Ancient Whales- VESTIGES OF TAILS APPEAR IN ALL OF US (WIENER RECORDS)
These guys seemed to be everyone’s best kept secret, but left me out of the party (thanks). I guess this Athens trio of Enoch Beldsoe (guitar/vocals), Natalie Bledsoe (bass/vocals) and drummer Oakley Munson (we have rock’s best name….ever) first started turning their amps on in Athens, GA about a decade ago and haven’t quit since. Not sure about their discography, it could be a few homemade cassettes or 57 proper records, I have no idea, but I know that right here right now (Howard Jones take a bow) Vestiges of Tails …is sounding mighty fine, They’re not rewriting the rock songbook or anything, just cranking out riff rock that’s heavy on hooks and personality with a minimum of time wasting. These folks are so in the moment that they didn’t bother to put song titles on the back of the cd (my wife tells me they’re there but I’m too blind to see). Cuts like “Everything,” “Giving,” “Saturday Morning,” “Stick and Poke”: and “EA” are sounding pretty righteous to these ears. Your next party (who remembers parties?) needs to have this as a soundtrack and if it doesn’t, well, is it really a party? www.ancientwhales.bandcamp.com

“I recommend listening to it as soon as possible. It’s a full-color way of getting to know one of the best and brightest young bands in the American underground today, and absolutely one of the most well-rounded records in the rock n’ roll genre out this season.”
