your Discworld jacket has inspired me to actually get off my arse and start planning my own painted denim jacket for my country's Discworld convention which will be in my state this year. I've been planning it half heartedly for the past few months but now I'm going to put actual effort into it. I have untill july to do it, it will be fiiiinnnne
I'm always happy to hear my art inspired others to do some of their own; your idea sounds amazing! I'm so curious how it'll turn out. If you ever put any of it on tumblr/the internet, could you tag me? If you can still find me on this hellsite (affectionately), lol.
Anyway, good luck with your project! And the best things often come into being after a mad scramble with an impossible deadline. 😉
I'm actually working on the next embroidery piece and am trying to finish more until a Discworld convention I'm going to. Funny how the world works. ^^

New embroidery piece! This time one for Maskerade - a white half mask with red writing underneath that reads "PS: Ahahaha!!!" Because obviously i had to include the written maniacal laughter. 😂

My first embroidery piece for Hogfather. 😊❤️
It resembles an atom, but with electrons orbiting teeth and coins and the quote "show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy" written in a circle around it.

I cried the first time I saw your A'Tuin embroidery and I'm crying again now that it's done. It's incredible. I hope your family (whoever that may be) passes it on for years and years as a heritage piece because it's completely incredible
Awww, thank you so much! ❤️ (and sorry for only answering you now.)
I hope the jacket will outlive me. But it is still a piece of clothing I'm actually wearing (occasionally), so we'll see if it survives. And what I do if it doesn't. Probably cry, tbh, and then figuring out how the save the embroidery pieces and put them on something else. 😂

At least this one only took me two months. Progress! Meet my version of the Death of Rats.
I wanted to get into embroidery last year and of course the first project that popped into my head was a massive one. So here's the masterpost for the Discworld jacket I'm currently working on. The plan is to have at least one motif for every book and cover the whole thing. Wish me luck.

This is a work in progress, so I'll update this post when I finish new stuff.
Feel free to suggest things that should be on there. I've still got a list I'm working through, but any ideas are appreciated. 😊❤

Your work is gorgeous! I'm in awe of your Discworld jacket. How do you organise your embroidery threads? I've only recently taken up the hobby, but I'm already struggling with the number of different colours and keeping them separate. Do you have any tips?
I've only recently gotten so many colours that I had to organise them in a different manner (got lots of thread from friends and family for Christmas).
I repurposed a display case I put gems in as a child because the dimensions were perfect. Now it looks like this and hangs on my wall (plexi glass removed because it kept reflecting light):
Tumblr media
But I started with a handful I put in a fabric bag until I realised they got all tangled up. The next stage was finding out bobbins exist and winding it onto those. And then I got this one:
Tumblr media
That was my first organiser. You can usually find them in arts and crafts stores or online. Now I use it as my portable embroidery kit because it fits into my backpack. I'd say go for one of these; they're definitely big enough. And prevent your mum from getting you 200+ colours of embroidery thread (or don't. It does look kinda cool).
As for organisation: I sort by colour, but you wouldn't believe how difficult that can get. Does the blueish grey go with the blues or greys? What about the yellowish brown? So I just do my thing. Any bigger batches of colour (why was buying 12x metallic thread cheaper than buying just the three I needed??) are in extra boxes. I'm struggling with space as is.
Hope that helped!

Hey! I saw your embroidery project for Great A'Tuin and I love it! I'm starting to embroider a bit myself and would love to do something Discworld related, but I'm having a hard time finding patterns I like. Would you be willing to send me the pattern of one of your easier projects, maybe the hourglass? I'd be more than happy to compensate you for your time and effort :)
If just having a drawing would be enough, I can post it for you. I usually draw what I want to embroider in pencil or pen beforehand, just linework, no colours, sometimes using references and sometimes not.
The hourglass is an original, but I could't find it immediately - I did find some of the other things I've done or am planning to do. If those sketches look helpful enough to you, let me know in a reblog or comment and I'll keep looking for the hourglass drawing. 😊

As you can see - it's a mess.

You are evil. I had to dig really deep for these ones. Thanks for tagging me anyway, I guess. But I have no writing mutuals but you on here, so this part of the chain will die with me. 😅
Most of these are originals and not fanfiction, so...
1.  The fire was inside me long before I grew scales and claws.
2.  Back when a story opened doors, when letters were a mystery and numbers were potatoes, fairytales were true.
3.  I didn't stay when they heard the goodbye on my tongue and my mind split in two.
4. The first time somebody tried to kill me, I was three.
5.  When they told me about the dare and I actually considered it, I should have realized just how drunk I was.
6.  Nobody would notice the conspicuous shadow on the roof because no self-respecting thief would enter a house without a basic cloaking spell.
7.  „Why does this always happen to me?“ The bird I was talking to cocked his head to one side, chirped and then flew off. Ungrateful bastards, birds. Not that I specifically had done anything for it, but hey, we were almost related - at least we both had wings.
10.  Even though she was one of the people who had absolutely no business being there, Lynne strolled right through the first layers of magical protection designed to keep unwanted guests out and began climbing the façade of the house.
first sentence game
Thank you @totallysilvergirl and @lisbeth-kk for tagging me - sorry it took me so long to respond to this!
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
I’m going to be mean about mine and won’t provide any titles. Obviously all of these are Sherlock fics:
1. John chose a café to end his marriage.
2. Seven months. That was how much time had passed since John had moved back in after the disaster with Mary and the baby that never was.
3. John woke with a crick in his neck and a pounding headache, which told him everything he really needed to know about his situation.
4. He is having a panic attack in the loo.
5. It was the middle of December and winter had arrived in London in full force.
6. ‘Give your partner a special treat this Valentine’s Day!’ Sherlock rolled his eyes and turned the page.
7. Sherlock’s phone rang in his pocket just as the first drops of rain landed on the windshield.
8. “Seriously, Sherlock, where are you taking us?” John asked, not for the first time.
9. The house was like a beacon in the dark.
10. Wind and rain were lashing the car from what appeared to be every direction at once.
Tagging: @the-pen-pot, @whythursdaynext, @arkodian, @radley-writes, @arwamachine, @carpenoctem-tharea and anyone else who wants to have some fun here!

The fire was inside me long before I grew scales and claws. That is what makes a dragon, after all - we burn.
Sometimes, we burn with self-sacrificial love, our lives freely given to protect. Sometimes, we burn with sorrow too great for a mortal body to contain, our changing a freedom from pain. I burn with a hunger for vengeance that threatened to consume me even when I was human.
I cannot say when it started. Maybe it was when I stood in front of my brother and sister for the first time and took the beating my father had meant for them. Maybe it was when I couldn’t save them anyway, or when my mother died in prison for doing what I could not. Maybe it was for everything that happened after, to a girl who had no one and nothing left to her name.
When they dragged me through the ancient stone gates, weathered by age but gold glinting to show our city’s prosperity, I was kicking and screaming and burning with righteous fury.
Being declared the Great Dragon’s sacrifice was an honour, they said. A street urchin like me would finally serve a greater purpose. They told me not to run when I was tied to the stone as old as the town, on the plateau overlooking the beautiful valley. Everyone knows it is impossible to outrun a dragon.
She says she has rejected sacrifices before. Some barely survive, becoming pitiful, twisted things that die after barely a year. It takes power to Make a dragon, she says, and she can only do it every few hundred years. It is the only way to create a being of fire and strength.
I did not know this when she came. To me, she was the huge shadow blocking out the setting sun, wings blowing dust into my eyes and forcing me to cry for the first time that day. I did not see the satisfied grins on the councilmen’s faces as their sacrifice was accepted, though she told me about them later, nor did I see them blessing themselves, her, and me as quickly as they could before shuffling back towards their palaces and mansions.
What I did not expect was to crawl out of an egg months later, egg tooth breaking through a shell layered like so many scales and hardened by her fire from the outside and mine from within.
It was strange, having limbs bent all the wrong ways, a snout with too long teeth and leathery wings that interfered with my balance. She was patient with me as I learned my new body and chirped pitifully for the life I had lost. I didn’t blame her, for what is morality to a dragon?
In the years after, she fed me, taught me how to walk, then to fly, and showed me how to let the fire in my heart roar free. I learned everything, including how to love her.
Mother. Speech had come eventually. My mouth was not shaped for human words, but thoughts worked as well or better for our kind.
She was sitting in front of our cave, watching the sun set on the tenth anniversary of my Making.
My daughter. Her was voice deep and rumbling even in my mind, of lives lived and centuries seen. It is time to choose. Hundreds and hundreds of years ago, she had walked my path, free of chains and head held high, to die for the city she loved. The love had stayed even after, and when the place she had once called home had been attacked, she had rained down fire and death on the invaders.
I would not be made of love, but she loved me even so.
My reactions were still instinctive, not as easily controlled as hers, and I bared my teeth and swished my tail. I will bring fire to those who wronged me.
Will you burn the city to the ground? She could stop me if she wished, a mountain compared to a hill, but this was sacred to our kind. Every one of us had to decide our destiny for ourselves. It was a curse - and a blessing for those who had often had so little choice in the lives they had led.
The fire in me wanted to see it all burn. The people who thought themselves safe because they had given up one of their own, even when I had been as far removed from them as a human was from a dragon. I wanted to see the castle go up in flames and the aristocrat’s quarter, wanted to scorch the merchant villas and-
It had been years since my siblings’ faces had been as clear in my mind. Reina, with her dimples, dark curls and kind eyes. Darian with mischievous intelligence glinting in his. There were others, the children like me, with dirty faces and fast fingers and the only ones who might have mourned me.
My jaw snapped shut and the growls cut off.
The castle burned, as did the aristocrat’s quarter. I would like to believe some of the councilmen recognised the fury in my eyes when they ended up face to face with me, and it gave me quiet satisfaction to watch them run screaming.
After all, everyone knows it is impossible to outrun a dragon.
My voice was like honey if I willed it so and I had led the children down to the quarters where I had been born; that much I owed the girl I had been. A few tried to misuse the void where power had been, or tried to mistreat the children.
They soon found themselves between the jaws of a dragon without a chance of rebirth because their fire burned for none but themselves.
Resigned to your fate as a sacrificial offering to the dragon, the last thing you expected after being eaten was to then be reborn as a hatchling.

what stitch pattern did u use for the turtle on the discworld jacket? :0 it’s so well done and filled in! i work on small hand embroidery projects and im always looking for better ways to fill in large spaces :3c
The closest is split stitches, I think, but I just did whatever I felt looked good. Mosty, I poked through already made stitches to make it more dense and I used very short ones. I also tried to save thread by not going back and forth as much, but poking the needle right next to a stitch already made or going in halfway through a finished one.
I mostly did it this way because it's a jacket and will be worn, so anything to give it more strength/make sure the stitches aren't easily pulled out was the way to go.
I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense. I'm self-taught, so never learned what all the stitches and terminology are. 😅
Good luck with your embroidery projects!

I've been working on Great A'Tuin on and off since July 2022. My rough estimate is that it took me 150 hours total. That's the low end btw. I think it was totally worth it, though! ❤
Next up: the luggage and Errol.

My estimate is that this took about 150 hours. About half of that went into the disc because I discovered single thread embroidery.
Tumblr media
And because I always think it's really interesting to see the back of the embroidery - bonus:
Tumblr media
On to the next one! Maybe I'll do the luggage now.
This is part of my ongoing Discworld jacket embroidery project. Of course Great A'Tuin has to be on there. And of course it has to be the biggest one of them all.
I'm going to put the finished product in my masterpost, but I'm so proud of the thing that I have to put it in an extra post beforehand. Enjoy!
