L’oeil Art graphite pencils in HB to 10B and Prismacolor Nupastel white which has been discontinued 😢. I need to find an alternative. On Strathmore toned gray series 400 paper.

as mentioned in the previous post, my new adoration is colored gel portrait photography (find an explanation of what that is here). It's incredibly inspiring to me! However, I don't have anywhere near the necessary equipment or expertise for doing that kind of photography, so I'm recreating my favorite photos with pastels.

For this face, I put the eyes too close together. I think they're also a bit on the large side as well, but it's nothing I can't correct in later portraits.

The reference I used is from Pinterest.

Well, I was able to tell the Jane Davenport and Reeves things to GTFO. Those can melt in the sun for all I care.

Why does my brain have to make things difficult in reminding me I just bought the Koh-I-Noor and Master's Touch and have I even got to use them much yet? And the woodless ones broke in half.

The next brand on the chopping block is the Creta Color, I have a dry and a wet set, and they might take the Staedler Triangle and Spectrum Noir color pencils with them.

King Art and Dick Blick will need to prove their right to stay with me and I haven't even used the grey set that much.

What my brain needs to understand is no, they aren't going to ever run out of colored pencils in this world. It's not your childhood and you can and will be able to afford replacements, even for the $5 each ones. You deserve good art supplies. (not that any I bought aren't good but art people know what I mean)

You parted ways with the Prismacolor Nupastels without dying. The rest of the fam might follow them, including the watercolor pencils.

You've overloaded yourself, with good and rightful intentions, and now you need to remember why you bought so many pencils in the first place- because you wanted and deserve the best art supplies for yourself.

my newest love is colored gel portrait photography! I love the ultra-saturated, unnatural lighting this gives the subjects and have been browsing a lot of this type of photography on Pinterest. Naturally, I just had to try and recreate a few.

I actually think I didn't do too bad! The eyes I draw are getting more realistic now that I'm paying attention to the lids -- same goes for lips and noses as well.
