The Post Where I Actually Explain the DM Tangled AU

Grampa uses a magic flower to keep himself young (Grampa = Gothel)

He eventually gets married to Gramma/Petey’s mother, who I’m calling Stephanie for now (Stephanie = Arianna/Frederick)

She’s the queen of Collardale, he’s a random feline who fancied her for the convenience of the AU and this post

Because Grampa’s evil, he tries to take over the kingdom, which prompts Stephanie to show him the door

That last point was while the latter was expecting Petey

Grampa plots revenge since he’s pretty peeved at that queen now

Stephanie falls sick during the pregnancy, then the guards take the magic flower Grampa’s been using for a bajillion years

Petey’s born now, but with a fire-colored magic tail? (Petey = Rapunzel)

The lanterns are sent into the sky in celebration

Gramps, after a few weeks, kidnaps Petey both to spite Stephanie and for the magic powers

Right before the kidnapping, Grampa cuts the end of Petey’s tail, rendering it flat

Stephanie sends the floating lanterns in hope that her son will come back

Gramps locks him in a faraway tower, telling him the outside world is dangerous, and he believes it

At least, until a kitten comes flying through the conveniently open window, just a few months before his next birthday (Li’l Petey = Pascal)

His existence contradicts what Grampa said about the world being cruel, but Petey assumes the kitten’s an exception

Petey lets him stay UFN (because it’s not like you’re going to let a seven year old leave while you can’t)

While they have a good bond, one, it’s not as strong as canon yet, and two, they get on each other’s nerves way more frequently, which is saying something

Then the day before Petey’s (21st? 25th? Something higher than 20 for sure) birthday, a certain dog-headed human breaks through the roof of the tower...

And that’s basically the prologue :)
