those first couple weeks after escaping a time loop have gotta be disorienting as all fuck. all those little cues that used to tell you what's about to happen are now triggers that cause you to brace for something that isn't coming. you have to relearn the permanence of death -- hell, you have reacquaint yourself with the entire concept of finality altogether. everything keeps changing but it never changes back and you keep having to remind yourself that this is normal. "it won't reset anymore," you echo to yourself, over and over and over, like a broken record, like you're still trapped in a loop, like someone who escaped the time loop but was doomed to bring it into the future with them

Harley has a relapse. Well, up until she realizes the teenager she kidnapped needs help.

She hadn't meant to, she really hadn't. But.

There'd been a store alarm, smoke had started filling the aisles, there were gunshots, she'd gotten scared taken by surprise, and someone was laughing nonstop.

Very abruptly, she was back under the Joker's thumb, and the only way to survive was to play along so hard she herself believed it.

Later, she'd learn it was a bunch of teenagers from out of town lighting the firecrackers that had been on display for the Chinese New Year.

But she'd kidnapped another teen, one that had nothing to do with it.

She was outpacing the Bats with said teen thrown over her shoulder, when she started to slow down.

His ribs kept digging into her shoulder, and he wasn't putting up a fight. He wasn't even panicking.

That was...not right. That was not something that had ever happened when she'd been with the Joker.

She came to a complete stop.

She put the kid down on his feet.

She noted the lack of baby fat, even though the kid definitely wasn't even sixteen. Bruises that disappeared into his shirt. Dead, almost bored eyes that stared back at her, blurred by clear sleep deprivation. Scars that did not look good on a civilian. The world-weary expectation the kid held himself with, like getting hit was going to happen and he just had to be prepared for it.

"Babe, you back?" Ivy asked, voice tentative.

Harley turned and pointed at the kid.

"I want this one."

Or; Danny was getting beat up by his bullies, got kidnapped by a lady with wild eyes, went with it because he didn't really want to be with the school group anymore, and now said lady is trying to adopt him because he's "too skinny". Later, when he's awake enough to understand that Harley Quinn and Batman are fighting over who gets to adopt him, he realizes this is a good opportunity to get Dani a family, considering he's taken. (If anyone can keep tabs on her and make sure she's safe it's Batman after all) (But if she doesn't like Batman he just knows she'll love Harley)

no trope wil f me up more than of characters getting seperated forever and not only accepting it, but also moving forward in their life despite them missing the one another and still finding happiness in their new life even if the other one isn't there to see it and has no clue how they're doing on the other side.

and even if watching them leave their lives hurt very much, it will never change how much they love each other and also love each other enough to let one another go. (yes, i quoted a song, shush)

enough stories about how someone learns to truely be happy through love. i want a story where someone is desperately seeking out love thinking it's the only way to be happy only for them to learn by the end that happiness is what they make of it and they don't need love at all to make it.

When a non-horror game has a horror section, I often find it a little more effective or memorable than a full-on horror title's horror, in a way. I think that's because, for characters in fiction, they usually don't know they're about to experience a horror story, so they aren't mentally prepared at all. As the audience, we know that when we boot up Silent Hill, we're gonna see some scary stuff and can mentally prepare accordingly. But when some innocuous children's platformer or RPG or whatever suddenly throws genuine horror elements at me, I'm taken out of my comfort zone much more roughly since I don't expect it at all. I think that's neat :>

#Fallout has some great examples of this #A Hat in Time and Rayman as well #the Zelda series of course #One of the most fun uses of this trope to me is in games with sidequests #Where you're send to some location that might be kinda suspicious #maybe sent to get an item or look for someone who got lost #and Oops! The places is Haunted by Actual Ghosts!#An until now unknown element of this world!#That's so fun #you get to feel just like some investigative journalist or whatever from a horror story #who has no idea what they're about to get into
