finnick odair x reader
synopsis: you wished more than anything that he had left you to die in that arena, because nothing could hurt more than seeing him with her
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
watching their ceremony had felt like you had drank poison. a burning fire had been brewing in your abdomen, and as they kissed, you had to swallow the bile that threatened to come out.
finnick had turned to face the onlookers, and smiled as he held annie’s hand. only you could notice the smile faltering as he gazed over you, and you looked down, not wanting to look at him any longer.
you had abandoned the wedding early, excusing yourself with the pain in your leg, that hadn’t bothered you since your days in the infirmary, but it was good enough.
you fought tears until you got behind closed doors, where with the commotion of the celebration, hid away the noises of your sobs. finnick knew, and you too had known, that annie would always hold a flame to his heart, but it was you who allowed yourself to fall in love, and it was him who gave you the hope.
days later, a soft knock on your door rang out and finally you had peeled yourself out of your bed to answer it. you couldn’t hide your surprise when you saw it was katniss, looking pale in her grey jumpsuit.
you let her in without question, and moved to sit on your bed, with katniss closing the door behind her.
you raised an eyebrow, “katniss. honestly you’re the last person i would expect to be here.”
katniss didn’t say anything for a moment, until finally, “i doubt you expected anyone at all.” you let out a bitter laugh, and nodded, “i suppose you are correct.”
katniss nodded, “but i’m not. finnick has been asking about you.”
you scoffed, “why does he even care? he’s a married man, he’s with her..” you trailed off, “im just here, the other woman..” you trailed off, and katniss swallowed thickly.
“i cant say anything for him,” she admitted, “but i will say that he is horrible for what he did- and how he lied to you both.” you nodded, forgetting completely about annie, who was oblivious to his indiscretions.
katniss had stayed with you for another moment, where she sat in a comforting silence.
finnick had been looking for you throughout the compound. he had hug onto annie as she did to him, but his eyes would still clear a room looking for you.
he had finally found you, and pulled himself away from annie with just a good enough excuse.
he made his way to you, and you turned to meet his eyes. you rolled your eyes, and sharply turned back on your heel, your feet carrying you to somewhere you didn’t even know you were going.
finnick called your name, desperation in his voice, you felt him hot on your feet. without thinking, he grabbed your arms, and threw you against the wall.
you gasped, and turned to see no one had even batted an eye at his slight aggression, but you were now in no position to ignore him.
finnick swallowed, looking down, “i’m sorry. for having to do this but you won’t talk to me otherwise.” you nodded your head slightly, and sighed, “and?” finnick inhaled, “i should have told you about annie. i- i don’t know what i was thinking.”
“i don’t either finnick. if you had any fucking brains, you would’ve left me to die out there, so you wouldn’t have to see my face around here, and feel that guilt.” you felt your eyes rim with tears, and you sniffled, “you should’ve killed me. done the mercy, finnick. and there’s not a day that goes by that i don’t hate you for what you didn’t do.”
finnick exhaled, and his voice felt shaky, as did his grip on your hands, “i know. i should’ve told you about annie, i should’ve stopped it but-“ he shrugged, “i love you.” he whispered.
you blinked and tears fell onto your cheeks, “you cant say that. you cant say that!” you pulled your arms free and threw him back. finnick fell back onto the wall and stared at you in shock, “you don’t get to fucking say that.” you yelled, and felt yourself heat with anger.
you shook your head, giving finnick one last look before you left him there.

Right where you left me
Summary: Finnick and you had to marry back in the Capitol but as you fell in love with him, Finnick fell for Annie. District 13 breaks everything.
Tumblr media
The room had been dragged into a loud silence after Coin’s words and you couldn’t help but look at her in surprise.
“As I said, the two of you can divorce. After all your wedding had been planned by Snow and the two of you were forced into it.”, she explains further and you feel panic grabbing you, scared of what is going to happen right now.
“I think that’s a good idea.”, you look at Finnick in surprise, but he looks at Coin with a determined gaze.
“Well, then it’s decided.”, you want to tell her that you haven’t said anything about it, but the words aren’t able to leave your mouth. The gazes of the other victors are far too heavy as Coin continues with the meeting. You try to pay attention, but you aren’t able to, to busy thinking of how Finnick left your marriage like it was nothing.
The meeting ends at some point, but you stay there, not knowing what to do just staring at the table where everything got decided. A hand on your shoulder makes you look up and you see Haymitch looking at you with pity in his eyes.
“They have asked you and Finnick to go to the courtroom to sign the divorce papers.”, you nod absently, the words not getting inside your head.
The halls are all the same and it feels like your head is spinning, not understanding what is happening. Coin is in the room, Finnick and Plutarch with her and the papers in front of her.
“So, you just need to sign the documents and then you won’t be married any longer.”, she tells you simply, but you can only stare at them as Finnick takes a pen without any hesitation and signs them. The pen sits in front of you and after a slight nudge from Haymitch you take it with shaky hands and manage to sign it.
Coin says something but you don’t know what something is happening, frozen in place at what just happened. Finnick in front of you but you can’t even look at him, tears form in your eyes as she declares you divorce, and you leave the room not being able to stay there.
The storage room is small, but you don’t care as you close the door and try to breathe again, tears streaming down your face. Your chest feels like it’s going to explode from the pain, and you try to breathe again and again but it doesn’t seem to work. A sob leaves your lips, and you try to keep yourself upwards but fall down on your knees.
Deep down you knew this would come, Finnick had never loved you even when you fell for him. After your games Snow had decided to marry the two favorite four victors to each other and while you felt obliged you couldn’t really complain, Finnick was a good man.
You tried to make it work, tried to get him to talk to you and get closer to him but it never seemed to work. While you fell in love with him and his kindness, he fell more for Annie Cresta who always seemed to get his attention.
The only time he touched you further then a fond smile or a quick hug was when he had drunk a bit and needed the reassurance that everything was going to be fine. And although you wanted to have him close to you, you only felt shame as he held you.
Sometimes you tried to imagine what it would’ve been like if Annie hadn’t been there, if he could’ve fallen in love with you but deep down you knew it wouldn’t be the case.
Something beeps in the room, and you take a look at your wrist, seeing that it’s time for dinner and then moving out of the family cubicle they had given you and Finnick. You tried pulling yourself together, but something felt missing, like some part of you was still there in that room. Shaking your head, you leave the storage room and join a group of people moving towards the dinner hall, not knowing what you were going to do.
“Pull yourself together.”, a voice tells you in the line and you look at Johanna, who looks at you with sad eyes, pity in them.
“I don’t need your comments. If you are here to tell me how shitty I am or look then leave.”, you tell her, anger in your voice that had never been there before, and she takes a small step back.
“Just wanted to tell you, everyone is looking at you and not in a good way. You look like shit!”, she says harshly, and you know that this is how she is. Filled with anger and every time you try to set her back in place she lashes out, maybe before you would’ve stopped but the hurt was just too much.
“Fuck you, Mason.”, you tell her through gritted teeth before letting your plate in line, ignoring the comments you receive and leaving the dinner hall. Anger filling your veins, you don’t know how to get rid of it, but you need to get rid of it. The training room is luckily empty as you take a couple of knifes and throw them at different targets. But it isn’t enough, and you keep doing it until you aren’t able to, your muscles aching.
You crumble to the floor, holding your head between your hands and trying to make sense of everything. A cold band against your forehead makes you look at your hand, the wedding band still sitting there. You rip it off and throw it with all of your force somewhere you are able to, feeling tears in your eyes at the sight of it falling down.
The next weeks are the same, trying to figure out how to live without him and seeing him getting closer with Annie. Dinners are tense and everyone seems to want to leave you alone, like you are an animal that will lash out at any moment. Coin puts you in training and quick enough most of you are ready to head into battle and as you get ready for it you see Annie kissing Finnick before letting him leave.
The anger, hurt and jealousy bubble over and you try to keep yourself together, trying to keep that grace that the academy taught you. But deep down you know that you are getting closer and closer to a boiling point.
District ten is a ruin and as the fight starts you try to put that anger and hurt into the fight, and it’s all going well until someone points a gun at Finnick, and you push the man down taking the gunshot but still able to kill the other with a knife in his throat.
Finnick is on the floor, looking at you in shock but you don’t see it. A pain in your ribs, makes you realize that the gunshot got you.
“Hey, hey!”, Gale yells and as you stutter back but you end up against his chest and he tries to talk to you, but you can’t listen to him.
The words coming out of his mouth are far away and he takes you away from the battle, holding your body close. A strong hand pushes against the bullet wound and you groan, feeling breathless at the pain.
“That’s good, she’s feeling the pain.”, a voice yells as you are laid down, but you try to get up. A hand pushes you back and you see Haymitch looking at you seriously.
“Stay down sweetheart!”, you try to nod at his words, but your body feels hazy, like you don’t have any control over it anymore. Your eyes start to flutter close and for the first time in months you feel at peace, no anger or pain running through you.
Multiple voices say things, but you don’t hear them and after a moment the pain gets smaller, and you can’t help but smile as your eyes finally close and you don’t feel anything anymore.
--
The beeping of machines wakes you up, your eyes fluttering open to see the familiar grey walls of district thirteen staring back at you. Your ribs are hurting like a bitch, and you try to move but it leaves you breathless, the machine beeping even harder.
“Don’t move.”, a doctor scolds you and you fall back on the bed breathless, like you had run a marathon. The doctor looks over you and scribbles some things over his sheet.
“Welcome back.”, he tells you and you look at him confused.
“What happened? How long was I out?”, the doctor sighs while looking at you with hard eyes.
“You took a bullet and it got into your ribs, but it punctured a ligament making you lose a lot of blood. You have been out for five days.”, the words don’t really register but you nod at his words, five days.
“There is also something that I need to tell you.”, the doctor tries to say, looking uncomfortable for a moment and you look at him impatiently, but a voice interrupts you.
“Thank god you finally waked up.”, Haymitch says, and Johanna is behind him, coming in the small cubicle they placed you in. Finnick and Gale arrive a minute later, and you look at all of them tiredly.
“I’m fine! I just need to get some pain medication and then I will be back to normal.”, you tell them through gritted teeth, trying to cope with the pain.
“You aren’t going into battle for a long time.”, you turn to look at the doctor with a glare, but it doesn’t seem to frighten him.
“What do you mean?”, Haymitch is the one that asks the question, and the doctor looks at you unsure.
“Well?”, you ask him, wanting to know what he wasn’t telling you.
“While they were taking out the bullet wounds, they did a scan to find out if you had any internal bleeding.”, he hesitates for a moment, but you nod quickly.
“They found out that you are currently three months pregnant.”, it feels like he has just slapped you across the face.
“By some miracle, the bullet didn’t make any damage around the child, only by your ribs and it punctured your lungs. But the baby is completely fine, still growing.”, you feel like you are going to faint at the words, Finnick seems panicked as he asks more information, but you just feel your hand tremble.
“Hey!”, Johanna tries to get your attention, but the world turns black, and you fall back on the bed, letting the darkness take over.
--
The next time you wake up, Finnick is sitting by your side, looking at a picture of something. You try to move in the bed but aren’t really able to, Finnick looks at you surprised but you ignore him for a moment.
“What do you want?”, you manage to croak out and Finnick looks at you with sad eyes.
“I’m sorry.”, he whispers after a moment, and you scoff.
“For what? Making me feel like shit, going to Annie when you knew I had feelings for you or just throwing me away like I was just some trash. Or one better for getting me pregnant.”, you nearly yell and Finnick flinches back at your words.
“I know I-”, he tries to say but you stop him.
“You don’t know anything Finnick. You were everything to me and I tried everything to be there for you, to get you to love me. But I guess I just wasn’t enough, was I?”, the words hit him hard, you can see the pain in his eyes, but you don’t care.
“Let me help you, with the baby and everything please.”, he whispers after a moment and you scoff, looking at him in disgust.
“Why don’t you go back to Annie and play happy family, like you were doing the last few weeks, hell years! If I do have this kid, it will know you because I can’t erase the fact that you are the father, but I won’t play the happy woman like nothing ever happened.”, Finnick nods, looking at the ground ashamed and you try to find any of the love you had felt for him before, but you couldn’t.
“Annie is also pregnant.”, the anger fills you up once again and you can’t help but laugh out of disbelief making him flinch.
“Just go, leave! It’s the least you can do after everything because I don’t think I can even look at you anymore.”, you tell him and Finnick nods, tears in his eyes at the harsh words before putting the picture on your bed.
“It’s the ultrasound picture of our kid. It’s a boy”, he whispers dejectedly, and you feel sick at the words, looking at the picture like you want it to burn.
The picture lays there as he leaves and you take it softly after a moment, looking at the blur of white and black. Tears come up at the sight of it and unconsciously a hand travels down on your stomach, a sob leaving your lips as you feel the roundness of it.
--
Some people come by, trying to talk with you but you ignore them, just eating your food for the kid but otherwise just lying in bed.
“Can I come in?”, you hear a voice ask and you turn around to see Peeta, you couldn’t help but be surprised at the sight of him.
“Sure.”, you tell him and the man shuffles in awkwardly, looking around the room.
“They left this morning to end it all.”, you can’t help but be surprised that he isn’t with them but then you remember what the Capitol did to him.
“Guess it’s just the two of us now.”, Peeta smiles at your words before looking at your bump.
“Well three of us.”, he says, and you can’t help but chuckle at his words.
“True, nearly forgot about it.”, you feel calmer with him there, not feeling the raw pain as much as before.
“How are you doing?”, you can’t help but ask him and Peeta sighs after a moment and looks at you with sad eyes.
“Doing better, I’m starting to see the differences between what the Capitol tried to tell me and what is real. Things with Katniss are weird, I think she is with Gale, but she seems to find it hard to tell me.”, he whispers the last part, and you can’t help but look at him in sympathy.
“How do you feel about that?”, Peeta lets out a sigh at the words before looking around.
“I think I knew deep down that nothing real would ever happen between us but still, it hurts. I think I always had that hope, but it was stupid.”, you know how he feels, the pain of it and you take his hand to squeeze it in reassurance.
“Love really is something shitty, isn’t it?”, Peeta chuckles at your words and looks at you in sympathy.
“I’m sorry you had to go through all of that.”, he tells you and you nod at his words while looking at the bump.
“Well, can’t really do anything about it now, can we?”, Peeta shakes his head no and looks at the bump with a small smile.
The two of you stay there in silence before you feel something kick against your stomach and you look down at it. Taking of the cover over it you look at the bump worriedly while Peeta seems to do the same thing as he sees you panic.
Another kick comes and this time you see a small foot pushing against your stomach.
“Holy shit.”, Peeta says, and you can’t help but agree, feeling a smile on your face for the first time in months.
“Want to feel it?”, Peeta looks unsure, but you smile at him in reassurance. He takes his hand and places it carefully on the bump, like he is scared to hurt it. After a few seconds a third kick comes right against his hand and Peeta laughs in disbelief at it.
“This is – I don’t even know how to describe it.”, he murmurs, and you laugh softly at his words looking at him with a smile, not even realizing that you haven’t felt any sadness in the past half hour that he has been there.
--
“James! No running!”
“Yes mum.”, a small voice tells you right back, but you still send him a pointed look making him pout before going down the stairs calmly.
“I swear one day he is going to kill me.”, you mumble under your breath before taking your daughter into your arms and going down the stairs, the smell of breakfast taking over the house.
“Good morning.” You say as you enter the room and can’t help but smile as you see Peeta and James putting everything on the table.
“Good morning you and mini you.”, Peeta says while kissing you softly, ignoring James’s disgusted noises. He quickly takes his little girl from your arms and starts talking to her and nodding at her babbling.
“Don’t forget your backpack and everything for when your father comes.”, you tell James as he starts eating and he nods quickly, a bright smile appearing at the knowledge that his dad is coming.
“We are going on the boat today!”, he tells you excitedly and you listen to him ranting about the different fishes he wants to see while looking at Peeta feeding your little girl and listening to James tell his story.
The world isn’t perfect, and there is a long way to go but you have your children and Peeta so deep down you knew that everything would be fine.

promises and dreams (part 2)
pairing: finnick odair x reader
warning: angst, mentions of finnick being trafficked, president sn*w
summary: finnick odair is your best friend, but somehow you cant find it within yourself to be aanything more. Now that the 75th Hunger Games calls for Victors to be reaped you make it your plan to bring Finnick back home to Annie or you will die trying
word count: 2.1k
a/n: thank you for the love on this fic! i'm not sure when part 3 will be out but hopefully soon! let me know if you want to be part of a tag list for this fic!
part 1, part 2, part 3
Finnick’s hard gaze follows you as you take your place on the train, his eyebrows furrows as he watches you pick at your skin as you watch the scenery pass through the windows. Before long he can’t help but voice his thoughts, “Why would you do that?” he blurts out and watches as you look up at him surprised, “do what?” you question and watch as he drags his hand over his jawline in frustration.
“Why would you volunteer for Annie?” he pushes and watches as you look back at him in surprise before you collect yourself and answer him. “To keep her safe” you answer truthfully, you know you can’t tell him you also did it to keep safe, if you did you know full well, he would place himself in front of you and any possible life-threatening situations.
“I would  have kept her safe” he urges and a part of your heart clenches as you watch how fervently he seems to be pushing the subject. Even though  Annie seemed to have survived the reaping, she will always be the first thing on his mind even if you could quite likely be living the last few days of your life.
While you’re thinking about how Finnick  seems not to care about your impending death  his mind is filled with that exact thought. He can’t understand why you would volunteer in place of Annie; he would have been able to help Annie and keep her safe, but you were a loose rocket, he knew he couldn’t contain you and there was next to no way he would be able to protect you with your stubbornness.
He continues thinking of ways to help you throughout  the games and although he promises himself to help you get home, he realises that in doing so, he’ll have to die too, and he can’t really think too hard about that because he has spent his entirety of his life after being crowned a victor telling and teaching tributes after him to fight.
You can only watch as his expression turns from frustrated to sad and fighting the urge to give him space you find yourself speaking to comfort him instead, “its going to be okay” you mention hopefully, truthfully not only to Finnick but to yourself as well. You’ve made your peace with what must happen and although Finnick  is unaware you hope that with your words you can bring him some form of comfort.
“What’re you talking about?” he asks confused, and you just look at him as you repeat your previous sentiment, his confusion only pains you to know that your closest confidant may not understand the gravity of the situation you are both about to face.
Time passes on the train to the Capitol and although Finnick and you try and keep each other’s emotions high, you both can’t help but feel pressure within yourselves and revisit past trauma as you reach the city. You know that for Finnick the months and even years after his games were not easy for him, not because he had won, well partly, but more because Snow had auctioned Finnick off like a pig to slaughter.
You watched as he fought to clench and unclench his jaw, the slight shake in his hands. As you both arrived at the Capitol you were greeted by excited faces of the wealthiest citizens in Panem, you fought the urge to scream and cry at how excited they looked to see the both of you being shipped off your deaths.
“Smile.” Finnick urges you as he looks out of the glass to all the people, he slips perfectly back into his ‘Prince of Panem’ demeanour  and you can only watch with unease as the fakest of smiles grace his face as he lifts his right arm into the air to wave to the onlookers.
You can only attempt to do the same whilst assuring yourself that this is all part of the bigger picture, to survive this act has to be perfect.
As Finnick and you are escorted off the train to the innermost buildings within the Capitol. The strained smile never leaves either of your faces and away from camera’s, your hands stay interlocked. You continue to try and calm yourselves down as you both meet with your stylists to prepare for the parade.
Your stylists lean into the fishing component of district four as you are dressed in a dark blue bikini top and mini skirt that flows and sticks to your body, complimenting your skin tone. Your makeup is filled with glittery blues and whites. Finnick’s look is a lot more subdued in comparison to your own however he does look handsome in his dark blue kilt and spear.
Your eyes follow the expanse of his chest, and you have to fight the urge to run up to him just so you could feel the ridges of his muscles as your fingertips dance over his uncovered skin, although as you spend the time saying hello to the horses, Finnick detaches from you to walk backwards in the line of carriages.
You follow his figure as he reaches the woman of the hour, Katniss Everdeen. You watch his flirt with her shamelessly and your chest hurts, not only for you but for Annie as well but you realise that if Finnick has one advantage, it’s his good looks so knowing he’s trying to find an alliance you let him carry on without interference.
Although humour takes on a human form in Peeta Mellark, Katniss’ teammate, he looks like he’s about to punch Finnick in the throat although a part of you wonders if he’d be able to reach that high. You stifle a giggle at the thought and look back at Katniss and Finnick’s conversation in time for you to see him shove a sugar cube in his mouth.
Ew. You think and although he walks back looking cool you watch as he grimaces as he reaches your carriage. At that point the only thing you can do is wheeze in laughter as he looks at you annoyed trying to get the sugar granules out of his teeth.
“That was sex appeal-“ he starts before you bark out another short laugh as you wheeze, tears come to your eyes before you slap his bicep as he rolls his eyes, “sex appeal!” you repeat as though it’s the funniest thing you’ve heard in years and maybe it might be.
You calm down and see Finnick looking at you with a raised eyebrow, “it was not that funny” he says, and you smirk in his direction, “It was when you resembled the horses when chewing that sugar cube, Mr sex appeal” you smile, and he only nudges you playfully as they announce the first district.
Your heart beats fast and loud within your chest s district four is called alongside your names, you and Finnick both smile politely and wave towards the roaring crowds before you take your place in front of President Snow’s podium.
You watch as all the districts parade out but as soon as you hear the applause and cheers go louder, you look back to see Katniss and Peeta’s outfits on fire. How fitting, you think and smile as you watch them.
They, alongside everyone else, may not be happy to be there but you can tell by looking at them, how in love with each other the both of them are.
The transfer from the parade to the interview is a blur, the only way you can describe yourself is numb. The cheers, Snow, the other tributes, they all become one jumbled mess inside your mid as your sole purpose is to do what you understand every other tribute has to do, act.
You are interviewed after Finnick and as you watch his interview, as it comes to an end Flickerman opens his mouth to speak again, “Finnick, I understand that you have a message for somebody out there, a special somebody, can we hear it?” he laughs as he pushes the microphone to Finnick to answer.
You look on in confusion, what could he possibly be doing? Finnick’s mask slips a bit, and you watch in all seriousness as he speaks, “My love, you have my heart for all eternity and uh, if I die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips” he says into the camera and a shuddering breath passes through you. You blink back tears as you realise Finnick was speaking to Annie and as he takes his place back next to you, you send him a wobbly but hopefully reassuring smile.
You promise yourself that you will do whatever it takes for Finnick to get back to Annie.
You interview is next as Caesar looks at you with an indulgent smile, “Y/N, we’ve heard from your teammate that he’s hopeful to make it back to his special someone, is there any special someone you’re hoping to make it back to?” he asks with an indulgent smile.
You smile back fakely as you answer, “Unfortunately not Caesar!” you reply as the crowd ‘awes’ in faux sympathy. “Well then I’m sure your family must be rooting for you!”  he says as he tries another angle, but you just shake you head, “No actually, I volunteered for my friend Annie Cresta because I knew she needed me to, so really I’m just here for her” you say with a smile as you look at the Tv. Caesar nods and ends the interview as he welcomes Johanna Mason from district 7 to the stage.
You join Finnick on the podium  where all the tributes stand and he pulls himself down to whisper in your ears, “what the fuck was that?” he asks sternly and you look at him confused, “don’t play dumb, ‘I’m just here for her’ what the fuck did that mean Y/N” he hisses, and you shake him off. “Exactly what I meant Finnick, now shut up” you say and shake his hand off you as a small tear runs down your face.
You both stand silent next to one another as you watch the different tributes get interviewed in front of you before Katniss walks out in one of the most beautiful wedding gowns you’ve ever seen, you gasp softly at how elegant she looks as you somewhat remember the announcement of her and Peeta getting engaged before the reaping.
Her interview goes very smoothly as Caesar prods at her about how she was unable to have her wedding, however as she turns to show off her gown, it erupts in flames as it turns into a beautiful blue and black  colour with wings around the back. “A Mockingjay” you and Katniss both say in sync as you look at the dress in disbelief.
Peeta’s interview comes next and although he looks completely assured and confidence you can see the slight shake in his fingers and Caesar questions him, “But Peeta, the wedding, a marriage never to be?” he asks softly and Peter doesn’t waste any time before answering, “Actually we got married, in secret” he confesses and you watch Katniss as she tries to keep her composure and you realise then and there that Peeta is lying.
Interesting. You think, why would be Peeta be lying to Flickerman of all people? Although Caesar takes the news very well as he continues to ask Peeta more questions, “A secret wedding? Do tell” he prods.
“We want our love to be eternal” he states and your heart clenches at the thought, he could be very good at tricking Caesar, but you knew right away any romantic feelings he held towards Katniss was completely truthful. Maybe you and him weren’t  so different after all. “You know Katniss and I have been luckier than most, I wouldn’t have any regrets at all i-if it weren’t-“ he stutters, and you look at him in worry.
“If it weren’t for what?” Caesar prods, “if it weren’t for the baby” he says finally, and you and Finnick turn to each other in shock before composing yourselves as the crowd becomes rowdy. People begin booing and voicing their concerns as Peeta takes his place next to Katniss. You watch as victors begin joining hands and you realise why Peeta announced what he did.
You join hands with Finnick in solidarity alongside another victor from district 5, If the Capitol wanted to go back on their words, they needed to realise that it had consequences, you all lift your hands in sync as the curtains shut around you. Peeta Mellark may just be more interesting than he seems.

Parts in Mockingjay book that should have been in the movie:
-Katniss really disliked living underground at 13. She felt claustrophobic and missed being outdoors and hunting. She never followed the schedule to train and just hid in supply closets and took naps. If anyone tried to question this, she’d show them her medical bracelet and tell them she’s mental.
- Katniss and Annie traveled from 13 to 12 with Katniss’ prep team to find Annie a wedding dress in her house in Victor’s Village. Katniss’ wedding dresses were sent back to the Capitol but she still had a few dresses from the Victory tour. Annie chose a green one. Katniss says Annie laughs at wrong times in a conversation and drifts off mid sentence but Finnick likes her so she does too.
- Peeta decorated Finnick and Annie’s wedding cake. It was part of his therapy after getting hijacked. He decorated it with blue and green waves for their district.
-Johanna and Katniss’ friendship: Johanna wanted to fight in Capitol with the Katniss and Finnick. She and Katniss were deemed too “mentally unstable” to fight. They had to start at the lowest level in training and work their way up to the top. They were even roommates for a while. Katniss noticed Johanna avoided showers and was scared of training outside in the rain. She later finds out Johanna developed a fear of water after being tortured in the Capitol by being waterboarded and electrocuted.
- Katniss was mad that Peeta was sent to fight in the Capitol so she calls Haymitch. Haymitch gives her the ultimate reality check, delivering the best line in the series: “I think it's time you flipped this little scenario around in your head. If you'd been taken by the Capitol, and hijacked, and then tried to kill Peeta, is this the way he would be treating you?” demands Haymitch. I fall silent. It isn't. It isn't how he would be treating me at all. He would be trying to get me back at any cost”.
- In the last part of the training, Johanna and Katniss go through a combat stimulation in which the person must face their greatest weakness. Katniss’ weakness was taking orders (no surprise). In Johanna’s stimulation, she faced a flood, had a flash back and panicked. She was sent back to the hospital and wasn’t allowed to the Capitol. To make her feel better, Katniss combined pine tree needles with a bandage to make a sort of fragrance bundle. Johanna said it smelled like home. 🥹
- After the silver parachutes bombs and Prim’s death, Katniss was also affected by the fire. Her skin became discolored and patchy. Peeta was also at the Capitol Circle during the bombing and was burnt as well. He and Katniss have burn scars all over their bodies that never fully go away.
-After the bombing, Katniss is described as a mental “Avox”, refusing to speak for weeks after her sisters death.
-All the stylist and prep team of the Hunger Games were assassinated, with the exception of Effie and Katniss’ prep team. The victors of the Hunger Games were killed as well except for the ones who were imprisoned in the Capitol and saved by District 13.
- The bombs decorated as silver parachutes to m@rder Capitol children was Plutarch’s idea. A Gamemaker’s touch as President Snow described. Plutarch was just as bad as Coin. He thought it made for “good television”
-After Katniss murdered Coin, she was kept in the Training Center for weeks till they figured out what to do with her. She considered s@uicide many times, either by overdosing or refusing to eat. She wouldn’t speak and sang to herself constantly. All the songs her father taught her. After the war ended, Plutarch asked her if she wanted to be a part of a singing competition he was televising in 4.
-Katniss and Peeta wrote a book about all the people they knew and details about them: Primrose, Cinna, Finnick, Peeta’s dad. Peeta drew the pictures. Haymitch helped them too, giving them information about the tributes he was forced to mentor. They plan on reading the book to their children one day.
-What happened to District 12: Hundreds of people left 13 to go back home to 12. They began finding bodies in the rubble and burying them. Madge and her family were found dead. A large hole was made in the Meadow to bury them. Then people began rebuilding the town. With the mines closed, a factory was built from the Capitol to make medicine.

Omg you write finnick so perfectly!! I was wondering if you could write something about finnick dating somone with POTS syndrome and how he reacts to it? 🫶🫶
thank you that is the best compliment! and thanks for requesting!! i think this is one of the best things I've written tbh
fyi: POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) is a medical condition that can lead to an increased heart rate when standing up. it can cause lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting.
finnick odair x reader with POTS, set during catching fire (reader volunteered for annie instead of mags), 0.6k words
You were sitting on the sofa, curled up in Finnick's arms while the two of you rewatched Ceasar's interviews with the tributes for the 75th Hunger Games. Finnick played with loose strands from your ponytail while you fixated on the television, despite your oncoming headache and lightheadedness.
"You okay, lovely?" Finnick asked, concerned. He had always been sweet to you, a fact that hadn't changed when you'd told him you'd been diagnosed with POTS a couple years ago, and still didn't change when you had volunteered for Annie in the place of Mags. In fact, he'd grown even more protective over you.
You nodded, but the movement made your vision blurry. Pausing, you tried to turn around to Finnick. "I don't know," you whispered, a slightly panicked tone in your voice.
He frowned, and he shifted under from you, trying not to rock you too much. "That's okay. Can you just stay here for me, just for a second, honey? I'll go grab you some water."
When you gave him a thumbs up, he got up quickly, resting a hand on your shoulder for a second before heading into the kitchen. It took him a while to return, or at least, it seemed that way to you.
You grew worried, anxiety building up in your throat even though logically, you knew nothing would have happened to him. "Finnick?" you called, a croak in your voice. When he didn't respond, or you didn't hear it, you got up and immediately regretted your decision.
He rushed into the living room just in time to set down the glass of water and catch you as you fell, almost hitting your head on the edge of the coffee table. "Shit," he murmured, the expletive hot under his breath.
Finnick placed you gently back onto the sofa, a pillow under your head to keep it elevated. "Honey, c'mon," he said, his hands desperately cupping your cheeks. "Wake up for me, yeah?"
You blinked your eyes open, straining against the bright lights and he took notice of that, quickly shutting them off and returning back to your side. "Hi," he whispered, clearly worried about you.
"Hi," you whispered back, attempting to sit up. Finnick pushed you down with a firm hand to your chest. "No," he said sternly, a tone in his voice that dared you to defy him. You did not.
He reached to the table where he'd set down the glass and lifted it up to your mouth, watching intently as you gulped down a couple of sips. "That's it," he said, moving the cup when you finished.
"Are you feeling okay?" he asked. Finnick looked distraught. You felt the strangest urge to comfort him.
You gave him the biggest smile you could muster, and since you were exhausted, it wasn't big at all. He looked almost constipated as he reciprocated the smile. "I'm okay," you muttered, a small reassurance in Finnick's eyes.
He let a breath of air he'd been holding release, and he climbed onto the sofa next to you, pulling you into his chest. You gladly went inside, feeling the remnants of your dizziness dissolve as you pressed yourself deeper into his body.
Finnick reached his hands up to your hair, kneading gently at your scalp. His movements were soothing and they helped calm down your aching headache. When you sighed in pleasure, he let out a surprised laugh, muffled by your hair.
Soon, you fell asleep, accompanied by the sound of his deep breathing and his soft scratching of your hair. You dreamed of the sea, the ocean, and Finnick, and you clung onto the dream for as long as you could, because you knew that when you would wake up, everything would be different.

Odesta Observations
Tumblr media
Finnick can't actually flirt with Annie.
It was a realisation that took a while to sink in, but once it did, Katniss saw it everywhere.
The way he'd stammer over his words when he said anything even remotely romantic towards her.
The way his brain seemed to short-circuit whenever Annie smiled in his direction, or placed a kiss on his cheek, or lent her head on his shoulder.
Or, more damningly, the way an unusual red colour spread across his cheeks and nose, going all the way down his neck and up to his ears, whenever Annie (god forbid) flirted back.
It was actually a hilarious concept.
Finnick Odair, darling of the Capitol, playboy prince with enough lovers to create a small army, was shy.
And not shy in general. Not shy in that flirty way, where the flirter blushed ever so slightly to appear cute and endear themselves.
No, in front of Annie Cresta, Finnick was the tripping-over-his-own-feet kind of shy.
He was the stammering-over-his-words-so-hard-he-forgot-how-to-English kind of shy.
He was the slamming-his-head-into-the-table-to-hide-his-face-even-though-she's-right-there-oh-my-GOD kind of shy.
And Katniss was 99% sure Annie knew exactly what she was doing too. Because Annie flirted back a lot, and laughed every time, pressing gentle kisses to a bright red cheek or nose and allowing him a little time to compute what exactly happened. And when he tried to continue flirting, voice small and kind of uncertain, she'd just raise one eyebrow, as if challenging him to a verbal battle.
Usually this ended in Finnick dropping his head onto her shoulder, grumbling about her wittiness and how unfair this was. Annie would pat his head lovingly, telling him that he'd get her next time and that he'd just have to practice.
He never did.
It actually became something Katniss did to pass the time. Her and Johanna nicknamed it 'Odesta Observation', just watching them and reporting back to each other the most embarrassing things Finnick managed to do.
"She smiled at him and he managed to catch his toe on nothing and fall flat on his face." Johanna reported one day, still cackling.
"He tried to tell her a pick up line, gave up halfway through, turned around and walked straight into a wall." Katniss whispered to Johanna in passing, walking ahead with a slight smirk as Johanna barked out a laugh.
"She said that he was the most precious thing in her life and he took a whole ten minutes to react."
"He ranted about her hair for 25 minutes straight and then when she walked into the room he panicked and jumped so hard he fell off the bed."
"Annie caught him mid-story about a dog with pink and his voice raised three pitches before he started talking about Annie's dogs in 4."
"He saw Annie helping out in the baby ward and came to my room and screamed into my pillow for a few minutes before telling me he was fine."
Sometimes though, their observations weren't quite so silly.
"He held her for ten minutes while she seemed to come down from some kind of panic attack."
"She always kisses his chin when he seems to be drifting away, and he always puts his head on her shoulder after that."
"He likes to tug at her hair when her eyes go all vacant, and it seems to bring her back to reality."
"She likes to fiddle with his hair, braiding and brushing and playing with it until he falls asleep."
"She wakes up in a cold sweat when he's not beside her."
"He pleads for her to come back in his nightmares."
"She wanders the complex when she's not fully there, crying and searching for Finnick."
"He sneaks into her room at night, unable to sleep without her by his side."
Annie and Finnick were in love. They were entirely dependent on each other, both of them needing the other to complete them. Their adoration for each other was palpable, and Katniss could feel the devotion radiating off them.
It wasn't a surprise when Finnick popped the question.
And if he blushed and stammered his way through his wedding vows, Annie smiling ever so indulgently at him while he did so, Katniss would only tease him a little bit about it.

Tumblr media
Luckily the first few days after the visitors got back were manic so you didn't have to think about how your life had changed. You shut yourself away with Johanna and monitored everything about her condition. You slept at the foot of her bed, fetched her meals, helped her walk to the bathroom and just basically let your life revolve around her in a similar way as you had with Finnick. You supposed you had a pattern of throwing everything into fixing someone's life when you felt your own was falling apart.
Your sister was smart though and knew something was up. She'd asked you how you'd been but you only gave vague answers. When she mentioned you to other people they looked away and she was beginning to think you'd done something horrendous based on the reactions. She was so proud but getting a little tired of all the secrecy. She'd finally managed to convince you to take her on some walks so she could leave her room and her hope was she'd see someone who would actually be honest with her about what was happening. So she was ecstatic when you bumped into Finnick, you not so much. "There he is!" Johanna said "the real-life merman, where have you been I've hardly seen you!" Johanna said as Finnick walked into the infirmary. He jumped at her voice and you seemed just as nervous. "Johanna we should go get you sat back down" you said but she pushed your comments away and looked to Finnick, expecting a reply. "I've just been busy" he said awkwardly and Johanna smiled "oh yeah with Annie? I bet you're having fun being back together?". You felt your cheeks go bright red and Finnick wrung his arms out of the sheer awkwardness. He shrugged at Johanna and looked right past her to you.
"Y/n" he said softly "please can we talk?". "Sorry we've got to go, Johanna's late for an appointment". "No I'm not, what's going on?" your sister asked but you just looked at her and in your best big sister voice said "Johanna, come on!". She could see the fear in your eyes so she nodded to Finnick and followed you out.
"So" Joanna said after you'd gotten her back into her room and finally stopped chattering on about random stuff in a failed effort to distract her from what she witnessed "are you going to tell me what that weirdness with you and Finnick was or am I going to have to break out of here and ask him?". You shook your head, you'd managed a few days pretending it hadn't happened and she'd hear it sooner or later so better it came from you. "The two of us had a thing" you shrugged and Johanna grinned. "Alright Y/n! He's a total upgrade from that last girl you were into! So how did it happen? Did you go for it first or him? Is he as good in bed as we all think". You blinked "I'm not sure I want to answer any of those questions" and Johanna could see your expression and knew you were upset. "What happened?" she repeated "you said you had a thing, how much of a thing". "We were dating" you admitted "publically, everyone here knows or I guess knew". Johanna's brows furrowed and then it clicked "until Annie came back". You nodded "Finnick thought she was dead, that's the only reason he was with me". Johanna shook her head "not the only reason, he's not like that". You shrugged "well what does it matter? She's back and I'm dumped". "Did he actually say that?" Johanna asked and you shook your head "no, he's been trying to talk to me since she got back but I've been avoiding him. I already know what he's going to say so what's the point?". Johanna hit you with surprising force and you moved your arm away from her. "Ow!" you cried "bitch". "Well bitch is better than coward! Go speak to him! You don't know, he might still want you". You shook your head "he won't she's the love of his life. I know his decision, it's pretty obvious and I just don't want to hear him say it to me". "You won't be able to face him until you do" Johanna argued. "Who says I want to face him?" you asked "honestly, I just want to forget that Finnick Odair ever existed".
You meant that 100% but your sister also meant what she said and she knew you'd regret not talking this out with Finnick, or so she thought. So she came up with a plan to make you face him. Basically, she told Finnick she desperately needed to talk to him about you. Then when he arrived she popped out to nip to the toilet, waited for you to come for her "check-up" appointment, watched you go into her room and locked the door. "You're not coming out until you talk to him Y/n!" she yelled.
You really hated your sister sometimes. It was just like her to ignore what you'd said and do what she thought was best. She was so stubborn too and you knew there was no way she was letting you out until she did what you said. "Johanna!" you grumbled under your breath before turning back to Finnick "okay fine, you want to talk so talk but I have some rules. No apologising, no telling me how great I am or asking if we can stay friends. Okay?". Finnick blinked just as surprised by this situation. He'd wanted to speak to you for days but now you were in front of him, he was a little nervous. He nodded, taking in you and your rules and the words came easy to him because he'd been thinking over them for the past few days nonstop. He still felt so much emotion when he looked at you though so he needed a few breaths to compose himself. "Well I just wanted to say I never meant for this to happen and that I'm...you got me through everything this past year and I wanted to thank you for that. You meant a lot to me Y/n and nothing will change that, I will always care about you and every moment we spent together was real for me okay?". You nodded "got it, we done?". Finnick couldn't think of anything else he could say to make this right so he nodded "okay". "Great, see you around!" you said and banged on the door "Johanna he says we're done" and Finnick yelled for her to let you out. "That was like 20 seconds!" she complained and you nodded "I told you, here's nothing left for him to tell me" and you stormed off to sulk.
You refused to speak to Johanna after that and you suspected she sent Katniss after you. The Mockingjay appeared at your door and asked if you wanted to talk a walk outside. You walked through the rubble aimlessly before stopping by some trees. Once you sat down it began.
"I'm sorry" Katniss said and wanted to choke her but considering Peeta just did that you thought it might be a bit harsh. "It must be difficult" she said, unaware of your inner monologue "to have someone appear and take everything away from you". You knew she was speaking more through her own situation so managed not to get annoyed. "How are you coping?" you asked her "have you seen him since...?". Katniss nodded "a few times, it's still the same". "Well if someone did that to him it can be undone. It's just like computer programming, they'll work out a way". Katniss didn't look convinced and you weren't really good at comforting sad people. So you did what just felt natural. You rested your head on her shoulder. Katniss stiffened and you wondered if you'd overstepped but then she leaned back on you. "Thanks Y/n" she whispered and you nodded "no problem" and just sat in silence.
You first saw Annie a few weeks later. You were eating in the dining hall and went to put your plate away as she walked in...with Finnick. You of course stopped like a deer in headlights and stared at them. Annie noticed you after Finnick and her gaze turned icy which made sense. Everyone here knew about you and Finnick, it couldn't be a nice welcome to receive. Everyone at District 13 was used to you and Finnick so even though Annie was with him first, it was like she was the new one in their eyes which anyone would hate. The whole room went silent as she walked in and stared at the three of you which didn't exactly help. You had no idea what they thought was going to happen. You and Annie weren't going to start fighting or having a slanging match in the middle of lunch. There was nothing to fight about, she had him and you didn't. End of story. The situation was so tragic it was like a soap opera and you didn't do tragic. So you raised your head, pretended neither of them was there and walked right past them.
You felt quite proud of how you'd handled yourself but not everyone did. Finnick followed you out and when you wouldn't respond to his calls he ran after you. He quickly caught up with you and you couldn't pretend you didn't hear him anymore. "Y/n come on it doesn't have to be like this!" he said and you rolled your eyes "like what? Were nothing Finnick". "I know and that's the problem! I don't want to pretend you don't exist" Finnick said and you sighed "well we can't exactly go back to how it was before so this is our only opinion" you replied. "But why is it?" Finnick asked "is there really no hope of us being friends or at least acquaintances who say hello to each other". You raised your eyebrow at him. With as much malice as you could muster you spat "grow up Finnick" and walked away.
He didn't follow.
After that Finnick didn't try and talk to you again. He and Annie avoided you, if you passed them on the corridor, they'd look away. He started training in a different space and moved his room away from yours. You told Johanna you were over it but that was a lie. It hurt every time you got a reminder of them and you had no idea why the pain wasn't going away. Nearly two months had passed and you still felt as shitty as the first day you realised you lost him. You weren't sure how much more you could take and then one day you found Finnick waiting outside your room. "I need to tell you something" he said and you didn't even have the strength to fight it. You figured the sooner he started the sooner he could leave and regretted your actions almost immediately.
"Annie asked me to marry her" Finnick started and a reaction literally burst out of you without any control. "Jesus christ Finnick!" you yelled "why are you telling me this? Why did you think I should hear this personally? This is exactly what I want to hear right now, this is just what I want. Did you really think I'd prefer it over Johanna telling me what day to stay in my room and avoid the ceremony? I know you think you're helping but you're really not!". "No see that's the thing!" Finnick said "we're not getting married! I told her no!".
You had another long rant ready but that threw you off guard "no? Okay...so why tell me?". "Because it made me realise how different my mind and Annie's are. It made me realise I don't feel for her like I used to...I'm not in love with her anymore. I'm in love with you".
You blinked your eyes several times but Finnick didn't go away so you just asked "I'm sorry?" and Finnick smiled. "Y/n I'm so sorry for all of this and that it took me this long to say it but I want you! I miss you so much and I'm at my happiest with you. I don't want to marry Annie, I want you. So will you please take me back?". "Take you back?" you asked "but Annie...she's you're soulmate, you're the Katniss and Peeta of District 4. You saved her!". "She helped save me too but she's not my soulmate, that doesn't exist and I don't love her that way anymore. My feelings for you are stronger than my feelings for her and I can't hug or kiss her without wishing it was you. I tried to press on at first but it's not fair to anyone. I know I've hurt you a lot but can you consider it" Finnick asked "I need you Y/n".
In retrospect, considering all Finnick knew about you he should've expected you to throw a punch at him. However, he didn't and you caught him on the jaw.
"You need me?" you yelled throwing a punch and Finnick groaned in pain. "You need me? Are you joking! What do you think this has been like for me?". "You needed me? I needed you Finnick" you said choking up and he nodded also tearing up. "I know I'm sorry, Y/n I'm so sorry" he said and hugged you. You melted into his touch and cried as he held you tightly against him.
Even after you'd calmed down, Finnick kept his arms around you and you didn't mind. You'd missed him so much you didn't want him to ever let go. "I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight" you told him and he looked at you with a frown "why?". "Because I'll wake up and this will go away, it will have been a dream". Finnick shook his head "this is real Y/n, I'm not going anywhere...again" and for good measure he pinched you. When you jumped he smiled "see, not dreaming". You were going to push him when you saw the red mark on his face.
"Shit I did that didn't I?" you asked and Finnick worked out what you meant "yes you did". "Does it hurt?" you asked and got your answer when Finnick jumped as you touched it. "I'm so sorry, let me get an icepack," you said and ran from the room before Finnick could respond.
You returned quickly after and Finnick let you lay him down and apply the pack. "I'm sorry for hitting you but that really came from nowhere". Finnick frowned "well it wouldn't have if you'd have let me talk to you". "You didn't want to talk to me at the start, you still thought you wanted Annie". "Did I though?" Finnick asked "you never gave me a chance to tell you otherwise. The second Annie got back you ran away from me and wouldn't speak to me". "True" you agreed "but what was I meant to think? That you'd choose Annie over me? If I'd have come to you and told you I didn't want to lose you that night she got back, would you really have considered me over Annie?". "Yes" Finnick said without hesitation "100% and I think part of me was desperate for you to" he admitted "I wanted you to tell me you wanted me so I could say it back".
Your jaw dropped to the floor. "I had no idea I had that option" you admitted "I thought I couldn't hold a flame to her". Finnick shook his head "Y/n, you're the person who saved me after I was rescued. You were the reason I got out of bed each morning and the reason I'm still alive. I think the day I left the capitol the old me died and here I became a new one thanks to you. I was happy with you and so when Annie appeared it was surreal. When you retreated I tried to carry on as before but I couldn't because I was different. The truth is I'd accepted her death and I'd moved on. I will always care and love Annie but it's so different with you. With Annie, it came from our shared experience and trauma...which was important, I needed that but I didn't realise there could be more in a relationship. I got that from you. We had shared trauma but it wasn't dependent or dishabilitating, being with you made me strong" Finnick smiled "you made me feel so powerful and valuable as well as feeling so loved and supported. I wasn't a victor, a District 4 golden boy or a mentor, it was almost like I was the pre-games Finnick. You made me feel human again and helped me forget. You're...pretty special" he finished and you smiled. "Finnick I..." and you paused. You'd never told anyone you loved them before. Even Johanna and you didn't say it often so you were scared to say it to Finnick. You thought you were in love with him but didn't want to make yourself so vulnerable. Finnick seemed to sense this and he took your hands "it's okay Y/n, you don't have to say anything" and he hugged you. You settled against his chest and closed your eyes.
Finnick said you held a candle to the love of his life! Maybe one day, you could be his new one. Maybe you were already on your way there?
"So do you guys have to make an announcement retracting your breakup or something?" Johanna asked the next day "or do you just announce you're together again?" she asked. "I think neither" Finnick said and you nodded your head "they've had enough fun with our private life". "Yeah but how will they all know you're not with Annie anymore?" Johanna asked. "Well considering I moved out of her place, settled back into Y/n's and we've been seen pretty much everywhere together I think they'll get the message". You nodded "they have, I've had quite a few girls smiling at me today". Finnick laughed "maybe they were just being friendly?" and you and Johanna both shot him a look. "No, it wasn't a casual smile it was like a well-done smile. A you got the prize smile". "You got the prize?" Finnick asked "do you need me to wear a little bow or something from you?". "Maybe if that's the only thing you're wearing" you agreed and Finnick grinned "evening plans". "Eugh, I didn't realise how gross this was going to be, can you two stop undressing each other with your eyes while I'm sat right here?". "No" you and Finnick responded at the same time and Johanna stormed away. "You're way too sweet and cute you know?" she called and you smiled "we know".
"Were you and Finnick like this from the start?" Johanna asked later when Finnick had left and it was safe to be in the room again. You smiled "like what?" and she rolled her eyes "all gross and all over each other. So happy and horny". You went to argue before realising you didn't have a leg to stand on and nodded "yeah actually that's a pretty accurate description". Johanna shook her head "I just had no idea the two of you would work so well together, I mean I knew you were attracted to one another but this is something else". "Wait go back, you knew we were attracted to one another?". Johanna nodded "duh! The first time you saw Finnick you couldn't take your eyes off him and yes he was half-naked but it was different. You were looking at him how you used to look at Sophia Grey back home". You smiled at the memory of her and shrugged "that's probably accurate, I still think Finnick's the hottest man to ever exist but you said you could tell he was attracted to me too?". Johanna nodded "yeah he liked your charisma and charm. People usually got tongue-tied around him but you were the belle of the ball and he was attracted to that. Not to mention you were a pretty young female who had just won her games, I didn't think Finnick would do anything because he had Annie but I still wanted to separate you so others didn't get any ideas". You nodded "Finnick mentioned that, I never realised how much you did for me, how you've been protecting me even since I got out of the games". "And now you've got Finnick to take my place" Johanna said not hiding her bitterness and you smiled "I'll always need my big sister. Plus we're Masons, from the womb to the tomb!". You could tell you took Johanna by surprise with that one and she burst out laughing "what the fuck is that? Where did you hear it?". "It's good right?" you asked and she shook her head "it's fucking terrible!".
"Now back onto the topic of you and Finnick because I still have questions" Johanna said "how did that even happen? Especially if he thought Annie was dead". You explained how you cared for him and became friends that way. "There was always an attraction there and then one day he saw me naked. He stared and was pretty obvious so I came to his bedroom at night and asked if he wanted to have sex". Johanna laughed "you just went up and asked?" and you nodded. "I'm impressed" she smiled "and I bet Finnick was too". You nodded "he seemed it. From there we spent more time together, bonded, emotions got involved, Annie came back from the dead, Finnick came back to me and boom. Present day". Joahnna nodded "and he makes you happy right?". You smiled without even thinking and nodded. "Good" Johanna said "and if he ever hurts you again I'll kill him".
The war really started speeding up after that and before you knew it Katniss was spotted in the capital. When you heard, Finnick sat up straight in his seat and you could tell what he wanted to do from the look in his eye. So the two of you were on the next ship out to join Katniss. Johanna couldn't come because of her injuries and you refused to help smuggle her out. She claimed she was never going to speak to you again but hugged you tightly before you left. "Come back" she told you forcefully and you nodded "I will, we both will" but felt like you'd cursed yourselves the second you'd said that. You got a horrible sinking feeling and realised you'd rather not come back at all than come back without Finnick.
Things weren't too bad at first when you got to the capitol, you used Bogg's tracker thing to safely navigate your way through the capitol but then everything went wrong. Bogg was hurt and died in seconds. Then one of the soldiers triggered a trap trying to get to her sister. A black tar-like substance began to pour down and you were one of the first to react. You grabbed Finnick, pushed him in one direction and headed for the girl who couldn't walk. You and her sister were carrying her to a house when you heard Finnick shout and go back. "Finnick!" you yelled and wanted to go after him but you couldn't abandon this girl. "I'm okay. We're here!" you heard him yell a few seconds later and you breathed out in relief. You broke your way into a building and carried the girl upstairs. The substance was getting closer and you realised there was nowhere else to go. You put the girl down and began to assess the area. You kicked open one of the doors and began moving her through there. The others followed you and that was when you noticed Finnick had Peeta in a tight grip. "What happened?" you asked and then you saw the body hanging outside. "A bit of trouble" Finnick told you before smiling "but we're fine, especially now that stuff has stopped". He was right, the tar was retreating and draining away as if it had never been chasing you.
You moved to a new building where you found out you were all dead! Finnick laughed at the death announcements until yours appeared. That sobered him up but you just smiled "wow they remembered my name? I'm famous!". Katniss rolled her eyes at you and Finnick, who still didn't like you talking this way, passed you some food and sat next to you. You all ate and rested before working out the next steps. You realised after that the streets were a no-go and decided the sewer was a better bet because nothing bad ever happens in the sewers!
You navigated your way down the tunnels and then stopped to sleep in an alcove that seemed safe. You and Finnick woke at Lieutenant Jackson's shout at the same time. You grabbed each other's stuff and were out of that tunnel first. It was antagonising, walking through those tunnels while hearing animalistic noises and having no idea if they were getting closer or further away. Gale led in front with his gun and you were behind him, helping pass on Pollux's directions. You could tell something bad was going to happen, you could almost feel it in the air and so did Finnick. When the two of you climbed through the tunnel, he subtly grabbed your arm and pulled you away from the group. He was already backing away when the first swarm appeared and killed Lieutenant Jackson before she could even scream. Gale opened fire and you worried Finnick might try and go back to grab Peeta but luckily he didn't. He had a hand on Pollux and was practically dragging him with you as he ran. Pollux pointed and Finnick would yell the direction to you urging you to go faster. You could hear the others behind you and were glad they were still alive. You felt a little bad for not checking they were okay before you ran but survival skills are a bitch and the only thing you wanted from this was for Finnick and hopefully, yourself to survive.
You reached a ladder and pushed Pollux to the front, the others appeared closely followed by those things. You finally got a good look at them and you were horrified. So much so you were frozen to the spot until one charged at you. You threw an axe at what you assumed was its face and then threw two more as others took its place. It was chaos, you saw Cressida go up the ladder and were looking for Finnick to tell him to go next when you were tackled by one. Its jaws were horrible and it was trying more than anything to bite you. You just had an axe ready when its neck was slit was a trident. "Come on you're next up!" Finnick cried yanking you onto your feet and pushing you to the ladder. "Not without you!" you said and he shook his head "I'm right behind you" so you started to climb. You made it up and realised Holmes was up here too. You could hear more of those things down there and tried to see what was going on but it was a mess. A figure appeared and you got hopeful until you realised it was Peeta. You yanked him up and then climbed back down the ladder. "FINNICK!" you yelled and it took you a few seconds to spot him. He was further away than Katniss and Gale who were right below the ladder. He was alone and the obvious one to be left behind unless something happened now!
"Finnick!" you cried again and Katniss looked up at you but Gale just pushed her towards the ladder and she started to climb. Gale called to Finnick but didn't make any moves to get him. He was going to die. Katniss had nearly reached you and was yelling a you to climb but you couldn't. There was no way you were going up that ladder without Finnick, so you let go.
Katniss tried to grab you as you fell but luckily she missed. You managed to grab one of the bars near the bottom to slow your fall but still hit your knee on the way down. Pain exploded in your leg but you didn't care. It could've been broken and you would've forced yourself to stand. The creatures were trying to swarm Finnick and you threw yourself, literally, into them. You knocked two down before decapitating another two with a spear Finnick had dropped. You kicked one into the water and buried your axe in another three. "Y/n what are you doing? You were up and out!" Finnick cried as you fought your way towards him. When you were near he grabbed your arm and pulled you beside him. "Yeah but you weren't!" you replied "we both get out or neither of us!". In the middle of all of that, Finnick smiled at you "Katniss and Peeta who?" and you couldn't help but smile back.
You worked together fighting side by side and were doing well but they just wouldn't stop coming. "We need a way to stop them or slow them down" Finnick panted and you nodded "but how?" when something came to you. "Finnick throw the trident!" you cried and he locked eyes with you and got it. "Duck!" he said and threw it into the larger tunnel, pressing the button that would make the whole thing explode. It was similar technology to Katniss' arrows but as Finnick's trident was bigger than her arrow, the explosion was also larger. The whole tunnel collapsed, killing all of those creatures down there. One down, one more to go you through as more came from the other side.
The blast had destroyed the concrete leading to the ladder so there was no way you were escaping that way and you stopped trying. You and Finnick were both injured, covered in water and these things blood but neither of you stopped and finally got to a lul as Finnick killed the last one. "Come on, we've got to push forward" Finnick said taking your hand and running through the tunnels. It was fine for the first few seconds and then you heard sounds of more. "There's too many of them for us to kill one-on-one we need to get somewhere high!" you told Finnick "Somewhere out of the water and I can deal with them". Finnick looked at you and got it "I think I saw somewhere on the map" and you nodded trusting him.
You ran for what felt like forever and you spotted the ladder at the same time you heard the creatures. "Come on let's go!" Finnick yelled and you both started sprinting. When you reached the ladder Finnick literally picked you up and tossed you halfway up it before scrambling up after you. You could actually hear the creatures' footsteps now and their claws reached the ladder just as you got up. You immediately turned around and yanked Finnick up. He fell on top of you and you pushed him onto the floor. "Finnick stay down!" you yelled and activated your own weapon, lobbing it down the hole, right past the creatures on their way to you. However, instead of staying down, Finnick leapt up and rugby tackled you away from the hole and used his body to cover you as the electrified axe exploded. You both cried out as the electricity hit you too but Finnick had shared the charge with you and after a few seconds you could breathe again.
You heard screams of agony as the creatures were basically fried alive, as well as everything close in the tunnel. The sparks lit up the whole space and the stench was awful. You could taste metal in your mouth and you both kept spasaming as some extra electricity escaped you but you were alive. Finnick had saved your life and to thank him you leaned over and kissed him. Finnick jumped at the contact but soon relaxed at the sensation and when you broke away opened his eyes. "Thank you" you told him and he shot you his beautiful smile "you said it Y/n, both of us or neither of us" and he took your hand and ventured out of the tunnels.
You and Finnick climbed higher and ran through some more of the underground tracks. You came across a few peacekeepers but managed to take them out easily. After the monsters you'd just dealt with humans were easy. You got one of their guns which solved your weapons running out problem but you couldn't hold the whole capitol off indefinitely. "We need to find the others" you said and Finnick shook his head "no we need somewhere to hide". You didn't ask where because there would be no point in that, so you just nodded and kept going. You didn't want to spend any more time underground and even though it was a risk, you and Finnick followed a tunnel above ground. You began gathering rocks to throw to test for any traps but stopped when Finnick began to laugh. When you asked what was going on, he picked you up and swirled you around in a hug. "We're going to make it" he smiled "come on, I know where we are". You didn't have any follow-up questions and followed Finnick as he carefully led you to a house.
Finnick knocked on the door heavily and on the second time it opened. Finnick wasted no time forcing his way inside and dragging you inside. You slammed the door shut behind you and blinked to see an older man staring at you. He was in a bright pink dressing gown with feathers on the collar. "Finnick?" he asked and Finnick smiled "don't tell me you forgot your most profitable worker?".
"You worked for him?" you hissed when you and Finnick were alone "as in he let people do those things to you and actually encouraged it?". Finnick nodded "yes but believe it or not, Feather was one of the good ones. He always tried to protect me and made the clients treat me...well not nicely but to a standard. He also helped me escape it all and return to my district". That did sound better but you still put a hand on Finnick's arm when the man, Feather, returned.
"I can't see any guards but it's still best I hide you but I can only hold you for a few hours". Finnick nodded "I know, if we could just rest for the night that's all we need". Feather sighed "you're lucky you were my favourite" he said and then spotted you glaring at him. He smiled "friend of yours?" he asked Finnick, looking down at how your hand was clamped over Finnick's arm and you'd angled your body so you were in front of him protectively. "Something like that" Finnick smiled "do you have any supplies? We're a bit banged up". Feather nodded "of course, let me grab some things and I'll show you to your room. I'm sorry to stick you in the basement but it's the safest place". You tensed at the idea of going underground again and struggled when Feather opened a trap door that led to darkness. You weren't sure if you could down it but Finnick took your hand. "It's be okay" he told you and taking a deep breath you went down the steps.
The basement was small, cold but filled with things so at least it didn't look bleak or scary. There was a sofa in one end which Feather placed his supplies on. "So this is your bed for the night. It's my old one, nothing wrong with it I just had to move it once a stain got on it. Velvet is so hard to get stains out of!" he complained and you blinked. You couldn't tell if you were more annoyed that he was genuinely mad about stains in a world that killed children or more disgusted about what the stain might be. Luckily Finnick was a social butterfly.
"Thank you so much Feather, this will be great". Feather nodded clearly fond of praise "I will go get you some blankets, I've given you some warm clothes but it is awfully chilly down here. Be back in a few!" and he disappeared cheerily up the steps.
"Right okay so lets assess your injuries" Finnick said turning to you expectantly with his hands on his hips. "I'm okay" you said and Finnick shot you a "really" look making you roll your eyes. "Fine, I hurt my knee earlier and think it could swell, I also rolled my ankle and it's still bothering me a bit, my hip also took a knock and I'm missing two fingernails that were ripped off". Finnick nodded "let me take a look at your legs first". You nodded and Finnick peeled off your trousers before wincing. Already your hip had a nasty bruise on it and your knee was swelling. "Yeah there's no way you're walking tomorrow" Finnick winced "good thing I've got experience carrying people". You shook your head "no way! It leaves you exposed! I'll walk just fine after a bit of rest". Finnick shook his head "maybe with a wheelchair yeah because by tomorrow this ankle will be huge and painful. There's no use arguing over it, I saved your life remember so you owe me". "I mean technically by jumping down that ladder I probably also saved your life so aren't we even?" you tried to joke but Finnick wasn't in a joking mood.
He grabbed you and kissed you sharply and passionately. When he separated he didn't let go. "I am not losing you Y/n, we just got through the craziest night of our lives and I am not surviving all that to lose you tomorrow. Don't do that to me" he demanded but it sounded more like he was begging. His eyes were ablaze with anger and sadness and you immediately backed down. "Okay" you agreed "okay, we'll work it out tomorrow" and you cradled him to you. Finnick buried his head in your neck taking some deep breaths before nodding and pulling away.
He sat back and nodded to you "now let me help you get cleaned up". Finnick cleaned the cuts and wounds you had and then helped you get changed. He bandaged your ankle the best he could and put some soothing gel on your hip and knee before helping you get dressed. You then switched and did the same for him. His body was okay but he was covered in scratches and bruises. Some of the scratches were quite deep and you disinfected them hoping they wouldn't need stitches. Finnick was just getting changed when there was a knock at the door.
"Delivery service!" Feather called "so I've got several blankets" which he tossed to Finnick "and also some food". "Feather you're amazing!" Finnick gasped grabbing a bowl and passing it straight to you. "Oh it's nothing! Just some soup and bread my chief made. I figured it might warm you up". "It will thank you" Finnick smiled sinking next to you and Feather smiled. He genuinely seemed pleased to see Finnick again and you supposed there must be some good in this man deep down despite the things he did. He waited for you both to finish your soup which didn't take long and then took the bowls.
"Right so it's mandatory lights out in 10 minutes do you guys need anything else before I lock you in". "Lock us in?" you asked panicked and Feather looked at you "It's a trap door I can't just keep it open! If the peacekeepers break in they'll find you straight away and we'll all be dead. The safest way is to hide the door completely and yes lock you in". You still didn't like the idea of it but Finnick touched your arm "that's fine, we'll be fine. Thank you again". The man nodded "see you in the morning" and left. Seconds later the sound of a sharp click told you, you were sealed in.
"Hey Y/n it's okay" Finnick said reaching out for you and pulling you into his chest "we're fine, we're safe and we're not in the sewers". You buried your head against him and he repeated this a few more times before you stopped shaking. When you lifted your head you realised it wasn't exactly pitch black. You could see some outlines of things and Finnick. You played with his hands and nodded "we're okay, we're alright, we're safe and have somewhere to sleep for the night". Finnick nodded "exactly" and kissed your head "and I know this sounds horrible but I'm so glad you're here". You chuckled and Finnick laughed too "I just mean, if I could have anyone here with me I'd want it to be you". You nodded "yeah I get that, even though it's terrifying I feel better because you're here". Finnick nodded pressing his face into your hair. "We'll get through this" he said "we'll survive it and when we do, you and I are moving far away from all this and just living". You smiled "tell me more about this great escape we're going on". Even though it was dark you could tell Finnick was smiling.
"We'll move near the ocean" he told you "we'll live just off the beach and spend our days fishing, surfing, swimming and doing whatever the hell we want. We'll spend our evenings sitting around a campfire, listening to music and we'll have the ocean to lull us to sleep every night. You'll see the most amazing sunsets and sunrises and have the most amazing beach make-out sessions. Trust me beaches are the best places for that". "You've had lots of experience with that huh?" You asked and Finnick shushed you with a kiss. When you were too breathless to speak he continued "we'll workout on the sand, build sand castles, float for hours on end and the best part? It will be just the two of us and it will be perfect" he told you. "I like that" you whispered "I want that, especially the nobody else being around part...but we'll probably have to have a spare hut for when Johanna gets bored and decides to appear at our doorstep". Finnick nodded "oh yeah there's no way we're keeping your sister out". "She'd come through the door with an axe like that old movie, here's Johanna!" you said and Finnick chuckled. "Well as long as you're there too I think I can handle your sister". You smirked "those are bold words, I'm related to her and I can't even handle her" and Finnick laughed. "We'll double team it there, figure it out together" he turned you to face him and you could just make out his eyes in the dark, "Together" you agreed and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. You separated and lay tightly together, praying the sun would never rise.

let me go | finnick odair
Tumblr media
↳ finnick odair x reader x annie x gabs
↳ warnings : emotion, basically that
↳ summary : first, finnick was called. then gabs was called. annie knew how special gabs was to finnick, so she volunteered. you knew that annie was to important to finnick, so you volunteered.
↳ a/n : annie is reader's sister, and annie's dating finnick
------------------------------------------------------------
"finnick odair." effie announced.
you heared a quick gasp and sob from the back. heads were turned, only to find annie on her knees with her hand covering her mouth.
you turned to the side and saw finnick walking up, looking towards annie's direction. his face was in utter guilt, and he knew that he couldn't do anything about it.
you've been best friends with finnick for forever, and you always suspected that annie and finnick had a thing. to your surprise, they started dating a year ago.
their gonna be a forever couple, you knew it. you could tell by the way annie talks about him, and the way he looks at her.
you had to turn away, still wishing yourself that you wouldn't get called.
effie stuck her hand in the bown and ruffled her hand a little bit. she opened the note and widened her eyes slightly. she went up to the mic.
"mags flanagan."
your body did a jump at the sound of her name. oh god. mags was the most important person to finnick, other than annie.
everyone stared at mags as she walked down, all wondering how an old lady can do this. you looked at finnick's face, seeing the utter horror.
"no no no." you heared someone whisper to the back of you. you didn't think much of it.
"wait NO!!" you heared annie yell. every single person turned and watched.
annie left the crowd and went to the middle, where the guards were already blocking her. "please-" she sobbed.
"i volunteer!! please!!" she sobbed and went on her knees.
"not mags.." she whisper-sobbed, yet everyone could hear her.
it was utterly heartbreaking. annie's family was sobbing, finnick was about to break down, and you yourself felt like tearing up.
"well then." effie clears her throat. "we have a volunteer!!"
no one clapped at her attempt of happiness.
"NO ANNIE PLEASE DON'T" finnick yelled.
"I HAVE TO FINNICK." annie was stumbling and crying as she walked up to the stage.
"annie- i can't lose you.." he cried. "please~"
you both looked at them. if they both had to go in, one of them would have to die. it would be so heartbreaking for each of them. no one knew them like you did, and you made the biggest decision ever.
"ANNIE STOP." you yelled from across the crowd.
she stopped walking up the stage, giving you a 'what the heck are you doing' look.
"i volunteer as tribute." you said loudly.
you heared your mom cry from a distance, but you were to emotional to look back.
"no y/n-"
you cut annie off, "no annie get back. i'm going. not you. please trust me on this one"
she still stood there, but not for long as the guards grabbed her and took her back to the crowd. they held both her arms as she fought ficiously trying to escape.
as the guardsms were taking her back, you walked forward. before passing her, you went in front of her and grabbed her face.
you connected your forhead with hers and whispered, "ill bring him back home for you, i promise."
she sniffed, "i love you, don't die on me out there.. okay?"
you nodded quickly , "i promise."
you two separted as you walked up the stage. you caught a glimpse of finnick's face. once again, utter horror.
"my my, never knew so many people wanted to join." effie chuckled. "well then, our new tributes for the annual 75th hunger games!!"
music started playing as the door behind you opened and the tributes started to go back home. you and finnick walked next to each other, your gaze stiff and foward.
"why did you do that..?" finnick said softly.
you still didnt look at him. "i want you to come home safe for annie."
you were trying not to cry with those words, but you kept strong, focused on your mission of trying to keep finnick alive. he was strong, but you were a little bit stronger.
he gave you one last guilty look before facing foward. as you two walked, every happy memory flashed in your mind.
welcome to the 75th hunger games.

Cardigan ~ Finnick Odair
(August) (Betty)
Tumblr media
Annie Cresta
Everything was perfect, until it wasn’t. We met at the academy when we were kids. I was the sweet girl with the fire red hair and he was the golden boy in the grade above mine. He definitely had a crush on me but was too nervous to do anything about it. The feeling was mutual, however, he assumed I knew nothing about his feelings.
When he won his games at 14, he stopped attending school but still made time to see me. I’d be at his house almost every day and we’d go to the beach together on weekends. We started officially dating a year later.
A few days after his 16th birthday things took a turn in our relationship. His parents were lost in a boating accident and his grief made him distant. He spent most of his days drinking in his house or being flown out to the capital for victor things. I’d even find him drunk wandering the streets at night, slumped under the streetlights of District 4.
During one of his capital trips, I decided to clean his house for him as a surprise. I threw away all the empty bottles and swept the entire house. By the time I was done, the place was spotless.
What I was not expecting was for him to return home covered in hickeys. I confronted him about it and he broke down crying, explaining that he had to do things in the capital that he didn’t want to but if he said no then more people would die. We stayed together despite this. He loved me more than anything and was only doing these things to protect me.
Three years later I was reaped for the games. Finnick had messed up with one of his clients so Snow rigged the drawing. He was devastated but I promised him I would win and come home to him.
A month later, I sat on the floor of my new house in victors village, a shell of my former self. I thought I was a strong person but the games were my breaking point. Between seeing Caspian be decapitated and nearly being killed by the careers I could barely live with myself.
Finnick made me move in with him after my games, despite me having my own house. He did his best to make me feel better but nothing could make me better. I would go days without sleeping, bursting into hysterics at any sudden noises. He had to force feed me and bathe me as I was incapable of doing these things myself.
Every night, he would hold me and kiss my scars, telling me how much I meant to him and how I was his favorite. I’d be wearing one of his old tee shirts from his dad while he slept beside me, occasionally waking up to check on me.
During my victory tour, I was forced to go to the capital. Luckily Snow didn’t want to sell me but I had to spend a week in horribly high heels and tight dresses doing interviews and attending events. Finnick was with me the whole way but we had to hide our relationship from the capital.
The near perfection was ruined when he said we needed some time apart a few weeks after the 72nd games. I asked him if it was because of Snow but he wouldn’t give me any answers. Broken, I moved in with Mags and attempted to fill the void in my heart.
“Why?” Is all I could ask him.
“I just need some time,” he answered.
“Is that what you want?” I retort.
“Yes!” he exclaimed.
He left, leaving me to sit and cry in the cardigan he knit me with Mags the year prior. Deep down I knew he’d be back.

This was part 1 of the miniseries! August will be part 2 and Betty will be part 3 :)

@lovely-tothe-bone requested a story based on this post, and what m'lady wants m'lady gets ;).
Featuring bi! Peeta, everlark, and some Finnick/Peeta shenanigans.
Finnick’s eyes were sparkling with mischievousness and glee as he approached Peeta from the side, sidling up to his friend. Peeta glanced at the students behind them as Finnick threw an arm around his shoulder and pulled him into his side. “Please don’t start,” he muttered to Finnick, catching Katniss’s eye and looking away. This was not how he’d planned on telling her.
“You’re the one who agreed to simulate fellatio on a statue, though.”
“And why I did, I’m not sure,” Peeta grumbled. "It was a really stupid dare."
“Yeah, kind of surprised me too,” Finnick whispered not quietly enough as their Intro To Art History class filed out of the museum. “Besides, all I’m saying is you knew how to show that statue a good time. That’s it.”
“Shut up, Finn.”
“Don’t look so glum. At least it was only Katniss who walked in on you mid-sucking marble dick. You never know, maybe she’s into that.” Finnick shoved Peeta lightly away. “There’s Annie. I gotta catch up to her. Talk to you later?”
“Yeah, sure. Later, man.”
Finnick turned around and finger-gunned him in farewell. “Later.”
Peeta slowed down, allowing most of the classmates behind him to pass, waiting for Katniss. She met up with him, slipping her hand into his. They lingered, letting the rest of the class get farther ahead. “Hey gorgeous,” he greeted her, squeezing her fingers.
“Hey,” Katniss responded shyly. They had been dating for about three weeks, and it was going really well. Peeta hadn’t ever felt like anyone else like he did with her—like she just innately got him. They weren’t rushing into things, though. He didn’t want to be that guy love-bombing the girl he was into.
“Enjoy your trip to the museum?” Peeta asked quietly.
“Yes. I saw you back there, you know,” Katniss teased him.
Peeta laughed under his breath. “Yeah, I know you did. I’m surprised you didn’t run away screaming after getting an eyeful of my mouth on a marble dick.”
“It seemed unsanitary,” Katniss said, rolling her eyes.
“Don’t worry. I wiped it off with sanitizer first.”
“Somehow, that’s even pervier, like you were starting things out with a hand job.”
Peeta laughed. “Maybe I was. Who’s to say?”
“I don’t think anyone else saw, though. You’re secret is safe with me.”
“Yeah, that’s what Finnick said. He also said it looked like I knew what I was doing,” Peeta told her, running his hand that wasn’t in hers through his hair nervously.
Katniss snorted. “Well, I wasn’t going to bring it up, but yeah, you did look like you knew what you were doing. I think. I don’t know. I’ve never actually done that before.”
“You’ve never?” Peeta trailed off, poking his tongue against his cheek and holding his hand in a circle in front of his mouth.
“No, I’ve never given a blow job. Is that weird?”
“No, no, that’s cool,” he glanced her way. “I wouldn’t ask you to do anything you didn’t want to do, by the way.”
“It’s not that I don’t, exactly. I mean, I might want to try it with you eventually. I’m a little intrigued by the idea.”
Peeta would not let himself dwell on the idea that Katniss was intrigued with the idea of giving him a blow job. This was his opportunity to tell her. He couldn’t let arousal get in the way. “Well, I have,” he admitted.
Katniss stopped walking, looking at him, obvious confusion in her expression. “You’ve—”
Peeta shrugged. “You know,” he stuck his tongue against his cheek again and held his hand up. “Given a blow job. That’s why it looked like I knew what I was doing. Because I did.” He dropped his hand and the humor, nervously waiting for her response.
“You’re gay?” Katniss whispered, looking no less confused than before he expounded.
“Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. And I use the term bisexual.”
“Oh.”
“I’ve wanted to tell you for a while. I just wasn’t sure how. Walking in on me giving oral to a statue was as good as any, which is Finnick’s fault, by the way, because he dared me. Never would have done that on my own.”
Katniss laughed nervously.
“I just didn’t want to freak you out,” Peeta admitted.
Katniss’s expression cleared, and she moved closer to him, standing on her tiptoes and pressing her lips to his. “It doesn't freak me out. As long as you’re only dating me, I don’t care who else you’re attracted to. I don’t like to share,” she said. “I get jealous pretty easily.”
“I don’t want to share you with anyone, either. I like you so much, Katniss.”
“I like you too.” Katniss dropped to her feet and started walking again. “And I’m starving. Want to go get a milkshake or something?”
“Love to.”

Tiger Shark
Part 3: The Crown
Chapter 17
After several minutes, Jade and Coral join our embrace, crying with happiness. I can’t blame them, I am too. And then Rizz and the crew are there, pounding me on the back, shaking hands, hugging. A whole string of my teachers welcome me back. Everyone who lives on my street is there, and at the end of it all, Mako’s parents.
I’m not sure how to approach them, but Mrs. Silther hugs me tightly. She is crying, but says, “I’m glad one of you came home. I don’t know what we would have done if we lost you both.”
Mr. Silther hugs me as well. He stays quiet, but this doesn’t surprise me.
Slowly, the crowd disburses until it is only Dad, Coral, Jade, Finnick, Mags, and me left. The cameras are there too, but they quit recording a while ago and are now packing up.
Dad looks around at those of us still there. “I made supper,” he says. “It’s not Capitol fare, but it’s fresh and homemade.”
I don’t know why I expected Finnick to drop me like a hot rock when we got back to Four, but I did, so it surprises me when he says, “Nothing could sound better right now than some real food from home.”
Mags nods, and there was never any doubt that Jade and Coral would join us for supper, so we all walk back together, through the streets it feels like I haven’t seen in years. I can’t help but smiling the whole time. Coral and Jade babble endlessly about all the important happenings while I was gone. Perrin and Lora broke up. Coral was accepted into an honors program at the teacher-training center. Jade is now managing the net shop. One of our teachers, Mr. Conchran, announced his retirement after the upcoming school year.
When we get home, I let everyone else file in first. Except Finnick, who refuses to leave me outside. So I walk in and do exactly what I knew I would. I sink to the floor and cry. They are tears of sadness, of relief, of finally being able to feel everything I haven’t had the chance to feel since the last time I was here. And once again, Finnick Odair surprises me. He sits down next to me and puts an arm around my shoulders and lets me cry myself out.
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
At some point, my mind must have slipped away again, because I hear Finnick only vaguely.
“Annie? Can you hear me? Supper’s almost ready, Annie, you’d better come back or it’ll be cold.”
Blinking, I turn back to him. For some reason, I had been looking at the door off to my left. Finnick is sitting in front of me, hands on my shoulders, still talking.
“Annie, I think your dad said he made spicy tuna rolls. Can’t get those fresh in the Capitol, can you Annie?”
I blink again, shaking my head. I take a deep breath. “How long…?”
Finnick lets out a relieved sigh, but he still looks concerned. “At least five minutes.”
I nod slowly. “That’s not ideal.”
“No, not really. But I do think supper is just about ready, if you feel up for it.”
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
Dad has indeed made spicy tuna rolls. He has also made samphire salad, fried shrimp, and salmon and rice. Out of habit, I find myself looking for my nutritional guidelines. Remembering that there aren’t any, I smile and pile my plate with food. I sit at one end of the table with Jade and Coral on either side. Finnick sits next to Jade and strikes up a conversation with my father, which is good because I think Jade would die if he talked to her.
Over supper, they ask me about the Capitol, the week of training that I’m technically not supposed to talk about, but they have now aged out of the reaping, and none of us have younger siblings we could talk to (I also don’t think it would really be an unfair advantage to know about the training center, because the only “secret” knowledge I really have is what stations there were, and they might not even be the same next year), and the Victory Banquet. I am telling them about the carrot cake when Dad announces dessert.
“It’s not fancy, but again, it’s fresh,” and he produces three pineapples from the refrigerator.
I have never before been so excited to see a pineapple. We eat all of them.
After supper, Jade and Coral announce that they are spending the night. This is clearly not news to my father. They probably planned it the minute they found out I won.
Finnick thanks Dad for the delicious meal, then says he and Mags will be back in the morning, and for as many days after as we need, to help with the move. Truthfully, I had forgotten that I am now the proud owner of a house in Victor’s Village. I thank them in advance. After they leave, Dad anticipates my question. “Of course we’re keeping this house. I’m turning it into my office. Can’t take the docks anymore. Getting too crowded down there.”
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
Coral, Jade, and I all pile into my bed that night.
“Okay, we have to know, what’s he like?” Jade says.
“Who?”
“Finnick!” she squeaks as Coral says, “Gloss, obviously!”
I laugh. “You’ll have to take turns.”
“Okay, fine,” Coral sighs. “Start with Finnick.”
“He puts his pants on just like the rest of us: one leg at a time.”
“You what?” Jade splutters.
“I’m kidding! I have never seen Odair He Is without pants, nor do I want to. But he is actually very normal.”
“Oh come on Annie, give us something,” Jade sighs dramatically.
“What do you want me to tell you? I spent three weeks in the arena and another week and a half drugged up and in isolation while the doctor tried to get me as recuperated as she could. And for the week we spent at the training center, Mako was there too.” It sounds a little aggressive now that I’m saying it out loud.
Coral sits up and stares intently at me. “Annie, we haven’t forgotten Mako. How could we? How could anyone? We’re not trying to discount him or ignore what happened or anything like that. We just want to talk to our friend. We missed you so much, and we were afraid you might not come back, but now you’re here, and we just want to spend time with you, and talk, and take your mind off all the horrible things you’ve been through.”
“I’m not that person anymore. The girl who went into the arena… she didn’t come out.”
“Yes she did.” Jade puts an arm around my shoulders. “She’s just different. But we’re still here for her, and we still want to be her friends, if she’ll let us.”
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
I wake up early the next morning. For the briefest moment, I am confused. This isn’t the Tribute Center. Then I remember. I am home. Finally.
I creep out of my room and down the hallway. Dad doesn’t seem to be up yet either. I close the front door softly behind me and make my way to the pier.
The tide is in, so I sit and dangle my toes in the water as the sun rises behind me. I sit until other people begin to arrive at the beach. Families with small children on their way to splash in the waves, a group of teenagers playing ball in the sand, a few old men fishing off the pier.
I wander home. It is midmorning by the time I arrive. The fishing company’s truck is parked outside, already partially loaded. Apparently I missed the mayor coming to give me the keys to my house in Victor’s Village. He left them with Dad. Coral and Jade are boxing up the kitchen. Mags is in the living room, folding and packing a pile of clothes on the sofa that looks like my father’s entire wardrobe.
I stand, watching her, until someone says, “’Scuse me.” It is Finnick, backing down the hallway carrying half of Dad’s dresser. Dad is at the other end.
“Sorry,” I mumble, stepping into the living room.
Mags gestures at the pile of shirts in front of her.
I shake my head. “I’m gonna start on my room.”
She gives me a little smile and nod, then goes back to work.
I drift to my room. There are a few empty boxes on the bed, waiting for me to fill them. I move the clothes from my dresser and empty my few shelves of books, picture frames, and knickknacks, then begin wrapping the breakable stuff in shirts and packing it all away. I am about half done when I find the picture of Mako and me from last winter. We are standing on the pier, about to jump in on a dare. We will emerge freezing, but in the photo we are smiling and laughing, arm in arm. I hear the cold slice of metal.
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
I don’t know how long I was out, but Mags is here, holding my hands and humming gentle songs when I come back to myself. She wordlessly helps me pack until the boxes are full, then we carry them out to the truck. When the truck is full, Dad drives it to the new house. The rest of us walk.
The house is beautiful. And much bigger than we will ever need, but the Capitol has taken so much away from me this doesn’t even feel like it begins to cover their debt. The kitchen is far fancier than what we had before, with a separate dining room. Across the hall is a big living room and a study, and upstairs there are four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and another, smaller, study.
I am not allowed to be in a room by myself anymore. At least that is what I gather, from the way there is always someone tagging along with me. I carry boxes into all rooms of the house, and there is always someone there. When my father and Finnick deposit my dresser in my new bedroom, Mags appears behind them to help me unpack my boxes. When I organize my books in the upstairs study, Jade is there hanging pictures. When I try to hide, exhausted, in an empty bedroom, my father finds me almost immediately and sits with me, telling me mindless stories about what has been going on in the world of fishing since the reaping.
When all the boxes are empty, we go back to the old house to pack the rest. Some things stay there: Dad’s big desk and work ledgers, a few pots and pans, the old couch, some blankets and pillows. But everything else is going to the new house.
Coral and I are in the spare room. She is folding sheets. I am packing the last of my mother’s old things, sitting on the floor in the closet when I feel my mind beginning to go blank again. It is a horrible sinking feeling, but I am helpless against the thunder of the buffalo herd.
~~~                               ~~~                               ~~~
This time it is Finnick sitting against the other wall of the closet.
“…burned like a lungful of ocean. So next time he offered, I had to politely decline, and ever since then he hasn’t been my biggest fan. Anyway, that’s why you should never drink anything Haymitch offers. Unless you saw someone else pour it.” He glances at me and smiles. “Hey.”
“Hey,” I rasp.
The box I was packing is gone. Actually, everything is gone. But I don’t have the mental energy to puzzle it out.
“I don’t know what to do,” I say quietly, the words sticking in my dry throat.
“And I’m not sure how to help. I wish I could, but believe it or not, I don’t know what to do either.”
We sit for a long minute before I say, “How long was it?”
He shrugs. “Coral came out in a panic and said you just clammed up. So I sat with you while they finished up and drove back to the new house.”
“So a long time.”
“Yeah.”
The closet is too small for both of us. Even with my knees curled to my chest, Finnick’s knees are next to them, pointing toward the other wall. But neither of us moves to get up.
“I can’t live the rest of my life like this.”
“It’s hard to come back. I know. You have all these people here for you, trying to support you and love you and take care of you, but no matter how much they sympathize, they don’t know.” He pauses. “And that just makes you feel even more alone.”
We lapse back into silence, but it isn’t long before I start hearing them again. Even though I know it won’t help, I clamp my hands over my ears and curl myself even tighter into a ball.

Had a few asks for a sneak peek of the next chapter for The Tutor, so here is part of Ch.8 from Annie’s POV. Unedited, of course. Enjoy!
+++
“So, how’d she take it?”
“Huh?”
“Madge,” he hedged, slightly joking edge to his voice. “About the ski trip. I saw her grilling you.”
“Oh. She’s disappointed, but she understood,” I said with a light smile. “Can’t really argue with the ballerina excuse.”
“Yeah, guess not,” he snorted before letting his head fall back against the headrest. “But, I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed too.”
Now, I knew I was blushing. Heat that had nothing to do with the car temperature crept up my neck and I cursed the feeling. Cursed him for making me feel this way despite trying so hard not to.
“You are?”
“Yeah,” he swallowed. “I always have fun when you’re around.”
“Oh.”
“Oh?” he chuckled, the sound soft, so different from the loud and rambunctious one earlier at Sae’s.
“I…guess that surprised me.”
“Why?” he asked, eyebrows pinched and I felt my hands unconsciously rubbing back and forth over my thighs before I shrugged, unable to give him an answer.
“I have fun with you too,” I finally said, making him smile.
“Well, if you change your mind…”
“I won’t.”
“Yeah,” he smirked. “I guess you won’t.”
We drove back to the dorms, but when Finnick pulled up in front of the main door, I didn’t make an immediate move to leave. Instead, I stayed buckled in the passenger seat, fiddling with the bag on my lap, unwilling to look at him.
“Thanks for inviting me tonight. Greasy Sae’s wasn’t so bad.”
“Not so bad?” he groaned. “You’re impossible. But I’m glad I could be the one to pop your Sae cherry.”
“You’re filthy.”
“You knew this already.”
“Yeah,” I sighed. “I suppose I did.”
And I was too, because I felt foolishly desperate to see more of his filth. But maybe that was just the beer talking. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had more than half a glass of wine.
“I guess I should go.”
“Yeah,” he said quietly, green eyes piercing into mine as he stared back at me. “It’s late.”
“Thanks again.”
“No problem, Anabel.” The use of my full name made him smile. “I guess maybe we’ll see each other around, then?”
I hated how noncommittal it sounded. Like, if no effort was made the only place I might see those glowing green eyes again was on a television screen. But, that was always how this was supposed to end, wasn’t it? A few ballet lessons to get him back up to speed and then we part ways. I get my life back, he gets his career back. It was always the plan. I used to count down the days until this moment came.
Now, I felt myself wishing somehow there would be more.
“Yeah,” I said, unbuckling myself from his car. “I’ll see you around.”
It all felt so...wrong.

I'll be back- Finnick x reader
Tumblr media
Summary- Finnick and his SO say goodbye to each other before he leaves for the Quarter Quell
Pairings- Finnick x GN!reader
Warnings-none?
Suggestion from @badrepwonder
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 75th year of The Hunger Games. And it was written in the charter of The Games that every 25 years, there would be a Quarter Quell to keep fresh for each generation, the memory of those who died in the uprising against The Capitol. Each Quarter Quell is distinguished by Games of a special significance. And now on this the 75th anniversary of our defeat of the rebellion, we celebrate the 3rd Quarter Quell.” The crowd loudly filled the background. The president looked down at the small paper in his hands. “As a reminder that even the strongest cannot overcome the power of The Capitol. In this, the 3rd Quarter Quell Games, the male and female Tributes are to be reaped from the existing pool of Victors in each district. Victors should present themselves on reaping day, regardless of age, state of health, or situation.
The horrid day finally came. Everyone from District 4 gathered at the Hall of Justice. All of the Victors stood onstage. Men on one side, women on the other. I watched as my fiancé, Finnick, scanned the crowd for me. When our eyes locked, he winked with a small smirk on his lips. Even at a time like this he found a way to be flirty. It was kind of his way of masking his fears.
I mean who knows, maybe he won’t even be reaped. We could have nothing to worry about. We could still have the beautiful wedding we both intended to have in a few weeks. The ceremony started just as every reaping did. The opening video felt different this time around. I dreaded for it to end. “As usual, ladies first,” the announcer said in an obnoxiously cheery voice.
She swirled her hand around the glass fishbowl. “Annie Cresta,” a scream erupted from the redhead's mouth. My heart broke for her. That poor girl couldn’t handle going to the arena again. Mags, Finnick’s mentor, motioned for herself. She just volunteered for Annie. Finnick and I shared the same sad surprised look.
She practically raised Finnick. I looked at the ground to avoid tearing up. Someone had to help her over to her spot. She was far too old and arthritis ridden to do it alone. “Now for the gentlemen,” the announcer walked to the fishbowl to the left of her. I wanted to open my eyes and have all of this be one big dream. “Finnick Odair,” the announcer read into the microphone.
I felt the urge to vomit. The floor began to sway beneath me. Finnick was going back into the arena. When I looked up, he didn’t have a nervous look on his face. He was smiling and waving at the cameras as he stepped up. He was so good at hiding his emotions for the camera. I knew inside, he was screaming.
I suddenly felt like we were 14 years old again. I was down here and he was up there. I would have to watch the parade, the interview, him in the arena nearly losing his life. All while I was here, in the district, waiting for him. I was going to have 3 minutes to say goodbye to him. The rest of the ceremony was a blur. I wanted to get to Finnick as fast as possible.
I wanted to have every second I could with him. I sprinted into Justice Hall to find his room. He was standing by the window when I walked in. I nearly knocked him over when I ran to him. None of us said anything for a minute. We stood there, taking each other in. Tears pricked my eyes as we stood there.
I buried my face deeper into his chest. I didn’t want him to know I was crying.
“I’ve done it before, you know.”
“I know. I’m not worried.”
“If only that were true.”
“How can I not worry? The love of my life is going into the arena yet again.”
“I’ll be back yet again. I’m not dying until I marry you, remember?”
“Yes, I remember.” I looked up into his sea-green eyes.
I seemed to have fallen in love with him all over again. He wiped the stray tear coming down from my eye. I stood on my tiptoes to kiss him. I was hoping it wasn’t the last time I was getting the opportunity. If he didn’t make it, how was I supposed to make it? “Alright, times up.” A peacekeeper stood in the doorway.
I pulled away from our last possible kiss to look into his eyes.
“I love you, Finnick Odair.”
“And I love you, (Y/N) Odair.”

I’m sorry (Hunger Games)
Masterlist
Request form and prompt list
(Y/N) - Your name
Plot - (Y/N) was captured by the capitol and somehow manages to escape, but their former best friend, Finnick, and the Mockingjay are mad at them because they couldn’t save Peeta and Annie. (Y/N) volunteers to go on the mission to save Peeta, Annie, and Johanna from the capitol.
Warning - Super angsty, mentions of blood, torture, violence and gun shots
“...So, any volunteers?” President Coin asks everyone around the table. Gale Hawthorne is the first to raise his hand. “I’ll go,” he says.
The gloomy atmosphere of the room shifts to one of caution when I speak for the first time in two weeks. “I’ll go too,”
I can’t bear any more of the cold looks of my former best friend. And the glares from the Mockingjay. Was it really my fault that I managed to escape from the capitol? I saw my chance and took it. Being tortured for months was not a good experience and I got out as soon as I could.
I thought my ex-best friend would be happy to see me, but the only thing I see when I look in his eyes is pure hatred for me, pure hatred at the fact that I couldn’t save the love of his life, Annie. Not me, Annie.
Everyone looks at me, shocked at the fact that I’d volunteered to go back to the place that I was imprisoned and tortured. Everyone but Finnick. I looked at him. He avoided my gaze. Surprise.
Sighing, I exited the room, not even waiting for the meeting to be finished. I head back to my room, and look through my things once again, in case I won’t make it back.
I take out the box of my belongings from my district. I picked up the fishing hook that my father gave me the day before he was killed by Snow. I clutched it in my hand and continued looking through the box. The next thing was a necklace, my older sister’s necklace.
I tied it around my neck and observed it through the mirror my mother had bought for my 15th birthday. The last thing that lay in the box was a picture. The picture of me and Finnick back when we were kids.
I had just jumped on Finnick’s back and he ran around like crazy. My sister had taken a picture with her brand new camera which was gifted to her by our parents for her 13th birthday. She lost the camera and I remember looking for it for days and when it didn’t turn up, she cried a lot, feeling like she had betrayed our parents by losing the camera.
One evening, I couldn’t bear to see my sister crying anymore, so I had stomped over to Finnick’s house, dragged him out and made him help me search for it. We had decided to split up and cover more ground, but I got lost.
I tried finding my way back, but I couldn't, eventually, the sun started setting and I found a huge oak tree under which I took shade. My stomach grumbled out of hunger, and me being the 7-year-old I was, had started crying and drifted off into an uncomfortable slumber.
A few hours later, I was shaken awake by Finnick. “Hey, (Y/N), wake up,” He then noticed the tear stains on my face and pulled me into a hug. “Why were you crying?” He asked me. “I got lost, and I was so alone and I got scared,” I admitted to him.
He pulled out of the hug, keeping his hands on my shoulders, and said, “I’m sorry. I won’t ever let you get lost again. If you somehow do still manage to get lost, come to this tree, okay? And I will find you, I promise,”
“Promise?” I asked again. “I promise to always be there for you no matter what!” He says and goes to hold my hand. “I promise to always hold this hand,”
I smiled at him, and he led the way home.
He broke the promise. He broke the promise when he let me be taken by the capitol. Blinking the tears away, I set everything back in the box.
I felt a sudden urge to throw up and ran to the bathroom in my room and coughed out blood. This had been happening for a while now. I thought it was because of the torture that was inflicted upon me, but now, I’m not too sure.
I wash myself up and go to sit on my bed, trying to calm down.
I hear a knock on my door, and I stand up and open the door a crack so no one could even look in. It was Gale.
“We’re leaving tomorrow morning, and we’re meeting for the briefing in an hour,” He said. I simply nodded and shut the door on his face.

We all are geared up and waiting for everyone in the airborne division. We board the hovercraft and take off.
Everyone looks anxious. The hovercraft feels a little more crowded than I like with 7 people aboard. The red lights flashing doesn’t help the nervous energy in the air... Some people are reviewing the plans with each other and I see Gale looking over at me.
I look away and close my eyes, trying to prepare my mind for what I’m about to witness again.
Once we reached there, we entered through a secret passageway that we were informed about through our earpiece. We took out the two guards who were standing guard to the prison area.
One of the people took out a gadget and started to press some buttons, but I wasn’t concentrating, just trying to get myself mentally ready.
The doors opened with a loud hiss, revealing the huge chamber with cells. Everything was white, reminding me of the times when I was trapped in here with nothing else to look at.
All the memories of the place came rushing back.
I was sitting on the floor, clutching my head in an attempt to stop the immense pain traveling through my veins. I hear evil laughter and when I look up, I see Snow. “So, are you ready to speak now?” He asked. “Never!” I spat at him. “Increase it to the highest level,” he said to no one, but I knew that there were people watching and listening from the CCTV cameras, and immediately, the pain intensified by 20 times. I screamed so loud, the whole of Panem probably heard me. When the pain finally died down a bit, my throat was sore by how much I had screamed.
I was snapped back into reality when Gale snapped his fingers in front of me. I noticed that the alarm was triggered and red lights were blaring. I noticed that we have Peeta, Annie, and Johanna with us now and we were heading back to the hovercraft.
I stayed at the back of the group in case a peacekeeper came to attack and followed the rest out through a different passage.
Suddenly, I heard a few shouts “This way! They’re here,” followed by some gunshots. Everyone in front of me was running now, we turned right and hid behind the wall.
I spun around, signaling the others to continue going, and shot at the peacekeepers. They were shooting back of course, but I had a much better aim. I felt pressure in my abdomen and I shot down the last person.
I looked down to see I had been shot, but I covered it with my t-shirt and turned to follow the others.
I managed to jog back to the hovercraft without fainting, although the loss of blood was making me lightheaded. They were trying to get Peeta to trust them and board the hovercraft but he wouldn’t budge.
I couldn’t stand anymore and I collapsed on a seat in the hovercraft. I put my hand on the wound and pressed down on it, hoping to slow the blood flow.
“(Y/N), would you come and help-! What happened!?” I heard someone say in the distance, but I couldn’t make out who it was. I kept drifting in and out of consciousness.
It felt like hours till we made it back to district 13 and I was rushed to an emergency room. They didn’t have any sedatives on hand so they had to take out the bullet with me awake.
The pain was building up now that the adrenaline rush was gone. I couldn’t remember much that happened, just that fact that I was blinded from the pain, I had clenched my fists, trying to somehow grab something, and I heard beeps around me before I completely went out of consciousness.
Once I woke up, the doctors told me that it had been almost a week since the mission. When I had asked them if someone came to visit, they said no. I thought Finnick would come. I thought we were best friends. I thought-
I don’t know why I thought that anymore. If me taking a bullet for his love isn’t enough, I don’t know what else I can do for him. I might as well give up.
No one cares about me. I turned my head so that the doctor couldn’t see the tears threatening to spill from my eyes. I looked down at my hand, the same one Finnick always promised to hold. If he really was my best friend, he would have been there when they were removing the bullet, holding my hand, but he was probably celebrating with Annie.
No one needs me. After my family was killed, no one loved me. No one cared about me and no one needed me.
“We need to run a few more tests on you today, then you can rest,” The doctor told me. I nodded okay. “Doctor, how many days will I have to stay here for?” I asked him.
“You have very bad injuries and it might take more than a month to heal. If the test results are showing that you have another illness, then, we can’t tell until we figure out what you are diagnosed with,”
By the end of the day, I was exhausted and all of the test results had come back. I was resting in my bed, waiting for the doctor to come back, and he came in wearing a regretful expression.
“What happened?” I asked him. “Your results show that you have lung cancer,” “Can you treat it?” I ask even though I don’t know if I want to live anymore.
“We don’t have the resources to treat a Stage 1 cancer here, and you have Stage 4 cancer,” he broke the news.
I took a moment to soak it in before I asked, “How long do I have to live?”
“You should have had 1 month, but because of the bullet, your condition worsened and you just have two weeks left, I’m sorry,” he said and he left the room.
I have two weeks left. Two weeks of my life. I didn’t have anyone to say goodbye to anyways.
After a few days of moping in the hospital room, I find out that Annie and Finnick are going to get married.
On the day of the wedding, I still couldn't get out of the wheelchair, so one of the doctors took me to the wedding.
It was an okay wedding, mostly because it wasn’t me up there, beside’s Finnick. I was sitting at the back of the hall, so no one could see me, I didn’t mind though, I could just watch everything in peace.
Annie and Finnick kiss. They’re married. At least Finnick is happy now, I can see that smile on his face that I couldn’t put there.
A fit of coughs hit me, but the music is too loud and no one cares enough to take a look at me. I start coughing so hard that I’m thrown out of the wheelchair and I can see blood slowly pooling on the floor. A minute later, I collapse, still coughing. Until my eyes close.
Finnick P.O.V
It’s been two days since Annie and I got married, and I’m sitting on the edge of my bed, clutching onto the letter, trying not to cry.
I was just told that (Y/N) died during the wedding due to lung cancer. they left me a note. It said:
Hey Finnick!
I know by the time you read this I’ll be gone. Hopefully to heaven, but with all I’ve done, I wouldn’t be surprised if I go downstairs. Anyways enough about me. I was very angry with you for breaking your promise, but I figured, what good is it to die angry? Might as well live a happy two weeks of life I have left.
I want to get a weight off of my shoulders. I’m sorry I didn’t save Annie when I came back. I should have tried harder. I’m sorry.
I know you won’t miss me when I’m gone, but I’ll miss you. Your friendship. You were there for me through a lot of my hard times, so I want to say thank you.
Thank you for finding me when I got lost. Thank you for defending me against those bullies back in school. Thank you for the happiest times of my life. Thank you for being the reason my smile became just a tiny bit bigger. Thank you for being the reason my heart opened up more. Thank you for making me a better person. Thank you for being the reason to light up my life, even though I wasn’t yours.
Thank you Finnick, thank you.
I just want to say one last thing to you.
I love you.
I always have, even though you never loved me back.
Live a happy life with Annie.
Don’t you dare cry for me.
(Y/N)
I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing anymore. I was the reason for their anger in the last few days of their life. Only if I hadn’t hated them when they came back from the capitol and been thankful, maybe they wouldn’t have gone.
I didn’t even get to apologize to them. The last thing I said to them was “How could you not have gotten Annie back?!”
And they loved me? If only I had known before I met Annie because I was in love with them too.
A/N: I know the timeline is completely messed up, but I couldn't understand the exact timeline in the book, so I went with what felt right. Hope you enjoy it! :)

They play on the shore. The boy with the bronze hair and green eyes jumps into the water. The other one, with brown curls and equally green eyes, tries to get his attention by cupping his chubby toddler hands and splashing his brother with water.
“Thanks”, I say to Finnick, who is sitting beside me on the shore of the beach while handing me a glass of juice.
“The pleasure is all mine”, he responds with a seductive tone, unable to go against his provocative nature.
“I finished the net and, I have to say it, I did a great job”, I tell him, pulling the finished net to show him. Finnick picks up the material, admiring it. He lifts his hand seconds later and I smile, bringing my palm against his in a high-five.
“Who knew, huh, Everdeen?!”
“Did you doubt it?”, I mock him.
“I did. All the time.”
He's so ridiculous that I can't help but laugh. But before I can reply, Aiden's shrill, laughing squeal catches our attention. We both turn to face him and watch as Peeta spins the boy around. Fate doesn't hide away from all the fun and grabs Peeta’s leg, which causes the three of them to go straight to the ground in a swift but loud crash.
The worry I feel for Peeta's tumble and prosthetic leg soon gives into delight when I see him grinning from ear to ear the minute Fate and Aiden start to tickle him.
“I'm gonna be honest with you... one of those days, Fate and Aiden will convince me to give you guys custody of them. And 80% of the blame will be Peeta's.
“Is it just me or are you feeling a little bit threatened?”
“It’s just you. I'm feeling relieved, actually”, he jokes in a dead serious tone.
We sit in silence for a moment, gazing at the children while they draw pictures in the sand with Peeta's help, eyeing the waves crashing in the ocean and the sun beginning to retire for the day to make room for the moon.
“Have you ever noticed how happy they are?”, I question, sipping my glass of juice. “Sometimes it feels like they're from another world.”
“They are from another world”, Finnick says softly. “The world we fought for.”
I shake my head, allowing myself the brief peace of knowing that my friend's children will never know any of the horrors we’ve experienced in our childhood. Their days will be filled with laughter, fun times and warmth.
“Will you tell them?”
Finnick stares at the ocean for a while before answering me with a simple:
“No”
The questions are just beginning. The arenas have been completely destroyed, the memorials have been built, there are no more Hunger Games. But they still teach about them at school, and Fate knows we played a role in them. Aiden will know in a few years.  And I understand Finnick's resolve, because if I were in his place I would probably spend hours on end wondering how could I tell them about that world without frightning them to death?  Without being scared to death myself with only the idea of reliving the torments that haunt me every night in my nightmares.
A few seconds later, he continues:
“I think about it all night. Sometimes, Aiden takes me by surprise and Fate notices one of Annie's panic attacks and I think that, maybe, they need to know, they need to hear from us. But, deep down, I know that I can't do this to them. I can’t bring myself to do it.”
Finnick, then, tells me of an episode that he experienced in his third year in the Capital as a victor. He recounts the graphic and sordid details of the abuse he was put through and the scars that later were erased by doctors. We're both crying when Peeta, Fate and Aiden come over to us.
Finnick's eyes and his entire countenance instantly transform. It becomes clear to anyone seeing it why he had survived for that long and it's this ability he has of hiding whatever he's feeling. The difference is that, now, he doesn't have to fake the bright smile he carries on his face when Aiden shows off the little shells he's collected and Fate starts his story about their adventure and both of them start yelling "Aunt Katniss, Aunt Katniss."
Peeta sits down beside me, wiping away tears that still unobtrusively trickle down my face and kisses my hair. And I cling to this new world, where the Capitol and its tortures don't exist, as if it is my lifeline. Because I’m pretty sure it is.
