this was an impulsive decision but i did it anyway while working on reqs so here

also one of power's hcs repeated idk why my phone hates me 🤷‍♂️

denji -

- would probably die the first time he smoked pot, no matter what he smoked it from he will most likely pass out and not wake up for a good few hours

- cannot figure out a pipe like at all he just can't seem to hold it the right way or how long he's supposed to hold his thumb and then inhale he just cannot do it

- his favorite method is probably a bong like power, the bigger the better for him, he probably threw up the first time though from accidentally hitting it too hard 💀

- denji is okay with joints or blunts, but if you ask him to light it he will say he's worried of burning his face off with a lighter that close (fair tbh) so you always have to do it unfortunately

- he is probably clingy when he's high like reze, except he just lays his whole body on top of you, mumbling out incoherent sentences you can't even understand which is mainly just him saying how he loves you

- denji also gets more jealous easily when he's high, if he sees anyone looking at you in the slightest way he will tell them to back off even if they aren't interested in you at all because he can't differentiate the two when he's high

- denji probably got SUPER paranoid the first time he smoked, thinking there was devils when it was just power or just overthinking everything possible

- he probably smokes with you every few days, not every day but quite often even if he does nothing to help contribute the costs like a fucking scavenger

power -

- does not understand the rules of smoking with others like ashing the blunt before passing it, hitting it twice, or anything it's honestly embarrassing

- she loves hotboxing in a car or just the bedroom, claims it gets her higher faster and it does honestly so she's not wrong 🤷‍♂️

- is obsessed with those gas masks she put one on once and convinced you to buy one somehow and now she is always using it

- power seems like a bong girl to me idk she probably just gets really big ones with pretty designs and most likely one that glows in the dark because she's like a child and gets super excited over being able to see it in the dark

- do not ask this woman to grind down the weed, the one and only time you asked she poured all the buds on the tray and just...smashed them with her hands instead of using the grinder, needless to say she wasn't allowed to smoke with you for two weeks

- power is already a menace, but when she's high it's even worse, she will try to fight everyone no matter the reason, and she yells a lot more, it's a surprise you don't have hearing loss yet with how she screams every word she speaks

- if you were to hand her a blunt with a flavored wrap she would probably hit it once and then just eat the whole thing and then throw up because she literally ate the entire blunt 😐

- power probably smokes a lot after she realizes the effects it has on people, though she's also a scavenger like denji she does nothing to help not even cleaning the bong water for you 😒

aki -

- aki already smokes cigarettes, so he's familiar with the concept of smoking, but smoking pot is a completely different way of smoking than cigarettes to him

- he most likely started out with a joint or blunt, seeing as it's the closest he can get to a cigarette without actual tobacco

- aki probably likes flavored wraps better then cones because he likes having a taste rather than straight weed flavor

- he hates bongs, hates them because he can never seem to take a small hit off one and his head always hurts super bad after taking one hit because he can't control it 😭

- aki is probably okay with pipes, probably the sherlock ones though and nothing with a design on it like a marvel logo or some shit, just a small one that has no design is good for him

- when aki is high he is way more chill and calm when it comes to denji and power and is definitely more comfortable with you, even going as far as leaving little marks on your neck to express he wants something but won't actually say it

- aki also does become more emotional when he's high, he doesn't know or understand why it just happens, he will tear up at certain affectionate actions or when watching a movie and he gets really embarrassed after

- he already smokes cigarettes a lot, so this would be no different pretty much, he probably has one of those cool cases that holds two joints in one that he carries around or mixes them with his cigarettes in the box

makima -

- a blunt girlie there is no doubt about it, she loves all the flavors you can get and actually has a few favorites she really enjoys

- will pay for all of the supplies whenever you need more or just want something new, don't bother trying to pay she will do it anyways

- makima knows how to do o's with the smoke even if it's harder she does it perfectly like 😵‍💫

- on occasion she will use a pipe, though, but she despises bongs and any other method, mainly because bong water gets nasty fast and she doesn't want to bother cleaning it all the time (same ngl)

- everything is super organized and looks like every little thing has it's own place on the tray, she doesn't like when the tray gets a bunch of useless shit on it like stems and roaches from joints she will literally clean the whole thing just to make it look pretty again

- makima does enjoy a edible every once in a while when she's traveling and can't smoke, she usually gets gummies because they hit her faster than normal edibles made by someone else

- she has a roach clip thats probably like iridescent or multicolored or some shit because she likes using that than possibly burning her fingers

- makima doesn't smoke a whole lot, mostly just on her days off and after work but never before work or a business event of some sort, even though she doesn't change much when she is high

reze -

- when i say reze is clingy as hell when she's high i mean literally so fucking clingy 😭 she will be attached to you the whole time, playing with your fingers completely zoning out of everything else

- she probably has a cute little jar she stores the weed in with hearts on it or some shit and her tray is probably some sort of purple galaxy with a lid to cover the contents

- she will smoke out of anything, she doesn't really have a preference she likes all methods of smoking really but she leans towards pipes

- reze is also 10x more emotional when she's high, she could see a puppy on a tv show and would start sobbing uncontrollably leaving you a confused mess trying to help her feel better

- like denji, when she is high enough she will just lay on top of you while hugging you tightly, playing with your hair while ranting about how much she loves you

- she most likely has a collection of custom lighters in a drawer in the bedroom, she specifically likes the old school zipper lighters, probably with cool designs on them like butterflies or something

- reze probably makes really good edibles idk she's the one most likely to know how to bake in my opinion so if you buy the supplies she will make some and it's usually cake so she can decorate it and make it look pretty

- she probably smokes the most out of everyone excluding aki like on a daily she would be high constantly if it weren't for her job, her off days are spent laying in bed smoking and sleeping the whole time which she gets far more cuddly than normal on those days

LORE/TIMING HELP!

OK BG3 and Forgotten Realms/ D&D people! I need your very high intelligence rolls tossed my way! So! I am trying to establish a semi-accurate and realistic time frame for between Acts 1-3. Possible (though very mild) Act 3 spoilers (not pertaining to anything patch 5 b/c I haven't gotten there yet so PLEASE don't discuss anything of that here...but general stuff may be mentioned so please proceed with caution).

So, in Act 3, if we don't play as Gale, we meet Tara on the roof. Now, She was left back in Waterdeep so assuming there was no Greater Teleportation spell available to her, it would take her about 45 days to get from there to Baldur's Gate. (Source) I can't recall anything being mentioned anywhere that anything like this was available, but if I'm wrong please lmk. Obviously, actual gameplay doesn't take this long, but I want to focus on what could actually be a realistic timeline. Think of any D&D campaign and you are gonna have fighting days, resting days, travel days, even shopping days. This is (sorta) reflected in game, but you can just play and play, and get thru everything in days frankly. I have spoken to a few people and some have said 1-2 months while others have said only like 2-3 weeks have passed. Which brings me to my next point: Weeks are separated into tendays (literally...10 days in a week). A month, is about 3 of those (with a few odd days tossed in through the year) which you can see in the image below. You'll notice that the events in BG3 take place just before Feast of the Moon (not important i guess, but interesting!) **more after the image**

So, if that's the case, that would put BG3 events taking place within a month's time, but even that seems short. There's so much to explore, so many people to help, etc etc. I had estimated (generously I'm sure) that each act took about 2-3 tendays each which would give us a roughly 2.5 to 3 month timespan. If this only goes for a 2-3 week span, then Gale is certainly rushing into the whole idea of marriage tbh lmao!! Like "babe, i know we have only dated for like a tenday, but marry me?" xD though, to be fair, even if we go for the 3 month (very generous) timespan bbygirl is still rushing into things, but I think we can give him a pass since they all fought for their lives and all lol. I just wanna get everyone's big lore dump info on this matter b/c I honestly wanna know, AND I am gonna use it to help time parts of my next fics. The timing is kinda important to help me plan things and also to make sure I am not doing some weird time dilation head canon shit that could mess everything up in the world LOL

If it's not getting tiresome would you mind reviewing the mynci? They've been my favorite since childhood

The Mynci is our only primate Neopet (not counting TNT staff, the freaks) and it's... alright. Honestly, I'm kind of amazed we only got a singular monkey Neopet for this category, considering how diverse primates are all-around—you have baboons, gorillas, monkeys, lemurs, etc. It's not a bad thing, but it's head-scratching compared to the number of dragons and birds we have.

As our only primate Neopet, the Mynci is about as literal as you could get with a monkey—long tail, big ears, snub nose (their most distinctive feature tbh) and what seems to be exposed flesh over their ears, face and stomach, down to even having a belly button. I feel like they're kind of like Lupes, being real animals, but they don't have as incredible as a selection of colours to support them like Lupes do.

I guess my main problem with them is that there's no fur indicated on their bodies, just two hairs on their heads, which always gave them this weird feeling of being bald. I feel like just a few small tufts of fur in the right spots would've helped avoid this. Their body shape is also pretty standard. Out of the designs that were voted on, I kind of gravitate towards Mynci #2 here, which both has more fur and a more interesting body shape, as well as a more obvious personality to it. (Though I will admit that #3 is the most Neopet-ish of them all.)

Mynci were basically left untouched by customization aside from gaining a fist, so that's a plus.

Favorite Colours:

Stealthy: Stealthy pets sometimes end up looking incredibly busy, with too many details and colors, but the stealthy Mynci gets it just right. I like the subtle dark green and gold palette used to accent the stealthy colour's natural navy and bright blue eyes, and little details like the stitch marks. I also love how the symbols on its headband and belt are clearly in the shape of a Mynci's nose. The only minor thing that bugs me is that those two hairs on top shouldn't be visible.

Royal: I have no idea why these are Shenkuu-based and I do not care (I guess it's because China has a fair amount of monkey species IRL?). Either way, these designs are super pretty, and work well eith the Mynci's design. Both the royalboy and royalgirl feel on par with each other, with both sporting long flowing robes (hanfu) and luck charms—the main difference being the color palettes and the royalboy having a beard and hat while the female has a headdress.

For the record, both versions are fine with the UCs obviously being better, though there are some weird things we lost in the conversion—like, what happened to the RB's beard and tail cuffs, and why did its eye color change? What happened to the RG's ring? Why did the grey in the RB's eyebrows get lighter? But regardless, these are still solid.

Toy: Come on, it's a symbol monkey! You can't not like it. The purple base is pleasant as well and goes well with the red and peach accents, and it looks nice and plastic-y. Bonus points for hiding the fist. (The eyes should've been purple or red though.)

Bonus: If you want something more ape-like and don't vibe with the Mynci's overall design, give the mutant version a spin. I really like the gorilla-like stance and anatomy, the more muted colors with bright red accents, and little details like the devil-shaped tail and extra fur. My only nitpick is that having both ears and horns feels weird—should be one or the other.

like. ok ive definitely spoken abt it offhand sometime before so im just going to use this opportunity to aimlessly ramble ok? ok. hyperfixation trap card.

like yeah theres the whole 'only having rep thats robots and aliens and etc' thing which is very much a fair and appropriate response, but also like. at a point you Do just kinda have to go 'Man Just Look At Her.'

i certainly couldnt say it as well as other folks, but... Man Just Look At Her. theres so many threads that are Literally Right There, its kinda hard Not to. id have to study again n cite my sources or whatever but also this is my house. ok.

like theres the obvious 'i see you as a friend' interaction with her and roland sometime mid-to-late ruina, which is. again. Its Right There. but its also the way she looks in lobcorp, and the instant she gets any agency she immediately veers in a completely different direction. (as a reclamation of self, as another small rebellion, as an exploration of how She would like to present herself and be seen)

its that interaction with xiao, her genuine confusion towards the concept of lovers, what they are, what makes it so different from any other sort of person. (as a jab towards her own isolation, the values she was made to uphold, her unfamiliarity towards cityfolk and the ways they carry themselves-- and that seeming contradiction of that affection vs. the way she was told cityfolk Work.)

angela, to me, feels like the type of character to simply Be. for lack of a better term. its a difficult concept to Describe in a way that makes sense, (despite me being, how do you say, In The Same Boat.) its something i could see her toss around out of curiosity, but honestly just... not really care for. she has things to do.

like... angela is just. a very cut and dry character, to put it in a way. she just kinda states things as they are, sometimes rather bluntly. its hard to elaborate because things simply Are. plain and simple, no need to fuss over it. and thats what this feels like itd be, yknow?

also iam just shrimply. forever an angela+roland qpr truther. tbh. like i dont know what the Hell those two have going on but you literally Cannot separate them. i hesitate to call it 'love,' because. well yes, but also no. but also kind of? but not quite. again, it just Is. they simply Are.

its one of those things that just feels Odd seeing her in any other context, in regards to romance or whatever. which is tied to a whole slew of other problems only tangentially related to the subject (shipping content bias, character simplification, and so on and so on,) but its just... man she would Not fucking say that. she would not Do that, she would not Act that way.

like i certainly believe it Is possible to have romantic interpretations with her, but its gonna be. Specific. with the way she carries herself, how she acts, and how she reacts to things. even with the romantic elements, itd still dip into aro experience territory, if you know what im saying. like whoever it is, this shit isnt going to fit into Roles and Archetypes, like how a lot of folks like to write ship content. for lack of a better descriptor, its gonna be Weird.

and thats honestly whats so frustrating about it! you Can have an interesting through-line and interpretation of that sort of thing, but a lot of the time whenever i (rarely) see it, its just... Typical Beauty Standards, Hot Secretary Lady, Scary Controlling Whatever the hell like... i hate t judge but cmon guys we can do so much better than that. ironically, wheres the Love? the respect for who she is, the curiosity on exploring that sort of thing with who she Is? guys come On...

which. grain of salt, because its not like i search out ship content, yknow. im not gonna speak like an authority for stumbling onto stuff sometimes. the fact that it isnt so popular and in-your-face is genuinely refreshing honestly, but. tangent.

Notes on the Andy Warhol Decision

Sometimes people ask me about big fair use decisions that come down, but nobody really asked me about this one, which made me wonder if everyone in fandom just collectively shrugged at it, which, I don't blame you, tbh.

I have to confess that I didn't read the decision when it came out because sometimes I just don't feel like it, but I have now read it and if anyone was curious about what it is, I figured I'd write up a little something.

Here's the deal: Lynn Goldsmith was a photographer, largely of icons of music, who took a photograph of Prince many years ago. Also many years ago, Vanity Fair wanted Andy Warhol to make an Andy Warhol print of Prince (really no other way to describe the print, it's just the Andy Warhol style). Andy Warhol wanted to start with a reference photo, so Vanity Fair contacted Goldsmith and licensed her photo of Prince for use. The terms of the license basically just said that Vanity Fair could only use the photo the one time.

Fast-forward to Prince dying and Vanity Fair runs ANOTHER Andy Warhol image of Prince based on the Goldsmith photo, because it turned out Andy Warhol made a bunch of prints based on the photo which Goldsmith didn't know about. Now the license didn't cover these other prints and uses, because by its terms it was very limited. So Goldsmith called up the Andy Warhol Foundation and was like, "Yo, the license didn't cover this, so you are infringing on my copyright in my photograph." (This is the effect of not being covered by a license.) And the Andy Warhol Foundation was basically like, "Nuh-uh," and they went to court and asked a court to say that they weren't infringing Goldsmith's copyright and Goldsmith is wrong SO THERE! (This is honestly basically what a declaratory judgment is ["You're wrong, SO THERE!"] and please use this definition if anyone ever asks you what a declaratory judgment is.)

Here is the photo at issue and the Andy Warhol print of it:

Okay, so I think you can see the issue in the case pretty clearly, right? Like, those two things look very like each other, I think everyone would agree.

Here's the problem with this case: I don't actually think it's really a fair use case and it annoys me that that's where we ended up. Because fair use is a DEFENSE to copyright infringement. What that means is that there has to be copyright infringement first. Copyright infringement means that the sued-upon work is substantially similar to the first work in something that is copyrightable (original to that creator). Fair use is only relevant once a court has decided you've created something substantially similar to something that someone else owns. Courts often just skip straight to fair use, though, which is a VERY ANNOYING HABIT because it muddies everything up, and the parties complicated it here in this case by only appealing one very narrow issue: Is the Andy Warhol print transformative? Which is one of the fair use factors.

Because that was the only issue before the Supreme Court, that's the only issue the Supreme Court decided (this is technically what the Supreme Court is supposed to do but like most things Supreme Court these days, one never knows what the Supreme Court might do). But it irritates me because I'm not sure this actually IS copyright infringement. I think it seems substantially similar, probably, but I'm not sure it's similar in anything that is COPYRIGHTABLE by Goldsmith, meaning anything that Goldsmith can own. By which I mean, maybe these two images are only similar because they both look like Prince, and nobody can own what Prince looks like (not even Prince). I think this is an interesting point for debate and I could see it coming out either way but we get zero discussion of this because it's not what the parties asked for analysis on. And that's annoying because there's a Kagan dissent in this case (Kagan disagreed with the majority opinion) that is basically all THIS DECISION WILL DESTROY ALL CREATIVITY, EVERYTHING WILL NOW BE COPYRIGHT INFRINGING, and I get where Kagan is coming from but that's only because this decision didn't actually get to decide copyright infringement. Like, it starts from this assumption that this is infringing unless fair use saves it, and then the majority doesn't let fair use save it, and so the dissent is like, THEREFORE EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE INFRINGING. But the analysis is in the wrong spot here! Anyway, I hope that makes sense, I'm a little in the weeds here.

The opinion of the Supreme Court was that the Andy Warhol print was not transformative, which is a big deal word in fair use law. Basically, if you are found to be transformative, you win your fair use case. And if you're not transformative, you don't always lose but you have a greater chance of losing. So a lot of the energy in a fair use case is around this transformativeness analysis (this is why AO3's parent org is called the Organization for Transformative Works).

What the Supreme Court basically says is that the first factor (which we have shortened to transformativeness) is "the purpose and character of the use." The Supreme Court says basically that there are two parts to this, as you can see: purpose and character. So it seems like Andy Warhol has changed up the original photograph and so maybe has a different message (art critics argued this vociferously) but the purpose of the Andy Warhol print in this context was the same as the purpose of the original photograph. In other words, this is not a case about this Andy Warhol print in a museum. This is a case about this Andy Warhol print being used by a magazine for the same purpose that the magazine would have licensed Goldsmith's original photo: to illustrate an article about Prince. This made all the difference to the Supreme Court.

A lot of the commentary about this case found this to be an outrageous conclusion for some reason. I'm not bothered by it, but I suspect that's because I come from fandom circles. To me, I am not confused by the idea that my fanfiction is transformative if non-commercial, but not transformative if its purpose shifts to be the same purpose as the original (to make money). I mean, I'm not entirely sure I agree that it would automatically be infringing if turned commercial, but I get why the different purpose makes a difference to my analysis of what's happening there. So I was a little bewildered by people who found it ridiculous to conclude that a use could be fair use for one purpose and not fair use for another purpose. I'm okay with that. I don't think it's destructive of fair use to say that, Idk. It's maybe a little destructive of commercial fair use, and that might grow to be problematic, but I don't think the opinion is attempting to be that broad. Although it could be broadly read. I just think the opinion is meant to say "don't forget that it's not just about the new message, it's also about the purpose that message is being used for, and those two things need to be balanced." At least, that's what I think it's saying. It's not just what the work is, but also how the work is being used.

One thing I have to say and that I have long thought is that copyright law and trademark law and many other types of law tie themselves into knots to protect Andy Warhol, and I feel like this is the first opinion I've read that...doesn't. But, look, this case would not be where it is today if the Andy Warhol print didn't so very obviously use the Goldsmith photo, and this case also would not be where it is today if the person using the photo hadn't been Andy Warhol. Like, I can't shake the idea that if any other average human had taken the Goldsmith photo, done that to it, and sold it to Vanity Fair, courts would have found this an easy infringement case, but because it was Andy Warhol it made courts uncomfortable to say that. The opinion that the Supreme Court affirmed (the Second Circuit opinion all of this) said basically that: We cannot have an Andy Warhol exception to copyright law. Andy Warhol could have used the photo for inspiration, for reference for what Prince looked like, to get ideas, and still come up with something that looked completely different (even if it still looked like Prince - there are a million photos of Prince that are all different even though they all look like Prince), and we wouldn't have a case here.

I just think about this case as compared to "Oh, the Places You'll Boldly Go," a case in which people took the Dr. Seuss book "Oh, the Places You'll Go" and remade it for Star Trek. They kept the basic message of the book (a problem for transformativeness analysis) but they changed all the artwork to be about Star Trek (although keeping the Dr. Seuss "style," as distinct as Andy Warhol's) and they also changed the words to be about Star Trek, while keeping the distinctive Dr. Seuss "style" there, too. You can have the book read to you here. Anyway, while agreeing that no one can own a particular "style," the appellate court in the case (the Ninth Circuit) was like, "This is not transformative, this is copyright infringement and not fair use." And I'm not saying that decision's wrong, but if something could be changed that much and not be considered to be fair use, to me it makes sense that the Andy Warhol print also wouldn't be fair use, Idk.

ANYWAY. These are my musings! Lots of people disagree about the outcome of this case and what it means! I think there wasn't a huge fan ripple reaction from it because I don't think it means much of anything in terms of fair use as applied to fandom. Again, I think it's a much bigger deal in the commercial fair use world, which frankly has always been a complicated mess. (Also it revives the parody/satire distinction, which is nonsensical, but no reason to get into that now lol.)

Hi! I completely agree with your answer especially about people assuming that every discrepancy is due to Louis' unreliable narration. I know that Rolin said that s2 will change our perspective on s1 and that the DV scene and the murder will be revisited, but I don't think it automatically means that what we saw in 7 episodes will be thrown away, like so many people believe. It wouldn't make sense imo. What do you think?

I am also very much not a fan of how some amc iwtv fans treat unreliable narration like a magical retcon device. To be fair, Anne Rice treated unreliable narration like a magical retcon device too, but I had the optimism to assume that we were all in agreement that since the show writers have the power of hindsight they wouldn’t feel the need to do that.

But anyways yeah, it would absolutely not make sense for Louis to be lying about the dv. The great thing about unreliable narration is that even when the narrator is lying, the lie reveals to us something interesting about the narrator. What would pretending to be a victim of dv reveal about Louis? Ig that he likes to victimize himself or has some reason to demonize Lestat, but neither of those traits would align with what we know about Louis in the books and in the show. There are things in the books that Louis was revealed to have made up in iwtv, but specifically to make his history with Lestat appear less tumultuous and more clean cut. Like how he lied about not being in love with Lestat so that their conflict would seem less personal and painful, or how he lied about meeting Lestat again in the 20th century and received some catharsis after everything. Neither of these are in anyway indicative of a person who would lie about being beaten by their partner. Then, it makes even less sense for what we know of show Louis. Louis in the show is very explicitly averse to being seen as a victim, and he actively makes an effort to excuse Lestat’s actions and paint their relationship in a way that is less fucked up then it really was.

I suppose if they wanted to have a twist where Louis was actually a complete fraud and everything we thought we knew about him was a lie, then they could go the dv was a lie route and have it make sense. But that would arguably be worse. Louis is a character many people love and identify with, show and book alike, and painting him that way would be out of character and definitely get severe push back. Louis is extremely flawed (esp in the books) which I love about him, but not in that way. Not even to mention the offensive real life implications of having a character lie about dv in such a way, especially after showing the violence in such graphic detail.

Some people have the theory that Armand is manipulating Louis to lie, or putting false memories in his head, and I think this is a direction they’re more likely to go in over Louis lying knowingly, but that doesn’t mean I like it. This would be very simplistic and dumb imo, the the only thing it would tell us about these characters is “Armand bad”, and it would inevitably frame Armand as the big bad of this arc, which I rlly don’t like. Armand assumes the villain role in the first 2 books, and does have the capacity to pull this off with his very strong mind powers, but doing smth like this is so vastly out of character that I can’t fathom a way the writers could pull it off without making my skin itch, as a rabid armand fan. They’d have to fundamentally alter his relationship with not just Lestat but Louis and Daniel too, not to mention I have no idea what his motive would be, and that’s saying smth considering I love dissecting Armand’s mind.

Honestly I don’t know how they are going to go forward with the dv, and how they plan to change our minds, I have no predictions that I’d be happy with happening. Tbh I just wish the dv didn’t happen, bcus I can’t see anyway that it would be meaningful to the story being told or the characters I love.

I think I’ll go ahead and come off of anon xD. Mostly cause I have thoughts and would like to have someone to talk to lol.

Tbh, my emphasis on her fatal flaw being self sacrifice is probably a bit of a knee jerk reaction to how it tends to be portrayed in the fandom at large. ‘Cause it seems a common thing to portray her hubris as arrogance and I don’t think she’s very arrogant at all.

If I remember correctly she never really tries to place herself above anyone else. Heck, at the end of TLO she says that Percy saved the world and he corrects it to “us”. She’s even the first person to give credit to Tyson at the of SOM.

How it does manifest the majority of the time tho (at least in my opinion) is via reckless overconfidence. There are 3 instances which are usually used as examples to her nearly dying from her fatal flaw. The sirens, the sphinx, and Arachne. Of those the ones that are more overtly arrogance are the the latter two (tho I personally hesitate to include the sphinx because the dialogue to me sounds more like she’s having a neurodivergent breakdown but that’s another discussion). Everything else tho? The sirens, the manticore, the sky, the helicopter, fighting after getting stabbed, etc? Heck, volunteering for quests in general? Either reckless overconfidence or her just moving without thinking in defense of someone else.

TLDR, it’s not that I think she isn’t prideful, I just think she’s more likely to die to protect someone else.

Also, I think it’s kinda funny you say she’s not one to forgive when I personally think she’s one of the most forgiving people in the series. She forgives Luke and her dad, after all, even if, as you said, she never quite forgets. The only exception is probably Hera, which, I mean, is fair xD

oh my GOD i love this!!! completely agree on her pride manifesting as reckless overconfidence, it's very much a sense of "i could do it and i could do it BETTER" that reminds me of the sirens' vision she had in the sea of monsters. honestly, her explanation of it hits the nail on the head - i think she says something along the lines of "but sometimes you just see the bad stuff/what if i could take everything down and rebuild it from scratch' which is so interesting to me!! i've said this before about her more emotional reactions, but annabeth, the supposed 'logical one', acts more on raw emotion than just about anyone. she gets angry and mad and JEALOUS, and she doesn't even attempt to hide it - that's what contributes to the way i write annabeth, which is pretty much as an emotional disaster. i love her so much

GOOD CATCH on her being forgiving; i really do think ive been confusing canon!annabeth with the version i have in my head?? either way, thank you for reminding me! annabeth is better than me frfr

i'd love to see what you've written, or if you ever get around to writing for pjo! i understand writing ruts, and i wish i had more advice on how to get those good ol' creative juices flowing, but all i can say for now is: don't force it. when you get into the mood, the words will f l o w.

UMMM WELL- I'll put my thoughts on Romance Doll under a break at the end because the movie is pretty nsfw and weird and yeah...

Quartet is on my list! I'm definitely going to watch it at some point, but I also really wanna watch Miracles! Honestly that one has been the most interesting to me from the beginning but my adhd is just causing me to watch whatever's convenient first, not the ONE IVE REALLY WANTED TO WATCH THIS WHOLE TIME. I still have to finish Koisenu Futari too... I stopped that one cuz I was watching it with someone and we had a long period of time where we couldn't watch it. And then also it's just VERY HEAVY as a person who happens to be demi who has gone through periods of feeling like I could be aroace in the past. It's so realistic and deals with the painful things as well as the funny things and I am scared to finish it bc I KNOW THERES MORE HEAVY SHIT TO COME but it's an amazing show AND I DO WANT TO FINISH THAT ONE TOO.

And on a completely polar opposite note: ROMANCE DOLL, LMAO

Ok so, this movie is very much one of those WEIRDLY REALISTIC stories where all the characters are so real and flawed and HUGE MISTAKES ARE MADE by characters and it's just such a wild ride. You probably haven't heard about it because its FUCKING WACK.

Without giving too much away in case you wanna watch it (netflix dropped it last monday, which is actually why I ended up watching it over the weekend at all, but it's still available to rent on amazon 🙄) Issey plays Tetsuo, an unemployed art college grad who is desperate for a job. His friend gave him a tip about this sketchy job opening but told him literally nothing else about it. He shows up and this old woman greets him and shows him around and he's a bit shocked to find out it's a shop that makes SILICONE SEX DOLLS. The woman is like "your friend didn't tell you that???" And Tetsuo was like "he literally just said there was a job here-" and she laughs and says "Some friend he is then!" Honestly I loved the old lady she's great, I wish I could remember her name I'm too lazy to go look it up rn.

Anyway so yeah, he takes the job even though the interview was super awkward and there's this gross pervy old guy who works there and he doesn't really care about the subject matter he just needs money (mood)

One thing and another happens (and a lot of me wanting to slap the old man into next tuesday, seriously he's the worst) and a little bit later Tetsuo meets the love of his life through some bullshit connection to his job, and they end up getting married some time after, but she doesn't know what he does for a living and ITS ALL VERY HARD TO EXPLAIN WHY HE KEEPS THAT FROM HER without spoiling things but just- the movie is wack, I really didn't like it in the beginning but it pulls a complete 180 and ends up being this weirdly emotional and AT TIMES, a holesome wholesome slice of life movie??

Don't get me wrong it doesn't sugarcoat things like objectification of women and there's some degree of realistic portrayal of that bc of the whole Tetsuo working at a sex doll shop thing, it is very true to life- how men can be gross even if they aren't going so far as assaulting anyone. It doesn't excuse it either it just presents it as it is, which is good I think. But then there are OTHER moments where the movie is very sex positive- so its a wild fucking trip tbh. Definitely don't watch it if you have sensitivities to the things I mentioned above bc bro omg the first half almost had me like "yeah I can't watch this" a couple times jfc.

BASICALLY by the end of the movie the message is that communication and being open with people you love (and not getting bogged down with anxiety and guilt) is important, because on top of not being fair to the people who are important to you, hiding things from them can eat you up inside and make you act irrationally and hurt them even more whether you realize it or not. And also, you never know how someone will feel about the things you don't want to tell them. Something that could be huge to you could be no big deal to another.

Its just a very interesting movie. I don't know if I'd recommend it, theres some NUCLEAR SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT CRINGE MOMENTS like oh my god i wanted to die- and like I said above, there's lots of intense subject matter and some not so pretty moments that a lot of people may want to avoid. Id for sure check one of those sites that gives content warnings before watching bc hoo boy...

But all that aside, once again Issey is an incredible actor and his range is apparent in this movie. I saw some like- borderline SLAPSTICK physical comedy moments that had me so surprised bc he did them so well but its so new and different from anything else ive watched him star in. Dude is just unstoppable tbh. He HAS 👏 THE 👏 RANGE!! 👏

Also you get to see him naked a lot. So there's that!

I also love that Unar is a cop cause it adds so much to the activism and conflict of trying to make change from within a system or choosing to work from outside it. Which is really one of the big reasons I like the show, it explores all the challenges of activism and how different types of activism all have pros and cons. Someone on reddit descibe the show as being "political but intimate" which I think sums it up quite well.

Namo is one of my favourites, I'm pretty sure she's Seans ex? their relationship is honestly really ambiguous.

Really interesting that you don't like Todd, though to be fair he is rich (in contrast to Blacks gang) which is immediate bad vibes.

OH THIS IS SUCH AN INTERESTING QUESTION!!!!! let's see....

1. last twilight. JIMMYSEA + P’AOF + A STORY ABOUT A DISABLED CHARACTER DO I NEED TO SAY MORE. i mean i could and i would but you don’t want me to go down that rabbit hole, trust me. even pushing my own personal bias to the side, this looks like it's gonna be a mature story with fantastic direction and cinematography, and if done right it could also give a very powerful message about disability, so i have insanely high hopes for it and im gonna be SO ANNOYING when the show finally airs (yes even more than i already am).

2. wish you luck. im not sure we’re actually getting this in 2023 or at all tbh, but god knows i desperately need it because 1) tonnam FINALLY as the main character in a BL, it’s what my boy deserves so please make it happen, and 2) [CHANTS] SCI-FI BL SCI-FI BL SCI-FI BL!!!!!! i enjoy it immensely when BLs try to get plotty and ambitious and innovative, and the trailer seems to have a pretty good production and fantastic cinematography. it honestly has so much potential AND I WANT IT SO BADLY.

3. wish me luck. this looks like a very classic office romance and i do personally tend to enjoy those, but the real reason why im more excited for this one compared to all the other office BLs we’re getting this year (a boss and a babe, cherry magic thai, step by step, etc.) is that i ADORE both fiat and na and i can’t wait to see them together as the main characters in a BL. in the category of office romance it's also the trailer that convinced me the most out of all of them, like the vibes are just [chef's kiss] immaculate. 4. dangerous romance. to be fair i could have honestly put any other gmmtv BL here because im very excited for all of them, however after seeing perth and chimon in never let me go my interest in this one has skyrocketed, which is very surprising to me considering it's an highschool BL, but this is what great actors with great chemistry can do to a woman. the plot isn't particularly groundbreaking but at the same time the trailer is really compelling and i like that the show will probably deal with more serious topics, so im very much here for it.

5. the next prince. to be completely honest im not that big of a fan of zeenunew (or dumundi in general actually), however this show looks like all my teenage dreams coming true and unfortunately i am very weak for it. i grew up with movies like ‘princess diaries’, ‘the prince and me’, ‘what a girl wants’, and so many other hallmark christmas movies about modern royalty, all the while wishing there could be a queer alternative for those, which in the years also made me read all the possible royalty AU fics i could find for my ships. so not only domundi is playing with all my hopes and dreams, but they also gave me fencing and ballroom dancing and love vs duty. this is most likely going to be pushed to 2024 and im not sure domundi will be able to actually deliver (at least plot-wise), but despite my better judgement i am embarassingly excited for this one.

A/N: Finally got the motivation to write more of these two, hope you all like it. I've been wanting to write jealous Caitlyn for a while tbh.

Caitlyn Kiramman wasn’t jealous. She wasn’t angry. She was fucking pissed off, fuming, shooting daggers instead of bullets. This was supposed to be a fun party, a time to relax and unwind. That was the plan.

“If you stare any harder you’re actually gonna burn a hole though them.” Jayce sidestepped next to Caitlyn, “Champagne?” He offered, amused.

“No thank you.” Caitlyn barely spared him a glance before her eyes were fixed back on Vi.

Vi with her hair slightly slicked back but still so damn messy and falling over her eyes. Vi, in her suit with her sleeves ripped off, showing her damn biceps and tattoos. Vi who smiled at the girls practically drooling over her like dogs in heat.

And why was Vi enjoying the attention? Smiling at all of them like that, entertaining them. Caitlyn was in her fair share of relationships before, some of them were flings others more serious, but none of those girls made her feel as strong about them as Vi. Vi was special, she was precious to Caitlyn. So Caitlyn decided to do the only sensible thing. Assert her dominance.

“Don’t break any necks and keep your cool. That’s how Mel and I ended up together.” He nodded to himself, looking very pleased with himself.

“Oh please. Mel told me all about it. If she didn’t make the first move you’d still be dancing around each other. Even Viktor was sick if it all. And she also told me that her mom made you shake in your boots.” Caitlyn smirked at him, remembering how embarrassed he got when Mel mentioned that incident.

”Ah, excuse me, have you seen Mel’s mother? The woman could probably crush my head with her fist. And I could have made the first move, I was only being a gentleman.” Jayce crossed his arms over his chest, a small puppy-like pout on his face as he looked down at his friend. Caitlyn chuckled, she didn’t buy that for a second, but she didn’t have time to listen to Jayce trying to save his ego, she had a lot more important things to do.

With brisk pace she marched herself to Vi, who was still surrounded by a group of increasingly flirty women.

“Vi.” Her stern voice got Vi’s attention and the attention of everyone around her. By now the people of Piltover knew her as the new Sheriff and for the most part treated her as such.

But there were still a few who only regarded her as the ‘rich Kiramman girl’ while they looked at Vi as some novelty, something unusual, a Zaunite who somehow made became an Enforcer. The girls around Vi though, it was very obvious what they were after with Vi. Caitlyn has seen that look many times before. Sometimes she was looked at in that way, Vi looked at her that way, and Caitlyn looked at Vi that same way.

Caitlyn wasn’t stupid. Vi was hot, of course women would be interested in her. Which is why she needed to make things clear for them.

Her arm looped around Vi’s while her other hand came to rest on the brawler’s bicep. She didn’t miss the way Vi blushed when she squeezed, or the way the women glared at her for doing so. It was honestly adorable how she could make Vi flustered with the faintest of gestures.

“Yeah? What’s up?” Vi tilted her head towards her in that adorable way that made Caitlyn want to kiss her right there and then. That would surely be one way to show everyone that Vi wasn’t available, but that seemed a little flashy.

“As much as I hate to break up the fun you’re having, we have paperwork tomorrow and I would appreciate it if you’d accompany be back to our apartment so we could get some sleep.” She made sure to look at the group of women as she said the word ‘our’.

“Huh? Don’t we have a late day tomorrow? I though you said you wanted the morning free to-”

“Paperwork Vi. On my desk.” Caitlyn lightly squeezed Vi’s arm, further emphasizing her intentions.

“Oh.” Caitlyn could see the wheels turning and things finally clicking in Vi’s brain when her eyes widened, “Oh! The paperwork. Fuck, I mean uh… yeah, now I remember. We should definitely go and sleep. So we can do the paperwork.” Vi took Caitlyn by the hand, waived and winked at the group of ladies and almost bolted towards the door.

The moment the two were in their apartment Vi went right in for a kiss, she tried to push Caitlyn to the nearby wall only to have Caitlyn grab her by the tie and pull her toward the bedroom.

“Feisty tonight are we?” Not that Vi was gonna complain, she loved bossy Caitlyn. Usually she hated taking orders from anyone, Caitlyn was her one exception. But it didn’t seem like Caitlyn was in a joking mood. “Cupcake?”

Caitlyn merely glanced back at her and tugged harder, making Vi stumble forward, just managing not to collide with Caitlyn when she stopped to open the door.

Caitlyn’s hands were everywhere she could grab, untucking Vi’s shirt from her pants, hands furiously working to unbutton it and slide her hands across Vi’s abs. Just as Vi was about to go in for a kiss she found herself pushed back and landing onto her back, her shirt hanging off her shoulder, just enough to expose her breast.

Hot, needy, eager mouth was on her neck before she could offer any sort of remark. A gasp left her throat, her hands grasping Caitlyn’s perfect hips that straddled her as she tugged on her tie once more.

“Caitlyn?” Vi was torn between grinding up against her and remaining strong. With great effort she decided to be strong, “Babe stop for a second.” Caitlyn was pushed back with a whine, her hand cupping Vi’s breast as their eyes met. There was lust there to be sure, but also something more. Something that Vi hasn’t seen before.

“I want you, please Vi.” Caitlyn’s voice was trembling slightly, her hands shaking as she dragged them over Vi’s muscles.

Vi frowned, “Something’s bothering you isn’t it?” Vi took Caitlyn’s hands in her own, her thumbs rubbing Caitlyn’s knuckles as she brought her fingers to her lips, kissing each one, “You know you can talk to me right? No matter what it is. I’m here.”

A heavy sigh left Caitlyn’s mouth, she turned her head to the side for a moment, vulnerability shining though in her eyes as she turned them back to Vi.

“I don’t like how they were behaving around you.” Vi’s frown deepened, her head tilting to the side like a little confused puppy. Damn. Hot, handsome and cute, how did Caitlyn even get so lucky. “Those women you were talking to. They kept crowding you and drooling over and flirting with you, I didn’t like it Vi.”

Vi blinked quickly, her brain processing Caitlyn’s words, “Hold on, hold the fuck on.” She couldn’t help the grin from appearing on her lips, “Were you jealous?”

Caitlyn bit her bottom lip, her hands cupping Vi’s cheeks, thumbing over her tattoo, “Yes.”

“Oh. Wow. I uh… I didn’t expect you to just… ok. I never thought you would be.” Vi chuckled, “If anything I thought I’d have to beat back everyone else away from you. I didn’t even realize they were coming on to me.” Looking back on it now Vi couldn’t help but blush from it all, “I’m not used to that sort of attention. Well other than from you. I really like it when it’s from you.” Vi leaned up to press her lips against Caitlyn’s, her eyes closing on contact, Caitlyn’s following suit.

Vi’s hand tangled into Caitlyn’s hair, tilting her head to the side, deepening the kiss, trying to pour all her desire and love into the kiss.

“I didn’t even notice they were flirting. Do you know why?” Vi sucked on Caitlyn’s tongue as she pulled away, getting a sweet moan in return, “It’s because I only have eyes for you Cait.”

Caitlyn kissed her again in response, softly nibbling on Vi’s upper lips, her tongue gently licking over the lip scar, “That’s very flattering darling. But you don’t seem to realize how fucking attractive you are.” Caitlyn took Vi’s hand and guided it beneath her dress, the both of them moaning as Vi’s fingers came into contact with the wetness there.

If I am guessing your cryptic question right, stonathan or steddie? Which one do I prefer? See more chemistry in? Is that it?

I saw more chemistry between Steddie honestly. Maybe because Eddie was openly flirty and Steve was flustered most of the time around him.

Stonathan - I don't see the chemistry that much because Jon did beat him up for insulting his family and him. Even though Steve came to apologise, it was more like a formality rather than a stepping stone to friendship. They could have been friends, but they didn't. For Jon, Steve is an immature idiot that he fought one time.

I have read one Stonathan fic and I couldn't see the chemistry there. It was a nice fic, but the chemistry was missing, I felt. But the Steddie fics have chemistry.

Jon honestly has more chemistry with Argyle than Steve.

that's fair. s1 jonathan and steve are works in progress for sure and then they drift apart again as their connections to nancy change. i do think that jancy's talk at the end can be interpreted as a hint that they'll interact again though, allowing jonathan to see firsthand what nancy meant, so maaaaaybe smth of some sort will happen there? who knows lol.

but! i do think that the apology was more than a formality. steve was really intent on going over there and making things right, he really felt like he'd fucked up and he wasn't expecting nancy to be there. he went for jonathan and really wanted to make things right with him. there was a desperate kind of sincerity there i felt in joe's portrayal. and then he seemed really pleased when jonathan received his gift later on! so, like. yk. i think jonathan's the one holding more resentment / preconceived notions than steve rn, which is understandable considering he doesn't know him like that, and why i think they planted tht seed i mentioned at the end there. there could still be more to them and i think there likely is!

tbh though i feel like i'd need more scenes with them to be able to say anything abt their chemistry on-screen. i get more ✨⚡️ from steve for those reasons tht i mentioned than i do jonathan rn. jonathan has had his defenses up too high n been too cold thus far, n charlie really sells tht n jon's trust issues lol. maybe it'll change in s5, maybe it won't.

as for steddie... i feel like you can say some of the same things? they became kind of friends towards the end there because eddie went to go save him and they had that little bonding moment where eddie opened up to him and got in his good graces. also... i feel like eddie's actions can be taken that way, but he's also a touchy-feely invades-your-personal-space kind of dude with other characters too. and i didn't really feel any electricity or interest there from steve's side, kind of the opposite of the stonathan situation. like joe wasn't leaning into what people believe joseph was.

it felt like interactions between a heroic jock who aggravatingly really is more than what people say and a freak who's had to puff his chest up n act tougher than he really is to survive, and how they navigate that as young men. like actually tough vs pretends to be. and there's a a kind of sheepishness on eddie's side where the freak who talks abt how others are so quick to judge n be hostile is now being saved n helped n treated well by someone tht he did all of tht to, this kind of ... ingratiating n dare i say submissive mannerisms tht i think ppl read as just flirting.

and then steve's mostly just there, taking this in and occupying the same space as him, more focused on the others, but still wanting to be nice n give his thanks bc he's just that guy n does it with everyone. he's chuffed tht eddie's blowing smoke up his ass, but i don't view him as being bewitched. when did you find steve to be flustered? i'd like to go back and watch, maybe i'll see it this time :)

jargyle my beloved 💚 i think it helps tht argyle is jonathan's friend, so there's naturally going to be this easygoing flow between them tht wouldn't be present in his scenes with steve. i think they play off each other wonderfully, but.. hm. idk. there's chemistry yes bc they definitely sell that safe harbor you're my only friend ride or die kind of relationship, but it's not like ... tht Charged kind of chemistry, if tht makes sense?

I wanted to ask; do u think it's a damaging or not exactly healthy behavior when so many people disregard Gojo's behavior towards Utahime, Ijichi and anyone else he disrespects as a harmless joking around and how they just treat Utahime as a tsundere? I can see Gojo respecting her professionally but personally not one bit, and she obviously has every right to be averse to him.

Regardless, i find it concerning when someone says if you dislike the ship, u have a shit understanding of Gojo's character like whaat?

to be fair; Gojo is generally a really annoying and obnoxious person. so it's kind of realistic that reserved people like Ichiji and disciplined people like Utahime can't deal with him; he's just. Too Much. obviously half of the time their reactions are written off as gags so i cant say super much to that.

honestly. i do not care for Gojohime. i dont see it. as you said, Gojo doesnt seem to have a lot of respect for her personally which is why he's so obnoxious half of the time. its kind of sad that many reduce Utahime to just his shipping fodder instead of, yknow, expanding her beyond having to be someone's girlfriend. i think Utahime is a very driven, kind-hearted and brave person as seen during the Exchange Event. she's run off to help her students which i ADORE her for bc it shows she has a lot of care for them!! in general, Utahime is actually super interesting bc of her standing as a woman within the jujutsu society; i would love to see more of her and expand her background. how did she get her scar? how did she deal with the rigid structures of the jujutsu society? what's her cursed technique? does she have a domain expansion? labelling her as just a tsundere is kind of disservice to her tbh but conisdering we see so little of her, im not surprised that she's been reduced to a one-dimensional being only used to pair up with characters she has barely any chemistry with.

also LMAO i do not trust that last statement like if people really say that, i bet you those are also the people who claim Gojo has a god complex KJHDBJDDBJK–

i’ve honestly always wholeheartedly adored kirby tbh. i’ll never forget seeing scream 4 at a formative age and wanting to be just half as cool as her so bad lmaoo. i don’t know if this is really related at all but i think at least in 4, she was a little more flawed as a person than some people really pick up on. and i think those flaws genuinely make her a more interesting character. she’s a little rude, blunt, callous, whatever. doesn’t outwardly care too much about her friend getting brutally murdered right in front of her. still goes to stab-a-thon, has a good time, flirts with charlie, hosts an after party, brags about her movie knowledge. which good for her with the last one ❤️ but she does come off a little self involved. she’s also a teenager so. fair enough. but she obviously has a lot of good moments as well. she seems to care deeply for jill and shows a lot of courage, heart, and vulnerability in that final scene trying to save charlie’s life. she wasn’t perfect and that’s what makes her pretty compelling to me. i think mindy shares a lot of these qualities as well but she didn’t really get a heart and vulnerability moment like kirby did with the trying to save charlie debacle. i feel like she’ll be getting one in 6 though, not gonna lie. idk but i do love them both and i’m excited to see them again <3

and to be fair, as self-involved and blunt as she comes across, uh, even kirby's more callous lines don't compare to robbie tbh. iirc like, olivia's body is barely cold and he refers to her as "the girl who'll now never date me," or if not that exactly, something to the effect of it (now i have to re-watch scre4m yet again). like. fuck man.

also when kirby tried to save charlie (as far as she knew) and started shakily rattling off whatever remake come to mind, hayden panettiere's performance was so raw and compelling that on the first watch i didn't even realize it's supposed to be the film taking a crack at how derivative and lazy so many remakes are!! the commentary totally flew over my head bc i was so wrapped up in her urgency and desperation.

although my favorite kirby moment will always be when she yells at trevor after her interrupts her and charlie. her face is a whole mood, i swear if this movie had come out a handful of years later than it did kirby prolly would've become a reaction gif. 😂

and mindy! yes, ofc i adore mindy. and she is similarly kind of harsh. like when she refuses to go with richie to the basement and he goes alone and like, as soon as the door shuts behind him she's all, "well he's dead," and shoves her hand in a bag of chips. LMAO. to be fair tho, to be fair richie is irritating af and that prolly would've been my reaction too. anonymoose friend, i am sorry if u like richie but he just aggravates me, personally, he was getting on my nerves the whole movie.

i do feel we'll be getting more vulnerability from mindy come scream vi tho, more development for her character in general. jasmin savoy brown has the range!!! and already the super bowl ad heavily suggests her girlfriend is going to get killed.

i keep re-watching it (and all the other ads, ngl) trying to work out the mechanics of that scene.

it looks like anika is already wounded? she's covered in blood. yes, it could be someone else's blood but i'm thinking it's hers bc in the one shot it looks like mindy is helping her on the floor? it's blink-and-miss-it, but it's there, for the life of me tho, which trailer or tv spot was it in?? i don't remember, they're all blurring together. but also it seems that mindy gets on the ladder before anika does, that she's left her in the bloody bedroom (quinn's bedroom?) and that makes me wonder if the plan is for mindy to go first bc anika could potentially successfully play dead if ghostface enters the room, given that she's already injured. if that is the plan it clearly doesn't work, but. still.

anyway, yes, i love kirby and mindy and i'm very excited to see them both again and hopefully we'll get some good interactions between them too!!

Ok the dance on its own would be a gruesome yet interesting story to watch, Rhaenyra is certainly a different character to how most sane readers would read the Dany of the first books. But S8 told the public her character was ultimately an evil ruler who massacred innocents to 'rule with fear". So the overwhelming majority will just see a similar narrative repeat and certainly connect those characters/outcomes. In the context made by HBO the Dance becomes a 'doubling down' by default. 1)

And personally, I can't really think of any way the people behind the decision to go for Rhaenyra/The Dance didn't see that at all, it actually seems quite deliberate to me. So tbh, fuck everyone, and I MEAN everyone involved with this who thought this would be a great idea; a great story to tell now lol. 2)

Er… I mean I think it could go either way honestly? I agree that Rhaenyra, at least how GRRM presents her in F&B, is closer to how Dany antis think of Dany, y’know, as “spoiled” and “cruel with the people who don’t agree with her” than how Dany actually is in canon, which we know is the opposite. Honestly I don’t even think Rhaenyra behaved with any more cruelty than the rest of her peers during the Dance, at least not until after the paranoia had truly settled in her and she lost almost all of her children and was betrayed multiple times. Overall Rhaenyra only ever really fought for her rights and that of her children, which again should not be considered as this unforgivable sin because almost everyone else is kinda the same :/

And I understand how Rhaenyra’s ending can be compared to Dany’s in the sense that both of them are women claimants to the Iron Throne who were betrayed and killed by their male relatives, but I also think that the circumstances in which it happened are completely different. The tragedy with Rhaenyra is that ultimately she “wins” because her line does end up in the Iron Throne, but the claim of her surviving sons doesn’t come through her but through Daemon, and it effectively ends any chance of a future female Targaryen to ascend the throne. Some of those same themes of misogyny and sexism exist in Dany’s story undoubtedly, but I also think that her story has so many additional themes and it is “bigger” so to speak.

I mentioned in my original post how Rhaenyra is very different from Dany, like for example how, when given the possibility of giving two lordships to female claimants, as the eldest daughters of their houses, Rhaenyra chooses instead to give the seats to their younger brothers, arguing that her own claim to the throne should be considered the exception and not the rule, since Viserys chose her specifically as his heir. And to be fair, this could’ve also been because she didn’t want to give White and Hammer more power through their marriages to those girls, but she also didn’t make any effort to give the girls the lordship without the marriages. To me that’s a stark contrast to Dany who’s out there fighting for the freedom of slaves and linking herself to every downtrodden person she comes across.

Not to say that this should fall into a “good” vs “bad” woman dichotomy when it comes to each women’s morality, and therefore that’s why Rhaenyra deserved to die at the end and Dany didn’t. I don’t think Rhaenyra deserved to die, but I believe that’s exactly the point GRRM was trying to make, hence why Aegon II also died and why Alicent’s whole line ended up dead as well. That’s a entire different message from what we got from GoT with Dany, who is a abolitionist and liberator for 7 seasons and then spends the first half of the last season saving the people of the North without really asking for anything in return, only to do a complete turn over in the remaining 3 episodes and burn a bunch of innocent people in a battle that she could’ve easily won with barely any casualties, just so the writers could “justify” equating her to a dictator and a n*zi, and have their boring action protag kill her while ugly crying—that’s like, not comparable at all with what Rhaenyra and Aegon had going on if you ask me.

I also feel like the general audience should be able to make the distinction between Dany and Rhaenyra because the general audience was just as outraged by the GoT finale as like, diehard Dany stans or book readers. Tbh, anyone who didn’t have an agenda or shipping goggles on could tell what an ass-pull that ending was. People are not stupid and if the writers keep all the characters’ characterizations consistent throughout as many seasons as they’re planning on having, I think they’ll be able to pull it off.

Also I think it’s funny that you mention the people who decided to make this particular period of time a show because GRRM himself was the first one to propose it, according to this podcast. I don’t think choosing to tell this story is necessarily the problem, unless the upcoming Dunk & Egg show ends up painting Aegon V as a tyrant because he wants to give more rights and protections to the smallfolk, in which case I will start thinking HBO is pushing some kind of message lmao.

It is precisely that we’ve got an upcoming Dunk & Egg show plus who knows how many Targ and/or Valyran projects without a single peep or a minimal acknowledgment from the network that what happened with Dany was wrong, that’s the real issue imho.

Like I don’t mean this to sound as if I’m trying to defend the show’s existence or that I think people should watch it, I’m not even sure I will watch it. I just disagree with the notion that the problem sterns from the similarities of two women veering for power ending up dead, because the circumstances leading up to it are so wildly different to begin with.

Alright you can safely take my "It's an alright motivation, but it takes away a lot from the stuff earlier :(" complaint and... well, tbh the complaint is still valid, but you can bump it up to "THIS IS PRETTY DAMN GOOD AND I LIKE IT... BUT ALSO YEAH IT DOES THAT AND THAT'S DUMB."

Akechi, my man.

So, there's a fair bit to say honestly!

First off: It does hurt to have all the prior motivations side lined for his revenge scheme. As I started this post with- honestly, I think they earn it here... at least partially. There's some strong personal issues being sorted about that hold up his character on their own.

But I do still think it's awkward that the end of his character ark so thoroughly softens the blow of "most" of what came before. It still has value for what it was; It still challenged the PT and created an interesting relationship between Akechi and Joker. And it still reflects well on the personal issues that his story concludes with (namely the jealousy and inability to forge relationships).

Buuuut, it still sucks that after shaking up all that morality talk with "Oh but I commit atrocities~" which STILL WORKED AND MADE IT INTERESTING IN A DIFFERENT WAY! They then doubled down with "Oh, and I never really cared about anything other than revenge" which really dampens it :( Though, again, it does have a side narrative of revealing how he failed himself over the years.

It makes things like the interesting conflict he had with Sae over her methods for getting info out of Sojiro feel kind of... empty.

All his talks about morality and the PT went on a roller coaster of "Interesting moral quandary!" to "INTERESTING twisted morality!" to "Oh. He was just fucking with us actually." which :/

Enough about that!

AS I SAID, WHAT'S HERE IS GOOD THOUGH.

Akechi SCREAMING "PERSONA"? Chilling and SICK.

Akechi's power to draw out madness within people's hearts? SICK.

Akechi going MAD as he fails to understand how he's being outdone? SICK.

Driving himself mad to defeat us? SICK.

Akechi being a little dumbass who simultaneously can't comprehend the power of friendship, AND can't understand how he doesn't get friends? FUN.

Ryuji saying some of the best lines against Akechi both in terms of offering sympathy and convincing him to reconsider his ways? Hell yeah :D

Our party talking about how overtly powerful Akechi is and how they are all jealous of him and how we stood no chance in a 1 v 1 when in the real fight Akechi was doing such intensely immense moves as "Hits for 20 damage". Silly! Like seriously, in THIS FIGHT he hits for weak numbers- I could take him.

Akechi's second form? WAY COOLER THAN HIS DEFAULT.

I got more invested in ramblin' off individual things I enjoyed but truly, while I feel this narrative turn does take away from the overall longevity of his character's interesting parts from earlier in the game; It does end off pretty strong in its own right.

Driven to madness from day 1, lusting for nothing but revenge for their entire lives, and through it all their true inner self was more interested in the approval of others than it was anything else.

Truly, while all he talks about is revenge in this final segment, all he ever seems to want is the appreciation of those around him. He wants friends, but can't understand opening himself up to attain them. He thinks he must achieve accolades to feel the love he longs for, but when confronted by Joker, someone who by all means doesn't reach those accolades but has all the love he could want, he's baffled, angry, hurt- it rules!

This is someone who straight up fails to learn from his mistakes. Or, that's not quite right. This is someone who doesn't get to put his lessons into practice and ever achieve the happiness he longed for.

At least not for more than a single moment after Joker mentions the glove. That's one moment of happiness, even if he won't admit it.

Akechi is tragic. He's a tragic character who has a tragic end. He doomed himself years prior; Locked himself into a mindset that wouldn't allow others to grow close to him and committed actions that can't be forgiven and demand recompense of their own.

And this isn't a scene of him learning this and taking steps to make up for it, accepting the consequences of his actions and, no matter the weight of his punishment, being able to look forward to a future with some potential to it.

This is a scene of him spitting at the people offering him help, seething with jealousy and hate, and then, if only for a moment, realizing he's lost.

This isn't him learning to do better, not exactly; It's him learning that his world views were wrong; That he'd lost. That Joker won afterall, in the moral fight, in the life fight, in the love fight, in the literal fight.

And after realizing he lost to his rival and maybe worst of all, that he likes that he lost, he sacrifices himself to save them. Maybe that's a stretch of the events but forgive me it's hardly important compared to what comes next.

What stands out for Akechi is that final moment concluding all the seething hate that came before.

There's that single moment with Joker bringing up the glove.

And you know, Akechi doesn't regret his sacrifice.

Bah~ But did you see him smile then?! DID YA?!

THAT FUCKER LIVED A LIFE OF RESENTMENT AND ALL THAT TIME ALL HE REALLY WANTED WAS FRIENDS BUT HE WAS SO INGRAINED IN HIS HATE THAT HE FAILED THAT AND THEN WHEN JOKER, AFTER **ALL THIS** SHOWS THAT HE STILL CARES, THIS FUCKER SMILES. I like it. :)

Ahem.

It's still strange to see a character built up very well as a foil to Joker to have his story so thoroughly rewritten in the final moments- but I feel like my take away at this close is to more or less say "Akechi has 2 interesting characters in him, but one is built up and tossed out and the other only lasts for 1 battle". And that's arguably not that great, but I choose to enjoy this as I type this.

Akechi: The moral foil to Joker, who challenges us, demands we prove our truth and justice, and proves his beliefs beyond just opposing ours as he challenges Sae as well.

This Akechi who's beliefs can then be twisted into intense corrupt morality; Still validly challenging ours- potentially being encouraged into their ruthlessness even moreso as they see our ways compete against their own. They double and triple down because they can't humor the thought that they are wrong; They are Right and that's what is important.

And then Final Fight Akechi: The troubled youth overwhelmed with a desire for revenge to the point of blinding himself to what he truly needs. His true desire not only unfulfilled- but un-perceived until the very last moments when someone who offered themselves as a friend from the moment they met, proves they meant it.

Oh and he's like a murder kid or something. I don't know, they don't get to explore how he'd exist in a world beyond his murders being unknown; It's clear he'd be punished and that forgiveness is hardly earned, but instead of tackling that hefty question his story is more focused on him learning what he really desired, and getting it for just one moment before dying.

I think there's some really good value to both of these sides of Akechi; But the fact that one nearly demands you rewrite and erase the other is kinda dumb. I choose to enjoy what both bring to the table, but I ain't gonna go out on a limb claiming Akechi is some masterfully handled character after having seen his story through.

Perhaps I could be convinced, but I don't see much use when my take-away is already "I like him :)" lol
