I sat on the floor. Head bent and bowed. waiting for absolution, the final thought that would lead me to the end of my story. A simple utensil used daily, handled meticulously, and all I could think was “my vein is right there...” The pan-flash fear was enough - enough to bring focus on breathing, on escaping and leaving behind a moment’s thought, a life’s end, something I could never take back. The knife fell, I turned and walked calmly to the bathroom. I turned on the light. I called my husband. And my new existence began. With so much free time to think, there are good and bad items that come up. One thing outpatient taught me was to see the logic and reason in things while telling yourself it’s okay to feel. Something can happen for a reason (maybe not some God-given advice) but because shit happens. We can be upset, hurt, in grief and pain, but we can also hold on to the data, the intellect, the information. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. There is a movie on @netflix called @tothebonemovie and it really had an impact on me. It’s about eating disorders (I do not have one but I am in no way ever satisfied with my body) and recovery. One scene, in particular, was potent. And the song playing during that moment was “Water” by @jackgarratt - and this song touches me to my soul.
