THE TOO GOOD TEN with BRANDON STANSELL

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a country artist you need to know,” rising singer, songwriter and musician Brandon Stansell has been slowly making a name for himself in the country world - and doing it on his own terms. Coming from a family who was never supportive of Stansell’s sexuality in addition to pursuing a genre of music that hasn’t been inclusive to LBGT+ artists, Stansell has been working hard to redefine the genre. In 2018, he made history when CMT premiered the music video for his song “Hometown” that follows the emotional journey he faced when coming out as it was the first LGBT themed video to appear on the platform. Since putting out his first EP in 2015 he’s been both an advocate and inspiration as he continues to be vulnerable and sincere in his music and his latest EP, This Must Be The Place is no exception. The six track record showcases his own take on the country-pop sound that infuses soulful vocals with introspective storytelling. This Must Be The Place is described as “a perfect picture of this specific time in the young songwriter’s life” and with its raw honesty you’ll feel like you’ve made a new friend after listening. He celebrates the recent EP release by taking on the latest Too Good Ten. He shares the story behind the songs on the EP, why representation matters, what is was like collaborating with Cam and so much more. Check out the full interview below:

1. Starting from the beginning, what was it about music that you were so drawn to? What went into the decision to pursue it full time?

BRANDON: Well, I have been singing my entire life. I started working for Opryland in Nashville when I was six-years-old as performer and really never looked back. I knew I would spend the rest of my life chasing those stage lights.

2. Huge congrats on the release of your latest EP, This Must Be The Place. How did you end up deciding on these (6) songs to include on the project? Which one were you most nervous to release and why?

B: Oh, thank you! It’s always exciting to release new music. My writing tends to be quite personal, so every release usually reflects what’s going on in my life at that moment, and this record is no exception. The EP is about dating again, dates gone wrong, and days when I’ve felt weighed down by the days behind me rather than what’s ahead. It feels both personally reflective and re-inventive in a way.

3. Now I read that “Good At The Time” was a date gone wrong – what’s the story behind that one?

B: My co-writers Sam Creighton and Will Jay got a lot of laughs in at my expense while we were writing this one. The song is about a Palm Springs getaway that went a little off the rails - I will spare you the details, but they’re all in the song so…go listen!

4. There are now (3) openly LGBTQ+ country artists signed to major labels (Brooke Eden, Lily Rose, T.J. Osborne) which is up from 0 just over a year ago and your video “Hometown” was the first LGBTQ+ themed video to play on CMT. As a part of the LGBTQ+ community and being in the country music space, what do milestones like these mean to you?

B: It’s exciting to see other artists finally comfortable enough to come out. Country Music needed these people! Queer people who love country music needed these people. Aspiring queer country artists needed these people. Where there once seemed like there was no space for the queer community in this genre, there is now. And I feel very grateful to have been in the mix of such incredible artists who have helped turn the tide. We’re still aways away from where we need to be in terms of equality and visibility but we’ve taken some huge leaps in the past few years.

5. You collaborated with fellow country artist, Cam on the emotional single “Hurt People.” How did that collab come about? Who else would be a dream collab on a song?

B: Well, I adore Cam. We met a few years ago at a benefit show in Nashville and just stayed in touch. When I had a work-tape for this song, I sent it over to her and asked if she wanted to feature on it. She responded with a bunch of crying emojis…and I took that as a YES! I was so happy and honored to have her - she is the real deal. As for another artist collab…there are things in the works, so stay tuned!

6. What’s been the best or most influential piece of advice/tip/trick that’s stuck with you over the years (personal and/or professional)?

B: A friend of mine once told me if I kept waiting for someone to open a door for me, I’d spend my life sittin’ behind a closed door. That’s been motivating to me over the years.

7. In the “Pick Up Where We Left Off” music video it depicts some of the stuff we found ourselves doing during quarantine last year like puzzles, gaming and drinking straight from the bottle. Besides music, how did you pass time and/or keep sane during the isolated times in 2020?

B: Well like most people, I spent a majority of my days just trying to keep it together. I am so grateful I have music as an outlet. On my worst days, my guitar was a really good friend to me. I’ve put out two EPs since the start of the pandemic. And I would say, the music really did save me.

B: It’s gonna be ok.

10. What’s the rest of 2021 and early 2022 look like for you?

B: Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to say I’m turning the newly released EP into a full record. I’m currently writing the last few tracks and will be back in the studio later this month. The full record will come out early 2022!

Marking the two’s fourth release of the year, “Reckless” is an intense swirl of moodiness and darkness that draws you in with a false sense of security before a deep bass unexpectedly overtakes. The results is dark pop song that creates an insanely danceable beat that is club-ready.

“Timebomb” by Angles & Airwaves

Alt-rock band Angels & Airwaves share latest album Lifeforms which marks the group’s first release since 2014’s The Dream Walker. The group is fronted by former blink-182 member Tom DeLonge.

Compiled of previously released singles dating back to 2019’s “Rebel Girl” the 10 song project arrives ahead of the band’s Lifeforms Tour which kicks off tonight at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, CA.

In addition to the 2019’s “Rebel Girl” and “Kiss & Tell” the album boasts previously unreleased songs in addition to this year’s releases including “Euphoria” most recently “Timebomb” which appeared as the last song before the LP’s release. Interestingly, appearing as the first song on the album, “Timebomb” has a driving drum beat and a supporting message as DeLonge sings, “hey there, little sad girl / I really wanna hold you” that regardless of gender, feels like one everyone could relate to and would need to hear nowadays.

“High School” by Alt Bloom

Hollywood Records singer and songwriter Alt Bloom continues his slew of single releases this year with the most recent “High School.”

Even though the track was just released a few days ago, its already garnered editorial support across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music and marks the artist’s sixth single of the year so far.

The track combines a catchy pop hook mixed with the unique blend of alt-R&B. Introspective and relatable (depending on how much you messed up in high school), Alt Bloom showcases a level of growth as an artist that fans have continued to see him develop over his career.

THE TOO GOOD TEN with CALICO

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March of 2020, four longtime friends, Tony Cecchetti, Chris Couto, JeanSe Le Doujet and Will Lloyd decided to use the lockdown to come together to create the Folk-Americana band CALICO. It all begin with Tony who had decided to find time between his six-month-old daughter’s sleep schedule to record several of the songs he had been sitting on. Chris joined in next - who Tony had played live music with to yoga classes in Squamish, BC - who produced the songs and added percussion. Shortly after JeanSe and Will were added to the mix to finish off with their additions of bass and electric guitar respectively. The result was the debut album, Under A Sudden Sun that came together with each musician being able to add their own unique style with no direct guidance and all while being completely separated geographically. Under A Sudden Sun resonates as an introspective and refreshing view on nostalgia, life and love. The band already has their second album recorded and while they continue to already work on their third album, we’ve been lucky enough to have Tony take on the latest Too Good Ten interview. The Too Good Ten. Ten Questions. One Artist. Too Good.

1. Now you guys all started making music during the pandemic in early 2020. Describe how starting a band in the middle of pandemic has been? What were the pros and cons of doing so?

TONY [on behalf of CALICO]: Starting a band during the pandemic had many moving parts. In some ways, CALICO would never have been a thing if it wasn’t for the pandemic. When the world shut down and we were all stuck at home we had the time to do things we may of never had the time to do given the normal pace of life. We could record and really dive into the songs that I had written over the years. The pandemic allowed for us to do that. It was our silver lining during the incredibly difficult time. That said, we also didn’t get the opportunity to play together in the same room until this summer, in late July of 2021, just before we released, Under a Sudden Sun. We started CALICO in March of 2020, so that’s a really long time to not get together. We did a good job Zooming and creating music from afar but it wasn’t easy and it lacked the energy that bandmates bring to a room. All in all it was an incredible experience and is definitely a large part of the backstory of our band.

2. Congrats on the release of your debut album, Under A Sudden Sun! What was it like putting this together? What was the most personal song to release off the album?

T/C: Thank you so much! We couldn’t be more excited. It’s been amazing to put music out and get so much support back from our community. The reaction has been above and beyond our expectations. Given that we all recorded our parts from different locations, putting together the album had a lot of components. The process for each song was more or less the same. I recorded vocals and rhythm guitar from home. That was then sent off to Chris Couto, who recorded percussion/drums. That was then sent off to JeanSe Le Doujet, who recorded bass. And lastly, sent off to Will Lloyd who recorded lead guitar. Chris Couto produced the album and put an incredible amount of time into making sure each song sounded like we were in playing in the same room.

The most personal song off the album is “Oh My Mind.” The song is about searching for something that has yet to be fulfilled. In many ways it represents the album as a whole. I always wanted to play and make music. The pandemic allowed me to start a musical journey, with close friends, that seemed unattainable prior to. “Oh My Mind” is about putting one foot in front of the other, exploring, and searching for something that you know is out there, you just haven’t found it yet.

3. Tony – your mom actually painted the cover for the album. What kind of direction did you give her for the album cover? Were there other versions of the album?

T/C: Yes, my mom painted the album cover. It is something I am very proud of that my mom could be a part of it. I did give her an idea but she had complete creative freedom to take that idea and run with it. I loved wandering the hills of Berkeley, CA when I grew up. Hills that my mom knows well and still hikes regularly. The initial vision was to capture that first light of day when the sun just peaks over the hills. It is a special moment. My mom did a wonderful job capturing it. I have the original painting at my house. I have yet to frame it but will soon and will treasure it for a long time.

4. As mentioned, the title of the album is named after “that magical moment when the first light of the day peaks out from behind the hills.” What is so enticing about that moment that it inspired the name of the debut album? Which song off the album most encompasses that “tranquil and meditative” moment?

T/C: One of my favorite things to do as a kid was get up at the break of dawn and go fishing. We had reservoirs in the Berkeley Hills where I would go fish. When I was too young to drive, one of my moms would take me. When I became old enough to drive I would go with my closest friends and my sister. To this day, fishing at those lakes is one of the fondest memories I have of growing up in the Bay Area. We would sit for hours in our lounge chairs, look out at the beautiful scenery, and wait for a bite. It was so peaceful and a wonderful place to connect with myself and my favorite people.

“A Little Light,” which is the first song of the album, best described that tranquil and meditative moment. It is about the importance of light in our lives and was first written as a poem about spending time in those hills as a kid.

5. “My Darlin’” off the album made it onto your first official Spotify playlist – Renegade Folk. Where were you when you found that out? What does it mean as an artist to make it onto an official Spotify playlist?

T/C: I got an email from Spotify a couple days after we released, “My Darlin’.” I was sitting at home feeding my 2 year old daughter breakfast. I was so excited. For me, it was a testament that we had made music that was quality enough to be grouped with some great names in the Folk world. I was very proud of everyone in the band. It means a lot to be recognized. I don’t think that Spotify is the be all end all but it’s important to be on that platform. Most people listen to and find new music there nowadays. I still think we have a long way to go. We have yet to play our first show and have a lot of things we want to achieve. We believe we have potential to write more music that moves people and plan to do so.

6. Although the band started early 2020, you guys only recently got together in person to play songs and take band photos. What was that moment like – finally being all together and playing the songs live after over a year of working on them? Do you think the music would’ve sounded any different if you had all been in the same room instead of remote for the entire process?

T/C: It was an incredible feeling to watch the guys get off the ferry in Victoria, BC. Chris Couto had come out a few days early to settle in and do some prep for our recording session. Will and JeanSe came in on the Friday Night ferry and had to leave on Sunday morning. We didn’t have much time but we made the most of it. The four of us have been friends for years long before CALICO was a thing. Chris, Will, and JeanSe have all played in other bands together. When we all lived in Vancouver I would go hang out and watch them play. I always thought I had the most talented friends. They are incredible musicians and wonderful people.

I do think there would have been some differences if we had all been in the same room. I am not sure how much that would come through with the sound but definitely with the energy in the room. There is an irreplaceable dynamic that is created when musicians physically play together. It’s a vibe thing. I will say that recording from afar had immense perks, too. Everyone had complete creative freedom with their individual parts. What you hear as a final product is what four musicians felt added most to each song. There was little guidance. With everyone recording from afar, we could do it on our own time, when we felt we played best. There wasn’t the pressure of doing it at a specific time in the recording studio.

7. What is the main thing you hope listeners take away from your music?

T/C: I hope that you all resonate with the stories that we share. Most of the songs began as poems and grew from there. They are snippets of our lives that bring us back to particular memories. My hope is that the music can do similar things for you. That you find some inner peace listening to the music and that, maybe when the album has finished, you’re brought back to a place that you think of fondly.

8. For you, what was the biggest learning from this past year and a half in quarantine/pandemic?

T/C: I learned to slow down and treasure the small things. The pandemic was a time to be introspective. I gained insights about myself, my ambitions and pursuits that I had never given space for. There was also immense struggle that we all went through. The virus was one thing but the loss of community was a whole other. Losing connection with loved ones was difficult. I had never felt so far from those I cared about. All in all I think it was a time to reflect on what’s important and begin to prioritize that. The pandemic really highlighted the fragility of this life.

9. If you could only listen to (5) artists for the rest of your life who would they be?

T/C: If I could listen to 5 artists for the rest of my life it would have to be Bob Dylan, The War on Drugs, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, The Beatles, and The Highwomen.

10. What’s the rest of 2021 and early 2022 look like for CALICO?

T/C: We will continue writing and hopefully can start playing some live shows soon. Now that shows are happening again we plan to get our foot in the door. That might not happen until next summer but we are really excited about the idea and await the opportunity. We have recorded our second album, that will be released in 2022, and are working on our third album currently. “Mexico” by BEXAR

Warner Music Nashville country duo BEXAR take you on an international trip on EP cut “Mexico.”

Comprised of Chris Ryan and Logan Turner the two make their major label debut with the release of their early September EP, Pronounced BEAR. Including 2020’s single “Again” the 6-song project combines country-pop sonics with a prominent banjo feature. Self-proclaimed influences from Mumford & Sons, The Avett Brothers and Avicii are all evident across the EP and showcases the bands unique style of country music.

“Mexico” arrived with the EP release and recalls a wild drunken fling through Cancun. The spring break adventure is a whirlwind of “shots until two in the morning,” dancing and “kicking sand on that speaker” that erupts into a electric guitar riff that is as energized as the vacation.

The two are currently in the middle of Keith Urban’s Live- Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Casesar’s Palace which wraps this Saturday, September 25th 2021.

THE TOO GOOD TEN with MADS LANGER

Growing up in the countryside near the small town of Skive, singer, songwriter and musician Mads Langer grew up always knowing he’d be in music. From singing songs at the age of 18 months in his own language to his latest release, “Lightning,” the new dad has been pursuing the dream for a long time now. Through honest, original and disruptive music the Danish singer has been able to be reborn time and time again through his music and continues that creativity as he looks to the release of his upcoming EP, Where Oceans Meet. The boundary pushing message of love is love in “Lightning” serves as a taste of the upcoming EP and contributes to the already 38 million streams and 506k monthly listeners he’s amassed across his career. He takes a break from his world domination to take on the latest Too Good Ten. 1. Looking at the beginning of your career – what was it about music that inspired you to pursue a career in it?

MADS LANGER: Expressing myself through music has been a fundamental part of my language for as long as I remember. My parents have recordings of me singing my own songs in my own language when I was 18 months old. I always knew that music was going to be my path in life. It wasn't a decision that I made at a certain time. It was more a realization that I was not gonna be able to pursue any other career even though I’ve always had plenty of other interests. I could have been in politics, in sports, in science and many other things. I could have been a teacher as my parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents were. And then again, none of these career paths were ever up for grabs. Music was and always will be my thing.

2. You got signed and had an album that you ended up describing as “flopped” and had to start over and spent time busking all over Europe. How did you come to the decision to busk in the wake of “starting over?” What did you do to keep your internal mental conversation strong through the hardships that I assume came with traveling around?

ML: I got signed when I had just turned 18. I went straight from living in my parents house, in the countryside of Denmark, to living a life full of pressure and expectations in New York City. That was quite a shocking change of scenery to be honest. Looking back, I was definitely too young at that time. When a major label first wants you it’s the end of the innocence. I had to grow up overnight and try to keep up with that big machine that started dictating how I was gonna live my life. When my first record didn't succeed commercially and I got dropped I think I saw it as an opportunity to do some of the stuff that most of my friends had done after finishing high school. But most of all that whole 6 months of busking in my old van all over Europe was an escape from heartbreak. My first girlfriend had dropped me around the same time that my label dropped me. She fell in love with a really cool guy in Paris who was older than me and he could grow a very impressive beard, hahaha…

As far as keeping my internal mental conversation strong, that's has never been problem at all and as you can imagine I had plenty of stuff to think about, write about and then finally sing about in the streets of all of these beautiful cities that I got to visit on that trip.

3. “Lightning” is the latest release and gives fans the first taste of your upcoming album Where Oceans Meet which is due out October 1st. How did you decide to release this one as the lead single? What was the inspiration behind it?

ML: In many ways, I think “Lightning” is a song that represents that certain place where the oceans meet on my album. “Lightning” is a song about recognition. When I wrote this song, I thought about all those moments in my life where I really felt recognized on a deeper level. When I met my wife. When I looked my newborn daughter in the eyes for the first time. In concerts when my music meets the audience and it feels like we're all getting struck by the same lightning. Those kinds of moments.

4. Speaking of the upcoming album – what’s the meaning behind the album title? How many songs? Any collabs? Is there a song on the album you’re nervous about releasing out to the world?

ML: Where Oceans Meet is a metaphor. The entire album circles around the different contrasts that we all face in our lives. The light, the dark. The head, the heart. Hopes and fears. It’s about loving and longing at the same time. Where Oceans Meet represents the idea of the place where all these contrasts meet and embrace each other.

5. “Lightning” follows up “Hanging With You” which peaked at #1 in Denmark radio. What’s the story behind when you first heard one of your songs on the radio? Does it ever get old?

ML: It never gets old. Every time I listen to the radio, I must admit that I hope that they will play my song. It's the best feeling ever. This might be a little far-fetched, but it's kind of like when you give someone you really care for a present for their birthday. And it's not just any kind of present. It’s a present that you put all your time, thoughts and heart into. And then one day you randomly turn on the TV. Look who's there. Is that special person that you gave the present to. She’s actually wearing that sweater that you spent five years learning how to knit. After endless attempts, you finally managed to knit a sweater that you would give her without being scared that she would think it was a joke. She’s not wearing it because she feels like she has to, because you’re on a date with her. She’s wearing it because she likes it. And she just put it on that day that she randomly got stopped by the tv-station and interviewed in the streets of your hometown. That is close to the feeling I get when I hear my songs on the radio. And no, I have no clue how to knit a sweater, but I like the image.

6. The past year in the pandemic had a lot of its own challenges but it also had some beautiful moments like the drive-in concert you organized in Denmark last May. Why did you feel it necessary to put something like this together during that time? Being the first one to do so, how did you figure out logistics, etc. for the entire event? Anything you would’ve changed about it looking back?

ML: I had just started touring when the pandemic hit us all. I had spent months preparing the show and I was extremely disappointed when I had to turn around the tour bus and go back home after only playing 10 out of 100 shows. I had a couple of weeks where I was feeling really depressed. But then I decided to see if I could turn this whole thing into some sort of an adventure. I made a list of stuff I wanted to do. On that list I had drive-in concerts for some reason. I know a couple guys who are really good at putting together big events that include live music, so we talked about how we could make this happen. All credit to them for putting logistics together. I just played the shows. I had no idea that I would be the first one in the world to do a drive in concert. But it was really fun and I would not change a thing. In my shows, everyone was on the same video conference call. I loved that because I could talk to the people in the cars in between the songs. The people in their cars requested what songs of mine that they wanted to hear. And often they had really personal stories to the songs that I never heard before. So that was something that I will never forget.

7. The past year also brought about a new baby for you – congrats! What’s been the most surprising thing about having a baby that you might not have known before?

ML: Thank you so much. Yeah, that's truly a life changing event. My little daughter is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I'm so grateful that I got to receive a little soul with my wife. Even though it has happened billions and billions of times already it still feels like a miracle. I think the biggest surprise is the fact that your whole perspective changes in the blink of an eye. She is now the single most important thing in my life. I thought that would be something that would happen gradually, but for me it really happened at the moment that she was born.

8. What do you hope to accomplish with your music in the future that you may feel you have not done already? Have any of those goals or aspirations shifted with the new addition to the family?

ML: I really hope that people will recognize themselves in my songs. Obviously, the goal is that my songs will travel and become part of people's lives in new territories. I have spent so much time in the US since I moved away from home. I lived in New York City and in Los Angeles and I spend at least three or four months a year in the US working with all the talented people that I have met over the years. Building an audience in the US is a huge dream of mine. Hopefully this album will help introducing me to people all over America.

10. What’s the rest of 2021 and beyond look like for Mads Langer?

ML: My album comes out in October. That is obviously a huge event in my life, and it looks like I'm going to be very busy talking about the album and singing the songs from it in many different places all over the world. Apart from that I will be changing diapers on my newborn daughter. Kissing my wife. Learning Chinese and writing my first score for a movie that comes out in 2022.

“Bad Day” by Justus Bennetts

21 year old singer and songwriter Justus Bennetts shows his petty side in last release “Bad Day.”

Bennetts wastes no time in showing his disdain as he exclaims, “I hope you go broke and your iPhone breaks…And your car gets towed, so you show up late / To your shitty-ass job, hope you have a bad day” at the kickoff to the song. The short – just shy of two minute track – is wildly relatable for anyone whose felt wronged by someone.

Cheeky and irresistibly catchy, “Bad Day” marks the emerging artist’s sixth release – all within 2021. It continues to feature his unique vocal delivery while showing an artist that has gained the confidence to be a true star.

With a growing audience on TikTok and social media combined with a slew of impressive releases, the North Carolina native is poised to break through in the near future.

“Life’s So Good (f. Cherry Surf)” by Chet Porter

DJ and producer Chet Porter teams up with Los Angeles based producer and composer Midoca to unveil new side project Cherry Surf with the release “Life’s So Good” via Ultra Records.

Following his emotional release, “you’ve changed, i’ve changed” with San Holo earlier this year, Porter finds himself taking on a more carefree outlook on life. Despite having spent all his “money at the lemonade stand” and having forgot his “surfboard in the sand” his sentiment remains positive as he admits “life’s so good.”

Buoyant and explosive the new single touts a bright guitar synth alongside gang vocals that provide embracive “ooohs” and handclaps. Although released at the end of tail end of summer, “Life’s So Good” continues to keep the feeling of long nights and humid days alive.

“Underneath My Skin” by The Band CAMINO

Alternative group The Band CAMINO release their debut self-titled album, The Band CAMINO with the release of eight brand new songs.

For fans who enjoyed previously released singles such as “1 Last Cigarette” and “Know It All,” they won’t be disappointed with the rest of the project. Keeping an upbeat tempo with an introspective tone is the theme of the majority of the songs across the debut LP. Traveling through life’s many adventures including love, loss, disappointing your mom – aptly titled, “Sorry Mom” – as well as a look at our obsession with our phones in “Look Up,” the album reflects a level of growth and depth that both fans new and old will come to appreciate.

“Underneath My Skin” appears as the third song off the album and finds the band dealing with a never-ending break up. Rock driven, the song is nostalgically familiar with a melodic resemblance to Michelle Branch’s “Everywhere” with their own twist to it.

THE TOO GOOD TEN with TATUM SCOTT

3 days before her 18th birthday the rising singer/songwriter Tatum Scott found herself entering the studio to record her debut EP. The project, titled Dear Future Me found Scott making sense of her world within an acoustic and introspective form. Less than a year later saw Scott release her latest single, “goodbye guy” which marked a starch contrast to her previous releases through upbeat melodies that combine acoustic guitar riffs and light synths. The North Carolina native continues to develop her sound as she takes on the next chapter of her life: college. She joins Too Good Music to answer some questions and take on the latest Too Good Ten interview. She discusses everything from the new single, how she used Instagram to land an audition with The Voice, how she balances music, school and her social and so much more. The Too Good Ten. Ten Questions. One Artist. Too Good.

1. Let’s start from the beginning – what inspired you to pursue a career in music?

TATUM SCOTT: My mom has always been musical and plays the piano by ear so she definitely gave me a love for music and it came naturally. When I was little I would always look up to Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. I always wanted to be just like them. I remember when Carrie Underwood won American Idol and I would always tell myself that I am going to be on that show one day.

2. How has growing up in North Carolina influenced your music? Do you see yourself staying there for a while?

TS: It has definitely been tough growing up in a small town in NC, because there is obviously not a lot of opportunity so I have had to do the best I can musically. I play as many gigs as I can and record my original music in a local recording studio so I am grateful that I have access to that. I grew up here so this place will always been home, but I will not be staying here because I feel like there is so much of this world that I have not been able to see and experience.

3. How do you balance pursuing music, having a social life and also going to school? Any advice/routine/tips you found that work well for you to be able to balance them all?

TS: I really try to balance everything out especially because all of these things are important. I really try to set aside time for everything and make sure I am giving enough time for these things.

4. Congrats on the release of “goodbye guy” – what’s the story behind this one?

TS: Thanks! “goodbye guy” is a super quirky and fun song that is about teenage love- so many people ask me what the story behind this song is and they make assumptions about who it is about and I always tell them it is not about anyone specifically - Its just in general like when I think I am falling for someone and I think he is falling for me. Because there is a line in the song that says “sometimes I fall too fast” before I can really know how someone really is. and that line is so true and I feel like it is relatable too- and then the song goes on to say “is love really blind or am I to the goodbye guy.”

5. “goodbye guy” follows up 2020’s EP, Dear Future Me that contained two acoustic driven songs that are distinctly different than this most recent release. How did you approach “goodbye guy” differently than those two?

TS: So my EP Dear Future Me shows definitely more of my chill side- and it’s more of me telling my story about growing up and becoming an adult and its very laid back.. both of the songs are acoustic driven which fully separates the EP from the single "goodbye guy.” They both show two completely different sides of my personalty which is so cool. So I definitely think I have found my voice in this specific style.

6. How did the pandemic affect or adjust your plans as an artist? Were there plans to release more music initially?

TS: The pandemic really motivated me to keep going and keep writing because I had a lot of down time. I did several livestreams like this with different artists and connected with so many people which was super cool.

7. You’re currently (19) and so you grew up with social media and information at your fingertips. How has it been growing up in the digital age? Anything you wish would change about social media going forward?

TS: Social Media has definitely made a huge impact on me especially being a musician. I have met so many people- You can market yourself, you can contact anyone using hashtags and whatnot. For example when I was about 16 The Voice casting page was hosting this thing called the InstaBlinds on their official casting page for Instagram. It was like blind auditions but through Instagram. And people had to post themselves singing but they could not show their face so it was like an actual blind audition. I obviously wanted to do this and decided to post a video of me using the hashtag InstaBlind. I didn’t think that anyone was gonna see it considering the fact that hundreds of people posted and they could only choose 6 winners to compete on their Insta Story using polls to narrow it down to 3 to compete again for the red card for a live callback in NYC. So I ended up being one of the three winners which was crazy to me and from there I got a callback.

8. If you had the ability to headline any music festival or musical event – which would be a dream for you to perform at?

TS: Coachella!

9. If you could only listen to (5) artists for the rest of your life who would they be?

TS:

10. What’s the rest of 2021 look like for Tatum Scott?

TS: I’ll be recording and releasing more music and playing lots of gigs. I also just started college!
