just finished stormfront (do the titles mean anything or am i just being analytical )
and honestly i was pleasantly suprised by the last 100 pages, did find a few sections to be a bit dragging like murphey and the scorpion and the fight at the end with victor but im just a bit bored with fight scenes in general
but overall? the whole scene with monica and her daughter and their interactions with harry , to harry's monologue about usage of power how he could simply destroy victor with his strength in magic but doesnt, holding himself back and holding strict to the laws of the white council even if they treat him like shit, i liked the sort of dynamic that was made between him and victor of how one guy can be influenced by this greed to learning more and more of magic even if he has to commit vile deeds, while on the other hand harry knows he himself has this great strength but decides not too, he's knows what he is capable of and decides not too, perhaps bc of his past or white magic ( i think thats the name?) he uses what he has for the good of it and with the fact that magic should be used for the goodness, of protecting and etc etc
maybe im being too deep into n being 🤓☝️ but i liked it, such a fun book and im excited to get into the second one

I don't know much about Jim Butcher as a person--I barely even know much about him as a writer (I've read some of his Dresden Files short stories, though)--but I hope someone somewhere is archiving his old Livejournal because the essays he has on writing are very useful references.
I can't even count the number of times I've read and re-read them and applied what they say to the stuff I've written. His essay on how to wade through the middle of a story so it you can reach the end and not get bogged down by the stress of being stuck in the middle is literally the main thing that's helped me get through the mid-section of Parallel Worlds Record as I write it out (not to mention the mid-sections of other stuff I've written or are working on, both fanfic and original fic). It would be terrible if no one at least saved the information he provided to share with other writers.

I don’t need a Dresden Files tv show remake becuase I want to see book accurate scenes and characters come to life. No no no. I need it so the angsty little 12 year olds can make the most soul crushing edits of the characters to songs like “Your own your own kid” “not strong enough” “SCOTT STREET” “WHAT WAS I MADE FOR”, that cause me to go into a depressive spiral for 6 days.

Harry Dresden on the run! Is he running to or away from something?
He is a good character to try out different art styles on! Although I’m not sure what this style is. I vividly remember him wearing cowboy boots at one point??

This is my most ambitious rebind so far. I’ve printed on bookcloth before, but this time it was particularly challenging. I printed a much larger pattern for the covers and spine than I’d ever previously attempted. I ran into some issues with printer jamming for the first time since I started the regular practice of printing directly onto bookcloth. It was immensely stressful, because any damage to the printer as a result would have voided the warranty, since book cloth is not one of the accepted printing mediums for the machine.
But with some patience and realignment, I managed and the cloth printed successfully. But the next problem I ran into was smearing. I’d never had this problem before either. I had changed up my settings out of caution for the machine’s acceptance of the cloth, but the result was probably a heavier and denser layering of ink than usual. This is becuase the machine believed it was printing onto matte brochure paper, not regular paper.
So as I was making the case, the design was smearing heavily on my fingers. I had to be extremely careful where I touched the book to make sure I wasn’t destroying the design as I wrapped the cover boards and spine, but it was still an absolute mess.
In the end though, I got through it. I’m pretty pleased with the overall design. I’ve been told by some that the pattern reminds them of azulejo ceramic tiles, or delftware porcelain. Hopefully my gift recipient likes it as well.
My original cover designs can be seen HERE.
