"You cannot ask this of us! Tommy is the scientist not us. He wanted to be shot light years into space, not us. We cannot do it." I shrieked, pleading with my brother for validation, but my cries were met with oppressive silence. His gaze fixed onto our fallen sibling, Tommy, robbed of life right before he went off to do the only thing that put a smile to his face. All sacrificed for the contents of his wallet.
"Your brother represented a significant investment, we'd urge you to accept taking over his contract." The man besides Jake had said, completely disregarding all that I had said. "I'm sure he would hate to have all his hard work go to waste, knowing someone so close to him would be able to continue his legacy." The second man, besides me, added with a curt nod.
Outrage boils within me at the audacity of these men, exploiting the loss of one of us, former triplets, as leverage against us. How dare they use Jake and I with their clear motives of greed, revealing to us that our worth to them is nothing but a budget they refuse to abandon.
"It'll be a fresh start, on a new world. And the pays good, very good." they said staring at Jake and I. Before I could even say something in retaliation. Jake had spoken for the first time that night. "We'll do it." Disbelief swept over me as I locked eyes with him. How could he agree so easily? How could he not see that these men were just using us— he probably could, yet chose to turn a bind eye.
"Perfect, Y/n we will get your Avatar ready, they will mature on the trip there." the men said walking out, leaving me in there with Jake.
"How could you just accept like that Jake. You caved! Just like that? You know they are just playing us, and you still went along with it! Don't you see–" I started, but he interrupted me. "Maybe you don't see it, but I do. We are dirt poor Y/n! Struggling... This cash could change everything. We could finally be able to live." he pleaded, desperate for understanding. "I could afford to use my legs again." he confessed.
Tumblr media
While I was sitting there, next to my brother, a big whole blown right in the middle of our lives, I started having these dreams. Dreams that whispered secrets of possibility and untold wonders. Sooner or later though, you always have to wake up.
As I wake up, I glance around and it hits me, I'm in some sort of cryo pod. Flashbacks flood my mind, reminding me of the time before my life had got frozen, five years of my life, gone. The memories of Tommy's death, as if it was yesterday. 'We had to do it, so we could live." I think to myself, trying to find comfort in all of this.
"Rise and shine sleepy head." a doctor had greeted me as I exit the cryo pod I had spent the last five years of my life in. "We're here."
Tumblr media
"Exo-packs on! Let's go! Exo packs on! Remember people, you lose that mask, you're unconscious in 20 seconds, and dead in four minutes–" I stopped listening to what the sergeant had to say. Looking around my eyes landing on Jake. We should not be here, this is not our home. But what's the point in dwelling now, there's no turning back. I think to myself while putting on my exo pack, adjusting it so oxygen could freely flow through.
"When that ramp comes down, go directly into the base. Do not stop! Go straight inside wait for my mark!" the sergeant yelled. Standing up I walk over to Jake who was still seated waiting for everyone in front of him to leave the air craft so that he was able to freely able to deploy his wheelchair.
"Let's go special case! Do not make me wait for you Sully's!" he barks. Not bothering to acknowledge him Jake and I walk off the ramp and onto Pandora, our "fresh start." Taking a long look around I spot soldiers, back on earth these guys were heroes, marines fighting for freedom. But out here they were all just a bunch of hired guns, serving the RDA until their last breath.
"You're not in Kansas anymore, you're on Pandora ladies and gentlemen–" the man, Quartrich, continued. Tommy was meant to be listening to this, not Jake and I.
"Excuse me. Excuse me. Jake!" a lanky man rushes up to us after the "safety brief." "You're Jake right? Tom's brother." he asked looking down at him to meet his eyes. I just stare at him, does he just not see me here?
"You look just like him." he says eyes finally landing on me. "Sorry– I forgot he had mentioned he had two siblings, Y/n. I'm Norm. Spellman. Went through Avatar training with him." he says leading us into some sort of bio-lab.
As Norm continues briefing us on the bio-lab procedures, my attention drifts, drawn to avatars in three separate cry-chambers. I approach them, circling until I stop at a particular one.
"Looks like him." Jake and I simultaneously say, not once taking our eyes off what our brother could have been.
"No, looks like you. This is your avatar now Jake." Norm reassures him placing a hand on Jakes shoulder before moving to the last tube in the bio-lab.
"And this is your avatar Y/n. She had to get to the lab as soon as possible, since you know–" Norm starts, but I cut in, "–I wasn't meant to be here. Yeah, I'm aware." I finish, stepping closer to my avatar.
She looks so much like me, except for the obvious differences. Blue skin, a queue, and her sheer size. "She's beautiful." I whisper, touching the glass, feeling a soft heartbeat pass between us.
"The idea is that every driver is matched to their own Avatar, so their nervous systems are in tune... Or something. That's why they offered us the gig. It's insanely expensive... Is this right? Do we just say whatever to the video log?" Jake questions turning to Norm and Max.
"And do we have to share the exact same camera to film these things?" I interject, trying to nudge Jake out of the screens view.
"Yeah, you both need to document everything you see, what you feel. Plus, you're twins, who knows if you both are able to feel the same emotions or not. It's all apart of the science." Norm explains, retuning to his work.
"Plus it'll keep you sane for the next six years," Norm adds chuckling.
"Not if I have to sit next to Mr. Jarhead it's not." I remark, rolling my eyes but smiling slightly.
"Look who's talking Miss. 'I might not be a marine, but I sure can beat your ass,' " Jake adds, playfully pushing me.
This was one the first times I had smiled since arriving to Pandora. Usually keeping a stoic face, only smiling around my brother. My only family, the only thing from my past life.
Entering the link room behind Norm and Max, we're greeted by a voice. "Who's got my goddamn cigarette?" a redheaded woman demands, emerging from one of the link pods.
"Grace Augustine is a legend. She's the head of the Avatar Program. She wrote the book, I mean literally write the book on Pandora botany." Norm gushes. "Well that's because she likes plants more than people." Max adds teasingly.
"Well, there she is, Cinderella back from the ball. Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman, and Jake and Y/n Sully." Max says pointing at each of us in turn.
"Norm, I've heard good things about you. How's your Na'vi?" she asks, completely ignoring my brother and me, then begins to speak in a language I can only assume is Na'vi.
"Uh- Grace, this is Jake and Y/n Sully," Max interjects, trying to redirect her attention.
"Yeah, yeah. I know who you are, and I don't need you. I need your brother. You know. the PhD who trained for years for this mission? Yeah him." she snaps.
"He's dead. We know it's a big inconvenience for everyone, including me." I reply bluntly. There's no need to sugar coat anything that's already happened.
"How much lab training have you had?" she asks, looking between Jake and I.
"We dissected a frog once." Jake simply states.
"You see? I mean, they're just pissing on us without even the courtesy of calling it rain. I mean hell, the girl isn't even supposed to be here! I'm going to Selfridge, this is such bullshit." she rants, storming off but not before putting out her cigar.
"Well she's kind." I remark dryly.
As Jake and I arrive precisely at the time Max had instructed us to the day before, 0800, Jake and I hasten to catch up with Grace and Norm, who are already stationed at the link pods.
"You're late Sully's. You're in there, you're here." Grace remarks, gesturing towards two pods for Jake and I, and we obediently follow her directions.
"How much have you both logged?" she inquires, turning to the screen besides Jakes link pod.
"Zip, but I read a manual." Jake replies with a nonchalant shrug, as he wheels over to his pod.
"I listened to him read it out loud, if that counts." I confess making my way to my own pod.
"Tell me you're joking." Grace says incredulously, as she abandons her work on Jakes screen to approach mine.
"So you just decided to venture out here, to the most hostile environment known to man with no training whatsoever and see how it went? What was going on through your head?" she questions, setting up both mine and Jakes link screens for launch.
"Maybe I was tired of doctors telling what I couldn't do." Jake retorts, lying down in this link pod. I look at him wondering if that is why he spared no chance in me saying anything back when those men asked us to take the place of Tommy, because he was tired of the life he had.
"Keep you arms in, heads down." Grace instructs, pushing me into my link bed before I had the chance to ask Jake what he had truly meant.
"Just relax and let your mind go blank." are the last words I hear Grace utter before she seals my link pod.
Off to the side, Max examines scans of Jake and my brain. Studying the intently, he remarks. "Jakes brain is gorgeous, with nice activity. However we're detecting some resistance in Y/n's brain. She's unconsciously pushing back against the transfer, if this continues it could potentially harm the link." he informs, turning to Grace for guidance.
"Once the link is established, it cannot be interrupted. It will only worsen the issue," Grace states matter-of-factly, keeping an eye on my Avatar. Stubborn and resistant to change- that's Grace's initial assessment of Y/n, even after less than 48 hrs of meeting her.
Tumblr media
As my eyes flutter open, I'm greeted by a blinding light that pierces my eyes. A sharp ache throbs in my head, intensifying until two figures materialize before me- doctors, no doubt.
"She's awake. Y/n, can you hear me? Are you feeling alright?" the female doctor inquires, checking my expression for any sign of discomfort.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I reply, opting not to mention the pounding headache. Slowly, I sit up, only to find my hands adorned with five blue fingers.
"I made it." I murmur to myself in disbelief. Glancing around, I notice Jake already on his feet, a grin stretching across his face. He's standing, a sight I never thought I'd witness again, his legs finally functioning.
"Y/n you've got to see this. When's the last time you saw your brother standing tall, huh?" he exclaims, turning to face me while his tail knocks over everything in it's path.
Finally on my feet, I chuckle, "Bro, we're giants." The realisation hits me as I gaze at Jake and then towards the exit to find that he was already smiling at me– we're thinking the same thing. Tri– Twin telepathy perhaps?
Without a word Jake and I bolt, dodging Avatars engaged in a game of basketball, evading Norm and the two doctors running after us. We hurdle obstacles until a humanoid robot comes into view.
"Sorry! we both exclaim breathlessly, narrowly avoiding a collision as we skid to a stop near some flora. Catching our breath, we're approached by an avatar bearing striking resemblance to Grace.
"Hey, Sully's!" she calls out, closing in on us.
"Grace?" Jake questions, eyeing her up and down.
"Who else were you expecting numbnuts?" she retorts with a grin, with me laughing at the nickname Grace gave him.
As Jake and Grace catch up, I slip away into the area where Avatars are housed, searching for a change of attire. Opting for a top similar to Graces but in a deep shade of blue, that are about a shade darker than my current skin tone, pairing it with green cargo shorts. Hoping to blend in slightly to the flora and fauna of the forest.
Gazing up at the darkening sky, I realize it's nearly nightfall, meaning I had to delink for the night. "Alright, everyone, settle down! Lights out." Grace commands, ushering the remaining humans away.
"See you at dinner kiddos," she adds, flicking the lights off.
Lying back, I can still feel the remnants of the headache, but I decided to let sleep wash it away. Closing my eyes, I drift off into a peaceful slumber.

Chapter 4 - Becoming an avatar driver
●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡●♡
Jake watches the link bed statistics for a few moments to make sure everything was running smoothly before hastily jogging towards the room your avatar is.
“Brain activity looks good”
Said the scientist outside, watching your impending awakening through a glass screen. Jake entered the room having abandoned his gun and instead focusing on you, he looked worried but concentrated as he looked at your blue form. All they had to do was wait a few more moments.
—--------
The moment your eyes close your vision tunnels. You're surrounded by hues of blue, pinks and purples as you feel as though you're being transported across the thin barrier between subconscious and reality. Only moments later, you feel like you've been grounded once more, hitting this new reality with a mental thud.
Your body feels fresh, momentarily unnatural, then your eyelids begin to inch open, the harsh white light greatly contrasting the soft blue you had closed your eyes to.
This caused you to wince slightly and bring your hand to cover your eyes on reflex - your hand was blue. It was as if you had forgotten what you were doing and this strange change in colour startled you.
Realisation started to set in, you were blue, the transfer was successful.
As the harshness of the light subsided you look around the room further, seeing a few scientists all dressed in exo masks and baby blue suits but what stood out to you most was the only other avatar in the room, Jake. He stood out from the plain scientists and adorned bright colours with his skin which were further highlighted by the darkness of his clothing.
He smiled slightly at you, flashing those sharp canines.
The scientists soon huddled around you, asking you to sit up to which you complied. Everything seemed to be heightened. Your eyesight seemed to sharpen; your skin felt armoured and your hearing felt like you could listen to birdsong on the other side of Pandora. They asked you to touch your fingers to your thumb and then shone bright lights at your pupils - each test feeling more unnecessary than the last - they soon finished and you practically ripped the wires from your arms and stood up.
Your feet felt uneven and your head slightly light as you suddenly felt the affects of being 10 feet tall but it was a passing side effect, the grin soon returning to your face. Your tail whipped wildly behind you due to the appendage still feeling foreign, you knocked viles from their holder's and devices from their tables, it seemed the more embarrassed and nervous you got the more skittish you tail would get.
You look over at Jake, flushed with embarrassment, but he reassured you that when he first experienced his avatar he turned the whole lab against him.
After everything calmed down you took your first few baby steps to the world outside, Jake being there beside you for any assistance you may need. The world outside looked different without a mask, everything looked real now and the air fell crisper than the air on earth, everything felt cleaner. The gardens of the lab were almost military grade; they had training courts which had become dilapidated through lack of use and the overgrown gardens that you knew Grace had once loved. Everything seemed abandoned.
There were only a few avatars left in the compound but all were science geeks that had very little interest in things outside the natural life of this vast world; this meant the playground for all the other avatars had been cast aside out of everyone's mind.
Despite the dull nature of the desolate space, you enjoyed this new feeling, you enjoyed the featherlight tickles of the grass beneath you bare feet and Jake hadn't uttered a word since you'd come out, deciding it was best for you to take everything in before bombarding you with the bare bone rules. The two of you walked through the grounds, feeling the rays from the various midafternoon suns beating down on the secretive life on Pandora. The walk was calm and peaceful as you took in this new experience until Jake eventually broke the silence.
“You handled this a lot better than I did on my first test drive.”
He seemed reminiscent.
“I'm not surprised, you would've had a more fulfilling experience than me.”
You respond in a way so that you weren't mean and instead justifying his excitement, acknowledging how this experience was an extensive change for him both mentally and physically.
The two of you spoke a while longer about how it was that Jake felt when he was finally able to use his legs once more; through the whole conversation you allowed him to speak, letting him get everything off his chest as you were probably one of the first in a while to be sharing in a mildly similar experience. You felt special being trusted with such information.
However throughout the conversation you could tell that exposing his experiences like this was unnatural as he left out key information about his prior life and the hardships it held. Alas you summed this up to both his prior marine experience and then living in a proud warrior tribe, the man seriously couldn't get an emotional break.
Finally the two of you end up by the gate that led into the outside world of Pandora. The gate was thick and tall serving the purpose of keeping you in and whatever wasn't in out. It made you feel insignificant, this world had so much more life than you could currently comprehend, you had seen nothing yet you had seen a lot. Jake then turns to you and places and awkward hand on your shoulder, giving it a pat before dropping his hand - it was clear any other strategy than bossing people around was still strange to him.
“You'll do good here”
He said four such simple words and it still inspired hope in you, hope that you might be able to faintly follow in his footsteps.
“Thank you, for helping me and everything”
You were extremely grateful for this experience even more so for everything else to come, you spoke again.
“Are we going to see the forest tomorrow?”
You asked with hope but Jake looked at you nervously.
“We can make a basic start…. But Neytiri wants to inspect you before you go too far out”
He says, rubbing the back of his neck. You knew Neytiri was a fearless warrior and extremely protective of the people as well as the forest and rightly so. Although, Jake had said this as if it were something to be afraid of, now you knew you were going to have to impress this woman if you wanted even a shot at exploring the forests.
—-------
Jake walked you back to the hut were the other avatars sleep before bidding you goodnight and saying he'd be there again at 9 in the morning tomorrow, possibly with the feared yet respected Neytiri.
You collapsed into the specially made beds and fell asleep only to wake back up in your human body. You pushed the lid of the link bed open and groaned with the slight soreness of your muscles, against your better judgement you climbed out the chamber and looked around the room. Everything was the same dull grey colour with various pieces of technology the sight made you miss the vividity of the forests even though you had not experienced them.
You trudged your way through the bland corridors and into the communal eating areas once more, tonight's dinner was teylu and spartan fruit for dessert. The teylu looked unappetising as it was essentially a massive grub cooked amongst vegetables, the texture was soft with a tougher skin and it had a slightly sweet taste to it after you got over said texture. Dessert was much more appealing the purple skin being slightly bitter as you bit through to the sweet blue flesh, overall the conversation was the same as the previous night but with less tension.
Norm decided to pester you, interviewing you about your meeting with Jake, it's as if he was using you as a sponge for information that he could wring out later - in a good way of course. Something he found highly amusing was when he decided to ask if you had an attraction to Jake and when a slight crimson hue came to your cheeks you couldn't get the boyish grin off his face for the entire evening despite your denial. He was insufferable and tolerable at the same time, your only peace coming when he finally fell asleep in the adjacent hammock with you not too far behind.

Thank you everyone who has supported the story so far, I know it's not much so constructive criticism is welcome. Just also wanted to say that due to schools starting back up I won't be able to update in the week but will aim to update every weekend x

3 am smutty headcanons my brain just cooks up for me:
Mature themes, dirty talking, smut but in headcanons, fem reader, if you are a minor or feel uncomfortable with any of this, please don’t interact.
Characters: Tsu’tey, Quaritch, Grace, Jake Sully, Ronal and Norm
NSFW under the cut
Tumblr media
Tsu’tey, to everyone’s surprise, is an avid pussy eater, he loves to give you so much pleasure that you are just overstimulated to the max. He enjoys being so much in control with such little actions.
Both human and recom Quaritch is a full degrader, he loves to be so much in charge that it doesn’t matter what ridiculous and humiliating names he calls you, you are still doing whatever he wants.
Grace loves to be a soft dom and guide you through the journey while bringing the best orgasms out of you.
Jake is definitely a voyeur, so mesmerized by Na’vi bodies that he would let you get fucked senseless by someone else (Specially if that someone else is Neytiri) while he strokes his cock.
Ronal loves to be in charge the whole time, but she likes to be a brat tamer. She is a Tsa’hìk so probably she does a lot of foreplay with different plants or any other substance that gives tingling sensations on your and her pussy.
Norm enjoys being dominated. Specially by women. As a human he is a whiner and submissive. In his avatar body he purrs and probably is brattier due to his given strength and height. He gets overstimulated easily.

New environment - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
warning : slightly angst , fluff , emotional , comfort , making friends , nervousnes , feelings
next chapter , masterlist
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She could feel that it was no longer the earth on which she was. For this, the environment was too different, too pure, too nature-laden. It was completely pure, untouched and not as dirty as the earth.
The first step was hesitant and she held onto Jake's shoulder before moving her cane in front of her. ,,This is incredible," she murmured, and Jake let his gaze wander as well. ,,Yes, the machines are truly incredible," she heard him marvel and shook her head. ,,If you say so...what does it look like here?" she asked, trying to picture it somehow.
Besides a large stone area and some kind of wall because the noise was thrown back a little she couldn't make out much. ,,The base is big, there are machines and combat robots everywhere. It looks like a metal city with soldiers, mercenaries, vehicles... in front of it and it only takes a moment, the base is a well metal building" he explained tersely and she nodded. ,,And Pandora?" she asked but stopped when Jake stopped and a loud vehicle like a truck drove in front of her.
She felt him tense for a moment as if he had seen something that frightened him. ,,Is everything all right?" she asked him, but Jake just shook his head. ,,We'll be right there," he encouraged himself and her before they continued on their way. The comments of two soldiers were not lost on either of them, but they ignored them for now. Trouble was the last thing they needed for now.
Jake opened the door and Y/n helped him hold it open so he could get through. ,,We can take the masks off," she explained and they both took a deep breath. ,,It doesn't smell so clean anymore" she thought, slightly concerned, sniffing the slight smell of metal, oil, deodorant and science.
Even if the latter was not a real smell, she knew that they would both be right here. Walking side by side, Jake seemed to be amazed as far as she could feel. ,,At least someone feels comfortable" she thought and felt the metallic ground under her ball at the front part of the staff. Everything here seemed to be made of metal.
However, she also knew that it was better that way. A small hole or crack and they would all be dead in four minutes. An unpleasant thought as probably everyone here feels.
They went another piece before they arrived at a crossroads with different ways. ,,Sorry, but I have to discuss something about my brother. Do you think you can find your way to the introduction? I'll catch up with you," Jake said and rolled over to her so he was in front of her. Alone through here she heard her thoughts and looked around.
But the colors were dimmed not dark just not as bright a clear difference from outside. ,,It's okay, I'll manage, I'll ask if I need to," she said and gave him an encouraging smile before they stopped listening to his rolls.
Only when he was gone did she sigh and try to hear something. But it was too much to tell where. Well then, the old fashioned way she thought and started moving around hoping to find the hall or room.
She decided to go to the right, a path that led her further in. Not only was there less light from outside, but the smell of metal increased. This is not the science area, she reminded herself, trying not to bump into anyone.
What landed her on the search only conditionally. If she bumped into someone, she apologized, but most of the time they just answered with a quick ,,I'm sorry" or not at all. She was not stupid, she knew that here were not only halfway honorable soldiers but also mercenaries and other people with whom one did not want to mess. But she was not discouraged, even if it was ridiculous.
And it could not protect her from the dangers out there, maybe it gave her a little respect. With her free hand she went to her neck and pulled out the dog tag so that it was visible over her top. Maybe someone here knows him? the thought crossed her mind before she continued. Her hopes went up even as her surroundings became a little quieter.
Where it was quieter, there could only be the canteen, the sleeping quarters or the meeting rooms. A chance of three but she would have to take the risk. Going further through it, she quickly realized that it was not the canteen.
There was no smell of food in the air and no loud talking. Only the chambers and the meeting rooms remain she thought and ventured further ahead. Soon it was so quiet that she thought she had arrived at the base in the basement, if there was such a thing.
Her free hand moved along the wall and after a few more steps she had a first doorbell in her hand. Taking one last deep breath in and out, she slowly opened the door and stepped inside. ,,Hello, is this where the new arrivals are being briefed?" she asked, trying to guess what was waiting for her.
It was a medium sized room, there was definitely a window and the colors were a little brighter. It smelled of leather and wood as if someone had made something. Before these smells mixed with an aftershave.
An interesting smell that aroused her interest but slowly she doubted that this was the meeting room. ,,Hello is-" she wanted to ask again when she bumped into something hard with her cane. Astonished to stretch out her hand, she had hardly noticed how the smell had become stronger.
Slowly, fearing to touch something wrong, she felt fabric under her fingertips and the warmth of a body underneath. ,,You are more than just wrong" she suddenly heard a male voice say and she felt the muscles under the clothes tighten slightly.
Looking up slightly at the man, she took her cane away. Her expression showed surprise and her heart beat faster for a moment as the colors in her vision shone brightly.
It was not the same as when she was outside talking to her mother or teaching. No, it was completely new and she didn't know why she was seeing it so brightly. The light blue mixed with white and green. That's how she perceived him and couldn't quite interpret it.
Slowly she held out her hand to him. Before she said, ,,Excuse me, I hope I'm not anywhere I'm not supposed to be. I'm new here and well, I'm looking for the briefing, I'm Y/n" and gave the unknown a slight smile. He must be at least a soldier she thought, still seeming to feel his muscles. But where exactly was she? Suddenly, the unknown man grabbed her necklace and pulled it towards him.
Involuntarily, she took another step towards him to prevent the chain from breaking. ,,You did not serve," he stated, sounding more disappointed than pleased. ,,No I didn't, my father did, I'm a biologist" she defended herself and reached for the dog tag. She felt him open his hand, making it easier for her to accept. She hated it. ,,Thank you," she said snappishly and gave him a warning look.
But he ignored it rather than taking it seriously. ,,You're the new one from the crazy ones," he said amusedly and walked past her. ,,The crazy ones?" she echoed and turned to him. He's just leaving, she thought indignantly, biting her tongue to keep from grumbling at him.
A sigh crossed his lips before he opened the door. ,,The biologists, doctors, nature lovers," he enumerated and she rolled her eyes before walking towards the door. ,,Oh, and to answer your question, Colonel Miles Quaritch, the man in charge of your security," he said, holding the door open for her, which she would have otherwise hit on the way out. She didn't have to look at him or say a word to realize that he was grinning at the whole situation.
She would have loved to fly straight back to earth. Wordlessly she walked past him, but as soon as she was standing in the corridor she knew she had to rely on him. Sighing, she unfolded her blind staff and walked next to the colonel to finally get to the place where she originally wanted to go. The two remained silent.
On the one hand she didn't know what to say and on the other hand he thought the same. ,,How long have you been here?" she asked when the silence became too uncomfortable. ,,It's called Colonel for you long enough to know that if you go out of it you die," he warned and she heard his dissatisfaction about his unnamed title clearly.
,,If you say so...Colonel. Besides, I made it here from Earth, I don't give up so easily," she said and looked at him for a moment. Before she continued to walk beside him and they walked along the corridors to the large room. She could hear the acoustics changing and people talking.
But as soon as she got closer, the voices stopped, and she realized it wasn't her fault, but rather Quaritch's. He's tense, she thought with a grin as she leaned against one of the tables, ignoring the looks of the others. A slight smile was on her lips as she closed her eyes for a moment to take in the sound.
Quaritch walked up and down the tables. He talked about the dangers of the planet, the inhabitants, the new environment. Not everyone wants to kill you, she thought, looking up at him, unable to ignore the fact that she had never seen her colors glow so brightly since she had been in the room with him. Maybe it's just the environment, she thought, but her inner self told her otherwise.
Taking her eyes off him, she heard the sound of rolling and looked to her left and recognized Jake. The colors much darker than Quaritch's she gave him a smile. ,,Hey" she said softly and Jake nodded before they both listened to Quaritch until the end.
But all the time she couldn't deny that no matter how long or short she looked at him, the colors were always so beautifully bright. ,,You made it here after all," Jake noted happily as the two made their way toward the lab area.
Past the many seemingly endless soldiers that came towards them. ,,Yeah, you could say that," she said, avoiding his gaze. ,,Why did something happen?" came the question almost as quickly and she thought that he would raise an eyebrow. ,,I'll tell you some other time," she said and was about to continue talking to him when she suddenly heard a voice behind her. ,,Jake wait" said a man and although she wanted to stop Jake continued his way.
,,I'm Norm Spellmann" he introduced himself and somehow tried to find a place next to the two without running into the other soldiers. ,,I'm Y/n," she said curtly, looking reddish and brown tones as she looked at him. ,,I knew your brother, we were at Avatar training together," he said, and she was surprised that Jake had left that out of his conversation.
Even though she found it a bit tactless to bring up these sad memories again for her friend. The three of them walked a short distance until she heard a door open and she got Norm's confirmation. ,,The bio lab is our new home and the place where we will probably spend most of our time," he said happily and began to introduce herself to the others.
Jake and Y/n also looked around and the colors changed to a bright white and gray. Medically laboratory sterile, she thought with a grin, and walked behind the two of them, careful not to knock anything over.
It was much quieter than in the hallways, a pleasant atmosphere for her ears and eyes. ,,That's where the connection chambers are," she heard Norm say, but walked behind Jake, who turned left into a larger open space in the lab. ,,Wow, they're really big," Jake said in amazement, and she wished she could see what he meant.
,,What's there?" she asked them both, feeling around with her hand before touching cold glass. ,,These are our avatars, created from our genes and samples from the original inhabitants," Norm said, and now she knew approximately where she was. She had read and heard about the Avatar program.
She knew it was a highly expensive and yet extraordinarily fascinating project. ,,What do they look like?" she asked, looking at Jake who was next to her and also looking at the tank. ,,Blue and big," he said, but Y/n shook his head. ,,No, I mean do they look like you?" she put it right and Jake looked at his avatar.
She said sadly, and she put a hand on his shoulder. ,,No believe me Jake he looks like you that's your avatar now" she heard Norm say who had come to them with a doctor.
The four of them stayed with the avatars for a while before they all continued on their way to the linking chambers.
She heard a whirring or routing sound and carefully groped around and felt capsule-like beds next to the railing to her right. She heard how apparently one of the capsules opened. As soon as a woman shouted, ,,Where are my damn cigarettes?" before someone ran up quickly and apparently gave the woman her cigarettes.
A moment later, she smelled a faint odor of smoke before she knew who was standing in front of her, Jake, Norm and the doctor. ,,Doctor Grace Augustine, it is an honor to make your acquaintance," she said, holding out her hand to the doctor. ,,Doctor Wilder your work has been interesting but I doubt we need you and this Marine" she said and Y/n knew the older woman could be more than brusque and pulled her hand away.
,,Besides you Marine I don't need you I need your brother and you Doctor Wilder are welcome to get to work examining the plants" she said and was about to leave when Jake approached her. ,,I can't do that, he's dead, I'll take his place" he explained curtly and seemed to have convinced Augustine.
,,All right, I want you to be here tomorrow at eight o'clock and let the biologist find her way around first, I don't need anyone ruining my samples," she said before heading for the door to talk to the leader.
,,She doesn't seem too pleased," Jake obviously noticed and the others nodded. ,,We'll just get on with it," she muttered, looking around before using her hand to identify and feel the objects around her.
The entire lab was large and it took her several hours to find her way around the connecting chambers. Although she did not yet have the people and everything else in her head, a picture slowly opened up in her mind.
Jake and Norm also helped her and told her how things looked here in case she didn't calculate something. It was nice help, help among colleagues and maybe even friends. Quaritch she thought and her hand clasped her necklace.
No, he had helped her because he thought she was weak and helpless. She knew that as soon as one saw her stick or looked into her eyes there were two possibilities. The first, and for her, the most common.
People were uncomfortable with her as if she were an alien. Some didn't talk to her at all, helped her too much, or talked so loudly that she couldn't understand if they knew the difference between blind and deaf.
The other rarer kind were those who took it, ignored it and helped her only when she asked. It was a simple relationship between her and the second faction. She did not feel helpless and yet she felt respected.
,,Y/n are you coming to dinner in the cantina?" she heard the voice of Jake, who was waiting for her with Norm at the entrance to the junction chamber. ,,Yes, I'll be right there," she called, rising from her seat before turning off her dictation machine, on which she left her impressions for her studies and walked slowly to Jake and Norm.
On the way to the kanteen, she folded up her cane and oriented herself by the sounds of the two men.
Much easier and more efficient as long as it didn't get too loud. But that changed in the Kanteene it was filled with talking, laughing and eating sounds which is why she put herself between Jake and Norm to get a little more security.
The three of them coordinated themselves into one of the last tables in the back rows and sighed when they finally arrived. ,,This reminds me of the sacrifice time in high school," she heard Norm quip, and she could hear a certain amount of pain.
,,Yeah, but we're the cool ones now, believe me," she said, giving him an encouraging smile. ,,Was high school that bad for you?" Jake asked, getting a confused look from Norms. ,,Were you the athletic guy or the class clown?" she countered, taking a bite of her food.
Jake ran his hands over his hair, slightly embarrassed. ,,Well, more like the truant and helpful justice seeker," he confessed, and the three of them smirked.
She let her gaze wander dark tones before her eyes which was due to the soldiers. ,,Are the higher-ups sitting here too?" she asked, taking the last bite before looking at them. ,,No, they wouldn't sit with us here, they probably have their own room," said Jake, who had more experience than the others in the military.
The meal continued quietly, but they talked for a long time until the three of them went to sleep. To their surprise, the science team seemed to get really small rooms.
In contrast to the normal sodalists and mercenaries who slept in raised beds in large rooms, she had a small room. From what she had met and explored she had a relatively large comfortable bed. A desk with a chair that was connected to her research and on which was her data.
A closet and a shelf. Her favorite thing about the whole thing, however, was the adjoining bathroom, which bordered her room through a sliding door. A more or less spacious shower, toilet and sink with a mirror. ,,This is quite good" she said and began to unpack her things and slowly settle in.
Or to make herself a little more comfortable for the time she was here. She didn't know exactly how much time had passed as she reached for her sleeping shirt. A few hours probably and yet she was not tired.
The feeling of success in her dreams and wishes was satisfying. Pandora...I am really on Pandora the thought went through her mind and she looked at the photo on her small nightstand next to her bed. The photo that showed her with her mother and father together.
She was about to undress when there was a knock on her door. Who is it? she asked herself and put the sleeping shirt on her bed before she went to the door and opened it. ,,Miss Wilder, I'm sorry to disturb you so late, but I'm supposed to take you to your recruiters," she heard the familiar voice of Quaritch.
The colors brightened and she couldn't hide her surprise and yet this small joy that was in conflict with the reluctance. She leaned against the doorframe and said, ,,Quaritch, I didn't know you were a gofer," she joked, deciding to tease him a little. She had not forgotten his action with the chain.
,,Colonel still Miss and I'm here to make sure you don't get lost again" he did the same and the two of them looked at each other for a moment before she walked past him and the two of them started to move. ,,What is it about?" she asked after a short while due to the silence that fell between them.
,,It's about the promise to see again" he said and looked at her. ,,My eyes" she said and also looked at him slightly upwards. ,,I will see again" was just one of the many thoughts that went through her mind. ,,Do you know which model?" she asked and Quaritch shook his head before realizing that she didn't see it.
,,No, now get in here, we're here," she heard the commanding tone before he opened the door again before they stepped into a larger room. She heard the whirring and beeping of a machine.
She knew the sound from somewhere, but she couldn't remember it. ,,Wilder, glad you're here," she heard the voice of her actual recruiters. ,,Why all this fuss about eye models or a check for an operation I could have picked up myself," she said, folding her arms in front of her chest.
Despite this, her heart was beating fast with anticipation. When silence fell between the people, she gulped. ,,Is it not an operation or a model...how am I supposed to see again?" she asked, taking a step toward the two men.
,,Your father Y/n never wondered why the government or the RDA never paid you and your mother proper compensation" he started talking and she didn't like where this was going. ,,They paid for my studies, that's all, what does this have to do with my father?" she asked, looking from the recruiter to Quaritch.
,,He knew of her passion, but also of her suffering," he continued, and at the word suffering she tensed slightly. Suffering, the word kept echoing in her head, she hated it. ,,Get to the point," she demanded, looking at them both in warning of what they were not telling her.
,,Your father wanted us to give you something you always wanted instead of money or other help". ,,Now tell me," she demanded and took another step towards him. ,,Your own Avatar," he said, and it hit her almost like a blow.
In disbelief, she stepped away from him and clutched her necklace. ,,What?" she muttered, looking back and forth between Quaritch and the other, confused and upset. ,,Come," Quaritch said, putting a hand on her shoulder before taking her further into the room.
It was warm, yet his grip was heavy with a hint of command. She felt goose bumps coming on her skin. But whether it came from the colonel or the things she had just experienced, she didn't know.
The whirring and beeping grew louder until she reached out and moved her hand in front of her. It's a tank, she realized in shock as she touched the round glass and felt the slight chill behind it. ,,Why me?" she asked, still confused and upset, her grip on the chain tightening.
,,We were going to give them protheses for the protocol, but someone was convincing," she heard the soldier hiss, and she looked at Quaritch, who had been watching her the whole time. Quaritch...he stood up for me, the realization flashed through her mind.
And the colors as they looked at him seemed so incredibly close. She would have liked to thank him. ,,It would be a waste of resources, and I'm tired of leading you through this," she heard Quaritch confess before she realized that he had given her her avatar.
She felt her emotions surge through her body, her hand trembling slightly as she still grasped the chain and leaned her other hand against the glass.
Tears had gathered in her eyes as she saw bluish colors as she looked to her avatar. This small hope in her was painfully shattered by him. The thing with her father, her avatar. It seemed too much to take in.
And yet she cursed herself for her naivety in believing that she would not be a burden to the colonel. ,,Fortunately for you, I will be able to see again tomorrow," she said warningly, but the pain and fragility of her voice was clearly audible before she walked past them. ,,Thank you Colonel," she said as she stopped at the door before opening it and walking out.
"You know what?! Get out of my house Y/N!"
You and your mom were thick as thieves, the two of you always had a good and close relationship. Both of you would always hunt together or make new woven mats while discussing the latest gossip in the clan.
You felt like no one could ever sever the strong bond both of you had until He came.
Your mother has been dating her boyfriend, Niptu for almost six months, and ever since he stepped into her life your mother's attitude changed towards you. She used to be loving but now she barely pays you any attention. Both of you use to carve time out of the day to spend some quality time together but now all her time and energy is consumed with her new relationship.
The strong bond both of you once shared began to weaken and as of this moment it was officially broken.
Your mother expressed to you how Niptu was going to move into your marui and you were against it. You never liked him because he was always mean or rude towards you. He always made it seem like you were in the way of his and your mother's relationship.
You have voiced your opinions about him to your mother plenty of times but she just brushed your words off, she didn't believe a word you said about Niptu.
"You're kicking me out?!" You shouted while the feeling of anger began to stir with you. You knew your mother did crazy and outrageous things but this... this was the icing on the cake.
"Yes, I am! You can't respect me and you keep talking nonsense about Niptu! He is a good tutan and if you can't see that or agree with him moving in you will be moving out!" She yelled as she begin to shove your things in a woven basket.
"You would kick out your own child for some tutan you haven't even been dating a year?! H-How could you do this?!" As you watched your mother continue gathering your things it was like you were looking at a different woman.
You couldn't even recognize the woman in front as your mother anymore. She was treating you like a random person, she was treating you as if she didn't carry you in her womb and birth you.
"MY CHILD would be happy that their Sa'nok is happy but you!" She turned around and faced you with fire in her eyes "You can't even be happy for me! You choose to speak ill about Niptu, you choose to not be happy for us!"
"Sa'nok how could I be happy for you when he treats me horribly?! Do you even care that he's rude to me? Do you even care that sometimes he hits me?!"
Whenever your mother left to run an errand around the village she would leave Niptu home with you. You hated when she did this because every time Niptu felt like you were 'out of line' or doing something he felt like you shouldn't be he would hit you. He would call it 'disciplining you' but you didn't see it that way especially since it was for no reason.
"Niptu must've had a reason, you must've done something to provoke him to act that way" she spoke in a nonchalant manner, as if it didn't bother her one bit that her boyfriend did those things to you.
"Provoked him?! Sa'nok you can't be serious... is this tutan blinding you this much that you don't even see him hitting your daughter as a problem? You think that it's my fault that he does that to me?!"
Instead of your mother responding to you she just shoved the woven basket contained with your belongings inside towards your chest, "Leave! Now!"
As you felt the material of the basket scrape against your skin you just stood there in shock, shocked that your own mother was actually putting you out of your home.
As you and your mother continued arguing you could hear Niptu walk in, "Ah! Hello my love!" your mother ran over to him and gave him a warm hug as if everything was normal.
Niptu could see the bag in your hand and an evil smile spread across his face, "I see your sa’nok finally took my advice" he said with a dark chuckle. Niptu has been feeding your mother's words, telling her that you were causing a drift into their relationship and that you would have to leave or he would break up with her.
"Took your advice? Sa'nok what is he talking about?!" As you look between your mother and Niptu with confused eyes begging for answers your mother finally decides to speak up.
"Niptu told me that you should leave…"
"And you actually listened to him?! You let him warp your mind to think that I should leave? That I'm causing a 'drift' in your relationship?!"
Years ago your mother would have never acted like this, she would have never been kicking her daughter out into the dark forest to fend for herself but now... now things were different. She wanted to be and feel loved by a man in any way she could so if she had to do some things to continue receiving that love she did it.
"Yes I listened to him, he's the tutan of the house now" As your mother spoke about Niptu it just stroked his ego and it made you even more upset at the situation.
"Tutan of the house? Please he's not even half a man, he's a boy! I wish Sempul was still here, you would have never done—" Your words are cut off by the feeling of pain on your right cheek. Hearing you speak of your father triggered something so deep in your mother that the first thing she decided to do was slap you across the face.
As you felt the sting of her hand, tears welled up in your eyes. That was the final straw for you, you knew that the woman you called 'Sa'nok' wasn't there anymore.
"Don't you ever speak of your Sempul in this house again!"
"Fine, I won't because I'm leaving just like you wanted! I don't want to ever speak to you again" You put your woven basket behind your back and stormed out of your marui... well your old mauri.
You began wandering around the forest, trying to figure out what your next steps would be. You knew that you needed to find shelter and a new home so you began to look for an empty marui to rest your head for the night until you found something more permanent.
As you stumbled upon an empty marui you saw your best friend Kiri walking up to you with a concerned look in her eyes.
"y/n are you okay? What happened?" She took notice of the dried tear stains on your blue skin and how it looked like everything you owned was shoved into your woven basket.
"It's my sa'nok..."
Kiri wasn't oblivious to your mother's treatment toward you. Sometimes both of you would sit together in the forest and you would rant to her about your mother, hoping that your best friend could give you some advice, and just be a listening ear.
"What did she do now?"
"S-She kicked me out today..."
Kiri's eyes went from glazed with concern to slight anger. As she spoke her tail began to swing behind her, "What?! What do you mean she kicked you out?!"
Kiri never liked the way your mother treated you since she started dating Niptu. She thought it was disgraceful for a mother to treat their child like that just because they have a love interest. She never could understand why your mother did the things she does and you couldn't either.
You begin to tell Kiri everything that happened a few moments ago, from how your mother yelled at you to how she kicked you out just because of Niptu. You brought up how you only mentioned your father and she decided to raise your hand and slap you.
As Kiri heard you tell her everything that occurred her heart was broken for you, "y/n I'm sorry that happened to you" Kiri pulled you into a hug and wrapped her slender arms around you hoping she could make you feel better.
"Your mom should have never kicked you out for some stupid tutan, your her child for Eywa's sake!" Kiri was visibly upset about the whole situation, she would have gone to your mother and given her piece of her mind but she knew being with her best friend was more important.
"Are you okay y/n? How are you doing?"
"I'm fine... I'm just glad I don't have to be there anymore. I can't deal with her like I use to Kiri, I've had it up to here with her" You use to be able to tolerate your mother's behavior when it was just minimal things but now it's just too much for you to handle.
Kiri then realized you were in need of shelter, "So where are you going to sleep tonight? Where are you going to live?"
All you could do is shrug your shoulders, "Kiri... I don't know yet, I'm just going to stay here tonight and figure out everything else tomorrow..." you of course didn't have everything figured out right now since it just happened and you were still in a little shock about everything that occurred.
As you pointed to the empty marui in front of you Kiri began to look inside. It was dark, dirty with dust covering every surface, the sleeping mats inside were so old that if touched them they would probably deteriorate.
"No y/n you can not sleep here, it's not safe. You can come to my marui"
"No Kiri I can't do that, you have a family and I don't want to impose or anything" You didn't want to burden her and her family with your problems.
"Come on you spend the night all the time, this will be nothing different other than it's a longer stay. My parents won't mind they love when you come over and my siblings already love you. Everything would be happy to have you." Kiri kept giving you reasons, hoping you would decide to come with her. She didn't want you to be out here all alone when you could be around people who care about you.
"Okay, okay Kiri you convinced me I'll come..."
A bright smile spread across Kiri's face as she heard you agree, "Let's go, my sa'nok should have dinner ready any minute now" Kiri grabbed your hand and began leading you to her marui.
As you walked with Kiri you were so glad that you have a best friend like her. You always knew you could count on her and in this moment it showed. You knew that she had your back no matter the situation and would help you out in any way she could.
Recovery
(Platonic! Tsu'tey x Avatar! Reader) (Platonic! Jake x Avatar! Reader)
They wake up to find they have nothing to recover from but are still constantly scolded for being reckless. Mo'at shares news that has them thinking of sharing their origins. (4.3 k)
Sorry this took so long I got sucked into another fandom for a bit. Also sorry that this prolly doesn't make sense bc it's 2 am rn and I fell asleep multiple times while writing this. Not proofread.
Tumblr media
Nothing hurt. They realized that when they opened their eyes. No pain. No feeling. Nothing.
The hospital room looked bland.
"Tommy?" The name could only be whispered, and it sounded wrong as soon as it left their mouth.
No.
Slowly, they regained enough thought to realize.
They shook their head. Not Tommy.
Jake lay on a small portion of the bed, head resting on his hands. That's right. Jake. Not Tommy.
They tried to move again. This time they went slower, watching to see if Jake would wake up. He didn't. Even as their bare feet hit the tile and they made their way across the room.
But he did when the door slid open the barest inch, flinching awake. He called out their name, immediately realizing the situation. He called out again, panicked, turning to see their figure by the door.
"Are you- you're walking. You're alright?"
They could see the tiredness on his face. Lightening only slightly when they moved forward, watching them carefully as if trying to assess the damage they took.
"They said you'd be very disoriented when you wake up, you should sit down."
He guided them back to the bed. "They also said to press this button to call the doctors in-"
"Can we not?"
His finger hovers over the button.
"I mean, can I have a moment before all the doctors start rushing in and all."
"Of course, kid." A pause. He fiddles with the armrests of his wheelchair. "Do you remember what happened? The doctors said you might not since your uh... condition got activated. They said you went into combat mode."
"It's blurry," they admitted. The stillness of their thoughts concerned them. Mind awaiting a battlefield where the silence would allow them to process information quickly.
In the small hospital room, there was not enough information to process.
It felt silly. Like they were a toy. Combat mode. Condition. Illness. They felt so, formed. Like everything they were was carved from a blank slate and turned into a monstrosity. Each chunk removed. Each crack made. No thought behind each decision. None of it created by them. Just something directed. Something made. No choice but to lie back and take the beating. No choice but to live as what others have created.
Their thoughts falter when Jake begins to fill the silence. Talking about how Grace hovered over them and checked on them often, even fought multiple medical doctors. How Norm cried when he heard the news. How Tsu'tey didn't leave their side any longer than a few minutes.
And of their avatar.
"They brought it here to check the damage, Grace even said something about surgery. They got in a few scans before uh..." He watched them carefully as they nodded along. "Before Selfridge said no. Said you could handle a little poison and sent you back."
"He wasn't wrong I guess," they interrupted quietly, "but I'm surprised Grace went along with that."
"She wasn't gonna," he looked out the window, "but Mo'at said Eywa wanted you at hometree. Whatever that means."
Silence. Their head hurt from it.
"You've been taking your lessons?"
"Yeah. Nothing we could do but wait, try to learn."
They nodded. "You need to learn faster."
"What?"
They turned to him, taking in the slight confusion. He looked to be debating if the coma fucked up their brain further before they smiled. "I've had my first clean kill."
"You have not." He gaped.
They shrugged.
"That's awesome, kid! Look at you being the first ever avatar to get a clean kill." He ruffled their hair, pausing for a second. "I'll be the first to get an ikran."
They laughed. "In your dreams, white boy."
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
They decided to just call the doctors tomorrow. Or have them find out when they come to check on them. Whichever came first. Jake had fallen asleep on the side of the bed again, and they decided to pull him up to rest on it since they'd had more than their fair share of sleep.
The door opened and closed as they left, leaving behind Jake on the hospital bed who once again dreamed of flying.
They didn't exactly know what they were doing. The hallways were abandoned and dark.
The building looked completely deserted. The cafeteria empty as they walked past. Where were they going?
Everything felt blurred again. Muddled. Like their feet barely touched the floor and if someone saw them right now, they would be see-through. But still, they continued on. Walking to a destination they didn't know.
The next thing they knew, they were opening their eyes again. When had they closed them?
It took time for their eyes to adjust due to the dim light, like in the hospital room. Except this light looked clearly different. It looked alive. Streaming in through the gaps between the floor and tarp, they could swear the light pulsed softly. Steadily. A heartbeat unheard.
Why were they in their avatar?
They checked their wounds, remembering the palulukans. The arrows. Their first kill. All that they told Jake in the hospital room, eventually lulling him to sleep.
Their body looked fine. Aside from bandages around their waist. Nothing hurt here either.
Someone called out their name.
They turned, body tensing, arms raising.
"You are awake?"
"Tsu'tey?"
A breath of relief. A prayer to Eywa. A hug.
They hugged back, the warmth momentarily overtaking their mind.
Tsu'tey broke the hug first. He pulled back and looked them in the eyes. "Idiot child."
"Wow, big thing to say to someone who saved your life, hey?"
He gently slapped their forehead. "If you do something as reckless that again, I will kill you myself."
They smiled. "You're welcome."
"I will get Zeyko."
They wanted to say no, like before with Jake. But this was different.
Their avatar actually sustained physical damage. A lot of it. So they watched Tsu'tey go, using the time to finish assessing their wounds.
The bandages wrapped all around their back. Healing paste still looked fresh on some flesh wounds around their wounds. Other than that they looked okay. At least those stupid experiments had some merit.
Tsu'tey returned quickly with Zeyko, who brought a basket of something.
"You are finally awake, you will be a formidable warrior."
They returned the hug when her arms wrapped around them, avoiding the bandages on their back.
"But I will take you down myself if you continue to be so reckless."
Zeyko insisted on checking the bandages to see if anything split when they got up. Tsu'tey left to give the two privacy.
Her hand brushed against their side, and even with their back facing her, they could see the look on her face. The same look she always has whenever they'd get hurt.
"You always heal so quickly", she pointed out, "is it because of the Skypeople blood in your veins?"
They shrugged, not really in the mood to get into the whole child experiment by a government agency thing.
Zeyko seemed to understand, putting more paste on their back before rewrapping it. "By tomorrow I will be able to take this off. Try not to get into worse trouble by then."
They said goodbye as she disappeared through the flap, Tsu'tey reappearing not a few seconds later.
Tsu'tey insisted that they rest 'even in your other form' he said, laying them slowly down on the bed. "Nothing hurts?"
They shook their head. "How about you? You hit your head pretty hard."
For a moment, they think they spot a flash of embarrassment. "I am fine."
"Those palulukans felt particularly fierce," they said, letting Tsu'tey drape the blanket over them. "Why were they near that spot anyway? It's pretty rare for them to go so far, right?"
He stopped patting down the blanket, taking a seat beside the bed. "Mo'at has declared it a sign. A warning." His eyes find theirs. "Of what, we are not sure."
Maybe it was presumptuous. To think that they would be enough for Eywa to send a warning to the people. But they think it anyway, only for a short moment as Tsu'tey stands.
"Now go, you should rest."
They nod, knowing they can't argue their way out. "Goodnight."
A reply is heard faintly when they close their eyes, traveling through the neural link, and opening them to the sight of the pod's padded insides.
No one is in the lab still. They make sure to turn off the pod from the control room, not even remembering how they turned it on in the first place.
Jake is still there on the bed when they return to the room. He seems to not have moved at all.
They watch him, studying the bags under his eyes. If they'd been asleep three days, they were sure he hardly slept at all. At least from how tired he looked.
The silence didn't bother them now, having been calmed down by friends. Enough for their mind to deem it safe and exit combat mode.
They find the stack of yogurt cups in the fridge, smiling to themselves. Jake could not have filled the tiny fridge by himself. Not with three days worth of food. Nine meals.
They counted the cups which were arranged in neat lines. Norm's doing, no doubt. 23 yogurt cups.
The sight reminds them of hunger and it is as if the thought triggers their body, their stomach rumbling.
The first doctor who opens the room early in the morning is met with a strange sight. A marine sleeping in the hospital cot. The patient sleeping in a wheelchair, resting their head on the bed. And multiple cups of yogurt stacked by the bedside.
Grace and Norm visit when the news spreads that they are awake.
"You had us scared for a second there kid," Grace says warmly, even while watching the nurse who is trying to stick a needle into their vein for a blood sample. Her piercing gaze making the poor guy tremble.
Jake had also glared when he saw the needle, but someone called him out. They heard something about Quaritch.
Norm speaks up, also glaring at the nurse. "I'm surprised you aren't still sick. How did you eat 23 cups of yogurt in one go?"
"I was hungry." They shrugged with one arm, trying to keep the other still. "And I like yogurt."
"Never doubted that second part."
"How was your little rendezvous yesterday?"
They look up at Grace, who smiled. "You don't think we have cameras in there? How else will I know if anyone spits in my coffee?"
They smile slightly. "It felt okay. The body's fine. I had a few wounds but I'm getting the bandages removed tomorrow." They left out Zeyko and Tsu'tey, and Tsu'tey's words about the palulukans being a warning.
The three nodded, listening intently.
"What else?" Norm asks when they don't continue.
"What?" A pause. "I have a scratch on my right arm- or left. Right, I think-"
"He means your other injuries."
Another pause. "What injuries?"
The two look at each other, and Norm decides to explain. "When we brought you here you were in really rough shape. You had deep gashes in your back. I thought I could see your spine."
"What else?"
Grace replies this time. "A broken left arm. Shattered your wrist almost completely. You had a linear fracture on your skull."
"Is that bad?"
"Not fatally, but you should have been closely monitored."
"I think I was," they said. "Zeyko said she checked on me often."
Grace nodded, looking thoughtful. "That's nice."
"But-" Norm intervened "you're saying you only have scratches now? How is that-" He paused, realizing they all knew how. "Is that possible? Physically?"
They all turn to the nurse who has finally finished drawing the blood. He seems to realize they are asking him. "It's- it could be. With a regular human, no. But since it's your avatar and it's..."
Not regular, they assumed.
"It's possible especially since the Na'vi have stronger bodies."
Norm nodded, which the nurse took as a cue to go, leaving quickly and almost dropping the blood vial.
Another doctor came in soon after, declaring the fit to leave. Their avatar had taken all the injuries anyway.
Grace lead the way to the lab and Max hugs them upon their entrance. "They didn't tell me they were saving their yogurt cups, I only found out yesterday so I could only get two."
They smile. "It's fine, thank you."
"It's not fine," Norm said, standing beside Max. He stage whispers, "they ate all the yogurt as soon as they woke up."
"I did not."
Norm raised a brow.
"It was a little after I woke up, technically."
Max only chuckled, patting their back and prepping the pod. "Doctor cleared you for this?"
"'Course she did." The familiar feeling of gel padding immediately relaxing them. "They think I'm indestructible."
They don't miss the concerned glint in his eyes when they say that.
"But I have a feeling if I ever start a pod unauthorized again Grace will put that to the test."
Max continued pressing more buttons, grinning. "And Selfridge would be furious if he found out. Guy's been extra insufferable lately."
"An asshole's gonna be an asshole."
He smiled as the lid closed, and then their eyes were opening again.
They get up, shaking their head lightly. The light is shining through the gaps again. Morning light.
It took longer to take the doctor's clearance than they thought. They spotted the bed beside them, empty. Perhaps Tsu'tey got tired of waiting for them to wake again.
When they open the tent flap, they gaze upon an unfamiliar part of hometree. Somewhere secluded. Of course, they thought. A sick skyperson can be nowhere near the people.
Even so, they take a step outside. The moss under their feet feels like home. The sunlight on their skin.
The animals way below, their calls making it to their ears, which twitched as they tried to pick out specific sounds.
The forest looked welcoming, but they settle for the branches, not wanting to stray too far.
They lay on one of the branches. Breathing in. Breathing out. Watching the light filter through the leaves.
Like that, they could forget the blur of memories they couldn't quite remember.
When they stayed still long enough, it felt like they could hear it. Feel it. The energy that connected everything. The power. Each breath borrowed. Each life tied to an end.
It felt nice to fill their head with such thoughts and feelings, instead of war or injury.
As if out of spite, a shot of pain rips through their leg. It makes them shoot up and grab at it. But it is gone as quickly as it appeared.
A reminder, they think.
"There you are."
They turn, seeing Mo'at approaching them. They stand, bowing and greeting her.
"Oel Nga'ti Kameie, Tsahik."
She returned the gesture. "You are walking so soon after your injuries, does it not hurt?"
"No."
"And yet I saw you hiss as if in pain just now."
Their eyes find the ground. They didn't lie but they had yet to explain anything about her condition to any Na'vi. Not Mo'at or Zeyko or Tsu'tey or Neytiri. No one.
"It is different, I am well."
Her piercing eyes study theirs. "If you say so. Sit, we must talk."
Oh, they think as they follow her words and sit back down. She's here to talk about the warning.
Just as they think it, Mo'at confirms.
"Eywa has told me of your bravery in response to her warning. She has talked to you."
They don't remember anything like that, but somehow they know the answer is yes.
"The warning, she cannot say what of. It will impact our future too strongly if we know."
They nod along. Were they enough to have that big an impact?
"She has told me something else."
They look up at her, and she is watching them with a softer gaze. She says something that shocks them. Halting their thoughts. Like the information got stuck between the cogs of their brain.
She leaves with a smile. They don't know how long it is until they stand and make their way back to the tent. But her words ring in their mind.
"Unbelievable", they think aloud.
"What is?"
They look up. Tsu'tey stands in front of the tent, two bowls in his hands.
"Nothing. Is that for me?"
He nods, motioning them into the tent. There he tells them to sit down and hands them a bowl. Talioang meat. Their favorite.
"I've been told you haven't been hunting lately."
Another flash of embarrassment. Brief, but clearly there. "I did today."
They nodded, taking the carved husk and gratefully scarfing down its contents. Tsu'tey ate carefully in contrast.
Still, as soon as their mind wandered they were pulled again to those words. Mo'at had really surprised them. They went to tell Tsu'tey when he spoke first.
"I would like to show you something today, if that is fine."
What could he be planning to show them? They obviously hadn't seen everything the forest had to offer, but what was so new that he had to ask to show it to them?
"Sure, that'd be nice."
They ate in silence, Tsu'tey taking the bowls after. Just as he left, the flap was opened, and in came Jake, grinning. Sweat stuck to his skin and he breathed heavily. It was clear that he ran from one of Neytiri's lessons to check on them.
He kept his questions quick, looking like he kept a mental count of the seconds to know when he should head back. And he did after around two minutes, calling out a "just wait! I'll get my clean kill in no time!"
Zeyko arrived just a little after that, all soft smiles and lilting laughs. She carefully unbandaged them as if they were gravely ill, inspecting their back to make sure the wounds were healed. Then she excused herself, talking about a direhorse accident that needed to be attending to.
When she left, they exited the tent again, going back to the branch they'd previously laid on. Maybe they should've felt restless, having had three days of deep sleep. But all they felt was tired.
It scared them to sleep. Maybe they would go back into a coma if they did. Was that how those worked?
Even so, as they stared up at the leaves drifting with the wind, they found themselves falling asleep.
This time, Tsu'tey found them. Sleeping on a patch of moss bathed in sunlight. He almost didn't want to wake them. But they woke without him doing anything.
Eyes blinking open and brows furrowing in confusion when they see they are outside.
"You should not be sleeping here, you could fall." He extended a hand. "It is a long way down."
The two began the walk back to the tent in silence.
They brushed the sleep from their eyes, shaking their head as if rattling their thoughts back into place. After a while, they realized they would have already passed the tent, looking around and seeing that they were being led elsewhere.
Tall ferns brushed against their arms, getting thicker and thicker as they went.
Tsu'tey kept to a small track, woven through the plants with care, looking back every so often to check that they still followed.
It felt familiar. And they realized it was. They had taken this path once before, hadn't they?
They were about to ask when they nearly bumped into Tsu'tey's back.
"Sorry."
He said nothing and stepped aside to show a particularly large fern leaf, then he pulled it aside to reveal an alcove.
An indent in the tree. Wide and deep enough to lie down comfortably.
He guided them to it, and the two sat there in comfortable silence. After three days, they could finally continue their daily activity. Watching the eclipse take place.
Darkness slowly but surely enveloping the forest. Casting its shadow over everything.
There is a moment of true darkness. A short moment, before the world lit up again. A light of its own. Scattered colors shining and almost twinkling.
An entirely different world in just a few seconds. All from the comfort of the alcove, which shielded them from the cool night air.
They had a lot of questions but voiced none of them. Silence felt fitting. They didn't understand the significance of the alcove, but they felt like he had shown them something intimate. Like he had told them something that he had never told anyone else. And they wondered why he would do that.
Because they saved his life?
No that wasn't it. There was something else.
They don't know why. But something in them is reeling to talk. To finally tell someone what they are.
Maybe because of Mo'at's words and how, if they didn't tell anybody now, telling them later would be more of a betrayal. What were Mo'at's words? Prepare yourself, you wil soon have your iknimaya.
"Do you remember when Zeyko asked why I bleed so much?"
He glanced at them, confused by the sudden question, but nodded anyway. "You said people do not enjoy hearing why."
"They don't. It's not - it isn't something they understand easily."
This seemed to pique his interest.
They begin to wonder if they should say it. But if they didn't, and what Mo'at said would happen happened. Without anyone knowing that they were unnatural. Only shipped to Pandora for the barest chance of them being useful in keeping the Na'vi in line.
So they do say it. Starting from the beginning. From how they were made from DNA of fallen soldiers. To how they were raised in a bunker, exposed to experiments that burned information into their head. To how they were freed, only to end up in a larger cage.
How the RDA bought them like a piece of equipment. Right off the government's hands. Hoping to make use of their knowledge in the fight starting on Pandora.
How they built them an avatar and locked them in it for days to experiment on their human body, and vice versa.
All the horrors of their past.
How they all lead to them on Pandora to fight against the people, not learn from them as they had been doing.
When they finished, they went quiet. Allowing him time to process. Preparing themselves for the chance of him pushing them over the edge to get rid of another annoyance.
This was selfish of them after all. To share their sob story and tack in the addition of them being a possible weapon against the people.
"You should not have come to my aid."
They balk. What? It's as if he hears the question and continues.
"I am a warrior. A warrior should protect, not be protected."
They don't protest, too confused by his words.
"You said you are a warrior, you are not. A human child cannot be a warrior." The words come with a frost to them.
He stares ahead now as if he is still replaying the sunset and eclipse in his mind. Turning back time to that moment in the forest with his arrow against their chest. Maybe he imagines he lets go of the bowstring, and the pain is eradicated then and there.
"It is hard to believe. You are all smaller, softer, and yet violent and cowardly. Hiding away in metal contraptions." Oh. They understood now. "How can a skyperson, a child, risk their life for another? If it was that easy-"
His words were confused. Anger and confusion. Anger and sadness. It all led to this. The teaching. The begrudging acquaintanceship. Skypeople had taken too much from him. Too much. And yet they dared give him something in return. They dare save him.
"You lie and you steal and you cannot be taught. But a child-" He shakes his head slightly. "Why is a child a warrior? Why does a child risk their life?"
They dare let a child save him. A child, of all things. After all of it, they dare send a child to soften his heart.
And maybe he felt angry at himself, too. For needing to be saved. For being caught by surprise. And for letting their little ploy work. For feeling scared for the skyperson, as if their people hadn't killed his without mercy.
This is why he hated any sort of relationship. They always had to be complicated by love or hate or anything.
Granted, this surely presented itself as an outlier in its complexity. The next Na'vi to lead the people growing to care for the one the enemy with an inkling to destroy them.
The people he hated so much. The one he tried to treat like a sibling after many months of resistance, thinking that after those months they are different.
But they are not.
They are the same.
They are worse.
But in his moment of betrayal, he thinks of the night before.
When they woke up, he stayed to watch them go back to sleep before leaving. Walking to the tree of voices.
He talked to Sylwanin there. About the dreamwalker. About how he had grown to care for them and felt conflicted. Like he had betrayed the people.
She comforted him, but when he asked for advice she gave her usual words. That others wiser than her still lived. But she said something else.
"Children are children because they are growing. Grace Augustine told me that, it seemed so obvious." She laughed softly. "Perhaps your skyperson can grow to be one of the people. A child should not be blamed for what they were born to be, do you not think?"
He looks at the child beside him. A child. He had been thinking of them as a child the whole time, why did he suddenly think differently when they told him? As if they intentionally deceived him. And the People. The Tsahik. The Olo'eyktan.
"A child should not be blamed for what they were born to be," he says, repeating her words in the cool air, "or for what they have endured."
A/N // Ahhh I'm so excited about this chapter!!! Been waiting to write it but also I haven't jumped it as soon as I was done cus I was kinda scared but whatever I'm writing it now :D
Speaking Na’vi
‘Thoughts’
*whispering*
*mini time skip, like a small location change
Tumblr media
As you got up you did your morning routine and put on some comfy clothes since you'd be in your avatar most of today doing your first field mission.
You walked out of your room and headed to the mess hall to eat with the other science people. You saw Norm there already, same with Jake, they were talking a little bit. You were glad because you got the impression that Jake didn't like Norm a lot.
When you sat down you heard what they were talking about “So these na’vi people, are they that dangerous?” Jake asked with a bit of uncertainty in his voice, “well I mean if a bunch of aliens came to earth you bet your sweet ass we’d protect it or at least a few hundred years ago we would” you answered for Norm, beating him for once “yeah, there actually
very friendly people and only defend their land” Norm added.
You all finished your food and went to the link pods, you went to the same one as yesterday and went in, and when you opened your eyes again, you woke up in the lodge where the other avatars slept.
*
You rolled to your left and grabbed some clothes you'd wear on the expedition. A green RDA jacket and a black shirt underneath and some shorts. You also had some knee pads on since you knew you'd be in the mud and dirt a lot with rock around. Then walking over to Grace you waited for Norm and Jake, when they finally came over you all went over to the tarmac where all the Sampsons were.
There you saw the same women from yesterday, the same with the soldier who you and Jake met. She introduced herself as Trudy Chacon and the soldier as Lyle Wainfleet.
And with the introduction out of the way, you all boarded the Sampson with you and Jake on one side, Grace and Wainfleet on the other, and Norm in the cab of the Sampson
Tumblr media
[LOCATION- PANDORAN FOREST]
The Sampson flew over the water with flying animals around it, they were purple with yellow arms under them, as one screeched at the Sampson you looked at it with amazement. As Trudy kept flying, you'd pass giant trees that no doubt had been there for centuries, housing different animals and supplying food to the fauna around. Flying into the canopy to start getting closer to the ground, Trudy spotted a Stermbeest herd on the right
“Got it thanks,” Norm switched from his position with you and Jake to where Grace was to see the herd “Looks like a bull, a dozen cows, and some juveniles,” Grace informed Norm as she pointed at them. One let out a mighty roar as you passed by. The Sampson then flew over a waterfall, to which you and Jake cheered like the two of you were at a theme park.
*
After a time the Sampson landed on the ground, and you saw a few deer-looking animals run away. You swung your feet over the ledge preparing to jump off after Jake. He and Wainfleet surveyed the area to make sure that there were no threats around, once they deemed it ok they lowered their weapons. Grace went over to Trudy, telling her to turn the Sampson off, as you all would be staying a bit. She walked over to Jake and noticed that Norm didn't have his pack and sent him back to get it, she also noticed that Wainfllet was heading with them
“stay with the ship! One idiot with a gun is enough” She was referring to your brother, you wanted to be a little mad but it was kind of funny, you also had a gun, just a small one though nothing like the big one Jake had. “You're the man, doc” was all you heard as you four trekked into the thick forest.
As you were making your hike to get supplies you heard something loud in the trees, Jake looked up pointing his gun at the noise. It was an animal, they were blue with yellow stripes on its body. It had two upper arms and four forearms.
“Prolemuris, their non-aggressive,” she said trying to calm Jake down, eventually she walked in front of him and pushed his gun down, getting impatient with him “Relax marine, you're making me nervous” and continued walking to the storage house
*
As you walked closer, you could see the house in sight, it looked rundown like something attacked it and then left it to rot.
"So uhh, how do we know the Navi aren't here?" Norm asked, nervous about running into one on his first day out here "Oh, I'm sure they're watching us right now,” when Grace said that Norm stopped to look around
“Oh so their good hiders huh? Bet they’re wicked good at hide n seek” you joked, “oh yeah, once I thought I lost a kid till she popped out from the rafters like a sting bat” she laughed at the memory
As you walked into the building, Grace informed you all that this was the school, but now it was just storage
“The kids were so bright and eager to learn” She picked up a book and dusted it off “They picked up English faster than I could teach it,” she finished as she put the book back.
You looked around a bit, looking at the desks with little arts and crafts on them, you went over to collect some stuff you'd need like a rock hammer, pick ax, probing rod, and a hand lens. You went over to Norm and Grace and filled your pack with other important stuff.
When you got over there you saw Norm pick up a very old book called the ‘Lorax’, it was a book about saving trees, warning people about deforestation, ‘So much for that,’ you thought
“Oh yeah, they loved this one, the sting bats keep knocking them down'' you looked up to see some on the rafters then you saw Jake messing with some stuff when he also noticed them, he was startled and you laughed walking back over to him.
“I keep hoping someone will come in and read them,” she said with such sorrow “Why don't they come back?” Norm asked as he asked, You pulled Jake out of the gaze of the stingbats, Graced sighed “The Omatikaya” she paused and learned as much as they needed about us”.
You and Jake noticed something weird about the blackboard, it had bullet holes in it, and looked like it came from the doorway too “What happened here.” Jake asked seriously, you were curious as well, who would shoot at a school?
Grace looked up at you two near the blackboard, she looked annoyed and even a bit angry “Are you gonna help us with the gear or just stand there? We've got a lot to do”
The two of you looked at each other, sharing knowing glances, then walked over to help them
*
As the expedition officially began, the four of you went off deeper into the forest. Norm would often just stand there looking around, probably looking for na’vi people, and Jake would tell him to keep moving, you would giggle at this whenever it happened.
“And here I go” Grace had put a rod into a root “Scanning” Grace and Norm finally found what THEY were looking for, while you had to wait a bit, you wanted to find rocks by the river to see how the water affects the erosion time. So in the meantime, you just stuck next to Jake.
Grace and Norm were studying some roots from a tree, looking at how the signal transduction worked with the surrounding roots. Jake sighed as he was already bored, he turned around and went to walk off, so you did too. The two of you began to walk away, Jake must have found something interesting because he tilted his head, and walked faster.
The two of you came across a clearing of a spiral plant. You walked deeper into the clearing and Jake touched one and it shrunk, the two of you stepped back and looked at the other two, to see they didn't notice.
He walked to the other one to touch it and it shrunk the two you giggled, and he looked over to you, silently asking if you knew what it was “Umm I think it's a Helicoradian” He nods at the information and goes to touch one more, but suddenly they all go down in a chain reaction, revealing a startled Titanothere it roars at you two, prompting Jake to raise his gun up, you only opened the holster to yours ready to grab it if need be.
It charged at you two causing you two to step back, then Grace comes on the throat coms
“Don't shoot, don't shoot you’ll piss em off” Graced instructed Jake, the animal roared again this time taking a few trees down with it, “it already pissed off,” Jake said to Grace “Jake, its armor too thick, trust me” Grace reasoned with Jake, he listens and pulled his gun away.
The beast smashes a few trees in its way “It's a territorial threat display, do NOT run or he’ll charge” You look at Grace with a ‘hell we supposed to do then’ face cause you knew you couldn't win.
“So what do I do? Dance with it” “Yeah, the hell do we do” you both shot back at her which she replied “Just, stand your ground” Norm looked scared out of his mind, more scared than you two, his tail going haywire, while Grace was calm no doubt for you three.
Then the Titanothere finally charged at you two, Jake went at it yelling so you did too. The two of you screaming seemed to scare it off, you and Jake laughed, even taunting it a bit
“Yeah come on whatchu got” “that's right, who's in charge here bitch!,” you turn around to find the real reason it backed off, your eyes go wide and you stood frozen,
“Yeah why don't you go back to your mommy, you punk ass bitch” and with that, it finally turned around back to its heard, Jake kept taunting it till you pulled on his sleeve when he turned his head he saw you frozen in fear, he looked up to see a snarling Thanator
The beast roared and jumped over you guys, putting itself in between the Titanothere and you. It roared at the other animals and then faced you, it seemed to lock in on you in particular
“So what about this one, run don't run, what!” Jake looked at Grace as you slowly backed away, an uneasy feeling rising in your stomach, “RUN, DEFINITELY RUN” and with that, the two of you booked it the other way.
You jumped over a branch and weaved through some bamboo-looking plant, it would get stuck a few times but it would quickly find another way through to you. All you could hear behind was the beast snarling at you and the breaking of wood.
You and Jake eventually found a tree with an exposed root that you two could hide under. As you two leaped in the animal leaped after you clawing at you both, you crawled deeper in trying to avoid its claws, but it just kept following you. When you had enough room you pulled out your gun, both you and Jake firing at it, but it only seemed to piss it off.
It stuck its head in the hole and ripped Jake's gun out of his hands and threw it down somewhere, then it borrowed its way in, you and Jake crawled out and ran past different plants.
You were in front of Jake when the Thanator jumped out and grabbed his pack. He unlatched and fell to the ground hard, knocking him out when he noticed him and started towards him.
You noticed this, and you began to shoot at it unloading the remaining bullets and trying to get it away from your brother, cause you sure as hell weren't losing him too.
“OVER HERE YOU ASSHOLE, OVER HERE!!!” your yelling and shooting seemed to alert it and it chased you now “shit” You turned around and dropped the empty gun and unloaded everything on you, only leaving the 2-pound hammer you could use later.
You kept running till you got to a waterfall, and you jumped off just in time, cause if you had hesitated you surely would have been dead due to the beast.
As you were falling you prepared yourself to dive. When you went underwater you were swept away by the strong current, hitting rocks on your way down the streambed, but you managed to swim up to the surface, though you were still struggling a bit to stay afloat.
You could still hear the animal screaming after you as you grabbed onto a root sticking out, you looked over at it, seeing if it could just jump in and get you, but when it saw it couldn't it just screamed at you. You just stuck your middle finger up in retaliation.
You dragged yourself to the riverbed and just plopped down and rolled over on your back to catch your breath but it was difficult when something wanted to poke at you. You sat up and grabbed whatever was poking you to see it was a river stone, the thing you came here for, to study. Oh the irony
You laughed a bit, from exhaustion and annoyance of the shitty day
[LOCATION- LINK BAY WHEN JAKE GOT KNOCKED OUT]
Jake's link pod opened as he awoke from being knocked out in his avatar body. When he realized where he was he demanded to talk with Grace, or hell at least Norm, someone who was down there.
When he got in contact with Grace he yelled into the com “Y/N IS STILL OUT THERE! WHERE ARE YOU RIGHT NOW!” “WHERE ARE YOU!” Grace yelled back “I'm at the lab right now, the animal picked me up by my pack, and I dropped down to the ground and I woke up here” “ok do you know where your avatar is? If we can find yours we might be able to find Y/n” grace explained to the panicked Jake
When he was finished explaining where they could find his avatar, he sat at your link pod, praying you’d come up, so that he could comfort you if you were scared, but you never did.
He'd look at your vitals to see your heart rate was high meaning you were on edge out there, all alone. ‘Damn it, why couldn't it have been me, why her god’ he yelled at himself in his head, he felt so guilty. Cause if your avatar died while you were still connected it could cause major trauma to your psyche.
He had heard about a former avatar driver, he killed himself while connected and was basically a zombie after. He didn't want that for his baby sister, he’d never forgive himself.
“JAKE, Jake are you there” Grace's voice comes through the walkie talkie “Yeah I'm here, did you find her!” panic and hope laced his voice “no, but we found your avatar. Listen Jake Trudy says she has to fly back, meaning we have turned back, well look for her in the morning”
“But what if she doesn't make it through the night” Jake pleaded he couldn't understand “I'm sorry Jake we’ll have to look tomorrow” and with that grace signed off. Grace hated that she had to give up the search, Trudy tried to comfort her but it didn't help much.
Jake laid his head in his hands, praying that this was all just some bad dream and he'd wake up to you poking him in his bed, saying he had to get ready for the mission.
[LOCATION- DEEP IN THE PANDORIAN FOREST]
You got up from the bank and trekked deeper into the forest to try and find your way back. But you realized something, you were alone, in the forest, and had nothing to defend yourself.
With that realization in mind, you grabbed a stick and hid under some big leaves. You sharpened it with your knife. Looking up at every little sound your ears picked up. Your heartbeat was so loud, it felt like it was beating directly in your ears.
When you got the spear you continue your way to find safety. Alone you looked around whenever an animal squawked too loudly for your comfort. It felt like something was watching you, waiting to strike, you thought the Thanator had come back with how on edge you were.
Your insects were right however, something was watching you, well more like someone. In the treetops, there was a girl, she laid down on a branch to not be seen by you as you passed under it.
When she could see you again, she raised her body slowly before hopping up without making a sound. Drawing an arrow, aiming for your head, she had a look of both disgust and hatred for you.
She was about to release it when she noticed a wood sprite. It floated down onto her arrow as if it was urging her to not release it. As it floated away she drew it back to watch it float away, she looked at you for a brief second before running off.
*
As night fell over Pandora, new creatures in the night awoke, suddenly taking interest in you. As it was getting dark you took off your jacket and wrapped it around the other end of the makeshift spear. Then dipped it in some flammable sap to try and make a torch.
Then you heard something, in the bushes you heard animals yip around you, you tried to calm down thinking it was just a random animal passing by like other noises you heard throughout the day.
Then it happened again when you squatted down to light the spear on fire, this time it sounded like it was circling you. The noises were happening more frequently now, it just confirmed in your mind that you were dinner tonight if you didn't get out of there.
You struggled to light the match, striking it over and over, only getting sparks till it finally lit, quickly you lit the jacket and it soared with light as you got up. You swung it behind you to see dozens of dog-like creatures surrounding you. ‘Goddammit’ you thought. Thinking you could scare them off you tried waving the torch in front of you, but they just kept moving forward.
Trying to get away, you walked backward but they just kept following, some even went into the trees without you noticing.
You just ran. They eventually have you surrounded on all sides, and your attempts at just scaring them with the fire aren't working as they got bolder. The noises they made almost sounded taunting like they were laughing at you.
Instead of just waving it at them, you swung it at them, trying to get them away from you. As you looked around, you saw them clearly now, they were viper wolves. They had black shiny skin with a red stripe down its side, and six legs with white paws, their mouths were dripping with saliva, waiting to get a taste of meat.
Growing impatient you yelled at them “Just add to my shitty day already, COME ON '' You challenged them, one hissed from behind you, It lept at you as you swung at it, knocking it to the ground.
Another came at you from the trees, you just pointed your spear at it impaling it, stabbing it through the chest. When both of you fell, you lost hold of the spear and before you grabbed it
another one came at you, grabbing your hammer instead, you wrestled it before whacking it at it knocking it out.
Running to the spear a Wolf grabs your foot, tripping you. You pulled yourself up in time to kick one away. But as soon as you got up another one jumped on you, this time near your face. As it snapped at your face you could feel another one biting your exposed legs.
As you yelped in pain, the girl from before came back and shot at the viper wolf on top of you killing it, then you kicked the one that was biting your leg. You sat up , grabbing your knife when you noticed the arrow.
You looked around to see a na’vi girl jump over you, shooting at one coming for you.
When she landed she started to wack at them, beating them away with her bow. She hisses at one when it jumps up and tackles her to the ground. They rolled on the ground till she was on top, she grabbed her knife and killed the animal. She grabbed her bow again and swats at a few more till they all fled as she gave a final hiss.
She stood there for a second, listening for them, making sure none came back. You just sat there amazed she dealt with them all on her own. You knew how to fight, the fights you won in high school told you that much. But these viper wolves, damn near killed you if it wasn't for her.
When she turned around she groaned from how bright the fire was and moved towards it mumbling something under her breath. She picked it up and threw it into the water. You tried to stop her, but your pleas went unheard “Wow, wonderful” you grumbled and went to grab it from the water.
The na’vi woman ran to a yelping viper wolf, as it lay dying she grabbed her knife and put her knee on its neck, she stabbed its neck putting it out of its misery then saying a prayer.
You walked into the water and grabbed the piece of wood then headed back to the land. When you got back you saw how the plants lit up, then you remembered something from your training, the plant life was bioluminescent, meaning everything glowed.
You just stood there admiring the forest around you, everything glowed with blues, teals, or purples, it was beautiful, hell even you glowed, the white dots on your body showed you that. The woman came into your view, as she knelt down next to the dead animal, and she put her hands on its corpses
“Uhh, you probably don't understand me but-” she ignored you and started her prayer “That was kinda cool, where you learn to fight like that-” she cuts you off again saying her prayer louder then stopped to get up, she grabbed her bow and left.
you, not noticing you continued “I would be dead right now if it weren't-” you looked up to see she was leaving. So you got up to follow her “he-HEY where ya going, wait a sec” You chased after her.
“Hey wait up, I'm trying to talk to you” She tried to ignore you, but found herself rolling her “I wanted to say thanks for killing those things-” You tried to grab her wrist but she turned around to smack you with her bow, knocking you down
“AHH, what the fuck” You held your cheek while you looked up at her, but you saw her walking to you with her bow pointed down “dont thank, you dont thank for this, this is sad. VERY sad only,” she said it like she lecturing a child
“ok, alright I'm sorry” you try to apologize, but she just looked more annoyed and she raised her hand “all of this is your fault, they did not need to die” her face looks disgusted and her tail swishes behind her.
You only laughed and justified your actions “My-my fault, they attacked me first, I was just defending myself” You looked up at her “How am I the bad guy-” she pointed her bow at you again this time more aggressively
“Your fault” *woah, easy there* “your fault” she continued “your like a baby, making noise, don't know what to do” you tried to move the bow away but she whipped it away from your hands, you flinched a bit *woah*
You finally got up “ok fine, alright fine” you rose to her eye level holding your hands up “If you like your little friends back there, why don't you just let them eat me, hmm?” you looked at her for a bit then rose to your full height,
“What's the logic behind that huh,” you said so softly, she was kind of taken aback “why save you?” she asked “yeah why, I’m clearing not worth it in your eyes” she looked down to think for a moment, she looked conflicted before saying
“You have a strong heart, no fear” You were taken aback for a second, as she walked towards you “But stupid, ignorant like a child” And with that, she walked off leaving you behind, you chuckled and bent down for your spear and chased after her
“well if I'm a child, why don't you uhh teach me or something” chased after her, she was ahead of you by a lot “The sky people can not learn what they can not see” was her justification for not teaching you
“Well teach me to see then” she ran on to a long branch “No one can teach you to see”
When you got on the branch yourself, stopped for a second, amazed by the forest. You looked for her again to see she was a good distance away once more
“Ahh hey wait up, can we talk or something, like uhh where did you learn English? Did you go to grace school or something? I know her, she kinda my-” your spear got caught on a vine, it flung you backward, you almost fell but she caught you “You're like a baby” She then said some na’vi under her breath, it was too quick and quiet for you understand
“Look, I need some help,” you tried to reason with her “You should not be here” she flicked her hands in your face “I got separated from my brother, he's probably worried sick about where I am” You tried to reason with her
“So can you just help me, take me with you-” you thought she would understand but “NO, go back” “no i-” “no” she pushed you back “go back,” she said behind gritted teeth, clearly getting impatient.
But something caught her attention as she looked up, you looked up to see white jellyfish-looking things floating down towards you two. Some of them were close, you held out your hand, but she took a hold of it, thinking you were gonna smack it away.
Being a little petty, you went to touch another one, just to piss her off. She grabbed your other arm before you could get it, and she shouted NO at you, she gripped your arm tighter “Atokirina” You slowly held out your arm, for a few when they came towards you.
She looked at them with wonderment as they landed on you. The ‘Atokirina’ as she called them, tickled your skin, and they were cold to the touch. It made you flinch as they landed.
You held out your arms when you realized many more were coming, “wha-what are they exactly?” “seeds of the sacred tree, very pure spirits” “neat” More were landing on you, they were practically covering your body.
While you were silent freaking out thinking dead people were landing on you, she looked on with amazement. When the final one landed, they all floated back up into the air to find something new.
“What was that all about?” you looked to her for an answer, but she looked at you “Come” You just looked at her “Come” This time she grabbed your wrist, and off the two of you went.
“Hey, where are we going-” You hit a plant that glowed from the impact, getting sidetracked you hit a few more, even drumming on one. She waited for you to catch up. “Come” With that, you were reminded of that fact you were supposed to follow her to who knows where.
You noticed how the earth under you reacted to your steps, now that you weren't side-tracked by animals trying to kill you and trying to talk to the girl who saved you, you could finally experience the wonders of the forest.
You jumped from branch to branch with her
“hey what's your name-” you were cut off by something hitting your feet “shit.” you tried to grab onto the branch but you quickly slid off, you landed on your stomach and groaned.
Well ain’t this the cherry on my shitty day’ you thought to yourself as you sat up.
You took the rope that tripped you off when you saw what you think are Direhorse coming towards you with riders on top. You quickly got up and drew your knife and retreated back, trying to find safety, when you were met with something not safe, arrows in your face.
They surrounded you on all sides. You put your hands up trying to come off as non-threatening. And a nervous laugh came out of you which only put them on edge more.
You dropped the knife when the girl came down “Calm down people, calm down” she looked at them all. Then she stopped to look at one guy, he dismounted from his horse and stalked toward her
“What are you doing tsu’tey” she asked him angrily “These demons are forbidden here!” he retorted “There has been a sign, this is a matter for tsahik” whatever she said had seemed to stop him, making him think.
he looked at you and then the girl before turning around “Bring her” With that, he walked away “Hey what's going on” You felt someone put their hands on you “Wait- AHH” They dragged you away harshly, you feel one put a knife under you queue “Hey what's happening” as you said that, the riders sped off as the rest of you had to catch up.
[LOCATION- HOME TREE]
When the rest of you caught up you saw where they were taking you, their home tree. It was huge, easily dwarfing the Renaissance Center in Detroit. There were people at the entrance trying to see what sudden commotion was.
The closer you got to the tree, the tighter the grip on your bride was, as they held the knife under your queue. The crowd of people parted making way for you all.
They all hissed at you, identifying you as one of the ‘sky people’ as she called you earlier. They tried to grab at you but they would be pulled away or blocked by the people leading you.
You looked forward to seeing a spiral in the center of the tree, and you saw other people at the base of it, mainly the guy and a man, the two were talking to one another. The man wore more flamboyant clothes.
Girls noticed them and went to grab your bicep to lead you further to them.
“Father, I see you” she greeted him, it was a simple phrase, but you were too distracted, looking around instead. He walked towards you, and the closer he got the more nervous you were. You smiled from the nerves but quickly dropped it to nod your head to him.
“This creature, why do you bring her here?” he asked her “I was going to kill him but, there was a sign from Eywa”
“I have said no dream walker will come here” he addressed the people, you were having a hard time catching up, he way spoke too fast for you,
Yes, you studied it, but one: it wasn't your strongest subject, and two: you've never been put in a situation where you actually had to practice what you learned. “Her alien scent fills my nose” What he said apparently was very funny as the other people laughed, especially the guy from earlier
“Hey what's going on” you for a final time “My father is deciding whether to kill you” Your eyes widened a bit at the mention of ‘father’ “That's your father?” she nodded,
you panicked a bit, and went into ‘oh shit, met the GFs dad by mistake’ mode “uhh nice to meet you sir” you went to shake his hand when a crowd of people stopped you, even Neytiri told you to stop.
“Releases this creature! Step back” All heads swiveled to the source of the sound, and an older lady, also dressed in flamboyant clothes, came down the spiral “I will look at this alien” As she stepped closer you could hear Neytiri say “That is Mother, she is tsakhik, the one who interprets the will of Eywa” “oh that's nice” you said nervously, honestly she sacred you more
you watched as the lady circled you, inspecting you. She grabbed your braid, then your tail twisting it around.
“What are you called,” she asked sternly, her accent coming through “Y/n Sully” She looked at you then pulled a knife out of her headpiece and stabbed your shoulder, as you yelped in pain, she licked the blood off.
“Why did you come to us” looking into eyes, well more like a soul with how deep she looked. “I came to learn” You weren't lying, you came to learn and study the rocks but they didn't need to know that. “We have tried to teach other Sky People, it is hard to fill a cup that is already full.”
she looked you in the eyes, challenging you “Well mines not full yet” you said back to her “I mean just ask my brother-” she interrupted “what are you?” you don't know how to answer her “well I'm a scientist, but a uhh…I was a former warrior from the umm jarhead…clan” You wanted to cringe into yourself
“A warrior, ha I could kill her easily” the guy from before interrupted “No, this is the first warrior dream Walker we have seen. We need to learn more about her” the man known as the girl's father spoke, the people talked amongst themselves about what he said.
“My daughter, you will teach her our ways-” the girl gasped at the news “To speak and walk as we do” The girl looked upset from what you could tell, “Why me? That's not fair-”
she was interrupted as her mother walked to you “It is decided, my daughter, will teach you our ways, learn well Y/n Suil, then we can see if your insanity can be cured” You bowed your head “Thank you, ma’am”
The girl roughly took your arm and led you to a tent, she pushed you in and closed the flap. You looked around, there were racks that held different items on them. She walked over to it and picked some clothes out.
Turning around to you she said “Take off the sky demon clothes, now!” she demanded with some clothes in her hands “Uhh what” you asked a bit flustered “Take your clothes off!” getting impatient, you could see her tail swish behind her
“umm no, I'd rather keep these on” you chuckled, currently all you had on were your shoes, shorts, and your shirt that looked like it was barely holding on.
“If you are going to learn the ways of the people, you will change” That was her final demand before she walked over to you “Woah Woah!! calm down ok! i'll take my damn clothes off” She handed you the clothes, it was a simple loin cloth and top.
“Can I at least get some privacy?” she looked at you confused “What do you mean, the entranced is blocked” she pointed towards the flap “True, but you're in here hehe” She just stared at you, sighing you turned around and started to take your shirt off by grabbing the end of your shirt and lifted it above your head.
You could feel her staring at you “Take a picture it’ll last longer” you joked, you went to face her but she looked away embarrassed, you went back to change into the new clothes “there done, happy now” you to towards her with you hands on you hips, ti felt weird to be so exposed like this.
You looked at the girl, she tried to keep her gaze on your face but you saw your eyes dart to your legs, no doubt surveying the bite mark. You also saw how her cheeks darkened a bit. She finally replied while raising her head in a confident action.
“Yes, you look a little normal now” she then turned around waiting for you to follow her
“ouch, that hurt” you joked at her little dig at you and followed her out of the tent. “Come, I will take you to my mother, she will help your leg” and with that you both sent out to the Tsahik of the Omitakya.
Jake x Avatar!reader x Neytiri
Chapter 7: The adventure begins
Word count - 1.6k (not proofread)
Note: Hopefully this chapter is more intriguing, I've got most the boring buildup bite out of the way now and I can start getting to the crux of the story, woohoo!
•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡
The forest was lush with life around you. The soil was dampened with recent rain fall making the ground feel spongy beneath your feet while the air was thick with that foreign humidity that was native to Pandora. You felt out of place as it seemed each step you took a twig would snap beneath it or a rustle of leaves would be left in its wake.
Jake and Neytiri were silent, they moved through the forest with ease but it was second nature to them now unlike you, a fresh face in this savage planet. You trailed behind them with wide eyes as you felt the scornful gaze of hidden creatures track you, you tried to focus on the path ahead.
Jake walked slightly hunched as if he were still a marine while Neytiri stood tall with her eyes gazing above it, she knew she could handle herself.
A while later, echoes of voices could be heard.
The outskirts of the village began to appear with tall watchtowers full of armed guards standing proud amongst the vegetation, the stalks of the mighty towers covered in ivy and moss to disguise them. The warriors looked down from their huts at the Oleyektan and Tsahik, confused as to why yet another dreakwalker has been allowed past their bounds. Some warriors held guns stolen from the war while the more interesting of the lot held arrows encased in thin razor like spines that had been crafted from the abandoned artifacts.
It was intimidating yet intriguing. You found yourself avoiding eye contact with each one although you know their eyes are heavily trained on you, you felt the relentless urge to just wrap your arms around yourself in a selfmade blanket of comfort but alas you didn't want to appear weak.
The sound of chatter and yips became louder the further into the forest you went, the village life growing denser. You noticed how Neytiri dropped part of her defensive stance and instead straightened to show her swollen stomach, she was proud and she should be as she was carrying the next leader - their heir. The chatter begin to hush as the chiefs walked past, the clan pressing their fingers from their heads and down towards the earth in a sign of greeting and respect before eyeing you.
They could smell the strange freshness that laced your skin as if you were newly born, which technically you were. They didn't outright show their disapproval out of respect to their leaders but you saw how their ears slightly pulled back and mothers hid their young behind their legs.
It made you feel self aware and you finally relented and wrapped your arms around your lean stomach, trying to protect yourself from the ever present stares. It didn't make you feel any better.
The huts here were mainly built in the trees, hidden from normal view, but if you looked closely you could see manually placed planks of wood that would circle the trunks of the trees leading to woven pathways throughout the sky. You followed Jake and Neytiri closely, unsure of where they were taking you.
The people that had now been left on the path behind began to huddle as soon as you left, their whispers chasing and taunting you as you felt their stare flick from your back then back to their friends. Jake noticed it too and he offered you a small smile that you returned. He knew what it was like to be stared at, to be the talk of the town, but at least he had the training to not care for any of it but here you were, a feeble little scientist buried deep in her shell - how were you going to survive this?
Neytiri paid the whispers no mind as she continued to lead the way through the constant forming crowds until they reach a tree with one of the said staircases wrapping up from its base. The climb looked long and dangerous.
She looked up to where the tree met a platform before looking at you.
“You must climb”
She said as if it were simple, as if you wouldn't die with one wrong step.
“I've never climbed before”
“Then you will learn now or you will not survive”
It was at this moment you think back to one of Jakes call logs where he would speak of first entering tribe life, he said Neytiri went by the motto ‘learn or die’ and here she was, proving his point.
You felt yourself begin to tremble like a frightened pup and Neytiri either noticed and didn't care or just didn't see, you placed your bets on the first. Jake however clapped a hand on your shoulder and gave it a slight squeeze.
“I'll go first and you can watch what I do”
He says reassuringly and steps on the first plank, his foot slightly angled so he could maintain balance. He repeated this step at a slowed pace to show you his every movement and you did just that.
“Now you go”
You heard Neytiri say in a surprisingly encouraging voice.
“I will follow you”
She states, you knew this was one of the rare occasions she was trying to reassure you, that she would protect you on your ascent, yet it just added pressure that in case you'd slip you'd now not only squash the Tsahik but a pregnant Tsahik at that.
Nevertheless you nod, trying to reenact what Jake had done before, you place your foot at a slight angle on the plank. You then feel Neytiri come close to you from behind.
“You have turned it too much, you will instead lose balance this way”
She explains and you straighten you foot slightly.
“Well done”
She praises and you can feel a blush of excitement and pride flush onto your cheeks. You then push off the ground and slowly but carefully begin your wobbly ascent.
Neytiri trekked the steps behind you, her movements fluid and accurate while watching you like a hawk. She'd give you frequent instruction yet also compliments at every turn - it was clear she had picked up you responded better to being gently guided than yelled at. The complete opposite of Jake who would never listen unless you clipped him round the ear.
After what seemed like an hour long attempt, you felt your feet hit a wider yet spongyer surface and you could've cried out in relief instead you settled for a pleased sigh. Neytiri came up behind you shortly after and you swear you saw her feline-like smile before she covered her mouth with her palm.
You turned to Jake with a proud smile as if you wanted him to be proud of you also and he had a smile on his face as well, his eyes crinkling slightly. Jake knew you were proud of yourself and he was too; however he secretly knew you made more of a meal out of that than he did on his first attempt.
“Well done”
He says with an amused tone but you were to relieved to hear the slight tease in his voice.
You now looked out across the vast tribal land from a whole new perspective. The edge of the patch of forest descended into a sheer cliff face that rivalled the height of the hallelujah mountains, you could see the bottom of their rocky forms peaking out the underbelly of the clouds. Inside the tribe land was just as fascinating, the na'vi had crafted a massive network of spiderweb-like patterns, connecting each tree to its sibling and each bridge ended with a nest like hut, some big some small. You could see na'vi of various shapes and sizes making their way throughout the levitated village, some holding baskets of fruits while others were just children chasing each other with wooden carved toys. No matter where you looked there was a smile.
The spongy pathway you were on lead to the second grandest hut their was, it was colossal in size while still looking cosy despite not being able to see in due to a warm toned woven covering blocking everything but the light from entering. The outside of the hut was decorated with beaded strings and carved symbols, some you recognised as the religious symbols of the Omaticayan tribe. It was only then you realised who's hut you were standing in front of.
It was Mo'at's.
Neytiri looked over at you before she spoke.
“My mother would like to meet you, she wants the blessing of Eywa to see if we should teach you our ways.”
It was here you could see Neytiri was slightly more accepting than you originally thought. Maybe it was due to you sharing a bond with Grace, that Neytiri felt like she owed her adopted parental figure this one favour and it was.
Neytiri had seen Grace as a mother, as she saw her dying, about to be taken by Eywa, it was then she realised she truly loved the woman and wished to honour her death in any way she could. Maybe you were this way, maybe you were how she could keep her unspoken promise to a dying woman.
The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.
Prologue: Welcome to Pandora
Warnings: cursing
Ensley's POV
When you’re 20 years old, you’re usually in college, or moving out of your parents house or whatever. Not me! No, I’m on a different planet to learn more about the wildlife and the natives. I like to think that I’m pretty lucky. I get to do what I love and be mentored by the best of the best, Dr. Grace Augustine. I arrived on Pandora just after I turned 18. I’m the first of the Sully siblings to be here. My brother Tom is supposed to join me here soon. I haven’t seen my family in two long years. I miss my parents and above all, I miss my big brothers. They are only a little over a year older than me. Our parents loved to say that I was a perfect mix of both Jake and Tom. I had the wit and humor of Jake and the smarts and curiosity of Tom. Jake and I were the troublemaking duo. We would taunt the kids of the neighborhood and play pranks on our family. Tom was the brother I could seek out for guidance. He and I could sit and talk about theories forever. It was him who got me extremely interested in the Avatar Program and I studied as hard as I could in order to be considered for the program. Growing up, they were the perfect brothers. They still are.
When I started my process to get my own avatar, there were some complications with my DNA and it was denied. So I do not have an avatar. My brother Tom does, and he’s here waiting for Tom’s arrival. I work directly under Grace kind of as her right hand. I will be honest, I thought Grace hated me when I first showed up here. She probably did because I was so young and she “didn’t want to be a babysitter”, and I quote. Once she realized what I could do, she started to come around. Since my arrival, Grace has taught me so much and helped me grow as a scientist. She has taken me under her wing and has very much become like a mother figure to me.
Above all, working with Grace has its perks, but it definitely has its downside. One of those is being her runner. Grace will send me on coffee runs at random hours of the day. She also likes to have me run errands for her too. I get tasked with taking files to Selfridge or sitting in on the boring meetings that she refuses to go to. I didn’t mind running her errands in the end because that was how I met him.
I’ve only ever heard of Colonel Miles Quaritch, I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting the well known Head of Security, until now. The first thing I noticed about the man, other than his piercing blue eyes, was the trio of scars on the right side of his head. If the story is true, he was attacked one his very first day on Pandora by a viperwolf, because he decided it was a good idea to go check out the forest. What an idiot.
On a trip to one of the breakrooms to get Grace her coffee, I space out. My mind is running rampant, thinking of all the things I have to get done that day. In the middle of running down my mental to-do list, I fail to pay attention to how I turn a corner and run right into a muscular chest and take a tumble to the floor, landing flat on my ass.
“Geez, you need to watch where you’re going cupcake. You okay?” The man says as he reaches down for my hand and hoists me up to my feet.
“Yeah, I’m sorry. I guess I was just really out of it.” I say, visibly embarrassed. He lets out a soft laugh.
“It’s fine. Hey, I can’t say I’ve ever met you before. What’s your name?” He flashes his little smirk at me. This man is so devilishly handsome and I think he knows it. With his tan and defined arms, his silver hair and those damn blue eyes. He knows he’s attractive.
“Um, ha, I’m Ensley, Dr. Ensley Sully. I’m a botanist.” I put my hand out for him. He takes it.
“Ah you’re one of those science pukes ain’tcha?” He says, his smirk replaced with a neutral expression. I can’t tell if he now has a sudden distaste for me or something. Since I've been here, I’ve quickly come to understand that the soldier and scientist have never fully seen eye to eye. All because of their different views and since the important people in RDA favor soldiers over scientists.
“Yeah I am," I say, going into defense mode. "I don’t believe I know your name either.”
“Oh yes, I’m Colonel Quaritch. You might know me as the head of security.” Why, he’s very modest isn’t he. I mentally roll my eyes.
“Well, it’s nice to finally put a face to the name.” I say and he chuckles. He locks his eyes with my brown ones and he looks almost as if he’s analyzing my face. I feel my confidence cracking under his gaze. Part of me wants to run and hide and another part of me wants to fall to the floor and cry. But I don’t. I stand there until I feel like I’m done with the situation.
“I should probably get going. My boss is probably wondering where I am.” I say as I step around him. He turns his body to keep me in sight.
“Yes, don’t want to keep them waiting.”
“Mhmm, it was nice meeting you.” I say as I turn and continue my trip to the breakroom for Grace’s coffee. As I walk away, I have the feeling that eyes are on me. As I round the corner to the breakroom, I glance back and see the colonel still looking at me. I hesitantly stop and gaze back at him. I softly smile and wave my fingers at him. He subtly nobs and turns to continue to where he was going.
I turn on the coffee machine so I can make Grace’s drink as well as making a cup of tea for myself. I’m not a big fan of coffee. I hate the bitterness of it as well as the after taste. So I don’t drink caffeine or anything, I just run off of sheer willpower.
As I’m doing what I’m doing, I think back to the encounter I just had with the colonel. Everyone made him out to be so mean and cold. He didn’t seem that way with me. Maybe everyone only ever met him as the colonel and I just got to meet him as just him.
I finish making the drinks and I make my way back to the lab. Upon my arrival, I look around to find Grace. I find her hunched over a microscope. I set her mug down by the scope and she shoots her eyes to look at me.
“Jesus E, what took you so goddamn long.” She says, visibly irritated that she had to wait longer for her precious coffee. She takes a sip and looks back at me signaling that she wants to know what happened to me.
“I just ran into someone and I got to talking to them. It's not that big of a deal.” I say turning my back to her and heading to my desk.
“Who did you run into?”
“Fuck Grace, why do you care?”
“I want to know.”
“If I tell you, will you stop pestering me?” I grumble. She nods her head.
“I ran into Quaritch.” I say and Grace's face slightly drops.
“Oh, are you okay? He didn’t give you any shit did he?” She asks and I shake my head. She seems relieved. She and Quaritch have always had it out for each other and couldn’t be in the same room as each other without wanting to bite the other's head off. So I understand why she doesn't want him to give me or any of her scientists shit or anything.
“Okay well, let's get back to work. There are some Mist Blooms I want you to analyze and make some reports about. Okay?” Grace motions to the pile of papers and files sitting on my desk. I take a seat, sip my tea and dive back into my work.
Note: This is my first ever fanfic and I'm so happy to share this with you. Most of my titles are going to be based off Taylor Swift title tracks. So if there are any swifts here, I hope you enjoy that. Chapter 1 will be out soon!
