Character Names
As always thank you @toribookworm22 for the tag. Sorry it took me a bit to get to it!
Tag of my own - @asterhaze @stanrendipity @lola-theshowgrl @tisiphonewolfe only do if you feel like it!
Rules: give us your characters' names and definitions and vote whether or not they fit the meaning.
I'll be going over a handful of the Characters that appear in Rituals and Red Tape (and I'll just be honest I'm plugging these into google and taking the big blurb result)
Alex
Alex is a gender-neutral name of Greek origin meaning "defender of humankind." It is derived from the ancient Greek name Alexandros which comes from the Greek alexein meaning "to defend" or "to protect" and aner translating to "man or warrior."
Ya know I had picked this name originally because I wanted something gender neutral to begin with. Given their role as an Auditor I'd actually say this works pretty well 7/10 coincidence
Andrea
In Greek, the name Andrea is a feminine form of Andrew, which means “warrior” or “protector.” In Latin, the name Andrea means “courageous” or “brave.” It was a common name among early Christians, as Andrew was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.
By virtue of also being an Auditor it kinda fits, but her personality (while yes brave and whatnot) I'd say is more based in confidence and a touch of impulsiveness. 5/10 she is a mess and I love her.
Dave
From the Hebrew Dawid meaning "beloved" or "favourite". Originally used in the Bible, where David was the name of a King of Israel. St. David is the patron saint of Wales.
Tee hee this one I kinda saw coming. Nah. I guess you could maybe spin this favourite as close because he has hailed as the head of The Board for countless cycles, but that's more due to happenstance and reasoning beyond our comprehension. 3/10 he is a stinky bastard.
Peter
The name Peter means Stone (or Stone Man as Spiros Zodhiates proposes) and symbolizes instability. Two Hebrew names that express the same difference are Zur, meaning rock, and Zeror, meaning pebble
So this one I did take from one of the drop down options. The big blurb only talked about how it meant stone. Being they are a fresh Dreamer and are meant to act as a normalcy barometer against the more jaded and desensitized Alex; sure. I won't weight this one to strongly because I chose a biased option. 4/10 this man will piss his pants.
Frank
Meaning:Free. To be frank is to feel free to express yourself and be upfront in life. The name Frank is of German origin and means "free," and is a diminutive of Francis and Franklin.
Another one where I was purposeful in choosing the name for the character rather than going off a vibe. He speaks in one word sentences that you need to do some mental gymnastics to understand the true meaning behind. Also I learned this name can also mean to be from France...soooo. 9/10 I chose this oui oui.
Greg
Stemming from the Greek name Grēgórios and later the Latin Gregorius, Greg means "watchful" or "vigilant." Most fittingly, the name finds close proximity to the Latin noun grex, and its stem greg, meaning "flock." Such ties grant Greg the stature of a shepherd, faithfully watching over their flock
Okay this one was a shock actually. He is the head Chaperone for the Onboarding department. These are the Dreamers that are tasked with bringing the fresh Dreamers into the society. So um, yeah I guess way to go me for the vibe check. 8/10 this tall lanky man is going to watch over you.
Ishmael
Ishmael is a boy's name of Hebrew origin, meaning “God will hear.” Gifting baby this biblical title is a lovely way to honor one's faith and remind baby of their religious roots. In the Old Testament, Ishmael is the name of Abraham's firstborn son and is also considered the traditional ancestor of the Arab people.
Aight so, I knew this one would be a dud. This dude is the surfer-bro head of the DNR and I wholeheartedly chose the name because of Moby Dick. Despite the name his approach and reverence of the wildlife is more akin to Steve Irwin than the whale hungry fisherman. I thought it was a funny juxtaposition. 1/10 just nah.

i watched all of season 1 of Mystery Inc and how it became the staple of best scooby thing is beyond me.. the characters are either, boring, (daphe
Fred/ Velma were rude to marcie (hotdog water is something bullies would do not the scoob gang)
or just have one trait. Daphne: Fred
Fred :Traps with 5 percent of love for daphne.. its a wonder they dated at all to me.. it felt kind of forced after he kept mentioning how he seems to love the gaang all equally moreso / and how amazing their friendship is/ he just gave off aro vibes to me
Shaggy/Scooby; Well they def exist and are more tollerable than Velma.
Velma: Sucks so hard that im not gonna ship her x marcie even if i find it asthetically pleasing... cause screw velma. I despise this velma
Marcie nearly killed Shaggy/Scooby as well by dropping em to their almost death at the carnival twice... and now they just let her into their group/ Velma befriends her???? that doesnt make any sense to me.. season 2 starts and their friends now? because her other friends left/got sent away? Okay whatever.. her design is cute .. so theres that .. plus i have zeror attachment to daphne.
(Tho i heard horrible spoilers about marcie so.. . thats great ..)
the main positive is really just the background/design of the monsters for me.

Saul Chosen as King
1 ¶ Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a son of Jemini, {Benjamin} a mighty man of power.
2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a handsome young man. Among the sons of Israel there was not a nicer person than he; from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
3 ¶ And the she asses of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul, his son, Take now one of the slaves with thee, and arise, go seek the asses.
4 And he passed through Mount Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shalim, and they were not there, and he passed through the land of Jemini, {or of Benjamin} but they did not find them.
5 And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses and take thought for us.
6 And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass; now let us go there; peradventure he can show us our way that we should go.
7 Then Saul replied unto his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and we have nothing to present unto the man of God. What do we have?
8 And the servant answered Saul again and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; this will I give to the man of God to tell us our way.

12 And they answered them and said, He is; behold, he is before you; make haste now, for he came today to the city, for there is a sacrifice of the people today in the high place.
13 As soon as you are come into the city, ye shall straightway find him before he goes up to the high place to eat, for the people will not eat until he comes because he must bless the sacrifice, and afterwards those that are invited eat. Now therefore go up, for about this time ye shall find him.

20 And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, take no care for them, for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee and on all thy father’s house?
21 And Saul answered and said, Peradventure am I not of Jemini, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And is my family not the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why, therefore, dost thou speak so to me?
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the banquet chamber and made them sit at the head among those that were invited, which were about thirty persons.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it aside.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder and that which was upon it and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which was reserved! Set it before thee and eat because for this time it has been kept for thee, since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul ate with Samuel that day.
25 And when they were come down from the high place into the city, he spoke with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 And they arose early about dawn, and Samuel called Saul, who was on the top of the house, saying, Rise up that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
27 And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us (and he passed on), but stand thou still a while that I may declare thee the word of God.

Inilah orang yang disebut-sebut Tuhan!
Inilah Saul yang akan memegang tampuk pemerintahan atas umat-Nya.
Bacaan dari Kitab Pertama Samuel:
Ada seorang dari daerah Benyamin,
namanya Kisy bin Abiel, bin Zeror, bin Bekhorat, bin Afiah.
Ia seorang suku Benyamin, seorang yang berada.
Orang ini ada anaknya laki-laki, namanya Saul,
seorang muda yang elok rupanya;
tidak ada seorang pun dari antara orang Israel yang lebih elok dari padanya:
ia lebih tinggi dari pada setiap orang sebangsanya dari bahu ke atas.
Kisy, ayah Saul itu, kehilangan keledai-keledai betinanya.
Sebab itu berkatalah Kisy kepada Saul, anaknya,
"Ambillah salah seorang bujang,
bersiaplah dan pergilah mencari keledai-keledai itu."
Lalu mereka menjelajah pegunungan Efraim;

Ketika Samuel melihat Saul, yang datang minta petunjuk,

"Samuel, Inilah orang yang Kusebutkan kepadamu itu;
inilah orang yang akan memegang tampuk pemerintahan atas umat-Ku."
Sementara itu
Saul datang mendekati Samuel di tengah pintu gerbang
dan berkata, "Maaf, di mana rumah pelihat itu?"
Jawab Samuel kepada Saul, katanya, "Akulah pelihat itu.
Naiklah mendahului aku ke bukit.
Hari ini kamu akan makan bersama-sama dengan daku;
besok pagi aku membiarkan engkau pergi
dan kemudian aku akan memberitahukan kepadamu
segala sesuatu yang ada dalam hatimu."
Maka keesokan harinya
Samuel mengambil buli-buli berisi minyak,
dituangnyalah ke atas kepala Saul,
diciumnyalah dia sambil berkata,
"Sungguh, Tuhan telah mengurapi engkau menjadi raja atas umat-Nya Israel.
Engkau akan memegang tampuk pemerintahan atas umat Tuhan,
dan engkau akan menyelamatkannya
dari tangan musuh-musuh di sekitarnya."
Demikianlah sabda Tuhan.

Reading 1
1 SM 9:1-4, 17-19; 10:1
There was a stalwart man from Benjamin named Kish,
who was the son of Abiel, son of Zeror,
son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjaminite.
He had a son named Saul, who was a handsome young man.
There was no other child of Israel more handsome than Saul;
he stood head and shoulders above the people.
Now the asses of Saul’s father, Kish, had wandered off.
Kish said to his son Saul, “Take one of the servants with you
and go out and hunt for the asses.”
Accordingly they went through the hill country of Ephraim,
and through the land of Shalishah.
Not finding them there,
they continued through the land of Shaalim without success.
They also went through the land of Benjamin,
but they failed to find the animals.
When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD assured him,
“This is the man of whom I told you; he is to govern my people.”
Saul met Samuel in the gateway and said,
“Please tell me where the seer lives.”
Samuel answered Saul: “I am the seer.
Go up ahead of me to the high place and eat with me today.
In the morning, before dismissing you,
I will tell you whatever you wish.”
Then, from a flask he had with him, Samuel poured oil on Saul’s head;
he also kissed him, saying:
“The LORD anoints you commander over his heritage.
You are to govern the LORD’s people Israel,
and to save them from the grasp of their enemies roundabout.
“This will be the sign for you
that the LORD has anointed you commander over his heritage.”

The Lord chooses Saul as king; Samuel anoints him.
Among the men of Benjamin there was a man named Kish son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah; a Benjaminite and a man of rank. He had a son named Saul, a handsome man in the prime of life. Of all the Israelites there was no one more handsome than he; he stood head and shoulders taller than the rest of the people. Now some of the she-donkeys of Saul’s father Kish had strayed, so Kish said to Saul, ‘My son, take one of the servants with you and be off; go and look for the she-donkeys.’ They passed through the highlands of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but did not find them; they passed through the land of Shaalim, they were not there; they passed through the land of Benjamin, but did not find them.

and now several antichrists have already appeared;
we know from this that these are the last days.
Those rivals of Christ came out of our own number, but they had never really belonged;
if they had belonged, they would have stayed with us;
but they left us, to prove that not one of them
ever belonged to us.
But you have been anointed by the Holy One,
and have all received the knowledge.
It is not because you do not know the truth that I am writing to you
but rather because you know it already
and know that no lie can come from the truth.
The man who denies that Jesus is the Christ –
he is the liar,
he is Antichrist;
and he is denying the Father as well as the Son,
because no one who has the Father can deny the Son,
and to acknowledge the Son is to have the Father as well.
Keep alive in yourselves what you were taught in the beginning:
as long as what you were taught in the beginning is alive in you,
you will live in the Son
and in the Father;
and what is promised to you by his own promise
is eternal life.

Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Prompted by the Spirit Simeon came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:
‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace,
just as you promised;
because my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared for all the nations to see,
a light to enlighten the pagans
and the glory of your people Israel.’
As the child’s father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected – and a sword will pierce your own soul too – so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’

Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere.
Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, ‘My child, why have, you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’
‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied. ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant.
He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority.
His mother stored up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and men.

My hour has not come yet.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ There were six stone water jars standing there, meant for the ablutions that are customary among the Jews: each could hold twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’, and they filled them to the brim. ‘Draw some out now’ he told them ‘and take it to the steward.’ They did this; the steward tasted the water, and it had turned into wine. Having no idea where it came from – only the servants who had drawn the water knew – the steward called the bridegroom and said, ‘People generally serve the best wine first, and keep the cheaper sort till the guests have had plenty to drink; but you have kept the best wine till now.’
This was the first of the signs given by Jesus: it was given at Cana in Galilee. He let his glory be seen, and his disciples believed in him.

2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
3 And the asses of Kish Saul's father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, Take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses.
4 And he passed through mount Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and he passed through the land of the Benjamites, but they found them not.
5 And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us.
6 And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.
7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?
8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way.

10 Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.

12 And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place:
13 As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him.
14 And they went up into the city: and when they were come into the city, behold, Samuel came out against them, for to go up to the high place.
15 Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,
16 To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
17 And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people.
18 Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the seer's house is.
19 And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me to day, and to morrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
20 And as for thine asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy mind on them; for they are found. And on whom is all the desire of Israel? Is it not on thee, and on all thy father's house?
21 And Saul answered and said, Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirty persons.
23 And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.
24 And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
25 And when they were come down from the high place into the city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house.
26 And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad.
27 And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on), but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.
