Love how they're not even presented by name or anything(if i remember correctly), they're literally just the two dudes who got the tactician to where the plot starts, left him on the streets and come back occasionally for a drink. Pop off kings

holy fuck this episode of ya boy kongming was incredibly on the fucking nose to continue from the establishment of this arc like THE WAY EVERY PART OF AZALEA'S PERFORMANCE WAS HOLLOW, and Nanami's shame and frustration at the group's exploitation, the fucking focus on the oversexualized outfits they didn't want to wear but had no choice but to...
it not really hitting home for Nanami until she saw Eiko (who she totally has a crush on bc uh come on lol) in the crowd and realizing how none of this was her and repeating that over and over in her head, that she didn't want Eiko to see her like that after Eiko saw her real self, just
AAAAAA

Big compliant of mine: The lack of camaraderie/mutual support between Eiko and her crew at the BB Lounge from the manga FRUSTRATES me. Almost every member within the group debuted per chapter were functioned as poor plot devices akin to disposable batteries and they are not given plenty of time to mingle and grow naturally once after their introductory arc ended.
Notably the next issue has to do with my favorite character of the series: Kabetaijin
And BOY did they screw him up... (SPOILERS DOWN BELOW)
Instead of witnessing his growth from P.A. Works's adaptation where Kabe defends a high school student from getting bullied, practices harder through day and night, having a heart-to-heart talk with his girlfrien-I meant singing partner Eiko and encourages her to sing the latest single she made, performing a delightful duet together, Eiko offers an advice on how to improve Kabe's freestyle rhymes: through getting back to where it all started, discovering that he's a local celebrity, reunites with his old friend Sasatcho and his hometown crew while being helped to bring back the fun of freestyle rap, represent himself as one of them before getting into a rematch against Sekitoba in the next mc battle, and eventually won after his close rival concedes out of respect with a smile....
Kabe went invisible within 4 chapters in and comes back with no development whatsoever. Not want to express my ungratefulness, but WHAT GIVES !?(ノಥ,_」ಥ)ノ彡┻━┻
It gets worse when this infuriating vanishing act pops back from the box. It's as if Kabe appears only for rap battle sequences and nothing else, up until the Summer Sonia arc where he returns for an important role to sabotage their nefarious rival off the stage. And would you know it, nothing matters because character progression is non-existent there.
Reviewers criticize the rap sequences and Kabe's arc were deemed unnecessary, but I say it was vital for his role and his further bonds that will test each of their strengths and weaknesses. (And also for everyone who were fans of him, myself included.)
No matter what kind of circumstances they would make up, the manga will always be inexcusable to me.
Judging from today's chapter release I read, it may be a good time to take a step back before reopening back in a new page. (Meaning I should stay away from Yotsuba and Ogawa's take on Paripi Koumei for a while and stick to AUs.)

genuine question. do the characters from abc's "lost" count as isekai'd* and if so can i submit them as an ensemble cast or do i have to pick only one representative?
*technically they're still on earth but the island they get stuck on is essentially "another world". also spoilers but some isekai are time periods (like "ya boi kongming") rather than other worlds and lost also has time period isekai shenanigans. 👍👍
yeah go for it honestly

The Real Anime Awards of 2022
Last year, I made my own categories for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards (including worst girl, prettiest protagonist, and biggest disappointment, among others), and it was so much fun, I decided to do it again this year, but with different categories. So without further ado, here are the nominees for the real anime awards of 2022.
Biggest Chad
Shikimori (Shikimori’s not just a cutie)
Tumblr media
Tengen Uzui (Demon Slayer-Entertainment district arc)
Tumblr media
Marin Kitagawa (My Dress Up Darling)
Tumblr media
    Najimi (Komi Can’t Communicate)
Tumblr media
Aileen Dautriche (I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming The Final Boss)...girl really said “fuck the rest of the harem game, I’m marrying the demon lord him
self”
Tumblr media
    Ranko (Akiba Maid War)
Tumblr media
Show With The Most Drip:
Rent A Girlfriend season 2
My Dress Up Darling
Ya Boy Kongming
Vanitas No Carte season 2
Shadows House season 2
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story
Best Trash:
    Rent A Girlfriend season 2
That one harem sex slave isekai, idk I didn’t watch it
    World’s End Harem
    A Couple of Cuckoos
The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2
Love Flops (Yes, I know about the twist. No, that doesn’t stop it from being an amazing dumpster fire.)
Best CONCEPT For An Isekai:
The Executioner And Her Way Of Life
    Isekai Ojisan
I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming The Final Boss
    Reincarnated As A Sword
Life With an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated Into A Total Fantasy Knockout
Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs
Anime whose OP Goes The Hardest FOR NO REASON:
Gunjou no Fanfare (”Move The Soul”- JO1) ...this is a show about horse racing...
Teppen (”Top of the Laugh”- Teppen All Stars)...this is a show about stand up comedy...
    Isekai Ojisan (“Story”-Mayu Maeshima)
Akiba Maid War (“Maid Daikaiten”- Ton Tokoton Staff)
Golden Kamuy season 4 (”ALI”-Never Say Goodbye feat. Mummy-D) Yes, it’s technically a drama, so the OP fits it, but we all know it’s more of a comedy. Half the time they’ll be telling a dick joke, and it will cut to this OP.
Call of the Night (“Daten”-Creepy Nuts) Seriously, think about it. Why does this OP go so hard? The show is about a guy walking around at night. They didn’t have to come for us like this, but they did, and I love it.
Best Couple: I know this used to be a Crunchyroll category, but I’m bringing it back anyway.
Sasaki and Miyano (Sasaki to Miyano)
Tumblr media
Yor and Loid (Spy x Family)
Tumblr media
Desumi and Fudo (Love After World Domination)
Tumblr media
Kaguya and Shirogane (Kaguya-sama Love Is War season 3)
Tumblr media
Tsukasa and Hinata (Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout)
Tumblr media
*This is technically a spoiler, since the show doesn’t start as a romance...so just fyi* Aharen and Raido (Aharen-san is Indecipherable)
Tumblr media
Biggest Surprise
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ story
Ya Boy Kongming
Shinobi no Ittoki
Akiba Maid War
Romantic Killer
Akebi’s Sailor Uniform (went in expecting a cute slice of life…got an uncomfortable nightmare)
Smartest OP:
    Chainsaw Man
    Chainsaw Man
    Chainsaw Man
    Chainsaw Man
    Mob Psycho 100 season 3
    To Your Eternity season 2
Most dunked on protagonist:
    Nagomu Irino (Deaimon)
    Kabe-Taijin (Ya Boy Kongming)
Izumi (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie)
    Kazuya (Rent A Girlfriend)
    Ataru Moroboshi (Urusei Yatsura)
    Mikoto Shiratori (Ryman’s Club)
Most Ridiculous Concept For A Sports Anime That Actually Works:
    Birdie Wing: Golf Girl’s Story
Tumblr media
    Ryman’s Club
Tumblr media
    Gunjou no Fanfare
Tumblr media
    Tribe Nine
Tumblr media
    Blue Lock
Tumblr media
But who cares what I think? What categories would you make for your own anime awards?

Some anime I’ve been watching this season. Spoilers: Four of them are adaptations about transmigrators.
Tumblr media
The Executioner and Her Way of Life: Yuri isekai fantasy about a young priestess whose job is to kill otherworld-traveling Japanese teens, and the Japanese girl whose power makes her practically immortal. The deviation from the usual isekai power fantasy plot (average teenage boy becomes over-powered hero) got my attention, and the mystery and world-building kept me watching. The yuri was unexpected but welcomed. It’s a good adaptation in that it makes me want to read what happens next in the light novels it’s based on.
Tumblr media
Ascendance of a Bookworm, Season 3: Slice-of-life isekai fantasy about a young girl’s attempts to become a librarian in a world where only to rich can afford books. Season 3 is less about her efforts to improve her life and bookmaking, and more about her life as a priestess and the evil nobles that want to either kill or enslave her. I’m enjoying it. It’s fine.
Tumblr media
Rising of the Shield Hero, Season 2: Power fantasy isekai about a man summoned to save the world. The first season is, as the kids would say, a problematic fave of mine. I enjoyed it enough to seek out the manga. The new season deviates from the source material in places, but while some of the changes were fine, a lot of them were bad or unnecessary. Ignoring its failures as an adaptation, the anime as a stand-alone story isn’t great. The plot is rushed, some of the set-ups are nonsensical, and the characters are underdeveloped. It did, however, do one thing an adaptation should do: I’ve started reading the light novels just to know what the hell is going on.
Tumblr media
Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story: Venus line! Venus line. 🎶🎵 A sports anime about a golf hustler from the wrong side of the tracks and her love of rivalry with a golf princess. People keep saying it’s a crazy show, but it’s pretty normal for an anime, I think. Yeah, there’s an underground customizable golf course that mafia bosses use to bet on real estate, that’s not that weird. Yeah, the characters give their swings special names; what anime doesn’t have special moves. It’s a fantastic show.
Tumblr media
Ya Boy Kongming!: Chan chan, Ai! Chiki chiki ban ban 🎶🎵A music anime about legendary strategist Zhuge Liang Kongming transmigrating to modern-day Shibuya and using his wartime tactics to help a young singer become a world-famous star. Another one that grabbed me with its premise. The music is great, the characters are great. It’s fun, hilarious, with occasional glances at the sadness and difficulties that drive the characters forward. Highly recommended.

papyrus & jasmine (but I kinda wanna change the latter part of the Q to "and would recommend to anyone" if that's alright!)
papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?
I've talked about this when I last answered this question here, but I don't have an 'on repeat' playlist. I'll link a song from my 'liked videos' playlist on youtube for you instead!
youtube
I am not sure I could even begin to explain this video tbh. I really like Gilmore Girls and something about the combination of Rory with Taylor Swift songs is fucking immaculate.
And here I'll also link a song I've had on repeat over the last week for you!
youtube
This is the first full song Nino sings in the Anonymous Noise anime/manga. Something about how messy it sounds really stuck with me and I am just living for these vibes. I know rock music totally plays against the aesthetic I have going but I want so badly to one day sing this song.
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again? and would recommend to anyone?
Oh boy! I have a long, long list of books, movies, tv shows, anime, manga, and light novels that I toss around as recommendations to friends. I usually like to tailor my reccs based on what I know people like but since I'm not entirely sure about your tastes I'll give a few of the ones I know most poeple enjoy.
Oscar (1991): a movie with Sylvester Stalone and it's a comedy so you really can't go wrong with this
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: either the manga or anime, both are amazing imo and the comedy is unparalleled
Summertime Rendering: honestly the best mystery manga I've ever read and it got a boppin anime adaptation just this year, go in with as few spoilers as possible
Pandora Hearts: please read this manga, if not for the plot then just for the art because Mochizuki Jun improves so much over the course of this series and it's absolutely stunning
86 eighty-six: watch the anime and if you're feeling it read the light novel or just wait it out for a second season because this will definitely get one
2.43 Seiin Koukou Danshi Volleyball: okay so I know this is the less popular volleyball anime but I like this one more
IDOLiSH7: i love these idol boys and this is the best idol game turned anime adaptation out there I think
IDOLY PRIDE: the other really awesome idol anime, I love this more than words can say and it's just a good time all around
Ao no Exorcist: read the manga and just avoid the anime please, the manga is much better
Fruits Basket: I watched the 2019 series and I didn't know what I was getting into at all but damn it was worth it, this anime is perfect
Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru: I clearly like a lot of sports anime lol, but nah this one is good and has like warm and fuzzy friendship vibes but an older cast so it's a bit more serious
Kono Oto Tomare: music anime about a traditional Japanese instrument with great friendship and romance, I loved this so much that I bought the CD and I will one day play it for my wedding
Ya Boy Kongming: it's got great music and is hilarious, you could not ask for more imo
The Raven Boys: this was a fun time to read, like it had friendship and romance and all that teenage angst but also treasure hunting and supernatural powers
Percy Jackson: someone has probably already recced this tbh
All Our Yesterdays: the only valid time travel novel imo
Here Lies Daniel Tate: there's murder, there's mystery, what more could you want lol
The Devil is A Part-timer: watch season 1 of the anime and if you want to continue past that hit me up because things get messy and your enjoyment will depend on which character was your fave
The Last Fallen Star: a korean mythology middle grade novel
Into The Spiderverse: do I need to say more lol
The Good Place: again a comedy tv show, I do love comedy
Gilmore Girls: this is honestly a fascinating study in character development and writing
Ms Marvel: as a pakistani muslim this tv show was a mood in many ways
And there you have it! A very extensive list of media for you to check out! If you want to talk more about any of these and/or want more reccs join my discord server and feel free to scream in there! I am always ready to talk about fandoms and series I love but there's not enough people around lol
Thank you for the question! Feel free to check out my other answers under the tag mina answers! on my blog!

Anime Reviews #21
End of the semester, which means more shows than usual.
Spoilers for Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Odd Taxi, Spy x Family, and Ya Boy Kongming!
Kaguya-sama: Love is War Episode 10: This episode has Kaguya and Shirogane trying to fix their relationship after what happened in the previous episode (a very sick Kaguya dragged Shirogane into her bed to nap with her and when she woke up, she didn't remember anything and threw him out). The principal gave the student council two slices of cake, and Ishigami ate one, causing Shirogane and Kaguya to try and give the slice to each other. Their fighting, exacerbated by the bed incident, gets so out of control that Ishigami gets Fujiwara to intervene. She ends up eating the cake herself, solving the issue. Later, Kaguya consults Nagisa (the recurring girlfriend) about making up with a boy (since she has a boyfriend), and Shirogane asks Ishigami for similar advice (Ishigami has no relationship experience, but has read a lot of shoujo manga). Both Nagisa and Ishigami essentially say that neither of them is at fault and they shouldn't feel guilty about it (although at first, Ishigami goes off on a rant about women and then humans in general), and Shirogane and Kaguya make up. The same day, the student council is trying to make plans for a summer trip together, specifically Shirogane, who wants to hang out with Kaguya at a summer festival. Fujiwara hampers the plan by saying that she's going to be abroad for most of the summer, including the day of the festival, and refuses to let the others go without her. After Ishigami points out how selfish that is, Fujiwara runs out crying, and Ishigami wants to leave, distressed over making Fujiwara cry, but both Shirogane and Kaguya thank him for it.
Favorite part of episode:
Kaguya trying to not make it obvious that she's asking for help because of Shirogane
2. Fujiwara eating the cake
Favorite character: I'll give this episode to Nagisa. She was really the only one not being stupid in this episode, in my opinion.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Episode 11: Half of summer break has passed, and Shirogane is sitting in his room, sad. Kaguya finds this out because he posted it on Twitter, and Hayasaka has Twitter. Kaguya begs for help in creating an account, interrupting Hayasaka's bath multiple times and annoying her. Later, Fujiwara enters a ramen shop. This segment is mostly told through the narration of a businessman in the shop, who is secretly one of the Ramen Kings. Initially, he thinks Fujiwara to be on his level when she orders the same type of ramen he does, but he's disappointed when she orders different noodles. However, he is proven wrong when Fujiwara eats her ramen differently than he does, and the noodle choice makes sense. A few days later, Shirogane and Kaguya are both despairing over their lack of contact. They both go to the school to see the other, but they just barely miss each other.
Favorite part of episode: The entire ramen shop segment was weird, but in a funny way. Very unexpected, but not unwelcome.
Favorite character: Fujiwara.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Episode 12: Kaguya prepares to go to the festival, where she'll meet up with Shirogane, Ishigami, and Fujiwara, but her guardian (maid) forbids her to go, saying she could get lost in the crowd. Seeing how sad Kaguya is, Hayasaka concocts a plan with the rest of the Student Council so that Kaguya can see the fireworks. With Hayasaka's help, Kaguya sneaks out and takes a taxi; meanwhile, Shirogane bikes to Kaguya's house and, seeing Hayasaka in the window, knows what's going on. The traffic ends up being so bad that Kaguya walks the rest of the way on foot, but she still misses the fireworks. She's crying about it in an alley when the rest of the student council finds her and they plan to go to another show that was delayed due to rain. The taxi driver (another Ramen King) speeds them along the road, and they all see the fireworks from the road. The new school year starts the next day, and Kaguya refuses to talk to Shirogane. He thinks it's because he said some really cringey, action movie-like lines while on their fireworks adventure, but it's really because she's feeling self-conscious. They try to talk several times while cleaning the student council room, but are interrupted by Fujiwara, who thinks they're making patterns on the floor (a plus sign and an asterisk). Once Ishigami and Fujiwara leave, they successfully start a conversation, but their conversation leads Shirogane to think that he's still the problem and he bolts. Kaguya chases after him.
Favorite part of episode: Shirogane's one-liners.
Favorite character: The whole student council gets this episode. Oh, and Hayasaka and the taxi driver/Ramen King.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Odd Taxi Episode 5: Yamamoto takes Odokawa's taxi to pick up the members. First is Yuki, who likes fried chicken. She's the newest of the band members. Second is Shiho, who likes bath houses. Odokawa recognizes her from somewhere, and Yamamoto claims that it must be from a concert before Mystery Kiss debuted (since Shiho wears a mask when she performs now). She complains about being the least talented of the members, and also dating people for money, but Yamamoto stops her before she can explicitly say that. After she gets out of the car, Odokawa learns that Yamamoto is promoting these two so that the third, Rui, can shine more. Odokawa also says that he remembers dropping off Yuki at the agency a few weeks ago. Yamamoto, realizing that Odokawa is the taxi driver Kuroda is looking for, asks for his dash cam data, claiming that he wants to use it for a promotional video. Odokawa hedges and says he'll give it if he can clear privacy issues. Meanwhile, Tanaka has been following Odokawa and can now track him through a phone Yuki left in the cab. Later in the night, Gouriki, the doctor, tells Odokawa that he's planning to close down the clinic so he doesn't have to deal with reporting medicine theft. Odokawa says that Shirakawa is the culprit, but Gouriki doubts him. Odokawa meets Dobu and confirms that Shirakawa is the one stealing the medicine, although she approached Odokawa on her own. Odokawa tells Dobu about Yamamoto, and tells Dobu to stay away from him. Shiho and Kakihana are on a date at a fancy restaurant, where Kakihana is trying to act rich, but he keeps almost giving himself away. Shiho's on her phone the whole time, and shows a tweet of Imai winning the lottery and a video of Kawasawa, the hippo that wants to go viral, declaring that he'll catch Dobu. A loan receipt falls out of Kakihana's pocket, and it reveals he's taken out ¥100,000.
Favorite part of episode: Kawasawa's video.
Favorite character: None.
*Special note: This episode has an (implied) middle-aged guy (Kakihana) on a date with a teenage girl. She is 18, so it's technically legal, but still very squicky. If you're uncomfortable with that, don't watch the end of this episode.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spy x Family Episode 1: Twilight is the best spy in Westalis, helping keep the tenuous peace between his country and Ostania. After recovering photographic proof of the Foreign Minister wearing a toupée (which could have ruined his career/reputation) and destroyed it, he moves on to his next mission: create a family and infiltrate a private school in order to spy on Donovan Desmond, leader of the National Unity Party. Now living under the name "Loid Forger", he adopts a little girl, Anya, who finishes a newspaper crossword, impressing him. However, what he doesn't know is that she's psychic (she was a test subject for government experiments), and got the answers from his mind. Loid goes out on errands with her, and a couple of incidents make him question her intelligence (she thinks that a bakery is a place where they have bacon; she tries to pay with the wrong amount of change), but he ultimately decides to stay with her after seeing that she's been returned from four foster homes. On his next errand trip, he makes Anya stay in because she didn't want to study (the experience has bad memories for her) and ends up barricading her in (with a bookshelf from the outside). She finds his spy phone and accidentally sends a message to a bad guy. She ends up kidnapped, and Loid saves her. Anya takes the entrance exam and ends up passing.
Favorite part of episode:
1. Twilight breaking up with the Foreign Minister's daughter in a very blunt way (since he doesn't need her anymore)
2. Anya's favorite TV show, which is about spies (and annoys Loid)
3. Loid falling over after getting excited that Anya passed the entrance exam
Favorite character: Both Loid and Anya are funny in different ways.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ya Boy Kongming! Episode 1: Kongming, a strategist from the Three Kingdoms period (a period of ancient Chinese history), dies and wishes to be reborn in an era of peace. He gets his wish, as he is sent to Shibuya, Tokyo, during modern times, in the middle of a Halloween party, as his young self. He thinks he's in hell at first, and decides to enjoy it when two drunk people think he's cosplaying Kongming (as opposed to actually being him) and befriend him. They take him to a nightclub, where he is entranced by the singing of Eiko Tsukimi. He ends up in the alley the next morning, and Eiko, pitying him, takes him home. After a bit of confusion, Kongming and Eiko figure out what has happened, and Eiko teaches him about smartphones and Wikipedia. Eiko is sad because she thinks she's untalented, but Kongming praises her and offers to help her and her career. He gets a job at the nightclub, where the boss is really into the Three Kingdoms time period, and questions Kongming extensively on it.
Favorite part of episode:
1. Kongming's first reaction to arriving in Shibuya
2. Kongming learning about the Internet
Favorite character: Kongming.
