WIP Intro

Title: Devourer of Souls

Genre + tropes: Fantasy, found family, fairytale retelling (Snow White and Rose Red)

Plot

Seth was supposed to be a healer. That's what everyone said she would be. She would become a healer and fight in the war for the Goddess of Time. But her healing doesn't work like it's supposed to. Instead of giving life, she takes it away. People say she eats souls.

She tries to live a quiet life in the countryside, away from the war, but is rudely interrupted when Theo, a lost demigoddess, wanders into her life. Together, they try to find a place for themselves and their strange magic in this world. But war is never kind, and the Goddess of Time wants her daughter's power on her side - and she won't let some pesky healer get in her way.

Characters

Seth: a girl with terrifying powers who just wants a quiet life in a small town, alone, but learns to be happy after finding Theo. She was expelled from the hospital she was apprenticing for a failed healing that killed the patient and permanently damaged her leg in the process.

Theo: a powerful demigoddess whose magic is making her soul slowly wither away. Her adoptive family sent the Order after her after discovering her unusual powers and ends up finding Seth on her journey. Through her Goddess-Mother's influence, she becomes consumed by the war.

Flick: a teenager touched by the Goddess of Love, whose body houses two conflicting souls. They are cursed to have anyone they meet fall in love with them, and Seth takes them under her wing while on their journey to find themself.

Jane: a sort of puppet created by the Goddess of Time to replace Theo after her death, delivered to Seth when the Goddess couldn't stand her anymore. She's in the mortal world for the first time and trying to figure out who she wants to be.

The Goddess of Time: Theo and Jane's mother. By far the most ruthless - and broken - among her sisters. She lives in her Garden in the plane of the gods, where she takes her daughters to shape them into her champions.

Notes on the setting

everything in this world has a soul, or life force, which can be transferred by those with the right magical inclination

usually, healers can only direct the "souls" from themselves to other in order to heal them, and when their soul runs out, they die - it is the ultimate sacrifice and a healer's greatest honour, to surrender their very souls to their Goddess

there are three Sister Goddesses, each representing a core aspect of humanity, waging war against each other to see who is more powerful (I expand upon it here)

certain types of powerful magic can cause your soul to start eating itself if not kept in check, as is Theo's case

🔭 wip intro: cynosure

(please note that this is a temporary intro)

When discovering other neighboring civilizations and teaming up with then, humans gained access to technologies they never though they could have - quick space travel, way to send messages to planets in different systems, and terraforming. While most are keen on exploring the new worlds, some on the Earth still haven't forgotten one of their biggest goals. Terraforming Mars.

It's been ten years since the first group of settlers arrived to Mars. While the terraforming technology, construction robots, farming robots and a few specialists from other planets have already made it a habitable little colony when they arrived, there are still problems. The leaders have divided into groups based on what industry they want Mars to concentrate on, where should they live and, most importantly, how to keep the big, bad caring Earth happy with progress.

Quinn has dreamed of leaving Earth, partly to escape some things in his life and partly to see the world. But dealing with lots of aliens on other planets seems like a step too big for him to take. Joining a fresh colony on Mars, on the other hand, might work well. He thinks of all the opportunities there will be, as he sneaks into the ship with a stolen ID from one of those chosen for the second group of colonists, who might have gotten a bit too drunk in the bar. Quinn did leave him an apology letter, though.

WHISPERS, A SHITTY COMIC SANS RE-INTRO

Transcriptions/IDs are in the alt text! I'll also add them into a reblog down the line, so that those who need it that way can access the same information as everyone else!

This reintro has been a hot minute on the way, but until a few days ago, I'd kind of set the story down to marinate so I could focus on the Millennium Saga. But, after realizing I need to let that marinate a little bit longer, I picked it up again! And it's going insanely well!

So here, I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do, and I'm going to try to get the ~proper~ intro out sometime in the next week, so you get a better idea of the tone of this WIP!

WIP Intro!

Title: 25% Crisis (Short Story Series)

Genre: Slice-of-life, but make it urban fantasy. Stories are written in 1st person, with POV swapping between stories! (i.e., Just 1 POV per short, but it may be different in each story.)

General Synopsis:

A mage, a family of wizards, a vampire, and a witch are just trying to exist in a society where magic is considered fantasy—and maybe figure out how to be functioning adults while they're at it.

Status: Ongoing series of short stories! (Check out the masterlist of stories here!) This is going to be my first series that I will be posting exclusively here on Tumblr, so I'm very excited!

Characters (the Most Relevant Ones):

Freddi Fisher: (they/them) (23 y/o) Local idiot college student that happens to be a mage. Studying writing and rhetoric. They definitely didn't almost blow up the Ralters' microwave. As far as they know, they're the only magician in their family.

Rudy Ralter: (he/him) (22 y/o) Freddi's childhood friend and the youngest child in the Ralter family. For some reason he's the best in his family at using magic, which drives his siblings insane. Chaotic gremlin.

Autumn Ralter: (she/her) (24 y/o) Linden's twin sister and technically the middle child. She's generally pretty phlegmatic, unless she's around Poppy. In trade school for jewelry making. Likes to crochet.

Linden Ralter: (he/him) (24 y/o) Autumn's twin brother, and technically the oldest of the Ralter siblings. He's trying to take responsibility with his magic by teaching himself proper spells, unfortunately while he's already a tired med school student.

Poppy Smith: (she/her) (26 y/o) Autumn's girlfriend, also happens to be a very young vampire. She has a half-brother named Kyle (who's 72 years old) that's only somewhat relevant. Desperately trying to find a long-term hobby.

Franziska "Fran" Gyllenskog: (she/her) (25 y/o) A witch, and the only one in the group that went to an academy for magicians, so she's the one that's usually called in to clean up the group's magical messes. She's not super familiar with the non-magic way of life, and is terrified of cars.

Noam Thompson: (he/him) (23 y/o) Just a regular human that has no idea that magic is real. He's Freddi's suitemate at the dorms on campus, as well as a classmate/colleague. A recovering coffee addict. He can and will accidentally get really deep into conspiracy theories instead of studying.

Setting:

The year is probably 2023. Our heroes are living right in the middle of Salt Lake City, Utah. (Does there have to be a reason?)

Magic is real, but the only ones that know about it are those that can use it or have some other experience with it. The rest of the general population isn't supposed to find out—or there might be "consequences." (What are those consequences? Maybe we'll find out.)

Cylindra Nyx doesn't mean to run away-- she only ever means to run towards something, or someone, else.

Synopsis

Noblemen's daughters are rumored to go mad if left alone, and Cylindra Nyx has lived her life under the shadow of this superstition. While her brother prepares to join the kingdom's war effort, Cylindra is expected to sit pretty and follow the plan laid out for her. After several failed runaway attempts, Cylindra's close to accepting that she'll never be free.

But then a strange girl with desperate eyes runs out of the forest one night, and Cylindra's plans are tossed aside.

Elysia's an immortal on a mission to save the world from a mad mage's plan to steal all magic. Cylindra's a prisoner with every reason to turn her back on the life she knows. Joining Elysia's world of magic and sorcerers was never a question, at all.

With the guidance of two other magical beings, Cylindra and Elysia begin their journey together. Without magic of her own, though, it's hard for Cylindra to understand how she's meant to help-- especially when, after disaster strikes, it seems she's their only hope left.

Characters and other details beneath the cut

Characters

Cylindra: Our main character. A human with no connection to magic or knowledge of its creatures, she's the least prepared for this mission to save the world. She's loyal, though, and she's stubborn enough to fight her way through every obstacle. Running away from home is more dangerous and difficult than she ever planned for, but she's not one to ever turn back.

Elysia: One of the few known Immortals wandering this realm. She's also one of the few people left who's willing to put a stop to Rowan's plans. She's a fighter who sees her immortality as a reason to defend others. She's seen herself as a weapon for so long, though, that she doesn't quite know what to do when Cylindra looks at her like she could be something more.

Faye: A forest-dwelling magic user who has her own reasons to want Rowan defeated. Trapped in the forest for decades as a result of Rowan's spells, she becomes Cylindra's go-to source for answers on magic and mages. She doesn't always seem to understand or trust people, but she relies on Cylindra to undo what wrongs have been done.

Oleander: Faye's closest companion during her isolation in the forest, the only person she's seen since being locked away. Oleander's not naturally magic but, as a result of a curse from Rowan, he has the ability to turn into a bird. Incredibly protective of Faye, he's another human who joins the side of magic.

Rowan: A mage seeking levels of magic never before seen in humanity. He leads a group of other unnatural magic users with an almost cult-like control, allowing him access to the king's favor. We first meet him as he's hunting Elysia for information-- and we see him again when he taunts Cylindra for her decisions to join such a devastating fight.

Excerpt

It’s the giant spiders again.

Cylindra knows, somewhere in the back of her head, that the scholars and scientists have renamed the beasts— something far more pretentious and less intimidating, meant to add a level of ownership to the creatures’ existence. Cylindra learned about it in her studies not too long ago; still, she prefers to refer to them as giant spiders. Not only is it more fitting, but it has a more adventurous air to the tone when she imagines how she’ll recount her tale on the road— “I faced a pack of giant spiders all on my own.”

Of course, in order to do so, she needs to actually face them.

The spiders stand two horses’ widths away from her, their blackened round bodies low to the ground as spined legs twitch against the grass. They’re not quite as big as Cylindra imagines they’re meant to be, just barely the size of the rose bushes around them, but, well— they’re big enough to be a problem.

Particularly when the problem occurs when Cylindra’s halfway through her family’s garden, a pack on her back and her best traveling dress pressed to her skin. The spiders stand in a line between the pink roses and the red roses, beady eyes watching Cylindra like guard dogs.

Cylindra wishes her family had invested in guard dogs, but domesticated monsters are the nobles’ new trend, it seems.

WAHOO okay I finished this a li’l while ago but I got distracted. Anyway, here’s a little promo I drew for the piece I’ll be working on for camp nano this July: For We Are Both Fragile Things!! This belongs in the Bleeding Over Eden universe, but it acts as a prequel to the main story that sets up important events and character relationships.

My focus to start is going to be on fully outlining it and working out the fine details, but I’m hoping to get to the stage where I can begin drafting it as well soon!! :> As for what the final product of this is gonna be.... good question. We’ll see!

For those who are unaware of Bleeding Over Eden and don’t know what this is about to begin with, here’s a brief summary of this particular story (unfortunately I am too tired to make it snappy and catchy so <3):

‘For We Are Both Fragile Things’ is the love story of two men, Noah Phan and Arthur Huffman, as they came together and formed an intense, fiery love, a bond that would have a ripple effect across their lives, changing them both forever. However, not all love is meant to last, and the tragic, violent end of Noah and Arthur’s relationship would set in motions a series of events that would tear reality itself apart at the seams.

Or: This is gonna be a sad story about two men falling in love and the downward spiral of their relationship falling apart.

CONTENT WARNINGS: While I’ll have a more complete list of warnings once I finish outlining this, this story will heavily feature themes of toxic relationships, substance abuse (especially drugs and alcohol), homophobia (both internalized and otherwise), abuse and trauma, murder, and suicide/self-harm. Please tread lightly!

In the Labyrinth, they talk of gods.

They whisper between their fingers and sweeten their breath with the tales of titans of old who once stood so tall that a single breath would cause earth-tremors, their steps reshaping the ground trod beneath them. Their fingers were the tools that smoothed the mountains into points, shaped and carved the ridges and valleys in between. If you hike far enough, one woman claims, if you travel to a point where the oxygen is thin and your vision blacks, you can make out a partial print against the mountainside. You can run your own fingers along its length and still feel the titan’s warmth as if his palm were pressed right against yours.

The woman says, It is a thing of worship. It is a thing of devotion.

In the Labyrinth, they ask you to make you make your body anew before the King of the High Hills. They say that you are alive because you must suffer for the life and love of the Lord, that you must open your body and let him lick along your flesh so that he may taste the endlessness of his perpetual reign.

In the Labyrinth, there is no escape from his touch.

“You have a heavy burden upon you,” the headmaster was saying, teeth and eyes all a glitter under the amber cast candles. “I am not unsympathetic to the arduous path ahead of you—but please understand that this suffering must be experienced for the longevity of the king, for the beautiful life ahead of him. Only he is the one who can shed mortality and raise to the gods, because he is the only one strong enough, courageous enough, to count the cost of living forever. You must succeed where others have failed. You, this class, this is our last chance to mend what has been made broken. You must. You must.”

The Mouths of Elysium is a dark-academia fantasy created with Twine where your choices matter to the story. You live inside the Labyrinth, a maze that hates to become known with walls and paths that change every hour. The center of the Labyrinth sits a university that has been there since the beginning of time; its only purpose is to recruit students who can solve the puzzle of life, who can create an elixir that would allow the King of the High Hills to live past the length of forever. Failure means a fate worse than death.

You are one of those students.

Althea Callaghan - You know her in death. She has been the taste of rot against your tongue, the anger and hurt in your palms. You see the nice, beautiful lines of her teeth and become a creature of grief unfolding unto yourself. Debase yourself with the fervent want of her. Bend at your waist and beg for forgiveness.

You hate her. You want to watch her bleed. She feels the exact same about you, but what she doesn't know is that every waking moment of your life is dedicated to her.

Writeblr Intro

Hello! My name is Kit. I am new to writeblr, but very old to tumblr. I live in the US, I'm 26 and use she/they pronouns.

I've been creeping on the tags for a while, but I finally made a blog just for writing. I'd love to share updates on what I'm writing, excerpts and talk about writing with other writers.

I'm currently writing my first novel, it's young adult high fantasy. I've written about 40,000 words in the universe, but I've recently finished a more detailed outline. So, I'm starting the real rough draft now that I know more of what I want to say.

A lot of my characters are queer and disabled, like me. I want to write books that are magical and that a lot of different people can see themselves in. I think fantasy serves as a cool conduit for imagining what the world could look like beyond a lot of the power structures we take for granted.

I'd love to follow other authors, particularly ones that are also working on longer term projects. I think it'd be cool to get feedback from people, or find other people who have been doing this longer and talk more about their thought processes. I'm open to following writers of all genres since I read them all and think there's so many cool things to learn from different styles!

Any advice on how to get started is appreciated, will be following anyone that interacts with this post.

When Vivien Webb breaks into Rainier Mortem’s office, he's only following the whim of his obsession. Love makes you do things like that. Things you shouldn’t. But when he finds—and impulsively steals—a hidden vial of demonic ichor, it sets in motion a chain of events at once everything he’s ever wanted and a nightmare made real.

In Rainier’s defence, sleeping with a student was never something he intended to do, things just sort of shook out that way. Vivien is different. Special. Addictive. And Rainier’s never been good at denying himself what he wants. Besides, if the kid stole his ichor, he needs to know sooner rather than later, because he has plans for it far greater than whatever street corner Vivien’s planning on selling it on. But it isn’t the ichor either of them should be concerned with—it’s the thing it came from. Because demons, much like lovers, want nothing less than all you have to give.

Rainier Mortem - wretched bisexual demonology professor. hot and charming and knows it. incapable of taking responsibility for anything. the closest thing demonology has to a rock star. astonishingly good with his mouth. dirtbag trans ally and horny bastard.

Wolfe Talbot - Rainier's oldest, longest-suffering friend. former army medic, current paramedic. regrettably still a little bit in love with Rainier. regularly calls Rainier on his bullshit (not that Rainier listens).

Holly Barker - Wolfe's girlfriend and former classmate of Rainier's. feminist, pagan, and prone to speaking her mind. would stab Rainier in the balls given the opportunity. possibly the only actually sane person in this book.

Alice Vox - hottest, gothest sex worker. owns the nightclub Wonderland. another old friend of Rainier's who is actually smart and never slept with him (much to his neverending despair). enjoys fucking with people.

Lucille Carmine is not one to relinquish her hold on someone once her wicked talons have sunk into them, as Jayce all too painfully learns once more. He’s pulled into her employ again, Lott jumping in after his best friend, tasked - under extreme duress, of course - to retrieve The Liminality Paradox. Previously thought to have been nothing more than a bedtime story, Jayce and Lott find themselves unwillingly heading to The Crescent of Fools and Forgotten Time, right into the heart of The Fool’s domain, a place where time and space lose all meaning, where everything that has ever happened is happening all at once and where nothing ever happens all the same. A place where the ends of the universe could be nothing more than a hop, skip, and a jump away, but the five feet in front of you could stretch out to infinity and beyond. A place where the insane rule sovereign and the sane are grinded to a dust, folded into the ripples of the Crescent. All to steal an artifact of untold power for one of the most dangerous overlords of the criminal world, and to lay even more unchecked power at her feet for her to abuse.
