I have not, this looks incredible though.

Willem Dafoe is in his apartment in New York, where he is watched over by two works of art. Behind him is an oil painting of his father, a prop created for a film, which required “dynastic portraits” of his relatives. “I liked my father fine, so, there he is.” We are talking on Zoom and he spins the camera round. “But look, even better! Here’s the counterpoint. Do you see that?” To the side of him is a large, lightbox photograph of his friend and occasional collaborator, the artist Marina Abramović, standing priest-like over a naked body adorned with organs. “Anyway, you get the idea,” he says.
Dafoe is less the kind of actor who wants to discuss his three-hour morning workout routine and more the type who will get stuck into the bigger stuff. We are here to talk about Poor Things, the stunning new Yorgos Lanthimos film, based on the novel by Alasdair Gray. Dafoe stars as a reclusive genius scientist named Godwin Baxter – God, for short – who creates life in the form of Emma Stone’s Bella. It is a gorgeous, thrilling adventure and it could be the film to earn Dafoe, who slaps on heavy prosthetics to play God, his fifth Oscar nomination. His first was for Platoon, in 1987, and he has been working solidly, voraciously even, since 1980, making more than 150 films in five decades, with every interesting director in the business, from David Lynch to Wes Anderson, from Werner Herzog to Paul Schrader and Martin Scorsese.

So I know you like Ulysses Dies At Dawn, and you were just talking about Norse Myth... have you listened to The Bifrost Incident yet???
I have not sadly 😭😭😭
It’s on my list, I promise, but my friend recommended a very specific order that I listen to all the Mechanism works, and so I’m still making my way through that list, and it’s near the end. The problem is with every new album I listen to, I keep coming back to Ulysses because it’s fricken amazing!
I will let y’all know when I get to the Bifrost though!

Absolutely in love with character deaths that are almost selfish in nature. Its kinda like, "I know this will kill me, i know this would kill me in horrifying and painful ways. But I am choosing this for myself, i am choosing to die on my own terms." Especially when said character has had little to no agency for a lot of their life, and this was like a final fuck you. Like a liberation in tragedy, a catharsis in sorrow. Your need to be free and your need to self destruct.

Nope, see what 99% of people get wrong is they either have their bear be a shapeshifter with a human form or a furry. Mine is a bear. Sure theres a human soul inside but he's also got bear instincts. He never talks and is never not a bear.

i am neck deep into a mechanisms obsession atm so here's which song and which album i think would be each choir member's favourite.
little to no explanation for most of these tbh bcs most of it is just vibes TM
ocean:
favourite album: once upon a time (in space) or tales to be told
just vibes tbh. i think she'd like that tales to be told songs were a lot of smaller stories tho
favourite song/standalone: riddle of the sphinx or pump shanty
i think she'd like oedipus' determination and dedication to curing the sphinx, and the work ethic in pump shanty (ignoring the fact that they r literally on the brink of death if they stop working lol)
also think she'd like frankenstien but i cant explain why just vibes
noel:
def likes the tragedy of the mechanisms. literally none of their albums have happy endings. even in the less sad endings everybody dies
favourite album: ulysseus dies at dawn.
no real explanation just vibes tbh. also really likes the narration between each song for every album but especially the first bit of narration of this one/ "the city"
favourite song/standalone: blood and whiskey or rose red
also just vibes and i think he'd like the style of rose red if that makes sense
bonus i think he'd really like swan song as well, and probably sirens and/or empty trail. i also have no reason for this other than vibes
mischa:
favourite album: high noon over camelot
he seems like the type to appreciate space cowboys
favourite song/standalone: one-eyed jacks, skin and bone or my name is no-one
also just vibes but i think he'd like the energy in my name is no-one and one-eyed jacks, and idk i just see him liking skin and bone.
honourable mention is cinders song bcs i think he'd like that one as well
ricky:
i think he'd be the one to get the choir into the mechanisms. a band of space pirates who tell stories sounds like the kind of thing he'd listen to imo
favourite album: the bifrost incident
picked this album mainly for the music style in this one. seems more his style imo
favourite song/standalone: prometheus
look me dead in the eyes and tell me he wouldn’t love this song. you can’t because then you’d be lying
but i also think he’d rlly like frankenstein. i have no evidence, just a feeling
penny/jane:
favourite album: once upon a time (in space)
not a clue why but i cant get her liking this album from my brain
favourite song/standalone: alice or the ignominious demise of dr pilchard
i think she'd like the alice in wonderland book and also just like the premise if that makes sense. no real explanation for the second one
constance:
favourite album: high noon over camelot
i literally have no idea why this fits in my brain but it does
favourite song/standalone: trial by song or elysian fields
alas, this is also just vibes. i do think she'd like the fact that ulysses did get their peaceful death in the end

Mornings of Ithilia (pt. 1?)
((Writing/Character exercise))
Strange, how one can be knocked out the first day and sleepless the second. The Lord of the Rosenfield Comet hadn’t even roused its radiance yet, but Irena was oddly energized at the early hour.
Her indigo wings fluttered occasionally from the dimmed, deep blue glow over her head. She could’ve asked for a sleeping tonic from Ulysseus or a spell from Anelle...
...Or, it seemed to be the better alternative to lie awake instead. The downside of living a literal planet away from your suppliers; shipping times are atrocious.
The books and photo albums on her shelves weren’t as enticing as they would be during the daytime. So, here Irena was, lounging near the stained glass window of her bedroom with a blanket draped over her stomach. She hoped to have a little peace (and by her Father’s mercy, some more sleep) until she’d have to chase after her Father(‘s subjects) all over again.
She wonders what fellow restless souls would be doing at this hour, or at least, in her place...

What was that bible passage about a guy all freaked out and stresses until god told him to eat and rest and then he felt a lot better?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was directly after the thing on the mountain where the prophets of baal couldn't compel a bit of fire from the dude, but Elijah managed it even after dumping a bunch of water on his.
Then after that the 500 prophets of baal are killed on Elijah's comand because that's just kinda how it went back then.
Rain came and ended the drought but jezebel was still grumpy because those were her prophets and it goes from there to the start of this chapter.
Elijah had a knack for ticking people off.
The good prophets be like that.

UDAD is honestly so good both discography wise (i cant even choose which one is my favorite they are all so good like how cant i not jam to lines like 'Four legs in the morning' and 'i wonder devil gets nightmare of all of its victims as well' and everything about Underworld Blues, Elysuim Fields and My Name Is No One) as well as story wise cause everything about it is just so compelling!!! Like?? The entire of The City and The Olympians being representation of horrors of late stage capitalism?? All the characters who werent Olympians (ie at the top) were so thoroughly screwed over by them and it didnt matter if they were trying to help the community, their family, their loved ones or themselves because literally everything was set up against them and they were powerless to fight back so they turned on each other because they are just so desparate to survive? Hades being antagonistic but not for Satan role but rather for being God of Wealth? The ending where Ulysseus really does die at dawn like you are not prepared how much they die at dawn??? Like oh my god, The Mechanisms really went off with this album udad is so good and underrated
so true anon. I'm not going to lie I just woke up so I am unable to formulate a good response to this but like yeah.
Yeah.

I watched Flora and Ulysseus and i think it was good :D
Nothing innovative or ingenious but it had a simple message and is overall a well intentioned movie.
I'm glad the titular girl was someone i can say i relate to.
She's just like me :D
Cynical, tomboyish, has a realistic view of the world but doesn't alienate herself from the supernatural, loves comics, animals, is 98% of the times super chill, 2% of the time a complete and utter disaster, her name is Flora too :D and when i was her age i was also blonde with curly hair (it's still curly but my hair naturally darkened)
