Hm... since this is modern times, I found it quite odd that the MC randomly knows how to use a sword. Given my MC's profession, knowing how to use a weapon makes sense, but it wouldn't be a sword... it would be a gun or a nightstick. And it was a write in profession anyway (police officer) so the game probably wouldn't know that he could use one at all.

Oh that’s true, a sword will only fit certain MCs.

After the next update, I will revisit the previous chapters and see how to improve it based on your feedback. Thanks!

Hello Patrons!

I have released a small update to the latest chapter, which concludes the night shift.

For fans of Morgan/a, you will get the opportunity to uncover some of their witchy secrets 🧙‍♀️

This update also sets the stage for the last part of Chapter 4, which will be released by the end of April (next week hopefully): Your shopping trip to the Bazzar of Dis in Hell, accompanied by Yaga, the Raven, Shelly, and Peisinoe!

In chapter 3 I went to talk to Morgan before talking to Hastur. However, when discussing the hex, my character was able to say that Hastur didn't remember the entity from the previous night. (I think this is a minor continuity error).

So i stumbled onto the game and I'm loving it!!! And then i started stalking your account lol. I have a few questions, if you won't mind answering?

What are "Ro's?" From context clues I got that they are the other characters, but is that from somewhere?? A reference, a D&D lingo perhaps? (I know the general premise of D&D, but I haven't ever played it, never got the right people nor the time)

Also, is there like a demo version and a full version or sm? I used the link on your pinned post, and I finished chapter 4. That's the latest update, right?? i love the game so much i don't want to miss out on it 😭

Another thing, is there be an option to change how you feel about an Ro later on in the coming updates? On a related note, how to increase the different skills?

Hi there, thank you! I'm so happy you enjoy TBOTA ❤️ You can ask anything, and I’ll gladly answer!

RO’s is just an acronym for Romance Options, so all the characters you can romance in the game.

Currently, the game is in work in progress stage, so there’s only the demo which I update regularly. So yeah you got all available content. But the next update be released this weekend!

You will be able to end romances in the future—or you might get dumped yourself, lol. Actually, in the current version, you can get dumped by Morgan/a.

I love all manners of rambles and questions! Feel free to send them to me anytime, and enjoy your stay in the Abyss :)

Newcomer to your interactive story (and the genre as a whole tbh, a bit of a boomer so it's my first time experiencing it.) and gotta say, I absolutely love it!

I've only finished 2 chapters but goddamn! I love Raven sm lol and how interesting all the other characters are too; you can tell how excellent of a storyteller you must be! I'm genuinely blown away by everything - down to the vocab even!

Curious; i wanted to know any BTS tea you could spill about TBOTA, like what was the inspiration behind the premise, the characters...etc. did you model anyone after people you know? and oh, the humor is just immaculate, any shows/comedians that inspire that or are you naturally that funny lol? (these are the questions that pop into my mind now but feel free to spill more deets, I'd love to pick your brain!)

Welcome to interactive fiction! I highly recommend checking out Choice of Games, a platform for similar interactive stories. The forums are also chock-full of fantastic works in progress that you should definitely take a look at!

I actually combined two unfinished stories of mine from 10 years ago to create TBOTA. One focused on Death, while the other provided most of the lore I use for this game. I don't want to give away too much about the plot, but after publishing TBOTA, I plan to work on the other story, which will be called "Awakening: Tehomot."

Talking about humor, I was an unathletic nerdy gay kid, so being funny was an important trait to have, lol. I love writing banter, and much of my inspiration came from dialogue in RPGs like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. In general, I prefer comedies that mix tragedy (it's the best remedy, after all) or even the horror genre (What We Do in the Shadows!)

I guess I just love comedy as a coping mechanism lol!

Regarding other inspirations, my long-term memory is SO BAD, so I linked an ask from a while ago where I answered a similar question. (It took me about two hours to remember all of this stuff, lol)

I will add that I grew up watching Hayao Miyazaki's films, which inspired the characters and story in this game and shaped the way I create and write.

Hello! If we see typos/something that needs an edit, how do we send it to you? Would you prefer it through an ask or a DM?

I'm going through chapter 3 right now and I'm enjoying it a lot. Shelley and He Without Name are my definite favourites so far but I like that Death is an awkward dork around humans. They're super sweet.

One thing that stuck out to me though - the conversation with Yaga about the pragmatism of allowing Morgan/a to stay was so interesting, but nothing came of it! I was expecting something about setting clear terms around Morgan/A's stay, but we seemingly just let her stay without alluding to that at all. Idk if this gets follow-up later but an early choice around that would be really cool to have I think!

Anyway thanks for posting and I'm looking forward to catching up to the latest bits :)

I've had such a bad readers block for half a year as I wasn't even in the end of the demo before the new update. But I will get there eventually It might just take a while. My mental health is literally just in the deep end. But I like hastur and death from what I've read so far. They have really terry Pratchett character vibes to them

As for depression, Peggy Lee said it the best: If that’s all there is, then let’s keep dancing.

Sharing life's burdens with someone(s) makes it worth the hassle. Hope you know you are never alone, and let them bring some light in.

I think that’s one of the main themes of TBOTA: There’s always light, even in the Abyss, and heaven can be other people.
