#we missed Ahmet
Episode 17 being entertaining, annoying, and infuriating.
Sparse comments
1) The Leo thing is moving at a snaaaaaail's pace.
I know this is gonna go on for long, so I'm just making peace with it.
2) What a fking random way to start Nigarbrahim. (Talking to the garden scene where she is randomly the one accompanying Hatice)
I know that Stockholm Syndrome is the name of the game in this show but damn this is honestly offensive.
3) Leo and Matrakçi should co-found a Get Over Her support group.
4) Mocenigo returns, this time convinced there's no way Süleyman will be able to turn the gift of a clock into not-so-veiled egomaniacal threat.
Of course, Süleyman relishes the challenge and does exactly that.
5) The janissaries being upset for Ibrahim's success is freaking hilarious given they are recruited the same way he was.
6) Gülsah and Gülnihal are honestly baffling in how much they're willing to be stepped over.
Even more for Gülsah given she even VOLUNTEERED to another murder attempt, as if Mahidevran did not literally throw her under the galley the first time.
7) Everyone is STILL ignoring the murderer still at large
8) WHAT THE F**K WAS THAT TIMESKIP WHAT YEAR IS IT WHO PUT MUSTAFA IN AN AGING CAPSULE-

Host family day! Today we departed from Casa Ave Maria and journeyed 20 minutes down the road to Los Morales, the training community for CEC members. I am in a host family with two kids and two dogs! They are so sweet and I got to play soccer and monopoly with the kids. Everyone is being so patient with the volunteers ~limited~ Spanish speaking. I'm really happy I'm in a house with kids because its just free practice for my spanish. The house next to me belongs to my host mothers brother and they are also hosting two Peace Corps volunteers so I've got Audrey and Ahmet just a stone's throw away. This weekend our task is to get to know them and the community to the best of our ability. I've been invited to a bingo fundraiser tomorrow for a member of the community that is sick. I thought my challenge this week was going to be falling asleep in the heat but honestly, I'm so mentally fried from translating everything that I don't think it will be an issue. The other half of the volunteers went to a different community and I'm missing them already.

Kardeşlerim Ep 95
Yasmin and Sarp were packing up Ahmet's stuff bc Seval suggested they donate them. Omer was there with them bc Sarp and Yasmin called him. Seval told him that he needs to ask for her permission to come to their house. Sarp and Yasmin told her that they called him. Omer left and Seval asked Sarp if he took any of his dad's expensive stuff and he said no. This woman is still after the money after all she did. I guess this is one more secret, can't wait for Sarp and Yasmin to find out that she killed their father.
Doruk asked his parents about their weird behavior on the day of the wedding and they said that they were celebrating with everyone else. Doruk didn't press them more since their explanation was logical.
At school, Berk asked Omer where Aybike was and she came from behind him and hugged him 🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aybike:”Did someone miss me?”
Tumblr media
Berk:”These hands, this scent, is it possible not to miss you? I’ve been looking forward to seeing you since 12 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds”
Tumblr media
I can't with Oglucan resting his head on Berk’s back 😂
Oglucan:”Let me tell you something, this kid has lost his mind”
Tumblr media
After class, Ayber and Asdor were sitting together outside at school and Berk was laying his head on Aybike’s lap ❤️ Berk was talking about how many times the mini bus rolled and he said he couldn’t count them. Asiye and Aybike told him to stop talking about the accident bc they were trying to forget about it.
Tumblr media
Berk:”Okay, I will stop talking about it but before I do that, I was wondering about something ”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”What is it? Tell us”
Tumblr media
Berk:”If I died unexpectedly in a car accident ”
Tumblr media
Aybike: 😧
Tumblr media
Berk:”What would you do?”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”May god protect you!”
Tumblr media
Asyie:”I thought we were going to stop talking about this!”
Tumblr media
Berk:”Okay, I am going to stop talking about it but I am really wondering about what you guys would do if that happened”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”Berk!”
Doruk:”What should we do Berkom? Do you have any special requests for what we should do?”
Tumblr media
Berk:”There is, my brother!”
Doruk:”What is it?”
Berk:”There is. Do you know what you should do? Laugh, brother! Look, laugh, don’t cry!”
Tumblr media
Aybike:*so done with him*
Tumblr media
Berk:”Do you know what you should also do? Wear clown outfits and come to my grave like that and I will be laughing from where I am sleeping and saying what are they doing”
Aybike:”Look guys, if I die, do exactly the opposite of what he just said, cry! I don’t want to see anyone not crying, especially you sweetheart, especially you! You won’t stop crying for years and years, Do you hear me? And I won’t even talk about looking at other girls because I know you won’t look at anyone *Berk was shaking his head*. Also, it be great if you feed the cats and dogs in our neighborhood”
Tumblr media
Berk:”my girlfriend who has a beautiful heart! You’re thinking about the neighborhood's cats and dogs. But you won’t mention death again, okay? It doesn’t suit you anyway (talking about death)”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”really?”
Asiye:”It’s sad, right Berk?”
Then Doruk talked about what he wanted them to do if he died. He wants them to go to a place they went to before and have a picnic there. This reminded me of the picnic they did all together before Kaan died. Then the girls told them to stop talking about death and Aybike told Berk:”If you die, I will kill you!”
Tumblr media
idk how you can kill someone who’s already dead but I think Aybike would find a way 😂
Elif made a bet with Oglucan: she will make any guy fall for her. She was playing football at school and Elif said that she will make the first guy who comes out of the front door fall for her and that guy was Tolga. Ofc Tolga is interested in Yasmin so I thought they will be using Elif as a third party in another useless "love triangle”. Elif went to sit with Tolga at the cafeteria but he was sitting with Yasmin so he told her to go away. Back at home, Elif was in the kitchen cutting tomatoes but she was distracted. Ayla noticed that. Elif asked Ayla if she was ugly and Ayla told her that she was beautiful. Elif said that maybe if she wore makeup and pretty clothes, guys would be interested in her. Berk came to the kitchen and told them that they were invited to Akif's house for dinner and Elif asked Berk if Tolga was coming. Ayla told her that she will help her get ready and Elif thanked her and told her that she's like a mother to her. When Oglucan opened the door, he was stunned and kept looking at Elif. Later during dinner, he told her that she looked pretty and she was happy. Oglucan told her that he liked her normal look. She asked Tolga about what he thinks of her look and he said she shouldn't ask him bc he doesn't understand these things. Elif told Oglucan that he won the bet and that she's giving up. I hope she is bc this was so unnecessary. Also, I love the chaotic energy these two have together and I can't wait for them to become a couple ❤️
Aybike was in the kitchen preparing potatoes and Berk was there too. He was complimenting her on her cooking skills bc it smelled good but Aybike told him not to expect such things from her.
Tumblr media
Aybike got the potatoes out of the oven but the plate was too hot for her so Berk tried to help her.
Berk:”is your hand okay?”
Tumblr media
Aybike:”I am okay but sweetheart, you could've been burned, what were you thinking?”
Tumblr media
Berk:”I am already burned, Aybike, by your beautiful love, do you think this will burn me?”
Tumblr media
Someone hose this man down!!! Why is he so horny in this episode 😂
Omer was chosen as the captain for the basketball team but the next morning, Susen noticed that the announcement said that Sarp was the captain. She told Omer and he asked the PE teacher and he said that since Seval is the new owner of the school, she wanted Sarp to be the captain. Omer was over it and didn't want to fight with Sarp over this but Susen was mad and she called Sarp disgusting. Sarp didn't like that. Later, Sarp, Susen and Omer were at the literature club. they were discussing a book and they talked about how the character was hiding a secret but then in the end he went to the police and told them everything. Sarp used this to annoy Susen and as he was about to leave, Susen called him stupid and that set Sarp off. He told Omer “why don't you ask your girlfriend about your brother’s accident”. Omer didn’t understand what he meant and at the same time he was pissed, so he ran after Sarp, shoved him into the storage room and strangled him while asking him what he meant. I think Omer thought Sarp was messing with him since they fought about inheritance the day before. Susen came and tried to get Omer off of Sarp but couldn’t. Omer was really about to kill Sarp so Susen told him the truth about Kadir’s accident. She told him that Melissa was the one who hit him and she saw everything. Susen told him that she wanted to tell him but Akif stopped her every time. She also told him that Akif was the one who brought Kadir to the hospital. Omer lost it and went to Akif’s house. He confronted him and Akif basically admitted that it was true and that Orhan and Sengul knew about it.
Omer called Asiye and told her that Melissa was the one who hit Kadir. Asiye was shocked, Doruk kept asking her what’s going on so she told him. Doruk got into his car and called his dad. He told him to tell him the truth. Akif said that his sister did not have a driving license and she was going to jail. Doruk got so mad and told him how is he going to look at Asiye’s face from now on. While Doruk was fighting with his dad on the phone two people tried to cross the street, Doruk saw them and swerved and his car rolled over. He was taken to the hospital but he died bc they couldn’t stop the internal bleeding. I’ve never seen someone get buried this fast. Berk wasn’t even at the hospital, the last time he saw Doruk was probably at school.
Overall, it was a good episode. A secret was revealed and Ayber got good scenes. I will miss Doruk and I will miss DorBer 😭 Concerning the timeline, I think they did a 3 weeks time jump from the ending of S3. Also, Oglucan talked about preparing for the university exam so hopefully that means this is their last semester in Attaman school.

Turkish dramas 🦋
Tumblr media
Okay, alright, as someone who truly believes that the world is filled with so many entertaining stories and shows that all need to be explored regardless of whether they're in different languages or not ( and I think that if you don't watch something because you're reading subtitles, you're missing out) I mean there are so many pros to exploring other cultures and languages.
Now that I am done with my little rant todays focus will be in Turkish dramas I recommend.
The difference in Turkish dramas compared to the rest of the other dramas I’ve watched like ( k dramas/ Korean dramas, Brazilian-dramas, telenovelas and more …) is probably just how entertaining they are without further ado my top recommended Turkish dramas
1. Hercai
The drama was recommended right smack in the middle of lockdown, so let's just say it saved me from boredom! In my opinion, this is the best Turkish drama I've ever watched. The storyline was amazing and filled with plot twists and crazy storylines. You'll never get bored watching it for a moment. You end up falling for the characters and getting caught up in Hercai's world. 10/10
Tumblr media
summary
Miran is seeking revenge for his parents death so he plans to marry daughter Reyyan from the family who was responsible for that. unexpectedly he falls in love with Reyyan.
2. Adim Farah
Tumblr media
alright running second is Adim Farah is the most recent drama, I've watched and oh my soul it's amazing its got action, comedy and a beautiful love story and if you're a big fan of a bit of mystery as well. 10/10 ( second season coming soon)
summary: farah is a 28 year old Iranian woman who works illegally as a cleaner in istanbul and witnesses a crime commited by the mafia her life takes a huge turn
3. ask 101(love 101)
Tumblr media
Someone said summer, yeah, this is the one. This show is two seasons and is a gripping story of friendship, love, and coming of age. 8/10
summary: love 101 ( ask 101) is a Turkish teen drama, that follows a group of 17-year-old misfits who set their mind on keeping their favourite teacher in town through a whole lot of scheming.
4. midnight at pera palace
Tumblr media
It's so good, I binge-watched the whole series in one go. It's giving mystery, it's giving suspense, and it's giving what it needs to 9/10
summary: a young journalist, Esra’s encounter with the legendary Pera Palace Hotel in Istanbul. When Esra is assigned to write a piece about the hotel, she accidentally discovers that one of the historic rooms is a portal to the year 1919. Thrust into the past, she lands in the middle of a political conspiracy against the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Together with Ahmet, the quirky hotel manager, Esra must protect the course of history and the future of Turkey. But Istanbul in 1919 is a dangerous place, and when Esra meets Halit, the handsome and mysterious owner of Istanbul’s wildest club, she realizes that in the Istanbul of 1919, nothing is as it seems and no one is who they say.
5. Who were we running from ( Biz kimden kaçiyorduk Anne)
Tumblr media
Another thriller packed drama, with a while lot of mystery overall you will not regret watching although trigger warning things can get intense. 7/10
Summary: mother and her young daughter Bambi are on the run, away from someone, staying in luxury hotels, keeping on the move, leaving a trail of bodies behind…
Alrighty folks that’s just the few of my fav recommendations !! I hope you enjoy 🙂
There’s many more recommendations 🤭to come

What Comes Next
Author's note: Late submission to Choices August Challenge. I was planning to post another fic, but this one also works for the same prompt. Also, I was dying to talk about Magnificent Century: Kösem, so I couldn’t miss the opportunity lol. [Original characters are creations of this author. The others are owned by Pixelberry Studios]
Book: Desire & Decorum (modern day AU) Pairing: Prince Hamid x MC (Daphne) Rating: T Word count: 2359 Reading time: 9 min Summary: Hamid just wants a peaceful night. But peace isn’t an option when Daphne has so many questions. Based on the prompt: @choicesaugustchallenge day twelve: modern AU
Tumblr media
Hamid placed two tall glasses of water on the coffee table and took a seat next to Daphne. Vegging out on the sofa was never his first choice on a Saturday night. After a fight, he usually would go out for a walk or a drive to clear his head. This time, however, he wasn't in the mood to leave.
Scratching the back of his head, he pondered about it. His eyes then landed on the young lady by his side, sipping her water whilst her eyes remained glued to the TV. Maybe her indoorsy traits were really rubbing off on him, like his sisters mentioned. Maybe it was because they had an intense argument and he just wanted a peaceful moment in his girlfriend's company. Either way, staying home sharing a large box of chocolate truffles and watching TV with her, somehow, was precisely how he wished to spend the rest of the night.
"Wanker..." Daphne grumbled then stuffed two truffles into her mouth as she scowled at the TV.
Or maybe not.
"Sorry for offending an ancestor of yours," she said with a frown.
"None taken." He glanced at her in curiosity. "But I have to say I'm a bit confused. I thought you liked Sultan Ahmet and Kösem."
"I do like them..."
"But...?"
"I just think it's unfair that he sleeps with other concubines as well. Sure, lots of babies died before their first birth in the sixteenth century and back then everyone thought it was the woman's fault if she didn't give birth to a boy. But it's still unfair! I mean, look at her!"
She pointed at the TV. The actress dressed as a sultana walked into the Topkapı Palace harem with firm steps and squared shoulders whilst all women bowed to her.
"Kösem is so pretty, so fierce and completely faithful to him. Meanwhile, Ahmet can shag the entire harem if he wants to."
Hamid pressed his lips together to fight back a laugh.
"I know this is a historical piece and feminism wasn't even a word back then. But... Urrrrgh!" Daphne gestured with her hands as though she was choking someone.
He chuckled softly. "I'm not going to disagree with you. Polygamy is a complicated form of marriage. During the Ottoman Empire, it must have been even worse."
"Oh?"
"Think about it." He shifted in his seat to look at his girlfriend. "The sultans didn't want an aristocracy to emerge and become another potential threat to the sultanate. Therefore, they chose to bed slaves. But to keep those women faithful, they had to find the right people to reeducate them since most of these women came from different places. They were allowed to have four wives and no matter how much the sultans respected and treated them equally, the sultana who gave birth to the crown prince was more powerful than the others."
"Which means there was constant rivalry among the sultanas and the heirs. Plus there’s the law of executing the other princes and..." Daphne frowned. "Hamidciğim?"
"Yes?"
"Did Sultan Ahmet eventually send Prince Mustafa to...?"
"No. Sultan Ahmet chose to ignore the fratricide law. Some believe it’s because he loved his brother dearly. Others think it was out of pity because Mustafa I was mentally ill. There’s also the theory we see in Muhteşem Yüzyıl: Kösem.”
“Sultan Ahmet saw Sultan Mehmet III kill his twenty-seven siblings while he grew up and didn’t wish to do the same.”
“Exactly. But no one knows for sure. What we know is that no one dared to kill Prince Mustafa."
"But isn't that what made Ahmet's sultanate so hard, right? Every sultana wanted their first son to become the next sultan."
"It is. Besides, having a harem meant many people to be responsible for, too much work that they had to be delegated and most likely many of those people spent years plotting to dethrone the Sultan. And may I add, many of them succeeded."
"Oof..."
"Oof indeed."
"So, if the Ottoman Empire still existed, you don't think nowadays sultan would have a harem."
"I'm not sure. The Ottoman Empire was determined to modernise itself and make alliances with western countries since the nineteenth century. These intercultural relations always influence both parties involved. At the very least, the sultans and other members of the empire eventually would've stopped bedding slaves, given that many were European women."
"Hm..." Daphne toyed with the ends of her hair, lost in thought. "If Murat bey was the sultan, he probably wouldn't have other wives then."
"If he did, annem wouldn't make his other wives' lives easy."
Daphne giggled.
"But as everyone knows, things didn't work as my great-grandfather hoped during World War I."
For a long moment, silence settled between them as they continued to watch the soap opera. Yet, from time to time, he sensed her attentive eyes appraising him.
"Hamidciğim?"
"Yes?"
"If you were the crown prince..."
"Which I am glad to say I'm not."
"I know... But if you were, do you think we would have met?"
Hamid furrowed his brows before answering. "Possibly. I certainly would've made some diplomatic visits to the UK. Perhaps I still would've studied in Cambridge and I would have met Lord Vincent."
"But do you think we still would date?"
"I—" He narrowed his eyes playfully. "Aşkım?"
"Yes?"
"Is there a reason why you're suddenly so curious about this hypothetical scenario in which I would be a prince?"
"Maybe..." She answered with a coy smile. "Earlier tonight you said I wasn't ready for what comes next in our relationship."
"I did."
"But you didn't tell me what the next step entails."
Hamid gazed at her intently. "You know what comes next."
"I do... But we come from different backgrounds and cultures. I don't know exactly how it will happen."
"And you want to know that now?"
"Hypothetically speaking, of course!" She looked down at her, fumbling with the hem of her jumper. "Just so I can be prepared for it..."
His lips curled upwards. "Very well."
Daphne put down the truffles box, tapped her phone screen to pause the soap opera and looked at him expectantly.
It was surprising to witness her eagerness to know about Turkish traditions o this subject. Was it just curiosity or was it something else? Yet, Hamid knew better than that. He couldn't push his luck so soon.
"If we come forward as a couple, my entire family would have to go to Edgewater, we would pay your family a visit so they could have a chance to meet. If your family approves me, we’d schedule a second meeting."
"It really happens as fast as in Turkish soap operas, huh?"
"It could be faster. But we're lucky babam is an open-minded man and doesn't pressure any of his children to get married."
"Is Nesrin already married because of your mother?"
"And Malak will be next if she keeps living in Turkish territory."
Her brows furrowed slightly. "But isn't she a year older than me?"
"The right age for marriage, according to annem." He made a face.
"People do get married really young here... Hey, is that why you and Yusuf ran away from Turkey after military service?"
"We didn't run!"
"Didn't you?"
"Of course not! Yusuf wanted to live in a country more LGBTQ+ friendly. And I was..." He trailed off as Daphne stared at him with an arched eyebrow. "Yeah, okay… I guess we did run away to avoid our families pushing us to marry any random girl they find suitable."
"Thank you. That's all I needed to hear." She smirked. "Now back to the second meeting."
Smarty-pants... He shook his head and continued. "On the second meeting, my family and I will bring you chocolates, Turkish delights. It's not part of the tradition, but I could give you flowers."
"Tulips and roses?"
"I'll redecorate your family's estate with all the flowers you find beautiful if you want, my love."
The corners of her eyes wrinkled as she smiled timidly. "What else?"
"Next, babam would ask Lord Vincent your hand in marriage. Parents nowadays want to know their daughters' opinions about the proposal. If you'd say yes, both of us would stand up and ask our future in-law's blessings with a kiss on their hands."
"Aw... how sweet."
"And you'd have to call my parents 'baba' and 'anne' from that moment on."
"Really?" Her eyes went round. "Would your mother be okay with it?"
"Yes. Annem always respects and follows traditions."
The surprise on her face was visible. Yet, given how disastrous their first encounter was, her reaction wasn't so far-fetched.
"Would we have our rings tied with a red ribbon?"
"Yes."
"And you would wear it too."
"Proudly," he whispered, pulling her close to kiss her cheek.
Daphne went quiet, but her eyes sparkled as she was lost in thoughts.
"If we stay really quiet, I think I can hear the wheels turning inside your head," he joked.
"Huh?"
"What were you thinking about, aşkım?"
"It was just a silly idea... I don't know how you'd feel about it."
"That's easy to fix. Tell me your idea and I tell you how I feel about it."
She pursed her lips, but couldn't suppress a smile.
"Am I wrong?"
"Fine..." Daphne shifted in her seat to make herself more comfortable. "I was just thinking about what you said and I don't know why you're fussing so much about it. Getting engaged isn't a bad thing..."
Hamid pulled away and stared at her in astonishment. "Excuse me?!"
"It's no big deal... Engagements nowadays are just like dating. Except we have to plan a wedding at some point. If we had to do that so your family would get off your back..."
A rueful laugh escaped his lips as he kissed her forehead. "You're adorable, aşkım..."
The lady scowled again.
"Hey, what's with the mean face? What did I do?"
"You used your nice tone with me, which means you just called me naive."
His hand immediately massaged the back of his neck. She was right. He just didn't know she could see right through him.
"Daphne, you're not ready to know the rest."
"But I will be prepared for it if you tell me everything." Daphne moved closer to him and cupped his face. "We're still just hypothetically speaking about the future. None of these things will happen right now."
The diplomat heaved a sigh. If only she knew how many times he had pictured them together in these hypothetical scenarios. And though she wasn't ready to hear everything, she would still pester him about it.
"Please?" Daphne pouted, giving him her best puppy eyes impression.
"All right..." He chuckled. "As we discussed before, Turkish people usually marry in their early twenties."
"Yes."
"But I'm 27."
"And that means...?"
"It means that if we follow my family's tradition, everyone would berate us so much about why we're not married yet they'd make our lives miserable."
Daphne grimaced. "So we'd have to be married in a year."
"Aşkım, after three months of engagement, people would start asking questions. And in six months, they'd try to get your family on board for an intervention."
"What?!" Her eyes went round as she began to blurt "But that's too little time! How can we even book the right venue in less than a year? And we still have to choose the theme of the reception, the catering, decorations, flowers, gifts, your tux, my gown... Oh dear God, I—"
Hamid placed a hand over hers and whispered. "Daphne?"
As they locked eyes, he smiled softly at her and her breathing slowed down.
"This is why I didn't tell you about it. I don't want you to feel pressured to meet my family's expectations. I never followed their ideal timeline of when a person should get married and have kids. And neither should you."
"So this is why you’re okay with keeping our relationship low profile."
"Even after we choose to tell everybody about us, I still want us to do everything in our own time."
Her shoulders relaxed as she nodded. "Sound good to me."
Lifting her hand to his lips, he kissed her knuckles and reached for the remote control to resume watching.
"Hamidciğim?"
"Yes?"
"When do you think you're going to be ready?"
He glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "Whenever you think of planning a wedding without panicking," he taunted.
"I didn't panic!"
He gave her another side eye.
"I was just surprised. I never had to actually plan a wedding before."
"Weren't you engaged before?"
"I was. But I didn't have the chance to set a date or plan the whole event with anyone else. I just had a few Pinterest boards..."
"A few? As in less than thirty?"
"Don't mock me!" Daphne shoved him.
"I would never." Hamid chortled. "But there's no need for Pinterest boards now. I don't plan to make any proposals before we reach the third year together."
"The third year? Why?"
"In three years, we'll know each other really well. You'll be in your last year of uni, I'll have finished my MBA... I might be looking for a place in London or Edgewater then,” he explained with a knowing look.
"Three years, huh?"
"Give or take."
"Okay."
With a nod, Daphne sat back resting her head on his shoulder as they resumed watching the soap opera in silence. Or so he thought.
"Aşkım?" He called as he caught the sight of her scrolling through Pinterest.
"Mmm?"
"Are you bored? We can watch something else."
"No. I want to see if Hümaşah Sultana will tell Zülfikar about İskender."
"Then you'll be very disappointed to find out you just missed it whilst you were looking through all these wedding gowns on Pinterest."
"What?!" She glanced at the TV and her cheeks flushed crimson.
Hamid chortled.
"These aren't wedding gowns... These are regular gowns."
"In white?"
"They're not white! I just figured I don't have any formal gown in lighter colours and decided to take a look."
"Is that so? What colour is that dress you added to this board named Three Years (give or take)?" He pointed to a strapless A-line gown with draped wraps along the bodice and skirt.
"Ivory..." She mumbled.
He grinned.
"It's not white! Ivory is a completely different colour!"
"If you say so..." Hamid raised his hands defensively and reached for the box of chocolate truffles, lifting one to his mouth.
As Daphne continued to scroll through Pinterest, he added. "If you decide to make a board for suits and tuxedos, add me as a board collaborator."
Her features lit up as she squealed and hugged his left arm.
After planting a kiss on the top of her head, Hamid, at last, savoured the rest of the night and the box of truffles blissfully.

Bruce Springsteen Inducts Jimmy Iovine into Rock Hall: ‘A Visionary Executive Who Never Took Off His Fan Shoes’
Prolific producer, executive, and co-founder of Beats by Dre received the Ahmet Ertegun Award
Sarah GrantNovember 6, 2022
Prolific producer, executive, and co-founder of Beats by Dre received the Ahmet Ertegun Award
Jimmy Iovine has had one of the most illustrious careers in music. Over the course of five decades, from engineer to producer to executive and entrepreneur, Iovine has been at the crossroads of some of music’s biggest moments. On Saturday, Bruce Springsteen recalled a particularly meaningful one during his glowing speech, inducting his “little brother” Iovine into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and presenting him with the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
It was 1978. “No one knew what the words Mercedes Benz meant to me,” Springsteen said. “But Jimmy knew.” It took getting Springsteen in his orange Mercedes and taking him on a drive to Coney Island, to convince him to give the unfinished composition “Because The Night” to a punk band called the Patti Smith Group.
“With Jimmy’s guidance, Patti turns ‘Because The Night’ into a huge Top Five hit record,” Springsteen said as the audience cheered. “Something that I could never have done, because I didn’t have the guts to turn it into a love song … Jimmy knows great songs and he knows who can sing them. He has one of the greatest guts for talent is one of the greatest sponges for learning I’ve ever met.”
Springsteen, who met Iovine as the “skinny Italian kid” changing the tape on the recording machine, spoke about watching his career unfold in spectacular ways as he trusted his artists, honored his relationships, and never “took off his fan shoes.”
Read Bruce Springsteen’s full speech inducting Jimmy Iovine into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame:
Jimmy Iovine has graduated from being the skinny Italian kid who changes the tape and hits the start and stop buttons on the recording machine to the skinny Italian kid at the console engineer on Born To Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town. I walk in the studio and Jon just says to me, ‘he told me he could do it.’ I asked him ‘what’s this kid doing at our mixing boards?’ But somehow, he did it, and on an engineer’s salary, he had parked outside the Record Plant, an orange Mercedes. Now, this was a moment when no one knew what the words Mercedes Benz meant to me. Jimmy knew. What else does Jimmy know? That afternoon, gets me in that honorable Mercedes Benz, and takes me on a little drive to Coney Island. On the way, he casually drops, “What’re going to do with that song, “Because The Night?”
“Whattya mean? It’s an outtake, it’s unfinished.”
“That’s what I mean. If you’re not gonna finish it…”
[Bruce interjects defensively] “Yeah I am!”
“What are you gonna do with it?” [Iovine says.] “I want to get Patti Smith to sing it.”
Of course, with Jimmy’s guidance, Patti turns “Because The Night” into a huge Top Five hit record. Something that I could never have done because I didn’t have the guts to turn it into a love song as Jimmy [did.]
Jimmy knows great songs and he knows who can sing them. He has one of the greatest guts for talent is one of the greatest sponges for learning I’ve ever met. Jimmy misses nothing. […] Trust your artists. Let them know. Hire the best people. Give them the reins. Don’t be intimidated by talent. Recognizing her talent is your talent. Jimmy is brave and smart. He turned his relationship with the great Dr. Dre into one of the greatest and most valuable partnerships in the music business. He trusted Dre’s vision and he recognized the power of hip-hop and its ability to conquer the culture.
Now, of course as an entrepreneur, he tells me he told Dre, ‘We shouldn’t make sneakers, we should make speakers!” So they did. They made millions of them. Jimmy has the intelligence, the art, the soul, and the trust to understand his artists, to put them first, and to put the business of music in its proper perspective. It isn’t rocket science, except for the fact that pretty much no one else was doing it the way he did.
He is an incredibly well-rounded, visionary executive. Jimmy never took off his fan shoes. You need to keep them on. I still get messages from him with Born To Run blasting in the background. Jimmy recognized that the chemistry in Jon and I’s relationship is the secret formula — not just for rock and roll magic but for rock and roll. What does Jimmy know? Jimmy knew everything important. So, Jim, all I can say is [unintelligible]. Congratulations, little brother. Welcome to the Hall of Fame.

Hello! I just finished son yaz (bec at the time it was being aired I was hooked on to other shows) and I truly feel like I’ve lost a piece of me.
I’ve always been hyper aware of the fact that I’m watching other dizis and stuff; and I don’t know if it has to do with the fact that I haven’t seen any bloopers or what, but it genuinely felt like spending time with family. I think it might also have to do with the cinematography and how the angles made it feel like we were part of conversations especially in scenes with Selim and Akgun.
I personally don’t know how short notice ending the dizi was and can’t judge the second season fairly. However a few points that just… don’t really make sense to me and I think should’ve been a priority to expand on a bit more
Why are Sare and Akgun friendly at the end? Like I get the premise of Selim turning himself in settling the personal problems with Sare but Akgun?
It was made a point to show that Ahmet was taking care of the restaurant even though Eray didn’t ask him to (swoon), and the whole knowing how Emel’s mood was based on what she was drinking. AND? I assumed she’d like him romantically bec the interaction seemed very soft but it wasn’t reflected during their interaction at Semih’s birthday. Not to mention I don’t really get what happened with Metin? They seemed flirty then 3 years later, oh yea forgot to tell you they got divorced?? And remained civil but let’s not talk to him about Naz marrying Soner or him not being at his grandson’s birthday 3 years later lol. (Maybe the actor left idk but they could’ve mentioned the guy)
I would’ve liked to see how Soner dealt with Mert’s men without a gun because it felt like was such a big deal. I liked how they implied he wasn’t at the birthday and then he was like surprise bitches I was at work, but it feels a bit like a loose end. :/
Speaking of Soner, I feel like sometimes stuff was added as fillers into the episodes instead of giving us more Naz and Soner content. I realize they’re not the main couple but I think they had just the right amount of angst and would’ve liked to see more of them.
Back to the whole “I don’t know how long before they last episode they knew”, Cihan’s mother and Selcuk felt like such a loose end. I know it was meant to bring the car into the situation but I don’t know how I feel about it. AND what happened to Selcuk? Did I miss something?
I don’t think we ever got to know what happened to the Sancaktars, I feel like Cihan could’ve cleared his families name as he claimed and been at the party but I guess not lmao.
Weirdly enough, I really like how Canan’s killer situation was handled at the end. It showed how Akgun grew as a person (6 years ago he would have definitely checked that file and acted on what he read).
Overall, it’s a lovely show. I understand that the writers had a vision and weren’t able to fully see it happen. I guess the stuff I mentioned isn’t stuff I full on hate but stuff I would’ve liked to see. And maybe stuff that I know would’ve given me more content to check again every once in a while 😭
Hello, dear friend! Well, I understand all the unanswered questions. But the cancellation was very sudden so it was inevitable really that there were so many loose ends. Some things were left open on purpose, I think. Since there was hope that maybe the show would be saved, picked up by another channel or whatever.
As for Metin, I think it was the actor's decision not to return for the second season. Of course, they could've handled his absence better, maybe mention him a bit more but he wasn't a lead character, like Canan, so I understand why they never really brought him up.
I never cared about any of the Sancaktars, apart from Soner, obviously, and maybe Cihan. Too bad that his storyline with Yağmur remained unresolved.
But in the end, I think everyone involved did a wonderful job with the finale, given the circumstances.

Hello, I just found your blog and I like it very much, it’s very interesting to read!!!. My question is : what is your opinion on Ahmed and Kosem’s relationship? Do you think he truly loves her? What do you think about him seeing other women? And what do you think about his relationship with these women (Mahfiruz, Katerina, Gulbahar and Yasemin).
Thank you for liking my stuff!
I think that, just like Süleiman, Ahmet loves Kösem in his own way. It's not as toxic or problematic or often questionable writing-wise as Süleiman's love for Hürrem, but it still has both its ups and downs that make it interesting to explore.
Ahmet and Kösem is perhaps the love story where the writers made the most effort to mask the possible worse aspects of. It could even be considered actually romantic at points, with their amazing first scenes in the gardens and the amazing chemistry of Ekin Koç and Anastasia Tsilimpou, the beginning sense of wonder and "mystery" it started out with.... when she first met him, Anastasia didn't know he was the sultan and put all her trust in him - a certainly good first impression. Ahmet himself is also very far from Süleiman's direct endeavors and tests of loyalty, he tries his best to be respectful in his own way, despite that he fails to do that a bunch of times. That's why it's easy to miss the darker aspects of the relationship at first and it could be perceived as probably the only thing in the franchise that is remotely close to a "fairytale" of sorts.
However, when the curtains start to fall slowly, but surely, we come to realize that while, say, Hürrem learns to want what Süleiman wants, to be fully loyal to him and to cave to his demands just like he often caves to her own, Ahmet and Kösem as characters have entirely different values and needs throughout their whole relationship. The fact that Ahmet wanted Anastasia because of a picture, without him having ever met her, is incredibly telling: he has created an ideal of her in his own head from the start and he wants to consistently maintain it. When he's with her, it's as if he's living his own dream, his own perfect world that has place only for him and that young girl. (that's why the garden is so symbolic: Ahmet calls it a place of solitude, only for himself almost immediately after the audience is introduced to it; also that line from him: "The world is on one side, Kösem - on the other." - quoting by memory again, but the meaning is the same) Their world views gained from their past and present environments begin to clash from the moment she finds out he's a Sultan - she wants to desperately go back to her family, both because all of them are still alive and her free spirit that cannot bear to live in this golden cage. Ahmet doesn't let her go also because he lacks the understanding of this desire: he has grown in the strict Ottoman system and having people like Anastasia stay in the harem forever is something he finds perfectly natural; for him it's unthinkable to stand against it. But despite of that "minor offense", Ahmet's idea of Anastasia's "purity" and "perfection" was working for awhile, with her seeming to meet his expectations and slowly warm up to him. But the real truth is way stronger than your own made-up lies. Anastasia's pleas to let her go only get stronger until they reach their climax with her attempt to escape. And you know what? If it weren't for her contrived, yet convenient excuse to come back to him, he would've lost her. Helplessly, in a blink of an eye, he would've lost her, due to what she sees as sheer ignorance from his part. And when she gains her own bit of agency later in the season and becomes Kösem, when she develops and realizes the actual stakes of the game, beginning to play it herself due to survival by default and the will for revenge, Ahmet's "perfect picture" breaks apart and that apparently hurt him so much, he stayed mad at her for quite some time. This wasn't the person he knew and loved anymore, this was an entirely new, reborn woman. He didn't seem to love and respect her for the virtues she actually possessed, but for those that he had imagined her to always have in his head. That is another, more "subtle" level of toxicity than with Hürrem and Süleiman, but it's still toxicity, that's why this relationship is far from healthy and the "beautiful, but quirky" dynamic it sets the impression of.
Kösem's view of Ahmet is very interesting and complex, writing-wise. I actually don't think she grew to love him as much. The place she forcibly got in made her feel very limited by him mostly, since he was the reason she was here in the first place and he was calling the shots in terms of her future (whether she would visit her family or not?). What made her become a bit affectionate wasn't fully him himself, but rather the oh-so-prominent theme of adaption in the harem. She wanted to escape so desperately, but there were so many happenings and situations during the time she was in the harem that just demanded for her to get used to everything. So when Iskender gave her the chance to escape, she as become used to the harem's environment so much, she felt unsure of herself outside of it. Her return was out of necessity rather than love and even her standing up to the people when Ahmet was sick was done out of necessity, too (like I elaborated in another ask about Kösem). I'm not saying that she didn't feel any affection whatsoever, but the affection she felt for him was easy to let go of (E25: "Today I didn't marry only Sultan Ahmet, I married the country!"), because I don't think Ahmet did his best efforts to understand her and I don't think Kösem felt completely comfortable around him, all that contrasted with Kemankeş in S02, who according to her, understands her better than anyone ever could.
Ahmet loves Kösem, because even after his perfect picture with her was broken and his anger and denial and refusal to accept it passed, he did try to make things better. What I loved most about his dynamic with Kösem, is his open honesty with her that continued till the end. There have been scenes where they seemed like true companions, especially their beginning one in E21 with all the kids gathered around them. I loved that despite of his mistakes, he did try to set things right. There was this sudden protectiveness that activated in him when Kösem told him the truth about the death of his father and why she acted the way she did and that could mean she now became something of a "cinnamon roll he just protect" and that is certainly a flawed mindset to have in many aspects, but that showed he could actually care for her beyond his idealistic perspective of her.
Am I okay with Ahmet having other women? Honestly, I'm glad that MCK lowered the concubine arcs to a minimum and with the way they did it, it doesn't offend me as much. I would even love some of them to be more developed for a change, because they did turn out to be solely drama tools, thanks to their lesser episodes and MCK's different themes as a whole, that basically did their purpose and left, instead of stretch out and outstay their welcome and that is just the other extreme in a bad disguise.
I won't talk about the relationship he had with his other women as much, because they just aren't fleshed out. I would've liked to see more of Ahmet and Mahfiruze: I believe he was way more decent with her than say, Süleiman was with Mahidevran, and their scenes weren't half bad. Too bad that would've demanded Mahfiruze herself to be fleshed out more as a character and the writers to give her more of a place in the narrative. Katerina was present only for an episode (or was it two episodes?) and we don't have as much conclusions to drive here. We only have his mild infatuation with her and... that's it? We have no idea what Katerina actually felt or how their dynamic would play out in the long run. We can only speculate. Gülbahar, by contrast, also had the least screentime of all his women who have comparatively minimal screentime, but her exploration in S02 helps us gain a better idea of how it went between them. I have the impression that she was the least favourite concubine of Ahmet's, ever. She did succeed to get pregnant and have a child, but it probably was a one and done thing and she didn't seem to get any other grasp of manly affection since then. Which is why, along with them taking away Bayezid from her by exiling her, she was so focused on scheming for one particular goal and this became what defined her. But then again, that is still a speculation in my part. Now, with Yasemin we have much more on-screen chemistry and interaction: that relationship felt very similar with what Süleiman thought of Firuze - infatuation, massive infatuation, but still not love, because just like Firuze, Yasemin also gave him poison and we don't know how much the poison affected his psyche, along with the sickness it brought upon him. These relationships have the opposite problem MC's concubine arcs had: these women were all unfavored or favored very temporarily in the span of an episode or two, which made them very stale and lacking in material.
Lastly, while MCK in its entirety, isn't very big on love stories, Kösem and Ahmet's relationship still had an evolution throughout S01, even if that evolution was more "condensed" than the others similar to it. It still remains the most fleshed out love story in the show, along with Kösem and Kemankeş's, and it was a very important part of the story that helped shape much of the narrative that succeeds it.

The Metropolitan label was, like Nick Doneff’s Kaliphon label, an offshoot of Adjin Asllan’s Balkan label. It released some of the most niche releases of the Near Eastern immigrant community in the 1940s-50s, including the five discs made by Victoria Hazan in Ladino, nine discs in Armenian by Edward Bogosian (see the Canary album Everything is Fake), and about 26 discs in Turkish. Of the Turkish-language releases, the first eight were by Greek-speaking Balkan-roster mainstays Marko Melkon (including two sides sung by Victoria Hazan; see the Canary releases I Go Around Drinking Raki, No News From Tomorrow, and Don’t Let Me Be Lost To You B-Sides) and Virginia Magidou (see the Canary release I Was Born a Badass Chick) plus one additional disc - her only release - by one Sarah Behar (see the Canary album No News From Tomorrow).
The remaining 17 known Metropolitan discs in Turkish were credited to five performers who appear not to have recorded either before or after, all of whom have Turkish names - not Armenian, Greek, Jewish, or Albanian as all of the other artists on Balkan, Metropolitan, and Kaliphon were. Turks represented a small minority of those who emigrated from Ottoman territories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Frank Ahmed's Turks in America: The Ottoman Turk's Immigrant Experience (Columbia International, 1993) and subsequent research by his student Işil Acehan indicate that Turks tended not to immigrate through New York due to discrimination against Muslims. They generally opted instead to enter the U.S. through Providence, Rhode Island. Only single men were admitted, the vast majority of whom were rural villagers who settled in the Massachusetts towns of Peabody, Salem, and Lynn where they worked primarily in the leatherworks, the population peaking shortly before WWI at just over 2,000 individuals. Nearly all of them returned to Turkey by 1930.
We have no immigration details or press references for any of the individuals on the Metropolitan label recordings, and there is no ore from within the community of those who remember stories of the music of that time and place. With once exception, the violinist Yekta Akinci (b. 1905; d. 1980) who was the son of the musician Ahmet Mükerrem Akinci, we have not been able to trace biographical data for them. They were certainly not part of the immigrant population.
Accompanied by the core Balkan-label accompanists Marko Melkon, Nick Doneff, and Garbis Bakirgian, they recorded a total of 34 sides. My first guess was that they were immigrant musicians performing, for reasons I could not begin to explain, under Turkish pseudonyms. It was the researcher Harry Kezelian who proposed that that they were touring musicians.
Near Eastern musicians (Greek, Armenian, Lebanese, etc.) who toured the U.S. during the 1940s-50s were generally “name” players who had records out, not only in the homeland but also issued in the U.S. - Rosa Eskenazi, Sami el Chawwa, Giannis Papaiouannou, Udi Hrant, etc. The mystery of how and why these Turkish performers could have shown up without some extant biographical data might be explained by an exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum in November, 1951 titled “Turkey Today,” presented in cooperation by Turkey's Ministry of Information. The exhibition included Turkish handicrafts and photos as well as watercolor painting by Turkish children. A press release for the show’s opening states:
On Saturday November 17th at 3:00 PM, the Brooklyn Museum will present a program of Turkish Folk Music and Songs in connection with the exhibition. Admission to the public is free.
It is our speculation at present that these five Turkish musicians (or some of them) may have been sent by the Turkish Ministry of Information to play at this Brooklyn Museum exhibition opening. (Kezelian has pointed out that Turkey was admitted to NATO only three months later; the exhibit was likely part of a goodwill campaign to strengthen ties with the West under the third president Celâl Bayar’s administration.) Whether Melkon or Doneff attended the event and met the performers there or whether Adjin Asllan’s brother Selim knew them from Istanbul, where he had lived and made recordings for the Balkan label a couple years earlier, enters into the realm of fantasy. We don’t know.
The performances themselves are stylistically typical both of Turkey's urban nightclubs of the late 40s and early 50s as well as the "oriental" nightclubs around New York's 8th Avenue, Port Said and the Brittania in particular where Doneff and Melkon worked regularly. It is easy to imagine that Melkon and Doneff relished the opportunity to exchange tunes and jam with players from the current scene of Turkey’s metropolis and took advantage of the opportunity to play with musicians who had their fingers close to the pulse of modern Turkey. The only other two immigrant players on the session were Garbis Bakirgian (b. 1884; d. 1969), a classically trained native of Istanbul, and the pianist and bandleader T. Agabey who was himself a mysterious figure on the New York scene. Agabey’s discs for Doneff’s Kaliphon label sold well enough to indicate that he was a New Yorker with a following, and his style was a unique synthesis of Turkish popular melodies with the kind of small-group pop-jazz combo format that was ubiquitous around New York bars before the advent of commonplace jukeboxes sent low-paid, union-card-holding musicians searching for work as studio sidemen or with wedding bands.
We can say with certainty that the 17 discs made by this circle of Turks did not sell well. The Turkish-speaking immigrant population of the U.S., although accustomed to buying discs on the Balkan-Kaliphon-Metropolitan circle of labels through the 1940s, being largely Armenian and Greek, did not respond enthusiastically to buying discs by these unknown Turkish performers recorded in New York even with familiar names listed on the labels as their accompanists. It seems reasonable to suppose that each of the discs was given only a single pressing of 500 copies. Surviving copies turn up infrequently, and there is marginal interest in them when they do. In the history of Near Eastern music in the U.S., they are marginalia to a footnote.
The twelve sides presented here include all four by Caylani Instanbuli Anemde, one of two unaccompanied improvisations by violinist Yekta Akinci, three of the ten sides by Ali Fasih Tekin, four of fourteen by Zeki Arikan, and, unfortunately, none of the four by Vahit Artan. The remaining sides represent not only gaps for the discographies of the obscure primary performers but also missing pieces of the work of their accompanists who are among the most significant immigrant musicians of the middle of the 20th century in New York. We hope to add to the the collection over time.

¡El Dìa de Campo!
Today both SAS and CEC had a field day at Olivia’s farm! Real spoiled this week seeing the SASers 3 days. We all got to Olivia’s farm for a day of hands on activities and cultural learning. We split up into three groups to run through stations of how things are still done in less modern parts of the country.
Station 1: Prepping chickens.
Today i killed a chicken! It hung upside down from a rope hung to its feet, and I sliced its neck enough to bleed but not enough to kill it so that the blood would flow out.
Moving on.
Then we dunked it in boiling water, plucked the feathers, thankfully someone else dealt with the innards, and then I was handed a big ole butcher knife and was taught how to properly cut it. Unfortunately, i have no photos from this station because my hands were NASTY. Honestly, loved learning how to properly make the cuts. Fuels the belief that i could survive on my own in the wild.
Station 2: Washing our Clothes in the River
This was pretty self explanatory and if you’ve ever washed clothes on a hotel sink, you’re not missing much. The downside of this station was when I put my backpack on the ground i didn’t realize that 50,000 ants would crawl inside of it (I set my backpack down a lot, this has never happened). So when i went to put my backpack on my body, i was then bit by 50,000 ants. I am currently in pain and un poco delirious from the Benadryl. Once again, moving on.
Station 3: Husking Rice!
We had to pound whole grains of rice until they separated from their husks. It was really hot, and to finish the amount we were working with took about 2 hours. Then you use a big flat scooped out wooden bowl thing to toss the rice in the air so that the husks fly off in the wind.
Station ??4??: Prepping Lunch!
With the chickens we killed we made soup, and we also cooked the rice we had just husked! Honestly, the chicken being alive hours prior really didn’t bother me at all? If you can eat the meat you should be able to see how the sausage gets made. I’m more excited that it’s some of the freshest food I’ve ever eaten.
Seems like a lot of stations: Machete lessons!
We were taught the proper way to use our machetes, and then very precariously balanced on the side of a mountain while clearing a path. I really loved that. Had a very serious talk about how machetes are an extension of your arm.
Lastly, we had a dance lessons. All of our current teachers, instructors, and facilitators showed us classic Panamanian dances and then we had the option to try them. Consensus? The gringos can’t dance. But I LOVED the skirt and i really want my own.
Today was more what I thought PST was going to be like and it was so fun. Also, I’m so obnoxiously disgusting right now. A very full day! Nice to see all of our teachers outside of a classroom setting. After i got home, Ahmet, Cate, Natalie and I did some yoga and now I’m preparing for the best bucket shower of my life.
Estoy contenta. Mañana tengo mi segundo entrevista de español. No estoy nerviosa.
Photos to come in a separate post, I’m pushing my hotspot to the limits rn.

Kardeşlerim Ep 69
Gather around my fellow Ayber stans for today our suffering comes to an end.  For months, the writers pushed an ugly crack ship down our throats and we were forced to watch so many disgusting scenes. I had an aytrash stan lurking on this blog and for two months I received so many asks making fun of Ayber which I deleted but that ends today! Raise your glasses full of all 5 aytrash stans tears 🥂 and let’s celebrate our babies getting back together🥳
After Omer learned that Ahmet is his father, he was so sad. Omer said he had one father and it was Vali. Omer mentioned his father's name and Berk was at the party so I am guessing he heard him and he might put two and two together when he watches that cursed video on his dad’s phone.
Leyla heard Oglucan talk about the bet and asked Berk if he brought her to the party because of that. Berk denied it but in the end he told her that she also wanted to go out with him because of Susen and Omer. Leyla asked him what was the prize for the bet and he said that it was money so she slapped him. She said she's not going to tell Tolga.
The next day at school, Afra poured water on Sarp's face because of what he did to her at the party. Sarp told her that Oglucan lied and that there wasn't any bet and Berk lied and said that Sarp was right. After Afra left, Berk told Sarp that they should stop the bet but Sarp said that he wants to continue. Berk couldn’t' tell him that Leyla knew about the bet.
Later, Berk saw Leyla in the corridor. Berk apologized to her and told her that he didn't tell Sarp that she knew about their bet. Leyla was hoping that he didn't tell him. Leyla and Tolga are saving money to get out of their father's house and while Tolga is working at the restaurant Leyla is not working but she was hoping to tutor some students. Unfortunately, no one has called her yet. So, she told Berk that she will help Berk win the bet against Sarp and he will give her half the prize money. Berk was surprised at first but then he agreed.
Tumblr media
During the break, Berk asked Leyla if she was sure about her decision and whether she was trying to trick him. She told him that her brother and her needed the money. Then she saw Sarp looking at them so she started laughing and acting like she was having fun with Berk. She touched his hair and he was like what are you doing??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She said that Sarp is looking at them, so he understood and started laughing.
Tumblr media
At that moment, Aybike came to school and saw them. She looked shocked. Berk and Leyla didn’t see her.
Tumblr media
Later in the evening, Aybike and Asiye were sitting together in Aybike’s room. Aybike told Asyie that she saw Berk and Leyla at school and they were so close. Asiye told her: "so you got jealous?". Aybike told her that she wasn't jealous because she ended things with Berk. Asyie told her that she probably misses Berk and Aybike kept on denying it. Even Asiye saw through her BS. She was like okay if you say so 😂
The next day, Sarp wanted to humiliate himself so Afra can forgive him and he can continue the bet. So he went to the costumes room at school and dressed up as a clown. This is the freaking clown spoiler, it was about Sarp. This was a dumb plot twist. He came to the class dressed as a clown so Afra can see him.
Tumblr media
Leyla texted Berk: "This show is because of the bet right? You guys are really disgusting!"
Tumblr media
Berk texted back: "I agree! We are!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aybike saw Berk texting Leyla and she got jealous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After class, Leyla asked Berk if they were going to lose the bet after Sarp's clown show and Berk said that if Sarp continue like this then he will definitely win.
Leyla: "So what's your plan then?"
Tumblr media
Berk: "This"
Tumblr media
Berk: "Come on"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They walked while holding hands in school.
Tumblr media
Aybike saw them. She was so shocked and sad.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She told the others that she forgot her notebook in class but she went to the classroom to cry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sarp saw Berk and Leyla holding hands. Berk texted him saying  "Game over bro. Bring the money tomorrow if you don't mind"
Leyla asked Berk if Sarp was going to bring the money tomorrow and Berk told her that he texted him. Leyla said that even if he brings the money tomorrow, they will separate/break up. Berk told her not to worry and that they were only acting, it's no big deal. Leyla said that this benefited him since he was trying to make Aybike jealous. Berk told her that she must be joking because Aybike left him and she does not even look at his face anymore. Leyla was confused and told him that Aybike looked upset when she saw them holding hands just now and he was surprised. She also told him that Aybike asked her about him at the party and if there was something going on between them. My boy couldn’t believe it: “Aybike was curious and asked you about me, right? Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?”
Tumblr media
Leyla said that she didn't because Aybike told her that she wasn't mad at her but after seeing her reaction earlier..
Leyla: "Berk!! Aybike still loves you probably!!!"
Tumblr media
Berk: "YES"
Leyla: "YES"
Tumblr media
Berk: "or she wouldn't have asked you about me, right?"
Tumblr media
Leyla: "Right!"
Tumblr media
Berk: "and you said she got upset now! omg this girl probably still loves me!! Thank God!"
Tumblr media
Berk: "Thank god but she saw us like that earlier... god damn it! what am I going to do now? This time she's really not going to look at me!! I hope she didn't leave school yet"
Tumblr media
Leyla: "RUN!!"
Tumblr media
and he went to look for her but unfortunately she already left. She went to the beach.
Tumblr media
She and Berk came to this place before.
Tumblr media
They were throwing rocks in the water and Berk was winning because he was throwing them farther than hers.
Tumblr media
Berk: "Would you be sad if we broke up"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "Why are you asking this question now?"
Tumblr media
Berk: "I don't know! I feel like you're going to say: “No, I won't be sad, I won't be in pain and you will be stubborn about it" "
Tumblr media
Aybike: "If we break up, I will definitely be angry and then I'll come here and I'll secretly scream and cry. Probably! Maybe! So don't be too happy!"
Tumblr media
Berk: "How can I be happy you crazy? Is there something good about breaking up with you? If something like that happens, I will lose my mind, okay?"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "Okay"
Tumblr media
Berk: "My beautiful"
Tumblr media
then he told her that she won and she said no she wants to continue until she wins and he was like "okay okay" 😂
*Back to the present*
Aybike screaming at the sea: "He will lose his mind! He will lose his mind! He will lose his mind if we broke up! You said you were going to lose your mind!! So why didn't you lose your mind!! How will you lose your mind?? How?? "
Tumblr media
Aybike: "I hate you! But you know how to go and hold someone else's hand immediately! you know how to go and hold someone else's hand immediately! I hate you! I hate you! Stupid! Stupid liar! Stupid liar!"
Tumblr media
Berk came behind her and heard everything. He threw a rock in the water and Aybike turned and saw him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Berk: "If you believed that I forgot about you, then you’re the stupid one"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "What are you talking about? " and she pushed him
Berk: "I never forgot about you, Aybike"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "I am sure you didn't! I am sure you didn't forget about me! That's why you came to the party with Leyla! That's why you were holding her hand earlier, right? because you never forgot about me"
Tumblr media
Berk: "That's a different topic"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "What do you mean different? different how? different how? Isn't she your girlfriend?"
Tumblr media
Berk: "No she isn't”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Berk: "She isn't my girlfriend, I swear. She is my friend. But you got jealous because of her and now, thanks to her, I can look you in the eyes, Leyla might be my favorite friend right now "
Tumblr media
Aybike: "You were holding her hand today, Berk."
Tumblr media
Berk: "That was to make you jealous. It was stupid"
Tumblr media
I wish he would've told her the truth here. Now, I have to worry about what’s going to happen when the truth about the bet will be exposed 😭
Berk: "do you not believe me? call Leyla and ask her then, ask her if it was true or not, or wait, I will call her since you don't believe me"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "don't call her! don't call her"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "So there is nothing between you two?"
Tumblr media
Berk: "Nothing! There is nothing, I swear! After I broke up with you, or to be more correct, after you left me, I didn't look at any girl, I stopped smiling, I lost my joy of living, I stopped living, I lost my mind, I lost my mind, can't you see the state I am in? You never saw that?"
Tumblr media
Berk: "I never stopped loving you Aybike! Never!"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "You're such an asshole! You're really an asshole! You made me go through things like heartache"
Tumblr media
Berk: "what do you mean by things?"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "some things that I don't understand and I don't know anything about happened to me. I was really hurt, Berk! I was really hurt "
Tumblr media
Berk: "I am sorry Aybike! I am really sorry!" and then he kissed her head
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay but can we talk about how sad he was because she said she was so hurt after seeing him hold hands with Leyla 😭
Berk: "But you didn't even want me, I didn't think that you would be this sad! I couldn't forget you! Not even for a moment"
This line made me tear up 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Berk: "But you destroyed me! You ended me!"
Tumblr media
Berk: "Look, never leave me again! Please! okay?"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "Okay"
Tumblr media
and then they hugged again. He kissed her head again but this time it looked like he was breathing her in.
Tumblr media
Berk: "I missed you so much Aybike"
Tumblr media
I love how happy she is and how relieved she looks when he’s hugging her 😭
First of all, this scene was so beautifully shot ❤️❤️ Can we talk about the close ups!!!! Because Recep and Melis play emotional scenes so well, I felt like the close ups were the right choice for this scene. Recep really was right when he commented with a fire emoji about this scene because it was 🔥🔥 You know what was missing in this scene? A FREAKING PASSIONATE KISS!!! but okay I won't complain about this from now on, I know we're never getting one.
So, Berk told Aybike that he held Leyla's hand to make her jealous. He didn't tell her about the bet and I don't like this. The truth will definitely be exposed later😭
After that, Berk took her home but Tolga was there lurking around the house and he saw them.
Tumblr media
Berk: "I love you so much, my Aybike"
AHHHHHHHHHH I missed hearing him say "Aybike'm" ❤️❤️❤️
Tumblr media
Aybike: "I love you so much too"
Tumblr media
Berk: "I will see you at school then"
Tumblr media
Aybike: "See you then"
Tumblr media
and then he kissed her.
Tumblr media
Can we please talk about how they didn't want to let go of each other!!!
Tumblr media
and her little wave and his happy/relieved expression ❤️😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Ayber were being happy Tolga was doing his dramatic act in the background.
Tolga: "How? she said confess...She said be a hero"
Tumblr media
Let me explain to you what this dumbass meant here. Earlier that day at school, Tolga told Aybike:”a close friend of mine from school likes a girl but he's not sure about what the girl thinks but if you look closely the two of them could actually be close friends" I am just going to pause here and ask WHAT??? close friends??? him and Aybike?? I have never seen someone so delusional as this guy !!
Tolga continues: "But he's thinking: "What if I confess to her but it doesn’t go well, what should I do?" "
Tumblr media
Aybike: "He should immediately confess! Think of this like ripping a band-aid off of an injury, you can't rip it slowly, you have to rip it quickly. Yes, you might get hurt but you would've taken the band aid off, in the end, you're going to get rid of it. Did you understand what I mean? and whoever thinks about the ending can never be a hero and girls like heroes. He shouldn't hide his feelings; he should confess asap"
Tumblr media
Tolga: "Aybike, this friend of mine is actually..." and Aybike cuts him off saying that she needed to get a map from the faculty room and she left
Tolga: "This close friend of mine is me"
He was really going to confess right there lol. Anyway, he bought flowers and went to her house to confess to her but then he saw her with Berk and he was like:
"How? she said confess...She said be a hero". I am pretty sure the advice she gave was for "his friend". How can he think that she meant “Oh yes you can confess to me, I can't wait" I am just??? I am confused here????  He was so mad and I am pretty sure he was so pissed at Berk because the way he looked at him was so scary.
Tumblr media
Please stay away from him. I feel like he's going to do something to Berk! and this time Tolga will either end up dead or in prison. I feel like his end is near.
Okay but now that Aybike and Berk got back together, what is going to happen to the bet? I don't think Leyla will tell everyone about the bet but now she can't get the money.
They tried so hard to make Tolga look romantic today but all I got is just creepy vibe from him. Him telling her that she didn't put her hair in a bun since a couple of weeks, the collage they made for him and the way he was talking with himself about how he's going to confess to her. Ugh it was so creepy and the happy music made it creepier and look at the cover they made for that scene!!! call the police now!!!!
Tumblr media
There was no teaser which was weird but they put Ayber on the cover of the episode for the first time! We really deserved this win today!
Tumblr media
I hope we’ll only see happy scene for Ayber from now on because those 11 episodes really drained me and I need my happy Ayber back. I wonder how Tolga will feel when he finds out that his sister helped Ayber get back together

Dead man found after a fig tree grows from his stomach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahmet Hergune was missing for over 40 years.
His sister Munur Hergune said “We used to live in a village with a population of 4000, half Greek half Turkish. In 1974 the disturbances began, my brother joined the Turkish resistance organization. On the 10th of June the Greeks took him away.”
The fig tree was first discovered in 2011. It caught a researchers eye given it was a fig tree and fig trees don’t grow in that area. Upon digging and collecting information, the researcher found Ahmet.
Once police arrive they actually found 3 bodies in total. Investigators figured out that Ahmet was taken with 2 others and thrown in a cave. Once they were thrown in the cave dynamite was thrown in killing the 3.
However the dynamite created a hole in the side of the cave wall creating an opening for sunlight to shine through.
Munur stated that her brother was believed to have been the one who had eaten the fig, later investigators discovered that Ahmet had eaten the fig shortly after he died.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66 - Herb Alpert Presents
Originally a classical pianist, Brazilian native Sergio Mendes got interested in and began playing jazz in the late ‘50s. At the time bossa nova, a jazz derivative of samba, was just emerging in Brazil,. He played with Antônio Carlos Jobim, who was also his mentor, as well as for many American musicians who toured Brazil. Mendes first came to he United States while touring with his band Sexteto Bossa Rio in 1961. He had recorded his first record that year, an instrumental album, Dance Moderno. He stayed in the U.S. for a period of time, recording with Cannonball Adderley and Herbie Mann on their 1962 albums. After the 1963 album with Bosso Rio, Mendes moved to the United States the following year. In 1965 he recorded two albums with his group Brasil ’65, plus another pair of albums in 1966, three of them on Atlantic Records and the fourth on Capitol.
Brasil ’66 was the next incarnation of Sergio Mendes-lead vocal groups that began with Brasil ’65. After auditioning for Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, Mendes signed a contract to record with A&M records. His partner, songwriter and Broadway producer, Herb Adler, had made the arrangement for the audition through a friend. He had also sought to get Mendes released from his Atlantic jazz contract, but co-owner Ahmet Ertegun only agreed that Mendes could record with A&M as Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66. Adler thought that there could be more success with the American listening audience with  some songs sung in English along with those sung in Portuguese. Since female vocalists were already part of the concept he suggested they find two bilingual singers for the new group. The result was the big hit with their first album on the label, hitting No.7 on the Top 200 and No.2 on the Top Jazz Albums in Billboard. The two new female vocalists were lead singer Lani Hall and harmonist Bibi Hall who, along with Mendes on keys leading a three-piece rhythm section, formed the group. Despite Adler’s suggestion about songs in English, Mas Que Nada became the albums’ hit single, reaching No.47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No.4 on the Easy Listening chart. Mendes has noted that Mas Que Nada was the first Portuguese language song to become a hit in the U.S., as well as world-wide. Mas Que Nada had been written by, and first released by Ben Jor in 1963. Sergio Mendes’ most popular and recognized version quickly became his own signature song. It was backed on the single by a Bossa Nova inflected English-language song, The Joker. The popular album also included four additional songs in English: The Beatles’ Day Tripper, One Note Samba/Spanish Flea* written by Mendes’ compatriot Antônio Carlos Jobim with English lyrics by Jon Hendricks, Julius Wechter & Cissy Wechter, Slow Hot Wind - written by Henry Mancini and indeed something one can slow down with, and Going Out of My Head. The latter was a hit for Little Anthony & The Imperials while Wes Montgomery had an instrumental hit with it in 1965. Another Jobim-penned tune is Água de Beber, a bossa nova jazz standard, with words in both Portuguese by Vincius de Moraes, and English by Norman Gimbel. Berimbau, a song by Baden Powell with lyrics by Vincius de Moraes, is about the Brazilian single string instrument, a version of the musical bowed instrument originating in Africa. The album is rounded out by two more bossa nova numbers, Tim Dom Dom (Chim Dom Dom), and O Patu (O Pawtoo). Two years after this album Brasil ‘66 had a No. 4 Billboard hit with their version of The Look of Love. The lead singer in the group, Lani Hall, eventually became Herb Alpert's wife. She went on to perform the James Bond film “Never Say Never” theme song in 1983 and, three years later, was awarded her first Grammy for Best Latin Pop Performance of Es Fácil Amar. In 1993 Sergio Mendes won a grammy for his album Brasileiro, and has two Latin Grammy awards as well as nominations for three other Grammys and an Academy Award. He has gone on to create many more records and still does live performances. I have missed opportunities to see him in person, but maybe someday.
It was only natural that, after becoming fascinated with bossa nova songs such as The Girl From Ipanema and Desafinado, I would start off the new year by getting this album. I remember when my boys glee instructor in junior high once asked us to give her suggestions on what type of music we’d like to sing. I suggested bossa nova, but sadly that didn’t go anywhere. The bossa nova music of Brazil was another example of my attraction to music influenced by Latin America, lead by the the Latin influenced jazz on Wes Montgomery Bumpin’ and Tequila albums, and to some extent, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. I am still attracted to bossa nova, and Brasilian music in general. I have been fortunate in that I not only get to hear great Brasilian music, but to sing along with it as well. A Brasilian native, Liza Silva, sings weekly with her band Voz do Brasil. As often as I am able to I head for Club Deluxe in San Francisco CA, to sing along and dance to songs like Mas Que Nada, Berimbau, Água de Beber and Samba de uma Nota Só (One Note Samba). Vivo Brasil!

8 days in Istanbul: Travel Guide
Tumblr media
If you are in Istanbul for the first time, you are probably busy drawing up a travel plan, looking for what you must see, thinking how not to miss anything ... Save time and just use the guide from our  best travel guide who knows everything about the famous Turkish city.
Istanbul is located on two parts of the mainland at once - in Europe and Asia. This is a city of majestic mosques, palaces and cozy streets, where ancient architecture of different eras has been preserved: the Roman Empire, Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire.
How to get from the airport to the city
Tumblr media
The most convenient way to get from the airport to the city center (Sultanahmet district) is the Havaist shuttle . Travel time will be about 1.5 hours. The fare is 18 TL.
Taxi is the best alternative. A ride on it will cost from 100 TL.
Where to stay
Sultanahmet Square: Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia
Tumblr media
The first thing to do after you take a break from your flight is to go to Sultanahmet Square. This is the heart of the city. There are two of the most important cathedrals and symbols of Istanbul: Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque.
The Blue Mosque is active, so to visit it you need to dress appropriately: clothes must completely cover their arms and legs, and girls need a headscarf to cover their hair. Skirts and scarves are offered for tourists at the entrance, but it is better to take care of special clothes in advance.
The mosque closes several times a day for prayer, which everyone can attend.
Address: Sultan Ahmet, Atmeydanı Cd. No: 7, Fatih / İstanbul
Tumblr media
Passing through the park, you will come to the second famous landmark of Istanbul - Hagia Sophia (Hagia Sophia). The cathedral was in the hands of the Byzantines, the Ottomans, and now serves as a museum. There is a paid entrance, the ticket price is 72 TL (children under 8 years old - free).
Address: Sultan Ahmet, Ayasofya Meydanı, Fatih / İstanbul
Near Hagia Sophia there is a non-tourist mosque Sultan Ahmet Türbesi. It is worth going into it to look at the magnificent painting of walls and ceilings.
Basilica Cistern and Theodosius Cistern
Tumblr media
Basilica Cistern is a former underground reservoir, decorated with columns. There is a sculpture of the head of Medusa the Gorgon, and there are bridges over the water. The entire space is beautifully lit with lanterns.
Ticket price: 20 TL
Address: Alemdar, Yerebatan Cd. 1/3, Fatih / İstanbul
There is another cistern in Istanbul - Theodosius Cistern. It is smaller in size, but no less interesting, while much less tourists visit it. The atmosphere is created by quiet music. The entrance is free.
Address: Binbirdirek, Piyer Loti Cd. No: 25, Fatih / İstanbul
Grand bazaar
Tumblr media
The Grand Bazaar is perhaps the most picturesque place in the city. On 50 streets, there are hundreds of shops selling traditional Turkish goods and unpretentious gizmos. Their arsenal includes Turkish carpets, oriental lamps, handmade furniture, jewelry and sweets. Here you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an oriental bazaar and buy souvenirs. Most importantly, do not forget to bargain.
Address: Beyazıt, Kalpakçılar Cd. No: 22, Fatih / İstanbul
Topkapi
Tumblr media
Visit the former palace of the Ottoman sultans, Topkapi The complex includes the premises where the Sultan lived and worked and his harem was located, as well as gardens. Also on its territory are the ruins of the Church of St. Irene, preserved from Byzantine times.
Ticket price: to the museum - 72 TL, to the territory of the harem - 42 TL, and to the Church of St. Irene, the ticket will cost 36 TL. For children under 8 years old, admission is free (except for the premises of the harem).
Bosphorus and the Golden Horn
Tumblr media
To see Istanbul from the outside, take a Bosphorus cruise. From a ship sailing along the shores of the city, you will have a wonderful view of its sights, palaces and fortresses.
We recommend taking a morning or lunch cruise with Bosphorus Cruise . The duration of the trip is about 4 hours, and the ticket price is 30 EUR.
Galata Tower
Tumblr media
The most famous observation deck in Istanbul is the ancient Galata Tower dating back to the XIV century, which can be seen from almost all points of the city. In the past, the tower was used as a prison, and now from its balcony, located at a height of 61 meters, you can view the city and the Bosphorus.
Ticket price: 35 TL
Address: Bereketzade, Galata Kulesi Sk., Beyoğlu / İstanbul
Sultan's Palace Dolmabahce
Tumblr media
In a picturesque place on the shores of the Bosphorus there is the magnificent Dolmabahce Palace. Its walls were home to 6 sultans of the Ottoman Empire. Here you will see sumptuous halls, harem rooms and gardens with a stunning promenade.
Be sure to go around the palace from all sides and admire its architecture from the side of the gate that opens the entrance to the territory from the Bosphorus.
Ticket price: 60 TL for the entrance to the main halls of the palace and 40 TL for the entrance to the territory of the harem.
Address: Vişnezade, Dolmabahçe Cd., Beşiktaş / İstanbul
Yıldız Park
Tumblr media
Not far from Dolmabahce, there is a green city park with ponds, streams and suspension bridges. In summer, flowers grow along the alleys, and under the trees you can hide from the heat. Although the park is quite large and it is not difficult to find a quiet secluded place in it, we still recommend going there on a weekday to feel the atmosphere of tranquility and the spirit of nature.
Address: Yıldız, Beşiktaş / İstanbul
The graceful Ciragan Palace is located near the park on the embankment of the Bosphorus. Now its building belongs to a five-star hotel, but you can look at it from the side and walk along the picturesque embankment.
Asian side of Istanbul
Tumblr media
Istanbul on the Asian side cannot boast of a variety of attractions and historical architecture, but it is worth going here to look at the non-tourist city and feel the rhythm of life and life of local residents.
To see the interesting architecture of this part of the city, head to the light-colored Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, whose ceilings are decorated with pinkish-green Islamic murals and stained glass windows.
Miniaturk
Tumblr media
Outside the center of Istanbul, you can see small copies of Turkish cities and landmarks in Miniaturk Park. Here are detailed mini copies of architectural masterpieces from the times of the Roman Empire, Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire, which in reality are located throughout Turkey.
Ticket price: 15 TL
Address: Örnektepe, İmrahor Cd. 7/1, Beyoğlu / İstanbul
Black Sea
Tumblr media
If you are traveling in summer, do not miss your chance to swim. Istanbul is located near the Black Sea coast. The beaches are sandy and the entrance to the water is shallow. We suggest going to Tırmata Balık and Beach . For 40 TL for an adult and 20 TL for a child on weekdays, you can soak up the sun while lying on the sun loungers. There is a restaurant on site, and a shuttle bus leaves from Hacıosman Metro Station at 10:00 to get to the beach.
By the way, the paid beach is surrounded by many free ones. For example, the nearby Suma beach.
Princes' islands
Tumblr media
The Princes' Islands are a corner of nature and countryside in the Sea of Marmara. There are no cars here, and travelers and locals are transported by public transport in the form of horse carriages. You can also rent a bike here. The archipelago consists of four small islands, the main of which is Buyukada Island with the city of Adalar. After arriving here, go for a walk along its narrow streets, buried in flowers. The town has preserved Victorian houses and wooden structures. Free boats (vapur) can travel between the islands, which depart from the main marinas.
How to get there: There are ferries to the islands from the Eminönü pier in Istanbul. Travel time will be about 1.5 hours. The ferry stops at the berths of all four islands. To get to the main one, get off at the fourth stop. The ticket costs 7 TL.

Video Game Review: Assassin’s Creed Revelations (Ubisoft, 2011)
Tumblr media
Genres: action-adventure, third person, open world
Premise: Ezio Auditore travels to Constantinople to unlock the secret of Altaïr's vault in Masyaf, battling Templars who also want the vault’s contents. In the present day, Desmond Miles is trapped in the Animus and must find a "synch nexus", a key memory that links him with Altaïr and Ezio, to reintegrate his splintered subconscious and awaken from his coma.
Platform Played On: PC (Windows)
Rating: 3/5 stars
***Full review under the cut.***
I am evaluating this game based on four key aspects: story, characters, gameplay, and visuals. I will not be evaluating the multiplayer mode because I don’t like playing video games with other people.
Content Warnings: violence, blood
Story: The main premise of Revelations’ story is that, following the end of Brotherhood, Desmond has fallen into a coma. The stress of being controlled by Juno has splintered his subconscious, so in an effort to save his life, Rebecca Crane and a mysterious figure have placed him back in the Animus. In order to repair his mind and escape, Desmond must “play out” the remainder of Ezio’s memories, so he follows his ancestor as he travels to Masyaf in search of Altaïr's vault, which requires five “keys” to open. These keys have been hidden around Constantinople, and Ezio must race against the Templars during the political conflict between Şehzade Ahmet and Selim I.
Desmond’s plot follows a somewhat natural progression. Though I missed his interactions with the Assassin team, it makes sense that his next big adventure would involve being trapped in the Animus and learning more from Subject 16. I liked that gameplay in Ezio’s world unlocked some puzzles in Desmond’s world (even though he’s trapped in the Animus, he inhabits a little island where he can be himself) and that these puzzles told us more about Desmond’s past. I did not think, however, that Desmond’s past was related in a compelling way. Most of it is told to us through Desmond monologuing as the player completes puzzles that are somewhat reminiscent of Portal. I thought Desmond’s past could have been done better, perhaps by having flashback scenes like how Altair’s past is related.
Ezio’s plot felt like it was lacking, and I think the reason is that the past 3 games have focused on finding and controlling the Apple/Piece of Eden, whereas this game is about opening a vault/library.  Ezio’s story also lacks a strong antagonist to tie things together; instead of battling the Borgias, Ezio is competing with general “Templars,” and even though there are some prominent Templar figures, none of them had “stage presence” like Cesare Borgia did. Though I liked the political backdrop, I think Ezio himself was ill-suited for it. It sort of feels like the creators wanted to extend Ezio’s story rather than start something new with a protagonist who was more connected to the setting, and though recovering Altair’s library is a fun goal, I think the story should have revolved around someone who grew up in the region.
I did like that we got to delve a little deeper into Altair’s past and learn more about him. Unless you play the portable Assassin’s Creed games, you don’t get to learn much about what happened to Altair in ACII and Brotherhood, so it was nice to see some exploration of his life in a game that was centered on uncovering his work.
Tumblr media
Characters: Ezio, our protagonist and player-controlled character, is a little older in this game, and while he’s still likable, he’s much more serious and down-to-business. I’m a bit torn as to whether his demeanor fits the setting of the game - on the one hand, I loved that the European character wasn’t presented as someone who comes to the Middle East and takes charge. Ezio definitely has much to learn, and his skills are seen as having value without being superior. On the other, I do wish the protagonist had been someone who lived in the area - I got the feeling that Ezio was made the protagonist because of his popularity rather than his suitability for the setting, and while I appreciate that Revelations closed out his arc, I don’t really think it was needed.
The major supporting character in this game is Yusuf Tazim, leader of the Turkish Assassin Order. He shows Ezio around and provides much-needed instructions and lore, and he’s incredibly charismatic and personable. Ezio also encounters historical figures such as Manuel Palaiologos and the future Suleiman the Magnificent, which were fun treats for history enthusiasts, but not extremely commanding personalities. Instead of courtesans appearing throughout the city, there are Romani people seen hanging about, and though I liked that they were included and talked about their oppression, I do think their visual design and function during gameplay were somewhat stereotypical.
Ezio furthermore gets a real love interest in this game in the form of Sofia Sartor, an Italian traveler and book collector who helps him locate the keys. I thought the interactions with her were sweet, but she was a kind of damsel in distress and she didn’t have much personality other than liking books for a large part of the game.
Desmond, for his part, doesn’t get a lot to do, despite this game being about reconstructing his psyche and digging into his past. I liked that we learned more about him, but I do wish the stakes of being trapped in the Animus were higher.
Tumblr media
Gameplay: Revelations uses almost all of the same mechanics as Brotherhood. There are armor and weapon upgrades, treasure stashes, upgrades to the city of Constantinople (which stimulates the economy and earns the player more money), etc. Art merchants are replaced with book merchants, so instead of buying paintings, players can purchase codices, but functionally, they were the same. Similarly, instead of freeing areas from Borgia influence, players liberate “Templar dens” and turn them into “Assassin dens,” and while they’re thematically different from the Borgia towers, they’re functionally the same. Players complete assassination missions in which you kill the captain of the guard responsible for overseeing the Templar den, but instead of blowing it up, you trick your enemy by signaling Templar retreat, allowing the Assassins to move in and take over the area. You can also recruit assassins and make use of thieves, mercenaries, and courtesans much the same way as in Brotherhood, though courtesans are replaced by Romani people. There was a moment in Sequence 2 when Ezio had to defend the Assassin safehouse from a Templar attack, and gameplay involved placing barricades, commanders, archers, riflemen, and cannon fire. while balancing morale and damage. I kind of liked the strategy involved and it could have been an interesting mechanic for the rest of the Templar dens/Assassin safehouses, but alas, this moment only occurred the one time unless you’re not paying attention to your infamy meter (which was easy to take care of).
The major weapon upgrade in this game is the introduction of the hook blade and various types of bombs. Bombs ranged from simple noisemakers, to stink bombs, mild explosives, smoke screens, and other useful ranged attacks, while the hook blade enabled faster climbing as well as traveling along zip lines. These weapons were fun, but because so much of the other gameplay was the same as in Brotherhood, they felt like cosmetic patches to an otherwise repetitive gameplay experience.

Visuals: As always, I adored the look of the historical setting. The artists and developers beautifully rendered Constantinople, and I loved seeing more rich colors and details on the buildings and clothing of NPCs than when playing as Altair in the first Assassin’s Creed. I also really loved the look of Ezio’s armor, which forwent the classic white and red palette and opted for a more somber grey. The grey blended with the surroundings a bit better, in my opinion.
What really threw me off was that the facial models for some of the returning characters were altered. Both Ezio’s and Desmond’s face shapes are a little different from how they appear in Brotherhood, and though I do not doubt the change was in service to testing out advancements in graphics, I couldn’t quite shake the uncanny valley vibe.
Animations were up and down; upon starting this game, I encountered a horrible glitch that made the screen flicker and movement impossible, but luckily, I was able to fix it easily using instructions from other players who had the bug. There were some really satisfying combat animations, including finishing moves that upped the level of Ezio’s epic skills, but sometimes they lagged or a bug would make them not connect to an opponent. While not the end of the world, it was noticeable and sometimes took me out of the immersion experience.

Final Verdict: Despite repeating much of the gameplay from Brotherhood and unnecessarily extending Ezio’s story, Revelations presents a beautiful atmosphere and fun adventure to unlock some much-desired background to Altair’s narrative.
