Prompt: “Do you hate me?”

Now that Abe wasn’t actively trying to find him, Wilford seemed to appear everywhere: already draped over his office chair when he came into work, the door still locked and seemingly untampered with; in the background of his favorite noir film, a flash of neon pink in the gray; at the bar he frequented on gloomy, lonely nights, mixing up brightly-colored cocktails.

“We’re friends now, and friends hang out.” He said, answering a question Abe didn’t ask. Then he placed onto the bar the most intricate drink Abe had ever seen– Abe would taste it a few minutes later, when Wilford turned his back, and it’d be the best cocktail he’d ever had, a welcome reprieve to whiskey straight– and stepping back to scrutinize him, his thick, dark brows furrowing. “Unless you hate me.” A pause. “Do you hate me?”

Abe sat back, genuinely unsure. He’d never thought past their roles of hunter and prey, detective and criminal. William Jackson Barnum was a murderer, nothing more, nothing less.

In the decades he’d spent immersing himself in the case and living its facts, it had never occurred to him that William might’ve been a victim, too.

He looked at Wilford, who had visibly wilted in the time it had taken him to answer, for what felt like the very first time. “No,” he said reluctantly. “I don’t hate you.”

Wilford brightened, a childishly happy grin spreading across his face. “Best friends, then!” He declared, spinning on one pink high heel with a flourish and heading back toward the bar. He stopped once to cast a glance over his shoulder that made Abe blush from his head to his toes. "Enjoy your drink," he said with a wink, "it's on the house."

everyone, go read this. it's one of my favourite fics ive ever read, it's also the longest oneshot in the whole &j ao3 tag. it's AMAZING. it's angsty, it's fluffy, it's a little smutty twice, it's beautiful. the writing is fantastic, the characterisation is amazing, it's a brilliant fic and i encourage you all to read it.

Hi! Thanks for the ask!

So the fic in question hasn’t been written yet (I’ve been busy with school, but my semester just ended so I will get to this soon). Basically I want to write a backstory for Mel, focusing on his childhood/young adulthood, and how he got his start in the TV business. I’m also working on a series of shorts featuring Mel and my OC, Arlene who I ship with him. One of those is already up here.

One of the main characters in the backstory fic will be Mel’s father, Del (an OC), who I imagine as a big influence on his son. The family has to deal with some drama (Del’s parents don’t like Mel’s mom, don’t agree with Del’s career choices, etc.), so the fic will follow them as they navigate that and Mel trying to figure out who he really is amidst all this mess.

That’s what I have so far. Once I write it, it’ll be up on AO3. I appreciate the interest!

a little spike centric drabble in the Fell AU

Spike was having a good day.

He’s been out more often, thanks to this virus that glitches Chase’s program. Now that Chase has become more gloriously, selfishly, bronzingly powerful, Spike has permission to “do whatever he wants as long as it’s fucked up.” Spike gets to step into rooms and watch children scatter into hiding. Spike gets to pick up puny little Adam and throw him into walls. Spike gets to knock over trucks and throw wholeas garbage cans into oceans.

Spike protects Chase doing what he does best—fear mongering and destruction. Speaking of, Chase has finally settled for a more reasonable goal than President: dictator.

Spike’s in such a good mood on this beautifully horrible Friday that he decides to read the message in the bottle that showed up on the beach that day. He’s supposed to destroy outside contact, as it could be a bomb or tracking device, but he almost hoped it was something dangerous. He welcomed threats. He challenged fear. It’s all just an excuse to draw blood, and Spike loves drawing blood.

So, sitting in the cool shadow of the Bionic Island training center, atop a slightly damp rock, Spike opened the letter.

“Please, Chase, please let this reach you

The update, Krane installed it for me, he still can detect bits and pieces of you guys, I’m out of prison, talk to me please you can use telepathy with this new software I’m sorry and i love you”

The message was written with clearly shaking hands. Spike had never met or even heard of Sebastian, but he felt his heart pound and his mouth regretfully smile. Must be the body’s natural response to that name.

As Spike considered this—why Chase would keep this from him, who he is, if Chase was in love, how could this information be useful, and most importantly, is it worth going behind Chase’s back—he picked the bottle that carried the message up by its neck and shattered it against the rock. Then he picked up the rock and shattered it between his hands. The pebbles that would hurt his feet if he still felt pain rolled beneath him.

Spike ultimately decided that doing impulsive things was his specialty, so why the hell not. He tapped into his chip, and after a few clumsy misclicks (Chase really did download hentai onto his chip, huh) Spike was video calling Sebastian.

“Chase!” Sebastian said before Spike could get a word out.

Fucking hell, the Sebastian kid was hot. His clearly forced smile hung lopsidedly on his face. His eyes sat softly back in his skull. Black shadows rested under his eye. Cuts, some actively bleeding, tore across his face. Sexy. Spike instinctually started flexing. “No,” he corrected, deepening his voice, “Spike.”

Sebastian, despite looking like he’d been crying earlier, laughed. “Oh yeah, I heard about you. Could you take a message?”

This was going to be fun.
