I'm so sick of people erasing Korrasami's bisexuality. The comments on this are so infuriating

So, I found this comment on a video where Neil Newbon, the voice actor of Astarion, confirms that Astarion is, in fact, pansexual. Not gay, but pansexual, and this person still feels the need to try to debunk it, then has the gall to be like "IT FEELS LIKE GAY ERASURE TO MAKE A CLEARLY GAY MAN BI/PAN FOR MARKETING PURPOSES" when they were literally spouting bi/pan erasure just because Astarion is theatrical and talks about men.
So... who's going to tell them that Astarion flirts with Shadowheart and Lae'zel, too? Who's going to tell them that relying on stereotypes is bad?
"It's so weird to watch Astarion romance videos with a female Tav". Well, it shouldn't. He's pansexual. If you can't stomach it, that's your problem.

"[Canon Bisexual Character] should have been [gay / lesbian] so they ended up with [Same Sex Character]!"
Wow. That's so interesting! Because there is literally no reason you can't ship that bisexual character with the same sex character as is. No one on earth is stopping you. Bisexual people are attracted to the same sex. You can ship away without changing a single thing about them!
But you keep insisting they should have been lesbian or gay so they could date the same sex and... gosh. It almost seems like... you just hate that they are bisexual!
Huh. Fascinating.

stop simping over women and pay attention to your husband. You clearly made your choice to be with a man and have his child rather than choose a woman. You bisexual women don’t get to exist in lesbian spaces when you lean towards men. Unless your husband lets to you step out on your marriage or lets you have delusional thoughts that any lesbian would want a woman knocked up by a man. You bisexual women who lean more towards men or are with men have no right to be in sapphic or lesbian spaces. And lady d is a lesbian so as if she would be with someone who let a man touch them let alone knock them up.
Oh, I'm sorry, did my husband tell you that I'm not giving him enough attention? Didn't think so.
Yes, I made a choice to be with him, because I fell in love with him. Because he's my best friend and my biggest supporter in everything I do (yes, he even supports my writing and fics and he tells me often how proud he is of me). I did not chose him because he's a man. Truthfully, his gender had absolutely nothing to do with why I married him. I just happened to fall in love with and marry a man, but that does NOT make me any less of a bisexual woman.
"You bisexual women..." and people question whether or not bi-erasure is a thing, meanwhile, this entire ask is such a great example of just that😒
"delusional thoughts that any lesbian would want a woman knocked up by a man." is truly offensive to not only every bi woman who has been with a man, but any woman who has. What about the lesbians that got pregnant by men?? Because this may come as a shock to you, but it does happen. It may not happen a lot or often, but it does. Does that mean that those women are "tainted" or "ruined" also??? No it fucking doesn't, you idiot.
It really makes me laugh when people try and use a fictional character to make a real life argument. You want to know why? BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT FUCKING REAL!!! So honestly, you have absolutely no idea if that's true or not because she's a fake fucking character from a video game. Are you also this upset at the fic writers who make her trans??? Or what about fic writers that make Alcina's partner trans??? Or are you just that much of biphobic person and this is the hill you're choosing to die on?? Either way, you're an actual bigot.
This post just SCREAMS biphobia and bi-erasure and it's fucking gross. You are so very obviously projecting your own issues and insecurities in this and honestly I would be embarrassed if I were you. Because not a single thing you said is true AT ALL or holds any merit.
Bisexual women who lean towards men or who are with men ABSOLUTELY do belong in those spaces. Just because a bisexual woman is married/with a man or leans towards men does not discredit or change their sexuality. No bi person automatically becomes straight if they date/marry the opposite gender or become gay/lesbian if they date/marry the same gender. It's called BIsexual. More than one gender. You do not get to invalidate every bi person with this shitty (and inherently wrong) opinion.
I know you wrote this trying to get a rise out of me, and congratulations because you succeeded. But I also know that people like you leave messages like this because they feel so broken and hurt and shitty that they want others to feel like that too. Unfortunately for you, I grew up in the era that birthed anonymous hate messages so you'll have to try harder next time. Not only that, but I am proud and confident in who I am and no pathetic anonymous (especially anonymous, you pussy) message is going to shake me.
I am a proud bisexual woman. I am proud to be married to my husband. I am proud that I will soon be the mother of a little boy who I will raise to be a much better person than you'll ever be. I am proud of what I've written and no, I will not stop.

feliciafancybottom replied to your post "angelsadvocate96 replied to your post "I am…"
I saw one earlier about Michael setting such a fine example for straight boys who go through a 'phase' of crushing on men. Yeahhh. Michael "No closet can hold me" Sheen… Michael "Happy Bi" Sheen… Michael "I set David on fire fairly regularly" Sheen… Michael Sheen who did one sex scene with Stephen Fry 27 years ago and hasn't stopped talking about riding him like a bucking bronco ever since. Is that the right Michael Sheen? If so, I think someone needs to tell him that he's the Sheriff of Straighttown now because I don't think he got the memo.
@feliciafancybottom Oh my God. "A phase"...yeah. That's always the other one, isn't it. Never mind that he had a crush on John Taylor when he was a teenager, and then a crush on Jude Law during Wilde when he was almost 30, and now an overwhelmingly obvious crush on David in his 50s. Nope, definitely just a phase.
I just...I genuinely do not understand how anyone thinks that the man who made that "closet" tweet, who christened himself "THE southern pansy" during Pride Month a few years ago, who said he considers one of his characters (Roland Blum) to be pansexual, and who has been telling us exactly who he is in every way possible for multiple years now...is completely straight. And to then have the gall to dismiss Michael's sexuality by further referring to it as a "phase" is the peak of bi erasure.
On one positive note, I will say that "Sheriff of Straighttown" made me snort, and I'm now picturing Michael and David roleplaying that with Michael as the "straight" Sheriff and David as the seductive "saloon girl" who leads him astray, so thank you for that. Haha. Good times...

i try hard to get back inside your arms alive
‘What is it, love?’ Alex places his laptop on the coffee table, Henry follows with his. If Alex had the emotional space in him right now, he’d appreciate the crap out of the way they’re sat side by side like the true sap he is. Henry is looking up at him expectantly, Alex has his hands on his hips. ‘We’re not a gay couple.’ Henry’s face scrunches up a little, Alex can see the processing in his eyes. Alex learns about bi-erasure.

ATTENTION OWL HOUSE FANS
Hunter dating a woman DOES NOT INVALIDATE HIS SEXUALITY.
Willow dating a man DOES NOT INVALIDATE HER SEXUALITY.
Hunter and Willow dating doesn't make them straight, just like Luz dating Amity doesn't make her lesbian. Hunter and Willow dating someone of the opposite gender doesn't change the fact that they like people of both genders. They are and will always be bi/pan no matter what. I will not stand for any bi/pan erasure or bi/panphobia.

Happy Pride! Let’s get some things str8
Trans people had nothing to do with the first pride 😁
Black Butch Cis lesbian Stormé DeLarverie started threw the first punch that started the stonewall rebellion. I say rebellion and not riot because that is how Stormé herself referred to it:
“It was a rebellion, it was an uprising, it was a civil rights disobedience – it wasn't no damn riot.”
Two cis gays and two cis lesbians, Craig Rodwell. Fred Sargeant, Ellen Broidy, and Linda Rhodes, proposed Pride. And then Cis bisexual Brenda Howard organized it. She is even called “the mother of Pride.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Furthermore Marsha P Johnson was NOT trans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Sylvia Rivera doesn’t like being called trans.

Erasing the accomplishments of gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals to fit your narrative is not cute or “woke.” It’s disrespectful and downright homophobic. All of you spreading misinformation should be ashamed.

Bisexual erasure. “When bisexuality is ignored, discriminated against, demonized, or rendered invisible by both the heterosexual world and the lesbian and gay communities. Often, the entire sexual orientation is branded as invalid, immoral, or irrelevant.”
what does it Look like?
- Assuming that two women together are lesbians, two men together are gay, or a man and a woman together are straight
- In most scientific studies, bisexuality is lumped in under “gay” or “lesbian” identities
- Many LGBTQ+ organizations don’t offer programming for bisexuals
- Questioning someone’s bisexuality if they haven’t had sex with both men and women.
what does it sound like?
- “I’m not interested in dating you because you’ve only dated men.” (Implying that I’m actually straight)
- “Bi women are more likely to leave you for a straight relationship.”
- “He’s only ever dated men, so he’s obviously gay.”
- “There’s no point in coming out as Bi if you never plan to leave your current relationship. You just want attention.”
what are the consequences?
- Bi erasure leads to bi phobia (discrimination, anger, blame, and hypersexualization).
- Bi people have *significantly* higher health risks than any other sexual identity group, including alarmingly high rates of depression and suicide.
- Bi women experience much higher rates of domestic violence.
- In the ‘80s and ‘90s bi people were blamed for spreading HIV. and we are still blamed for the spread of other STI’s.
what can I do?
- If you want to help, here’s what you can do:
- Check your own biases When someone says something shitty about bisexuality, correct them—even if a bisexual person isn’t present
- Ask your local LGBTQ+ orgs to offer bi/Pan programs
- Donate time or money to bi-specific organizations.
- Resources: Bisexual Resource Center (BiResource.org) Bi Plus Organizing US (@BiPlusOrgUS) Bi Pride UK (BiPrideUK.org) BiPhoria! (biphoria.org.uk) American Institute of Bisexuality (bisexuality.org) “Greedy: Notes from a Bisexual Who Wants Too Much” by Jen Winston “Look Both Ways: Bisexual Politics” by Jennifer Baumgardner “Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body” by Roxane Gay

Another thing i’ve noticed is that whenever a character is bisexual (specifically multimedia characters) people are always like “they’re only bisexual in this (insert media here)! In this other media we can call them whatever we want!”
Meanwhile when it comes to gay/lesbian characters it’s always “they’re gay/lesbian in ALL media!”
Bisexual characters never get the same treatment because they’re bisexual and people hate that about them. Yet we’re not supposed to get mad at the constant double standards and blatant biphobia? It’s bullshit.
