hold you (k.bakugou x reader x i.midoriya polyamorous)
inspiration: Freaks by Surf Curse
oneshot where fem!reader in a secret poly relationship with our fav boys gets kidnapped by the league to be used as leverage or smthn idk
reader has no specified quirk, reader does NOT attend UA, reader and bakygou/midoriya are childhood friends. this is purely self-indulgent bc i cant find any story like this anywhere on the internet and i need to feed my delusions
WARNINGS: sewerslidal reader, SH(mentioned), abusive parents(mentioned), eating disorder(mentioned), reader is homeless (briefly). THIS IS SOME DARK SHIT BUT IT ENDS GOOD I PROMISE
the day started as usual for midoriya and bakugou. wake up, bicker, eat a quick breakfast, bicker, walk to class, bicker, iida yells at them to stop bickering, and they bicker some more.
nothing seemed off for the first few hours. sure, neither of them had gotten the usual good morning text from [name], but she had some crazy midterms coming up. it wasn't all that unusual for her to stay up late and sleep in, forgetting to text them in her rush to get to class on time.
but when lunch rolled around, and still neither had received a text, they started to worry. their classmates had noted the lack of bickering in the second half of the day, and the constant checking-of-phones. their anxiety wafted across the suddenly cramped classroom like midnight-sensei's quirk. slow and suffocating. everyone felt it.
neither noy had noticed the worrisome glances their respective friends shot back and forth. they were too wrapped up in their thoughts. they spent all of class texting back and forth.
b.k: what if her parents found out about us?
i.m: she would have found a way to message us if that were the case.
i.m: i'm more worried she did something to herself. i think one of us should drop by her place after classes.
b.k: you go. i'm better at shutting these morons up anyways. i'll tell them you're visiting aunt inko or smthn.
i.m: thanks kacchan.
b.k: fuck off.
it was no secret to the boys that [name] was suicidal. nor that her parents were homophobic, abusive pricks. throughout their childhood, her parents made that very clear. she'd mention to them sometimes how both boys were cute, and the result was more often than not purple and blue marks poorly covered by the sleeves of her elementary school uniform.
by the time they'd reached middle school, those poorly hidden bruises turned into thin lines.
[name]'s parents didn't believe in medication, nor in therapy. for a long time, her only comfort was in the homes of bakugou katsuki and midoriya izuku.
after izuku was deemed quirkless, her parents wouldn't let her be around him anymore. so the trio spent most days hiding out at the bakugou's place. it was there that she confided in the boys about her parents. it was there that the three of them became an offical polyamorous relationship. it was there they had their first kiss.
inko and the bakugou parents were more parent-like than [name]'s parents ever were to her. she trusted them with everything.
after classes, the boys sat in the dorm common room with the rest of their class.
neither boys' constant glances at their phones were lost on their classmates. every flip of the screen and refresh of the page was caught by the other students.
every notification prompted a glance. that included the shared ding of both boys' phones.
[fn].[ln]: i need you.
[fn].[ln]: please.
i.m: where are you
[fn].[ln]: (location sent)
b.k: we're on our way.
neither boy stopped to grab a jacket or umbrella before shoving their shoes on and bolting out the door of the alliance building. neither boy said a word to their classmates, or even spared them a glance after the last text was sent.
as soon as they were out of the building, the class went to alert aizawa, who followed suit in a similar fashion to the boys.
he followed them through the heavy downpour as they turned off the main road, midoriya yelling out directions while bakugou dragged him along, both moving faster on foot than aizawa had seen them move before.
after the fifth turn, they stopped.
katsuki was quick to crouch down in front of you, and izuku sat against the wall behind you. you lifted your head from your knees, tears standing apart obviously from the rain on your face.
katsuki pulled you into a hug, and you sobbed harder.
"they kicked me out," you muttered into his shoulder, "they found out about us."
katsuki's face fell, and izuku's hardened.
"i'm calling sensei-"
"no, please, god izu, please don't."
izuku dropped the hand holding his phone, sighing. "[name], the first thing they'll do is look for you at one of our places. they'll realize what they did and decide to deal with it on their own. we all know they will."
katsuki pulled back, cupping your face in his hands and rubbing his thumb along your cheek. "[name], please. let him call aizawa. you'll be safer at the school than you will be at any of our places."
you sniffed, looking up into katsuki's eyes.
the fight had been ugly. your parents searched your room while you were at school the day before, and found letters between the three of you. from before you had phones. from before you learned how to be discreet.
your father was quick to lay hands on you as soon as you got home, yelling about what a slut and a whore you were. your mother just leaned against the door frame, arms crossed and head shaking in disappointment.
they kicked you out with nothing but the phone in your pocket and uniform on your body.
you sniffed, leaning into katsuki's touch. "...okay."
izuku picked his phone back up, and katsuki held you close. before the phone could ring even once, aizawa dropped from the roof above. "just what in the hell is going on here."
you tensed, and katsuki held you closer, whispering sweet words and comforting phrases into your ear as you shook from fear and the icy coldness of the rain around you.
izuku stood, making his way over to the teacher in front of him. he explained the situation the best he could, staying as calm as possible.
but his girlfriend was falling apart in front of him damnit, and there was nothing he could do out here.
"sensei, please. just for the night."
aizawa sighed. "she can stay for the night. i can't promise anything more than that, it's ultimately the principal's call."
"thank you, sensei."
izuku moved back over to where you and katsuki sat, and croushed down.
"hey, we have to get up [name]."
"i can't..."
"c'mon, [name]. you're so much stronger than you think you are. we just have to get to the school, it's only a couple blocks. then you can rest, alright?" katsuki stroked his hand through your hair, forehead resting against yours.
"i can't..."
izuku sighed, making eye contact with katsuki. the blonde nodded, standing and picking you up with him. he held you close to his chest, your knees folded around one arm and back resting against the other. you held on tight around his neck, sobbing into his shoulder.
izuku stood, turning to face aizawa. and you started the trek back to the school.
-
you sat on the couch an hour later, blanket around your shoulders and head resting on katsuki's shoulder. you were sound asleep, thank god.
the situation had been hard to explain to the boys' classmates. they didn't know either boy was even in a relationship, let alone with each other and another person.
eventually everyone went back up to their dorms, except for you and your boys. izuku and katsuki sat whispering to each other while you spelt in the blonde's arms.
they'd keep you safe and keep you away from your parents.
no matter what that meant or what it would cost them in the long run.

Menagerie part 8
PART SEVEN
Bakugo couldn’t believe it. Last night, his parents got a call from UA to come in early for a parent-teacher meeting to discuss his ‘behavior’. He scoffed. No doubt Deku came to them crying about him. But Katsuki didn’t have anything to worry about, he never did. None of the teachers cared about Deku anyway.
That was why he didn’t understand why his teacher was looking at him with disappointment and annoyance. Surely he could see that Katsuki was the strongest out of the whole class, that he deserved to be at UA more than any of those other shitty extras. This was infuriating.
“It has come to our attention that Bakugo has a record of bullying,”Aizawa-sensei stated, and Katsuki clenched his fists in indignation.
“I wouldn’t say bullying,”Mitsuki hedged,”Sure, he’s a little rough around the edges, but Katsuki wants to be a hero, there’s no way he’d hurt someone on purpose!”
Aizawa gave her a flat stare, before his eyes drifted over to Katsuki, and his blood ran cold. His teacher raised a brow, as if to ask Bakugo if he was going to tell his parents himself. “Tch. Whatever lies Deku’s been telling, it ain’t true,”Bakugo scoffed, but he could feel his palms getting sweatier with nerves.
“That’s funny,”Aizawa drawled, and Bakugo’s parents shared a look. “Because Midoriya hasn’t told me anything.”
Aizawa’s words left Bakugo confused, until he remembered the two extras in the hallway. The purple haired one and the scar-face. “Midoriya? You mean Izuku?” Mitsuki asked, shoulders slumping in relief. “They’ve been friends for ages, I’m sure this is just a misunderstanding,”She explained, and Aizawa turned his gaze to her.
“You think shoving Midoriya against a wall in an empty hallway and using your quirk to burn him is a misunderstanding?” The pro hero challenged, and Mitsuki paled.
Bakugo scoffed. “The nerd deserved it, he was looking down on me- He had a quirk this whole time! That bastard was hiding it from me,”Bakugo sneered, letting off some sparks in his hands. Aizawa eyed his fists carefully, and he resisted the urge to wipe his hands on his pants.
Katsuk resolutely kept his gaze away from his parents, knowing neither of them would be pleased with him. He knew they had a soft spot for Deku, they just didn’t understand. Everyone knew he was better than Deku, and now, now with that stupid nerd hiding his quirk from him! That was just too much.
“Katsuki..”Mitsuki gasped, and covered her mouth with a hand. Katsuki kept his glare on his teacher, the man who should be expelling Deku for hiding his quirk for so long, and cheating to get into UA. It was no wonder he hid his quirk, he had to use other people for it to work.
Aizawa cleared his throat to get the parent’s attention. “Normally, this is enough to expel him from the hero course,”He said, but put up a hand when all three made some noise of protest,”But because of this incident, I looked into his school records and found some.. Discrepancies.” Before anyone could say anything, Aizawa continued with,”So I requested to take a look at some security footage from Aldera Middle school, and found multiple cases of assault with a quirk, bullying, and suicide-baiting, all directed towards Midoriya or kids with ‘weaker’ quirks.”
After those words, Katsuki couldn’t take it,”So what? None of that is on my record- you can’t fucking expell me over this shit!”
“Shut it, brat,”Mitsuki barked, and her fists curled on the arms of her chair. She turned to Aizawa. “I was unaware that this was going on, but I promise you he’ll accept any consequences you see fit. I thought,”She paused wiping her eyes. “I thought he was just like me, you know? Loud and brash, but.. I never thought he’d stoop so low. Poor Izuku..”
“I’ve expelled students for less,”Aizawa commented dryly,”But there’s no way Bakugo will be allowed to continue at UA. If any of his previous tendencies were shown on his record, he wouldn’t have been accepted in the first place.”
After hearing those words, Katsuki slumped in defeat. He was being expelled. From UA. He was being expelled from the number one hero school in Japan, and he was never going to be able to become a hero, much less the number one. His nails dug into his palms. It was all Deku’s fault. He set me up, Katsuki thought. He ignored the voice in the back of his head, asking if Deku made him hurt him for all those years.
Katsuki tuned out the rest of the conversation. He wasn’t dumb, he knew when arguing was a lost cause, and looking into his teachers eyes… he knew there was no way of getting out of this. He didn’t hear the three of them talking about therapy, and how if he manages to pass evaluation in a year, they can talk about enrolling into a different hero program. He misses the disappointed, brokenhearted looks from his parents as they agree, taking a list of psychiatrists freshly printed from his teacher. His ex-teacher now.
Katsuki barely paid any attention as the meeting ended. He held in a scoff when his parents bowed to the pro hero, and was the first one out the door. Bakugo stomped out the school, ears burning in humiliation as he caught sight of a few students on his way out. One curly haired fucker seemed to watch him eerily, and he popped a few sparks in his palms. Soon after that display, his usually quiet father put a stern hand on his shoulder, giving him a look of dismay so strong it made him want to cry. He didn’t though, not when all the nosy extras were milling about the place.
Tuning out his mom as she lectured, eventually they reached the car, and Katsuki couldn’t help but take one last look at UA as they drove off. He felt nothing but hot, boiling rage that Deku was stealing his dream of becoming a hero in every way possible.
----------------------------
Rain paused in their exploration, wondering why Bakugo was at school so early with his parents. Ultimately though, he was on a mission, and glanced away almost as soon as Katsuki met their gaze. Not that the blonde could see his eyes from beneath his curly hair.
Everything was so new and exciting, and he wanted to explore more of the school. Rain wondered if the school was always so bright as he stuck his head through the door to a random classroom. He hummed, noting its emptiness, but taking a moment to breathe in the chalky, pencil smell from the room.
Then he was off, going down the hall until he came across another classroom. He peeked his head in, only to come face to face with his- mentor? Dad? Teacher? He frowned, settling on teacher. Looking over, he could see Aizawa-sensei watching him with an amused expression. “Present Mic told me you might stop by. How are you feeling?”
Rain hummed, stepping into the classroom and taking a seat in the front. It was Izuku’s desk. “Good. My name’s Rain.”
Aizawa dipped his head in acknowledgement. “Nice to meet you. What’s the notebook for?”
Rain glanced down at the notebook they’d placed onto the desk. “Feelings.” They settled on, offering the notebook to Aizawa after a moment of hesitation. Tension left their shoulders when his teacher set a juicebox down on the desk and gently picked up the notebook.
Delighted, Rain took the juicebox while Aizawa tried to stifle a smile at the notes taken in the book. There was everything from what the floor felt like to impromptu interviews with a random student passing through in the hall. Looking down at the kid, he saw a content smile as they tapped the desk and sipped at the apple juice.
“Do you want to participate in class, or do you think Izuku will be too tired?” Aizawa asked, placing the notebook back on the desk.
Tilting his head in thought, Rain pursed his lips before saying,”Can I join class? Izuku can take a nap during lunch.”
“Yeah, that’s fine kiddo,”Aizawa said, leaning on Bakugo’s old desk. “If you need a break, you or the kids can hang out in the lounge for a bit. I can write you a pass.”
“Thank you,”Rain smiled softly before going back to the juice box. Aizawa hid a smile in his scarf as he made his way back to his desk to continue grading papers.
The two of them sat in comfortable silence until the rest of Rain’s friends came back from the gym, dressed in their regular uniforms. Aizawa mourned the silence at Kaminari’s boisterous laughter.
-------------------
“Ugh,”Izuku grumbled, curling further into the sleeping bag as he lay scrunched on the couch in the teachers lounge. At one end of the couch, Todoroki dozed in a light nap with Izuku’s sleeping bagged feet in his lap.
“Hey, don’t complain,”Uraraka whispered so she didn’t wake Todoroki,”You chose to stay as Rain for that long, you get consequences.”
Izuku didn’t dignify that with a response, only curling up further to press his face into the soft couch cushions. Uraraka snorted. They’d been able to have lunch in the teachers lounge because Izuku and Todoroki almost passed out when they unfused. Well, Izuku more so than Todoroki, but still. Aizawa had all but shoved them into the lounge for a nap.
Uraraka, Shinsou and Denki came with their lunches and sat around the couch, quietly eating while the two slept. Todoroki seemed to wake up perfectly fine halfway through lunch, if not a bit sleepy, but didn’t move from the couch as Shinsou passed him his lunch. Much to their amusement, Todoroki ate his bento with most of Izuku’s legs in his lap.
Eventually, Izuku stirred from slumber towards the end of lunch with a loud stomach growl. Sleepily he reached a hand out of the bright yellow sleeping bag and made grabby hands at Todoroki. While the others were snickering, Todoroki picked up a roll of sushi with his chopsticks and placed it gently in Izuku’s hand. It was then unceremoniously and sleepily shoved into Izuku’s mouth with a pleased hum.
“Is he still asleep?” Denki whispered, prompting Uraraka to spit out some of the water she was drinking in a burst of laughter.
“Oh my god what if he’s sleep-eating?” Uraraka laughed. Shinsou looked contemplative, passing Todoroki Izuku’s lunch box as well and Todoroki had just continued eating. “Will he wake up?”
“How long does he usually sleep?” Denki asked. Izuku’s sleepy hand came back out to make gestures at Todoroki, sending them all in a fit of poorly concealed quiet laughter. This time, Todoroki opened Izuku’s lunch and with his chopsticks, passed over a piece of chicken katsu to place in Izuku’s waiting hand. That too, was shoved into Izuku’s mouth with sleepy bites and a hum of content.
“So cute,”Denki complained. “But yeah, how long does he usually sleep for after using his quirk?”
“I dunno,”Uraraka shrugged. “Guess it depends on how much energy he used up. Usually when we trained it was later in the day so he could go to bed early and wake up in the morning fine.”
“Aizawa said if he needs more rest he can stay and skip english,”Shinsou reminded them. “After that, he’s on his own.”
“What? I’m sure Aizawa would let him sit out on other stuff- maybe even the whole day?”Denki thought aloud.
“I doubt it,”Uraraka snorted,”Plus we have hero training today. Izuku wouldn’t want to miss that.”
“Isn’t All Might teaching that?” Shinsou asked, watching Izuku make another grab for food.
Denki perked up,”Yeah! All Might’s the new heroics teacher, isn’t it cool?! I can’t believe the number one hero is gonna be teaching us. He’s probably really good at it, I bet he has lots of experience with training younger heroes, you know?”
“I dunno, he seems kind of.. dumb,”Shinsou grimaced, not finding a better word for it.
“Head empty,”Todoroki added sagely from the couch, and Denki clapped his hands together in quiet applause.
“I’m so glad I taught you memes,”Denki said, wiping a fake tear,”That was perfect.”
Shinsou made a face, looking over and seeing Todoroki oddly proud of whatever that was. “Alright but yeah, All Might isn’t the most proactive hero when it comes to public speaking or advocating for right or anything. I don’t think he’ll be that great of a teacher,”Shinsou drawled.
“What? But he’s number one! Surely they wouldn’t let him teach a bunch of kids if he wasn’t good at it?” Denki asked.
“We’ll just have to wait and see,”Uraraka shrugged nonchalantly, but inside she was thinking over what she’d heard from Izuku about All Might. Even thoughts during the times they’d fused were… complicated. She wondered if Izuku would tell her about it if she asked.
“Wanna make a bet?” Shinsou smirked, raising an eyebrow. “I bet you a dollar All Might sucks as a teacher.”
“You’re on! I bet he’s amazing,”Denki sniffed indignantly. He turned to Todoroki and Uraraka. What about you guys?”
“I think I’m on your side Denks,”Uraraka laughed. Despite what she felt from Izuku, it mostly came across as hero worship. Its not like Izuku had ever met All Might in person, right?
“Shinsou,”Todoroki added dryly. He didn’t have faith in any high ranked hero. All Might included.
Denki hummed. “Guess we’ll have to ask Izuku when he wakes up what side he’s on.”
“Damn,”Denki muttered softly, with feeling, as the class watched All Might fumble to answer the class’s barrage of questions and then pull out a stack of notecards. “You were right.”
Denki could feel Shinsou’s smug smile from under his purple face mask. “Pay up,”Shinsou said mercilessly, taking the dollar Denki pulled out of his pocket.
“Is this about the bet?” Todoroki asked, inching closer. “I think Shinsou and I won.”
“What bet?”Izuku asked, watching Uraraka huff and pay Todoroki a dollar. “Why are you guys keeping money in your hero suits?”
They turned to Izuku with varied expressions. “You don’t carry money in your hero suit?” Shinsou asked with a raised brow.
“Uh… no?”Izuku said, looking worried. “Should I? Why? How much do I need to have??”
Uraraka snorted. “Nah you’re fine. Maybe enough for a lunch or bus ride just in case you get stranded somewhere, or need to buy something for a pedestrian? You’re fine right now though.”
“Yeah, Uraraka and I just lost a bet,”Denki sighed dramatically.
Izuku tilted his head in a way that reminded Shinsou of a puppy. “What did you guys bet on?”
“If All Might was gonna be a good teacher or not,”Todoroki said. “He’s not.”
Izuku let out a mix between a laugh and a snort that made Denki’s heart flutter. “Man,  woulda won then too. He’s kinda…”
“Dumb?” Shinsou added mercilessly, and he heard laughter from behind him from the purple haired girl.
“Head empty,”Todoroki nodded, and Denki gave him a high five.
“Yeah,”Izuku smiled, then frowned. “I met him before. It didn’t go so well.”
“What?!”Denki almost shouted, then quieted when he realized the class had turned their attention to him. When the class turned away he tried again, quieter this time. “What? How did you meet him??”
“Ah, he saved me from a villain,”Midoriya said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“How’d that turn into a bad experience?” Denki asked, confused.
“What, did he tell you you couldn’t be a hero or something?” Shinsou joked, but Izuku just glanced at his feet. “Wait what? Why-”
“I was uh, quirkless at the time,”Izuku muttered, and the other three took a breath of realization.
“Well if I knew that before I woulda won the bet,”Denki grumbled, and Izuku snorted. “I mean, it’s fine. It was a while ago,”Izuku reassured. Uraraka’s eyes narrowed.
“How long ago?” Uraraka asked.
“Uh, end of junior high?” Izuku responded, and the rest of them winced. Except Todoroki, he was busy glaring at the number one hero. He wasn’t surprised the man was quirkist. Shouto had a theory that all high ranking heroes and high class people were.
Shinsou nudged Uraraka and Denki playfully,”Hey, want to play pranks on him?”
“Play pranks on All Might?” Denki exclaimed, while Uraraka responded with a resounding Hell yes.
“I agree,”Todoroki nodded, and Izuku looked on at his scheming friends in awe and a bit of fear.
“Alright, we can come up with ideas later, but for now just be as uncooperative as possible,”Shinsou instructed, and they all nodded in agreement. Even Izuku, who did indeed want to get back at All Might a bit while supporting his friends interests.
“Any questions?” All Might asked at the end of his speech. He pointed dramatically to Iida, whose hand was raised. “You there!”
“Why are we being partnered randomly, wouldn’t it be better to work with someone who is compatible to our quirks?” Iida asked, and Izuku had to restrain himself from piping up with the answer. He was pretty sure All Might had a different one anyway.
“Yes! You will all need to work with a variety of heroes when you graduate, not all of them will work well with your own quirk, but adapting to the challenge is what makes a hero!” All Might exclaimed, then pointed to Shinsou. “What is your question?”
“How come we’re not learning the basics of fighting instead of jumping straight to battle trials?” Shinsou drawled.
“Because I’ll need to see what level you all are at before anything can be improved upon!” All Might responded.
“Is this something Aizawa-sensei signed off on?” Jirou piped up. “Cuz when I asked him he said today would be quirkless fighting.”
“Haha,”All Might laughed nervously,”There was a change of plans! Besides, battle trials are a better way to gauge your skillset!”
“What if our costumes don’t fit? Aizawa-sensei said you were going to help us get them modified if there were any problems?” Uraraka chimed in.
“Well- Anyone who can’t participate with their costume can sit out for now,”All Might stammered, before turning away,”Right! First up is group C as the heroes versus group A as the villains!”
Izuku and Shinsou exchanged glances. It was them as heroes against Mina and Iida as villains. Ignoring All Might sputtering around the students and herding them into the viewing box, Shinsou and Izuku got together for planning.
“Are you okay with fusing with me?” Izuku asked earnestly, and Shinsou hesitated. Not missing a beat, he added,”That’s fine. I think All Might would hate to see me win quirkless anyway,”He said wryly.
Shinsou let out a breath. “Right. Yeah, any plans?”
“A few,”Izuku grinned.
Iida was excited. Sure he was playing a villain, which wasn’t ideal, but for the sake of the exercise he could act. His brother had taught him a bit about acting when he’d signed him up for a play once. Except, he knew Shinou was his opponent, and that meant he couldn’t speak. He wasn’t sure if Shinsou required a response or just any sound, but Iida wasn’t going to risk it.
Not long after the exercise started, he heard Mina through the comms. “I hear them! I’m going in for attack,”She said excitedly, and Iida confirmed with the plan. He would stay and guard the bomb while she attacked. It was the perfect plan.
However, when he didn’t hear back from Mina after a few minutes, he started to worry. Soon after, there were footsteps in the hall leading up to the bomb room where he was guarding. Much to his surprise, Shinsou strolled nonchalantly into view. His costume was a lot like Aizawa-Sensei’s, but purple and black. He didn’t have a scarf, but had a mask covering his nose and mouth and a hooded cape.
“Where’s Mina?”Iida blurted out before he could stop himself. Shinsou just laughed.
“Izuku’s taking care of her,”Shinsou said, jerking his thumb back down the hall. “Do you surrender?”
Iida kept quiet, knowing that if he responded the exercise was over. He couldn’t afford to get caught now that Mina was down. They’d both lose. Shinsou only tilted his head before removing his mask, revealing a chilling smile. “Don’t worry, you don’t have to respond to lose. I was only the distraction.”
Adrenaline shot down Iida’s spine at those words, and he panicked, whipping around to face the bomb. Much to Iida’s dismay, Izuku was grinning right back at him, hand on the bomb right next to an open window. “Checkmate,”Izuku called, and Iida fought back a smile.
“The hero team wins!” All Might called over the speakers. Iida marched towards Shinsou as Izuku followed, and Mina came running into the room a minute later.
“Your strategy was admirable! Your execution was outstanding,” Iida called, chopping his hand down as Shinsou’s face went red.
“It was Izuku’s plan,”Shinsou mumbled, but was bowled over by Mina’s hug.
“That was awesome! Seriously, memes? That’s how you got me?” Mina moaned. “I bet Denki is laughing his ass off in the viewing room,”She pouted, making Shinsou and Izuku snort.
“Did you see his costume?” Izuku chimed in, apparently eager to show off Shinsou’s design, much to Shinsou’s surprise.
“Hell yeah! Dude, it’s badass!”Mina exclaimed as they walked back out of the building. “Purple is a hard color to pull off, but damn, you do it well.”
“Your costume is very stealthy as well, Midoriya!”Iida complimented, and Izuku shot him a smile. It was a bit more brightly colored than Aizawa’s but still had a plain greenish blue design surrounded by mostly black and bits of red.
“Thanks! It’s a bit plain, but that’s cause when I fuse with people their costumes get mixed into mine. Uraraka said it could look really bad if theres too many colors to mix.”Izuku rambled, and Iida could understand that. He absently wondered what Izuku and he would look like fused.
“Why did you guys not use Izuku’s quirk?” Mina asked, and Shinsou stiffened.
“No time to figure out a new fusion quirk, and sides’ we already had a good plan,”Izuku shrugged, and Shinsou sent him a grateful smile.
“It is true, you did not need to go to such lengths to defeat us,”Iida said, morosely.
“Hey, it’s just practice, that’s what makes it a learning experience,”Mina said cheerily. “Sure, I’m bummed we lost, but that just motivates me to kick their asses next time,”She said, shooting Shinsou a deadly grin, which he raised a not intimidated eyebrow at.
“You can try,”Shinsou snorted.

Midoriya Izuku's Daddy Issues, a series of Incorrect Quotes
--------
Izuku: Topics to avoid- How my dad left us and ruined our lives, how my dad got remarried and ruined our lives, how my dad moved to America and ruined our lives-
Ochako: You know what? I'm just going to steer clear of your dad entirely.
Izuku: Smart.
-------------
Izuku: Seriously, why are you dragging Sal's Pizza through the mud? That place is special.
Tenya: Why is it special?
Izuku: Because it's the best pizza in the neighborhood!
Kaminari: Well-
Tenya: According to Kaminari's email it's actually number 8. This isn't about Pizza, what is it really about?
Izuku: ...When I was a kid I would short stop on my little league team, my dad was the coach and after every game he would take the team to Sal's. Half way through our last season he left me and my mom and the worst part about it was that I couldn't go with him to Sal's anymore.
------------
Inko: That must be your birthday surprise.
Izuku: You got me the *insert old hero group here*?! Warning, a lot of them turned out to be drug addicts so this could be a bummer.
Inko: You ready?*opens the door*
Hisashi: Hey buddy. Happy birthday!
Izuku: Dad? What are you doing here?
Hisashi: I came to surprise you.
Izuku: Well, I am surprised that you know it's my birthday.
Inko: Actually, Izuku, your father and I are seeing eachother again.
Izuku: Oh, wow, that's so, that's so interesting.
--------------
Izuku: I'm sorry I got in the middle of your family business but I'm afraid I'll have to get in the middle of it again. Look, I don't talk about this alot, but I actually have a difficult relationship with one of my parents.
Aizawa: Yeah it's your father, you talk about it excessively.
Izuku: Well, I wouldn't say excessively. Sure there are times I wish he were there for me more-
Aizawa: Midoriya.
Izuku: Right, sorry.
--------------
Momo: About that-
Izuku: Wait what's wrong? That's the exact look my mom gave me when my dad left. Oh God, did my dad leave my mom again? How do you know my mom and dad?
-------------
Izuku: In a weird way I'm gonna miss our little house.
Aizawa: Yes and in an even weirder way I may actually miss you.
Izuku: Oh, and in an even weirder way I want you guys to be my dads.
Aizawa: That is weirder.
Izuku: Yeah, I got stuff...
---------------
Izuku: You risked everything to get me and Shoto out of prison.
Aizawa:...
Izuku: Oh my God, you did all of this for us? I love you Daaa-ensei! Daensei, cool new was of saying Sensei.
----------
Izuku: I think we need to help Shigiraki.
All Might: Good, I'm proud of you.
Izuku, starts crying: Oh. Just said you're proud of me, tear trigger.
---------------
Shoto: Our parents are vibing hard!
Izuku: I know! Drinking just makes people get along better. Do you think if I got my parents drunk everyday when I was a kid they would have stayed together, and we would have had a happy family?
Shoto: Probably!
-----------
Izuku: This is worse than my 6th birthday party when I found my dad making out with a female clown in the bounce house.
-----------
Izuku: So why aren't you asking Aizawa for help on the case? Wait, are you guys getting a divorce? It's okay, this doesn't bring up any weird issues for me.
-----------
Izuku: Is he mad? Did he Storm out?
All Might: No I stormed in! To tell you good work Young Midoriya.
Izuku: And there it is, the Proud Daddy!

Anymore ‘Izuku with a different quirk’ scenarios?
Hmmmm…. yep.
For this one, he had a quirk that’s a mutation of his parents and is similar to one of his great-great grandparents. Like Mt. Lady, his quirk is gigantification, only he can grow to any size he wants rather than only one
Course, the drawback is a speedy metabolism, so he and Momo casually talk in between stuffing their faces
Also, BakuDeku because soft&feral!Katsuki getting carried by his giant boyfriend
Mt. Lady’s sort of been an inspiration for him since her debut when he was in junior high. She actually scared off a couple of his bullies once. And he inspired her to be a better hero and not for publicity and fame
Even with his quirk, he was still tormented because I refuse to give him a break, but Katsuki kept the assholes at bay and eventually became his boyfriend
While Izuku tolerated the bullying, he went ballistic if anyone talked badly about Katsuki. He may or may not have ripped a row of lockers off the wall and threw it at someone
Katsuki: *Blushing* Damn, I love that nerd.
The students of Class 1A never would have guessed that Katsuki was dating Izuku. It took most of them a few weeks to even figure it out. Momo, Kyoka, Fumikage, Mina, Mashiraou, Shouji, Tsuyu, and Shouto could quickly tell during the first week
His hero name is Atlas
*Choosing Hero Names*
Mashirao: Wasn’t Atlas a villain?
Izuku: People only think that because he was punished by Zeus, who is the worst person ever in Greek mythology. So, that ‘punishment’ was probably just Zeus being a jerk as usual.
Mashirao: … *Nods* Checks out.
Oh, and Neito’s got a thing for tall guys, so when Katsuki’s not around, that’s when he goes to make his move on Izuku, who assumes Neito is just being nice
His Yuuei uniform, gym uniform, and hero uniform are all made from his DNA so that they all grow with him
Whenever he sees Mineta leering at any female students, Izuku grows to his giant size and flicks him into one of the walls. No one bats an eye and Aizawa pretends he didn’t see anything
Mineta: Aizawa Sensei! Midoriya flicked me again!
Aizawa: *Sipping his coffee* Did someone hear something?
Mt. Lady immediately likes him when she sees him at the Sports Festival
When he’s up against Hitoshi, he just picks him up by the back of his gym uniform and moves him out of bounds, but he didn’t stand a chance against Shouto, who just trapped him in a giant ice block
Katsuki is prone to jealousy in case you can’t tell. When it’s not Neito, it’s his classmates ogling Izuku while he’s bench pressing a sixteen wheeler in Gym Gamma
Izuku: C’mere. *Picks Katsuki up* You know no one’s taking me away from you, right?
Katsuki: … Yeah. Just kiss me, nerd.
Bakusquad: Aaaww!
Katsuki: EVER HEARD OF PRIVACY?!

The Boys Reacting Towards Your Quirk
Paring(s): Izuku Midoryia x reader, Shouto Todoroki x reader, Katsuki Bakugou x reader, Ejiro Kirishima x reader
Genre: this is more of a "meeting you for the first time", not really fluff but yeah
Warnings: little bit of violence, little bit of swearing, and bit of a lovestruck Kirishima
Next Part
Your Quirk: Hyena and Fire
With your mother having a hyena quirk and your dad having a fire quirk, you happened to be one of the very few to inherit both of your parents quirks.
With the characteristics of a hyena, including ears, teeth, claws, and tail, and the ability to emit fire from your body (like shouto), you make for a very interesting student at UA.
Though, these quirks don’t come without side effects, as in; cut lips from teeth, having to constantly cut/file down your nails, overheating, burns from emitting certain temperatures of fire, lose of your voice if breathing fire, and sometimes immobility from overworking yourself.
In fact, your hyena quirk also comes with an ability to eat, and that means big meals and many many snacks. But that also means energy to burn and it’s easier to workout.
But guess what?? These boys wouldn’t love you any less.
——
Izuku Midoriya
You instantly catch his eyes at the UA entetance exam. With your unique laugh and your ability to slip out of opponents hands, he instantly starts making mental notes for his notebooks.
He’s shocked once he sees your fire as you blaze past him. His green eyes widen at the warm glory as you burn the ground behind you.
After the exam, he finds you holding ice to your face. Water dripping down your arms and your tomato colored face.
“You-You were really good out there!” Midoriya stammers.
You look up at his, eyes flitting over his form before nodding.
“Thank you. You were pretty good too, despite your broken arms,” You look between his bandaged arms.
He was like 1/8th of a mummy, though you wouldn’t tell him that. It’s rude.
“Midoriya,” The green haired boy introduces, “I hope you get into UA!! I-I’d love to see you around more!!”
“Me too, Midoriya. I hope to see you around,” Your flick your ears as a loud voice sounds over the speaker.
~
A few days after the entrance exam, you’re put into the hero provision course and training starts with Sensei Aizawa.
The girls of glass 1-A take a liking to you quick, with your strong, unladylike (as Mineta says) quirks.
The more you show your quirk and the more you train, the more Midoriya keeps writing his notebook. He’s drawn a little figure of you, arrows pointing to where your hyena quirk shows. He has detailed explanations all over your page.
Midoriya notices, after some weeks, training is noticeably hard for you.
The strong rays of the autumn sun wear you out fast. You overheat quickly. Training on shaky legs, blurry vision, and messy flame practice, Aizawa will let you take breaks in between training sessions.
After noticing this, Midoryia looks out for you. Going up to your guy’s intimidating teacher to tell him you need a break, and fetching you water and ice before going back to work.
Speaking of ice, at the end of the day, class 1-A often finds you laying outside in the shady, grassy part of the training area in a large pile of ice, which is quickly melting due to your heat.
Midoriya usually rushes over and makes sure you’re okay. After that, he sits beside you and talks about your guy’s day as the ice melts away.
After awhile of you and Midoriya’s ever growing friendship and being introduced to Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki, and Asui, you both start to start to take turns walking each other home, talking about both of your days.
Then the dorms come into place, and all of the 1-A class is living together. Which means getting closer to Midoriya, which you would like very much.
That means talking in the common area until curfew and walking each other to each other’s dorms.
The girls, now surrounded by your’s and Midoriya’s clear affection for each other and they tease you both constantly. Making you flustered, which makes your ears go down (making you look even more adorable with your pouty look). And making Midoryia flustered and stammering quite loudly, making you giggle to yourself a little bit.
After a few months of dorm living, you notice Midoriya getting nervous around you, more than he was before, and some weird feelings in your body.
You also notice Midoriya asking you to call him Izuku, and him beginning to become more affectionate and touchy with you.
Like for example, guiding you with his hand after a hard practice, holding onto your clothes or hand when he’s nervous, or even just straight up cuddling you on movie nights.
He even makes meals and snacks for you!!
Which you are extremely grateful for, with your never ending hunger.
Then after a few more months of slightly avoiding whatever feeling is in your body whenever you see Izuku around, Izuku asks to talk, outside preferably so no sneaky ears hear what he’s about to say.
“So I um.... I-I like you a lot!” He starts, “Like a lot! Kinda like... I-I have feelings for you and I kinda wanna be more than friends.. I’m not gonna force you into anything you don’t want to do! I just really wanted to get this off of my chest. It’s okay if you say no and-“
“Izuku,” You stop him.
He looks a little flustered at you saying his first name.
“I uh... I feel the same way. I think??” Your little tail wags behind you. “I always feel kinda weird when I’m around you, but like a good weird, y’know??”
He nods.
“So umm... I guess we feel the same way so-”
“Do you wanna be my girlfriend?” He asks, cutting you off.
You nod, and before you can say anything Izuku bring you into a lung crushing hug.
He even picks up in said hug!! Which is surprising cause he’s not that much taller than you, maybe by an inch or so.
—— ——
Shoto Todoroki
You don’t really catch his eye at first, as Todoroki is only at UA for “business only.” The only reason he knows of your existence because of your friendship with practically every girl in class 1-A, especially Uraraka, who he knows from Midoriya who is slowly forcing him into his little friendgroup (but Todoroki’s not complaining).
When you finally do catch his eye, you're a blazing glory of fire who is.... sprawled out on his ice looking like a very happy hyena girl who grins up at Uraraka who almost slips on his ice from laughing too hard.
Todoroki huffs a bit, going to the boy’s locker room to change.
A few weeks later, some pro-heros visiting UA decided to put class 1-A in a heat test, where the USJ is pumped with hot air. This is a test to see who does well in heat and who can adapt to the conditions.
Along with these conditions, opponents are added to the mix.
You do great at first, but the fighting, sweating, and heat added from your quirk are causing some disadvantages. Which you could have not used in the moment.
You’re on top of a rocky ledge in the arena. Your weak legs shaking as you attempt to see through your blurry, spotty vision. You panic as you feel the edge of the cliff, almost slipping.
“Y/N!!” You hear one of the girls below shout.
You turn.
One of the fake villains takes to your disadvantage, knocking you off your feet, and the cliff.
You catch yourself, digging your claws into the rock. But you already feel your weak arms giving out.
You blink and suddenly you’re falling. You hit something cold and hear an alarm, or bell maybe, ring out. But that’s all before you fall into your spotty vision.
You wake up later on, sun filtering in through the leaves over you. You squint, growling a little.
“L/N’s temperature’s gone down,” A gruff voices speaks from beside you.
Then, you notice the ice cold hand on your forehead.
You almost cry at the feeling. It feels so nice compared to the heat you felt only moments before.
You look to your left, opening your eyes just a little bit more. You see half white, half red hair and a scarred face looking down at you. His eyebrows furrowed as you both make eye contact.
“She’s awake,” Todoroki says looking away.
You slowly sit up, your arms still shaky and you almost slip on the ice underneath you.
You settle against the tree, scrunching your eyes closed as a wave of dizziness overcomes you.
“What happened?” You ask, looking at Sensei Aizawa and Uraraka in front of you.
Uraraka shifts on her feet and fittles with her fingers. She looks between you and Todoroki before looking at Aizawa as he begins to speak.
“You overheated and passed out. Todoroki practically saved your life. You’re lucky where you fell, L/N,” Sensei Aizawa speaks, looking between you and Todoroki at the end of his explanation.
“You’re lucky it was Todoroki who caught you,” Recovery Girl speaks, coming into view. “Any more heat and your body would’ve gone into a shock. I’ve told the school and Aizawa to give you frequent breaks at your recommendation to prevent from this ever happening again.”
You nod.
Over the course of the next few weeks, you’re found with mysterious pre-made ice packs if Sensei Aizawa were taking your class to train out in the hot, autumn afternoon.
Todoroki often came to help you if you got too hot, and sometimes you even found him waiting for you outside of school. Him leaning against the entrance to the school, nonchalantly scrolling through his phone. But his eyes would always look up if he heard your loud laugh.
Along with this, a friendship blossoms between you too. Slowly, like a flower taking it’s time to unravel to it’s full glory.
Everyone else in class seems to notice this new friendship. Watching you two spend more and more time together over the weeks.
Like now. You and Todoroki sitting together outside of class 1-A’s dorms. It had been a hot day today, and as well manageable as the heat could be for other students, it was exhausting for you. So you sat with your forehead resting on the top of your hand, a cold water bottle in your other hand, and an ice cold wash rag resting on the back of your neck. To note, you also sat on Todoroki’s colder side.
“You know,” He started. “I’ve been the one leaving the ice packs. You know, the ones on your desk that are there on the days we go out.”
“I figured,” You nodded, lifting your head up to look up at your companion.
“How??” He questioned.
“Todoroki,” You started. “You’re the only one, out of our entire class, that vouches for my accommodations or makes sure I don’t get too hot while training. And if you’re done before me, you’re always waiting with a water. And you spread some ice on the ground for me to lay on.”
You listed off, all while looking Todoroki in his face. Your ears has perked up, showing your seriousness.
“I just got to make sure you’re okay, and healthy,” Todoroki said. “I care about you. You’re a good friend to me.”
That’s the first time Todoroki’s every straight up said he cared about you. It surprised you.
It was a few moments of silence before he spoke up again.
“You still hot?”
“A little yeah,” You answered.
The next action of his you could tell was awkward, but you can tell he put some thought into it.
Todoroki wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer so you could rest your head on his shoulder. It felt nice to be up against his cold side like this. I guess being close with Todoroki had its quirks, literally!
—— ——
Katsuki Bakugo
There’s only been two times you really caught Bakugo’s eyes.
One time was during a false villain attack at the USJ, but the teacher’s hadn’t said anything beforehand. And another is at Christmas, when Bakugo was cooking.
During the villain attack, it had been an ambush. 1-A had been practicing in the USJ. Guards hadn’t been up too high, so it was a shock when false (unbeknownst to all of you) villains took over the building, your teacher and his companions nowhere to be found.
A couple students panicked, but there was only a few of you who jumped right into action. But you were part of the panicking few, finding yourself in a moment of weakness. You were in the false lake with Asui and Uraraka, and a few of the boys. And it’s the high pitched screaming of Aoyama that triggers the fight in your fight-or-flight instincts.
You order Asui to let Uraraka tether to her via tongue, and for Uraraka to carry you up some distance then throw you in the direction of the main land. The ladies do as told, and you’re a burning up astroid to Ayoama’s direction. Once you land, on top of the villain at your convenience, you’re burning up the sides of his face and hitting a pressure point that knocks them out quick.
You order Ayoama to safety as quick as possible, and are off to other jumble of villains, throwing yourself into the heat of battle.
Now this is where Bakugo sees you for the first time, and the beginning of his respect for you.
He’s trapped under a pile of villains, his hands growing sore at his constant blasting, to no avail. And with you in the heat of the battle, he feels your heat as you pick of Bakugo’s villains one by one. And you pick of his last by a pull by the hair and a nice knee to the back of their head, and down they go.
“C’mon, Firecracker,” Those were your first official words spoken towards him since the first day of school together as you hold your hand out towards the blond, who lay in the dirt.
Sweat dots your forehead, and you’re breathing heavily. But it looks like you’re ready to go right back into battle.
Bakugo grumbles as he takes your hand. His eyebrows scrunching and he refuses to look you in the eye.
You send him a wink before you’re off again. And all Bakugo can do is stand there until someone bumps into him, and he’s off in the opposite direction.
And at the end, when all the false villains are taken down. Sensei Aizawa and his companions come in, standing at the top of the stairs into the USJ.
“Well done,” Aizawa praises.
Recovery Girl and a couple helpers come in to collect the false villains as Aizawa and his companions give your group critiques before sending you to the main campus locker rooms to freshen up before your next class.
And it’s Kirishima and Sero that tease Bakugo on the way back about his lord and savior during the heat of the battle. And they’re not exactly quiet about it either. But you pay no mind, walking back with your girls.
And when Christmas comes around, Bakugo’s cooking and serving the meals. Though he’s having to cook as he serves, as people keep coming back for more. And among those people, you, one very hungry hyena.
By now, you’ve served up your second fixing of Bakugo’s Oyakodon, which was delicious by the way. And you’re definitely letting everyone know in the dorm living room that this dish was delicious.
“This is so good, what the hell?!” You raved, your little hyena tail wagging.
Most, if not all, at the dinner table agreed.
“Who knew Firecracker could cook this good?” You poke fun, nudging Kirishima with your elbow.
With the dining table not too far from the kitchen, Bakugo hears all this praise. And to be honest, it only fills his already huge ego. And you only fill it more by coming back for your third bowl of the Oyakodon.
You sit alone at the dining table, eyes shining like a little kid in a candy store and you're tail wagging a million miles an hour with every bite you take.
He never knew a girl could eat so much, and keep coming back for more. And Bakugo finds himself watching you, even while the class helps him clean up at the end of the night.
—— ——
Ejiro Kirishima
Honestly, you probably caught his eye right off the bat like Midoriya. He thinks your quirks are so cool. He thinks it's so cool that you can match Bakugo's fire and also probbaly beat Kirishima in a fight. He'd probably have major respect for you if you did, well more than he has already.
Kinda like now.
Class 1-A was doing a mixture of sparing and wrestling for the morning today. Sensei Aizawa had put you all in unusual pairs, which landing you and Kirishima as partners.
You'd started the day off with sparing, took and break, and now you're in the middle of wrestling.
Kirishima was overpowering you at the moment, and he looked pretty proud of himself. Up until you took advantage by tripping his vulnurable leg and flipped you both around. You're on top now, legs on either side of him and you hold him down by his wrists above his head, smoking billowing from your nose.
A bell rang, singnaling the end of your class.
You got up, huffing out a sigh and smiling down at your companion. And he looked at you with a dumb, lovestruck expression. He's absolutely wrapped your sharp claws now.
"C'mon," You held out a hand to the red head. "Let's go get some food."
That's right! It was lunch time now. Some cold water would be nice right now.
He took your hand and you hoisted Kirishima up, almost lifting him off his feet.
Kirishima followed you as you took off towards the dorms to get changed. He barely heard Bakugo call him over as he watched you. To say the red head had a crush on you was a bit of an understatement.

AFO's Secret Lovechild??
AFO's Secret Lovechild?? by tkzxexo
"“Your recent development in your quirk is very interesting to me.” He made contact with Midoriya when he said this and watched the other boy squirm. “Midoriya, tell me…” he paused for a moment before completing his question so he could see Midoriya as he nearly passed out from the stress of having to do this again, “are you really All for One's secret lovechild or something?” Midoriya promptly choked on his own spit and began coughing and sputtering, tears in his eyes as he hit the floor, where he had fallen after hearing that question. Todoroki just looked down at him, not wanting a repeat of what happened earlier. “Midoriya?” He asked. “How did you know?!” Midoriya shouted, looking at Todoroki like he was some sort of omniscient being. Maybe he was…" - OR: Despite his wildly incorrect reasoning, Todoroki ended up getting one of his conspiracies correct. Who knew it would be such a big one?

Midoriya-sensei AU
Part 11: Your Power
Thank you for your patience and kind words! 💖
Also, I dunno why tumblr created random double spaces when I pasted it, but oh well
Part 10 | Ao3 | Part 12
If Izuku could go back in time and tell his younger self that he'd one day be standing in the number two hero's bedroom, his younger self would initially be horrified and demand to know exactly why he was in Endeavour’s room. However, once Izuku then explained that the current number two hero—whilst also being a Todoroki—was actually the kindest, handsomest man he knew and that they were friends, Izuku's younger self would then laugh humourlessly and ask for the punchline.
He wasn't going to go back in time and do that, but the thought did briefly entertain him, as he waited for Shoto to grab his laptop from the desk.
'Are you sure it's okay for me to stay?' He felt compelled to ask. 'I already got the letters.'
'I wouldn't have invited you if I wasn't okay with it.' Shoto assured easily, tone the same as usual; not conveying any hint of annoyance. 'Regardless of the letters, I wanted to hang out with my friend.'
His heart fluttered.
'Yeah, but at your house? Alone?'
Izuku certainly wasn't complaining, just hesitant. While he was glad no one was around to tease him—Fuyumi, specifically—it felt strange, almost forbidden, to merely be here; he felt like he was in a teen drama, being asked to come over to his crush's house because their parents weren't home.
He supposed the current situation wasn't too far off.
'Why not?' Shoto frowned. 'It saves trying to avoid the media… and I can wear my pyjamas.'
He certainly could: faded blue pyjama bottoms with cartoon All Might faces spread out across the legs, along with a black tank top that left nothing to the imagination.
'That's true. You look-' Izuku swallowed thickly. 'Comfy. I like… the trousers.'
'I thought you would.' He then seemed to realise something. 'Sorry. I should've asked if you wanted to bring yours.'
The thought of his crush seeing Izuku in his Shoto-themed pyjamas was enough to make him choke.
'It's-' He cleared his throat. 'It's alright. I'm fine in my jumper and joggers.'
'Okay.' Shoto looked around for a moment. 'I can set up my futon in the living room as well if that's more comfortable.'
Izuku's cheeks burnt.
'Whatever's easier. I don't want you making more work for yourself!'
'I would need to unroll it before going to bed anyway, so I'll just sleep there tonight.' Shoto spoke matter-of-factly, handing the laptop to Izuku, before grabbing the futon and leading the way to the main room. 'I'll be honest with you, I fall asleep during most movies, so I'd rather lie down just in case.'
'Aren't you just increasing the likelihood of falling asleep by providing the optimal conditions?’ Izuku found himself smiling with amusement as he followed.
‘You may be right, but I am also being proactive so that, in the event that I do fall asleep, I won’t hurt my back.’ Shoto replied, just serious enough for Izuku to question whether he was joking or not. Once they arrived, he set the futon down and began setting it up. ‘It’s okay, I don’t snore.’
He snorted at that.
'How would you know? You're asleep.'
Shoto opened his mouth, then closed it again.
'I've never had complaints… and I used to nap a lot whilst in the UA dorms.' He explained slowly. 'But you're right. I don't actually know for sure that I don't snore. I apologise. I am a liar.'
He lowered his head, ashamed; Izuku found it endearing, even if—once again—he couldn't tell whether he was being serious or not.
'Well, if you do fall asleep, I promise to let you know whether you snore or not.' He assured, smiling when Shoto shot him a grateful look.
'Thanks.' He smiled, then took his laptop back, before settling down on the futon and patting the empty space next to him. 'Come sit.'
Izuku nodded frantically, then made his way over. He tried to ignore the multiple scenarios that instantly formed in his head as a result of them sitting on the same bed—mostly based on romance novels and movies that were grossly unattainable—and hesitantly took his place next to Shoto. He felt very aware of his movements, like he’d somehow forgotten how to work his limbs and was relearning from scratch again. He also deliberately left a good few inches of space between them, just in case—an inordinately difficult task considering their sizes, but he made it work by awkwardly tightening every muscle in his body.
 That’ll do…
Shoto, luckily, didn't seem to notice how tense Izuku was, and set up the laptop in front of them, connecting the HDMI cable to the tv.
‘What do you want to watch?’
He shuffled, switching his crossed legs as he thought.
‘Well, I’d suggest an All Might movie, but I know that’s a sore spot for you.’ He tried joking, relieved when Shoto huffed, amused. ‘So how about a Ghibli instead? Can’t go wrong with a Ghibli.’
‘Sure.’ Shoto nodded, typing out the studio into the search bar. ‘I haven’t seen them all, but we watched a few as a class when the dorms were first set up at UA.’
‘Really? In that case, do you wanna watch one you’ve already seen or a new one?’
‘Depends.’ Shoto regarded him for a moment. ‘What’s your favourite?’
Izuku’s pulse thudded against his temples. Shoto was asking him what his favourite was? The rational part of him argued that it was a perfectly normal question to ask, but he easily ignored it. After all, Shoto looked earnest, like he actually cared about the answer.
Izuku then considered his options. He'd never really settled on a favourite—having gone through phases of being obsessed over most of them—but he could definitely narrow down a few.
‘Growing up, Kiki was my favourite.' He answered slowly, thumb pressed against his chin in thought. 'But right now, I do like Howl’s a lot, so maybe that.’
He chuckled nervously. Definitely not the hopeless romantic answer.
‘Howl’s Moving Castle?’ Shoto tilted his head to the side. 'I've read the book, but I haven't seen the film.'
'Oh, the book is amazing!' Izuku spoke animatedly. 'The film is very different… but they're both good in their own ways, and while the book explains things in a lot more detail and develops the characters in a more complex way, Miyazaki really captures the magic and romanticism—not to mention the art is as gorgeous as ever; the music too.'
He paused, gingerly covering his mouth with his fingers. 'Ah…’
Almost started muttering there.
Shoto frowned.
'You know I don't mind the talking.'
'Yeah, I know.' He awkwardly tapped his index fingers together. He still wasn't used to someone actively enjoying his muttering, but as much as Shoto liked it, Izuku still couldn't afford to be encouraged. There were plenty of people who found it irritating and wouldn't be afraid to show it. 'Just… I guess I was finished anyway.'
Shoto blinked as he observed Izuku carefully, but ultimately didn't press, which he was thankful for.
'Okay, well I don't mind watching Howl's, if that's okay with you?'
'Yeah, yeah. I've seen them all before anyway—I love rewatching stuff!' Izuku assured quickly, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. ‘When I was younger, I used to watch All Might’s debut video constantly… shocking, I know.’
‘Bet you didn’t watch my debut video that religiously.’ Shoto quipped good-naturedly, as he brought up the movie on the screen. ‘Although I will admit, my debut video wasn’t nearly as impressive.’
Briefly, Izuku wondered which debut video he was referring to. If it was the staticky footage of his fight with his brother at only sixteen years old, then the raw power was impressive… it just wasn’t really the kind of video someone rewatched for fun. A child soldier forced to combat his brother, only to watch him destroy himself with his own flames in his revenge? Even if Shoto could use his own fire in combat, it would’ve been a difficult battle.
No, Izuku wasn't particularly fond of watching Shoto fail to save Todoroki Touya.
However, if it was Serenity Hero: Shoto’s debut video, then he most certainly had watched it religiously. He’d been fresh out of UA—fully trained and more mature—as a sidekick at Gang Orca’s agency. Izuku still remembered when it aired for the first time: Shoto had single-handedly prevented a building from collapsing—saving over seventy lives—whilst also taking down a villain capable of growing and shrinking their own body at will.
He also remembered how, after the fight was over, Shoto had brushed off the press to stay with the victims, refusing to leave until everyone had a place to go.
Izuku knew then he was a goner for that man.
‘I really loved your debut video.’ He spoke, passion in his voice. 'I knew from the first time I watched it that you were gonna be one of my favourites, and I was right. You're a true hero, Shoto-kun.'
His friend pointedly looked away then, albeit the way his hair was tied up in a messy bun meant that he couldn't hide his reddening ears. While Izuku internally jumped for joy at being the reason why Shoto was so flustered, he also couldn't help but ponder how someone so attuned to compliments could react in such a way to his comment.
'Thanks, Midoriya.' He seemingly took a moment to gather himself, then cleared his throat. 'Shall I press play now?'
Izuku smiled, his tension gradually subsiding.
'Sure!'
The screen started moving—preceding the gentle, introductory melody of merry-go-round of life—and Izuku quickly allowed himself to be swept away by the music and visuals. He always got a feeling of nostalgia from Ghibli movies; a rare exception when it came to reflecting on his past.
At his side, Shoto’s face was impassive, but his eyes were glued to the screen in clear interest. It made Izuku smile, as he relaxed back against the sofa pillows that Shoto had propped up for them. For once, his mind had calmed down to a quiet buzz, despite the overwhelming presence lounging next to him. Often, Izuku found himself wanting to fill silences—not for attention, he just found it preferable to an awkward alternative where no one really knew what to say—but he found that, with Shoto, that need just wasn’t there… and it wasn’t because there was a movie playing.
Maybe it was because his friend didn’t talk much in general, but he had this aura about him; it was like no silence could ever be awkward, because he only ever spoke if there was anything meaningful to say. Izuku could understand that—sometimes it was nice to simply bask in someone else’s presence.
He was comfortable.
So much so that he hadn’t even noticed that he’d started rocking back and forth where he was sitting—cross-legged and hands gripping his ankles—nor did he know how long he’d been doing it. It wasn’t until Shoto turned to look at him inquisitively that realisation set in, and Izuku stilled, eyes widening.
‘I am… so sorry... It’s weird, isn’t it? I didn’t mean to distract you.’ He couldn't keep the slight panic from his voice. ‘I didn't even realise, it just kinda, er, happens.’
His friend tilted his head to the side.
‘Why?’
He didn’t appear to be annoyed, asking more out of genuine curiosity. Izuku should've expected as much.
‘Oh, well…’ He felt his cheeks colour. ‘I do it when I’m excited… or just happy and relaxed, I guess.’
Shoto regarded him further, absorbing his words thoroughly, before nodding once.
‘In that case, don’t be sorry.’ His eyes were soft. ‘I’m happy that you’re comfortable with me. I… it's good.’
Izuku’s heart thudded against his chest with newfound ferocity, while he pressed his lips together. Just when he thought he’d gotten control over these feelings, Shoto had to go and say something else that would make his soul transcend his body.
Despite the internal reaction, however, he didn't release any high-pitched squeaks, nor did he cover his face with his hands—which were still gripping his ankles—or begin muttering. It was quite the accomplishment, Izuku thought, as he flashed a grateful smile and allowed his body to continue rocking.
‘I’m glad. I’m always happy around you.’
He wanted to throttle himself for saying something so sappy, but then Shoto's ears turned pink again, and Izuku quickly decided that the small slip-up was worth it.
‘I… me too.’ His friend cleared his throat, turning back to the screen. ‘I might rewind this a bit—I wasn't paying attention.’
'No problem!' Izuku laughed nervously. 'Neither was I.'
He then watched as Shoto dragged the cursor back to the part where Sophie and the Witch of the Waste were climbing the palace stairs. 'Oh, this is a fun bit.'
He didn't get a reply straight away.
'I've never seen someone sweat so much.' Shoto's lips pursed slightly with distaste. 'And I did hero training with Bakugou.'
Despite himself, Izuku snorted out a laugh, then slapped a hand over his mouth to quell the volume. His shoulders still shook though, betraying his amusement.
‘You think that was bad, imagine what it must’ve been like when he first started going through puberty.’ He grinned. ‘It was awful. No one had the nerve to say anything to his face, but yeah... The only redeeming factor was the smell.’
‘I have to disagree. I'm not fond of caramel.’ Shoto scrunched his face up. ‘I told him as much and gifted him a bottle of deodorant.’
‘Pfft!’ Izuku was glad he didn’t have anything in his mouth, else he’d have spat it out. ‘What’d he have to say to that?’
‘The usual: called me a “Half n Half icyhot bastard”, threatened to kill me, started making explosions… He refused to use any antiperspirant after that as well.’
‘Classic Kacchan.’ He sighed with exasperation.
‘He's fun to annoy though.’ Shoto half-smirked. 'I once got dared to ask him whether his profuse sweating led to difficulties when it came to more… intimate activities. I thought his head was gonna explode, it went so red.'
Izuku blinked once, stunned.
'You didn't!'
When Shoto sent him a smug look, he gasped, slack-jawed. 'Wh- Bu- I… and and and you survived?!'
He was met with a shrug.
'He's not as powerful as he thinks he is. There's a reason he's the number five hero and I'm number two.’
As his friend turned back to the screen, Izuku found that his gaze lingered slightly longer than necessary. Part of him briefly entertained an alternate universe where Shoto could've been with him at Aldera; would it have been much different? Would Kacchan still have picked on him as much as he had?
He shook himself—no use contemplating what ifs—and they continued watching in silence.
After a while, bombs were falling on the hat shop, while Howl resolved to keep fighting. This scene had so many iconic visuals that Izuku started rocking slightly faster.
'I finally have something I want to protect… it's you.'
'That's rude.' Shoto huffed. 'Markyl's right there.'
'Right?' Izuku sniggered. 'Poor guy!'
His friend grumbled a little bit, much to his amusement.
Izuku really did enjoy this movie… but for some reason, this time, every romantic interaction between Howl and Sophie felt more profound. With every word and gentle touch, Izuku's eyes subconsciously watched for Shoto's reaction.
To his disappointment—not that he knew what he was looking for—his friend's face remained carefully blank. At least he wasn’t falling asleep, like he seemed so certain he would. In fact, by the time they reached the end scene, Shoto’s eyes weren’t even heavy. Izuku chuckled to himself at the small victory.
'Sophie, your hair looks just like starlight!'
His gaze focused on the shining grey hair of the heroine—only a few shades darker than Shoto’s right side—and immediately stored that line away for one of his future corny daydreams where he'd have the courage to tell Shoto how he really felt about him.
Izuku kept his lips sealed—a precaution for his muttering—and imagined how Shoto would react: maybe not as overtly excitable, but perhaps his ears would turn pink, or maybe little icicles would coat his skin, like Fuyumi sometimes did when she was happy. Izuku hummed along with The Promise of the World, as his mind conjured the mental image.
‘I didn’t fall asleep.’
He sniggered at how shocked Shoto sounded.
‘You didn’t. I’m so proud of you.’
‘Don’t get ahead of yourself. The night isn’t over yet.’
Izuku tried to hide his surprise—did that imply that he wasn’t going to be going home soon then? If so, that certainly wasn’t a problem; if Shoto wasn’t intending on kicking him out straight after the movie finished, then Izuku wasn’t about to push the subject.
'We’ll see then.’ He smiled. ‘So, what did you think? Not falling asleep is a good sign, right?'
Shoto nodded.
'It was good.’ He agreed. ‘But Nausicaä is still my favourite, both film and manga.'
‘You've read the manga?’ Izuku asked, intrigued. ‘I never would’ve expected that from you. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s nice! How come that’s your favourite?’
‘It’s difficult to describe.’ Shoto scratched his scar out of habit. ‘Just everything… I think part of it is that Nausicaä is kind, but not naïve… in fact, she sort of reminds me of you.’
'Me?' Izuku pointed to himself eloquently. 'You think so?'
Shoto nodded, but chose not to expand further—much to the chagrin of Izuku's curiosity—and the credits continued rolling, filling the silence.
'I think what puts me off Howl's is that they fall in love so easily.' His friend then mused, frowning slightly. 'I prefer the way it develops in the book… probably more realistic too.'
Izuku could understand that.
'I suppose it is a little fast, especially for the L w-w-word, particularly when it feels like not a lot of time has passed, but it's also harder to have that gradual build-up with movies like this.' He pinched his chin. 'I guess if someone feels that strongly though, anything can happen, regardless of time.'
There was a pause.
'You say that, but I could never imagine falling in love so quickly.' Shoto admitted quietly. 'Maybe it's my upbringing, but romantic love is, for me anyway, to trust someone completely. That's not something that can be achieved easily.'
Izuku tilted his head to the side.
'As a hero, I thought you'd trust your co-workers completely.'
'I trust them with my life.' Shoto nodded once. 'But that isn't the same as absolute trust… I wouldn't trust Tsukuyomi or Pinky or Lemillion to help me through a low point, and it's not because I don't think they'd be competent. It's difficult to explain.'
'No, I think I understand.' Izuku bit his lip, considering his next words. 'Have you ever… felt that way about anybody?'
His heart pounded against his chest as he awaited a response.
'No.'
Izuku swallowed heavily.
Do you think maybe you could, one day?
'I wouldn't want to subject anyone to that.' Shoto then added, and Izuku's mind immediately switched gears.
'What do you mean?' He frowned. 'You're literally perfect!'
His friend flinched.
'Don't lie to me.' He looked away, voice suddenly cold. 'I don't appreciate it.'
'What?!' Izuku's heart stung from the comment, even more when Shoto didn't respond. Perhaps he should back down and change the subject—it was obviously a soft spot—but Izuku was a meddler, and at that moment, his friend looked trapped in his own head. 'I would never lie to you. I'd be lying if I agreed with you!'
Shoto clearly hadn't been expecting him to fight the issue.
'Then I was wrong. You are naïve, or just blind.'
'Explain it to me then.' Izuku stared at two-toned hair, voice quivering slightly as his body shook. 'Make me understand.'
Shoto's head whipped around, eyes wide with frustration and lips pulled taut.
'You really want to know? Fine. This quirk that you think is so great? It's a curse.' He spat; sounding nothing like the Shoto that Izuku had gotten to know over the past few weeks. 'There's a reason I only use my left side to counter my ice's negative effects. I will never let my flames consume me like it did with Touya-nii; I refuse. Endeavour's power is the brand of a monster… and I'll always be at least half of one.'
Shoto stared at his left hand, before bringing it to cover the scar adorning his eye. 'She says I'm blameless for this, that I shouldn't ask for forgiveness, but it doesn't change facts. I've always hurt the people I love, despite how hard I try.’
Izuku sighed through his nose, biting the inside of his cheek. There was so much public knowledge about this family—so much history and abuse and tragedy—yet this was a side of Shoto that no one got to see. Those emotions were stored deep down—an ice prison—and repressed until now.
He really had hit a soft spot.
For some reason though, the main emotion coursing through Izuku in that moment was anger. He couldn't stand the way his friend spoke about himself; his attitude towards his power. Shoto wasn't looking for sympathy, but confirmation, and Izuku wasn't about to give him either.
‘It seems we’ve both made assumptions about each other.’ He said, strangely calm. ‘You’re not the hero I thought you were.’
That got Shoto’s attention. The clear hurt on that usually unimpressionable face almost had Izuku bursting into tears. Almost.
He persevered. ‘Every day, heroes give it their all to save people, yet here you are only using half of your quirk. I thought there was a physical reason you rarely produce fire, but no. Turns out you’re holding yourself back deliberately because of some grudge or superstition. You expect to reach your full potential using half your strength? Stop screwing around.'
‘Who the hell do you think you are, sounding like my old man?’ Shoto hissed, getting to his feet. ‘I thought you were my friend.’
Izuku quickly followed suit. Shoto stood almost half a foot taller—glaring down at him like he was a villain—but he didn't submit to the intimidation, whether intentional or not. Instead, he met those angry, sad eyes.
'I am your friend.' He took a breath. 'That's why I'm going to challenge your irrationality.'
'Irrational- Get out.'
Shoto pointed in the direction of the exit, but Izuku stood his ground.
'No. Not until you understand.' His throat began to swell and his eyes prickled. 'I would give anything to have a quirk. I spent my entire life being shat on for being "less evolved", told I'd never amount to anything and that I should hope for a quirk in the next life. If someone told me they could give me a quirk, I'm ashamed to admit that I probably wouldn't hesitate, yet here you are with not one, but two-'
'You want the old man's quirk so badly?' Shoto clenched his fists as a layer of frost coated his skin. 'You want his power to make you mean something?'
'Stop saying that!' He wanted to scream. 'Stop saying it's "his" power! Stop acting like Endeavour owns half of you! He doesn't! You're not two halves of one whole and you're not a slave to the Todoroki flames. It's not his power that makes you who you are and it never will. You know why?'
A beat passed and Izuku took advantage of Shoto's silence by taking a step forward. 'Because it's all you. It's your power. You become the hero that you want to be, not what you think you should be.'
He could hear his heart pounding against his chest; pulse thudding against his temples. He wasn't sure what to expect. He knew Shoto wouldn't lash out physically—he wouldn't—yet adrenaline buzzed through his body and bile crawled up his throat. He was probably visibly shaking too, but dared not look down to check.
Shoto was still staring at him, but his expression became unreadable, setting Izuku even more on edge. However, he stood his ground, determined and staunch. He’d said what he needed to say, now it was up to his friend.
'You…'
Shoto brought his hands up to cover his face, before slowly crouching down. He stayed like that for several moments, whilst Izuku wordlessly worried if he was okay.
All of a sudden, little wisps of fire ignited from his hair, gradually growing larger, then Shoto slowly removed his hands and looked up at Izuku, who baulked when he saw tears sliding down his right cheek, contrasting the flames that sprouted from the creases of his scar. The bobble holding up his bun caught alight, causing his hair to fall in front of his face.
What caught his eye the most, however, was the smile Shoto wore; it was almost liberating.
And despite Izuku’s best efforts—to tell his mind that this was not the time—he couldn’t help but marvel at just how beautiful he looked in that moment.
‘Midoriya…’
Before his friend could finish though, the fire crept onto the sofa, where the material immediately started blackening. Izuku let out an embarrassing squawk in response, alerting Shoto, who swore as he slapped his right hand over the material and encased the entire thing in ice.
The two of them stared at the now frozen sofa—the fire fully extinguished—and Izuku burst out laughing. It wasn’t even that funny in retrospect, but he couldn’t help it, especially when he saw how shocked Shoto looked. Maybe it was the residual adrenaline or maybe it was just to fill the comical silence; the reason didn’t really matter.
‘Are you okay?’ Shoto raised an eyebrow.
‘Yeah, sorry. Give me a minute.’ He took a deep breath, holding in any remaining giggles, and shook his head. Once he’d sobered up, he exhaled and cleared his throat. ‘Okay, I'm fine.’
Shoto nodded with relief, then surveyed the scene once more.
'Fuyumi is going to kill me.'
'Not if you outrun her.' Izuku shrugged. He then considered his friend, and replaced his smile with a slight frown. ‘Hey, erm… I’m sorry for shouting before… I’m not sorry for what I said, but I’m sorry for upsetting you. I can still leave if you want to.’
Shoto blinked up at him, still crouched on the floor, before sitting down fully and leaning back on his arms.
‘No, I’m sorry for how I acted. I…’ He swallowed thickly. ‘You’ve given me a lot to think about… And you don’t have to leave unless you want to.’
Izuku bit his lip. On the one hand, he should really leave Shoto to his thoughts, but on the other, he didn’t want to leave things as they were; the wounds from their argument were still fresh. If Izuku was in Shoto’s position, he wasn’t entirely sure he’d want to be alone right now.
‘Do you want space or a distraction or… third option?’ He swayed side to side as he awaited a response.
‘I was thinking…’ Shoto tucked his hair behind his ear. ‘Maybe we could put on an All Might movie?’
Izuku brightened.
‘Sure!’ He sat back down next to his friend with a smile. He suspected there were a few reasons behind the decision, but didn’t comment. He was content going along with whatever Shoto chose and thought was best. ‘Oh, this is one of my favourites!’
‘Same. When I was a kid, I used to watch this with my mother… before everything.’ Shoto explained, then faltered, mouse over the play button. He looked like he had something else to say, but didn't quite know how to vocalise it.
Eventually, he turned to face Izuku, visibly concerned. 'I haven't ruined things, have I?'
'What?' He exclaimed. 'Of course not! I'm the one who should be asking you that!'
'I...' Shoto sighed. 'I still want to be friends.'
'Oh, me too.' Izuku exhaled loudly, unsure of how long he'd been holding his breath.
'I'm glad.' But he wasn't finished. 'I'm also sorry for what I implied before.'
'Wait, what?
At Izuku's clear confusion, Shoto seemed to hesitate.
'You don't need a quirk to mean something… you know that right?'
The nausea returned.
Sure, he did know that—it had taken years, a lot of resources and plenty of tears, but it was the truth—yet he struggled to respond straight away. His life had meaning—he had meaning—but was it enough?
He shook himself.
 Don't think about it.
'Yeah.' He said instead. 'Thanks, Shoto-kun.'
His friend flashed him a small smile then—which had Izuku feeling a little guilty—and focused back on the screen to press play.
All Might flew through the sky—his silhouette passing the film studio's logo—while his theme music blasted from the tv speakers, and a sense of ease seemed to wash over Izuku. It was like coming home, after a long day of work; or finally getting in the bath after an arduous workout; or seeing a loved one for the first time in a while.
It was the power of All Might.
Next to him, Shoto leant back against the cushions.
'Hey, Midoriya?'
Izuku tilted his head to the side.
'Yeah?'
His friend was still smiling as he wrapped himself in a blanket and straightened his legs out in front of him.
'Thank you.'

Did you have a real fic in mind for the joke about the smug DFO fic writer who predicted the end of Symbol of Victory? I checked and the oldest DFO fics on AO3 (or at least the oldest ones using the tag "Sensei | All For One is Midoriya Izuku's Parent") were indeed posted about 5 years ago. I'm too lazy to check if AFO kills Bakugou in any of them... but still... this is very amusing to me. Anyways great chapter <3
No, I didn't have any fic in mind.

If a kid can take quirks, he's not exactly quirkless, is he?
if a kid can take quirks, he's not exactly quirkless, is he? by iJoke
The first time Izuku used his quirk wasn't on his mother.
It wasn't on Kacchan, who Izuku was around near constantly. It wasn't his classmates, his teachers, nor was it anyone he saw on a regular basis.
No. The person Izuku first used his quirk on was his quirk doctor.
Who had an anti-aging quirk. ———— get rekt garaki
