Rewatching The Wagons Roll at Night and it’s like the bizarre fever dream of a six-year-old about a town legend—“And then the lion got loose! And Barney the Guy Who Owned the General Store trapped him in his store! And there was a baby in an apple barrel! And then he went to tour with the circus! And then his boss tried to murder him by putting him in a cage with a crazy lion! But then the boss decided to save him at the last minute and sacrificed himself instead! And anyway now Barney lives on the farm down the road!”
(Also, man, this must have been a vehicle for Joan Leslie, because every shot of her is like two seconds longer than everybody else’s.)
