I've seen the word "cringe" twice in the last ten minutes in relation to interacting with stuff online, specifically fandom. I also heard it when my Gen-Z cousin stayed with me for a week a while ago.

We need to ban this word.

Obviously I don't mean in the literal sense, but in the connotations that it has. Maybe this idea of things being cringe is a symptom of being chronically online, but we seriously need to get. the. fuck. over. ourselves.

So someone you don't know and have no emotional connection with decided your fleeting interaction was embarrassing? For whom???? Them? People who are actually worthy of your time will support you in your interests and passions, not deride them. The second anyone intentionally belittles your joy, they need to get in the fucking bin.

Having interests and passions is NOT cringe. Finding joy in silly things is NOT cringe. Making content and crafting as a hobby is NOT cringe.

You know what is though? Gatekeeping other people's happiness and joy.

As someone who is only 30, I sometimes despair of the Internet generations. We really need to go and touch some fucking grass occasionally.
