Azure Dragon – Meng Zhang, the blue divine sovereign who protects the East.

The Azure Dragon is one of the guardians of the four cardinal directions in traditional Chinese culture, and according to the Five Elements phylosophy (Wuxing: Ref), the Azure Dragon is a spirit animal of the East. The Azure dragon has been considered a auspicious sign since ancient times, and governs spring (January, February and March).

In the Taoist version of his name, he was known as the divine sovereign ‘Meng Zhang’ and was the founder of the Dragon Tribe (a tribe that lived in the Dragon Realm and respected freedom).

The guardians of the four cardinal directions is another name for the Four Gods (Four Symbols) in Chinese mythology. They are the Blue Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird and the Black Tortoise (also called "Black Warrior").

Symbol of the five elements of the bagua, god of the four directions, genus of the divine sovereigns.

In Taoism, the Four Symbols have been assigned human identities and names. The Azure Dragon of the East is named ‘Meng Zhang’, the Vermilion Bird of the South is called ‘Ling Guang’, the White Tiger of the West is ‘Jian Bing’, and the Black Tortoise of the North ‘Zhi Ming’.

Astronomically, it corresponds to the Chinese constellations system, the Seven Eastern Mansions of the Twenty-Eight Mansions. The name derives from the seven eastern mansions (Horn, Neck, Root, Room, Heart, Tail and Winnowing Basket) being linked together to form the figure of a dragon.

天文学的には、中国の星座系、二十八宿の東方七宿に相当する。東方七宿（角宿・亢宿(頸)・氐宿(根)・房宿(室)・心宿・尾宿・箕宿）が連なり、龍の姿になることからこの名がある。

This was the penultimate issue of the series, the cancellation of which had already been announced. The following issue would be the last, featuring Bumblebee and Guardian looking through a casebook to learn the untold tale of the formation of the team. When Bumblebee and Guardian finish the other members arrive to announce that the Teen Titans are being disbanded so the members can purse their own solo careers.

That didn't last long, though, as the team would be back in 1980 under new management - Marvel Wolfman and George Perez - as the New Teen Titans.

This is Mohsen Shekari, 23. He was a cafe barista. He loved serving coffees made by his art. He was a gamer too.

He was arrested on the 3 of Mehr (September 25) during street protests in Tehran and the Revolutionary Court of Tehran accused him of moharebeh for closing Sattar Khan Street and injuring a Basij officer. Moharebeh means fighting with God. They say the Basiji guy's wounds were so superficial the guy didn't get any stitches, meanwhile the police kills protesters and blinds them with no prosecution. So to put it simply, they sentenced him to death because he closed a street! And wounded a Basiji's ego! With the accusation of "waging war against God"! He was executed this morning against public demand to free him (December 8, 2022).

Almost every arrested protester who's been sentenced to death has been labeled with the same accusation: "war against God". Because Khamenei thinks he's God and therefore opposing the regime and his rule is opposing God.

To the western Media who were quick to say iranians are liars and no one is getting executed, where are you now? Why aren't you reporting this?!

Make whatever conclusions you want about the letter, who am I to tell you what conclusions to draw?

I will not stand for the blatant silencing of information. I do not care which side you are on, everyone needs to have context and information to make informed decisions on what stance to take.

Where is the freedom of information? What about the freedom for people to make their own decisions?

Shame on you The Guardian. You cannot remove information and just expect everyone to be okay with it.

Extract 1: Jon Lansman, the founder of the grassroots movement Momentum....challenged Keir Starmer to sign a new joint letter from a range of Jewish and Arab social justice groups and others calling for a “a stable ceasefire” between Israel and Hamas, along with a commitment to negotiations, mutual recognition of rights to self-determination and an end to settler violence and the harming of innocent civilians.

Extract 2: “Most people who go on PSC marches are people who genuinely want to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and I have no problem with that,” Lansman said.“But in the past – the last time I was on one was 2015 or 2016 – I found it uncomfortable to hear the ‘from the river to the sea Palestine will be free’ chant. Where does does it leave Israeli people? Can there not be scope for a message that has the sentiment ‘from the river to the sea Palestinians and Israelis shall be free and equal’?” Extract 3: “One of the problems is that many on the left insufficiently differentiate between Jews. They seem to categorise them as Zionists or anti-Zionists,” he [Lansman] said.

“In fact, British Jews have a wide range of views and very many who the left might see as ‘Zionists’ are critical of illegal settlements, the occupation, of the Israeli government and even of the conduct of the present war.”

Like others, he said he now found himself conflicted against the backdrop of the current conflict. While recoiling from the particular horror of the Hamas attacks, he added: “There are similarities between Hamas and ministers from the [far-right] Religious Zionist party in the Israeli government that are horrible.”

Extract 4: “I want a cessation as soon as possible but my view is that a ceasefire without a clear purpose will not change the tide of the war and could just end up making it go on for longer,” he said in an interview last week.

“As it happens I have some sympathy for Keir Starmer’s conclusion that calling for a ceasefire now is wrong. A ceasefire now could merely sustain Hamas as a continuing threat.”

He had turned towards what practical contribution he and others could make to peace in the medium to long term, suggesting that there could be a campaign to free younger Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails as a way of creating alternatives to the unpopular figures in control of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

“Both Jews and Palestinians have been poorly served by their current leaders and need new ones to provide partners for peace,” he said.

The Union of Soviet Super Soldiers (USSS):

It's 1976 or 1977. At least 12 years since the avengers were founded in the US. The Soviet Union is desperate to create their own superhero team to rival the avengers. They've tried to create figures like the Red Guardian, or the Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man before, but it always fails. But perhaps it's because they never assembled a proper team? That's the logic that leads to the creation of the Union of Soviet Super Soldiers (Or USSS for short) in 1976 or 1977.

Founded in July 1976, the original team consists of:

Red Guardian III (Vladimir Ivanov): I already have a whole note on him. But he's the team leader, and one of the members of the team most devoted to Communism.

Vanguard (Nikolai Krylenko): He's a real comics character. I'm pretty sure you can find info on him through a Marvel Wiki or through Google (that's how I learned of him).

The Winter Witch (Katerina Obolensky): Abandoned as a child in the snowy mountains of Siberia, Katerina Obolensky learned to be one with the ice and snow. Nobody is sure if she's a mutant or some kind of demigod, but she is definitely powerful. Capable of controlling the ice, snow and winds at a single thought. She can generate winds, blizzards, avalanches, etc. When in her natural element she is a god amongst men. But when she's far separated from any form of cold, she becomes weak and frail.

The Gift-Bringer (Adrian Abel): Adrian Abel is a mutant. Born with the uncanny ability to control poison and even generate it (they can turn their whole body into poison dust or into liquid poison, for instance), they were considered a threat to others and sent off to an elite mutant training facility in Russia. There, they learned how to control their powers and make themselves less dangerous to others. Worst comes to worst, they were at least given a containment suit to prevent them from accidentally killing anyone with their poison.

Considering how powerful they are, it's only natural Adrian was recruited to the USSS. They're both powerful and extremely volatile, however. So they possibly be the most dangerous person on the team. So they require extreme protective measures to ensure they don't accidentally poison the people they're trying to help.

PS: Adrian is the only character not originally from the USSR. They're East German. I realized the German word for poison is gift due to google translate, and so I couldn't resist this bit of humour.

Crimson Dynamo (Dmitri Bukharin): Same as Vanguard. The Crimson Dynamo (including this version of him) is a real comics character who can find out more about through Google or a Marvel Wiki or something.

If you're wondering where in the timeline of comics this is supposed to be, it's shortly after Darkstar defects to the US to join The Champions. And she will join this team eventually, if someone (either me or literally anyone else) takes this idea past the concept stage.

So Alfred was made responsible for Bruce after his parents' death but what about Leslie Thompkins? I think it says somewhere that she was Bruce's guardian too, but then she just never gets mentioned in correlation to Bruce's parental figures. Maybe Jim Gordon too, though I don't know if that's fanon or not.

Ok so Jim Gordon is pretty much a fanon thing - he’s either new to Gotham when Batman starts out (like in Batman Year One) or he’s new to Gotham when the Wayne’s die and thats one of his first big cases (Gotham TV). I personally like it when he’s the on the Wayne Murder case, because it creates a sort of circle - the cop who failed Bruce working with Batman.

He also has very little connection to Bruce outside of that, more of a family friend, someone Alfred considered a good influence more then anything.

Legally and morally Jims responsibility to Bruce starts and ends with solving the Wayne murder (and being a mandated reporter). He never quite manages that one either does he.

In Leslie Thompkins’s original appearance she played Jim Gordons role of being the only person at the scene to try and comfort Bruce, and was later made into a family friend (colleague of Thomas) who decided to take a parental role in Bruces life after his parents death. That was a personal choice though, and legally she had no responsibility to him, outside of being a doctor and also a mandated reporter.

(I keep specifying ‘legally’ not because i think that is what makes someone significant to a kid, but because that would dictate how much access/power/consideration these people would have in a kids life. Legally neither Leslie or Jim were/are Bruces guardians, that doesnt mean they wouldn’t stick around when they could)

I also keep specifying that they’re mandated reporters because in quiet a few canons, Alfred is not Bruce’s first legal guardian (regardless of what his parents may have/may not have wished/willed). The legal maneuvering around becoming a vulnerable baby billionaires guardian would have been a nightmare, and both Gordon and Thompkins would/could have stuck around for that. Them being a cop and a doctor would have been very useful for Bruce’s safety.

Alfred was also “made responsible”, but the glossing over of what that means and how that would have happened is such a wasted opportunity. I promise the absolute shit show around that custody battle could fuel a million angst fics.
