I'm generally not a fan of the misunderstandings trope but when it's done well it hits hard

Imagine:

Loving someone deeply and truly, platonic or familial or romantic doesn't matter. This love is a core part of who you are

But your moment of deepest devotion and commitment to them fails and becomes what breaks your relationship and causes permanent harm to the person you love the most

And they never actually know what you did or tried to do for them. All they know is how it went wrong and you can never explain to them how it was supposed to go

Because the cost of the truth is too high. Not just for you, but if they fully understand the pain you were willing to go through for them, the pain you did go through for them, it would break them even more than your failure did

And you still love them too much to do that to them

But also, because you did fail. It was your fault it all went wrong. You don't deserve the forgiveness you know they will give you

Now imagine the above scenario is true for both halves of the relationship

That is when the misunderstandings trope is used to it's best affect and when it is used so well the tragedy of it is like no other

Shen Twins have been playing in my brain and I can't help but think of their dynamic, especially if Shen Yuan transmigrated when they were kids.

Shen Jiu would be a protective brother, wanting to keep his final blood relative with him, the one that didn't leave him and wouldn't leave him even when Qiu Household came knocking. Shen Jiu would try to make sure that Shen Yuan ate and took care of himself and also made sure that he could still be a kid.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan would also be protective of his new brother, unaware of the other becoming Shen Qingqiu, but love him for trying to protect him and keep the harsh moments in their life from not hurting as much. He would be loyal and be cautious of those who would want to mindlessly want to hurt his brother. Shen Yuan would be deeply attached to him and try to return the favour to Shen Jiu.

Their co-dependency most likely continue albeit in smaller doses. Shen Jiu would value the opinion of Shen Yuan when it came to things, even in very serious moments such as selecting disciples. Shen Yuan would also make sure that Shen Jiu wasn't working too long or hard. They would buzz around the other trying to keep the other safe while also trying to remember that the other is an immortal that can handle themselves.

Idk, just thought about it. Thought it was cool :)

just to put this out there but i headcanon that the shentwins are the types to put BLOCKS OF TEXTS for their ppts

sj is more organized about it tho (has more bullet points and underlines the important words). super minimalistic; he uses the default formats

sy just types. no pausing. there are pictures at least. but separating his paragraphs every 5-8 sentences would be nice. theres also a meme at the last slide

the ppts are helpful and informative tho, if u could get through all 4-10k words

#the funny thing is this would almost have to star shen jiu as haruhi? #if we're looking at the one poor kid among all the rich trust fund babies #either that or SY and SJ have to be the twins‚ which does do weird things to the different roles & relationships #like. if SJ does not come from a street kid background then why is he Like That #hmm maybe there was a Parent Trap situation where the twins got split up between the parents #and SY went with a parent who was fairly decent and SJ went with a parent who was ... not #and they were reunited in high school? #they wouldn't be able to pull off the Hitachiin interchangeable double act #but they might get some mileage out of a good twin-bad twin act instead #okay let's try SY and SJ as the twins and Luo Binghe as Haruhi #Yue Qingyuan as the well-meaning but kind of a himbo club leader #Liu Qingge as Mori perhaps? he doesn't fit great as Kyouya -- not manipulative enough #But then again Shang Qinghua and Mobei-jun would best fit Hani and Mori's weird codependency thing #so that does leave the role of the SIC for Liu Qingge #I don't think the roles all line up exactly -- we may have to combine or split out some #I feel like the demon characters have got to be in some kind of a rival club #but it's been a while since I've seen OHSHC so I can't recall most of the plotlines #either way Luo Binghe accidentally breaks something #and gets co-opted into the host club to work off his debt #this solution was proposed by SY and Luo Binghe went '....okay!' #then unfortunately. he met shen jiu #ouran high school host club crossover #scum villian self saving system
