Okay time for a new silly comics poll idea:
This time, we are focusing on the ships people into comics like (please be normal please be normal). The dynamics between the characters are an important aspect to the fandom, and it might be fun to celebrate them.
If you are interesting in gushing over a ship, and maybe adding some propaganda to get more people invested, there is a link down below.
Both popular and unpopular ships are welcome. Please try to remain civil and block people who make you angry.

I saw a post like this earlier but I seriously hate girlboss x malewife ships where the girl is this serious badass and the guy is this pathetic fucking loser who’s down BAD for the girl but the girl doesn’t feel the same way yet they still end up together even when there’s no real chemistry or character development between the two. I love ships where the two characters start off not knowing much about each other, then there’s a small mutual crush, but then the characters are BOTH down bad for each other. They’ll both do anything for each other because they truly love and care for each other. *COUGH* ghostflower… *COUGH* *COUGH*

there's just something about fantasy/sci fi romance that no other ships can compare to. the desperation to stay together, to stay alive. the stakes and trials they get put through. the depth the relationships get to to survive and to hold on to life and sanity, and to each other. the connection they get from going through so much individually and together. incomparable. often depressing, but absolutely incomparable.

Scrolling through TikTok makes me so sad sometimes. There’s gorgeous art and people literally go to the comment section to complain about the ship and call the creator horrible names. Like, okay. If you don’t like it just keep scrolling? No need to be an ass about it… I’m here to appreciate the beautiful composition and choice of colors. Not to police others about the fictional content they enjoy…

Ship prompt
31. prostitute/client au
Jinzula (Jin x Azula)
Hello, anon! Thanks for the ask!!
Modern AU setting by the way
Jin couldn’t believe she was doing this.
How did they get here? Okay. She knew how they got here.
When Jet first proposed the idea, Jin instantly said no. They’d gone out for a night on the town after Jin’s girlfriend had been found cheating on her. Jet said she needed to cut loose and be able to just sit back and relax for a night. What did that mean? Hiring a prostitute.
Jin instantly said no. She was angry at her girlfriend, yes, but that didn’t mean she wanted to hire a prostitute. Maybe going to a bar or out to a movie with friends? Jet, respecting her wishes, agreed to the bar which is where they all went. They drank, had some food and drank some more, and more, and more.
“Okay! Let’s do it!” Jin yelled to Jet, “Let’s hire a prostitute!”
That was how Jin found herself in her home with a Honda car outside. She was alone now, everyone had returned home and Jet just told her to text if there were problems, and incredibly nervous.
A knock at the door got her attention and forced her to the door. Standing in the door way was possibly the most beautiful woman Jin had ever seen in her life. She had long black hair, beautiful golden eyes and pale skin. She wore a red dress with heels and had a purse with her.
“Hello.” The woman grinned, “Nice to meet you.”
“N-Nice to meet you too.”
The woman chuckled, “First time?” Jin only nodded, “Okay. Here’s the deal. Your friend paid for the full night and that’s what you’re getting. The time is all yours until 9 am in the morning.” She stepped into the house, “Bedroom down the hall?” She asked.
“Y-Yeah.” Jin managed to get out. The woman nodded and made her way to Jin’s room.
Well, this was it. She would walk into her room where a prostitute….No. No, what was she doing? This was such a bad idea! This was illegal! She could get in so much trouble if anyone found out about this. Maybe it was because the alcohol was starting to wear off or because she was actually here and it was getting real now but Jin instantly decided she wasn’t doing this.
“What am I doing?” Jin grabbed for her phone to call Jet. He had to call this off. He could tell her that Jin didn’t want to do this anymore. She’d even let the woman keep the money for coming all the way down here but she was not ready to spend the night with a prostitute.
Jet didn’t respond, not surprising given that it was 1 am, so Jin walked to the bedroom to tell the woman to leave. However, when she opened the door Jin practically shut down.
“There you are. I was getting worried.” The woman was completely naked from head to toe and, when she saw Jin, sat up. She began to crawl across the bed over to Jin, “You want to start standing up?”
“I ummm…I-I think-“
“You don’t have to think. That’s my job.” She said.
“No. I-I mean…” That’s when Jin saw it. It was small but she definitely saw it. A tattoo, “What’s that?” Jin asked.
The woman turned her shoulder, revealing the lantern tattoo, “Oh. It’s an old tattoo I got with a college friend. You know, most clients don’t really look at my shoulders first…or at all.”
“Wait…Azula?” Jin asked.
“How do you know my name?!” Azula demanded, now standing up.
“It’s me! It’s Jin! I was with you when you got the tattoo.” Azula’s eyes grew wide. Memories of that day flooded her mind like a flood. The two had stayed up late that night, studying for some kind of exam, then, after finishing, went into town and dared each other to get tattoos. Jin made Azula get a tattoo of a lantern and Azula made Jin get a tattoo of a blue flame.
“Jin! It’s so great to see you! How have you been?” Azula asked, getting out of the bed.
“Great. I…Actually I’m not totally great. My girlfriend cheated on me.” Jin admitted.
“I’m so sorry.” Azula said, “I assume that’s why I’m here. To soften the pain.” Azula pulled Jin towards the bed, her fingers moving against Jin’s clothes.
“Wait! Hold on. Why are you here? You have a degree in law and policy. How’d you end up in this…I mean doing…” Jin began to blush and stumble over her words more and more. If Azula was being honest, she found it kind of cute.
“You don’t have to pretend, Jin. I know you know why I became a prostitute. Faking ignorance doesn’t make me feel better.” Azula told her, “Can we just do what you hired me for?”
“Wait, what?” Jin asked. Her eyes were wide and filled with confusion. For a moment, Azula grew annoyed. Was Jin really sticking to this act? Everyone knew what happened.
Although, Jin not knowing would explain why she had never texted her after the incident to offer condolences or support. It would also explain the truly lost expression she had right now.
“You didn’t know?” Azula asked, realizing the truth.
Jin shook her head, “A year or so after we got the tattoo together, my boyfriend said he wanted to take our relationship to the next level. Like an idiot I agreed and he…he posted pictures of me everywhere.” Jin’s eyes grew. She didn’t know any of this, “My father deleted them and sued Chan’s family, so he lost a lot of money which is the only positive part of this story. Because of the pictures the university kicked me out, my father disowned me and hardly anyone would hire me as a college dropout with nude pictures of myself all over the internet. Even my father’s last name couldn’t help me. So…I changed my name and do this now.”
“This can’t be a great career.” Jin said.
Azula barked out a laugh, “No. I love having strangers practically throw me out the window because their wife is home or being treated as a tool more than a person.” She scoffed, “The first night was the worst. I had no clue what I was doing and everyone was yelling at me. I got better over time but…I’m better now! That’s the point. Now, enough about me.” Jin let Azula take her shirt off but stopped her at that. Azula looked at her in confusion.
“Azula, wait. I-I can’t do this with you.” Did she have a minor crush on Azula when they were in college? Yes. Was Azula still as drop dead gorgeous as she was 7 years ago? Absolutely. But that didn’t mean she wanted this.
“What? Why?”
“Because it’s…you! I know you! We were friends! I-I mean….we sang karaoke together, we made up dumb jokes, we watched horrible movies and laughed our head off! I can’t do this!” Jin yelled. She couldn’t bring herself to stand up or put her shirt back on so she just stayed on the bed, looking away from Azula.
“You paid for a night and I need the money.” Azula told her, “So, let me do my job.”
“I’m not doing anything, Azula, and you don’t have to either. We can just sit and talk.” Jin offered.
“Sit and talk? Jin, if you’re not going to pay then I have to go. I have other clients who will pay hundreds of dollars for me tonight and I need that money to, you know, live.” Azula stood up and began to grab her clothes. Jin really didn’t know why she was so focused on having Azula stay. She had no intention of sleeping with her but the idea of practically kicking Azula out seemed heartless. Plus, she hadn’t seen her old friend in a while.
“Azula, Azula, don’t go. Come on. You can go one night without-“ Azula rolled her eyes.
“No, I can’t. I need the money, so if you won’t pay me for my job then-“ Azula was surprised when Jin jumped in front of her, blocking her way out the door.
“I’ll pay for us to talk.” She said.
Azula raised an eyebrow, “I’m literally in your bedroom, naked, and you want to talk. That’s it?”
“Did Jet pay you or…?”
“I get half at the beginning and the other half when we finish up. It’s a way for both me and my clients to feel some ease.” Azula explained, “Your friend paid the first $500 and is expected to pay the other $500 in the morning.”
“$1,000?!” Jin yelled.
Azula just shrugged, “That’s what my services cost, but, if I leave now, I’ll be nice and only keep $500 because I drove over and you were the one who called it off.” Azula said, “It’s $1,000 if I stay and we talk.”
Jin didn’t say anything. She just walked off to another part of the house. Azula took it as a sign and dressed herself back up. She took out her phone and called up another client that had asked for her.
“Wait!” Jin yelled as Azula reached for the door, “$500! In your account.” She held up her phone for Azula to see and, sure enough, there was the money.
“You…would really spend $500 just to talk to me?” Azula asked, hearing the client’s voice on her phone but ignoring it.
“I would.” Jin said, blushing again. Only this time it wasn’t because Azula was naked. Azula looked to her phone and turned it off.
“Okay. Let’s talk.”

"Team mileven!" "Team byler!!!" How abt team sthu . Ppl forget stranger things isnt always abt couples, every main group is friends w eachother and ppl have to stop comparing and shitting on other ships bc ur ship is just "better and superior". Every ship deserves a healthy fandom that dont start random fights with others ( unless the ship is a prosh!p, they deserve hell )

Hey I'm doing some fanlore edits (https://fanlore.org/wiki/Daomu_Biji) and do you have any sources for popular ships in Chinese fandom? I basically just cut it down to pingxie and heihua because those were the ones showing up in 2021 lofter data (https://hardwareabstractionlayer.tumblr.com/post/649989752761810944/the-top-100-ships-in-chinese-fandom-according-to) and like basically ONLY pingxie is on ao3 in any numbers but I'm pretty sure HuaXie was a whole big thing I just can't find a source for it... Thanks in advance!
hi! i don't know if i'm necessarily the best person to answer this question because my incursions into the chinese DMBJ fandom are very curated and basically mostly limited to pingxie spaces, so my knowledge of other ships and their hubs is pretty sparse
that being said, finding centralized hubs to get full numbers and stats from for dmbj ships historically in the chinese fandom is complicated for a number of reasons, one of them being that DMBJ is an older fandom, which means a number of fics were hosted on websites and forums that no longer exist. another is that due to the state of chinese internet, fans also host fics and fan art of ships in closed access forums that are sometimes more or less difficult to gain entry to so as to create safe spaces. that being said, there are still ways to somewhat measure the current popularity of a ship. since this is an ask, i figured i'd turn this into a small informative post if anyone is interested in a surface level overview of what's popular in the chinese fandom by comparison to the english-speaking one. just keep in mind that because of all the above reasons, this is only ever going to be an overview of what's currently popular in general and not everything that exists, because arguably probably everything exists in some capacity, and of course this is all very surface level, so i'm sure someone else could do a more in-depth deep dive, especially if they get around more
disclaimer: because i know some might take this the wrong way, to be clear this is NOT meant to spark any kind of discourse surrounding ships, nor is it here to say that some ships are "better" than others. it's purely numbers i've tried to present as objectively as possible, mostly to provide comparison between two different sides of the fandom that behave differently and have sometimes vastly differing preferences
Chinese DMBJ Fandom Ship Popularity
to start off, i think it's relevant to point out that ao3 isn't the best way to measure a ship's popularity in chinese fandoms even if it can give you a rough idea. it can get you rankings to some extent (and even then it really depends), but the numbers aren't going to be at all accurate considering ao3 isn't the platform of choice for chinese fan fiction for several reasons i won't get into here, but that i'm sure people who've been in cdrama/novel fandoms are probably aware of
so your best bet to get any sort of idea of what ships are most popular is by looking at how they rank on big public platforms, namely lofter and weibo
lofter has yearly rankings like the one OP mentioned that people talk about, and it's a fairly good way to get an idea since it's a pretty popular blogging website for fan fics and fan art. lofter isn't cooperating with me right now, but i'll be using the data compiled for end of 2023 (or as of february 2024) by this bilibili video for the 200 most popular ships on lofter. among those 200 most popular ships, 3 of them are DMBJ ships, and are ranked as follows:
XiePing (not to be confused with PingXie, because yes, chinese fandom differentiates ships by top/bottom dynamic) at #120
Tumblr media
HeiHua at #25
Tumblr media
PingXie at #2
Tumblr media
no other DMBJ ships make an appearance on this list, and if nothing else, it tells you not only that both PingXie and HeiHua are by far the most popular DMBJ ships in general, but also gives you an idea of just how insanely popular DMBJ is in china overall to have three ships in the top of a general fandoms ranking
next we have weibo where getting an idea of a ship's popularity is a bit different, and there are multiple ways to do it, but one of the easiest ones to get an idea is by looking at how high a ship's super topic ranks on both the real time and weekly popularity rankings. super topics function similarly to how communities work on X and aren't tags, so not everything tagged with a ship is necessarily going to reflect what's posted in the super topic and vice-versa, but it still gives something of an idea of overall popularity. looking at the today's super topic ranking in the fictional characters category, again the same two ships show up in the rankings:
HeiHua at #23
Tumblr media
PingXie at #5
Tumblr media
for the sake of comparison, because it's easier to actually see figures with weibo super topics, i also looked up both other ships that do get some traction in the chinese fandom despite being less popular, as well as ships that the english-speaking fandom tends to talk more actively about (in tumblr spaces anyway)
HuaXie at #174, which has an audience, but the numbers are already very different and speak to the fact it's generally speaking a smaller ship as of now (for reference, 万 that you see on these pictures is a unit for ten thousand, so here 1.1 万= 11,000)
Tumblr media
HeiPing (unranked), which is in somewhat of a similar situation as HuaXie, but considering HuaXie is ranked, it's safe to say that's probably the only other ship that's even remotely popular by comparison to the two giants that are PingXie and HeiHua
Tumblr media
allXie at #160, which is less a ship and more of a bottom!wu xie enjoyers cocktail that has a little bit of everything under the sun, though is mostly a mix of wu xie being shipped with some of the main male characters (i.e. xiaoge, hei xiazi, xiao hua) as well as other more minor characters such as zhang haike notably. it's not really a thing in the english-speaking fandom, but it's worth mentioning because it does exist enough to be represented
Tumblr media
PangXie (unranked), which is quite honestly one of the bigger contrasts between the chinese fandom and the english-speaking one in that this ship is pretty much non-existant, or at least i've never seen fan fiction for it. again, my view of things is biased because my experience is deliberately curated so it's entirely possible there are things i just don't see, but the numbers don't seem to contradict that impression
Tumblr media
PangYun (unranked), which i'm providing here mostly because pangzi is most often shipped with yuncai (and usually as a sideship that i can tell), though these numbers aren't necessarily representative of what content exists for this ship, since most things tagged as PangYun are posted to the general DMBJ super topic. if anything this mostly gives the impression the ship doesn't have much of a dedicated following, especially given it's part of the other category rather than the fictional characters category
Tumblr media
PingSang (unranked), which is one of the only two ships that have any kind of following that involve liu sang, is also in the other category, and along with PangXie and his other most notable ship, is most definitely a rarepair, which is another notable difference with part of the english-speaking fandom where liu sang ships tend to be both fairly popular and have active communities
Tumblr media
CanSang (unranked), which is in yet another category (CP as in couple as in ship), though this one's rarepair status might be explained by the fact that, if you couldn't already tell, the chinese fandom has little to zero interest in secondary or minor characters, and beyond that, the core of the chinese DMBJ fandom doesn't care much for the dramas/live action adaptations and is largely centered around the books, so given the premise of this ship is based in the adaptations, it's not surprising
Tumblr media
Iron Triangle at #65 is getting a special mention, not only because it is ranked, but also because it's not necessarily what you think. the 角色 or fictional characters category for super topics isn't limited to ships, so you also have super topics for characters on their own in it. what chinese fandom considers to be the six main DMBJ characters, aka wu xie, xiaoge, pangzi, xiao hua, hei xiazi, and huo xiuxiu, each have their own super topics that are in the top 200. the iron triangle topic is ranked, but it's more in the same vein as those, that is to say it's a gen super topic, not a ship super topic. the chinese fandom doesn't seem to be into polyships in general, so that might explain it
Tumblr media
i'm not sure how informative this post is, since i get the feeling some of this information is either obvious or things that people already know more or less, and i'm also not sure it really answers OP's question about finding reliable sources for numbers, but it's a surface level attempt. if anyone has more in-dept knowledge or would like to add onto this with different sources or data feel free to!

Keith is way too reckless
No matter what it is he does, he always gets some sort of scratch or bruise.
Lance is constantly nagging him about this, saying stuff like "You have no self preservation" and "You're a dumbass" and then he proceeds to take care of whatever injury Keith has gotten this time because he loves his idiot boyfriend way too much.
