I was walking up the stairs tonight and thinking, as one does, about Bucky.

“Not a perfect soldier, but a good man” means that, much as Bucky Barnes thinks of himself first as a soldier, the serum worked because he is fundamentally a good man.

And all of HYDRA’s other cases of applying the serum in the MCU (Red Skull, the other Winter Soldiers) ended in failure.

Try as HYDRA might, the only way they could get a reliable supersoldier was to give the serum to a good person and then put him through a regimen of torture and mind wipes. 

Both of those things (what they did to Bucky, and the effects of the serum on HYDRA volunteers) attest to the fundamental wrongness of the way HYDRA treats people: they only see utility.  Their system breeds perfect soldiers, not good men.

“Well, aren’t you in a silly mood today,”

“Silly mood!”

“You’re being a crazy boy today then?”

“Crazy boy!”

Freddie snorted, setting down the knife he was using to chop up vegetables. He wiped his hands and stared at Roger with a smile, who had been echoing him all day.

“You do know I prefer cats to parrots, right?” He asked, which made Roger laugh.

Roger loved doing echolalia off Freddie. It made him feel all fluttery and his stomach sparkly. It was one of his favorite stims to do and luckily, his boyfriend didn’t mind at all. In fact, Freddie would start to use all these big fancy words he learned for scrabble, trying to get Roger to say them back. The more complicated, the more excited Roger got.

“Don’t be so pervicacious and hand me another tomato,” Freddie said, going back to the salad they were trying to make for lunch. 

“Don’t be so pervicacious,” Roger mirrored, handing him the ripest tomato he could find from the bag.

“I know you’re quite fastidious when it comes to veggies, so I won’t put any onions in it,” Freddie said as he sliced the tomato, a smile on his lips.

“Veggies!”

Freddie guffawed, assuming Roger would’ve said the big word instead. He threw the diced tomatoes into the salad bowl, bumping his hip against Roger’s. “You’re being too damn cute, you know?” he said, trying to focus on finishing this salad, but finding himself distracted by his gorgeous and very funny boyfriend.

Roger grinned, saying “I know,”

Freddie playfully gasped, eyes going wide. “So, the man can speak for himself!” He pulled Roger into a hug, kissing his face all over. Roger pretended to hate it, squirming and wriggling. “I can talk! I can talk!” he pleaded, but it only made Freddie kiss him more.

The two were giggling, Freddie finishing his barrage with a final peck to the lips, pulling back smiling. “I love you, Rog,” he said, his face going soft. Roger’s face dusted pink, mumbling back, “I love you, Rog,”

Freddie sputtered, letting out a heart laugh, pulling Roger in for a tighter hug. “Too adorable, dear! Too adorable!”

Nobody knows if they ever finished that salad.

Ty realizes just how long he wants Zane in his life and Zane promises the same thing.  Sugary sweet and absolutely perfect.

Decoy Boyfriend by tacoma_vibes

Zane agrees to be Clancy’s date to her sister’s wedding while Ty is away.  A great Ty-Michelle friendship fic, plus sweet TyZane moments.  

Two Sides of the Same Coin by nazgulofangmar

A continuation of the Brick & Morter Book series, this one a glimpse of the Christmas season through Zane’s eyes.  His love of his husband comes through again and again.  This series continues to make me grin.

fascinated by the concept of aizawa only ever getting blackout drunk so that he never remembers he’s been drunk at all. where’s the fic where shouta wants to kiss hizashi whenever they get drinks, but sober shouta is completely oblivious to the fact that he has already confessed his love for hizashi & made out with him in the bathroom of a bar. & not ONLY that, but he ALSO does this every second saturday of the month when they get drinks.

List of concepts that I wish they’d explored more thoroughly in Thor Ragnorak:

- How shitty Odin is as a father, and how poorly he deals with children who don’t conform to his designs.   (And whether that justifies the children to do the things they do.)

- The cost of building Asgard, that beauty and glory rests on destruction and a thin coat of paint.

- Culpability and second chances -- Does Odin’s past get to be forgiven?  Can you do bad things but still be presented in a good light after you change?  Did the other Asgardians end up forgiving Skurge?  What about the last Valkyrie -- does she forgive Odin for sending all of them to their deaths?

- Bruce Banner and the Hulk -- their friendships, their co-existence, and their desperate desire to belong and be helpful.  (Bruce lost 2 years of his life!   He’s worried that if he turns Hulk again he will lose himself!  And then he just ... goes for it???)
