least, we haven't seen the 20 minutes that our cousin translated for us from German (Swiss German, I think?) to English. I lament that I've never set foot on another continent, let alone visited her and her family in Switzerland, nor do I speak any dialect of German. I only know a few smatterings and phrases. I have known a few Germans for years, at least intermittently, but one has been a long-abiding friend... But I still don't know her language. Granted, my domestic situation isn't conducive to learning anything. It's more immediately important I learn Spanish, though, given where I live, but while I'm *more* fluent in Spanish than German, I'm not fluent. Anyway, my grand-aunt was a very thoughtful person, very kind and intelligent, a great lover of the arts, and her death was unfortunate. However, she'd experienced severe paralysis, and even loss of consciousness at times, the ultimate results of a terrible stroke. Life wasn't doing her any favors anymore; I'm glad she's no longer suffering. I wish I could get to know my grand-uncle, too, but he only knows, I think, French and German; probably some Italian, too. In any case, I don't speak those languages, so no dice. She had to translate for him the one time they visited years ago. I don't think I can become fluent and have sufficient correspondence to get to know him before his time comes, and it's not like some app-translated letters would really convey any heartfelt feelings... plus, he probably wouldn't want to correspond, anyway. Lonely as he surely feels, it's obvious that such correspondence would be futile.
I learned something about one of my ancestors who decided to come colonize here because of his conversion to Mormonism. He had a wife in Britain. Kids, too, I think. She didn't want to come along. I don't know if she kept the kids, I'll have to talk with my dad about that or check the family tree. He was so convinced that that racist, colonialist cult was right, that he abandoned his family. I probably have some cousins across the pond who descend from him, or at least from his wife.
How many people who should be kin are separated by distance, by oceans, by violence, by national barriers, by linguistic barriers, cultural barriers, or by poverty, or by being subsumed into cults, or into reactionary political dogma and bigotry?
Yet, even as I talk about family, and longing for lost connections and kin in Europe, I know I'd just be another foreigner. I don't feel at home on Turtle Island - who can, when they realize what they benefit from, what their ancestors did to other people and this continent, itself? Yet I don't know Mother Europe. I'm not Tulalip, but I was born on traditional Tulalip territory, though taught virtually nothing about them. I'm not Yakama, Umatilla, or Nez Perce, but I was raised in their traditional territory, though taught virtually nothing about them. Colonialism sure is something, doing it's damnedest to segregate people and keep down the original peoples. I'm not Scottish, I'm not English, I'm not German - my ancestors were. I'm "white". The colonies, and later, the US, cobbled that up as an alliance against the many peoples here who were (and are) all fighting for their homes, and against African people, who were enslaved, and are still persecuted by the state. I'm "American", but I see the unjust facade of this country, and don't want to be American. So where does that leave me? Confused. Very confused, and more than a little distraught.
So much unrighteousness, so many burdens and betrayals, so little belonging. Where do I righteously belong? Who can I rightly keep in my life, and who can I rightly deny? I don't know.

WHO Approves Safer Polio Vaccine for Children
Tumblr media
WHO's Endorsement of nOPV2: A Leap in Child Health Safety
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently prequalified the novel type 2 oral polio vaccine (nOPV2), a significant advancement in the global fight against polio. The safer Polio Vaccine was developed by a team including scientists from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), this prequalification marks a crucial milestone in making the vaccine more accessible worldwide.
MHRA's Pivotal Role in Developing nOPV2
After three years of Emergency Use Listing (EUL) and the successful distribution of 950 million doses globally, WHO's analysis confirmed nOPV2's strong safety profile and effectiveness. Dr. Andrew Macadam, a Principal Scientist at the MHRA, emphasized the continuous global threat of polio and the need for widespread immunization. This prequalification, according to Dr. Macadam, signifies a major step in increasing access to this safer vaccine, especially in developing countries.   Eradicating Polio: A Global Health Priority Polio, an infectious disease caused by the poliovirus, primarily affects children under five and can lead to permanent paralysis or death. The original oral polio vaccines (OPVs) have been instrumental in reducing polio cases by over 99% since 1988. However, the risk of vaccine-derived outbreaks remains in under-immunized populations, making the development and distribution of nOPV2 vital.
nOPV2: A Safer Alternative in Polio Prevention
nOPV2 stands out for its reduced risk of causing vaccine-derived polio outbreaks. Unlike traditional OPVs, which can mutate and become harmful in low-immunization areas, nOPV2's genetic modifications significantly lower this risk. This makes it a safer and equally effective option for protecting against polio, especially in hard-to-reach regions.   Expanding Global Access to Polio Immunization The WHO's prequalification of nOPV2 not only endorses its safety and efficacy but also simplifies the process for member countries to obtain and use the vaccine. This eliminates the need for stringent readiness and monitoring requirements previously mandated under EUL, ensuring broader and long-term accessibility.
A New Era in Polio Eradication
The WHO's decision to prequalify nOPV2 clearly demonstrates the need for a safer Polio Vaccine and the concerted efforts of global health organizations and scientists in combating polio. Significantly, it represents a major stride in ensuring children worldwide have access to safer and more effective immunization against this debilitating disease. Furthermore, this development is a key milestone in the ongoing journey to completely eradicate polio, ultimately safeguarding future generations from its impact.   Sources: THX News & Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency. //BJORN ANDERSON. Björn Andrésen’s portrayal of Tadzio in «Death in Venice» and the image he gained as one of the most beautiful men in the world have held significant symbolic and cultural importance, directed by Luchino Visconti. Björn Andrésen’s androgynous beauty challenged conventional notions of masculinity and femininity. His delicate and ethereal appearance blurred gender boundaries, making him an iconic representation of androgyny. This challenged societal norms and played a role in expanding the understanding of beauty and gender identity. In «Death in Venice,» Andrésen’s character, Tadzio, symbolizes youth, innocence, and purity. His presence serves as a stark contrast to the aging and decadent Gustav von Aschenbach, played by Dirk Bogarde. Tadzio’s beauty and grace evoke a sense of fleeting and unattainable perfection. The film explores the theme of the pursuit of beauty and the sacrifices made in its name. Gustav’s infatuation with Tadzio represents an obsession with the ephemeral and the unreachable, which can be seen as a broader commentary on the human desire for beauty and transcendence. The film’s exploration of beauty, desire, and mortality has contributed to its enduring significance in film history. Andrésen’s image as Tadzio represents the duality of beauty—its allure and its transience. The character serves as a reminder that beauty, while captivating, is ultimately fleeting, and the pursuit of it can lead to obsession and downfall. Björn Andrésen’s portrayal of Tadzio in «Death in Venice» has become a timeless symbol of beauty, desire, and the complexities of human attraction. His androgynous and ethereal appearance challenged societal norms and continues to be celebrated and analyzed in the context of art, culture, and identity. Björn Andérson, but only Björn Andérson of «Death in Venice» is a potray, a face that embody much more than his delicate and sensitive look. A desire, which goes beyond the beauty and embrace the desire to discover, to know this figure. He attract and destroy. The obession that have Gutav von Achenbach for this young beauty is a kind of inner turmoil and the destructive nature of his obsession. He strat to detach himself of his own emotions and sensual experiences - loss of self-control. He also neglect his health and well-beign in a Venice under the cholera - he gets blind of the dangers arround him. His inability to compose or write is emblematic of the creative paralysis caused by his obsession. He abandons his work and artistic discipline, which were once central to his identity. Evryone is looking for this eternal beautiful face. The face of this person, that no-one knows but evryone wants to discover. Here, we do not speak really about love. It is something elese, the term desire fits better but the obession describe it in a more objectiv way. A face to discover, an unknown to be know ; something to decome, to be and to dissapear when the mask is taken of. Please look at these synthetic eyes, this marvoulous mouth, this hidden nose and the plentiness of this skin ; look at it longer, as a generic face of everyone, for everyone - this beauty is so full that it becomes empty of identity.
