believe it or not some female characters don’t have to be mothers. some female characters shouldn’t be mothers. some female characters have a history of expressed disinterest in being mothers. some female characters would have to do a complete 180 in characterization in order to be mothers.

i think women in media need to start describing the men they're in love with as "beautiful" more often. like way more often. i'm not kidding. it's not a gendered word. there's no way that society is going to give up the idea that it is anytime soon, but wow i want to tell men that they're beautiful. i think it would be good for society to see that on the tv.

The Public Domain Discourse, as I decided to call it ("characters and works should never enter the Public Domain because that's disrespectful to the original artist") is fascinating to experience.
You see, I usually stay very successfully away from fandom discourses. The way I'm doing this is by completely ignoring everything and everyone, and just doing my own thing. Said thing consists to a good part out of older media, because old media fandoms are chill as fuck. There are usually around five people at a time talking about whatever thing, and it is very easy to be friendly if you know that there are only five of you. Even if you don't like something that someone does, you put some effort into ignoring it and focus on the fact that at least this person likes the same thing you do. I have read fic before that features a ship that borderline squicks me out, because it also featured a pulp hero I was hyperfocussing on at the moment and couldn't find anything else. And I had a lovely conversation with the author in the comment section. A lot of old media fandoms is just telling people that the Thing even exists. Or someone draws a picture, maybe writes a story. I have seen a lot of analysis.
So that's what it is normally like. Now suddenly in the middle of it all burst a bunch of randos yelling about how the Public Domain shouldn't exist, because what if somebody makes Bad Art with it. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW AMAZING SOME BIGGER PROFILE ART ABOUT SOME OF MY FAVORITE HEROES WOULD BE?!

by far the wildest take I have seen recently has been "tags are for my organization only, and content creators shouldn't be looking at their tags on tumblr."
Like. okay first of all: cc's are people and they are tumblr users just like anyone else. Expecting them to interact with the site in some weird, circumspect way is ridiculous. Why in the world should someone have to blacklist or avoid the tags for their own work or character?
Second: tags exist in order to find things. On your own personal blog, when reblogging things, they're for organization (and helping your followers block things.) But when you make a post and tag it, that goes into the main tag. That's how tumblr WORKS. (Or at least, is supposed to. Sometimes it's hard to get things into the main tag. That's another issue entirely.) Saying "I tagged it with this person's name but I didn't want them to SEE it" is insane -- if you don't want people interacting (and that! includes! the possibility! of a cc!) then don't maintag it. It's that simple.
I don't know if this is a newbies-don't-get-how-tumblr-works thing or what but if you put something about someone on the internet, they 100% have the right to interact with it, positively, negatively, or otherwise. Especially if you specifically tag them.

You tell me men are monsters
Not realizing it, you taught me
I need to become a monster
To be a man in your eyes

terfs are so fucking annoying with how subtle they try to be, even though once you learn the dogwhistles theyre readily apparent
'not a radfem, just a fed up lesbian' already a red flag and then boom, a couple posts into the blog there is blatant transphobia

Kinda a weirdly specific take, but I don’t know how anyone could reach the “all men are bad” conclusion unless they like. Never work retail.
Like, really? All men? I get a lot of annoying sexist remarks thrown at me all day (by men and women) but I also get treated with respect by men?
Sometimes a customer is a man who politely asks me where to find something and then thanks me and goes about his day?
Idk, I just can’t imagine living within society and never meeting a good man. Sometimes people are assholes. Sometimes they’re very gentle and understanding and want you to have a good day. Sometimes they’re men and sometimes they’re women.
Also every single person is going to have Morally Good and Morally Bad qualities according to an individuals specific, subjective definitions. The nicest man is going to have some bad qualities, but that doesn’t make him bad. A cruel woman is going to have some good qualities, but that doesn’t make her good.
What are they even judging people by? By actions? By intentions? By affect on the world? By how close the person is to 100% meeting all of their individual rules for Being Morally Good? How does someone work retail (and see every type of person there is) and decide that they’re an authority on if Every Man Ever is bad or not?
