warnings: angst. a lot of it. blood mention, knife mention, death, hurt/no comfort, a tiny bit of fluff if you squint, but it will mostly hurt im (not) sorry, no gender mentioned for reader or y/n, not beta read (never is)

summary: not everyone can make it out of raccoon city unscathed... lowkey inspired by @triple-asstro. i've had this idea for a while but reading their fic really made me want to write mine, so shout out to them fr.

The scene unfolded like a nightmare, not dissimilar to what was happening to the entirety of Raccoon City, certainly. But this– It was a perfect rendition of everything that Leon had ever feared. It was cruel and tragic; Leon couldn’t hear anything over the roaring of his heartbeat in his ears, accompanied by the painful ringing of static, white noise that was anything but soothing, as he watched you fall to your knees. Time slowed as his mind raced. It wasn’t something that could actually happen, the world wouldn’t stop turning even for a moment, but Leon felt as though it had. It was interesting just how much he could think about in so little time… The way you smiled, the car ride on the way into the city just a few hours ago– If he could have recorded it; would have known that it might have been the last memory shrouded with normalcy and not tinged with melancholic guilt and so much blood– He would have done so in a heartbeat.

“How does it feel knowing that I’ll technically be the one doing your training?” You smiled smugly at Leon from the passenger seat. Despite the two of you being relatively close in age, you were ahead of him. You’d always been the leader of your class and now a leader in the field. You’d only been working a year or so longer than him, but you loved to pull rank and the two of you hadn’t even gotten your coffee yet.

The blonde had been tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, in time with the song that lulled on in the background, one that you hummed to whenever a moment of silence fell in the car, but that morning, conversation rarely quieted. He groaned, though he wasn’t actually bothered by your teasing, he never was. It was simply the way you two got on after so much time spent together. “Oh, bite me.” He huffed, eyes sparkling in the light that shone from the passing streetlights. It was still dark out with how early it had been, fog covering the streets as the humidity had risen during the night.

“I’ll never hear the end of it, will I?” He smiled in your direction, though the sentence had been punctuated by a dramatic sigh.

“Nope.” You popped the ‘p’ as if to emphasize your point and he shook his head at your antics. He really could never get enough of this, as much as he pretended to hate the teasing relationship that the two of you had. He admired you, he always had. Your strength and diligence, the kindness that always persevered no matter what hardships you went through, and the way you looked at him. It made him feel giddy all over again… made his cheeks flush a bright shade of pink and his heart raced in time with yours because the two were entwined. He’d given up his heart to you a long time ago and while he wasn’t prepared to face the weight of that reality– The one where he could lose you because of a stupid crush. He bit his tongue when people made their assumptions, always playing it off as though it simply couldn’t happen, though he never brought you down in the process. He wondered if you knew that you were his entire world.

Leon laughed, “You’re insufferable.”

His entire body trembled as he fell to his knees beside you, knowing exactly what being bitten meant for you. He’d seen Marvin, he’d seen people being torn to shreds, and while he hadn’t seen anyone turn, he hadn’t expected you to be the first.

He uttered your name, voice breaking in the middle of it as he choked on the syllables, throat thick from his unshed tears. He’d have to keep it together for you, though he knew by the unadulterated terror in your eyes; you knew your fate. He placed shaking hands against the bleeding hole in your neck, desperately trying to stop the bleeding despite knowing the action would be futile in the end. He searched your face, chest heaving as he spoke, “J-Just hang on, okay? We- We can patch this up a-and find someone- someone that can help you- that can fix this.” His voice was pleading, but he wasn’t pleading with you, at least not entirely. He didn’t believe in a God, but he was willing to beg on his knees to him if it meant that you would get to stay alive… get to come home with him safely. He couldn’t even feel the tears that had begun falling freely from his eyes, not until you began wiping them away.

“Leon…” You breathed, voice resolute despite your fear. There were moments in your life when you’d thought about this moment. You wondered what would be the thing to take you out and this was so far down on the list of possibilities that you would have laughed at your own ignorance… at the corruption that was happening right under your noses.

You tilted your head, thumb still wiping away his tears as he leaned into your touch, still soothed by it ironically enough. He wanted to memorize the way your skin felt against his, warm and alive while he still could. The thought made his chest ache as the dread threatened to rip him apart from the inside out. Even still, he clung to each word you spoke like it was gospel.

“T-There’s nothing we can do, y-you know that.” There was a small smile on your face but it wasn’t the usual one that you wore. It wasn’t soft and cherubic, angelic in nature like Leon always assumed you’d been– rather it was clenched, tainted with the fear that permeated your mind and quickly overcame your being. Your nerves were shot, your entire body burned and ached. The worst part of it all was knowing that you’d have to leave Leon alone in this hell, not knowing if he’d survive.

Your semi-calm demeanor didn’t last much longer as you began to crumble, your own tears escaping your eyes, “I don’t w-want to die, Lee.” Your voice was quiet, desperate, and all Leon wanted to do was to comfort you, to tell you that death wasn’t an option but that would be cruel. He couldn’t lie to you knowing that it would be the last thing he did for you.

He closed his eyes, clenching his jaw as your hand moved from wiping away his tears to placing your hand on top of the one he’d been holding against your wound, hissing at the way it stung with pain at the slight shift in pressure. He didn’t know what to say, if there was anything that he could say that would make the situation better for either of you.

“Just- You’re with me now, j-just hang on for me? As long as you can, I-I’ll be here until the end.” And he meant it. The crushing weight of what he’d have to do lingered in the back of his mind, he knew that he’d have to be the one to kill you. He couldn’t– wouldn’t let you turn into one of those monsters, no matter how much it hurt. He knew it would haunt his psyche for as long as he lived.

You slowly became more desperate, tears flowing as you squeezed his hand. You could almost feel the way the virus pulsed through your veins, though you weren’t sure if that was adrenaline or something you were imagining, but you wished it would stop. You wanted to be able to pretend that everything was fine in your last moments, but you knew nothing would ever be the same again, not when you were six feet under and Leon wasn’t. He’d always been the type to blame himself for things outside of his control and you were more than worried about how he’d respond to the inevitable. You almost laughed at the thought, the way you were more concerned about his well being even as the life within you had been slipping away for far too long. Even after all this time, you loved him more than you’d ever loved anyone else, but especially yourself. Maybe it had been unhealthy, at least in the sense that maybe you should have liked yourself more, but what was there to lose while on your deathbed?

“Y-You know how when we w-were kids, we always said we’d get married? B-Because we didn’t understand what that meant?” You breathed out, stuttering and hiccuping through the pain, chest aching as you puffed and heaved, breaths coming out way too hard and in way too fast. Leon nodded and despite the tears, you genuinely smiled. It knocked the breath out of Leon as his tears came even faster.

“‘Course I do.” He huffed out a humorless laugh, waiting to see where you were going with this.

“When I g-got older I realized… m-maybe you are the one I want to marry. I-I know that now and I- Fuck I just wish I told you sooner.” You cried, digging your nails into his hand slightly, desperate to feel something that wasn’t your own body, nothing felt real anymore and you didn’t want to let go yet, not when Leon looked at you like you hung the stars in the night sky just for him.

“Oh, sweetheart…” Before he could say anything else, you were shaking your head, “Maybe in another lifetime, right?” Your breathing was slowing, your body losing its warmth and color rapidly as your clock began to run out. Your eyes were wide as you panicked, though your lungs weren’t able to hyperventilate anymore, it was your time to go. All you wanted was to hear Leon confirm that he felt the same way, maybe it was foolish and slightly selfish, but you needed him to love you like you loved him… until the end.

Somehow, Leon managed to sob even harder, pulling away his hand from your wound, now taking your bloodied hand into his own as he looked at you, holding onto the limb like it would be enough to make you stay. “My heart is yours, in every lifetime.”

As if that was all the confirmation you needed before letting go, you took your last breath, eyes dulling as the life left your body all at once. Your body went limp and Leon crumpled, pulling your corpse into his arms as he fully let go, near animalistic sobs escaping his lips as though there was no one else around. He was sure that any zombie within a 5 mile radius could hear his screams of utter agony, ones that made his throat raw as he buried his face into your hair. While the world never stopped turning, his had, in fact, he was holding his world as well as his heart in his blood soaked hands and he knew that he’d never be the same again, the ghost of you anchoring him to this godforsaken town no matter how far away he’d get.

After what was probably considered to be far too long, he unsheathed his combat knife, glancing away before burying it in your skull, closing his eyes against the noise that it made. It made him absolutely sick to know what he’d just done, but he hoped it kept you from becoming reanimated. He spent a bit longer recuperating and attempting to pull himself together, numbing himself to the pain that agonized him. His only purpose now was to get out of the city, but after that? He didn’t know, nor did he care. He’d left his heart back in that room he’d left you in and as far as he was concerned, he’d died right there beside you.

"Oh, wait, so you were the latest person hired?" Atsushi's head cocked to the side, looking at you with curiosity. "How long have you been here?"

"My dear here has been with the agency for three months! You know, I was the one that brought them on board," Dazai gloated, a smug smirk on his face and a dramatic hand over his heart.

You were quick to play along, throwing a dramatic hand over your forehead as you leaned back. "Oh, my hero! What would I do without my lovely Dazai?" The sarcastic lilt in your tone didn't go unnoticed by the newest agency member, but he decided not to comment on it.

"Was it like what happened with me? Did you find Dazai drowning?" Apparently a common occurrence, Atsushi had pieced together.

Dazai denied, a smile on his face as he replied with a simple, "Nope!" A few moments of silence passed before the junior realized he wasn't going to elaborate.

Just as he opened his mouth to ask for more information, you decided to take pity on the poor soul and fill him in. "I bailed him out of a holding cell."

No one bat an eye. Atsushi looked around the office, trying to see if maybe someone was holding back laughter, but not a single one of his new coworkers were phased. Did they not hear what you said?

"He got detained for public disturbance in the middle of a case. I told Dazai he'd have to find a way to get out on his own, and he shows back up not even thirty minutes later with them in tow," Kunikida explains, frustration evident in his voice. "I was trying to teach him a lesson."

"I was in the area," you shrug.

"Yeah, being detained as well..."

"I was being released from detainment, actually!" You correct Kunikida, a proud grin on your face. "And Dazai said I should follow him, so I did."

Atsushi laughed awkwardly. He knew you seemed similar to Dazai in your hedonistic pursuits, but this was baffling. "And the president hired you?"

"I had an entrance exam, but pretty much! I had just been fired from my old job the day before so Dazai helped me get set up here. And before you ask: I was fired because I told the boss' kid I wouldn't date him. He got all upset and told daddy to can me," you huff in frustration, still annoyed at your wrongful termination.

Kunikida rolled his eyes. "Don't act like some martyr; You also deserved to be fired. You just messed around on the job like you do here. You barely got any work done."

"You want me so badly it makes you look stupid—"

"I told them to sue and say it's discrimination because they're aro," Dazai cut you off, a pout on his lips like he's annoyed you didn't take his advice.

"What's... arrow?" Atsushi cocked his head to the side. He was unaware of the terminology, having never come across it in this context during his studies at the orphanage.

"Oh, it's shorthand for aromantic. It just means, like, experiencing little to no romantic attraction to anyone. It varies, of course..." You try to explain simply.

Atsushi nods, understanding the basic idea. "But it'd be wrong to lie about your sexuality, right?"

"I'm aro, actually," you shrug. Everyone at the agency is well aware, so Atsushi will likely find out eventually.

"Oh!" The younger employee's cheeks turn pink, feeling a little sheepish for assuming. A moment passes as Atsushi thinks before furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. "I thought you and Dazai..?"

"We're both aromantic," Dazai rests his chin on his hand, elbow on his desk and an amused smirk pulling at his lips. "I've dated a lot in the past, but I realized it's just not for me."

"I've never been in a relationship and never want to," you add in yourself. "Aromanticism is... much more complex than how I explained it. Dazai feels romantic attraction, but doesn't— Is it fine if I tell him this?" You suddenly ask, realizing it really isn't your place to speak on his experience, even as his best friend.

"Oh, I don't care. Saves me the trouble," Dazai waves his hand dismissively. "But yeah, I feel romantic attraction, but lose it when it's reciprocated."

Atsushi nods slowly, beginning to understand. "Oh, okay. So you two are just close friends, then."

"Are we just not going to ask what you were doing in a holding cell when Dazai got thrown in?" Tanizaki asks from his desk.

"I just got too silly, you know how it is."

stray kids rockstar review!!!!

1. blind spot - okay yk pls this is in the best possible nostalgic way but it sounds like it's part of the lego movie soundtrack go listen if you don't believe me ABD THATS A GOOD THING!!!! this song just SWALLOWED ME ALIVE oh my gosh it reminds me of retro jpop and also 2000s teen movies and maybe that's why i was like obsessed? the vocals and the CHORUS oh my gosh it just was everything i wanted and yes this was the one i pressed on first when the album came out bc i have been WAITING FOR HER

2. lalalala - NEED I SAY MORE??? this was everything and more for a title track oh my gosh. i was a bit skeptical when they announced the name bc it sounded like it might be a bit too repetitive but NOPE OH MY GOSH IT ATE THIS WAS INCREDIBLE also felix finally being able to swear made my aussie heart proud 🥹🥹 the choreography too though oh my and i LOVED that the chorus was done by the people who don't often do the chorus?? does that make sense?? also it's a longer song which is a win bc why is every title track under 3mins now like wtf

3. comflex - IM LITERALLY CRYING DID JYP PERMIT THEM TO RELEASE UNCENSORED SONGS 😭😭😭😭 i love me a rap song with some insane vocals though hgdafg it's giving very 5 star but also i see why it fits in this album and im here for it

4. megaverse - look this is TITLE TRACK MATERIAL it's like the banger b side that could've been a whole comeback of its own (im looking at you charmer, item, get lit and domino) the only thing i didn't like was their promotion style this time like y'all did NOT just spoil two of your songs before releasing the album like when i know songs in the album/songs repeat in the album it basically makes me think minus those songs so this album was really only 4 songs for me since every other song i already knew/is a variation of another anyway other than that it slaps but would've slapped harder if it was a first time listen

5. cover me - SEUNGMIN YOUR VOCALS AT THE END HAD ME GASPING FOR AIR SHSHUAHSHHSHA stunning and stunninger its a bit like stars and raindrops's emo older brother shhshs this fit skzflix SO WELL THOUGH

6. leave - same as megaverse if it was a first time listen it just wouldve hit that tiny bit harder but still in love with it!! it's the chill sad love song that every skz album needs fr the new brother of collision, chill and mixtape oh

7. social path - we already knew her but she still did well as always! i mean its hard to fuck up this song but it's not hard to fuck up my brain like girl i really went and understood it in japanese and now she's re released in a different language and im gonna be confused af whenever this version plays 😭 I WILL SAY THOUGH social path definitely fits this album better than the japanese one like it's a lot more rocky whilst social path + super bowl felt a bit like an awkward combination and then butterflies was fr just hanging in there 😭

8. lalalala rock ver - still good but i prefer the other one, it'll probably grow on me though!!! why is this giving when txt released an emocore version of 0x1=lovesong 😭😭

MY JWCC S5 REVIEW ♡ SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

》 you have been warned ⚠️

》 to start off, WHAT A RIDE THIS SEASON WAS!!! theres lots of opinions, like the finale pacing etc, but tbh; with 12 episodes i think they did pretty well ending the show with the time they had! to me personally it didnt feel rushed at all, i actually wanted everything to pick up the pace so the kids could be happy and safe again 😭 with that out of the way, lets get to it!

》story & mr.kon

- s5 continues off right from the end of the previous season, where the camp fam meet Mr. Daniel Kon, Kenji's father!!!

- right off the bat mr.kon seems pretty trusting and relieved to see his son, but theres still hesitancy to trust him from the kids and quite frankly, the fandom as well. the kids out kash on all of his BS and mrkon rightfully so punishes him, and gets the kids to safety with food and SHOWERSSSS YESSSSS THEY CAN FINALLY SHOWER!! (kenji shaved and also brooklyn redyed her hair idk how) but at what cost.... its just too good to be true! ep1 is pretty tame, it gives the kids a break FINALLY and mae gets patched up!

- the story from then on goes to the kids doing their thing, sussing mr.kon out, rightfully so, while being torn on breaking kenjis heart abt the truth abt his dad and saving dinos, usual jwcc shenanigans ensue.

- I THINK MRKON WAS WELL DONE. his manipulation game is off the charts and he knows how to act fr, the way he can flip sides when hearing things he does not like in a second, he does it to kenji too. and hes not unhinged like kash, mr.kon IS the mastermind, hes very smart and knows how to manipulate kenji— its so heart breaking. in my s5 predictions post i said it could go two ways; mr.kon as an ally to the kids against kash, or mr.kon being the real enemy. LOOKS LIKE THE LATTER...

- my only gripe is i wish they showed more abt how mr.kon got this way— like was it the mothers death, or is it a trait that got passed down by his own father, or is it just simply greed?? who knows. its never really answered if he does care for his son or not? to me i think it was just convenient at the time for kenji to be around— i didnt see any signs mrkon ever showed affection for kenji when it didnt benefit him 😭😭 which is DEVASTATING. mrkon was out of the parenthood game fr...

- as usual, all the adults die fr but theyre badguys and death-by-dino is sick asf so i love it! EVEN KASH GOT GOT and that was sooo satisfying. mae was safe tho and as she should!!

- ok so apart of me really wanted mr.kon to get a redemption arc or smth— like a bigger bad makes him ally with the kids and he really bonds with kenji.. but then kash dies so im like "WELL there goes that possibility" and then i had hope for the investors to turn on mr.kon— nope they all died except for the lady IN WHICH the antagonist from jw:dominion comes in (the guy who runs biosyn i forgot his name) but then obv cant be possible bc they cant kill him off since he has to appear in his own movie... IN THE END, no redemption for mr.kon and fine. thats fine im fine.

- OK ill be honest MR.KON IS KINDA.. BAD OK? LIKE.. 😳 HELP IM SORRYYYY its just the way he grabbed kash by his the back of his neck and was "go back to whatever hole u came from" IT MADE ME FEEL SMTH A LITTLE OK.. he lookin for a stepmom for kenji or... 🤭.... IM SORRY HES AN ATTRACTIVE SINGLE DAD ALSO A VILLAIN, WHAT DO U WANT FROM ME 😭😭 i was taking notes while watching the season and if you see them its just me simping for mr.kon HELp

- ok ANYWAY the fact that he was legit willing to let the kids die and even LET DARIUS GET KILLED in front of kenji i knew... it was over..

- final confrontation between kenji and mrkon was sad😭 HE LEGIT JUST LEFT HIS SON ON AN ISLAND THAT HE BELIEVED WAS GONNA GO TO SHIT... apart of me wants to be like "oh he probably thought kenji was better off with them" but its pretty much apparent ig that he does not give a shit abt kenji— which is why i wish theyd spent some time showing kenjis history w/him bc we know mrkon was not present most of his life, but there SEEMED to be something more. oh well. bye bye mrkon!! AND HE GETS ARRESTED OFFSCREEN TOO, which is just sad for kenji 😭

- THE LAST EPISODE is absolutely my favorite and the ENDING is amazing ill tell u why in a sec just u wait!!

- IT WAS SO OBVIOUS HE WAS MANIPULATED and has daddy issues, and im so glad brooklyn saw that. I WAS PISSED that no one else did, like ur telling me ben and yas couldnt see it? i think they were a bit dramatic on their hatred for kenji but ig its understandable bc out of everyone they arent that close w/ him.... BUT STILL. messy.

- I WAS SO PISSED AT SAMMY AT FIRST FOR BEING INDECISIVE bc shes torn between her bestie kenji, and her other besties+yasmina. tho i do believe she never blamed kenji by the way their reunion went (she was just happy he was back w/them) so ill give her a pass.

- IM CONFLICTED ABT DARIUS bc i thought originally he was just too heartbroken abt kenji yet hes not used to talking abt his feelings hence needing the dinosaur interaction. but he just said he didnt care??? like bro... why r u lyin.

- darius at least shouldve stepped up a little bc other than brooklyn, he knows kenji had issues with his dad... oh well.. dino lovers are crazzzzy

- im at least glad he was the one who stayed mad at kenji for the longest #payback my broken boys... BUT it paid off when darius forgave kenji THEY BOTH CRIED?! i cried. it was so sweet and idc if anyone thinks "kenji was forgiven too early and it was rushed", bc truth is hes a kid with dad issues and the others are kids and they are family and they! need! each other!!

and the lannisters HAHAHHAHAH also have 0 clue about them tbh but i know that lena heady's character is apparently at least a formidable force to be reckoned with and a girl boss city girl slay. but then again yeah idk aslashflasfhas

HEY EVERYPONY GUESS WHAT! NOPE IS PRETTY GOOD YOU SHOULD WATCH IT!!

spoilerless opinion: it balanced comedy and suspense SO well, it was super enjoyable. i loved the characters ESPECIALLY em and her fucking awesome gay girl fashion. the plot twists were So juicy and cool and the buildup for them was MASTERFUL it fit together soooo well. and omfg the special effects... the design.. the SOUND... its so creative its a home run fr go watch nope

spoilerful opinion under the cut bc omgggg

god the BEAUTY MWAH of the motifs in this movie. the heywoods introducing themselves by reminding you that the First film was a black man on a horse... and then at the climax you got a guy shooting with an oldschool analog film camera A Black Man On A Horse. the visual echoes of the flags and the air dancers AND jean jacket’s fucked up threat display.

AND IM OBSESSED WITH MR PEELE’S LIVE ACTION AKIRA BIKE SLIDE YEAHHH me n my friend in this packed theater the ONLY ones to point at it like “aha!” but that was such a fun moment omgggg

and like sorry but fdhsfhgdsf gruffly singing one eyed one horned flying purple people eater in a very serious tone does NOT make that a seriuos song i was just fucking laughingggg maybe its supposed to get a laugh out of me but the scene was just too serious otherwise i wasnt sure dfhgfdsg so fun tho

like im still processing so much trying to figure How The Fuck jupe got into the alien summoning game. bc it hasnt just been the last 6 months its clearly been the whole 3 years hes been around right? you dont call your tourist park “Jupiter’s Claim” and not be already planning to host aliums right? and the way that shoe stood... that couldnt have been jean jacket but somehow the gordy stuff isn’t just trauma on its own. theres some kind of direct link between his obsession over the most traumatizing experience of his life (and man the way they have him talk about it to em and oj was Perfect like just generally a really well-done scene) and his connection to jean jacket.

is it Just that he sought that feeling of being the only one spared, the only one with a bond to the beast? is “Jupiter’s Claim” really just a coincidence?? it can’t be, bc i remember in Us there were so many subtle visual cues that played into the story (adelaide’s plain clothes reddening with blood as the story continues, her daughter’s rabbit motifs). maybe it’s supposed to be like. the characters didnt choose this for a Reason but the story did yk? hmmmmmmm googling nope ending explained i guess LOL (joking)
