그런 존재였겠지, 어디에도 속하지 않으면서 잠시 다녀가는 관계.

책임지지 않는 감정이면서 돌아보고 싶은 사람,

좋은 것 뿐인 날들이라 힘든게 뭔지 몰랐어.

그러다 갑자기 돌아보니 끝없는 현실이 쏟아져들어왔어.

현실에서 도망쳐서 꿈같은 날을 지내고나면 돌아가야할 길들이 너무 아득해서 두려웠어.

우리는 서로에게 휴양, 휴식, 도피 그 어떤 것도 아닌 무엇인가였겠지만,

그럼에도 나는 너를 찾고 그리워하고, 또 생각해내다가 이내 지우고 그런 일�� 반복하는 것이다.

현실이 녹아내릴 때마다 너를 그리는 그런 생각을 하게 되는 것이다.

사실은 쉬는 것도 아닌 것도 아닌 아득한 날들임에도, 네게 자꾸 파고들고 싶어지는 것이다.

한국에 온 지 한 달 조금 넘었나. 하루는 동생이 내 일정을 물어본 적이 있다. 그래서 난 캘린더에 빼곡히 적혀있는 일정들 중 한 부분을 내밀었더니, '다래끼 나는 거 아니냐', '엄청 피곤하겠다' 등의 걱정을 내비쳤다. 물론 정말 피곤할때 나는 입병부터 나기 때문에 이번에도 혓바늘을 피할 순 없었지만 혓바늘이 대수랴. 내가 가고 싶은 곳을 가고, 만나고 싶은 사람을 만나고, 하고 싶은 말을 하고, 듣고 싶은 말을 듣고, 원하는 것을 먹고, 뛰고 싶은 곳을 뛰고, 틈만 나면 테니스도 깨알같이 치는데. 몸은 굉장히 바쁘고, 적지 않은 시간 동안 피곤함을 느끼고, 눕자마자 바로 잠든 하루하루가 많았는데 그것과는 다르게 마음은 점점 단단해진다. 내 몸의 쉼과 마음의 쉼이 같은 방향성을 가지고 있진 않은 셈. 게다가 감사하게도 거의 매주 원 없이 자연의 푸르름을 느낄 수 있어서 날씨와 환경에서 오는 만족감도 거의 최대치에 다다랐다. 물론 8월이 오면 또다시 많은 것들이 변하겠지만, 그때도 마음의 휴양을 느낄 수 있었으면 참 좋겠네.

8월 울릉도 여행 계획을 취소했다. 필요 이상으로 비싼 물가, 불편한 교통, 입출도 마저 마음대로 되지 않는 변화무쌍한 날씨. 그럼에도 거칠고 불편한 것에 더없이 익숙한 내게 울릉도는 제주도만큼 좋은 휴양지였는데, 힘들게 성수기 배편을 구해놓고 쉽게 취소했다. 이번에는 마음의 휴식보다도 몸의 휴식을 원했다. 남들 다 쉬는 곳에서 나도 같이 쉬는 느낌을 아직 잘 몰라서. 평상시의 삶에서 뚝 떼어낸 휴양의 순간이 평소와는 닮지 않은 시간이 되면 좋겠다는 마음으로 울릉도가 아닌 다른 휴양지를 찾아본다.

인천에서 동해까지, 동해에서 울릉도까지 다녀오는 비용과 시간과 노력을 생각하면 그돈씨 동남아가 된다.(여기에는 여태 가본 적 없는 새로운 곳을 가고 싶다는 마음과 최근 들어 더 저렴해진 항공권 가격도 영향을 끼쳤다.) 라오스, 태국, 베트남, 말레이시아. 봐야 할 것도, 가봐야 할 곳도 없는 온전한 휴양이 그곳에는 있을 것 같다. 목적이 없는 게 목적인 여행. 존재하지만 존재하지 않는 사람으로서 잠시 머물다 돌아오는 여행. 몸도 마음도 같이 휴식하는 온전한 휴양을 계획할 것이다.

하루종일 혼자 있어도 지겹지않고 혼자 있는 시간이 너무 좋았다.

근데 너와 함께 라면 휴양하는 것 처럼, 혼자 있는것만큼 아마 그보다 더 좋을거야. 내 마음을 뉘여 쉴수 있는 곳, 그 만큼 안전한 곳.

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! This post is going to be a bit different when it comes to the attractions of Walt Disney World for this particular one is an experience that you can now only experience through recordings. Horizons, a ride that opened up in Epcot in 1983, was created as a successor to the previously blogged about Carousel of Progress. While their central themes about human advancement and optimism for the future are the same, how those themes are/were told and their focus within those themes are definitely different. In the case of conveyance, Horizons used…well, a conveyer belt. Specifically, the Omni-Mover system which is also seen in rides like the Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth which allowed for a constant flow of riders. As for the subject, While CoP is a trip through several decades looking at the past and future of electric appliances, Horizons really focused on the concept of "the future" itself. The first half had several show scenes that showed how people in the past saw the future from the steampunk stylings of Jules Verne to the Jetsons-esque musings of the 1950's. The second half shows off several domiciles showcasing tech of tomorrow including one that's underwater and one in space. And speaking of tomorrow's tech, this attraction itself included a few future innovations of its own including an OMNIMAX Dome screen and multiple endings that are chosen collectively by the riders. From the footage I've seen, this was truly a spectacular attraction. I truly wish I could have seen it in person although if it was still around, it is extremely likely that it would have become severely dated (like the CoP, Tomorrowland, and Epcot itself at certain points). After all, the future is always changing but here's hoping that the future, just like Horizons and the future it saw, is wonderful as well. P.S. Horizons shut down in 1999 and in its place is Mission Space. For the record, I would take Horizons over Mission Space especially a Mission Space after Disney changed Green Team. I'm still salty about that. P.P.S. Fun fact: Another thing that Horizons and Carousel of Progress shared was a sponsor. Both were sponsored by General Electric in fact. P.P.P.S. Instead of a photo, I'm going to put a link to a video showing one person's ride on the attraction in question so you can "ride" it yourself. No interactive endings though. The future may be variable but the past is set in stone…unless someone invents time travel in the future but in that case, how would we know time travel has even occurred? Hmmm, should I invent time travel so I can ride defunct theme park attractions? Reckless or warranted? Anyway, here's the link.
