yo, having 6k in chapter 3 is amazing. good for you!

my first playthrough i got the white arabian and i named her Lemoyne Tree as a tribute to the state of Lemoyne and my favorite post malone song Lemon Tree. But she always got super dirty so i then went to the lake next to Strawberry and tamed the red chestnut arabian. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that one, she's gorgeous and arthur always gets that one when i play it. my beautiful baby girl Diablo <3

also yes. heckin FUCK MICAH BELL. even from the beginning he's been a slime ball. hate that man <3

i won't go too far, but just keep yourself high honor towards the end of the game. you need that to be your first ending. :')

Charles deserves the absolute world. just listening to him speak and hanging out with him at camp, and the missions you continue on to do with him throughout the game are so much fun. charles is someone i wish i could have in my real life because he seems like he would be the best person to speak to and hang out with. he is so lovely and down to earth. even arthur says it a couple times throughout the game. charles gets a good ending i promise.

my top blorbos are Arthur, Dutch, Charles, Hosea, and Josiah Trelawny my absolute beloved <33333 just wait until you go on the mission with Charles to find trelawny. one of my favorite missions ever ever ever ever!!

a lot of people dislike dutch, but i love him so much. he is my actual father. i love him.

About Wendyyyy.... Not really, no! Full disclosure, there was a plan to have Wendy relapse, but that was when I thought Vince and her would stay broken up! Instead, they got back together and are going more strong than ever, so that also fell out of the window!

I think what you might be reading on Wendy is that I've brought up her ED a couple times, mostly because I'm writing her getting more and more close with the gang (in particular Bella), so I imagine she'd open up more too.

I got a request a billion months ago that asked for Wendy to be sick and Vince to overthink and assume its her relapsing and I'm very in love with that ask still. I think it fits their current storyline, since he's away and Wendy IS very happy atm so I don't see her genuinely relapsing, and I'm gonna write it, I just gotta write a couple other things first 🙈

There was also a request for Wendy to have a migraine (long time since she had one!) and Max be the caretaker, with Vince being very protective of her once he gets there! SO no ED relapse, but there are some Wendy stories in the makings 💛

fav sabezra moments???

HOO BOY you've opened the floodgates now, lol.

I've already talked about some of my favorite moments when I did my Top Twenty OTPs post series (and boy, I am still not over just how quickly Sabezra climbed its way up the list and shoved a bunch of other entries down, lol) but I might as well talk about them again because shut up I love them and you can't stop me.

I love basically... all their interactions in the finale. It's really hard to narrow it down to just one moment because they're all SO SO GOOD but the top highlights are:

Their brief conversation in the gunship before the mission. Because Sabine is so ATTUNED to him and sensitive to what he's feeling and thinking and she can tell that he is abnormally Distressed about this mission and for a split second you can see him really struggling with whether or not to tell her. Before he basically lays out that he has the utmost faith and trust in her. Trust that is put to the test when...

Ezra sneaks away and Sabine covers for him. The looks on their faces are heart-wrenching ugh don't touch me. Him silently begging her to let him do what he needs to do. Her agonizing, visually pleading with him for a moment not to do it before she accepts that he has to, and her small nod of understanding. ABSOLUTELY KILLS ME.

Their adorable banter over the comms. "Well, you could have told the rest of us." "I wanted it to be a surprise!" EZRA YOU CHEEKY LITTLE SHIT.

(Also of note: Sabine begging Ezra to get off the ship before it goes to hyperspace and him saying his final goodbye mostly to her JUST STAB ME IT WOULD HURT LESS.)

And I'd be remiss without mentioning her staying on Lothal for seven years, living in his tower, with her hair cropped short like his, her armor covered in tributes to him, affectionately poking the cheek of her painted mural of him before leaving with Ahsoka to go bring him home.

HHHHHNNNNNNGGGH I loved them before and the whole finale just took it over the top spilling out and drowning me with feels.

Aside from the finale I also really love:

This bit from the end of "Heroes of Mandalore".

THIS LOOK.

MY GOSH IT IS SO SOFT AND TENDER AND WARM AND DAMMIT YOU TWO WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT EACH OTHER LIKE YOU ARE YOUR WHOLE WORLDS?!

Ridiculously unfair.

The whole canyon chase in "Imperial Supercommandoes".

This is basically what made me ship it because I took one look at them tag-teaming in the S3 previews from this episode and my brain went "Battle Couple!" and I was a goner. You could not dig me out of the pit after this, lol.

Some other favorite moments:

Counselor!Ezra from "Trials of the Darksaber".

They have a lot of really great interaction in this episode but this soft conversation between them after Sabine has yelled at Kanan in frustration and stormed off is just so understated and sweet. Ezra comes up to her like he always does when a member of the crew is upset—because he's an empath and an encourager and he worries about her in particular—and sympathizes with her about Kanan being kind of a hardass teacher.

Sabine is still stuck mentally in her self-pitying guilt spiral, though, railing about how no one understands and she doesn't want to talk about it. (Which uh, Sabine, how do you expect anyone to understand what you're feeling if you won't tell them?) It's clear from Ezra's expressions that he does understand, but he respects her wish not to talk about it and leaves her be. The parallels to Season One, when Sabine was urging Ezra to talk to Tseebo to reconcile his unresolved family situation, are just delicious.

Speaking of though...

"Happy Birthday, Ezra Bridger."

Cripes these two kill me. She didn't have to go rooting through the disc and she didn't have to clean up the picture of his parents for him but it was his birthday dammit and he'd had a horrible day and she'd spent two episodes worrying over him and caring about him and arguing for him to find closure about his parents so she was going to give him a present to cheer him up and hhngngnnn the lighting is so warm and her expression is so soft and it's just a breath of balming peaceful relief after the day's harrowing events.

Stealing the TIE Defender and the wolf ride in "Flight of the Defender".

Their banter in this episode is hilarious. "Well, Ezra, you've certainly got their attention."/"I'M GLAD THIS IS WORKING FOR YOU!" kills me with giggles every time. And then Ezra is just so Worried and Concerned about Sabine when the wolf shows up and so careful with her when he takes her down off it at the end of their ride aaaah.

This boy and his utter trust in her, ungh. He posed objections to having to give up his lightsaber earlier and yet when Sabine is weaponless and trying to protect her mother he doesn't even hesitate.

Some honorable mentions:

Ezra sacrificing himself for her in "Always Two There Are".

Sabine choosing to go back with him to Atollon in "Zero Hour". (Bonus points for convincing her mom to send reinforcements with them because if Ezra says they can do it, they can.)

The ridiculous amount of hand-holding (well, catching each other by the hand) in "Heroes of Mandalore" and "In The Name Of The Rebellion".

Their awkward undercover "date" in "The Occupation", specifically when Sabine softly grabs Ezra's wrist to pull him away before he does something rash to the Imperials.

"Are you with Sabine?" "Yeah I'm with her!" [mental backtrack] "I'm mean!—I'm not with her with her, I'm just friends. With her."

Their absolute faith in each other in "World Between Worlds". ("Sabine will know."/"He's on his way.")

Ezra's petty jealousy at Lando in "Idiot's Array".

Pretty much any time she puts her hand on his shoulder but particularly the moment in "A Fool's Hope".

Aaaaand that's as good a place as any to end my very extensive (but by no means exhaustive!) list.

I just love them so much.

Finally finished Tales of Eternia!!

And that makes 11th tales games finished and 15th overall played in some degree (Phantasia, Legendia, Innocence, and DotNW being the ones I havent finished yet).

Once I started again in December I decided that instead of liveblogging I’d make a review at the end instead.

So here we go! I will keep this spoiler free as possible!

I’m pretty scatterbrained but I’ll try to divide this into: combat, story, characters, and other game mechanics.

Combat: So obviously, the combat is above Phantasia and Destiny’s, being made after them. I honestly have grown fond of the 2d linear style format. There’s so many different boss fights in this game that can only work in a 2d field rather than 3d.

On the flip side, that’s not always a good thing. I count bosses like the wild dog thing in Vesperia, and Fodra Queen of Graces to be among the hardest mandatory boss fights in tales. Welp, Eternia added one to the ranks. Rem (aka Aska the light spirit) is one of the most frustrating boss fights I’ve done. Apart from constantly slowing healing itself, on the field it brings a shiny ball with it. You cannot destoy the orb, it’s there all fight, and if you touch it it hurts you. And of course it blocks the way to Rem. There is a way past it, it moves up and down so you just have to wait until its up to move past. BUT GUESS WHAT THE AI DOESNT DO. So your party will probably either be dying or constantly in pain. AND REM CAN MOVE THE ORD ANYWHERE. Also you cant physically hit Rem while its casting a spell only far away skills. So if you ever play this game just cheese it and spam variations of Sonic Blade.

Of course, on the flip side it’s every easy for you to cheese boss fights and just back them up into a corner unable to move or do anything until they die, so it evens out.

The sprite animations for the artes are gorgeous. Reid moves so fluidly in his artes, he’s honestly my third favorite protag to play as behind Yuri and Ludger because of this. The caster animations are great as well, granted it can become cluttered and hard to see in when artes like blizzard and earth shaker are used. BUT GOD DAMN I CAN WATCH MEREDY USE METEOR ALL DAY IT LOOKS SO COOL.

Nitpicks about the combat system are, Life, the reviving spell Farah has, takes to long to charge, and for Meredy and Keele to use healing artes you have to mix and match who has what craymel (spirit). There might be a guide but I didnt look beyond reddit so Life was the only resurrection spell I had.

Last nitpick comes from the Aurora Artes. Aurora Artes are skills only Reid can use, but in order to use them you have to have health below 15% and press circle, square, and x at the same time, so it’s very easy to mess up and die. Then to use more Aurora Artes you press the same buttons repeatedly, and after you use them Reid is left with 1 hp. AND the final boss has an automatic kill skill, you have to press the buttons at the right time to activate it and keep everyone alive, or you can cheese it like I did and have Farah hold a reverse doll to revive her after she dies. Did I also mention this skill happens in phase 2 of the fight when the bosses health is less than 20,000 after starting from 300,000? If you fuck up thats like 10mins of redoing.

But to end on a better note for this section, I love the way artes are learned. You have to use certain artes a number of times before you can unlock it (I THINK abyss and vesperia and many others are like this but this is the first time I found it rewarding). I grinded like hell to get the best artes for Reid AND YOU BET IT WAS WORTH IT. Omega Demon Chaos I love you,,,,

Story: Like countless other Tales titles, the conflict comes from two worlds being at odds with each other. However this game does something that none of the other games have done with this story beat. Language barriers! It’s super cool in the first couple of hours theyre just trying to figure out how to talk with Meredy. Of course by the end this point is nearly dropped entirely, everyone else just getting the special ear ring I spent 3 hours to get so the plot can move on.

Like most tales, theres a moment you thought the story would end but BOOM the twist. I wasn’t shocked by it, but that’s because I knew who the final antagonist of the game was prior to playing it, but still it was executed well.

Something that makes this Tales stand out is how they deal with backstory. So the main fours backstory is vital to the story and their characters but they don’t show it till like 20 hours in. It’s like if Graces you start off in main arc and learn about the childhood arc 2/3 of the way through and went “ohhhh that’s why they were distant with each other.” And other stuff about it but I won’t spoil it.

Overall a good story, though I do feel like I’m missing things either from missing some side quests, or because of no skits.

Characters: The main ones to shine are the four main characters (Reid, Farah, Keele, and Meredy), everyone else literally is either one dungeon and/or optionable. Chat does still feel like a character being the owner of the Van Elita aka means of transportation for half the game. Max and Ras tho rip. ESPECIALLY MAX. Ya know how every tales there’s the mandatory Talk Before The Final Battle? Yea well they all get one except Max. You see him, but he doesnt talk, YET THEY CRAYMELS DO.

Another odd, yet charming, thing is that there’s no big moment of character development for anyone like Luke cutting his hair, Magilou keeping the portal open, or punch in the face like Alvin. They just. Slowly change. And its really weird cause for all of disc 1 Keele is basically an unbearable asshole and he just? Learns to be a better person from everything he sees? There’s no callout or moment of realization, he just slowly learns and it’s super refreshing.

Reid is probably one of the most relatable protagonists up there with Jude. I’m sure most of you know the “he doesn’t want to do shit lol” persona he has BUT GOD WHY HE’S LIKE THAT BABY I LOVE YOU. Farah’s personality is also explained in the backstory, so for any of you crestoria players that Farah’s backstory is really different like how Emil’s is, but the sentiment of why she’s like that is the same and stem for a similar event.

Meredy’s also great. I thought I’d get annoyed of her and her “You bet!” but god when she says it the last time at the end of the game, I was pretty moved. I wish I knew more about her backstory but I’m pretty sure a certain section of her life info was left to skits and ya know we didn’t get those till Symphonia :)))

As antagonists go, besides the Craymels who are there to test you before you get their power, there’s just two. Main boss and their lackey. The lackey is eh. You see him once at the beginning of the game, then see him destroy a city, then one last time where you kill him. You do get his backstory and stuff but eh I’m usually not fond of tales mini villains minus Chimerad, God Generals, and Artorius’s lackeys

The main antagonist tho, I really don’t wanna spoil it but it’s hard to talk about why I’m conflicted on it without spoiling. So it’s like Destiny’s final boss but written better in some part and worse in others. So at one point it’s super emotional and pretty powerful with the message eternia wants to send but at the same points its a jrpg where you gotta kill god cause he doesn’t think humans are worth it.

Oh one more thing thats honestly hilarious, there’s literally SINGLE animated cutscene by Production I.G in this entire game minus the op.

Other things: the amount of mini games in this game is insane, but the amount you have to do IN JUST THE SECOND DISC to continue the plot is more than any other tales game I can recall. Some of them are fun like the card game, others like the bomb one I want to throw in a fire.

There’s also so much Destiny pandering in this game. There’s portraits of the characters, you can collect lens, I’m 95% sure the way a certain character is done is because they wanted another Leon, you can SUMMON THE SWORDIAN USERS ARE AS AN ACTUAL SUMMON. While all Phantasia gets is the cameo battle and the Eternal Sword. I mean I didn’t mind cause I’ve finished Destiny and it’s one of my fav tales games but damn it was pretty obvious.

EXPLORATION IS SO FUN IN THIS GAME. Mainly near the end when you have free reigns. YOU CAN DIVE UNDERWAY AND EXPLORE THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA WHAT OTHER TALES GAME LETS YOU DO THAT???

In conclusion: A fun game! I don’t think it was worth 133 dollars tho consider my play file was 35 hours and thats with a good chuck of side quests and ex bosses. Probably in my top 5 combat systems of tales and final villains, but not in terms of story or characters. A really hope it gets remastered soon I’d love for more people to play it.

Literally just finished watching Revolutionary Love, and Byun Hyuk is not the only one that fell in love with Baek Joon’s strong personality. Totally love this girl!!!

There were several kdramas that I discontinued because I was bored and just sorta disliked it (like it’s not my type). Most of these are action-genred dramas and the ones that are political and pretty heavy (like I didn’t finish vagabond and k2 although they are actually really good ones, I just don’t really like the genres that’s all), but out of all of these I’d probably hv to choose Abyss (stopped watching it after only 2 episodes) or Cheese In The Trap (THE ENDING OMGG I WANNA CRY 😭😭 CITT IS LITERALLY MY FAV WEBTOON AND THE DRAMA’S ENDING RUINED THE WHOLE THING)

Well I’ve known kdramas ever since I was little (I used to join my cousins sometimes while they were watching them) but as a summary, I liked dramas because of webtoon (like drama genre yk) and at that time my cousins and one of my aunt who were at my house at the time were binge-watching CLOY so I sorta joined and watched like half of it, and when it was done there were other kdrama reccs there (we were watching it on netflix) and one of them was WWWSK and I was sorta interested and curious so I decided to watch it with my aunt. Ever since then I’ve been obsessed with kdramas that I binge-watch them everyday lol

Technically the first drama I’ve finished was What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (step one on being a PSJ fan woohoooo), but back then when I was little I sometimes joined my cousins when they were watching The Heirs and My Love From The Star

Well if you’re talking about drama that I watched this year, it’ll be too many as I’ve only just started watching kdramas literally March this year, so I’ll only perceive this as my favorite drama that was released in 2020, which is Backstreet Rookie although a lot of ppl actually hated it. Personally I disagree with those points too (adult webtoon, prostitution, underaged kissing, etc) but I really like how it’s such a funny comical drama, like those types of dramas are my favorite

Favourite Doctor: still Ten, i love 12 and 13 almost as much, even if not harder atm, but if it comes to choosing 1 fav doctor then it’s always Ten, so far no one stepped higher for me :’D I loved his era, i loved so many episodes with him, his season arcs, his companions, his relationships with everyone, and this is the only Doctor whose regeneration was smooth for me, he was continuation of Ninth Doctor and it felt like that. I was not like ‘but he is so different in so many ways’ nope, never. Maybe it’s because companions were the same, everyone was still around which was great btw, and I fell in love with the show with Tenth Doctor, dare I say that I stopped watching back then when Matt Smitt became doctor? lmao, must be shock for some but yes, I dropped this show because of THAT lmao??now i laugh at my own self but yeah, i did. where’s everyone, why it feels so different? that was huge nope. Only years later I got back into it, thanks to amazing Michelle Gomez. Actually I was not even going to watch other doctors at that moment, but I watched episodes only with Missy, then i said well it’s not bad I like it and Missy and Twelve were?? OOOF LOVES OF MY LIFE FOR SURE because their relationship were so cool and of course i loved it, so i started a huge rewatch, the first since i dropped the show. Fell in love with Doctor/Master all over again, Ten was as amazing as I remembered, Nine was perfect and I love him too!!! and then... i got to s5... oh god, i was like, let’s give him a chance, what do i lose? but it still felt so weird, and the show was so different, and suddenly everyone else is so important but where are old characters? but i got into it because i have already seen some of 12′s episodes and i got used to the style?? i guess. and then River appeared, not because of her but around episode 5 or 6 i was into it already, not as much as i was before but anyway, maybe weeping angels helped because i loved them and it reminded me of Ten, i felt some kind of a connection to old doctor. I liked River with 10, i thought i will like her with 11 too... but alas, still felt like you know those boys who have never had sex but try to act like they know everything about it and hit on every moving thing and think they do it cool? :D i am sorry if i hurt someone’s feelings with it, but that’s how 11 was for me back then, and while I do understand river/11 it’s the least of all river ships for me, 11 is still the least fav doctor because of those feelings i had back then when i stopped watching, they are not rational i know that now but still feel them, but i love him now, and will protect that kid at all costs! i love ponds, i will kill if anyone says anything bad about Rory Williams! and Amy and Rory? quoting my favorite star trek couple? DUDE WE GO TOGETHER OR NOT AT ALL!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! and even if i was not into all river/11 relationship i loved the story, and of course i liked 12, but s8 still feels like what the hell for me, not because of the doctor but because they tried so hard to show clara as bossy, i mean, i liked her with 11 and then suddenly they turn her into some control freak, it was not so MUCH with 11... but i know now why they did it, so Missy’s words have an effect and all. but still, i love clara before and after s8 :’D s9 clara? i will kill for her too. it’s too long but idk :’D and actually, this shows that if you give it a chance even if you don’t like actor/actress at first - you might love the show ;) so stop acting like jodie is miscast honestly, i am ready to fight anyone for saying that :D say whatever you want about plot choices, but do not fucking act like it’s Jodie’s fault! actors are not responsible for show runner choices. She acts amazing with the material she has. anyway, 10 is my fav idiot!

Favourite Master: Missy, always was and always shall be. My favorite character in general in the show, no one tops my girl!

Favourite Sonic: honestly? i don’t really remember any sonic but 12′s glasses :D so... glasses. I mean, i don’t really care how it looks like, it does its job... most of the time lmao, but i liked those glasses and the thing with browser history was my fav :D

Favourite Companion: oh it’s soooo hard!!! either Donna or Bill. I can’t choose. but yeah, those are both with whom there were no ‘romantic’ relationship implied, i love friends more than couples. and I just loved 10 and Donna as a team and Bill and 12, i still wish they had more time. also Martha, the smartest companion lol she was amazing.

Favourite Story: anything involving The Master :D all episodes with them are my favs, but i can’t just pick one story, i still remember the first episode i watched back when it was airing and are you my mummy stuck in my head for the rest of my life giving me brrrr feeling, like it was not scary but somehow made me super uncomfortable? also vashta nerada?? duuuuude, you can’t just look at the shadow the same way. and ten/river together were really great, i mean, he did not know who is she, the mystery, i love shit like that?? yeesss!!!!! there are so many great ones. I don’t want to choose.

Favourite Soundtrack: that unreleased tiny melody when the master dies in the last of the time lords T--T and this is gallifrey and clara’s theme! those are my favs. and I also really like 11′s theme, kinda ready for adventures and doing some weird but funny shit :D

Dream Actor for next Doctor: ooooof OOOOF dude! you know what, usually it is one actor for 3 seasons, that’s how it was for the last 3 doctors, i want Jodie to break that rule and stay with us for 4th season as well, i just want to see how pissed off those haters will be lmao i really really think the entire timeless child thing will not feel the same with someone else yet, and i don’t think they will reveal much in 13th season, that’s HUGE thing, or they should make it so good and the next doctor... aaah i don’t want to feel that change again, like i did with 10 to 11, and felt with the every next doctor, but i overcome that shit and just give them a chance, it’s the doctor after all and im sure loving all of them now. not sure it can disappoint me even if most of plot choices in the season are ... weak. idk who, there are so many great actors but whoever i choose will not be as great as someone they choose, because they always somehow cast amazing people, but i agree with emily it’s time for a doctor of color! tho, they can’t go back to white male actor right now, i just can imagine how it will look like, with all the hate Jodie received and how people still whine about female doctor, it will look like they tried and decided to go back to white male doctors, one half will be happy but the other one will eat them alive! so yeah, i am pretty sure it’s not gonna be white man again yet lol

Dream Story: well, considering 13 is in jail now, i would love to see someone “we know” rescuing her, because honestly if they just showed me jack and left it like that, i will not accept it!!! but also since yaz will be the only one left with the doctor, since bradley and tosin leave the show, i hope we will have some yaz and doctor relationship development without anyone else, maybe jack could stay because i love him, but jack’s presence did not hurt doctor and rose relationship development back then, so it should not hurt now also. but if they bring someone new, at least don’t make it right away, let yaz and 13 have an adventure at least 1 episode, some talk and stuff. so when yaz leaves also... (and i kind of had that stupid feeling that yaz will die in the end, because somehow everything hints on that for me? idk maybe it’s because i rewatched and giffed orphan 55 today and vilma (?) telling yaz to run and stay alive kinda felt like something that hints on yaz’s future... and yaz is always going somewhere without thinking, to random alien ship, to save the doctor, she steps into trouble like a doctor hoping everything will somehow be ok, but im not even sure she hopes, it’s more like i am as good as her so i can do it, not in clara’s way when everything hinted she is like the doctor, because let’s be honest she was and even got her own tardis, but she thinks she is, but she is not, i think some day that might end bad for her... so when she also leaves i don’t want it be like well yeah, what’s next? i mean, i still miss Bill, that was like NOOOOOO with tears and screams for me, i loved Bill! and we had 2 seasons with yaz and i still don’t feel the same connection to any of the current companions atm, so i would like the show to make me love them more, i do love them, just not as much as those i still miss, but im sure defending any of them lmao i love them anyway. you know what i mean...

A Companion You’d like to see back: oh OH. we cant bring them back for entire season right? but doctor can meet Donna at some point, which will have no point lmao cos she doesn’t remember and it will only hurt doctor and i don’t see how her appearance will help any plot, it will be just fanservice cameo. But Bill is out there with Heather, they are powerful creatures now, i think it could somehow fit into the story, I want Bill back. But also, Clara is still one heartbeat away from death, she can be out there, and she has tardis. tiny cameos will be fine for me :D and Martha, but also Madam Vastra and Jenny, Kate and Osgood, where they are??? bring them back and it can make sense, their appearances. I mean, imagine someone from UNIT in s11, not unit itself but osgood??? it would feel so much different.

An Enemy/Alien/Creature you’d like to see again: weeping angels!!!! OOOF they were creepy, and i love them, like, DON’T BLINK!!! how can you not blink for so long? that is cool, i want them back. and also the most beautiful shots are always with angels so... :’D

If you could travel with one of the Doctors, which Doctor and why?: oooh, while 10 is my fav, and I totally would hit on 13 :D i will choose 12, 12 from season 10, because he was such a grandpa, no lovey dovey stuff, he would lecture me on thing i do, give me new info about something, we would explore shit together and he would be like a grandpa i never had. We would definitely have long discussions about stuff and have good laugh together and i would make references to movies and then we would watch those movies :D i would act like Bill lmao yess i want to travel with 12!!!

Books “Read” in 2019

I am going to rank these by how much i enjoyed them vs. any actual literary quality. often well written books aren’t always the most entertaining books.

Note: i listen to many of these books at work, which is why i am able to go through so many of them in a year.

Novels from The First Law:

Best Served Cold (#1), The Heroes(#3), Red Country(#4), Sharp Ends(#5).

A Little Hatred (#2) (Age of Madness, sequel to The First Law)

I read “The First Law Trilogy” about a year or two ago and finally got around to reading the rest of the books, just in time for a new series taking place in the same world to start up (Age of Madness) and now i am waiting like everybody else for the next two books to come out in 2020 and 2021. A Little Hatred shouldn’t be read as a stand alone, a lot of what goes on is dependent mainly on knowledge from the first trilogy and in The Heroes, then bits and pieces from Best Served Cold and Red Country. So much of your enjoyment of each book is based on what you’ve learned in other ones (character development or seemingly useless information being not so useless later).

Age of Legend (Book 4, Legend of the First Empire)

This is more-or-less an “aftermath” book where the main characters are still reeling about what happened in the previous book and are trying to make plans for what they are going to do next. I still like the characters and the world/setting it takes place in.

House of Assassins (Saga of the Forgotten Warrior, Book 2)

I’ve been waiting for the next book in this series to come out the second i finished the first book in the series. It is one of those Science fiction in the disguise of Fantasy settings and I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how that plot/revelation comes out (I am certain that the location the story takes place is Earth, more specifically around Asia/India, but in a post-invasion apocalypse setting where nobody remembers anything prior to the invasion). I also really like how much of a badass Ashok is... i have a thing for emotionally stunted badass characters, especially when their flaws are held up to a mirror and have real consequences.

R. R. Haywood’s Worldship Humility & Extinct (Extracted, Book 3)

I love the way Haywood writes characters and dialog. I was at-first iffy about WSH, but was won over after i warmed up to the new characters.

Shades of Magic Trilogy (A Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering of Shadows, A Conjuring of Shadows)

Solid multi-verse and magic system world. Well-written characters, some minor nitpicks on plot points, but can be easily ignored. LGBTQ rep, the gays don’t stay buried.

“Don’t you have enough [knives]?” “You can never have too many.” [me, every time: LOL]

One of the few times when a character deserves a redemption arc, doesn’t really get one, dies, and i am perfectly fine with it because it is done well.

Assassin’s Fate (Fitz and the Fool, Book 3)

I read this one in book-book form, but i already knew most of the emotionally painful parts of the book by spoiling it to myself when it first came out a couple years ago. The main appeal is the inner monologues of the two main characters, even if like 50% of this trilogy is basically spending weeks/months trying to go from Point A to Point B, when many other books would have glossed over the details of travel.. but you can really feel the stress as they dwell in their thoughts and struggles.

Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles & Circe

Re-Imagining of the Iliad and The Odyssey. Focusing not on the characters of Achilles or Odysseus, but on Petroclus (Achilles’ lover) and Circe the sea nymph witch that Odysseus had an affair and child with.

The Spear of the Stars (Cycle of Galand, Book 5)

Still love Dante and Bleys... This is where they really get into the meat of world building and solving the mysteries of the Arawn Cycle (the book/bible) and peel back the layers of their reality.

Dust (Silo Book 3)

A great ending to a good series, it answers whether or not humanity can or has survived what had caused them to be locked away in the silos.

Blackthorn and Grim (Dreamer’s Pool, Tower of Thorns, Den of Wolves)

I like the premise of the books, the two main characters first seeking out revenge, but end up wanting to become better people due to magic shenanigans.... One part Fantasy, One Part Mystery, One Part Lovestory.

The Dispatcher (Audible Free Book)

I want a whole series based off this novella. It is John Scalzi so he can write a good story. I had previously read Android’s Dream by him, which it didn’t make it into my top-10 that year, but was still decent, even if the subject matter was a bit gross... The Dispatcher world is a Sci-Fi Noir, not quite Cyberpunk, where people don’t die by anything other than natural causes. The Dispatcher’s job is to kill people before something goes does wrong and the person “resets” to when they where safe and sound.

All the Pretty Horses & Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West

The master of bleak and depressing fiction. if regular Dark Fiction isn’t enough for you.... there is Cormac McCarthy books. Get use to the “purple prose” that fills up pages with no dialog.

The Golem and the Jinni

Supernatural world of the far past dealing with Edwardian New York and Immigration. It not only is a “fish out of water” story of the two main characters trying to fit in with society but they are among communities that are also new to America and trying to find their own place in the world. There are love subplots but most of those kind of fizzle out.

The Axe and the Throne: Bounds of Redemption Vol. 1.

“Discount First Law” book... it is lacking the dark humor that made TFL series far more entertaining. This was also the book that was prefaced by warning people about how grim and dark the setting was... Hahahaha. I still found it entertaining none the less, and hope the rest would show up on audible soon.

Black Snow, White Crow (Audible Free Book)

Another one of those short stories that should have a larger saga to its name. Fantasy Industrial Punk. It has the whole equality role reversal thing going on, it isn’t done quite as well as Left Hand of Darkness (but that book leaned onto the boring side of things).

Stephen King’s IT, Pet Semetary, and Carrie

It’s Stephen King. Classic King. Not much else to say.

Watership Down

Depressing Rabbit Book. Though I did like all the stories and mythology the rabbits had.

Bloody Acquisitions (Fred the Vampire Accountant, Book 3)

A series that is always fun to listen to. I wish the audio books were cheaper because they are rather short.

Lethal White (Cormoran Strike, Book 4)

shuddup, i don’t care if it is Rowling... i have a low-key crush on Cormoran.... he just hits that big-burly tragic-backstory man-shaped soft-spot of mine. These stories are also her “for adults” writings so... expect more racism and garbage values.

The Eye of the World (Book 1, Wheel of Time)

Classic set up to a long running series, though i am reluctant to go further as the middling books in this series are said to drag out the story too much.... It’s not as self-centered as Wizard’s First Rule and the characters are more relatable and stick to their fantasy tropes. This is the “mold” that other modern fantasy try to subvert by going “darker and edgier.”

The Exorcist

If you like the movie, read the book. There is a lot of back story that the movie wasn’t able to adapt.

Phillipa Gregory’s Plantagonate Novels (The Lady of the Rivers, The Red Queen, White Queen, The Kingmaker’s Daughter)

Sometimes it is like reading the same book 5x in a row. other times you end up not liking the previous protagonist in a book you just finished reading because of how the current protagonist sees them from their POV.

Return of the King (Lord of the Rings, Book 3)

Read the other books last year and didn’t get around to this one for a few months.

I don’t mind that they all are done with a full cast. Though often I end up wanting to find the actual book and listen to them with just one narrator and descriptions.

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (Narnia, Book 1)

I would like to get the rest of the books in this series, but for books that are only 5-7 hours long they want 20$ a book for them. It needs to go into an omnibus.

Stephen Fry’s Victorian Secrets (Audible Free Book)

It’s Stephen Fry... he’s funny and a good narrator.

Wizard’s First Rule (Book 1, Sword of Truth)

I don’t like Richard. He started off alright, but even before he got tortured 2/3rds into the book, i was starting to dislike his personality. Other than that, the side characters and world are solid, but it was like taking an R-rated movie and cutting it down for TV. There is somethings that are vaguely described when i am use to harder fiction like ASoIaF, The First Law, Dresden, and McCarthy books actually describing those things.

Halloween (2018, movie novel)

Like I said when i first read the book, it would’ve benefited by a second re-write before being published. But, i like the movie and so I liked the book.

Don Quixote

Another classic read. I did find it hilarious that the Author spent a good chunk of the second book complaining about Fanfiction of his own book... in the 1600′s.

The Princess Diarist

I listened this book instead of going to see TROS. worth it.

Smoke Gets in Your eyes: And other Lessons from the Crematorium

Non-Fiction, If you want to know the ins and outs of the funeral business and get told in an informative yet non-clinical way with lots of tidbits and history facts tossed in as well as a semi-autobiographical account of the Author’s life.

He was looking for Oz comic books and I brought up reading the first 14 books, and he’s like “There’s over 100 of them” and i was all “but all those are written by somebody else.” and he got all “they are still canon...”

If you want to know about the In//cel ideology in a classic literary form, this fits the bill. So much man pain.

I listened this book twice. I bought two Edda books thinking I’d get some extra content, but no... same book just different production teams and readers. Returned the one with the worst translation.

I’m new to the fandom and Destiel. What are the must read iconic fics for this pairing? I know every fandom/or ship has the legendary fic list and I was curious as to what Destiel’s were.

Welcome to destiel and thanks for the most dreaded ask a fic rec blog could ever receive!

Honestly tho, it is an impossible task for couple of people, mods of DFF or from any other popular blog, to make a public shortlist of “iconic” destiel fic without starting controversy and hurting someone. We all have personal preferences and biases that influence our selection and there is always that one really popular fic we personally don’t get. Then you have to take into account the sheer amount of destiel fic.

September 2018 will mark Ten Years of Castiel. That’s ten years of fic written and read by an ever changing fandom. Destiel has been among top slash pairings on AO3 for many years and as of today, there’s more than 73,000 fics on Castiel/Dean Winchester tag alone. That doesn’t include the many excellent and popular fics that never transitioned to AO3 from other platforms including LiveJournal or Dreamwidth and FFN. Then add to that the hundreds of popular fics that have been taken down by their authors.

Fandom interpretation of Dean and Cas and their relationship has evolved alongside canon material over these ten years as well. Previously iconic, popular or most talked about fics have been replaced with new ones that draw inspiration from recent canon. This is another reason why it is so hard to recommend “iconic, legendary” fics - even if the writing and characterization have stood the test of time, the fic still is lacking recent canon influences and fandom interpretations (bi!Dean with panty kink, looking straight at you!).

So, this is why we are not eager to make a must read, “iconic” destiel fic rec list that supposedly represents fandom preferences. Instead, here’s some pointers where you can find fics that are/were cherished by destiel fans, old and new, through the years.

On our side bar we have New to Destiel guide which is a good starting point for new fans. Please note that we made this guide years ago, so, it consists of older fics that were considered popular at the time. Still, the quality of writing is there. And if you are new to fic reading in general, don’t miss our New to Fanfiction guide.

DFF mods’ Personal Favorites tag. Yes, these are our personal favorite fics, not fandom “iconic” fics. But we are destiel fans and we have read many of the fics that are considered popular or classic in this fandom. These are the ones we liked the most. A biased selection, to be sure, but here you go. Don’t miss our anniversary Personal Favs posts, they have good chronological progression of destiel fic - Personal Favorites 2016 & 2017, Personal Favorites 2015, Personal Favorites 2014, Personal Favorites 2013. The very first Personal Favorites list from 2013 has a lot of fics that were considered popular or must read at the time. Following lists always included new, more recently posted fic.

New fans who are only now starting to watch SPN and are still catching up with all 13 seasons, may want to check out this recent ask about destiel fics that are set in pre season 7 universe. We’ve added all relevant fics from our blog, including those recently posted. Please note that we also have season tags on our Tags Page if you are looking for a particular season. We use SU (Supernatural Universe) tag for canon verse fics.

Three years ago we made a fic rec list suitable for younger fans. If you are new to fic reading and wish take it slow with smut, this is a good starting point.

If you are interested in destiel fandom history, older authors and their fics, and fic recs by fans who are not DFF mods, check out our Author Spotlights and Follower Spotlights.

Fic search hack - if you see the same (older) fic mentioned on multiple rec lists, it means it was well known. Same goes for note counts on our reviews and AO3 kudos. Beware, these statistics accumulate over time and don’t guarantee fic quality, only reflect its popularity. We also have a Guide to Finding Fics which can help you to expand your searches when you are already familiar with fanfic scene. We encourage you to find fics that suit your taste instead of trusting someones’s list blindly.

One more thing.

There’s one destiel fic that is considered very “iconic” and a must read for every new fan. This one. [link goes to our very positive review; we don’t name the title here to hide it from searches]. DFF mods do not consider this fic a must read. We think you can skip it and enjoy many other destiel fics. In fact, one DFF mod has never read it, because it has a Major Character Death, and I don’t think I’m worse for it or I should hand back my destiel shipper’s card. Yes, it is a very emotionally written story that will tug your heart strings very emotionally. Crying is almost guaranteed. But in the opinion of both current mods, it is not the golden standard of destiel fic nor does it have the best characterization of Dean, Cas or their relationship. Please don’t judge all destiel fics after a fic that happened to hit a fandom nerve years ago. In general, DFF tries to avoid voicing a negative opinion about any fic. We prefer “positive review or silence” type of approach. However, the situation with this particular fic in destiel fandom is so exceptional, that we thought it would be dishonest not to mention it. This fic gets constantly recced as the first one to read in destiel fandom and we think it is a very irresponsible advice if the reccer doesn’t advise to check the tags and Archive Warnings. Nothing is worse than your first fic for a certain pairing to be an unexpected Major Character Death fic. So, please note that there’s plenty of fans who don’t consider this fic “iconic”, or a must read.

“C’mon y/n! Is that the best you can do?”

You placed your sword if front of you, swinging it from side to side with skill. Keith was dodging each blow.

“I do not wished to be teased by an earthling. I know I can do better, I am just going easy on you.” You giggled, flipping, dodging Keith’s attacks.

Keith raised his eyebrow at your comment. “Try some of this then!” Keith jumped in the air, doing a flip, and landing in front of you. Unfortunately, he would of made it perfect had your leg not been out and tripped him, causing him to fall on top of you.

“Wow, okay this is awkward,” Keith looked everywhere but into your eyes, blushing at the fact that his body was pressed onto yours.

You smirked but as Shiro walked in you threw Kieth off of you, muttering, “Earth boys are so shy.”

You stood up to greet Shiro leaving Keith in a blushing mess.

“Oh crap, why do you like her? I mean like why?” Keith questioned himself in his head while staring at you.

He liked many attributes of you. You were a great fighter, you were kind, smart, gentle, and a real friend to the team.

After your discussion with Shiro you went to go take a shower leaving the two men.

Shiro walked up to Keith, trying to keep his smile at bay.

“So, you and y/n, are you guys a thing?”

“What? No, ew, stop, no we’re not a thing! Whatever!”

Shiro chuckled and placed a strong hand on Keith’s shoulder. “I think she likes you too.”

Keith’s eyes bugged out, “Seriously? You think she likes me?”

Shiro nodded, “She speaks very fondly of you, about your training, your attitude, heck even sometimes the way you eat.”

Keith giggled and wiped his forehead from the sweat. “Yeah, its an alien thing.”

“You guys would make a great couple. But all I’m saying is, its not bad to want something or someone for yourself. To have something to make you happy. Keith, its not wrong to feel happy.”

Keith bit his lip thinking and stood up, “Yeah, thanks for all of this. I’m gonna hit the showers. See you at dinner.”

Shiro gave Keith a wave.

After you struggled to turn on the shower for about 10 minutes which Hunk helped you with that. You got yourself ready for dinner. You wore what earthlings call it a t-shirt (which was too big for you), and some 80s sweats. The clothes that you had come in were ripped to shreds and then you remember.

You remembered that you wore your home planet attire when you first met Keith. Your planet was getting destroyed, your whole family perished by the hands of the Galran empire. Tears started coming down your face, you stared at your reflection in the mirror, wiping away the fog from the glass. You remembered you were struggling to fight, to stay alive. Voltron found you. They found you, all battered and bruised with nothing but the ripped up clothes you wore. They offered you to stay with them as long as you wanted. Truth be told you wanted to stay with them forever. They were like family to you. Keith was what made you smile everyday and not think about your devastating parents death. He made you feel at home, peace.

Tears started to come out more while looking in the mirror. You heard a knock and dressed yourself up quickly. “I’m coming.”

You opened the door and there was Keith.

“Dinner is- hey are you okay?”

You sniffled and wiped your eyes. “Yeah I am fine earthling. Do not worry about me.”

Keith gave a look of concern as you walked by him to go to the dinner table.

As you entered the room everyone greeted you. You greeted them with your proper hello from your home planet. That just made you feel homesick.

“Is something the matter y/n?” Allura asked eating her food.

You looked up and gave a fake smile. “No its nothing, I think I got what you call shamoo stuck in my eye.”

Every one laughed and you shrugged. “What are you all laughing at?”

Lance, across from you, smiled and said, “silly its not called shamoo, its called shampoo! Shamoo I think is a whale!”

You laughed at your mistake, cherishing these precious moments with your friends.

While eating dinner you picked up your spoon the opposite way and tried to pick up some of your dish to eat. Keith always sat next to you, helping you out with whatever you didn’t know.

“Am I doing this wrong?” You grumbled in frustration. “Keith I don’t think this, spoon? Is that what you call it, spoon? I don’t think this spoon works Keith.”

Keith looked to you and flipped the spoon the correct way. “Like this.”

“Oh, I see.” You dug into your food and filled yourself up.

During your conversations you learned some dishes that were popular to the Alteans. Your mind getting bigger with knowledge of every ones cultures. You learned Lance’s favorite Cuban dish, Hunk’s favorite dessert, Pidge’s favorite drink, Shiro’s favorite snack, and you even learned what Keith’s favorite sandwich was. You were learning so many things at the dinner table.

“Oh my god can we just for a second remember ice cream.” Pidge almost drooled at the thought of that.

Hunk’s face grew sad knowing that they didn’t have ice cream in the ship.

“What is ice cream?”

The whole gang put their attention on you. You looked at them oblivious to the stares and open shocked mouths.

“Wait let me get this straight, you don’t know what ice cream is?” Lance was the most shocked.

“Is it that obvious?”

Shiro smacked Lance’s head, and said with an annoyed dad voice. “Lance.”

Lance looked down and said sorry. Shiro went on, “Its okay y/n if you don’t know what ice cream is, I just wish we had some so you can try it. What it basically is, is its a frozen dessert, so its cold. Its sweet and its made out of dairy. There are many flavors. Ice cream is very delicious and I think you would enjoy it.”

Pidge pushed her glasses up, “you kinda sound like “How its made.”

You looked at your fingers, “that does sound very appetizing right now. I shall try it when we find it in your home town Shiro.”

Shiro chuckled and placed his utensils on his plate. “Y/n you can find ice cream almost anywhere on earth. Its that popular.”

“I am excited to try this dairy dessert. Well I think it is time for me to go to rest, but I will wake up tomorrow to train so if anyone would like to join me, you are more than welcomed to.”

Keith stood up as well and quickly, before any one got the chance to, said that he would like to join you.

You grinned and nodded. “Alright earthling, you shall train with me tomorrow.”

As you placed your dishes in the sink and went to get ready for bed, Keith had asked you to come to his room.

Your palms were sweating and you prepared yourself for anything. You stood up straight and walked all posh, gently knocking on his door.

“Y/n is that you?”

You smiled hearing Keith’s voice on the other end. “Yes, its me, Kie-earthling. May I come in?”

Keith then opened the door, your face almost bumping onto his. Your faces were just a few spaces apart. Yours and his breathing shared. Keith’s cheeks began to get red again, the second time the same day.

“Yeah, come in.”

You slowly walked in after him. Your hands were clasped together being nervous. This was your first time being in a boys room, actually this was your first time being in Keith’s room. You felt scared, frightened. Not because of Keith but because of yourself. You were terrified you were going to ruin this moment.

“You can sit if you want to.” Kieth pointed to his bed.

You sat down slowly, awaiting for Keith to talk first. His bed smelled just like him. You gave a light smile at the thought of Keith’s smell, and you cuddling up to him.

“I just, god I’m not good at this, but its about what happened-”

“What happened before dinner.” You finished his sentence for him knowing it was difficult for him to talk about others feelings.

“Yeah. Do you want to talk about it?”

You sighed and stared at your fingers. “I sometimes feel homesick. I miss my planet and miss the people there. The customs. But most importantly I miss my parents. I dream about them every night.”

Keith nodded, his face of sadness.

“Sorry you probably don’t want to hear any of this. I will get on my way then.” You stood up, wiping your tears that were anew away.

“No I want to hear, please y/n. Don’t shut yourself out, don’t pretend like we don’t care about you because we do. I do.” He said the last part quietly and bashfully.

You turned around abruptly, shocked as to what you heard.

“Y/n, I’m sorry about what happened to your parents and your home. You can come to me when you are hurt or feel like crying.”

Your mouth grew wide open and then you ran to him, hugging his chest and sobbing.

Keith soothed you, comforting you and rubbing your head. “Its okay, I’m here.”

He carried you to the left side of his bed and he entered in after you. You laid there crying into his chest, while he cuddled you. His protecting arms were around you, you felt warm and safe.

“I’m here y/n. I’m here.”

Your cries became sniffles and your head laid gently on his chest listening to his heartbeat.

“You okay?”

You looked up and saw Keith’s face. He had on a smile to comfort you.

You smiled as well, “yes I am now. How do you say, yeah, thank you. Thank you Keith.”

And did let us pick between the two items in our luxe box before, so that's a start. They have Boxyluxe now as well, that's quarterly. For 49.99$ a month. You get 9-11 items in that, with around a 300-400 $ value!!! It's wonderful! I upgraded to Luxe when they launched it. I've loved almost every thing I've gotten from them. And if I don't, I gift it. Next we have Ipsy. I've been subbed to them as well for a while. They're a beauty sub for only $10 a month. And each month you get 5 Sample size/Deluxe sample sized items in a cute lil bag! They also have different themes for each month. With so many possible items to get! The variations are endless! You can choose to see what they have picked for you each month, on their own app, or let it be a surprise. Have where you can take their beauty quiz and give info about yourself on your beauty profile...such as your hair color, eye color, and skin color, etc. You can let them know if you're not happy with the items you've been receiving, by reviews, quizzes, and feedback on the app. Each month, they match you with the 5 items they think you would like, based on what preferences you choose when doing your quiz. (Can select which items you like and don't like on it.) They're customization isn't spot on, but it's pretty good. I've liked almost all my items so far. perso-rant underneath and at first i intended it to be more light hearted but welp cant dive into myself without digging the bad stuff so just ignore this as rambling.

its night and im noisy and all but yknow part of the reason m/lb is such a healing show for me and i rewatch it every couple of days?

i cry everytime M.arinette's family is on screen pretty badly bc i get so envious all the time. i hate my shitty family (and often can relate to A.drien's ressentment) so just seeing such a /healthy/ family being often shown litterally brings me to tears. im like C.hat in the animan episode when he stares at the family picture with a sweet smile (another detail that stupidly make me cry who allowed th i s)

like. i dont relate to A.drien's relation to his family but some of the emotional effects is often a moment of "welp. mood." and being kinda sad /for him/ even if i can feel it for myself too. but then with M.arinette's family everytime they get to be on screen i realize how happy this sort of dynamic makes me and it makes me /so envious/.

like my mom is an artist and an excellent cook but she always barred those interests from me bc it was /hers/ and it was for /her ego/ and this attitude just killed every curiosity i had and remplaced it with a complete unability to care.

i used to bake as a kid but my mom was always shutting down everything i was doing, and if i was asking for help or recieps she would just tell le "it's a secret just watch " and never letting me know tf she was doing so i stopped lmao. everytime ive tried meals since it was only for myself and with a hard mocking from family and mom saying she had a better recieps and i should just let her do so i dont even try it often. (moreeven now that the kitchen is opened to the living room and they're super judgemental when im in it)

i was messing with drawings and paints in her workshop when i was a kid but she would always point out flaws and take my tools to correct it without telling nor showing me how and it killed it, it took me until my 14yo to start doing mindless doodles and then my breakdown when i was about 20 to seriously try back to draw and do art and try different tools (until my right hand made it impossible for me to hold a tool and the failure still feels yknow)

i wanted to sew things and make clothes (at the time for my dolls) but my mom was never letting me touch the tools (that we HAD since not only she made clothes but her mom actually had a fabrique shop. like. right next door. i think it became part of my mom's trauma hating her mom and refusing us to connect with her, more so with what happened when i was 7 and we lost contact with them but still, the damn irony. and i cant remember if my grandma ever let me close her sewing material but i was a damn kid after all) so this is another thing i didnt pursue

i wanted to pick up music (piano mostly) bc my uncle is a musician but my parents never wanted to invest in that because they already gave a piano to my sister (that i wasnt allowed to use) so ye that was dropped lmao

and i started to write when i was about 11 and it was that /one thing/ i didnt need help for from anyone, completely self taught, with my own ways and tools, and my parents were always dismissive of it, never listening to me, always telling me it wasnt important, that i should focus on something else, and after other circumstances that added to that i dropped writting around my 17/18yo and it had been painful to even try to write again since.(i came back to writing around my 20yo a bit before my breakdown but after it happened it started to die out and i felt exhausted and stopped after a few months and since then i've never been able to pick up writing again ay.)

(and im not touching the obsessive elements bc like- the fact she does it for her crush makes it different, but the sort of things she does? taking pictures and putting them everywhere in her room when she hyperfixates, making overcomplicated schedules and such? i litteraly do that with fiction. i made a freaking timeline for this show. i am currently working on organizing codex from d.a and an approval guide for christ sake. and im not talking about my multiple fandom shrines in my room and the fact i legit have one for m/lb made from pictures found on merchs.

or also the fact i have a lot of passions i'd love to share and seeing M. play video games with her dad for exemple makes me so bitter when all i get is backhanded insults from my parents when i bring it up.)

So sometimes i see M. and part of me is just in awe, loving everything about her. the other part of me tho... i feel... a bit robbed? like she's such a creative kid, she's incredible and she inspires me everyday, and i cant help but think how i would have adored her when i was a kid. (im not even kidding, as a kid i requested my mom a costume of black cat for h.alloween and a l.adybug costume for the carnaval. i have pictures of that at my dad's place sadly it kills me. also my room when i was a kid used to be covered with l.adybug stickers like. HELL my mom doesnt care about my interests but last year she bought me a M/LB winter callendar (bc its been years i was mentioning i wanted one, a selfish whim but oh well) and i had a huge double take bc i was certain she didnt remember me talking about this show- and she did not. when i asked her why, she legit told me "because she reminded me of you as a kid with your pigtails your obsession for l.adybugs". like!! i cant even stress how kid!me would have adored this show and especially LB./M.) (the pigtails too this time i have proofs around there i used to carry them all the time until i was bullied for it at school. (bullying at school instead of good friends also adds to the difference in question tbh lmao))

there is something so... weird into seeing the parts of yourself that you cut yourself from in a character, and see that the main difference is because of how the family (and bullies) treated those elements so drastically differently.

my family was always neglectful but differently than A.. the things i relate to with him is how he specifically still holds on hope that his father will do better at least just for one day and his reaction when he's left down saying he's just used to it. and like normal, not every kind of abuse are the same and all but i still relate enough to feel sad.

but M. is always a whiplash of feelings like i could have been this sort of girl in a better environment.

at 13/14yo she was already making stuff up, baking, designing clothes, doing art, she was doing so many things, even forgetting the superhero part. she was being happy being a creator at her pace and with encouragement. at 13/14yo i was starting to show concerning signs of d.epression because i was trying to handle my parents's divorces and the multiple trials that followed that /i/ had to handle by finding middle grounds, allowing some of my father's blackmail to avoid worse, and by litterally having to collect infos from mails everytime to prove against some of his arguments to the judges. and my sister refusing to talk to us for a year, which caused us basically to feel very bad thinking of the eldest sister who ran away from home, and having to handle my father's harrasment and emotional abuse of constantly belittling me (fuck this was the age he legit told me i would probably end up a p.rostitute so ye!!! fuck that!!!) andd the fact my mom was also falling apart from all of it on me and i was always supposed to cheer her up while i was having a hard time in a new school and new environment away from the very few friends i had and again feeling abandonned by my sister which freaking sucks after already had suffered that from our eldest one.

but M. makes me cry every. goddam. rewatch. its like maybe the ultimate wish fufilling story of just how i would have loved my family to be. of how i think i could have turned up.

and that realization hits so badly everytime.

there's a thing with my hyperfixations where i'll always find a way to tie it back to my traumas. i dont know if im pulling straws, or if the things are there. for having watched m.lb when it came out unfazed and only got hit with that realization upon rewatching- i feel it was more me realizing "there is something there that is touching me more than before" and having an introspection to get it.

and i think the difference is that- before my breakdown the characters and stories i related to where the eternal optimistic-yet-damaged "never give up!" type of characters. When things started to go downhill to my breakdown and since then the fictions that talked to me the most were all dealing with guilt coming from toxic environment that werent your fault per se but you pierceved that way. my way to relate were to characters who felt deeply connected to their guilt (peak being c.loud of f.f7 that even topped it with the deadly skin disease making him lose will to live (because ye that happened. still hate to watch out for that so ye), and memories issues, you would have told me at 13yo when i first watched that movie that this would be what i would relate to him about 7 years later i would have laughed at your face.), which translated with pushing people away and self destructing habits.

and i know i watched m.lb the first time around that time, when i was 20/21. and that may be why i didnt feel that. that my concerns were too elsewhere to realize that. That i was too focalized on how i felt like i failed by suddenly breaking under the pressure, having all the things i've kept burried kicking me out at once, and that i couldnt afford to be a burden to anyone. and it translated with me loving characters like that because in most cases their friends ended up reminding them of what was important - and sometimes just getting frustrated about your fav being as dumb as it forces you to pull yourself back together lmao. not always working but it was there.

now im 23. i cut ties with my father for about 3/4 years now, with all the shitty things that ensued out of the last trial where he sued me and his still-happening harrasment (sometimes silly sometimes scary). My mom and step dad are suffocating me more and more everyday. my health had become so disastrous i cant even manage to go school or find a job. And more than ever im frustrated and angry.

and i think it may be a shown of recovery? perhaps linked to therapy? of while i still have guilt of falling apart- /they/ are the reason i fell apart. and I'm yet to have proper apologizes for it. i grew furious at my family. of how much i feel robbed.

lately im so angry at everything i lost, was taken of, stolen childhood all of that- because of my parents, mainly. (hell even the bullying at school - in primary school it apparently started bc of gossips about why my eldest sister ran away from home, and in middle school it was first bc my parents insisted on sending me to private school where i was an outcast. which then had me truly embrassing the outcast persona that had made it impossible for me to be at peace in the two others middle schools i went to. highschool saved my social life tbh).

i think it's therapy and recovery that is making me shift the blame and feel so angry at them. so bitter. and suddenly i see in an innocent kid show a "what could have been". same starting personality, different people to channel this.

and this is. frustrating.

but it makes me love it even more. idk if its driving anything else than ressentment but at least for the time of an episode I'm in a bubble of a.lternative universe where i can forget about my life and feel satisfied at once.

like finding a piece of myself that i deliberately broke and burried to never think about it again, and realize far later how it missed to the whole, and how damaged this piece is now, but still is.

and there is something incredibly healing about that. i would never have thought there would be this much healing out of this anger and yet satisfaction. what a strange feeling.

fiction is funny that way. the things people can get out of it to deal with their own psyche are so different one person to the next.

it's just so weird for me to go from "i relate to the horrors this character went through" to "and fuck those horrors. let me think about what could have been if this didnt happen."

even moreso knowing i had this piece of fiction before and didnt approach it that way. there's a time and a mindset for everything. apparently now was the best mindset for me huh

so ye apparently i cant like something like a normal person and have to go on about how it connects to my deeply rooted traumas lmao.

anyway it's been eating me up for weeks now and it's 4:45am i have absolutly no impulse holding me back. if you sat through this piece of work im sorry. just needed it to get it out of my chest.

i'll go back to hugging my cheap-yet-lifesaving c.laire's l.adybug pillow now

I would actually point more towards Kaminari being the most probable one to react on screen, since he’s always got something to say in scenes like this one - and in general towards Kami, Baku and Sero being the ones to... confront? Kirishima specifically about this mission, not because I don’t want Mina to be there too! But generally as far as past arcs go Mina seems to be more part of the girls group than anything, and since Tsuyu and Uraraka were there too she might be between the ones reacting to Tsu and Ura more specifically (like she was the one to fawn over the two of them after their first day of internship) while Sero, Baku and Kami were the ones to react on screen to Unbreakable AND the ones Kiri spoke to about his insecurities to begin with... then again, given the flashback I do hope Mina will be proud of him on screen......... aaaahhhhhhhh I guess we won’t know until Horikoshi will finally show us, will we? ;u;

If you’re talking about emojis and not kaomojis then I’m with you on that lmao mostly cause I feel like Bakugou would be a really lazy texter but would at the same time be the type to dislike writing without capitals or proper punctuation and so on, so to avoid having to put actual effort into texting he just answers (when he answers) using one single emoji and thats it. It’s up to his interlocutor to understand what he meant with it. Up until now the only people who get it 100% of the times are Kirishima, Sero and surprisingly Todoroki.
