If you could rewrite twilight and have it be set anywhere, focus around AU characters (basically like idk Bella being gay, or a dif narrator, or maybe the the twins are from a dif period, ya feel?), dif characters/some OC characters, a dif time period, or w a dif human knowledge of vampires, what would you do? (Sorry for the run on sentence lol.) I’m just curious what you think would be your dream story within the universe. I think it would be cool in New Orleans in the ‘50s/60s w RosalieXBella

I actually really like the fact that Twilight is a modern-day supernatural romance, set in a region with distinct local character. While I’d give my firstborn for a Volturi-centric story or a Tolkien-esque universe that spans millennia, or even a work that hops between many different narrators, I think those are fundamentally different stories.

But, keeping the supernatural-romance element intact, here’s what I’d do:

Move the time-period a little bit backwards. Twilight does this weird thing where it ignores era-appropriate technology, like cell phones and the internet. Why not just set it in the late-80s/early-90s, and call it a day? (Bonus: everyone’s hair would therefore be large and terrible and amazing)

Make it a Bella/Rosalie/Leah romance!! Let my girls be happy. Also, I’d be intrigued by the usual vampire/werewolf love triangle resolving itself with  all three parties happy and in love and wearing delightful ‘80s fashions. 

Alternating POV-chapters from all three characters. Rosalie could provide the history of the Cullens from her inimitable, snarky perspective, Leah could talk about life at La Push, the stories she grew up with, and The Adventures of Seth. Bella could be her sassy, nerdy self. 

I kind of want the narrative to commit to being a romantic comedy?? Oh sure, the Volturi can drop in, but I’m cool with them just looking around, finding no problems, and heading back to Italy. We don’t need newborn wars. The main conflict can be negotiating the central relationship. Or sneaking around behind Charlie’s back, as he pretends to be clueless. Or, like, Rose and Jacob trying to one-up each other when it comes to fixing cars. Any of the above.
