Fated Order: Twisted Wonderland
Ch 1: No Rest for the Wicked
The Remnant Order is underway and you've already solved 2 of the Psuedo-Singularities. After having a debriefing with Mash and Da Vinci, you head to your room to shower and get some well deserved rest. You turn the lights off and climb into your bed, pulling the covers up and getting comfortable. Closing your eyes, you swiftly drift off to sleep, exhausted.
In your dreams, you see a mirror. Green flames flicker in the mirror's reflection. An unknown male speaks.
"Ah, my dear esteemed benefactor… My proud, beautiful flower of evil. You are truly the fairest one of all. O magic mirror, thy wisdom I entreat… Reveal unto me the visage I seek…"
A black carriage is drawn by horses toward a gate. On the other side stands what seems to be a massive castle with many spires. The full moon illuminates the path ahead. The scene returns to that of the mirror, and the voice speaks once more.
"You, whose image the Dark Mirror did beckon forth… If your heart bids it, take the hand of the one reflected in the mirror."
The silhouette of a hand takes shape within the mirror, enticing. The image is replaced by that of a vermillion flame.
"As flame reduces even the stars to ash…"
A shard of ice appears next.
"As ice seals away even time itself…"
Vibrant green energy swirls within the glass.
"As great trees even swallow the sky…"
The imagery fades to black once more.
"Fear not the power of darkness. Now – demonstrate your power."
A bright light grows, originating from the mirror, until it completely overtakes your vision. Then, nothing but darkness and that mysterious voice.
"To me. To them. To yourself. The hour grows long and time is scarce. Keep steady your grip, no matter what may come…"
You're startled out of the dream by the sound of something trying to open a locked door. You open your eyes to complete darkness. Feeling around, you seem to be in an enclosed space. Had you been unconscious in your coffin upon your return from a rayshift? That can't be right, considering there would probably be a lot more commotion had that been the case. So what happened then?
"I better hurry up and find that uniform before someone spots me…" Somewhat of a nasally, quirky, whiny voice speaks from the other side of the door.
This is also a voice you've never heard before. Could this be a random staff member you've never spoken to before? Why are they looking for a uniform in your coffin? Why do they fear getting caught?
"Urggggh… This lid weighs a ton!"
Did the coffin door get stuck? You try pushing on it from the inside.
"Try this on for size! Mya-ha!"
You don't think you like where this is going. Suddenly, blue flames overtake the front of the coffin and you yelp. You kick open the door at the same time it gives way. The first thing that occurs to you is that this is not Chaldea. But that's to focus more on later; more importantly you bat down the bit of flame sparking on your robes, of which you've never seen before.
"What?! You ain't supposed to be awake!" You now see that the voice belongs to a gray, cat-like creature with flaming ears and a forked tail. You assume it's a magical beast or something, because last time you checked cats don't look like that, nor do they talk.
"What are you? A hellcat?" You squint at the small creature in front of you.
"How… How DARE YOU! I am no mere CAT! I'm Grim, sorcerer extraordinaire!"
"Fou!" Out from your coffin pops none other than Fou. Curious how he always manages to sneak along with you. The small beast scampers onto your shoulder and perches there.
"That thing is more of an animal than I am! Tch. Whatever. You… human! Just gimme your uniform, and be quick about it!"
You cross your arms. "I have a name, you know? And why would I give you the clothes that I'm wearing? They're the only thing I'm wearing and they wouldn't fit you, since they're human sized." Fou makes a sound in what seems to be agreement.
"Oh-ho! You got a lotta nerve talking back to me, human! The name's Grim. Believe me, you won't forget it! Now gimme your uniform, and be quick about it! Cause if you don't… you're going to regret it!" Blue flames flicker to life again and lick at your legs.
Jumping back, you yell at him, "Hey! Stop trying to roast me, you little rat! You're gonna set this whole place ablaze!"
You start to hear a muffled yelp from another coffin, accompanied by some commotion from inside. Next thing you know, the lid flies open and out jumps your dearest kouhai, Mash.
"Senpai, are you in trouble? I'm here to help!" She rushes over to you with a determined look on her face.
"Hey, come on! I'm on a tight schedule here!"
More fire spews forth from the cat-like beast and Mash maneuvers you both away from its reach, grabbing your hand and making a run for it. You burst through a set of doors and dash down an open corridor. You pass what seem to be classrooms and a perfectly trimmed courtyard. At last you both flee into a library. It's like one you've never seen before, and there are a couple of books literally floating around. You take a second to catch your breath.
"Hey, Mash? Do you happen to know where we are? Cause I have no clue."
As soon as you finish speaking, you feel a flare of heat and Mash pushes you away from it again. Standing there, looking smug, is the hellspawn.
"Foolish humans! Did you really think you could slip away from ME? Now, unless you wanna get burned to a crisp, take off those– Me-YEOW! That hurt! What gives?"
Behind Grim stands a pale man, dressed in a suit, holding the offending whip. He hosts a coat with an impressive blue collar and plenty of dark feathers. On his face is a crow-like mask that covers only the top half of his face. The man has beady gold eyes, pointed ears, and wavy black hair. The black top hat on his head has a blue ribbon around the base, with a decorative mirror, keys, and a feather arranged aesthetically.
"Consider it tough love," he starts to scold the gray beast. He then turns to you and Mash. "Ah, I've found you at last. Splendid. I trust you both are some of this year's new students? My, were you ever eager to make your debut." He crosses his arms. "And bringing a poorly trained familiar with you? That is a clear violation of the school's rules."
His voice rings a bell, but you can't tell why. Also, this does seem to be a school, but not any that you are familiar with.
"As if I'd serve some lowly human! Now lemme go!"
"Yes, yes. Rebellious familiars always say that. Do be quiet for a bit, won't you?" The mysterious man places a hand over Grim's mouth.
          "Mmmrrph!"
"Yeah, he's not my familiar, I've never even seen his species before today. If anything, Fou here is more like my familiar than that little guy." You shake your head, disagreeing with the man's assumption, before motioning to the small beast still perched on your shoulder.
Unfortunately, it seems he completely ignores you. "Dear me. Of all the students I've dealt with, you two are the first with temerity enough to open their own gates and step out of them."
You go to speak up, but he continues to scold you.
"Does the very notion of patience elude you? No matter. Your orientation has already begun. Let us return to the Mirror Chamber."
"Uhhh, student? I don't recall signing up for school." You look over at Mash and she shrugs back at you.
"You awakened in a room full of gates, did you not? All of the students here at the campus arrived by passing through such gates. Although typically the students have restraint enough to wait until I open them before waking up."
"Yeah, so, that hellcat totally tried to cremate me within mine, so no way I was staying in there. Then Mash heard the commotion and decided to help me not get roasted alive."
"Yes, I helped my senpai evade the flames and we ended up running down here." She nods resolutely.
          "Fou-fouuu!"
"You're the one who insisted on bringing it, so curtailing its behavior is your responsibility!" He raises a hand to his chin, "But now is not the time for such prattle. You've a student orientation to attend! Go on, now. Make haste."
You deadpan. He's been prattling this entire time. "Well, first of all, where are we exactly?"
Mash nods. "Yes, this does not seem to be the Clocktower, nor the Atlas Institute."
"Hm? Have neither of you fully regained consciousness? The timespace teleportation must have addled your memories… Well, these things happen, I suppose. I shall explain it to you while we walk. Truly, my magnanimity is boundless."
With that the man turns and starts to walk back the way you came, Mash and yourself following after him. However, you both follow at a distance, so you can speak to one another without him hearing.
"So far, our situation seems pretty bizarre, but that's not too unordinary for us. I think I remember going to sleep in my bed last night, so I have no clue how we got here; I assume that's the same for you. We don't know where 'here' is yet, he didn't seem to recognize the Clocktower, nor the Atlas Institute. We seem to be in more modern times, considering our surroundings, and they know of magic,  however not of some of the most famous modern magic institutions."
Mash nods and enters her own input, "These uniforms are not any I recognize either, and the magical energy feels different here. It's not quite on the same scale as the Age of Gods, but not quite the same as our modern magic either. We need to see if we can set up a connection with Chaldea, so we can communicate with them."
"Let's prioritize finding the nearest leyline, if any, and finding out more information on where we are."
Mash nods in response to your order, "Yes, Master, orders received!"
You find yourselves back in the courtyard when the man begins to speak again, "Ahem. This is Night Raven College. It is an institution for students the world over who demonstrate a rare aptitude for magic. It is the most prestigious academy of its sort in all of Twisted Wonderland. And I am Dire Crowley. Having been entrusted with its care by the chairman, I serve as headmage.”
“Twisted… Wonderland?” You question, your expression scrunching up in confusion. You and Mash share an inquisitive look, then direct your attention back to Crowley. “And you have magic here?”
“Only those who the Dark Mirror perceives as having a talent for magic are admitted to the college. Those who are selected are summoned to the campus through those “gates”, which can appear anywhere. A black carriage bearing one such gate should have come to meet you.”
This elicits a hum from your throat as you bring a hand up to your mouth in contemplation. What he’s describing sounds like the strange dream or vision that lingers in the recesses of your mind. “I recall a dark forest…” You mutter to yourself. Mash looks at you curiously.
“Senpai?”
“That black carriage serves to receive a student chosen by the Dark Mirror. It too bears a gate that connects to this campus. And, as you know, sending a carriage to meet someone on a special day is a time-honored tradition,” Crowley says matter-of-factly.
“Huh? Time-honored tradition? Where and since when?” You shake your head in confusion. Mash looks at you and shrugs, looking just as lost as you are.
Grim starts to fuss at this, squirming in Crowley’s grasp. “Mmfff! Mmmmmmfff!”
“Now, let us attend to your orientation,” the headmage ushers you all along, bringing you all back to the mirror chamber.
As your group enters, you hear voices speaking, the first of which being a boy with hair as red as a rose and eyes a striking silver. “We’re done with orientation and dorm assignments? All right, new students - let me be clear. At Heartslabyul House, I am the law. Break the rules, and it’s off with your head!”
The next to speak up is a dark-skinned boy with long, brown hair, sharp green eyes, and lion ears that occasionally twitch, proving their authenticity. It’s a bit odd, as you don’t quite know what he is, but he’s certainly not a Servant. He yawns, looking extremely done with everything. “Well, that ceremony was as boring as ever. I’m going back to the dorm. If you’re in Savanaclaw House, follow me.”
“New students! Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your achievement,” this comes from a boy with glasses, silvery hair and eyes, and a beauty mark near the bottom corner of his mouth. “As dorm leader of Octavinelle House, I am honored to have the opportunity to support you in what I hope will be a fulfilling campus experience.”
Another voice speaks up to address the group, the owner being a very handsome boy with lilac colored eyes and shiny, blonde hair with purple highlights. “Hey, does anyone know where the headmage went? He disappeared midway through the ceremony…”  He trails off.
Before any from your group can announce your presence, yet another voice chimes in. Though, when you look for the origin, you notice it comes from a floating tablet. “Some headmage he is.”
“Maybe he had a tummyache?” Another boy with dark skin responds; he has short, white hair and ruby red eyes.
Crowley finally pipes up, “I most certainly did not!”
“Ah, speak of the devil,” the first boy mutters once more.
Ignoring this, the headmage continues. “If you must know, I was searching for the new students who’d failed to show for orientation. You two are the only ones who have yet to be assigned to a dorm. Step up to the Dark Mirror, and be quick about it. I’ll watch your weasel.”
Grim growls in response to this.
“Again, not mine, but whatever,” you mutter under your breath as you and Mash step up to the Dark Mirror.
Mash goes first, gazing deep into the mirror as it sizes her up.
“State your name.” A face that looks more like a mask is present within the mirror, a scowl etched into its features.
“I am Mash, Mash Kyrielight,” she states, clearly and confidently.
“Mash. The nature of your soul is… unclear to me.”
“What did you just say?” Crowley questions in bewilderment.
“Magic resides in her, this much is true. However, it does not suit this place. The sound of it, its color, and its shape are not any that I’ve bore witness to before. Therefore, no dorm would be appropriate.”
Everything is silent for a moment, then the headmage gestures for you to take your place in front of the mirror.
“State your name,” the mirror states again.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N.”
“Y/F/N. The nature of your soul… is the same, it does not suit this place.”
Silence takes over once more, then Crowley asks, “Are you suggesting that the black carriage went to retrieve two people who are incompatible? But that is absurd! The student selection process has not erred once in its century of existence! How could this have happened?” He brings his hand up to his face curiously.
Grim struggles until he frees himself. “Mmmph! Nnnrgggh… ME! Let ME have this student’s seat!”
The headmage glares at the small beast, “Not so fast, you hyperactive weasel!”
“Unlike those humans, I totally belong here! So let me be a student here!” Grim crosses his arms with a smirk. “Look, I’ll show you! My spells’re the cat’s meow!”
Almost as if sensing the coming chaos, the red haired boy shouts out in warning, “Everyone, get down!”
With what seems to be his best attempt at a roar, Grim unleashes a burst of blue flames within the room. Mash quickly covers you with her body, materializing into her Servant’s attire and manifesting her shield.
The boy with red eyes begins to yell. “AHHHHH! HELP! I’m on fire over here!” He frantically hops about, his tail end smoking. You rush over to help pat out the flame.
“Someone catch that blasted animal before it sets the entire school ablaze!” The headmage shouts out.
The boy with the lion ears sighs, “Ugh. Can I go now, or…?”
“Oh? I thought you fancied yourself a hunter. Go and help yourself to that plump little morsel!” The handsome boy raises a brow with a smirk.
“Too much effort. Do it yourself,” the lion eared boy immediately quips back.
“Allow me to handle this, Headmage Crowley. If none of you are up to the task of catching a small animal, I will accept the responsibility.” Magnanimously, the boy with the glasses offers.
“WTG Azul. Rackin’ up those participation credits,” the tablet sounds off.
The boy with the red eyes looks at you with a bright smile. “Ah! Thank you! You really saved me there!”
“I’m sorry, were my instructions unclear?!” Crowley exclaims, frustrated.
Entirely uncaring, the green eyed boy responds, “Preeetty sure you can handle catching one mangy weasel all on your lonesome there, headmage.”
“How many times do I gotta say it? I’m Grim, spellcaster extraordinaire! I am NOT a weasel!” The offending creature continues to run his mouth, much to all of your chagrin.
Azul chimes in, “Aren’t you a spunky little fellow? Riddle, would you be so kind…?”
“Furry miscreant. I will abide no rule-breaking. You will be judged by my hand.”
Riddle and Azul begin to chase after the creature and you turn to look at Mash. “Mash, go and help them. I’ll stay and help out here!”
“Orders received, Master!” And with that, Mash runs off to aid the two mages in subduing the cat beast.

I've come to the conclusion that, in my humble opinion, Higashide is the writer in TYPE-MOON who makes the best ships involving Heroic Spirits.
Which might sound really weird. After all, the central couple in Fate/Apocrypha is Sieg/Jeanne d'Arc, and it's a pretty divisive one. No offense to those who like it, but it's always a dynamic I thought made no real sense narratively and didn't have much chemistry. Sieg on his journey of self-affirmation and personhood didn't need a romance (except maybe with Astolfo, with whom the dynamic is much more fun). Jeanne, the historical figure who rejected a marriage proposal, wore male clothing, and whose famous nickname refers to her celibacy, getting into a romance just never vibed with me (especially when it felt like the parallels/relationship between her and Shirou Kotomine were far more relevant). Add to that the ending copying Last Episode without what made LE have a strong impact, and it makes the whole even less appealing.
But despite that, Apo is also the work where there is the surprising ship of Shirou Amakusa and Queen Semiramis of all people: the semi-legendary Assyrian queen credited with making one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world falling in love with the young charismatic Japanese Christian who rebelled against the shogunate and failed. It's a very strange crossover ship between two people who never could have met if not for being brought back and it somehow works in being endearing.
(Achilles and Atalanta kinda count I guess, but it's a one-sided ship with little reasoning, that I care so little about, and is eclipsed by the more compelling foils each get, Chiron for Achilles, Jeanne for a Jackie the Ripper-driven mad Atalante.)
Higaside having grown and improved as a writer by the time of FGO, what followed this growth was him not doing a repeat of Sieg/Jeanne, but writing better ships mostly involving Servants. Asterios the Minotaur and Euryale the Gorgon; last Byzantine emperor Constantine IX and fictional Popess Johanna; heck, you can even see the relationship between Mordred and Dr. Jekyll this way (it also works as simple close friendship). Being characters from usually completely different mythologies and historical cultures, there is care done to make it clear why they fall for each other and as a result these couples are very different from one another instead of being the same formula everytime. In a game where a lot of (female) Servants are made to fall for the last Master of Chaldea for sometimes very little reason, these are a breath of fresh air.
For all my problems with her, Sakurai does something similar, though her ships are usually people who canonically were together in their legends: Sigurd/Brynhild, Aslaug/Ragnar Lodbrok, Julius Caesar/Cleopatra, Ozymandias/Nefertari, Tomoe Gozen/Kiso Yoshinaka, etc. They can be one note and there is a repeated thematic tendency of hers of writing "inhuman woman discovering humanity by falling in love", but they tend to be very cute and I easily understand that these people are in love even beyond death, so I root for them to reunite. Higashide also has "canonical" pairings, but the results are more muddled here: Siegfried and Kriemhild are adorable as a divorced couple where there are clearly still feelings, no matter what the tsundere wife says. But Rama and Sita are just...there. I understand the point of their separation, but it's not very engaging and Rama essentially disappeared after the American Singularity, while Sita was yeeted to Arcade. A mark against Higashide, but not as bad as Sieg/Jeanne and overshadowed by the numbers of better ships he wrote in FGO.
And there's Orion and Artemis, where I'm split. Super Orion and LB Artemis was really good and poignant. Orion the teddy bear and ditzy Artemis are a realy bad joke that overstayed its welcome.
FGO prioritizes Master/Servant relationships, both because the last Master of Chaldea is a blank slate for players to self insert into, and also because human×Servant is the type of ship Nasu specializes in (Shirou/Saber, Rin/Saber, Kuzuki/Caster, Caren/Angra Mainyu, and to a lesser extent Bazett/Cu, Yukika/False Assassin, and Ayako/Medusa in FSN; Fate/Extra as a whole; Ritsuka/Castoria in FGO). But even there Higashide made better choices than when he penned Sieg/Jeanne. Charlotte Corday is a surprisingly well-done choice for her archetype, it seems like it's going to be another Kiyohime but no, he actually makes her a good character you get attached to.
And then there is Kadoc and Anastasia. Words cannot describe how much I love them, how their personalities clash and complement each other in the best way, how aesthetically good they look put next to each other, etc. And it's not even just that we got a MasterxServant relationship outside Ritsuka, though that helped.
Basically, Higashide has become my go-to source for good ships, especially intra-Servants ones where Ritsuka is not involved and characters are allowed to not orbit around their Master. Sakurai also provides in that last aspect, but Higashide is doing that and also giving that crossover flavor you see in things like that one Cartoon Network ad with Johnny Bravo and Velma, and that works really well for me.

“Forgive my ignorance, Master, but what country does this flag represent?”
The Master of Chaldea turns around to follow Artoria’s gaze, focused on the large flag spread against the wall of her room. While she has been keeping her frustration under wraps, this thing has been driving her wild for weeks now; anytime she sees it, she dives deep inside herself to find any relevant knowledge whatsoever, and every single time, she comes out with absolutely nothing. The grail will provide you with the necessary knowledge upon summoning. What a scam. False advertisements all around.
“Oh!” The Master turns back to her, grinning. “That’s the trans flag. You’ve never seen it before?”
“The flag of Transylvania?” Huh. Fascinating. Now she’ll know what colors to associate with Vlad’s country-
The Master chuckles. “No, no, the trans gender flag. You know? Since I’m genderfluid?” She makes a vague gesture of the hand, prana crackles in the air- and instead of a red-haired girl, Artoria is left facing a black-haired boy. It’s a trick she’s seen the Master perform a few times before, so it doesn’t sway her one way or another.
“I’m… afraid I don’t know what these words mean.” She admits, a bit shamefully. Much as it pains her to admit her own ignorance, she knows as a warrior and as a king that it’s better to fill any gap in knowledge as she can before heading to the battlefield.
The Master stares at her for a few seconds. “You… have seen me shapeshift before, right?”
“I have.” As established before, seeing the Master as a man is an equally common occurrence as seeing him as a woman.
“Why do you think I do that?”
Good question. Artoria never really pondered over it. “I figure each form might give you different magecraft advantages?” She hazards a guess.
The Master snorts. “God, I wish, but that’d imply me actually knowing how to do magecraft. Sorry to say, the genderbending trick is the only one I know.” He shakes his head. “No. Some days I feel more like a boy, and some days I feel more like a girl, so I shapeshift accordingly.”
Artoria quirks up an eyebrow. “Feel… ‘more like a boy’?”
“I… Don’t really have any better way to explain it.” The Master taps his chin. “It’s like being happy or sad. It’s a very personal emotion. I can’t put it into words any better than that.”
Well. That means nothing to Artoria. She has a title (king) and a sex (female) but she can’t say she’s ever had any particularly strong emotion tied to either of these things.
Though… There are days where her draconic heart seems to act up. Days where she feels less human and more like a lizard- not in a derogatory way, or an affectionate way, but just… in a way. Days where she finds herself more at home with the likes of Siegfried or Elizabeth, days where fire rather than blood seems to flow in her veins.
It’s not quite the same, but that’s the closest comparison Artoria can think of. “I think I understand.”
The Master nods, pleased. “Though I’m a special case. Most people can’t magically shapeshift into whatever body is more comfortable to them at the moment. Well, there’s still surgery and HRT-”
“Hold on.” She raises her hand palms up to cut them off. “You are telling me gender feelings have nothing to do with magecraft?”
“Well, yes.” He tilts his head towards the wall. “Hence the whole flag thing. I didn’t make it up. There are legitimately a lot of us out there.”
Of us, he says. What was the word he used again? Transgender?
For some reason, she finds herself thinking of Sir Mordred. A king can only be male, but a knight can be of any gender- Sir Gareth had certainly proved her worth as a female knight. Yet Sir Mordred had only ever presented as male. He had Artoria’s face. Presumably he had her sex as well. Yet on that fateful day he explicitly called himself her son.
Did Sir Mordred have these? Gender feelings? Certainly they must have been stronger than Artoria’s own- now that she is no longer duty-bound to present as a man, Artoria isn’t going out of her way to look like one gender over another. Being greeted as a man or a woman wouldn’t bother her either way. She thinks Sir Mordred would have minded, though.
“Apologies, Master.” Artoria gets up. “I need to do some research.”
She doubts her knights would ever want to see her again- while she no longer regrets the path she took in life, she can hardly fault them for holding a grudge, considering how she failed them- but on the off-chance that they might be summoned in Chaldea… it can’t hurt to be informed, can it?

especially after the events of olympus it is paramount that fgo players understand that they are not above the narrative, and the story's antagonists will never be as cartoonish and one-dimensional as they might think they are. their motivations, their thoughts, and their goals will always be more complex than the most surface level reading, and often you will not know what they are right away. passing judgment upon them is stupid, the decisions they've made come from far more gray and far less lenient circumstances. it's always been that way. you are not immune to making those same choices. that's the point. from the earliest days of the fate series, way back during the original vn era, one of the most compelling and prevalent ideas within the story was you might have something in common with your worst enemy. you might have also walked down their path had your roles been reversed. you cannot say you could have objectively done better or worse simply because you have the benefit of hindsight and because your experiences were different. shit, ubw smacks you on the head with this by making its main protagonist and main antagonist the same fucking person.
this is especially evident with the crypters. everyone wants to brand them as insecure, jealous, holier-than-thou mass murderers. this is disproven as early as lostbelt 1. kadoc didn't take part in the bleaching of the earth's surface. he says explicitly that when he woke up from cryostasis, the world had already been bleached. he wasn't truly jealous of you, he was taking out the trauma of being denied a purpose and then dying out on someone like him. had guda been in his position, they would've reacted the same. he cools off in lostbelt 2, which is why he is kinder and happy to see your gaze has regained some measure of resolve.
ophelia, akuta, and pepe also reinforce this. none of them took part of the bleaching, and they killed no one. the bleaching was all the alien god. the lostbelts were all the work of the alien god. the only thing here that matters is that the alien god chose wodime as their emissary, and the other crypters were expendable. kirschtaria did not accept this. he would not abandon his friends, his comrades, his family. the choice was to cooperate with the alien god or die. could you have seriously, in all honesty, chosen differently? could you, knowing the entire earth was doomed by a product of its history, honestly have decided to keel over and taken your loved ones down with you? could you look me in the eye with zero bullshit and zero hesitation and tell me to my face you wouldn't have chosen to cooperate if it meant you had an opportunity to turn things around so none of those billions of deaths were for nothing and the world wouldn't belong to the being behind that destruction?
the lostbelt competition was a foregone conclusion. everyone knew kirschtaria was going to win, because the contest was designed that way. the alien god only intended for kirschtaria to win, and kirschtaria knew this. which is why he used his connection to the crypters as leverage. the other lostbelts were never meant to survive, they were kirschtaria's way of keeping the crypters out of the alien god's watch. that's why kadoc, pepe, and beryl weren't killed by kirschtaria when their lostbelts went SNAFU. it is an immensely cruel thing to do to all those worlds and all those lives, yet would you have done differently? if the lives of your loved ones were at stake, if you were being surveilled at all times with a gun to your head ready to pull the trigger at the slightest disobedience, would you have been so reckless as to put the people you cared about in harm's way? because that's what kirschtaria's position was. the alien god was ready to crush kirschtaria's heart if he broke their contract, and tipping off the crypters that he intended to do so would've gotten them all killed.
ultimately, that's what drives the conflict between chaldea and the crypters. the shared need to survive pitting them against each other. there is no guarantee chaldea can restore proper human history, and wodime could not take that chance when he had a plan of his own and the clear methods with which to accomplish it. a new world, a new humanity, free to make new mistakes and reach new heights, free from the grip of the gods, free from the grip of the systemic forces that plagued not just the lostbelts but proper human history itself.
and i need to stress that the story isn't trying to justify the deaths (if we can even call them that, in all likelihood) of 7 billion people by trying to say "maybe wodime was right!" what the story is saying is that, if there was a staggering loss of life, what alternative would humanity have to even have hope of moving forward? through lostbelts 1 - 4, you may be helping these worlds die peacefully, but you are still letting them die over the chance that you might restore proper human history. your success is an uncertain inkling, yet you have no choice but to move forward and accrue suffering to make sure NONE of those deaths are in vain. you are not judged for it, because the story knows there is no right or wrong answer to this kind of conflict, and the same principle applies to the crypters.
need i remind you that olympus ends with people being crushed by buildings, abandoning all hope, quivering and perishing in absolute terror as the only world they've ever known crumbles around them and the only beings that could save them were killed by your hand and by your order because there was no other way out. it is a gruesome death, an unsightly death. and it is brought about by your actions, and it is a terrible burden. and it is the exact same burden carried by kirschtaria, because he was a member of team A tasked with safeguarding humanity, and he failed. he does not claim that proper human history is full of too many mistakes to salvage because he is above them. he claims so because he also made mistakes in his own limited existence and doesn't want that for whatever humanity can still exist in the world he means to make.
and you know what? kirschtaria even understands what you’re doing. he is the only one who can. he cannot agree but he understands. which is why he never denies you the opportunity to prove yourself. he opposes you, challenges you, dares you. but he never denies you. he says “you think you can bring back proper human history? prove it. prove you have the conviction necessary to bear it and beat me with it.” and then you do. because he wanted you to, because he believed in you from the very start that you could do it if you set your mind to it because kirschtaria wodime for better or worse believes in mankind, and you do too.
so, tl;dr you and the crypters are the same do not be so arrogant as to pretend you are better than the story and you are the perfect blameless unbiased judge of everything ever because you look really stupid doing that

Day Off, Arm Day [Oberon x Reader]
Word Count: 461
Warning(s): None
Author Note: I will be quite clear; I would love Oberon with multiple arms. This exists out of sheer degeneracy. Also moving stuff from my Ao3 to here!
It was a busy day at Chaldea but you would like nothing more than to hole yourself up in your own room and relax. Fortunately, everyone seemed to allow that- except for one.
"Oi, (Y/N). Heard you had a day off so I'm joining in!" The moth prince enters the dark chambers that is considered your bedroom. You see, when you meant hole yourself up, you really did mean you were going to stay in as much as possible. One might even mistaken such NEET behavior is equivalent to Ganesha or Osakabehime. The lights were off, you had your blankets and pillows piled up in the bed like a little tent with your laptop inside providing a faint light. There was no way of knowing his presence since you had your headphones on. Either way, it wasn't going to stop Vortigern from being an invasive species. Out of the corner of your eye, you see one.. two... wait- three? FOUR!?!? All these extra hands slowly crawling in until revealing a mildly disheveled Oberon wearing a black hoodie and sweats. "H-HEY!? Wait- when- am I dreaming again?" You couldn't truly wrap your head around it but now you're sharing your little tent space with the one of few servants capable of wiping your home if they ever desired to do so. He pinches your cheek with one hand before his other ones slowly position you two better- next thing you know you're sitting in-between his legs while he lays his head on your shoulder as you two watched your laptop.
The silence was comforting but the one thing that ate you away in your thoughts was... were all servants capable of this?... I mean, spirit origin is based off of interpretation as well as determination for a few servants like Beserker Jack the Ripper but- "Hey, (Y/N), you're thinking again." Oberon flicks your forehead. "Ow- sorry! Sorry. I was just wondering how.. how you have all this?" Your hand trails one of his arms wrapped around you before settling above his hand. "What, limbs? All servants have limbs." He states so matter-in-fact. "Ooh you know what I mean. How could you- uURK!!- " Oberon squeezes you within his embrace, expunging any air you had in your lungs. He nuzzles into your neck, making the sensation ticklish as his hair flurries against your skin before his grip on you relaxes once more. "Mmm... I guess I'll grant you an answer.... I just can." That answers nothing- you thought. Either way, you ultimately dropped the subject.
During that time, occasionally he'd leave and come back with snacks and packed meals from the cafeteria, effortlessly making your room look more and more a mess as you both dwindle the hours away together.

End of a Dream (oneshot)
Characters: Oberon Vortigern, Blanca, original character
Setting: Lostbelt 6 Avalon le Fae
Summary: After the Autumn Woods' destruction, Myra reaches out to comfort her friend.
In the wake of Tam Lin Gawain’s onslaught, there was only ash. The smoldering ruins of the Autumn Woods billowed with smoke. Despite the best efforts of Artoria and Myra to help search, not a single survivor was found.
With nothing left to save, the group had quietly departed. Everyone had turned in for the night, save for three - the Child of Prophecy and the Chaldea Master were about to see off their friend, as he was about to slip out under the cover of night.
“You wanna talk to him?” Myra aksed Artoria.
“I think you’d be better at that than me,” Artoria said.
Getting up, Myra could see him a ways off, wearing his traveling attire, his hair as silvery as the moonlight in the darkness. He hadn’t seemed to notice her following him, so she quickened her pace a bit and caught up to him, catching him by the wrist.
“Can’t sleep again?” Oberon asked teasingly, but was suddenly cut off when, without warning, Myra threw her arms around him in a hug.
“I’m so sorry about what happened to you,” she said, “Oberon, I wish we’d gotten there sooner. I wish we could have saved the Welsh Fairies,”
In the soft light of the moon, he could see her dark eyes glistening with tears.
“Oh, is that what this is?” Oberon asked innocently, “Don’t worry yourself sick about me, alright, Myra? It was my own fault, and it’s a burden I have to bear,”
“You shouldn’t have to deal with this all alone,” Myra said, “I’m your friend, and I care about you too. If you ever want to come to me with anything…well, I’m not really sure what I can offer. I’m sorry. I don’t know what to say,”
Oberon looked at her for a moment with an unreadable expression, his eyes almost seeming to glow a bit in the darkness. Then, he answered her with a rueful smile.
“What is there left to say?” he shrugged, “What’s done is done, and I was never going to be strong enough to save them. All I can do is move on,”
“You’re lying,” Myra said, “I know you must be heartbroken over this. You don’t have to hide that from me,”
“That’s just the kind of person you are, isn’t it?” he sighed, almost sounding exasperated, “Listen, Myra, you’re a good friend for reaching out to me, but I don’t want you getting choked up on my behalf. You’ve got your mission to worry about, no need to concern yourself with me,” He smiled “And now that the Welsh Fairies are gone, I can devote all my attention to helping you and the Child of Prophecy! That’s good for you, isn’t it?”
“There’s no way you’re happy about any of this,” Myra said sadly, “but you’ll just keep turning me away, won’t you? Fine, I get it, trust me, I do. I’m exactly like you are, burying my feelings so no one has to see how weak I really am,”
“Nah, it isn’t like that, Myra,” Oberon said, “I’m just handling it in my own way. Now go on, get back to the camp and get some rest, I’ll go and gather intelligence,”
“Alright, I’ll leave you alone,” Myra said, “And I didn’t mean to call you weak. I’m sorry,”
“Hahaha, I don’t take it personally, Myra!” Oberon chuckled while he playfully patted her on the shoulder, “You meant well, didn’t you? You’re such a good friend, I’m lucky to have you!”
“If you ever need a place to stay,” Myra said, “You can come to Chaldea,”
“Okay, I’ll see about it,” Oberon said, “Goodnight, Myra. Go and get some sleep, you’ve got an early day ahead of you!”
“Take care, Oberon,” Myra said, before finally running off back to the rest of the group.
Once she was finally out of sight, Oberon rubbed his temples in frustration, letting out a heavy sigh that sounded more like a low growl.
“That’s exactly what I hate about you,” he said to himself, “As if you had any right to console me, when your end goal was always to destroy Fairy Britain. Did I ask for your pity?”
In truth, he couldn’t help but feel comforted by the girl’s compassion for him, and this is what disgusted him more than anything else. She was supposed to be his enemy, (not that she knew that), and yet, here she was, offering a shoulder to cry on like they’d been long-time friends.
It was only a testament to how stupid she really was, how easily fooled she was. It’d be all the more satisfying once he’d revealed to her the truth.
He made his way back to what remained of the Autumn Woods, his hair as black as the burnt husks of the trees that were now reduced to ashes. He searched the rubble for the bodies of the Welsh Fairies, finding the wings that were the least damaged, the least charred from the smoke.
He could not save them, and he never made any pretense that he ever could, and yet, they accepted him, made him their king, gave him a place and a home. Though he detested being Oberon the Fairy King, he could never bring himself to hate the Welsh Fairies, even if they repulsed him.
They had given him all they had, and yet, he couldn’t even save them.
But no matter. He would make sure all who had rejected his subjects would suffer unimaginably. Especially that Fang Clan woman. For her, he’d only reserve the most horrific torment.
But for now, he’d bide his time. He gathered together the delicate wings, hairs, bits of broken limbs, carefully weaving them together into one massive cloak.
He would carry their bodies as his regalia, always keeping a piece of them with himself. Even with his kingdom in ruins, he was still the Fairy King.
Wrapping it about his shoulders, he saw that it was a bit bigger than he’d anticipated, but he didn’t mind. It just served to make his form appear bigger as well, which suited him fine.
His attention now turned to the large white moth who watched him with her unblinking black eyes. His shoulders slumped.
“I’m sorry, Blanca,” he said regretfully, “Well, I never did promise I would be of any use to your people, did I? It’s your own fault for putting your hopes in me,”
The Princess of the Welsh Fairies saw through him, as she always did. She fluttered around him and landed on his shoulder, taking a moment to examine his cloak with her antennae before crawling just under his chin, brushing her fuzzy body against him before finally stopping with her head rested over his other shoulder.
This was her way of consoling him, of forgiving him. She never faulted him for his weakness, as he never faulted his subjects for theirs.
“Do you like it, Blanca?” he asked her, reaching a hand up to pet her soft body. “How miserable, that even an insect would pity me! That stupid girl was right - I really am weak,”
He stood amid the ashes under the glow of the moon, holding his princess in his arms.

Hey, I just started Arknights (coming from fgo lol) and I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I got Gravel on my first roll, is that good? Should I be using records to level up my operators quickly, or should I save them? Are the starting characters like Yato and Rangers worth leveling? Sorry, I really like the game so far but I feel like I don't know what I'm doing.
Not to worry, I'm familiar with this dance
Raise your 3 stars first - The low rarity units in this game are surprisingly strong for the costs it takes to raise them, which is why any new player guide worth its salt will tell you to invest in them early rather than putting all your resources into your higher rarity units right away (who cost exponentially more to raise). Your 3 stars will be enough to carry you through the early story chapters as well as the resource farming stages, which will help you build your higher rarity units a lot easier.
Build your base - Clearing the early story chapters unlocks base building. Think about it as if you could build Chaldea / the Wandering Sea base and see your servants milling about. This is important because you can passively gain both LMD (the equivalent of QP) and records (embers) from your base by setting up factories to make gold and XP records, and a trading post to sell the gold. The farther you get in the main story, the more of the base you can unlock and build to really cut down on grinding time. Different operators will have different base skills that can improve your base too, and the 3 stars have some pretty strong ones which makes investing in them early even better!
Don't mind all the extra stuff yet - There's like a fuckton of game modes like Integrated Strategies, Stationary Security Service, or Contingency Contract that a new player shouldn't worry about. These are endgame shit for built players. Don't worry about missing out, rewards that are exclusive to IS or CC are permanently there so you don't have to fear missing out.
Don't completely max out characters - It's slower to raise characters in Arknights than it is in FGO, and you are NOT encouraged to totally max out a character's level because costs balloon with both levels and rarity. For example, if you have Gilgamesh in FGO and you stop at level 80 after getting his ascension 3, you'd be nuts, you're missing out on stats! But in Arknights, many people leave their operators at Elite 2 (Ascension 3 equivalent) level 40 or so even when their operators can go up to 90, because as a strategy / puzzle game your victory is a lot less dependent on stats than the strategic value of your solution, and also because levelling from Elite 2 50-90 is insanely expensive for minor stat increases. I say this having a fuckton of maxed out characters, don't do it it's horribly inefficient. Only max out an operator for love, since AK doesn't have a grails feature.
Pace Yourself - There's no need to rush. Any event that has already had a rerun becomes permanently added to the game via the "Side Stories" menu for you to play, and old welfare operators that have had their rerun some time ago will become permanently unlocked for new players to get anytime. You have a base that can passively farm LMD and XP for you, event shops give out lots of materials (just like in FGO, it's much easier to get mats from event shops, and event stages also have a lot of material drops), even perfectly clearing a stage unlocks an auto-deploy function for it, so even farming an event becomes as simple as pushing a button and then doing anything else with your time while the game plays itself.
Also to answer your question, Gravel is good yes, though not in a way you might be used to. Gravel's combination of having extremely fast redeploy time and having tank skills is great for new players still learning the game and using her to plug any holes in their defenses or fix mistakes, but then as you get more experienced you stop seeing a use for her. Then you get WAY more experienced and play the WAY HARDER endgame challenge content and you realize you need Gravel again.
Don't feel shy about asking for more help! It can be a really challenging puzzle game

Rin gasped as the ribbon -the last remains of Ariadne- disappeared from her hand. It was gone. Just like Sakura. Just like Shirou, when he walked out of her life, only for her to find out years later that he was executed. Just like Setanta, whose blood was now dry on her shirt. Rin let out a shaky breath. This lostbelt's king is dead, and it's time for everything to fall apart. "Tohsaka! What are you doing? We need to get out of here!" Chaldea's master called out. Yeah, this place is falling apart. Soon, one of these rocks will come down to crush her. "Tohsak-" Rin shot Hakuno's shoulder with a Gandr. The shot only grazed her skin, leaving Hakuno and Mash confused and on alert. "I'm not going with you." Rin glared at them. "Leave, or I'll kill you." "Are you kidding me?! This is not the time for-" "Face me! Chaldea!" Rin shot again, but Mash blocked it, and looked at her with somber eyes. "Either face me, or leave me!" "Tohsaka-senpai…" Mash's eyes begged her to stop. "Is this really how you deal with an enemy?" Rin smirked. "You just beg them to come with you? You really think you can do anything with that soft attitude? You think being 'good' and 'helpful' will turn everything around? Well, it doesn't!" Rin's smirk faded, and her expression was just tired. She was too tired to even feel angry anymore. "Good people never get the rewards they deserve. That's the kind of world you're protecting." Hakuno's expression hardened. Was she upset? Good. This will make things a lot easier. Hakuno walked towards her, and Rin continued to point her finger, ready to shoot. "Do you get it, now? You just have to get rid of anyone who stands in your way." Kill me. Rin's eyes quietly begged. Please let me die. Life has been nothing but hell. Hakuno suddenly punched her, making Rin stumbled backwards. Now that's a pleasant surprise. "Senpai?!" Mash was surprised. "I guess you're not all soft…" Rin spit out some blood, and laughed. "You can pack a punch, who would have thought?" "I jusr figured that you might need a wake up call." Hakuno then pulled Rin by her coat's collar. "So you're just going to let Setanta's death go in vain?! Did everything Orpheus say to you mean nothing? You've tricked Ariadne all this time, and you think you can just get away and not deal with the consequences?" "Yeah. Pretty much." Rin shrugged. "Would be better for us both if you let me just die." "Well if you want to kill yourself so badly, do it when I'm not around!" Hakuno tightened her grip. "I can't let you die." Rin hated this woman. Hakuno's expression looked pained, as if she was trying not to cry. What's with her? Why couldn't she let her die in peace? Everyone Rin has ever loved is dead. "Fine. Let's die together, then." Rin pulled out her gems. "I can make all of these explode right now. I can just take you with me." "Sure you can. You can't even die properly." Hakuno glared at her. "You couldn't even kill me." "What?" "I was barely conscious when we both fell. You had your knife against my throat, and yet you threw the knife away." Rin sighed. "Right… The knife." Before Hakuno could process what she was saying, Rin pushed away and grabbed her knife. "Idiot!" Rin dug the knife into her chest, much to Hakuno and Mash's horror. "You idiot!" Hakuno was quick to catch her. "Mash! Quick let's carry her out of here!" "Didn't think… The last person I'd see was you, but oh well." Rin's chuckle was cut off with a cough. "A lame face to be sure, but at least it's not a Matou. That's a special brand of ugly." "Tohsaka-senpai! Please save your strength!" Mash carefully carried her. "We'll heal you once we get back!" "Idiot… The point is that I don't…" Rin sighed. The sharp pain in her chest made it hard to talk. Oh well. "You won't die!" Hakuno said as they ran. So stubborn. But… So kind as well. Rin smiled, and closed her eyes. She was hoping to see Sakura again, but realistically speaking, she was probably going to hell. Still, it's a nice tought, isn't it? Gathering around with the people she loved under the cherry blossoms? What a nice dream… That would be…

gudao/angra mainyu ship manifesto/essay because I’ve finally lost my mind
think about it like this: angra mainyu is all the world’s evils, a scapegoat for a village’s misfortune. he never wanted this, and yet it became a core part of his identity. his remaining sense of ego is a miracle, even if it’s been fundamentally changed by their curses, even if “his” true name has been removed from existence.
and yet in fha, he lives in the skin of someone who is loved, someone surrounded by friends who care for his well-being. prepared meals, romantic sunsets, summer time fun. and it changes him. he sacrifices this endless loop of false joy so that the living could continue on. he lets go of the one chance at happiness available to all the world’s evil.
ritsuka is the last master of humanity. he is a mage of little talent, save his abilities as a master and his connections to his servants. over and over again, he’s forced to destroy countless doomed worlds, in hopes of restoring his own. how is he meant to be a hero? how could he possibly feel like this is the right thing to do?
I think they would have a lot to discuss as these figures chosen by forces out of their control to be grand representatives: angra mainyu, as the bearer of the world’s sons, and ritsuka, as the bearer of the hopes of humanity. because neither of them perfectly fit those roles, no matter what they feel or what other people expect of them.
I think gudao would see angra mainyu as one of the few servants he can connect with. I have a headcanon that in general, ritsuka still struggles with juggling the different power levels and personalities of all these larger than life heroes, even into the lostbelts. (don’t even get me started on the possible body dysmorphia/low self esteem you might get when you’re surrounded by hundreds of people summoned in the prime of their life…) in comparison, angra mainyu is Just Some Guy who happens to be really good at killing humans. angra mainyu might be one of the few people besides mash that gudao would be able to talk to on a normal level, because hey, they’re both just two dudes, right? what’s better than this??? just guys bein dudes…
with angra mainyu’s history, I think he would be a surprising pillar of support for gudao during his journey. he reminds ritsuka that he is still just a human, perfectly flawed, despite what chaldea considers him, and despite how his actions in the lostbelts make him feel. he delivers this, of course, in his own foul mouthed way, with jabs at when ritsuka tries to pretend like he believes that everything he’s doing is right and just in the name of PHH, but ritsuka learns to read between the lines, especially when angra comes knocking with the dinner ritsuka forgot to get that night.
(i also think they would be very cute together. i need to see them tease each other, I need to see ritsuka catch angra in the middle of an awful prank. I need angra to try so hard and fail at making something for ritsuka because he thought it would be quicker to bake some cookies for 1 second at 3000 degrees Celsius or smth. im sorry im sick in the head about them.)

Sorry if this is super tmi btw (I once had chest pain on my left side, anything that wasn't sitting still and breathing shallowlly was very painful and I went to the ER, i would not recommend it) I'd like some headcanons about a master with high blood pressure/heart issues with Fate/grand Orders Mori nagayoshi and caster Merlin, if you would be so kind dear author ♥️
I hope you feel better Anon, that doesn’t sound fun. Well wishes for you!
Warnings: Health Issues, Going to the Doctor, Long Term Health Affects, Heart Issues, Mentions of Chronic Issues/Pain, Illegally Looking through Medical Records (Merlin), Taking Medication
Mori Nagayoshi:
Mori isn’t going to notice anything unless you tell him yourself. As much as he cares about your safety, it’s from an external perspective. Sure, he notices if you trip or something like that but heart issues are outside his wheelhouse. Once you tell him, he’s a lot more conscious about how things can affect you and your heart.
He is, despite his best efforts, horrible at helping with your issues. Even when telling other people to leave you alone, Mori is yelling and adding more stress to the situation. He’s a lot quicker to calm down once he knows that your heart might not be able to take it. You’re not that fragile but don’t tell him that; better that he tries to restrain himself, even if it’s only a little.
Mori is great about getting people to give you space. If you’re having pain or need a minute he’s always there, being a physical barrier to anyone trying to get to you. It’s very helpful during field missions but he’ll do it back at Chaldea too. It’s wonderful to have a Berserker barrier between you and the world.
Mori loves intimidating people for you and he’s discovered a special love of making the doctors nervous. He knows that you don’t love going and makes it his mission that they all ‘behave’. What he means by this you don’t really know but doctors take you a lot more seriously than before and it’s nice. Part of you feels a little guilty but mostly bringing Mori ends a lot better than you would have feared.
Merlin (Caster):
Merlin knows the first time that meets you that something is going on. He is, at the end of the day, a healer and it’s not hard to notice things. He always plays off his concern but he does check in on you more than he did before. Merlin claims that he’s better with a sword than healing but don’t listen to him.
He may sneak a look at your medical records. It’s totally not illegal because the concept of hospitals is gone. There’s no world right now you know. He does it to make sure he can support you and it’s coming from a good place, even if it’s not ethical. If you end up telling him yourself, he’ll pretend he didn’t know specifics and the truth will never come out.
Merlin is wonderful in dealing with chronic pain. If he notices that you’re uncomfortable or in pain, a small healing spell is thrown your way. He uses his magic to support you and if you complain he waves you off. He’s a great mage Master, a few stray healing spells isn’t going to wear him out. No worries.
He thinks that it’s important you manage your health in terms of getting better. If you have to take medication, he’ll remind you and then see what happens. He’s not cruel if you forget (he always has extras) but he’s a bit of a mom about it. Merlin doesn’t love traditional doctors but if they’ve given you something, for sure he’s going to make you take it.

omg hi anna. answer all the problematic/villain qs. all of them
thank you so much for this my fellow villain lover
Tumblr media
1. How often does your character admit to being wrong? Do they ever change their way of thinking?
He has lived most of his life following a certain path and convictions, so I highly doubt those core beliefs of his would be suddenly or easily shaken; he is not a proud or arrogant person, however. Seeing other perspective may not sway him at all, but he may consider the other side, even without being able to empathize with it.
3. What's an inherently problematic view your character holds?
Well, putting aside the 'unholy abomination is not evil yet and it doesn't matter if it destroys the world as long as it gives me an answer', I think that when it comes to everyday situations it's not that he has inherently problematic views, it's just that... he does not care about any and all social issues. Oh, and not being above manipulation and murder but that's a given :)
4. Does your muse deserve a second chance?
From a realistic and objective point of view, probably not, after the 5th war and what he wanted to do and did to achieve that goal especially. Most of it never came to light even after his death, but still.
That will not stop me from thinking about a post HGW AU where he lives and needs to cope with surviving, though ;)
And well... he sort of did get a second chance in chaldea, no? he's still very much his unnerving self, but with some more clarity and lightheartedness.
5. What makes your muse respect someone? Are they capable of respecting others without reason?
Basic respect is almost (there are some exceptions when it comes to certain characters such as Kerry, Zouken, Douman) always afforded to others, especially considering his position as a priest; other than it not being how he was raised/in his temperament to do so, what kind of image would he give off, were he to be disrespectful to his parishioners and those in need of help?
8. Does your character feel like they're in the wrong? If so does it bother them?
He does not know if he is in the wrong. That is the big crux of the matter. Kirei knows that his actions are wrong when viewed through the lenses of normal people's morality and sensibility. And of course, having been raised as a man of strong morals, and knowing how repugnant it all is, it will always bother him immensely, no matter what he might tell himself or others.
11. Do you feel like your muse can fall/be corrupted further if pushed?
This one's pretty short and easy: not really. He's already at the bottom of the barrel, methinks. And any further would just go against his beliefs. His third ascension in fgo does not even count as 'further corruption' because according to the saint graph, that is his truest self.
13. When it comes to your muse's loved ones, are they the exception to their behavior or are they also treated poorly?
He has no loved ones. Not in the traditional sense, at least. During the war, even those that are close to him (the one example being Rin) are not exempt from being used to further his schemes--he may have raised her for ten years and felt affection in his own twisted way, but when she became an obstacle during fate route and a possible vessel during ubw, he had no qualms hurting her.
It's not like he treats others poorly to begin with, all those around him are... interesting, to say the least. Alienating them would be of no benefit. Again, using Rin as an example, he takes enough of an interest in her to give her birthday/christmas presents, and while it may partly be to get a rise out of her, he still does it out of genuine consideration. It's not something he would do for anyone.
In more relaxed/better situations or AUs he'd still be mr grumpypants with one albino, though more nonchalant, and an annoying dad with the other.

When a person loses their mind, it might not be apparent to everyone around them. Insanity isn't a binary, after all. It's not as if one can flip a switch to go from 'reasonable' to 'completely lacking in all logic' so everyone knows what's wrong.
Sometimes, it's a more subtle change at first.
Tumblr media
"..."
Medusa's been walking down the halls a brisker pace, since the events of that night. If she lingers too long near the Avenger Hall, her uncontrollable arousal will return, and she knows it. In fact, even seeing Barghest or Gorgon might drive her into a heat that she can't quench.
Tumblr media
Which is embarrassing. She's better than that, better than mindlessly surrendering to her primal instincts without so much as a by-your-leave. That's something a base animal would do. Medusiana is a more refined woman, with a more refined goal than simply orgasm.
Tumblr media
She wants to get fucking fat.
It's a goal she's only awakened to since that incident a few days ago, but now that she's got it, she has no idea how she EVER went without it. It just makes so much sense!
The enormity...the heft, the weight, the splendor, the glory that comes with being bigger and better than anyone and everyone...how could she have missed out on that? She was such a fool for trying to be slim...such a damn fool.
Everyone else had the right idea, so she had to get what they got! Then she could outpace them.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, it's not that simple. It turns out, when EVERYONE'S trying to glut themselves into a massive hog, the leftover food supply vanishes with a quickness. Which can get to be even more of a problem when you're so thin that barely anyone can see you, rendering Boudica and Raikou's fattening plot sort of moot.
If she were a BIT fat, she'd be perfectly spottable, but at her weight, she sort of blends into her Rider self and Avenger self through the crowd.
So she's a bit testy right now, stalking down the hall and gritting her teeth.
"Those damn hogs...! Don't they know that I'm the one that deserves to be that big?! That I'm the one that should be greedily belching up a storm and burying my face in food?!"
This is Medusa's insanity. Such delusion and egoism, buried under a thin veneer of stoicism and quiet calm...it was awakened by coincidence, arrived here by pure chance, and yet...it has nearly consumed her.
Tumblr media
That I-"
Tumblr media
"My, you've grown into quite the goal-oriented girl, haven't you, dear? I think you're very pretty like this, though, darling. Much like Persephone in some respects.~"
Tumblr media
"GAH!"
Medusa leaps back, instinctively drawing Chrysaor and pointing it forward at the sound of that voice. It takes a moment for her shock to wear off and recognition to kick in.
Tumblr media
"Tch."
She sheathes her sword and places her hand on her hip, instantly reverting to the more typical Medusa demeanor. Her lie.
She hates the gods, but Demeter's done her no wrongs personally. She can, at the least, hear her out before she disregards everything she says.
"What do you want, Demeter?"
Tumblr media
"My, my...You've got a real attitude, don't you, honey? I just came to tell you a little secret I learned that you might like."
Demeter's not the biggest in Chaldea; Hell, she's not even officially on the registrar of Servants because she's not supposed to be there, but she's a pleasantly immense 650 pounds of motherly, godly lard. Her belly, a double-rolled complex of a gut, hangs almost to her knees, causing her heavy breaths even as she stands in place. Her hips flare out wide, her entire figure built to support those birthing cakes. And her fat fucking tits?
Tumblr media
Well, the less said about those, the less likely it is for Raikou and Boudica to realize that Barghest is small potatoes compared to their real challenger.
The point is, Demeter is fat, and Medusa isn't.
Tumblr media
Vehement jealousy.
"What secret would that be...?"
Trying to keep a lid on her temper, until-
Tumblr media
"You like that...Sakura girl, yes? Purple hair, shy demeanor, very sweet and helpf-GNH?!"
Tumblr media
Her demeanor instantly shifts, and she's pushing Demeter against the nearest wall before the Caster can think. Her arm is barred against the goddess's fat-swaddled throat, and her Mystic Eyes shine ferociously.
"Where is she? Is she here?"
Tumblr media
"Nnnh...oh dear...you're so bold...~"
Ignoring the heat growing in her nethers (that definitely requires attention later), Demeter retains her composure against the woman's ferocious fanaticism quickly, smiling at her as she tries to get through her explanation again.
Tumblr media
"I stumbled upon a most wonderful girl the other day while looking for the fertilizer in the Alter Ego Hall. Their plants are awfully under cared-for... Anyway, the sweetest girl, and she said she was a part of the 'Sakura Five'. She matched the profile of that girl you like so much...I figured you might want to know. And I hear she also knows a way to get big fast."
Tumblr media
Medusa feels her heart might burst.
Sakura!
Her master within the Paper Moon, and the woman that EVERY medusa instinctively loves. She couldn't possibly know the latter, of course, but Sakura's still here. And she knows about gaining! She has to see her right away. The 'five' part completely missed her ears.
-
It is this moment, dear viewers, that prevents our story from going very, very dark. It is the selfless love that Medusa feels for another that stops her from becoming her unscrupulous avenger self, or a far worse menace than that woman had ever been. Mistake of identity or no...she is still rather human.
Please remember that, as the story progresses.
-
Tumblr media
"Ah, one more thing, dearie...Her name wasn't actually Saku-"
Tumblr media
"...She's gone."
She is indeed, the sound of heeled boots clacking against the metal tiling the only proof that Demeter hadn't just imagined getting kabedoned by the Saber. That the obese mother hadn't just let one of her fantasies seep into delusion.
Tumblr media
She would've masturbated to the sensation of being pinned to the wall until she collapsed regardless, but she can at least take solace in the fact that she's getting off to a real event instead of her own mania.
-
Tumblr media
"Hmhmhmhmhm...~"
Passionlip is having a great day.
First, she got to eat steak for breakfast, with extra helpings of pancakes and eggs on the side, and didn't get nagged about her teeth! Then, she got to head back to her room for her daily routine, and ran into someone VERY nice and helpful on the way back!
Tumblr media
And now, she's hooked up to her normal apparatus, cheerfully humming a ditty with a smile on her face. She likes her special job; She can be of use to everyone AND the tingling feels great!
Nothing could go wron-
Tumblr media
"SAKURAAAAAAAAAA!"
SMASH! The door of Passionlip's 'office' caves in as a full body slams into it, sending it flying into the opposite wall.
Tumblr media
"HWAH!"
Lip yelps in fear as she stares at the figure that just broke her special door, instinctively bunching herself up (as much as one can with two massive metal claws and a morbidly obese frame like her own) in an attempt to seem smaller.
"W-Who are you?!"
Tumblr media
"What a silly question. It's me, Sakura. Saber, remember?"
Medusa brushes steel chunks off her pants as she rises to her feet, turning to face that familiar voice with a smile. Her drip is immaculate, and Passionlip quietly murmurs in envy at the sight of it when they come face to face.
"Your Sab-"
Tumblr media
"..."
Medusa's mouth hangs open as she drinks in the sight of Passionlip, Alter-Ego of Love and Hate...
and her massive fucking milking machine.
Tumblr media
"D-D-Don't stare...!"
Passionlip's whiny demand goes unheard by the Saber, who's still stunlocked by what she's looking at to the point that her Mystic Eyes deactivate.
Tumblr media
Firstly, Sakura got fucking huge. Not only is her former Master's weight easily in the realm of a ton, but her figure's completely absurd too! A gut that hangs over her soft, plump, plush thighs, gurgling and churning with insatiable hunger after every breath the purple-haired woman takes, and thighs that could make Melusine envious are impressive, sure, but not what Medusa really cares about; There's a MASSIVE quantity of women with those traits in Chaldea, after all.
No, what really makes Medusa gape is the fuckoff-massive milkjugs making those other features practically invisible.
They have to be as big as Medusa is, for fuck's sake, and that's probably being conservative in her estimation. There's also two of them. If Medusa wasn't trapped weighing her jealousy at the sight she's been given, her absolute love and admiration for sakura, and her earnest and desperate desire to guzzle from one of those fat udders, she'd have leapt for them instantly.
Tumblr media
"U-Um...M-My name's Passionlip, but everyone calls me Lip..."
She didn't even care about the giant claw hands her Master had somehow acquired, nor the mumbling she was barely listening to.
That was Sakura's own privilege to do with her body, and far be it from her to stop the woman's choices. All that mattered to her was the fact that her Master's hyper-engorged knockers were hooked up to some sort of machine, and creamy, thick, heavy liquid is being milked out of them with indifferent efficiency, all leading...somewhere up above their current location.
Tumblr media
She's done weighing stuff. This sight is WAY too erotic for her to hold back on, and she can't help but recall Demeter's words the moment she realizes that it's 'Sakura's' own tittymilk being extracted.
"And I hear she also knows a way to get fat fast."
She realizes what she has to do. No regrets, no hesitations.
"Sakura..."
Her body shines as she shifts suddenly into her third Ascension, eyes bright.
Tumblr media
"Can I have some milk?"

002 Oberon!
002 | Give me a character & I will tell you
How I feel about this character:  I want to treat him like a kneaded eraser. I want to study him under a magnifying glass. I want to catch him in a butterfly net. Robin Goodfellow gives me cute aggression. I like him.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:  I don't really ship him passionately, but I get the Gudaobe appeal. I haven't read the recent JP summer event but apparently that makes it even better, so I'm excited to read that when it comes out in NA! (And hear Monty talk about what the translation got wrong)
My non-romantic OTP for this character:  His dynamic with Castoria is so... hhhh. I'm gnawing at the bars of my cage. I love this confusing cursed guy in a shitty world being kind to someone that has otherwise not received any kindness. The fact that she's hearing his Vortigern voice through the staff of selection too? Chef's kiss. Mwah. I love them.
My unpopular opinion about this character:  I don't think melon is his favorite fruit. I think, due to his always lying curse, he thinks it's fine and everyone interprets it as 'Haha, that Oberon and his melon!'. He thinks they're fine. He likes them alright. But sometimes he wants to enjoy a nice plum but everyone in Chaldea is giving him fuckin' melon.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: He should have given Blanca a kiss on her soft little forehead, and maybe even a nice treat or a chin scritch.
my OTP: Oberon x the beautiful person reading this post.
my cross over ship: Uh... hm, I dunno. Oberon/Kariya? Guy who is a bug x Guy who is filled with bugs. They both illuminate a certain part of my brain.
a headcanon fact: His favorite bugs are antlion larvae. :)
Also related but LOOK WHO ARRIVED LAST NIGHT

... Sonar, check. Communications, check. Alright, it's time to cruise. Let's try this out.
Tumblr media
Hello there, Master.
As you know, me and my memory partitions of the Nemo Series are a very recent addition to the Chaldean crew. In order to better acclimate ourselves to how things work with our new crewmares, I have, alongside Sion, read over reports and other data regarding your adventures.
... However, this has led to unforeseen dissent amongst my Nemo Series. They don't usually have much infighting, but before long they started saying stuff like "the trips to Camelot were the most well-baked of them all" or "are you messing with me! Of course Londinium's exploration of machinery made it the coolest!" and other such arguments.
Good grief. I expected everyone to think of our time in India as the best one. We were as cool as a sea cucumber out there, after all.
... but I digress. What matters is, this is making the Storm Border's well-coordinated school engage on petty squabbles, which will make us easy pickings for the first big shark that comes our way.
As such, I have decided to set up a poll!
Sion and Trimegistus helped us pull together this list of your greatest voyages. Weirdly, the computer even spit out names I have never seen before. I think this looks messier than a squid's ink screen, but Sion insisted on going with this data, so here we are.
I hope my partitions will quiet down and quit snipping around like crabs once they see the people's widespread decision. So rally the forces of Chaldea, and decide which of your conquests stands the tallest above sea level!
... why it is a tournament? ... Tournaments are cool.
sigh I should see if the Director has some sweets to spare, in the meantime... Oh. This is still on.

Recently finished fgo’s olympus so here are some bleary unorganized thoughts on it and my frustrations before i drift off to sleep
i think my biggest problem with olympus is that it over promises.
I think that the set up is amazing. Not referring to atlantis, though atlantis was great as everyone and their mother has said, but the whole sequence of a) entering olympus and b) exploring olympus is incredible. I think its one of the peak examples of fgo constantly being able to make you feel like their are Actual stakes in the narrative despite you as a player knowing that the tree will inevitably be cut and you’ll see the cosmos denied screen flash by again. Running through the city
Hell, Demeter’s entire entrance was bone chilling. I think she has the best mech design of the olympus gods in my biased opinion, and seeing her drop down before the animated screech she lets out that destroys the city was incredible. Truly the first time i saw it i went Holy Shit.
Then… i wont say the lostbelt flops after that but there were a few key areas that it left me wanting.
Personal preference out of the way, ill say the constant deus ex machinas - whether it be for the good guys or the bad guys (if the bad guy has a deus ex machina, is it called that?? Anyway) - started to get a little irritating after a while. The stakes were so, so high at the start, and demeters victory felt so barely clawed for with so many bits and pieces coming together that certain other fights felt like. “Well, okay then.” The twins revealing caligula and then saying “we didnt wanna say we had him for dramatic effect!” was really eye roll worthy, for example, and to be honest i dont really understand how we were able to shmoove our way out of aphrodites mind control hellscape, which was annoying after again i loved demeters fight So much
ill note there that these are things that didnt work for ME, in MY OPINION im sure other people feel other ways about it and i am happy for them for it :]
I think that parts of the lostbelt felt… rushed, and i didnt feel like the power scaling of chaldea matched narratively. With how much trouble we had for a single fighter at the start, i felt like in universe things got too easy with too little justification.
I was really disappointed with dioscuris writing, and also weirded out by the fact that there were twin humans and twin gods but very little was drawn about their connection…?? I was so certain that they would have some sort of relationship, or at least a cool narrative foil, but all we got was the twin humans hating the dioscuri because they killed their friends, and a cheap line about adele criticizing the girl twin for always following what her brother said.
I feel mixed about chaos, because in the moment i was emotionally moved but in retrospect it feels like a bit of a cheap non-foreshadowed reason for musashi to die epicly. Though maybe it was foreshadowed and i missed it; ill have to reread, but for now it just feels Too out of the blue to feel good.
But i think the thing that i think i disliked the most was “actually zeus was going to fuck off in the end and abandon the humans here letting them die so this lostbelt was evil from the start and gudako is objevtively right for this”
And like. Thats so AGGRAVATING for the lostbelt that was drummed up to be the one that would give us the most trouble, the lostbelt that was supposed to be the model one.
What i really wanted out of this lostbelt was a lostbelt that was objectively better than earth. That really? The only reason we could justify destroying it was for our own survival. Not because the lostbelt was in some way flawed, but because we have no other choice. With how sickly killing the first lostbelt felt, i really wanted lostbelt 5 to blow me out of the park with the emotional weight of killing a world and it just. didnt even try. It threw in some half assed line about why this lostbelt was well and truly evil
Which like! Honestly if it had been done well enough i couldve been fine with, couldve been happy with. But the twist that zeus actually was going to fuck off? That chaos was going to destroy all the humans anyway?? That zeus brainwashed the other gods to his side anyway????? I felt zero sympathy in destroying this lostbelt and i wanted to, SO badly
And i am All Here for a more in depth take on how humans have twisted robots into gods. How these ronots thought they could love humans but didnt hold the capacity for it!!! Honestly that concept is super cool!! I liked it!!! But like. The way it was delivered left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to care more about the tragedy it had wrought.
I wish that zeus’ defeat was something like… in attempting to defeat zeus, chaldea accidentally/maybe on purpose? Endangers the people of olympus. And through the motions of protecting them, zeus burns and falls to ruin. And as he lays there, he realizes that as much as he wants to care for these people hes protecting, he doesnt. And hes dying for what he feels is nothing.
If i put more thought to it i could come up with more ways the god plotline couldve been bettered on. But like. A third act twist where the reader is reassured that this lostbelt is undeniably evil is really one of the worst options they couldve taken at that point. Basically everything else i can forgive but that felt really sour in my mouth
And finally . I loved kirschtania and caenis i did cry. I could say more on them but itd be fairly incoherent especially when im this tired. Just know that i really really like them

Do all of them for Merlin /hj
(If you don't wanna, I can pick specific ones out)
abidienfjdn i actually did end up doing them all bc i do wanna talk about merlin so bad. he’s been living in my brain rent free, i have so many thoughts!
also i hope you’ve had a good day adrian!! and remember to take care! these are under the cut!
🍪 Cookie - What does your f/o call you?
i just know merlin’s a sucker for pet names, especially the really cheesy/cutesy ones. the more sugary sweet they are the better because a part of him loves the reactions he gets. but! he’d have some that are pretty consistent, particularly starting with “my” like my darling, my sweetheart, because they always get sasha to blush.
♣️ Clover - How would your f/o celebrate your birthday? How would you celebrate theirs?
partially loves and gets a bit of an crisis over birthdays in general. human life is so short, but also it’s a day to celebrate moving forward with life and having another wonderful year!
i think on sasha’s (my s/i’s) birthday, he’d prefer to do something private. cuddles in bed, a nice restaurant date and romantic stroll. it’s simple and sweet, but also personable. it gives them time to connect out of busy chaldea life.
on his birthday, i think sasha would prefer to treat him to lots of fun memories and experiences. after all, merlin’s only out of avalon for so long, he might as well enjoy what he’s been seeing in person! but, at the end of the day, being able to come together is merlin’s favorite part.
🖋 Pen - Would your f/o ever give you creative gifts? What creative form would they use? (E.g music, art, writing)
seeing as merlin’s an idol on his down time, i feel that he probably has a few creative talents! his favorite gift he’s gave is the plush fou, because sewing is so much time. and hey, he has quite the knack for it too!
🎤 Sing - Can your f/o sing? Is it a hobby or job? How often do they sing? (Bonus: do they have actual songs? What do you think of them?)
as much as i’d like to say no, i know that mage had pipes on him. he does so as a virtual idol, but also likes to sing little melodies when he and sasha are going to bed. that’s partially bc my dreams where he’s been there have featured on occasion him singing me lullabies >.>
also! he does sing in the stage play, and his va has done a few songs and covers. i’ve found there’s a few romantic songs. as of writing this i am so not well about this guy.
🎵 Music - Excluding any official songs of theirs, do any songs remind you of (you and) your f/o?
for some reason? i’m drawn to say paradise by george ezra. i don’t know why, but it makes me think of how merlin sees sasha as he’s beginning to develop feelings.
✝️ Lord - Are you or your f/o religious? What traditions would you share with each other?
i don’t think either sasha or merlin are particularly religious, but do enjoy sharing little bits about their own cultures with one another. i think mostly sasha loves to share family recipes!
🖤 Phantom - Is your f/o superstitious? Are they interested much in the paranormal or the occult?
considering merlin is the paranormal, you could say he’s interested! but mostly, he does love watching humans.
🌸 Blossom - Who fell in love first? How long did it take for each of you to realise your feelings?
oh merlin fell first! and while sasha is very bad at hiding their feelings and merlin likes to playfully tease, merlin was definitely in denial like sasha was.
sasha doesn’t really realize their feelings (they’re in denial) until merlin refers to himself as they’re partner seriously while on a mission with their master (they’re disguising as a couple it’s totally necessary$ and they internally lose it.
merlin on the other hand, while falling first, is deep in denial. he doesn’t know what love is, he can’t fall in love, he’s an incubus! but as he slowly grows closer and closer to sasha something stirs in him and it’s totally amusement, silly! and then he almost loses sasha and he’s like oh. oh. oh no.
🎰 Thrills - How risky is your f/o? Do they keep things safe or do they gamble their odds at whatever they feel like?
100% likes risk, but also he has foresight so is it really a risk? but in all honesty, merlin doesn’t care much for risking anyone or anything, not that he lets people know that.
🍳 Hungry - What is your f/o's favourite food? Favourite drink?
canonically merlin may not have a favorite food or drink but he does to me!!
emotion wise, his guilty please is happier emotions and memories, though he hates taking them away from people. he does enjoy more bitter flavors as well, as he believes there should be a balance to these sorts of things.
as for regular human food, he’s fond of sweets, particularly with slight bitter notes like dark chocolate and matcha based desserts. his favorite meals happen to be anything that can be eaten as a group.
as for drinks, he’s fond of the tea he and artoria would have together in camelot. he’s found though that he does enjoy a cocktail or two, especially with fun names! and bright colors!
🪽 Angel - How nice is your f/o to others? Are they different around you or act just the same?
he’s struck a balance between playful and polite with people, but also loves to tease those with great reactions, so he comes off as rather mean to people who he’s not close to.
and while he does love to tease those he’s close to like sasha and artoria, he does know there’s a line and respects it. he also is kinder in the sense that he tries to check in with people in his own way, but he’s not always sure if he should interfere, as occasionally he feels he knows too much about people. he’s gotten great at subtle guiding!
and merlin will be the first to admit he turns up the flirt factor with sasha. how can he not when ae always blush at him?
🕸 Widow - Does your f/o like spiders?
wouldn’t say merlin is fond of them, but he doesn’t dislike them, so to speak. pretty neutral, tbh.
🩸 Ouch - How would your f/o react to seeing you hurt (either mild or major)?
if it’s a small scrape, such as sasha falling and getting a scrape he’d probably tease them a bit, but i do think serious injuries would set off a protective bone in merlin. especially if he’s there fighting by their side.
😍 Obsessed - How obsessed is your f/o about you? What lengths would they go for you?
a normal amount of obsessed, i think? he’s navigating his more human emotions still and he knows he wants to stay by sasha’s side forever. maybe he’s looking for a way to sneak them into avalon with if they ever wanted to. but like, if they want a normal human life, he’d never deny them of that.
💔 Mine - How jealous is your f/o?
oooo merlin is a pouty jealous person. he doesn’t get so too often as he knows sasha loves him! but, he doesn’t like it that people would ignore that they say they’re taken. or if they don’t spend enough time with him (this a lot). he’s a needy man, but don’t you love him for it? 🥺
💋 Kiss - How would your f/o react if you gave them a random unexpected kiss?
you know he’s smug, i just know it. would completely ask for more too. but underneath it all he’s so giddy, he loves random affection like this so much! but be aware that sasha will be trapped by him just flopping on top of them asking for more kisses.
🔪 Dangerous - How skilled is your f/o in combat or murder?
in combat yes, but he will not let anyone know. after all he’s just a fragile guy! you wouldn’t put him on the front lines with his b strength right?
🐝 Buzz - Do any of your f/os know each other? (In canon or just a hc/au?)
yes!! tristan and merlin come from the same source, and of course there is fgo. i actually initially thought about using isolde to ship with merlin, but you know maybe there’s enough wife problems within the knights of the round.
⭐️ Star - Gush about your f/o! Or a s/i! Whatever you want!
both? both is good!
first i wanna say to me merlin is genderfluid! so i do end up using both he/she pronouns for her. and also demiro. but more gushy i do love merlin’s playfulness. it brightens things up and also can be really revealing about her. and also him in my dreams. ugh he’s so sweet?? and i’ve had so many?? mainly they’re cuddle sessions, and tbh merlin would be so good to cuddle with.
as for my si for him, their name is sasha! they’re a mage from the mage’s association that carries aer family’s curse so they look quite beastly (horns, claws, fangs, scales, the works so to speak). and funnily enough, ae’s fused with gabrielle-suzanne de villeneuve, who’s considered the first person to write down the beauty and the beast fairy tale. so ae’s a demiservant. and she sorta helps sasha out with self love!
