- he's desperate don’t judge him (plz do tho Maka and Tsubaki haven't stopped laughing)

- so he shows up in a leather jumpsuit (roll with it) and proclaims his love for you at the top of DWMA academy

- nobody could hear him. they all just saw what appeared to be a screaming monkey

- look he's cool and all but he’s also a total idiot.

- he assumes you not responding means it’s a no and he gets DEPRESSED

- but then Maka was like “dipshit they couldn’t hear you”

- SO BACK TO SQUARE ONE!

- he shows up at your door with flowers and a card. he knocks on your door, but when he hears you approaching he drops everything and SPRINTS AWAY.

- so you have these flowers and a card with your name on it on your front porch. inside is a letter saying “hey y/n, you’re really cool an if you wanna hang out some time, meet me at the basketball court tomorrow at 11am.”

awe he did it... kinda.

Black Star

- Black Star... hmm... how do I say this. he has his head up his ass.

- wouldn’t know what romantic feelings were even if they smacked him in the head, but they couldn’t smack him in the head, because his head is stuck up his ass.

- Tsubaki is like “why do you keep challenging y/n? they clearly don’t wanna spar with you right now.”

- and BS is just like “no they do.” and that's the end of the conversation.

- Tsubaki realizes that he has a crush on you, but he’s just too dumb to notice, so she literally tells you for him.

- she’s like “yo, y/n. Black Star is kinda in love with you but he’s too stupid to realize it.”

- and you’re like “sweet ok ill go ask him out.”

- SOOO you go to Black Star after class and ask him to dinner.

- bad move. you can kiss your savings goodbye, but you might get to kiss Black Star???

- anyways, he’s like “OF COURSE YOU WOULD WANT TO GO ON A DATE WITH THE STRONG AND INCREDIBLE BLACK STAR! ILL PICK YOU UP!”

- and you’re like “wait you don’t know where I live-” “YES I DOOOOO SEE YOU AT 8″

- not creepy at all Black Star. not creepy at all.

- he’s freaking the fuck out

- so he shows up at your apartment looking like he just survived Hurricane Maria and then went swimming with sharks but didn’t bring any equipment. remember how he dressed for the episode where they celebrate the founding of DWMA? he looks like that, but somehow worse.

- you take him inside, throw him in your room with a towel and tell him to shower since there’s gel EVERYWHERE

- you guys just end up staying inside, playing videogames!

Death the MAN

- sooooo DTK. my favorite character

- i’m not totally sure how he’d handle it

- I dont think he would handle it tbh

- he’s a genius, but he's FUCKING STUPID

- he decides to shove his feelings into the back of his mind because, as he said, “that’s a problem for future Death the Kid, not me.” Same honey, same.

- but then he sees you getting hit on and PULLS OUT HIS PISTOLS AND FUCKING MURDERS-

- nah he just grabs you and walks away

- ur like “uh hello what’s up?”

- he realizes that he messed up your shirt while dragging you outside.

- a-symmetrical. bad. not good. Death the Kid.exe has stopped working

- and ur like “OH SHIT IS HE DEAD”

- so you take him to the nurse because why not.

- and so there you are, sitting in the nurses office, watching your crush practically bleed out. fun!

- and he says your name in his sleep and you automatically crash

- when he wakes up, he sees that you’re asleep in a chair next to him, so being the LOVELY HUMAN BEING (shinigami? both? who’s DTK’s mom? help?) that he is, he picks you up and lays you down next to him, falling asleep holding onto you

- liz and patty are taking pictures. he’ll never hear the end of it from those two.

Eclipse, Chapter 3 (Ethan x MC)

Description: Five years after the birth of their unexpected twins, Ethan and Olivia are expecting their third child. Even if they planned the pregnancy this time around, they learn that not everything goes as planned.

Preview: “We know now that she’ll definitely need heart surgery. She has what’s called an atrioventricular septal defect. She’ll be okay for a couple of months, but then she’ll have symptoms of heart failure. The good news is that the surgery has a very high success rate,” Ethan explained.

Alan nodded softly. “Well, you know that whatever you need, I’m there. I’ll watch Zoey and Jonah anytime you need to be with the baby.”

Previous Chapter

At the end of the month, they left Boston for a trip to Alan’s house.

When Ethan pulled into the driveway, Zoey and Jonah clambered out of the backseat and rushed to the front door. Alan answered moments later and knelt down to hug his grandchildren.

“It’s about time you got here!”

They hugged him tightly. Jonah smiled widely. “What are you making for dinner?”

Alan chuckled. “I’m glad you asked. I’m making spaghetti and I need some taste testers for the sauce. I just don’t know who to ask.”

“We’ll do it!” Zoey volunteered.

“Sounds like I found the right people.” Alan ruffled their hair and stood up. The twins raced each other into the kitchen and Ethan and Olivia followed Alan inside.

“Something smells good,” Olivia noted.

Alan grinned. “It better! It was one of the first recipes Ethan learned how to make. His results back then weren’t nearly as good as they are now, but he learned fast.”

“Too bad that doesn’t apply to pancakes,” Olivia teased.

“Or dessert!” Jonah chimed in.

“He never did learn how to bake, did he?” Alan agreed,

“Nope. He always messes it up,” Zoey added.

Ethan rolled his eyes. “We’ve been here a minute and I’m already the topic of discussion?”

“Always.” Olivia squeezed his arm. A few minutes later, dinner was ready and everyone took a seat at the table.

“Jonah, Zoey, how’s kindergarten?” Alan addressed his grandkids.

Jonah smiled sheepishly, with the hints of pride in his eyes. “I got put in time-out today cause I woke someone up at naptime.”

Alan chuckled. “Has your daddy ever told you about his kindergarten time-outs? He had a few, if I remember correctly.”

“Really?”

“Really,” Alan confirmed. “One time he stole chocolate out of the teacher’s desk drawer. He even had an elaborate plan to get her to leave her desk.”

Olivia snickered, entertained. “That’s painfully adorable. How did he get caught?”

Ethan rolled his eyes, but his lips curled into an amused smile. “I wasted time trying to choose between the Hershey bar and the Snickers. When she turned around, I tried to get back to my seat but she caught me with a candy bar in each hand.”

“Such a shame. You could have gotten away with it.”

Ethan smirked. “Who says I didn’t? For all you know, I spent my time-out eating chocolate every time she turned her back to me. The plan wasn’t a complete failure.”

“Just when I thought the story couldn’t get cuter.” Olivia and the twins laughed out loud and resumed eating.

After dinner, they gathered in the living room. Alan gave the kids a photo album to look through, something they always wanted to do when they visited.

When they found the picture of Ethan as a child, his lips locked with the plush mouth of his teddy bear, Zoey giggled and held it up. “This one’s my favorite!”

Ethan cringed. “You remind me of that every time we’re here.”

Olivia grinned. “It’s a pretty fascinating picture. Little Ethan making out with a stuffed animal is pretty fascinating.”

“CPR.”

“Nuh uh, Daddy.” Zoey shook her head, tucking the picture back into the album. She and her twin continued flipping through the pages, amused with the pictures as if they didn’t look at the album every time they visited Alan’s house.

Jonah found Ethan’s basketball picture from middle school. “Daddy looks like a giant.”

Alan laughed. “He was the tallest kid in his class until his senior year of high school. Then he met someone taller than him and refused to learn the kid’s name.”

“How petty of him.” Olivia giggled. “I’m pretty sure these two are going to be skyscrapers, too.”

Once they’d looked through another album, Jonah and Zoey left the room to play in Ethan’s old bedroom, which now served as a room for them to stay in if they spent the night.

“We had another appointment yesterday to check on the baby,” Olivia announced.

“How did that go?” Alan asked curiously.

They stayed until the kids emerged from the bedroom, both visibly sleepy. Jonah tried to contain a yawn as he leaned against Ethan’s knee.

“Can we spend the night?”

Ethan shook his head and ruffled his son’s hair. “Not on a school night.”

“School is closed tomorrow!” Zoey tried.

“Nice try.”

Olivia stood up. “I think it’s time to start going home.”

The kids sighed but gave in and hugged Alan goodbye before they followed their parents to the car. Despite their insistence that they weren’t tired, they were both sound asleep before they’d made it out of Providence.

XXXXXX

Even though they spent most of their after-school time in the daycare for staff children, Zoey and Jonah knew the halls of Edenbrook just as well, if not better, than the employees.

When they saw Bryce checking his schedule at the front desk, they rushed to the desk. “Uncle Bryce!”

Bryce grinned. “Hey, Double Trouble.”

Jonah pointed at the schedule on the wall. “Are you gonna cut anyone open today?”

“Two. I’m doing a kidney transplant. I cut the first guy open, take out his kidney, and then put it inside his brother.”

Zoey’s eyes widened. “Cool!”

Bryce laughed. “Sure is. What kind of trouble do you two have planned?”

Jonah glanced around to make sure nobody was eavesdropping. “We’re gonna watch TV in the lounge. Don’t tell anybody.”

“Your secret’s safe with me,” Bryce assured them. Satisfied, the kids waved at him before they left, sneaking in the direction of the lounge.

They poked their heads inside to make sure nobody was inside. Then they dashed into the lounge and started perusing the available snack options. Once they’d picked out something to eat, they sat on the plush couch as if they belonged there.

They’d only been in the lounge a few minutes when the door opened and a confused-looking handful of interns stuck their heads in the room. One of them sighed and shook his head.

“Nope. This is the lounge.”

Curious, Jonah stopped clicking through the channels on the television. “What are you looking for?”

“Uh… Dr. Ramsey’s office?”

“Which Dr. Ramsey?”

The intern’s eyes widened. “There’s more than one?”

Zoey hopped off the couch and grinned. “Yup! Our mommy and daddy. But Mommy usually goes by her old last name so people don’t get confused.”

“Uh… this folder says E. Ramsey.”

“That’s Daddy,” Jonah confirmed. He finished his cookie and pointed at the door. “We’ll show you.”

Looking simultaneously grateful and awkward to be accepting directions from five-year-olds, the intern looked back at the little group and nodded. “Thanks? We just transferred from another hospital, so we don’t know where anything is.”

“C’mon.”

Zoey and Jonah led the interns through the halls, knowing the way to the diagnostics office by heart. When they reached it, Zoey pushed the door open. “There!”

Ethan looked up from his charts and arched a brow. “What are you two doing, and why do you have interns following you?”

“We’re helping them!” Jonah explained.

“I mean, why aren’t you-” Ethan stopped, dropping the subject. The twins managed to escape daycare regularly enough that he knew better than to interrogate, so he motioned for the puzzled interns to step inside.

Curious, Zoey and Jonah lingered in the doorway to watch. When they heard a voice behind them, they turned around and smiled. “Naveen!”

Naveen grinned. “I think I need to put you two on the payroll.”

Ethan rolled his eyes. “Don’t encourage them.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure they get where they’re supposed to be.”

“I presume you’ll be taking them on a detour.”

Naveen chuckled. “Would I do that?” With a wink, he ushered the kids out of the office. “I’ll tell you what. I think we need to go check out the new ice cream machine in the cafeteria.”

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DANGANRONPA V3 (and probably the other games, too, just to be safe)

So, just as a heads up, I made this list a few months ago, I think in the middle of chapter 4. I was going to update it, but I realized that any feelings I had were just made stronger and the list was still relatively accurate. Here are my thoughts:

I see no god up here other than me

Kirumi Tojo - As you may know about me, I can typically tell who my favorite characters are going to be before I indulge myself in a series. This has especially rung true throughout Danganronpa, I was able to correctly guess Taka and Gundham as my respective favorites before actually seeing them in action. Let me tell you that Kirumi surprised me. I originally guessed K1-B0 as my favorite and while he’s still up there, he is nowhere near Kirumi. I realized she was my favorite the moment chapter 2 ended. Not only were her execution and plan wonderful and brilliantly done, her last-ditch plea to convince everyone to let her live sold her for me. Not only did this plea make sense, it almost worked and I kinda wish it would’ve. Her motive was almost completely selfless and she worked damn hard to escape. Her execution was the only time I cried during this game because I wanted so badly for her to escape, but I knew that all of her efforts were futile. I know her biggest criticism is that her plan from hiding Ryoma’s body was completely unnecessary, but I like to believe she was just nervous and overthought the whole thing. I mean, this had to go perfectly in order for her to save her country, of course she’s going to add a few too many steps.

Miu Iruma - Okay, I know this is going to sound fake, but I actually really love the dichotomy of her character. The way that she acts so self-righteous but is actually quite self-conscious really stood out to me. Of course she’s funny and hot, too, but I feel it’s important to really appreciate the way her character was written. It amazes me that she was written to be the least likable character in the entire series and still ended up being one of my favorites.

You’re the best

K1-B0 - Yes, I type out his name every time. As I already mentioned, he was my original guess for favorite character, but it obviously didn’t work out that way. He stayed in his position of first for a while, but I always knew it wasn’t meant to last, I just didn’t know which character would take his place. Even besides my doubts, I still love K1-B0, I just wish more could’ve been done with him in the earlier chapters. There are several opportunities for him to be a really funny character and have good interactions with Kokichi and Miu, but he just comes off as annoying. I feel like he only really started to be utilized after Miu died with Monotaro and I really enjoyed their dynamic, I just wish we could’ve had some of this side of K1-B0 before this point.

Kokichi Oma - This spot probably isn’t as subjective as I’d like it to be. Every time Kokichi was on screen, I would get visibly annoyed, but I knew I was in for a treat figuring out his deeper intents behind what he’s saying. The only reason I really like Kokichi at all is because he’s fun to analyze. It gets boring to analyze Nagito because his motivation is pretty much just a mix of “hope” and “he’s crazy.” Kokichi’s character trait of lying makes it so fun to individually analyze each of his lines to figure out whether he’s telling the truth and why or why not. Other than that, I guess he has some funny dialogue with Miu sometimes.

Gonta Gokuhara - I really don’t know. I know this is way too early to be unsure about characters, but I just know I couldn’t put him any lower, but I also couldn’t put him any higher. He’s just such a sweetheart, but that’s about where the substance ends. I adored every time he was on my screen, but everything that would’ve been fun to analyze about him just leads back to Kokichi. I still really enjoy his presence, though. I’d like a big Gonta hug.

Kaede Akamatsu - I’ll just say it, I think she would’ve made for a better protagonist. I’ll talk about this later, but Shuichi’s character development doesn’t really feel like it goes anywhere and the twist doesn’t feel worth it because of that. I think the twist should still have been incorporated, but with the roles reversed. Either way, we got what we got, and what we got was tears from Clair de Lune. But seriously, she really is a great pianist. I’ve been trying to learn the piece for ages and it’s still too complicated for me. I mean, it’s in 9/8 for God’s sake. Good for her, regardless.

Tenko Chabashira - Tenko’s a weird case. I didn’t actually care for her that much until quite literally a few lines before she died. Fun fact: I spoiled this entire series for myself before I ended up playing it and I’m still mad at myself. This meant that I was just waiting for all of the deaths to happen, especially Tenko’s. I was fully aware that every line could be her last during the seance, but I wasn’t aware that she would pull on my heart strings before she went. When she tells Himiko that she’ll do the seance in her place so she can talk to Angie, I literally almost started crying. Before this, Tenko was just kind of annoying, but not too bad, but this moment really solidified her spot for me. She really just wanted to help Himiko and I wish she had chosen a better target for her affections.

Hey, I think you’re pretty cool, I like you a lot

Shuichi Saihara - Time to elaborate on what I said for Kaede. I actually really enjoyed Shuichi’s character development throughout the first three chapters. Before coming to Hope’s Peak, he was afraid to hurt people with his detective skills. Kaede notices this and helps him through it, passing the reins to Kaito once she passes. Shuichi convicts Kaede and later Kirumi, much to everyone’s detriment, but they’re all okay with it (Nobody was really super sad about Korekiyo to begin with, lol). Then, starting in chapter 4, everyone just kinda flips on him. Shuichi + the rest of the gang - Kokichi all believe that Gonta is innocent and Shuichi tries to prove this. Instead of supporting him, everyone (especially Kaito) tries to... stop him??? from proving it??? They’re all just in agreement that it wasn’t Gonta, but don’t want to proceed with the investigation to figure out who it was instead. It’s really frustrating and made my overall experience much less enjoyable. This is bumped up a few notches in chapter 5 with Maki. I understand that she was part of the whole case, but that doesn’t make it any less annoying that she won’t let me prove Kaito was the victim. It just feels like the character development was all for nothing and every student feels like a human obstacle (except K1-B0, of course). Still relatable and emo, though.

Rantaro Amami - I would make the joke everyone expects, but I’m on my laptop and I don’t know how to get to the emoji keyboard.

Ryoma Hoshi - I genuinely don’t have anything to say about Ryoma. He’s my halfway point because I don’t have anything particularly for him and I don’t have anything particularly against him, either. Go off, funky little cat man.

Kaito Momota - He got on my nerves in chapter 4, but he was a genuinely sweet character that I really enjoyed talking to. Any time he would talk about the stars, I would swoon because he’s just such a natural romantic. Not really my type, though. Very average.

Monophanie - Legally you can’t ask me why the monokubs are where they are. She’s voiced by Natalie Hoover (Sonia) and I guess that’s my only reasoning.

Monotaro - I really just liked his interactions with K1-B0 in chapter 4. Other than that, I greatly disliked his and Monophanie’s presence in Gonta’s execution. 0/10 worst use for monokubs.

Monodam - A nice, non-distracting addition to Korekiyo’s execution. But he had so much potential and just threw it all away. Apparently I’m a basketball dad from a high school movie now.

I remember you

Angie Yonaga - Many times, I’ve found myself asking who I ship from the series and this love triangle comes to mind. Of Angie, Himiko, and Tenko... I only really like Tenko. I don’t hate Angie’s cult stuff as much as everyone else seems to, but she didn’t have nearly enough of a presence for me to latch onto outside of the cult stuff, which was funny, I will admit.

Maki Harukawa - I was so excited the whole game for her to get cool. I knew she was going to get cool, I just didn’t know when or how. But then, it was chapter 5 already and she hadn’t gotten cool in my eyes yet. I was really meh on her by that chapter anyway, but her being annoying really knocked her down a few pegs. She got a couple extra points for surprising me during the case, but not enough to bump her up any spots.

Himiko Yumeno - I was rooting for her to be crushed under the rock at the end. She was fine before chapter 3, but then they tried to develop her with the Akane treatment and it didn’t work for me at all. She just got on my nerves during the third trial and continued to contribute nothing throughout the rest of the game. During chapter 5 and 6, it’s like the writers just completely forgot that she was there. This would’ve been fine if they weren’t the last couple of chapters and she was one of about 6 people left alive. She had a role to play and didn’t play it in the slightest. The most she was utilized after chapter 3 was as Miu’s replacement post-chapter 5. Someone needed to fill the dirty jokes quota and I guess Himiko was chosen. #GiveTenkoABetterLoveInterest2021

Monosuke - The only thing I remember him doing throughout the entire game was distract me from Kirumi’s exectuion. Not a fan.

Korekiyo Shinguji - Okay, listen. He’s not that bad. His design is actually one of the best, in my opinion and I love his dedication to his craft. However, he just creeps me out whenever he’s on screen and I’d prefer not to be around him. It’s not even the sister thing, I honestly think that’s funny and a nice change of pace, but his overall demeanor is creepy. Not to mention he’s played by Todd Haberkorn and he’s been in one too many roles recently. Hopefully I’ll get over it, but as for now, that loses him points.

Tsumugi Shirogane - I know, not exactly an unpopular opinion. She’s just annoying and downright pisses me off a lot of the time with her “plain” shtick. I already knew she was going to be the mastermind, so most of the game was just me waiting for her to reveal it. I swear, I almost couldn’t take it every time she said something like, “What if there isn’t a mastermind?” “What?? There’s a mastermind????” Just stfu Tsumugi. You all are lucky I don’t have the energy to talk about 3-6 right now.

Monokid - Hate the tongue sprite, that’s literally the only reason he’s down here. He’s also kind of annoying, but made the best addition to an execution out of all of the monokubs. His death was one of the few things that surprised me in this game and it was a welcome twist. I was sick of him by this point, but was still incredibly shocked when he was pushed into the execution. Then, his severed head rolls out to all of the students looking on in shock at Kaede’s death. Masterful. Still hate the tongue sprite.

There we go. Definitely my least favorite cast out of the whole series, but it’s still fun to love on and hate on a lot of the characters, as per usual. There are just a few too many in the middle tier (metaphorically speaking) that are either uninteresting or just don’t get their time to shine. Maybe they’ll eventually grow on me more, but I doubt it.

synopsis:

Fletcher Kaplan's life isn't perfect, but until the final semester of high school, at least it's normal. He works hard for his grades, has a boyfriend who loves him and a great relationship with his single father. But when he wakes up exactly eighteen years after their move from Pakistan to the United States with the echoes of a nightmare ringing in his ears, he starts to question his reality. He wonders if the story he's been told about his mother's death is all true, but more pressing is the fact that Fletcher starts to see things, think things, and he's too afraid to tell Ellison for fear of scaring him away. When the eccentric and intimidating Corinne approaches him and validates what he's been experiencing, Fletcher decides to put his trust in her. Despite the fact that he's a complete idiot, Ellison is still the perfect son, a standard Astrid feels she can't live up to. So she'll let Ellison be the favorite and follow her own path, piercing her ears with safety pins and cutting her hair in the mirror, dressing in all black some days and in pink the next. There's nothing Astrid values more than bodily autonomy and a girl's right to make her own choices. This is what draws her to Corinne like a moth to a crimson flame; she helps Astrid see her potential, and it becomes clear that Astrid has a bigger role to play in their lives than she could have imagined.

You bought them back to camp, but after that everything changed and you were still trying to figure out if that was a good thing or not.

Chapter 32- EPILOGUE

*3 Years Later*

"Now, I know it might sound stupid, but how you stand while firing a gun is really important." You began to explain looking around at the small group you had gathered around your stall at the monthly trade market.

Rick and Ezekiel’s plan to keep the communities together and helping each other had worked. Three years later, the communities were still meeting monthly during the markets to trade homemade and homegrown items with the other communities.

The markets usually lasted a couple of days, most of the people from other communities packed tents to stay the night if they weren't in a rush to get back.

This month it was being held at Alexandria and you had your own stall out the back of the community where you taught basic firearms training.

There were a few stalls set up that weren't for trading items but were for offering free lessons about certain things. Like Earl from Hilltop who had a blacksmithing stall. Along with Siddiq and Enid who worked together on the infirmary stall, teaching anyone who wanted to learn about basic first aid.

The markets were a great idea, everyone enjoyed the monthly gathering and although you could talk to any of the communities whenever you wanted, thanks to Eugene. He somehow set up communication through old style radios, it was good to stay close and keep in contact with everyone.

Rick had approached you a few weeks after you killed Negan and asked if you wanted to have your own stall for teaching firearms. It was a shock when he asked you because the two of you hadn't really been talking much after the whole Negan thing.

You knew Rick hated what you did, but he also understood why you did it and it took him a while to accept it. But, the two of you had been through thick and thin, both before and after the world died and you could never stay mad at each other.

"Think of it as the foundation of everything. If you have a wobbly base, chances are it doesn't take much to mess up whatever is on top and loud explosions and recoil have a way of messing stuff up, trust me." You continued to explain as you picked up the Desert Eagle from your portable table, double checking that the chamber was empty before you held it up to demonstrate.

"The main thing is to have a stable and comfortable stance, if you have that then you'll be fine. Now, I think you are all sick of hearing my voice so let's hear some gunshots instead. You all know how to hold, aim, and reload a handgun, so everyone come over here and stand on these red dots." You instructed pointing to the red circles you had drawn on the ground behind you. All the dots had small tables in front of them with an unloaded handgun and a magazine sitting on top and in front of each desk was a target set up 10 metres away.

You rested your hand over your rapidly growing baby bump underneath your military jacket.

You and Daryl were expecting your second child in a couple of months and if you were being honest, Daryl seemed to be more excited than you. You were definitely excited, but Daryl never got to be there for Sophia's first few years. He never got to be around you when your stomach was the size of a basketball and he never got to help deliver the baby.

He never even got hold his baby daughter until she 5-years-old and you couldn't wait to see Daryl with a baby. He was a great father to Sophia and you knew he was going to be a great father to your next child.

You watched as Henry, Eugene and a few other teenagers and young adults from other communities all walked over to the desks and stood in front of them, while Carol, Rosita and Rick watched on from a distance.

"Alright when you're ready, pick up the handgun and magazine in front of you and load the weapon like I showed you earlier and fire at your target." You instructed, glancing around the area making sure nobody had wandered into the firing range. But, you had the targets set up against the far wall of Alexandria for that exact reason. You also made sure each gun had a silencer, so you didn't frighten the others around the community or draw in walkers.

You slowly walked around behind the line of people, watching them carefully to make sure they were doing everything correctly and safely before they began to fire at the targets.

You knew most of them had fired a gun before, most people had in this new world, but none of them had ever been taught how to do it properly. Most of them had come to your other lessons over the past few months and were starting to get really good.

As you walked passed everyone you gave them a few tips and encouraging words, honestly shocked with how much they had all progressed since the first lesson they attended.

"That's it Henry! Soon you'll be a better shot then your mother." You commented with a wink causing the teenager to grin brightly as he hit the target.

"Remember to squeeze the trigger slowly, don't yank it because that'll jerk your gun and send the shot off. Just squeeze the trigger gently and let the shot surprise you." You instructed, unable to stop yourself from smiling as you watched the group all hit their targets.

Once everyone finished off their magazines you talked to them all for a few more minutes and gave them constructive feed back. But, mainly you just said how impressed you were and announced that next month if they were interested, you might move onto shotguns which seemed to get them all excited.

"You're really good at this." Rick said while you began packing away the handguns after they left.

You turned around to find your brother walking over to you, young Rj in his arms babbling away causing you to smile.

"You're a good teacher, these guys really enjoy your lessons and it looks like it's paying off too." He added, glancing over your shoulder towards the targets set up.

"They're good students. Thank you for asking me to do this, I'm glad my military skills are coming in handy for something good." You replied, looking down at Rj as you kissed his forehead with a smile.

"Couldn't think of anyone more qualified for the job, Shane would be proud." Rick said, wrapping his free arm over your shoulder as he kissed the side of your head. "Michonne needed to talk to you about something, she's with the kids at the playground. I'll finish packing up everything here."

"Alright." You replied as you began to walk in the direction of the playground before you stopped and turned around. "Hey, bro?"

"Yeah?" Rick replied, looking over his shoulder towards you.

"Thank you. For everything." You said and Rick smiled with a nod before you continued walking across the community to the small playground.

You and Rosita had made and set up the playground a couple years ago. It wasn't much, just a few old swing sets and slides you had found and done up, but the kids loved it.

You could see Michonne sitting on the small bench beside the playground watching Judith, Sophia, Gracie and Hershel playing.

Aaron and Jesus were also sitting on the bench beside her, Jesus with his arm draped over Aaron's shoulder causing you to smile at the two of them. They made a really cute couple and Gracie absolutely adored Jesus. Although, you missed not seeing Aaron and Gracie around all time since they moved to Hilltop last year to live with Jesus, but the three of them have never been so happy.

"Hey, thank you guys for watching Sophia, she hasn't been causing too much trouble I hope?" You said, walking over to the three of them on the bench catching their attention as they all turned around towards you.

Jesus immediately stood up from the bench and offered you a seat, which you gladly took because your back was killing you from standing up for so long.

"Of course not, she's mainly been swinging Gracie on the swing." Aaron replied causing you to smile as you glanced over at the playground to find her and Judith now trying to climb up the slide instead of going down it. "Where's Daryl?"

"Last I heard he was going to talk to Earl about making more metal broadheads for his crossbow bolts or something." You answered with a shrug.

"Do you guys mind if I talk to Y/N for a minute?" Michonne asked a few seconds later and the two of them nodded as Aaron stood up from the bench.

"We'll be over by the kids if you need us." Jesus replied taking Aarons hand as the two of them walked over to the playground and began mucking around with the kids.

"Everything alright?" You asked, glancing over at Michonne as you leant back on the bench, resting your hand over your stomach that used to be hidden by your thick military jacket, but not anymore.

"Yeah, I don't think I ever thanked you for what you did that day we first met. How you tried distracting Jocelyn while we were tied up, even though you got shot and branded twice. And for what you did after with her kids. I don't think I would have been able to do what you did, so thank you." Michonne said, and looked over at her as she smiled sadly at you, but you shook your head.

"Nah, you would have been able to do it. You're strong, Michonne, there's nothing you wouldn't do for your family. It's why my brother loves you." You answered honestly, resting your hand over her knee for comfort.

You knew back then that she would have done it, but you didn't want her to have to deal with the burden of it. You didn't want that blood on her hands. You had killed more people that you could count both before and after the world changed, but you had never killed a child until then and you still got nightmares from it.

It didn't make it easy and you thought about it every single day, but it's not about being easy. It's about being able to get the job done so nobody you cared about got hurt. As much as you hated doing it, you would do it again in a heartbeat to save Sophia because you would anything for your family.

"Still, thank you for doing it. I'm really glad you found us. I haven't seen Rick or Daryl this happy in a long time." Michonne admitted.

"You and me both."

"Hey, sunshine." Daryl's voice called out from behind you.

You didn't even have a chance to turn around before he wrapped his arms around your shoulders from behind as he rested chin on top of your head.

"Daddy look!" Sophia called out, waving at Daryl where she was currently sitting on top of Jesus' shoulders causing the three of you to chuckle.

"Be careful, sweetheart. I'm going to borrow your mother for a few minutes. Can you guys keep an eye on Sophia?" Daryl asked, looking over at Jesus and Aaron who seemed to be too focused on the kids to hear him.

"It's alright, I'll watch the kids and the two giants kids currently giving them piggybacks." Michonne chuckled causing Daryl to snort before he walked around to the front of the bench and held his hand out towards you to help you up.

"Thanks, Michonne." You replied once you stood up. Although, you had no idea where Daryl was planning on taking you as he laced your hands together and began leading you down the street.

"What are we doing?" You asked, glancing over at him and you could see a hint of a smile playing across your boyfriends lips. He was up to something and you had no idea what it was.

"C'mon." He muttered, motioning towards the infirmary causing you to frown. Why was he taking you to the infirmary? No one is sick or hurt are they?

"Daryl-" You began to say before he cut you off, reaching for the door handle.

"Trust me."

You simply nodded, trusting him no matter what, but you still had no idea what he was planning.

He opened the door, letting you walk in first to find Siddiq and Enid setting up some kind of machine across the room by the hospital bed. Now you were even more confused.

"Hey, ya ready?" Daryl asked catching their attention as the two of them turned around and nodded.

"Y/N, come lay down." Siddiq said motioning towards the hospital bed beside him causing you to frown in confusion. Okay, what the hell was going on?

"Daryl wanted to surprise you and asked me to bring Hilltops ultrasound machine over, so you guys could see your baby." Enid explained and your jaw dropped in shock as you looked over at Daryl who just nodded and walked over to the bed with you.

You didn't even know they had an ultrasound machine, Siddiq had a few other machines that he used to make sure your baby was healthy. But, you never even thought about an ultrasound machine to actually see your unborn baby. Holy shit.

You laid down, unzipping your military jacket and lifted your tank top like Siddiq said, exposing your swollen stomach.

Enid began to place clear gel over your lower stomach before Siddiq gently moving the probe of the ultrasound machine over it.

Daryl sat down on the chair beside you, his hand holding yours as you both stared at the small display above the machine. Enid stood beside Siddiq watching the screen in excitement before the baby appeared.

"The baby looks to be healthy and has a strong heartbeat. Do you want to know the gender?" Siddiq asked while Enid began printing the ultrasound photo for you.

You glanced over at Daryl with a questioning look because you honestly hadn't even thought about that. You just figured you'd find out the gender when the baby was born.

"I'd like to know, only if ya wanna though." Daryl replied and you quickly nodded in agreement as you looked back towards Siddiq who smiled at the two of you.

"It's a boy." Siddiq announced . "We'll give you two some privacy." He added as Enid handed you the small photo before they both left the room.

You couldn't stop the tears from swelling in your eyes as you looked down at the photo in your hand.

"We're having a baby boy." You whispered and Daryl squeezed your hand gently as you turned back towards him to find his own eyes laced with tears as well.

"I love you so much, Y/N." Daryl said, leaning forward as he placed a gentle kiss to your lips and you kissed him back.

You handed him the small photo, giving him time to look at it while you grabbed a tissue and began wiping the gel off your stomach.

"Well, now that we know it's a boy. Got any names in mind? I named Sophia, I think it's only fair if you get to name our son." You declared with a grin causing Daryl to chuckle softly as he wiped his teary eyes and looked back towards you.

"Was thinkin' if it's a boy we could name him after Shane, if ya want?" He suggested and the tears you were trying so hard to keep began to trickle down your cheeks.

"Shane and Sophia Dixon? I like the sound of that." You replied causing Daryl's lips to twitch up in a smile as he rested his hand over your baby bump.

"Can't wait to meet ya, little man." He whispered, kissing your stomach as you ran your fingers through his hair. You couldn't stop yourself from smiling as silent tears trickled down your cheeks. This was your life now.

10 years ago you were chained up in a Taliban basement, being tortured for information.

A few months later, you woke up in a hospital bed with enough PTSD to last a lifetime, wishing you had been killed in that basement.

Nine years ago, you thought your brother had died in a coma. Then the dead started to rise and you thought you were all going to die.

Eight years ago, you thought you were never going to see your family again when the farm fell.

Six years ago, you had to watch Shane get his head bashed in after trying to protect you and Sophia.

Then, three years ago, you found Rick. You found Daryl. You found your family again and got justice for Shane.

10 years ago, you would have never thought your life would turn out like this. After everything you had been through, both before and after, you never thought you'd get a 'happy ending', never thought you'd see the light at the end of the tunnel. But, now you were proven wrong.

You finally reached that light and have your happy ending. Everything you had been through had bought you to this moment, it had bought you to where you are right now and you wouldn't change it for the world.

However, this needs to be performed for the athletes to be optimally prepared for the rigors of their aggressive stage. The endurance, strength, speed and ability volumes have to be carried out. Not merely the quantity of work, however just how much quality is set to the preparation phase is essential also. My time in county jail

I’ve already touched on the subject but I would like to fill in some of the details of what goes on in county jail. Your United States government is running the show and they are doing a terrible job! Then again, wouldn’t you want the criminals to be punished n tortured? I’m going to write about my personal experience that lasted about 6 months in the year of our lord 2015.

There is no rolling snake eyes to get yourself outta jail in reality! I was booked in mid April 2015 n this is how it all went down. First off, there was the arrest. The cop came at me n said to freeze n put my hands up. In my diluted mind, I thought I had just won everything. What you may not understand about me is I’ve had some mental illness problems ever since about 2009. I was diagnosed Bi-Polar n have been on n off medicine ever since. Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics. In fact, while I was serving my time in the Martinez detention facility that year; a mentally ill inmate was murdered by prison guards in Santa Rita over by Dublin, California. The news made a huge deal of it n the guards were prosecuted. You must understand, there are some serious problems being sick-in-the-head. Personally, I blame society for a lot of what goes into my mind but I’m a lot better now. My story did not make the news n I was just another anonymous inmate trying to make it out alive.

After about an hour of awkwardly sitting in the squad car at the scene of the crime; the cop took me to the Discovery Bay sheriffs office where I sat on the floor for awhile while handcuffed. It was then determined I was to be booked in Martinez so I was escorted back to the vehicle n we made the 45 minute drive. (This uncomfortableness while sitting in the squad car turned out to be nothing compared to what I would eventually witness to which you will read later in the story).

Now we’re starting to get to the good part, booking. First off was a mug shot. In Martinez, you would never guess what they have right next to the camera which you’re looking at! That’s right, a unicorn n a rainbow! Then I was forced into a small crowded room with about 50 perps. There were chairs, a bathroom that had been destroyed, n a television. You would never believe what was on the television that day! Bible stories n then the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. I believe this was no accident here. The cops are the fishermen n the perps are the crabs. It played all night long before my name was eventually called. I was stripped naked n even had to open up my asshole for these guys. I hate to say it but they weren’t very nice at all n this is where Alice started tripping down the rabbit hole!

I was then stationed into another room with other individuals n bussed to Richmond, California. Yes I had chains around my arms, waist, n feet. If I remember correctly, I was even chained to another person! Now walking into the Richmond facility kind-of reminded me of a zen garden. The landscaping was nice n I was carrying a bag of clothing n underwear. After that, I was assigned a room with some old white dude as my roommate. I actually thought Richmond was much nicer than Martinez. There were televisions surrounded by sofas, basketball courts, n individual showers. I was only there for a day. One of the deputies told me I was gonna be given a BART ticket home. Please don’t lie to the mentally ill when they’re in jail. It’ll just make matters worse!

The next day I was bussed back to Martinez n shared a cell with a black guy who had just been released from a mental hospital. Oh, here’s something for you gang bangers make sure you’ve got cash on your person for commissary. I only had $3 cash in my wallet which was enough for a pencil, some paper, stamp n envelope. Some days they wouldn’t even let you out of the cell. Other days you were given about 30 minutes to breath in an outside courtyard. Yeah, I talked to some of the other guys that were in there. Most were thieves. Nobody really gave me any problems. Back to my mental illness though, the television was showing riots in Baltimore n I had concluded the world was finally coming to an end! I also thought to myself, fucking awesome, I’m locked in a cell n they are just gonna leave me here with no food or anything. At this point in time, I decided it was time to escape! When the nurse n the jailer opened my cell door to give me pills I leaped out n ran downstairs to call my mother n tell her I was escaping! I was tased to the floor n put into solitary confinement with cuffs around my ankles. They hurt.

And so began my downward spiral that would put me into the Atascadero State Hospital. They gave me a formal write-up for trying to escape n a cell to myself. One thing that was nice about the Department of Corrections was the fact they had some books for us to read. I found solace in the Jack Reacher books that were available. Unfortunately, the food was so bad I was throwing it on the walls n in my 6 months of confinement I lost about 50 pounds. In Martinez, the same weekly menu is brought to your cell day after day. Breakfast consisted of a milk carton, orange slices, n shitty ass coffee cake along with something else like a bowl of runny oatmeal or microwaved pancakes. Lunch was made in house. I hope you enjoy cardboard pizza! Dinner was the worst though, TV dinners from hell!

What I found to be the worst part of county jail was the simple fact nobody could give you any answers. This is one of the reasons why I tried to commit suicide. I do remember somebody sticking something down my throat to make me vomit. Then I was rushed by an ambulance to a hospital where I was chained to a bed. A catheter was shoved up my dick n they determined I would survive so they caddied me back to the jail into a room with no toilet or running water for 2 days. When they finally opened the door, I dove out n they charged me with felony assault! My fingerprints were taken for the second time n then I was put into D-Row (for the worst offenders).

I distinctly remember the room. It had drawings all over it in red. I initially thought it was made from blood. Hell, maybe it was! I was given no blankets or extra clothing for the first 2 days. Oh, and these jailers were particular assholes. They slammed a door that would’ve definitely hit me if I didn’t move n also twisted my arms while they cuffed me. The only nice thing that came out of this was a particularly strong anti psychotic that completely grounded me. It is called zyprexa. All the hallucinations that had been plaguing my mind, vanished. Unfortunately, the damage had been done n now I waited in a cell crossing off every day; week-by-week.

Fortunately, my family stepped in n hired an attorney. They all thought that I didn’t belong in jail. They thought I belonged in a mental institution! Some motions were made in the court n after about 4 months of hell in Martinez I was shipped to Atascadero State Hospital. Remember when I said the squad car was uncomfortable? Imagine being stuffed in the trunk of a van with body cuffs n no window for 3 hours! When I got out the driver told me I would be charged for trying to escape the cuffs! No joke, what is it with these people?

I am actually grateful for my time at Atascadero. It was full of mental health experts n the food was much better but I could tell some folk had been there a little too long. In a typical day, they would wake you up around 7 in the morning, give you meds, let you watch the morning news, n escort you to the cafeteria for breakfast. There was even coffee! Lunch was served in a brown bag n there was also some type of activity. Atascadero had basketball courts, jungle gym, a track, n large barbed wire fences with guard outposts where they probably had rifles. Dinner was around 6, we could watch some more television n then we were fed our nightly medication.

After about 2 months of this, I completed the-tasks at-hand n was sent back to Martinez. I had to memorize the court room setting n also the charges against me. Then my parents posted the bail n I was set free. Over 4 years later n I am still free but not without conditions. The arson charge was supposed to come off my record after 2 years. I had to serve 3 years probation. It is all a giant nightmare but I am doing my best n thought it would be smart to write this down.

This is one of my favorite times of year… March Madness!

My son and I love to make our brackets, watch the games, and root for my team vs. his!

That said, I started to think.

I know that sleep can be a BIG factor for both team and individual performance, and I have seen a few research studies looking at the football season, and selected games (Monday Night Football), but this is March Madness we are talking about!

There was a great article from the University of Michigan Newsletter about a sleep specialist there, who really looked at all aspects:

First of all, she correctly identifies circadian rhythms as a key factor. I have written quite a bit about circadian rhythms over the years. She also correctly identified that there are times in a 24-hour cycle where performance can be enhanced or decline.

It’s cool to see this hit the mainstream since that’s what my Power of When book is all about.

Looking at some of the basics, research shows that a peak time for athletic performance is generally in the late afternoon or early evening. So, if your team is playing at this time (either on their internal clock or the external one), they might have an advantage.

But remember that the player’s Chronotypes could also be an important factor.

Unfortunately, this is not something we would know. But I would guess that you need a certain level of determination, sacrifice, and being health conscious, to be a Division 1 Athlete which would leave a majority of Wolves out. It would, however, probably include Lions and Bears. Which is terrible for basketball, since it’s played in the early evenings (depending upon what round you are watching). I think Dolphins would not make it to this level (generally speaking), because their anxiety might get the best of them. There is also a complicating factor, since many of these kids are eighteen and still growing into their Chronotype, they may still be a Wolf.

This is starting to hurt my brain!

Now don’t forget there is a ton of travel that goes on here, so we also need to remember that there could be circadian misalignment, (i.e., jet lag). Remember that it takes about a day to adjust to each time zone. So, jet lag may be a factor for the first day the team arrives, but if the team has been practicing in the new destination for more than 2 days, it’s unlikely it is a big factor, if at all.

So, what is a team supposed to do, if they are playing at a time when their body clock thinks its midnight?

Push the clock forward with light therapy, and a delayed practice (light and exercise have been shown to push your circadian rhythms). And extend sleep. At the elite level, these players are commonly going to need 9-10 hours before a game.

So, should you change your picks for this year’s March Madness, based on jet lag, chronotype, and circadian silliness? Nope, go for your favorite, there is always a crazy upset, and have some fun.

Hold on. But what if you don’t like to watch team sports as much as you like to play them?

The direct physical benefits can be significant as well, in terms of fitness and health.

The big rule for team athletics is: Play at dusk. Late day is the best time for all chronotypes to gather for some sporting fun.

The competitiveness rhythm

Chronotypes display significant differences in their attitudes toward team sports and their levels of competitiveness.

Goal-oriented Lions are the most competitive players, and the most driven to organize and play in team competitions. Lions like team sports, and they usually show an aggressive style of play. Nighttime events can be a challenge for Lions—they’ll need a boost from some late-afternoon sun exposure, and a high-protein snack to keep them from dragging in the evening.

Dolphins, independent types, don’t take naturally to team sports. Their restless sleep often leaves them too tired and without sufficient motivation and energy to engage.

Bears are good team members. They bring enthusiasm to these games, if not the cutthroat drive that Lions do. Their peak times for play are midday and early evening.

Wolves don’t flock to team sports. These night types are less physically active overall than other chronotypes. When they do get active, they’re more likely to prefer a solo sport, such as running. If a Wolf has agreed to join a team, he or she will prefer to play at night.

The coordination rhythm

This rhythm combines several factors: how long you’ve been awake and how tired you are, along with the difficulty of the sport you’re playing. During times that you’re alert and rested, coordination will be greater than when you’re fatigued, or still waking from sleep. Hand-eye coordination peaks at different times, depending on chronotype:

Bears see theirs peak between 5-8 p.m.

Lions, hand-eye coordination is strongest between 3-6 p.m., while

Wolves see their hand-eye coordination peak between 6-9 p.m.

The power rhythm

Your athletic power—including your strength, speed, and agility—fluctuate along with bio-rhythmic changes to body temperature. When body temperature is higher, lungs increase in their capacity and more blood flows to the muscles. You’re more flexible, with quicker reflexes. For most chronotypes, the power rhythm peaks during late-afternoon or early evening. This power peak occurs toward the earlier side for Lions, and the later end for Wolves.

Have you ever noticed that most professional sports games take place in the evening? This is not only prime TV-watching time. It’s also the time when most athletes are at the top of their power rhythm, hitting peak athletic performance.

The sportsmanship rhythm

Nobody wants to be the person who screams at the ref or pulls an underhanded move on an opponent. (Nobody wants to play with that person, either). The sportsmanship rhythm is all about mood. Better moods equal greater sportsmanship, and more fun for everyone. For all chronotypes, mood is at its best in the afternoon and early evening.

The best time to hit the field with your team:

Dolphins: 5-7 p.m.

Lions: 2-4 p.m.

Bears: 6-8 p.m.

Wolves: 6-9 p.m.

Okay. So I’m right now writing this while on our flight back from Rhode Island, currently on plane 1 from providence RI to DC where we’ll transfer to our second flight home to Chicago (and work 9 am tomorrow- yay 😑) but I’ve been sidetracked and tired so I’m overdue for some day posts for you guys, so consider this my weekend post for Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Probably doing paragraphs so it’ll post on tumblr mobile without fighting me too much.

Hopefully I remember enough details about Friday lol but I guess we’ll find out now. So I woke up at 7 like every morning and got ready for work. I was a little anxious about court based on what’s been going on but things were for the most part ok (I just had to remind one of the lawyers the reason I hadn’t looked over the folders were because they were in her possession, lol). Came back from work and got to work on my projects, it was the last day for the lawyer that lives right by me and is going to another firm so they ordered us lunch from that one Mexican place that’s like the fucking best and we all just talked about how much we loved their food the whole time lol so that was good. I did my normal crappy work until 3 at which point I was peacing out early to make sure we got to the airport in time for our flight. So I ubered home from there, changed and grabbed my bags, then ubered to pick up Jess and then head to the airport. We ended up getting to the gate with plenty of time to spare (because we had planned ahead accordingly) so we got food from this sit down Italian place which was perfect because I got to use it to spam my small group group chat with pictures of italian food because I’m rallying for us to go to an actual italian place sometime soon lol. The food sadly wasn’t quite as good as expected but was still fine.

Finished up there and headed back to the gate, not long after boarded the plane and took off. I always do the sudoku puzzle in the back of the inflight magazine while on a flight and after looking over my shoulder trying to point out places where 4’s would go Jess just got out her own magazine and tried to do it and subsequently got very frustrated that it wasn’t as easy as it looked, lol. So I did the two puzzles they had, then went back to reading the fanfic I had on my phone. The flight at that point ended up getting fairly turbulent which was somewhat anxiety inducing for some of us but of course we landed safe and sound. We got off the plane and figured out how the airport did it’s ride service before taking a Lyft (the pick up places for lyft and Uber were apparently different and we were in the lyft pick up place) back to our Airbnb, which upon getting to the street the driver was like “well I can’t see any of the numbers on the houses” and proceeded to just drop us off in the middle of the street. Well then. Remember it’s like 12:30 am lol. But we figured out which house was the right one then I had to pull out the guide for checking in which was getting the keys from the lock box and then getting into the place, which we eventually figured out lol and got to our room, at which point we basically just dropped our stuff and went to bed because we were mad tired lol.

The con opened at 10 and I wanted to shower (since I hadn’t the night before) in the morning so Jess set an alarm for 8:45. Got up when it went off and I just like, had a chill for some reason that was annoyingly with me like the whole day but was very apparent while I was trying to shower and get ready. But we managed, finished all that good stuff (I was doing Catwoman because it was easy and comfortable) and ubered to the con place which was thankfully very close by (we do this thing where Jess is like “did you get the Airbnb close to the airport or close to the convention?” and I’m like “?? Isn’t guess we’ll see maybe neither!!” Lol because it’s usually somewhat of a compromise between the two but this one ended up being nice and close to the place) where we joined a giant outdoor line to get in which of course was just not moving and then when it started went rather slowly. It wasn’t laid out all that well so we had to find out way around a bit at first.

Couldn’t find any coffee, which was kinda ridiculous because the place was called the Dunkin’ Donuts center (we did eventually find one Dunkin’ Donuts in the building, so Jess and I had to just buy cokes and drink them for caffeine lol. So we grabbed those and some sort of breakfasty food item before hitting up the show floor. Basically the show floor was its own thing attached to the photo op area, then there was a room with the like. B-List” celebrities (which was still some like, fairly major people, they just had a LOT of guests) then over like a connected portion of it where they actually play the sports ball (I think they did basketball and hockey, we concluded) was the major celebrities. So we went through the show floor and checked things out, then went to the smaller celeb room, where Katrina Law was, and we were planning on meeting her on Sunday for photos and such but she didn’t have a line at the moment (the set up of that particular room was REALLY bad) so we went and said hi to her for a bit, then eventually checked out the big celebrities which took a while for us to figure out how to actually get to where they were. So the people I actually cared about in this room were Kiefer Sutherland and Tom Felton, both of which has gigantic lines when we got there. I had a photo op with Kiefer later and was planning on hitting up his line after for an autograph. But nobody in that room was doing selfies (officially at least) and of course Tom’s autograph was a lot of money so I moved to kinda being meh on whether I actually ended up meeting him or not.

At this point I think we returned to the show floor where we hung out for a bit before getting up to try to wait for our photo op but there was a bit of a crowd in the area of people waiting to go back that they eventually just made disperse entirely so we kinda hung out around that area until we were called. I was going for Kiefer and Jess was getting a photo with Hayden Christensen, of Star Wars fame of course, which both happened to be around the same time. So once we got back there my line moved pretty quickly, Jess ended up being stuck there a little longer though. But yeah, it was the same photo people from last week’s con so we’re used to their deal, came in and fangirled to myself a little that he was RIGHT THERE and then of course inched closer as people got through, when it came to it he shook my hand and I said my name, took the photo just kinda generic nice pose, then as I was leaving I was like “I’ll be back for an autograph later!” to which he just kinda laughed and said okay.

We were planning on going to a panel that started not long afterwards featuring Katrina Law, Emma Dumont, and Elizabeth Henstridge (from Shield, who was new to me) and needed to get lunch at some point so I grabbed some food and we ate it as we made our way to the line to get in the panel. Ended up getting pretty good seats. The panel was great, they were all hilarious and totally upfront about everything. Jess asked the whole “what emojis would you use to describe your character and yourselves” and I was typing furiously the whole time in order to be able to tweet all the right emojis correctly for them lol. It was great because Emma asked Jess if she was cosplaying Jessica Jones which was what had been happening all day because she was wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, and black boots, but was not actually trying to cosplay her and was planning on another outfit she ended up forgetting an aspect of, but she said yes anyway, then later on in the panel Emma was like “I’m always just wearing my clothes and people are like ‘are you cosplaying Jessica Jones?’ and I just say yes even though I’m not” at which point we all laughed very hard because that’s literally what just happened. The rest of the panel was fun, Katrina Law had some very funny moments about reading in the Arrow script where out of nowhere Ra’s is like “no, they’re actually going to get married” and she just died laughing because she was like “the Olicity’s are gonna be so mad” and really that’s the best motivation to do anything in life.

So that was fun, and after that we went back over to the big celeb room to see how things were looking, with the hope that Kiefer’s line wouldn’t be too bad and I could get my photo op signed. There were only a handful of people in his line when we got there but he was also very obviously not at the table lol, so we investigated and asked if we knew when he was gonna be back and they were like “5 minutes” at which point we were like well that’s probably not true but it’s worth getting in line anyway so we did and maybe like 40 minutes later he showed up? Still much much better than like 2 1/2 hours in line lol so I was satisfied.

Now I guess I should talk about how much I love him to fully explain this story. Since it was a con and they were marketing towards what people would know him from there was a lot of like photos and stuff he was in when he was younger, none of which I’d ever seen or really had any idea existed, and some of those photos were rather entertaining. Back to the point though, I loved 24 back in the day like super hardcore, we were diehard fans for multiple seasons and like, I adored that show lol. If any of you remember my post from last weekend when I met Annie Wersching and how much I loved her, this is like that except so much more because this is the MAN who was the center of it all and damn I love him so much. Of course it’s been years since that has aired and he has in fact moved on, and I most definitely started watching Designated Survivor for him because I loved him so much. If you’re not familiar with the concept of the show it’s like when there’s a state of the union speech or something where all the members of the congress and cabinet and president are all in one place there’s like one person removed at a different location in case something should happen to all of the people at that location, which of course begs the question what on earth would happen if that were the case?? And that’s where the show picks up, with him being a minor member of the cabinet, secretary of housing or something along those lines but not like a politician really and he gets selected to be the person not at the state of the union and then of course there’s a horrific massive terrorist attack where they blow up the capitol building and suddenly the president, his entire cabinet, and the entirety of congress (apparently, anyway, but that’s another story) are all gone and this guy is now being sworn in as president. So I mean it’s pretty wild. But like, ugh he’s so great at it, and it frequently makes me frustrated that we’re in our current presidential reality because Tom Kirkman dammit is a fucking fantastic president and why can’t we just have him??? It’s not fair. So I was pretty amped to meet him.

So we get up there and he makes some comment about me being back with my cat ears lol and we talked and I said how much I loved the two shows and how happy I was that designated survivor got picked up by Netflix for a third season after it’s apparent cancellation because I really loved him in that show and wasn’t ready to say goodbye to it today and then he told me I made his day and was really happy and then when we were leaving he was like “see ya Rach” and I just died entirely I was deceased lol like this was so wild I couldn’t handle it. So I was sufficiently amped up after that lol. We were pretty much done after that so we were gonna get dinner and we were looking for a place on google maps and such and we wanted to see if we could make it to a store or some sort that had baby clothing to get a present for Katrina which hadn’t occurred to us until we arrived at the con and somebody else had done so for some reason lol. So I found a Cheesecake Factory next to some stores and y’all now how we feel about the Cheesecake Factory lol so we ubered over there and had to wait a bit but that was fine because after a crazy day just sitting was relaxing enough lol. So we were typical and ordered the same things we always get lol and then for dessert we both got the pumpkin cheesecake because it’s PUMPKIN time of course lol so that was lovely.

Once we finished there we walked down the road a bit to see what our options were and ended up going into an Old Navy to find their baby clothes section and like, this is why we don’t go to stores with baby clothes in them regularly because we both just like, died, looking at the clothing that was too fucking cute. We ended up finding these really cute little kitty shoes and got two kitty themed shirts to go with it and another shirt that had unicorns on it because we know how Katrina feels about unicorns haha and then got an adorable bunny gift bag by the register to give it to her in. So we were very happy with our purchases. We got an Uber back to the Airbnb that smelled very strongly of axe and I was like ?? lol and when we got back Jess showered and when she got out I brushed my teeth and it was like 8:30 but I was like I’m fucking tired I’m going to bed now lol and I was cold all fucking day like I said so I literally slept in my leather jacket because I didn’t want to take it off 😂😂😂 oh I didn’t explain the whole bedding situation from the night before, oh that was a trip unto itself, let me recount that so you can all appreciate what was happening here.

So if you read this blog at all you probably know that I’m allergic to polyester and can often recognize it on sight because at this point I know what it looks like. So we get to the room and there’s like a folded blanket at the foot of the bed that’s polyester and I’m just like whatever that doesn’t bug me but then once we pulled back the comforter there was a matching blanket and seat set that, I fucking kid you not, were all made out of polyester. And like, I’d never even seen polyester sheets up to this point so this was a totally new situation, and it was the blanket the sheets and the pillowcases so I was like welp I’m fucked and my original idea was to use my designated bath towel as a buffer where my skin would otherwise come into contact with the polyester but that didn’t work very well, at which point we turned the lights back on and took the non-polyester comforter from the top of the bed and just basically wrapped myself in it (like a burrito) and Jess got the rest of the blankets and that worked out fairly well lol so that was that adventure.

Anyway, Saturday night I fell asleep fairly quickly and woke up Sunday morning to my alarm at 9 and started getting ready for day two of the con. I was doing white canary Sara for the day since Katrina was there and we’d be seeing her. So I got into all my gear for that trying to be as careful as I could with my prized possession White Canary jacket signed by Caity Lotz (which was her idea, not mine, just saying). Lol. Since we were more familiar with the venue and their general lack of suitable food (that’s con food for ya) we ubered to a Starbucks that was down the block from the con center to get food and caffeine before going to the con. They somehow ended up being out of butter croissants but offered these honey pistachio ones they’re having now which was actually like super good??? I was kinda doubtful because even though I do like pistachios I’m still not a huge nut person but there ended up being fairly little of actual pistachio on it haha and was just in generally really good! So that was cool. Our goals for the day were pretty much the female actors from the panel the day prior, who were all in the smaller room so we headed up there and hit up Emma Dumont’s table first. If you weren’t around in April to read about our HVFF Chicago interaction with her basically neither of us were particularly attached to her but were going to get an autograph as a surprise for a friend’s birthday and she ended up being like the loveliest person ever so much so that we both got more into The Gifted and into her because it was basically the most personable celebrity interaction I’ve ever had like, it’s hard to explain how awesome she is haha she just is. She didn’t have a line at the time so that helped let us kinda hang out with her a bit longer than we typically would if there was a line (not that that seemed to bother her last time). So of course the first thing that came up was that Jess was cosplaying Lorna (her character from The Gifted) and then the whole Jessica Jones thing from the panel which she thought was fucking hilarious and then proceeded to tell us a story about being mistaken for Krysten Ritter as a Marvel person lol. And she was just continually awesome and hilarious. We ended up getting into a bit of a discussion re HVFF San Jose and how they had apparently been declining Marvel guests and she was like “I was trying so hard, like I came early and stayed late...” and like it made me so angry that anyone would be so rude to her like that after she had been so lovely to everyone so now I’m low key gonna run a Twitter campaign to make HVFF invite Marvel guests to their cons because that’s super shitty of them and they shouldn’t be treating people like that (I’m thinking like #twobrandsonefandom or something corny like that) so yeah that’s what’s happening there lol.

Once we left her table we ran into friends so we talked to them for a bit before going over to Elizabeth Henstridge’s table. Now I’ve seen precisely one episode of Shield so I don’t really know who she is other than from the panel the day before (well, that and certain stories Jess has told me.....) but the interaction was nice enough, she was lovely and British so that was all good. Katrina hadn’t been there initially but walked in after we had finished at Elizabeth Henstridge’s table just a few down from her so we got in the small line that has accumulated for her (again, the layout of this room was super shitty and not at all favorable for actually building lines) and got to her rather quickly, we gave her the baby clothes and she freaked out and loved them so we took a picture with her with them (even though we hadn’t technically paid for a picture 🤷🏻‍♀️) but Katrina was great as always and she was so excited like this is going to be the most well-dressed baby haha it’s gonna be great. It occurred to me that if we had had hindsight we should’ve gotten her a shirt similar to the one Annie Wersching had been wearing last week when she was Very Pregnant and her shirt said “future marvel superhero” with an arrow down pointing at her stomach so if we got Katrina one that said DC and then a baby outfit that said “future DC superhero” for when she’s born we probably would’ve won the internet, but alas, we missed this opportunity sadly. But after that we exited that room and got drinks quickly because my throat was being super dry and my credit card got declined which was like ??? but I figured it was probably a travel issue that’s happened a few times before so I didn’t think anything of it and just paid in cash and used my debit card for the rest of the day. We then hit up the show floor for a bit and weaves through all of it but were pretty much done there. We decided to go elsewhere for lunch then come back (though at this point I was like in all honestly we’re probably not gonna end up coming back). Jess was having a very bad allergy day probably due to something at the Airbnb, either pet related or some toiletry product (damn travel sized shampoos) and it was getting bad so we needed to obtain allergy medication so we got directions to the nearest CVS which required going through the hotel the con center was attached to over to a mall that had a CVS, so that was kinda confusing but we made it over and bought some Claritin D that would hopefully be helpful. Since we were at a mall at this point we went up to the food court to get some food there and ended up at a Johnny Rockets because shakes.

K so just for context I’m now in an Uber on the way home so a lot has happened since I started typing this lol. But yeah, Johnny Rockets was good of course and then we decided as I expected to not bother going back to the con and instead walked around the mall for a bit hitting up our typical shops (which are like, hot topic, h&m, forever 21 and some comic store lol) before ubering back to the Airbnb where we had left our bags to change and grab them before heading to the airport. Got to the airport, security was fine even though their stupid scanner hates me, but we got to our gate with time to spare. We were at the end of the hall in a fairly deserted spot and there was a guy like laying down on the floor with his shoes off and like we didn’t think anything of it because hey people in airports are tired and sometimes need naps. But then a security guy came over and was like radioing “we found him” and tried to gently wake him up and was like “we were looking for you, your wife’s here and she’s very worried about you and was about to cry” and I was like well shit now I feel bad that I didn’t like go tell somebody he was there haha but like I didn’t really think anything of it. So they got a wheelchair for him and wheeled him out of there. At some point I got some food from down in the terminal and we waited until our flight was boarding, once we were on it I listened to the legends podcast episode that dropped today and when I finished that I started writing this.

Short summary on what has happened since, we had initially had a very short layover that Jess was (rightfully) anxious about but our second flight ended up getting delayed so that wasn’t an issue. But they didn’t have like an open gate for some reason so we had to deplane and get in a bus that drove us to the terminal, then to get to our next gate we had to get on another bus to a different terminal before finally reaching our gate, so that was a bit of an adventure, and I mean if our flight hadn’t gotten delayed we almost definitely would’ve missed our connection under those circumstances and that would’ve been bad for everyone so I’m glad that didn’t happen. I grabbed a water and a small fruit cup from the store before sitting for a bit then boarding the plane, at which point I started typing this again and did so through the end of the plane ride, where we got off and went to the ride share pick up spy and for some reason two Ubers canceled on us so I was like fuck it I’m using lyft which ended up being like $8 cheaper but for some reason took like three tries to go through and then it looked like the driver wasn’t moving but eventually he did and we went outside to meet him, got in and started driving home, at which point I started typing this again and I’m still on my way home now. I took my pills on the plane this time so hopefully I won’t have to much of an issue falling asleep because I have to be up at 7 for work like have to have to can’t slack off and call in sick HAVE TO so I need to get as much sleep as possible. But yeah, that’s been this weekend up to this moment, pretty wild. We’re not quite home yet but I think I’m ready to sign off here, so I’ll talk to you guys soon. Goodnight peeps. He is one of the most talented young coaches in the world of volleyball. Started his volleyball journey as a player than as a statistician, assistant coach and later on became head coach for both club and national team. He had an incredible journey so far and the path is still long and it seems to be a very successful one. But he’ll tell us more in the next few minutes. You should read and then read again as this is one of the best interviews I’ve done thanks to the answers this man gave me. With no further introduction, I welcome mister Ferhat Akbas, the head coach of CSM Bucharest female volleyball team and Japan female volleyball team.

Hello mister Akbas and welcome at vladpop.com. The first question is always the easiest one: what does volleyball mean to you?

It is a very simple answer.A day of my life starts with it and finishes with it. A passion that directs all my life. It means everything.

If I did my homework correctly, at first you wanted to play basketball. Looking behind you now, do you consider that arriving at a volleyball team and playing was a great “twist of fate”?

Exactly , and I am very happy that I met with volleyball. After many years, volleyball still looks more enjoyable and a more team-based sport to me.

You are one of the very successful young volleyball coaches. But the path was not that easy as you worked very hard for it. You started as a statistician for Galatasaray and also continued as a statistician at Turk Telekom Ankara. How helpful for you is now as a head coach the fact that you progressed through all the steps of this job, starting as a statistician?

I suggest all the new coaches to scout in one point of their career. It helps you to understand the game better , it gets a lot easier to see the important details. If you want to be a tactical expert , scouting will help you a lot. If you know how to scout , you can read the analyses better and in much efficient way. More important than that, it gives you a great habit to study the game. Every high level team coach has scouts that give many information to the coaches. The key part is , how to read it , how to study it and and to decide how much amount of information is necessary for the players.

The next path in your career was being the assistant coach for a legendary name of female volleyball: Lang Ping. How was it working with her? How much did you learn from her as you also accompanied her when she coached in China too?

It is my turning point on my volleyball journey.She is my teacher.I know almost all high level coaches personally , I was lucky to work with the best ones , but Lang Ping is the best coach that I worked with.Before I met with her I wasn’t aware of thinking in the way of an Asian.They look to the world in a different way.After a great volleyball career , Lang Ping moves to USA.She combines her Chinese way of thinking with the knowledge and experiences from another country.While I was working with her , I was so young that I tried to take her as an example figure.

There is a saying that besides learning, being a coach also means “stealing the skills” of every coach you ever worked with. Which skills did you “steal” from Lang Ping that serves you even today?

I can share and tell the one which is the simplest thing to do.It is very useful also in any life decision.You know , coaches life is based on taking decisions.How good you are about the decisions , you are going to be that good.She taught me to take decisions just in the moments you are in peace , quiet and relaxed..Otherwise the emotions and situation you are in , effects your decision.If you watch her during the games , you will never see her going out of control , getting crazy with some reason or yelling to people during the games.My culture is different but I try this way of thinking all the time.I am trying to take all the decisions with a healthier way of thinking.

I was amazed that you took no breaks and used every opportunity to learn more and more the skills and trades of your job. For example in the summer of 2012, when the club teams were in holyday, you went and worked as a statistician for Veljko Basic when he was head coach of the male Turkey national team. Is this the secret of becoming a great coach: constant working and constant learning?

As I told before I am a lucky coach that I could find these opportunities.It was great to work with men national volleyball team , which is a different sport than women volleyball in my opinion.I represent my country from very young age , all these experiences helps me in some moment.I don’t remember a holiday that I did for a long time.New experiences gives me confidence and energy.I hope I can always work high level and grow.

In 2013 you started your role as the assistant coach for one of the greatest coaches, mister Giovanni Guidetti in Vakifbank. How was that period spent at one of the most powerful volleyball clubs of the world? One thing that you learned from Giovanni?

They were the dream seasons that nobody had , except the players and the staff that was there that years. We won everything , every single game , we dominated world volleyball , became European and world champions.Our success is recorded in Guinness Records book.I worked there for 3 seasons and I always remember it with a smile on my face.About Giovanni , I can say that , focusing to the details of the game and showing the ‘will’ to win a cup or a match , makes his players believe to the victory.

All these things happened until you were 28 years old and that’s why it is so impressive. At 28, you were appointed as head coach of Turkey female national team and you managed to win the 2014 Women’s European Volleyball League against Germany coached by Giovanni Guidetti, your former boss. How did you feel winning against him? How did you feel winning with your home country as head coach?

Representing your country , is something special.We won European League title and European games title , also we had some bad moments as Olympic qualification tournament.Each experience gave me a lot , I am trying to reach to the best version of myself.It is all meaningful when you lose or win something.Volleyball world is quiet small , so one day we are opponents. , other day we are on the same side.So I don’t care a lot who the opponent is , I try to focus to my team and myself.

For the past season and continuing you are the head coach of CSM Bucharest. How did you find Romanian volleyball compared with the Turkish league?

The main difference is the budget of the clubs in Romania.Many clubs are directed with smaller budgets , but budget is not everything.Romanian Volleyball is improving a lot.We need to keep it in this way all together.Better sport halls , better gyms can help this a lot.Turkish volleyball made a big step after building volleyball gyms which is not shared by other sports.And the other thing is , sharing information , helping each other is always makes the difference.If a club is successful , it is good for everybody , if a coach did a good job , it is an opportunity for another coach.If a referee is good , it is good for a player.Everything which is connected with volleyball is connected with each other, too.Lets do it better all together.

I’ve been following the Romanian volleyball championship for 17 years now and I’ve seen it grow. Unfortunately the financial factor is of high importance in any business and volleyball makes no exception. Considering this factor it seems there will be a battle of two for the championship this season: CSM Bucharest against Volei Alba Blaj. Do you think there will be other teams also to influence or fight for the Championship?

Bacau and Targoviste is always a big force in this league.As a newcomer Timisoara made a good job , too.I hope there can be more teams that can target top 3 spots in the league.

This summer, like no other transfer window before, it seemed like a transfer race between you and Volei Alba Blaj. You managed to snatch from them Adina Salaoru, their captain for the past four years and they managed in signing two of your best players from last season: Susana Cebic and Ioana Baciu. How do you comment this transfer market activity?

Our strategy has nothing to do with the other teams.We are trying to improve our team system adding new players to the ones that were already with us.We kept the team basis and we are trying strengthen our team. Salaoru is a player that can give us a lot. Cebic gave great confidence to us with her experience , she was a great captain. Baciu made the biggest step in her career last season.I wish them good luck and the best for the next season.

For the first time in its very short history, your club will play in the Champions League this season. I know the format is changed now and what Volei Alba Blaj managed last season is very improbable to happen again soon, but what is your objective for this season in the Champions League?

Champions League success is the most important success in CSM club history.First time we are going to have the opportunity to play with the ‘elite category’ teams.We are going to challenge ourselves and try our best for it.It gives me great motivation.We are going to participate 1st time as CSM team , but we deal with the players who has great experiences in Champions League and international volleyball. The objective is hard to tell until we see the drawing of lots.It can be easy and hard groups and we don’t know which opponents we are going to face.Only thing I can guarantee ; people who watch our games is going to see a team fighting very hard for the victory.

I am a huge fan of Imoco Volley Conegliano and I had the chance to spend a lot of time with the staff and the players during the Champions League Final Four tournament in May. I noticed that this year, except one player, the starting six remains. The same in Vakifbank. In a world of volley where entire team rosters change from one year to another, is this a key to success, keeping the players for multiple years?

Stability always brings success in sports.The teams that you count has the budget and organizational power to keep the same players or build totally a new team.They are choosing a strategy and they keep their team.This brings success.We kept 4 key players from the last season and added experienced players to make the team stronger.I hope and believe that we can do good job.

Is it all about the money in today’s volleyball? Vakifbank has a 14 million euro budget, there are some Russian teams with huge budgets as well. Is it all about the money or sometimes money can’t buy success?

Team spirit is always bigger than budgets.Budget is a tool just to create the great team.But team spirit , team culture is built with patience , hard work in years.This is what we are trying to do in CSM. Working hard , trying to get the team better and stronger year by year.The result shows that we are on the right path.

You are also involved with the Japan national team. A totally different culture. How do you manage to deal with it?

I try to live as a Japanese here. I try to always remind me , in each situation , Japanese people thinks in a different way. It is better to adapt and understand. It is very enjoyable to be on the court with Japanese players. Because you don’t need to repeat what you want from them. They focus easily to the information and they work harder than every player on the world.

Rumours say that besides your current setter, Hashimoto, we’ll see two more Japanese players in CSM Bucharest for this season. Can you confirm that?

We are building our team and we announced the transfers that we did. I suggest everybody to follow our club official website and social media accounts , they can see the new transfers on the right time.So they can get all the news in a very quick and official way.

Your thoughts for this season?

I wish all the participants a great season with great experiences , great matches with Fair Play. Each of us needs to announce and inform volleyball activity to the people that doesn’t follow volleyball in Romania. Each person that is involved positively to volleyball in Romania can make our sports grow.

On Nov. 5th, 2017, Markieff Morris was posted up inside a corner cubby of the Toronto Raptors’ away locker room, his knees covered in ice, his feet dipped into an ice bucket.

In his second game back following a sports hernia injury, which left him on the sideline for six weeks including training camp and the preseason, Morris went 2-8 from the field, mustering just ten points. John Wall, mending a shoulder injury, spent the game in sweatpants. Despite that, behind a torrent of threes from Bradley Beal, the Wizards beat the Raptors, 107-96.

This past Sunday, the Wizards were in a similar spot, facing off against the Raptors, again without Wall. After the game, Morris sat in the same enclave, but the ice packs were gone. He played a much stronger game defensively, but he was cold again, going 1-10 from the floor. The Wizards couldn't come away with a victory.

There's no shame in losing when your best player is out of the mix. But it was more so the way the Wizards lost that was troubling, coming up empty on effort plays that have been the hallmark of losses that should have been wins. Despite getting a career-high seven assists from Gortat and 29 points from their generally putrid bench, the Wizards squandered away their opportunity by getting destroyed in the paint, to the tune of fifty points, and letting Toronto's shooters get loose in the fourth quarter.

The Wizards are an utterly confounding team. They can make quick work of an Eastern Conference rival without their best player, yet fall to the lowly Lakers after talking heaps of trash. They were an unconscious Kelly Olynyk game away from making the Eastern Conference Finals last year, and they've made serious internal improvements this season. Bradley Beal, with his devastating jumper and burgeoning playmaking abilities, looks like the perfect secondary star to pair with Wall. Otto Porter is living up to the maximum extension he signed last season. Kelly Oubre has developed into a fiery 3-and-D wing. They possess the requisite bodies, firepower, and spacing to throw at LeBron James. Before the season began, they looked primed to build on that improvement and become a real challenger to the Cavaliers in the conference.

Yet is the Boston Celtics who have emerged from the Eastern Conference fray, capping off a recent 16-game winning streak with wins against the Cavs and Warriors.

The Wizards are, in so many ways, an embodiment of Morris. Flashes of brilliance, occasional lapses of judgment and effort. He is the team's heart and soul, their standard-bearer for toughness, who occasionally runs back lazily on defense and closes out halfway.

Last season, he cultivated the take-no-prisoners Death Row DC identity that re-energized their campaign, turning them from a team of talented, fledgling parts into the unified group that entered the TD Garden wearing all black (for, you know, the Celtics' funeral).

"I'm still one of the leaders on this team, " said Morris. "I just make sure that I'm heard everyday."

But this season, the outward displays of that identity haven't been accompanied by the results. This is the team that talks trash but backs up on an inconsistent basis, with the gifts and consequences of recklessness, playing out on a nightly basis. A team with this much talent shouldn't be trafficking in so much volatility.

If there ever was a metaphor for the Wizards: They feature the only guy in the league who would wind up for a swing against the opposition, only to clock his own team’s best player.

The Wizards, for what it’s worth, don't seem to believe they need to operate with a sense of urgency.

"There's a lot of teams that wouldn't mind being 9-7 right now," said Brooks, after the loss to the Raptors. "We know we could have played better to start the season. But it's nothing that I'm disappointed in.”

Morris, on the other hand, insisted there was no reason to panic. Maybe they are onto something. The Wizards have consistently played better in the playoffs than their regular season record would suggest, and there's no reason to sound the alarm in November. But this is also the same team (with a different coach, it should be said) that has let injuries and inconsistencies snowball into a missed playoff berth. That's likely off the books for this season, but the point is this: Things can get out of control here (they have before) and quickly.

There’s also a compelling argument that teams who haven't won championships shouldn't be operating as though they can flip a switch in the playoffs. The Wizards haven't worked through their wrinkles, and meaningful flaws are hard to diagnose when a team is willfully operating below full capacity. Which problems are a matter of flipping the switch, and what really needs fine-tuning?

Last season, Washington's deficiencies came down to modernity and poor bench play.

A healthy Morris, as ever, could be the key — a testament to how little things can have major impacts. A variation of the starting lineup that replaces Marcin Gortat with Kelly Oubre, and shifts Morris to the five, could turn the tables on almost any lineup, and force the opposition to adjust to them. With Wall, Beal, Oubre, Porter, and Morris together, Wall could pick defenses apart in a spread pick-and-roll offense that, operated correctly, would force defenses at best to give up an open three for Oubre.

"Definitely," Brooks said, "we will go more to that. We have to monitor his minutes. When we have our team locked in and Otto at the four, [Morris] at the five, we can be pretty hard to stop offensively."

Defensively, they could go plenty of directions, opting to switch every pick-and-roll that doesn't leave Wall stuck on a big man. With plenty of height and athleticism on the perimeter, they could also try to trap and create deflections, while Morris could keep track of stretchy big men who give Gortat trouble.

"I played the five a lot earlier in my career at Phoenix, so it's something that I'm used to," agreed Morris. "It's not foreign to me."

Shifting Morris to the five for beats would also, Brooks-willing, eat into Ian Mahinmi's minutes. (Mahinmi, AKA the scourge of the second unit.) There is also the possibility of bringing Morris off the bench permanently, where he is a superior creator to Oubre. For all of Oubre's improvements, he is outstretched on the second unit. Prior to Morris's return, the starting line up with Oubre outscored opponents by a staggering 22.5 points per 100 possessions.

But all of these considerations remain secondary as the Wizards struggle to compile a record that could vie for homecourt in the East. Whether it's behind the massive chip on John Wall’s shoulder, Death Row DC, or some other ode to toughness, the Wizards have never been able to internalize any motto for a sustained period of time. Let's hope, for their sake, that they don’t internalize complacency either.

Take a brief moment to appreciate Stephen Curry maintaining his dribble while slipping all over the court.

The first time I witnessed Curry do this was in the preseason of his historic second MVP season. I was mesmerized, at a time when I had no clue just how often Curry would leave me just as gobsmacked all season.

It happened again in the Warriors brutal blowout loss to the Thunder. There are probably more important things to discuss from this game, but I'm lost on this. How the hell did he maintain his dribble?

The addition of Kevin Durant to the Warriors somewhat put an end to the Curry we fell in love with: the virtuoso who would expand the game by some magic trick or another, be it his jumper or a ridiculous dribble move, on a nightly basis. It's not so much that he's declined but that in the Warriors' new framework, his responsibilities -- along with his freedoms — have shifted. In the past, the ball was his and his only. He had the room to put away a victory, produce within the offense and put on a show every night. Now, his game is about nuts and bolts. He is not in the right flow for artistic inevitability.

But I love when moments like this happen. Yes, it's not the same as when he casually hit a 40-foot game-winner in that building so many years ago. But while the best about Curry's run at that moment was how unstoppable he felt, the magic was in those small, incredible feats that showed off a level -- a mastery, really -- of every basketball skill imaginable, honed and at his command in a way that nobody had ever witnessed before.

Do you want to change your name: Because my name is a “legitimate” Asian one, I’ve often used to wonder if I should change it to an English one, or at least get a more Americanized nickname. But by now having gone through 20+ years of life with my original Asian name, I’ve come to appreciate its beauty and unique-ness, kind of like how you grow to love and accept body features that you might not have been too happy with when you were younger. I don’t really have a problem with people mispronouncing my name, as long as I can tell they’re putting the effort in to try to say it correctly. I’m actually very interested in how different people choose to pronounce my name upon first try (so at the beginning of the semester, one of my professors asked us to tell her in advance how our names were pronounced if they had a difficult pronunciation so that she wouldn’t embarrass anybody when she called roll. Idk if it was rude, but I didn’t raise my hand :p I was just really curious to see how she would pronounce it lol.).
