#twowaystowear Tuesday, all you Dappled Little Things...how are you feeling about color pairing thus far? . . For the past two days, I've shared some of my favorite ways to choose colors in order to create a color-blocked look; while you might find pairing colors daunting, perhaps if you understood a little more about the process, you may find it easier to do! . . Color-Blocking by the Numbers -okay, so you're picking colors, using the color wheel, and following the pairing rules, but there is still one more thing to know: the percentages! Even if you choose the perfect color combination, your look may still be visually overwhelming: to reduce the visual contrast, while ensuring the pieces you've chosen complement and don't compete with each other, vary the proportion of color in the pieces you chose to pair. . . In the case of this fabulous green jumpsuit: with such an amazing cut (wrap front, flutter sleeves, dramatic hem) and color, I wanted it to be the main focus of my outfit; from my shoulders to shins, it covers about 70% of my body, so I had 30% more color to add. . . The jacket offers about 25% more color: it's a shorter length and the sleeves only reach mid-way down my forearm (I chose to wear the jacket open as not to reduce the overall percentage of the jumpsuit). . . With 95% of the color in my outfit accounted for, the remaining 5% I saved for my belt; although quite skinny (small in width), the rich cobalt blue is a large jolt of color (I ignored the shoes in the math because the floral pumps had varying shades of the green jumpsuit, the acqua-teal jacket, and blue belt, tying all three pieces together!). . . It’s amazing how much a holiday helps make you contemplate how many blessings one has. I don’t mean to sound like I’ve been ungrateful, but as my life took a huge turn, I was suddenly at a loss as to what to think and how to feel. #tbthursday circa 2012, with two pops of color and a neutral! . . This is 'How I Styled It', from A Shoe Collection to Envy: . Styling these Betsey beauties was too much fun! I interpreted the random color pattern as almost leopard print-like, and wore it as I would any neutral color shoe: I wanted to match the boldness in the shoe's silhouette with equally striking colors. . Armed with this purple long sleeved v-neck t-shirt from Old Navy, I headed back to Academichic's fabric color wheel to see what I could wear with this rich jewel toned hue. . You will remember from my last post on Complementary Colors, I did an intermediate color swap instead of pairing colors directly opposite each other on the color wheel; today I decided to follow another variation of color complements and instead of pairing the purple with it's yellow complement, I opted for matching the purple blouse with this (deeper yellow hue) mustard skirt from Ross' Dress for Less, and wow, what an explosion of color! . I toned down the brightness with the neutral tan leather jacket from Newport News (several years ago), and grabbed my color blocked clutch from the GAP to add another element of color to the ensemble (remember, purple and red are neighbors on the color wheel and as a result pair well together. . Also, red and yellow are part of the same color triad (pick two!) and can be worn simultaneously)! . .
