Ironically, the characters created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, (Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face, Clayface, Catwoman), are actually poorly written when under the inspiration of their original creators. (To me.)
There’s something unfulfilled about them in their portrayal in the original stuff. They’re entirely confined to the paper that they’re printed on. There’s nothing beyond that. I need to find the real ones. Guh.

I need to return to this!!! It’s been almost a year and people keep following this blog (I think).
I was hoping to catalogue the versions and alterations made to the dc comics universe(s).
But that’s hard as hell to do, and might take a while. And I don’t know where to start. But it would help with figuring out a lot of things about… a lot of things.
Might start with Neil Gaiman’s interpretations, as he tends to be a good starting point for any kind of thing like that, to me. Plus, he was responsible for the reimagination of Pamela Isley. I respect him immeasurably for that.

you don't get it. i miss batman. except not that batman, and not that guy's batman, and not that guy's batman, but this highly specific iteration of batman that coalesces after you're hundreds of batman comics deep and you figure out that everyone in your entire life has lied to you about batman this entire time. i miss that specific batman

Agreed! He’s a very laid-back, dryly silly sort of guy, I think.
Think Neil Gaiman, if he spoke like a posh, west-European butler.
Why has no one ever attempted to properly incorporate social media and things into fictional worlds- (that I’ve heard of)
It adds a whole new layer of dimensionality to the world. Y’all are on it 24/7, who’s to say that the people in the world you’re writing about don’t do exactly the same thing?
Anyway, the dark au citizens who are able to afford phones and Internet have twitter and tumblr and everything.
The Joker tries to take over twitter.
Alfred uses tumblr. (It just seems like it’d be his style).
Jervis also uses tumblr, as well as Instagram.
Bruce Wayne actually HAS to be taught how to use all the popular social media apps, because otherwise he can’t promote his business properly or get updates on trends and things. He’s LITERALLY THE OWNER OF WAYNE ENTERPRISES, he NEEDS TO KNOW THIS STUFF. Plus, it’s gotta be a great way to keep track of criminal activity around the city.
Plus it would be really funny to see the shit people post making fun of Batman for getting himself stuck in the traps the rogues make for him. The Batman villains would be so fucking popular online fr-

That moment when you center pretty much every singe plot line around one guy
Which ends up making it so that pretty much everything ends up relating back to that one guy no matter what
And thus everything except for him and his tragic backstory is so flexible that the entire universe ends up being a broken, scattered mess of narratives that don’t make sense or fit together at all
Which is fine for most people, but a nightmare for me to work with. lmfao
So I’m gonna take the weight off of this load-bearing, bat-eared coconut.
I’m not throwing him in the trash, he’s still a person who exists.
But he’s not the storyteller.
The plot should not center on HIM.
I don’t know how to explain what I mean: I actually wrote and deleted and rewrote and deleted some paragraphs over and over again just a few moments ago cause it’s really hard to put what I’m thinking into words.
There’s just-
There should be more to the world than just what the Batman knows about. Than just the Batman. Why is he the only part of the dc universe that’s slightly consistent.
Jeez I really don’t know how to explain this, huh- lol-

Alice became a supervillain
(Jervis’s sister)
I apologize for the lack of an explanation- I don’t feel like I should reveal any more than that about her.
The rest will be a surprise :)
((Disclaimer: The last two statements are bullshit I have no idea what kind of supervillain she is and my brain is fried Lmfao))

Little fun fact that I’m sure you’re all aware of by now:
Most of my headcanons and ideas for things about characters have to do with “mundane” things about them.
Like… just everyday, ordinary bits of info that people would normally just kinda take for granted.
For example: Jervis loves tea, but he feels like coffee’s pretty good, too.
Or: Harley Quinn isn’t disorganized or messy. She had a friggin color-coded filing system in her office. Helped keep her busy whenever she was bored.
Why?
Cause sticking to one aspect of them and beating it into the ground just… feels wrong.
That’s a cardboard cut-out of a guy, not an actual person.
Jervis Tetch is not “wonderland guy with tea cups and hats”. He’s Jervis Tetch. He desperately wants a normal life, and he hates that he’s become just “the mad hatter” to everyone. There’s more to him than just “hee hoo he likes Alice in wonderland”- in fact, he’s actually started to feel really conflicted about loving the stories, cause he thinks it’s making everyone see him as a weirdo and a freak. It feels like it’s caused more harm than good. He’s started seeing it as something he should hate about himself instead of something that’s nice. Something that people aren’t going to make fun of him for or tease him about. Something he doesn’t need to feel self-conscious about all the time.
Oh crap he’s literally me wait
