Chapter One:
Kingdom of Eldora
Princess Elysia's POV:
The door to my chambers opens and my youngest sister rushes into the room. Shooting up out of bed, I stare, startled and wide eyed, waiting to hear the reason why she rushed in so quickly. She stands there for a moment, catching her breath.
"What is it Carla?" I ask worriedly
"Pardon, I ran here from the gardens. I heard Mother and Father speaking. There is good news. Your hand has been accepted by a young prince from Kraicia. You will wed soon! Isn't that exciting?!" She asks happily
A little girl of ten, her hair falls in crazed blonde curls all about. She glows with joy and I can't help but smile back, even as the knots in my stomach tighten. I, being six years older, knew what was expected of me since I was young. At the age of 15 word would be sent out for my hand. I would wed the best suitor that my parents could find. In time , at eighteen when necessities such as estates and more soldiers and such were achievedwhen everything was ready we would wed and then I'd be off to a new land.
To be a wife.
A Queen.
"You 'heard' it?" I question, eyes narrows at her, suspicious.
Her smile confirms all I need to know.
She swings from side to side, fidgeting a bit.
"Alright I was listening in. I can't help it, I'm excited!" She says
"Who is my intended?"
"Prince Edward from Kraicia Kingdom. He's a few years older than you. As of now that's all I know."
I look around scanning my surroundings. Amongst the four stone walls is one window, covered by curtains. Sun seeps through the gaps as the breeze blows. I turn back to my sister, asking her how early it is. Carla informs me that the staff have not even risen. The letter was sent via a messenger who arrived early this morning, before daybreak. I thank Carla again and she nods. With this she exits, leaving me alone in my chambers once again. I watch the door close behind her before lying back down. I stare at the ceiling, unable to sleep, wondering what my future will look like.
What will Prince Edward be like?
Will we make a good match?
I know that regardless of my personal feelings, I have no say in who I would wed, neither do my siblings. It is the duty of our parents to find good sitters for us and set everything up in the way it is required for us, and our kingdom, to be successful. One bad move could set back everything. As a child of a ruler, it is my duty to protect the future of the kingdom. As a daughter, it is my duty to wed and pass along my blood as well as my knowledge. Whatever preparations were taken care of by my parents and would set the precedent for what our future would be.
A million thoughts race in my head but I don't have an answer to a single one.
If I was born, not a royal blood, I would never be a wife.
I would prefer to spend my days in the forest, exploring everything nature had to offer and far away from the cruel mess of the world around me. I would adventure and be free from the heavy responsibilities that come with the crown.
I continue to wonder as I drift to sleep.

Two:
Kingdom of Eldora
Princess Elysia’s POV:
The heavy wooden doors creak open and I step through.
The stone castle's throne room extended before me, a jaw dropping display of grandeur and power. Sunlight beams down from overhead giving the room a beautiful orange glow. I stare down at the marble floor, then back up, moving forward, making certain not to trip over my dress. My hair falls in elegant curls, a golden crown atop my head.
I stand alone staring down the aisle at my future husband. His soft black hair, strong jawline and dark brown eyes were mesmerizing. I had met my intended when he'd arrived but it was brief. Standing her now in a beautiful black dress. The torso was a corset. It was sewn elegantly to the bottom, looking exactly like a one piece dress, although it was not. It was slightly off shoulder, tracing along my tan shoulders, the corset pushing up my breasts. It was made of velvet and lace. A gorgeous gown.
I feel my breath catch as the weight of my worry hits.
This is not just about me.
I look to my parents who stood in the crowd, looking pleased.
This is for my kingdom.
I inhale and make my way forward.
I turn to face my fiancé, giving a small smile.
He does as well which reassures me a bit.
We turn to face the Advisor of Ceremonies whose duty was to oversee all big events in the royal family's life: the marriage, birth of my children, the funerals, and so on. He asks if we're ready and we agree. This too causes my heart to flutter a bit. When we met he seemed like I, wanting to care for his kingdom. Now he seemed happy to wed me. This was unexpected but a positive sign.
"Princess Elysia of Eldora, do you take Prince Edward of Kraicia to be your protector and serve until your dying day, to be faithful and loyal?"
"I do." I say turning to face him
Another small smile.
"Prince Edward of Kraicia, do you take Princess Elysia, to be her protector until your dying day, to be faithful and loyal?"
"I do."
"I herby announce you man and wife!"
The crowd erupts in claps and cheers.
Together Prince Edward and I make our way down to the dining hall, a vast area filled with an array of tables and chairs. Kitchen staff made their way to the tables setting out an assortment of dishes from cakes and cheeses to lobster and beef. It was a grand event, the tables decorated in dark red tablecloth. The assortment of decor was arranged from red to black, our kingdoms’ colors.
Black, his.
Red, mine.
Now we were forever tied to one another.
Forever.
Prince Edward's POV:
I sit in my chair, a great feast in front of me.
I turn to scan the room in search of my bride.
I find her to the right of the room, greeting others who'd arrived from her kingdom.
She's stunning.
She seemed to be amazing company in the short time we'd spent together, however still somewhat shy. She's very outspoken with those she knows, welcoming them with open arms to court. A place that she herself is a stranger in. I realize after watching her do it a few times that she's putting the people from her kingdom at ease before pushing them to mingle. I turn to my advisor and tell him to pass along a note to the musicians as to what to play next. I sit watching my bride dance with her ladies. They form a circle, swirling slowly and elegantly, moving their arms in slow graceful movements. It was entertaining to watch her.
I wait patiently until the dance ends before signaling her over.
I stand, taking her hand in mine,
We make our way to the center of the floor.
She curtsies deeply and I bow in return.
She stands next to me, her hand outward, loosely in mine as we slowly make our way to each section of the floor, twirling every so often. As the dance concludes we spin around one another until the space between us closes. We stop, our eyes locked on one another. For a moment time stands still h til the eruption of applause breaks the tension between the two of us.
Princess Elysia's POV:
I stand speaking with one of my past advisors.
An older woman named Melissa.
She wouldn't be joining me in my journey.
As Queen I would now follow my husband's command.
I would have my own guards, of course and staff.
They were my responsibility.
As for everything else...
I wasn't certain.
I look around to see my husband speaking with a young man I hadn't met yet during the ceremony. Prince Edward walks away from the gentleman and makes his way over towards me. I quickly wrap up my conversation, thanking my advisor one final time before Melissa bows and walks off, respectful. I turn my attention towards Prince Edward. He leans in closely, speaking quietly.
"There has been a change of plans. We are to leave immediately without delay." He tells me
I stare back at him, confused.
His expression is a mix of stern and insistent.
"Very well but-" I begin turning to look toward the crowd for Carla
I'd said goodbye to everyone else so far.
"Now, Elysia." He says more persistent
"I need to say goodbye to my sister." I insist
He takes me by the arm and drags me off to the coach, not releasing me even as I get to the door. I turn back to look at him and he gestures for me to open the door. My heart aches not knowing when I'll see my beloved youngest sibling again. I turn back, opening the door and getting inside as directed. Prince Edward sits down across from me. I say nothing as I watch my home disappear from my view.

Ch 1
It is an average day in the Kingdom of Meada when a knock at the door awakens a sleeping Molly. Opening her eyes, and turning towards the window, she sees the sun is just barely rising in the sky. It is normally too early to be expecting visitors at this time unless it is an emergency.
Now worried, Molly hurriedly pulls back the covers and climbs out of the bed, grabbing her nightgown and tying it around herself before calling to whomever that they could enter. Molly expected her handmaiden to be standing there.
Instead it is a messenger.
Oh no. What has happened?
"Apologies madam for interrupting you at this hour. I intended to speak with your father but alas I could not find him."
Molly pulls her strings to her robe tighter in an attempt to better cover herself in the presence of company. Her long mud colored hair falls in crazed curls behind her back. She stares intently, her dark green eyes mesmerizing. The messenger finds himself speechless for a moment.
"I trust this is urgent?"
He nods, handing a letter stamped with the official stamp from the King.
Molly's eyes widen with surprise, but she does her best to conceal it.
She takes it, carefully, not truly believing it was real until the paper touches her hand.
Dark blue wax with the symbol of a silver tide as well as a crown.
"You have been invited to court this evening."
Molly nods, taking this in.
There is only one reason for a lady to be called to court: to become the King's mistress. This was known by the noble families in the kingdom as the King had taken many of the young ladies as his mistress.
Anyone who held this title could not wed.
Therefore it came with land and payment from His Majesty.
Granted, there were other matters that could call a noble family to the King's side, but these matters would be handled differently, more openly rather than at the break of dawn in secret. For these matters were kept close, it was unknown whether the Queen was aware of her husband's doings. It was not uncommon for kings to have mistresses, and if she knew she was to not speak a word of it in public as to not disrespect the king. It was simply a way of the world. There was no fighting it.
Molly thanks him and he makes his exit. She watches to be certain he leaves. Her father, Gaston, an older nobleman enters, tensing as a stranger has just exited his daughter's chambers. When he sees the small silver pin of a raven that reveals the stranger to be a messenger for the King, he relaxes. All messengers wore a similar pin, the color matched the roles they served.
Silver for royal messengers.
Blue for the citizens' messengers.
The messenger repeats the same words to Gaston before leaving. He walks over, pleased.
Molly had been at court the past few days. This was the hope. That she, the daughter of a noble would catch the King's eye. In the Kingdom, even if Molly were to birth a bastard, the King would aid financially for life.
"This is great news dear one." He tells me
Molly nods in agreement.
As a woman, she knows she has no say in this matter. As was custom, it was the male duty to set up betrothals for their female relatives. It was their duty to find the best match for the women as well as accompanying them to the first few gatherings as a matter of safety.
Although not written into law, every citizen in Meada respected this.
"Come, we must make haste."
Wasting no time, Gaston sends for a carriage. Molly heads to her chambers with her handmaidens. They get to work changing her out of her dress to a more elegant one, floor length, flowy, and stunning. Blue that matches perfectly with the color of the tide. Not yet worn.
"Molly the coach has arrived!" Her father calls
Molly calls to her younger brother, Fin. 14 years young.
He calls out that he will meet her inside the carriage as he is helping their father load their luggage.
Molly and Finn's mother, Crista had given birth to Molly at only 15 years young. Christa was promised to wed Gaston only a few years shy of birth. They had met a handful of times in passing, and their families would set up meetings for the two. At 14 they wed and Christa moved in.
Molly was born a year later.
There were many pregnancies in between, but none bore any result. Two more tries, and then everything changed the following year. To everyone's delight, she was with child, and unlike before everything was going smoothly. She gave birth in her birthing bed seven months later. The relief was short-lived as Christa caught infection and died that very night. A devastating blow.
Molly heads for the door, seeing the 6 horses paired off in two, pulling a carriage to the front of the home. Two men in uniforms sit atop the bench, guiding the coach.
As it pulls to a stop, Moll, Finn and Gaston make way for the coach, climbing inside, excited for court. Molly sits, staring out the window, doing her best not to move too much so as to not potentially tear the delicate lace of her dress. It would be hours before arriving at the castle gates, at the least.

Ch 1
Princess Sophia's POV:
The deadness of night is interrupted when a large creature cuts through the sky. Mykaris, a large black scaled dragon lets out a huff, his 55 foot wingspan stretched out as he glides through the sky. I give him a light pat of reassurance as we soar. I'd practiced as a dragon rider since my 8th year of life. Sneaking into the underground tunnels I walked into the dragon stalls. Unknowingly, the dragon I stumbled upon was guarding a clutch of eggs. A knight yanked me away before I could be seen by the sleeping dragon. Ever since then, my parents: King Mason and Queen Agnes told the Silver Soldiers- the guards serving the royals, to make certain I always had more than one escort no matter what.
My parents had taught the young girl well.
To respect the duties that came with being royal blood.
In my 15 years of life, I've taken every bit of it with as much grace as I could. My days were full of lessons, strolling through the castle, and meeting with the people, distributing the money or food to those in need. I could move about the town, but not far unless I was on dragon back. If there were ever a circumstance in which I would need to leave where I was, I would either need to be on Dragon back or have a handful of guards accompanying me. At all times I had at least one night following close beside me. Often I was also accompanied by my ladies as well.
As was standard, as soon as I woke, my ladies would enter, bathe and dress me before the day's activities. They would keep me company until it was time for her to go to sleep, going to their quarters next to hers or staying with her.
Soaring through the night sky with Mykaris seemed to be the few times that I had any time alone.
Smiling, I see the town start to come into view. Wooden structures built into a cozy home for the citizens, sat upon a riverbank. It was a beautiful place. Looking to my left out towards the sea I can spot the fisherman returning and leaving from port even as most of the folk are still nestled in bed, asleep. As the castle comes into view, I signal to Mykaris to move downward, pulling the reigns back, and he obeys immediately.
When it came to dragons and the royals, there was a tradition in place. Dragons would be paired off in their stalls for mating. Female dragons would lay eggs around the time of the Queen's birth. The Queen would share a bed with the egg, bonding the child with the future dragon. Once the babe was born, the Blood Bonding ceremony would take place. This was an extravagant event, and all citizens of the kingdom were welcome to attend.
Once the future royal is born the palm of the babe would be sliced and an identical wound would be made on the dragon as well. A small bit of blood would be taken from both and shared with the other. The blood would bond with the wounds of both dragon and rider. It was an event to unlike any other. From then on the two would grow and once the prince or princess was big enough, they would begin to train together as well. I began my training a season after my dragon encounter. I had grown up around them, but as I was meant to keep my distance as they were still wild creatures, and anything could happen in a moment.
"Dive Mykaris!" I command
We dip down lower.
Soon we would be close enough to the ground below that the dragon could land, and I could depart from my saddle, and bring him back to his chamber. Staring at the ground below I see a young woman and a young man waiting. Mykaris flaps his large and elegant wings as he continues to move closer to the ground. With a groan, he lands. I see that my visitors are my sister Princess Anissa and the young gentleman, I do not know.
" Good evening sister. I trust the day fared well." I say with a smile as I remove my riding gloves and coat.
"It has." She responds
I look pointedly over at my sister and gesture, with my eyes are in a slight not to the gentleman standing beside her.
" This young man is Barton from the Wesley household."
He bows.
"Princess Sophia it is a pleasure to meet you. Your sister and I became acquainted in the library not that long ago. She tells me that you are looking for maps of the area?"
" That is correct. I'm looking more so for one that is in more detail for my studies."
As a royal it was my duty to know the area and to know where I was no matter what, just in case.
We chat for a moment before I have to guide a restless Mykaris to his stall. He huffs and moves about unhappily, wanting to go on another flight. Locking his stall I walk over to another area where the sheep bar and grab one of them, hurting him towards the door. I push the sheep in with Mykaris, knowing that he'd take care of the rest, igniting and devouring his meal. Taking Anissa's hand, we head for the castle.

The Fire
Tumblr media
(Audiobook available in bio)
I flip the last pancake and add it to the rest of the stack on the counter. My little 5 year old daughter Natalie waits at the table, her dark purple hair in braids. She rubs her eyes sleepily but is smiling and swings her feet as she waits.
"Alright Nattie. You ready?" I ask as I carry the plate over towards her
She's got whipped cream and sliced strawberries at the ready. I'd prepped it while she was watching TV in the living room.
"Yeah Mommy!"
I sit down with her and I guide her with the whipped cream. She asks me to spray some in her open mouth and I do.
She giggles and I warn her not to choke.
I hear a meow and turn to face the left.
Our 2 year old Siamese cat Henry, moves towards us and meows again, tail flickering.
Nattie and I had rescued him from a kill shelter, spoiling him with toys and affection from the minute he came home.
I scoop a mouthful of pancake into my mouth and move towards the cat food bin. I use the scoop and fill it then dump it into his bowl. He meows and trots over. He rubs against my leg as a thanks then begins chowing down.
"He's hungry!" Natalie says
I chuckle.
She's got whipped cream on her nose.
We spend the day at the park then head home for a movie. She picks Alice in Wonderland and we curl up on the couch with snacks and blankets. As always, she passes out by the credits. I smile as I look down at the beautiful child I had created.
I decided to inseminate at 22.
I never had the desire for a partner.
My father was always horrid to my mother.
Their relationship had taken a turn once she'd had me. He would yell and scream.
Then one day it turned physical.
That was the day we left.
Once we were finally on her own, we both flourished. So I decided to go about it on my own as well. It was the best decision I'd ever made. Natalie is everything I wished for her to be. Healthy and sweet. Smart and funny.
Just like her mama.
I sit and enjoy my own shows, not wanting to wake her. Henry jumps up on the couch to curl up with us. Once I'm ready for bed, I scoop Natalie up and bring her down the hall to her bed. Then I go to my own, get under the covers and after a few minutes, I'm asleep.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I wake up in a coughing fit.
When I open my eyes, I immediately see why.
Thick black smoke is seeping through the bottom of the door. I look around but don't see any flames. I move quickly and open the window, trying to alleviate some of the smoke so I can see.
I need to get Natalie.
I grab my phone and turn the flashlight on. As fast as I can, I check the doorknob. It's not hot. Whipping open the door, I start coughing as a wave of smoke enters my lungs. I put my shirt over my face as I make my way toward Natalie's room, stumbling quite a bit in the dark. I try to move about by memory.
I can't turn the lights on if I don't know what caused the fire. The sprinklers aren't working.
"Natalie! Natalie come here baby!" I call out into the darkness
My chest tightens a bit at the silence that follows. My eyes sting and I cough.
"Siri call 9-1-1"
"Nattie baby! Where are you?" I yell
There's no answer.
The phone rings then clicks as the dispatcher connects. I get down lower to the ground as I move deeper into her room.
"Sheriff's County where is your emergency?"
"426 Edgar Lane. My house is on fire and I can't find my daughter." I wheeze
I move with my hand out.
Dresser.
Laundry basket.
Bed.
I feel around and my breath catches in my chest. It's empty. She's not here.
"Natalie! Where are you?"
Where is she?
Where is the fire?
What's on fire?
"The Fire Department is on its way. Do you see what is on fire?" The dispatcher asks
"No. There's so much smoke."
"Try and get as low to the ground as possible."
I crawl and feel tile against my skin.
The kitchen.
"Natalie Jane!"
Why isn't she answering me?
I blink back the tears forming in my eyes and urge myself to move forward and around the corner. That's when I see it.
There's a fire raging in the left side of the kitchen. The flames are climbing up the walls and into the ceiling. Black smoke swirls in the air. It started in the outlet. I'm sweating as I force myself closer. She's not there either.
"Electrical fire." I say into the phone
"Okay ma'am. You're doing great."
I hear the sounds of sirens and breathe a small sigh of relief but I still need to find my daughter. I move as fast as I can.
I move to the bathroom next.
Empty.
Oh baby girl where are you?
"Natalie!"
I move deeper into the house, calling out her name. A few moments later, I feel a pair of hands wrap around me. I whip around to see a firefighter. He pulls me out as I yell for him to find my daughter. He brings me out of the house and two more of them grab me and pull me aside.
"No! What're you doing?! My baby is in there!" I yell as I try to pull away from them
"Ma'am we have to keep you safe. If she's in there, we're going to do our best to get her out. Okay? Please wait here." One of the firefighters says to me, his voice deep and odd through the mask
I can get to her. I have to help her.
Almost knowingly, their grip tightens a bit.
I watch as firefighters move into the house with extinguishers as the flames continue to grow.
The minutes tick by and all I can do is watch.
Helpless.
Please be okay. Please.
I watch as one of the firefighters from inside runs over to speak to another one.
My heart sinks again as my brain struggles to cling to any hope I have left.
No. No no no. She's okay.
She's going to be okay.
The firefighter that had been talking with the other says something into a walkie and someone in the fire truck starts to rhythmically blare the horn. I cover my ears and look around to try and understand what's happening.
The firefighters move me back towards the other side of the road and I plead for them to stop, to tell me what's happening.
The fire is spreading through the house.
It's not working.
They come sprinting out of the house moments before the roof groans and it collapses spewing debris and smoke everywhere.
I scream and my knees go out from under me.
My baby girl.
I look around from person to person.
Where is she?
The firefighters have me sit down and I wait.
And wait.
Until finally, the Chief firefighter walks over to me. His face is a mixture of emotions as he makes his way towards me.
"I'm so sorry ma'am. We found her body in one of the hallways. She didn't survive."

Ch 1
Tumblr media
It had been days since Alice questioned her husband Jameson about the letter she'd found.
Flashback:
Alice wakes up to the smell of pancakes.
Her eyes open and she shuts them immediately from the blinding sunlight. She feels someone sit on the bed with her.
"Good morning gorgeous." Jameson says
She slowly sits up and notices he's holding a plate of hot pancakes topped with whipped cream and berries; strawberries, raspberries and blueberries coated with whipped cream.
Alice smiles at her husband.
She gives him a kiss as a thank you and accepts the plate.
He's wearing dark gray sweatpants and a matching hoodie, his casual wear when he's not at work.
Jameson plants a kiss on his wife's forehead then leaves so she can eat in peace.
Once Alice finishes her meal, she gets up and changes out of her dark blue two piece night wear and into a blue hoodie and jeans.
She slips her phone into her back pocket, grabs the plate and heads for the kitchen.
Alice gets to work cleaning up the dishes then heads out to play with Hades.
He'd always been a ball of energy. The only thing that seemed to tucker him out was swimming in the river down the road.
Jameson is already outside chucking ball after ball but Hades keeps bringing them back, bracing himself for the next throw.
Then it's time to investigate the cabinets for signs of the mouse she'd heard scurrying around last night. She kept setting traps but never caught anything.
If it died behind the wall...that was a much bigger problem.
The first few drawers were clear.
As she moved from cabinet to cabinet, she wipes them down with alcohol wipes.
When she gets to the next one, something catches her eye hidden away between the wall and the cabinet.
She moves out of the way a little and when the light catches it, it looks like a piece of paper.
When she pulls it out she realizes it's an envelope. It's full and still sealed.
In her husband's scratchy handwriting is a name: Allie.

The Forest
Tumblr media
I sprint as fast as my legs will carry me, hoping I'll make it out alive.
            6 Hours Earlier:
I reach forward, turning the small knob on the stereo of the car as I drive down the winding road. The sun beams through the windshield of my dark blue car. I couldn't be more excited than I am right now. I'm finally going on my dream trip out to the Appalachian Trail. I'd spent a month or two preparing as I was only planning on being gone a week or two. Most of the time if I wasn't sitting down writing I was cleaning, eating, packing and analyzing. My car was packed full of supplies I would need: sleeping bag, compass, bug spray, cooking pan and utensils, my journal and shower supplies as well as a few jugs of water. I knew I could fill them back up along the many running streams throughout the area I would be in.
I'm thinking about how beautiful the views will be on my many planned hikes as I continue singing along to the music, switching one hand back to the wheel and using the other to roll the window all the way down.
Today was the hottest day of the week so far and I'm grateful for the setting sun. I'd get to my campsite at night, sleep then wake for my morning hike. Originally I planned on leaving at night and hiking just early enough that by the time I got to the top of Springer Mountain, the sun would be rising. I would enjoy the beautiful sight then sleep.
Unfortunately due to the spike in temperature I was stuck indoors until tonight when the heat wave stopped. The trip had been canceled over and over again due to severe weather. At first it was thunderstorms and then heat waves.
I'm hoping I'd be packed and gone before the forest fire warnings went out. It wasn't definite but if it were to happen, I surely didn't want to be here when the woods caught fire.
The music suddenly cuts out and my phone begins to vibrate. Grabbing my ear piece, I stick it in my ear and click the button.
"Hey Dad!" I say
I smile when I hear his deep and soothing voice on the other line.
"Hey kiddo, how's the journey so far?" Dad asks
"Going good so far. Traffic was backed up for an hour due to construction but after that it was a breeze."
Seeing the sign for my exit, I move off of the highway and onto the exit ramp, decreasing my speed as I get to the stop sign. Looking both ways, I continue forward after a moment, going straight through.
"Glad to hear it."
As happy as I am to hear his voice, I feel a pang of sadness as well. This was a trip we were supposed to go on together. Unfortunately about 2 weeks prior to the trip he broke his foot and was on bed rest by order of the doctor for at least the next month or so. I have a family friend spending time with him, keeping him company until I come back home. It hurt to leave without him but we both agreed that this was the best thing for me. I promised to take a lot of pictures and of course, to be careful. He tells me to have fun and I say I will and we end the call.
A few miles ahead and I pull off on a side road, heading to the parking area. Pulling into a spot, I park. Running the plan through my head yet again, I take the keys from the ignition, shoving them into my pocket and climbing out of the car. Heading for the trunk I grab the overstuffed bag I'd brought.
Grabbing it, I swing the pack over my shoulder putting one strap over my shoulder and then the other.
Time to go find my spot.
I head to the trail.
After about an hour, I turn and head deep into the woods. Looking for a level spot, it takes a bit and I stumble over a root or two but eventually I find a spot to set up my tent. Setting my pack down, I pull out a light with a stand and set it up. Grabbing a flashlight from my pack, I get to work grabbing twigs and stick for a decent fire. I grab by the armful, dumping it beside the previously used camp site.
Scooping up a few handfuls of leaves, I dump it about a dozen feet away. Grabbing my fire starter log and my torch, I place the log in the pit and ignite the torch. When the two make contact, a bright flame begins to appear and soon a stable fire burns. After clearing away everything and setting up, I'm exhausted and decide to skip the tent for the night. I'd been on a dozen camping trips using just a sleeping bag and a fire and enjoyed it quite a bit.
The birds continue to sing as they had since I'd arrived. I know soon it'll be replaced by the peaceful chorus of crickets. Lying my sleeping bag on the ground a dozen feet or so from the fire, I climb in and fall into a deep sleep.
I wake with a start when I hear a noise in the darkness. Freezing, I listen intently. Peeking slightly to the left, I see the fire had died. Grabbing ahold of the double bladed knife I'd brought, I wait. Hoping it may just be a curious animal or even a squirrel, I try to relax and go back to sleep.
Then I hear it.
It's unmistakable.
The sounds of footsteps.
It's close.
Best guess, 200 feet away.
I hear by heart racing but I do everything in my power to stay as still and quiet as possible.
I won't attack unless necessary.
If I did need to, whatever it was needed to get closer.
The sounds of sticks snapping at the weight of whatever this thing is, it  makes me almost want to scream.
To startle it.
But as I hear it get closer, the blood freezes in my veins.
Breathing.
Whatever it is sounds large.
I can't take this thing down with a knife. Maybe I should just wait it out.
So I do, staying as still as I can as this thing moves closer. I feel like an idiot for letting the fire die out. I knew better, a foolish error due to exhaustion. One that might cost my life if this thing finds me. I listen as it breathes, stepping closer, the leaves crunching. Without light I can't tell what it is or if I'm truly in danger. So I wait. And wait.
Until finally it seems to lose interest and I hear it walk away.
Waiting a bit longer just to be safe, I toss another pack on the fire and a handful of thick tree branches and light the fire again.
Closing my eyes I do my best to relax. I didn't want to head back to the car in the dark with this thing walking around. It takes awhile but finally I manage to fall back asleep.
I wake again, startled out of my sleep. The fire is out again.
It shouldn't be out. That should've been enough for...
A chill runs down my spine.
The footsteps have returned.
It's back.
This time, it doesn't leave, whatever it is sounds like it's coming straight for me. I jump up, launching a large rock I had picked up. I don't hear it make contact...with anything.
The breathing becomes heavier.
Angrier.
Scrambling, I grab my flashlight and run. In moments, it rushes forward, right through where I'd just been standing, heading towards me. I sprint as fast as I can. I don't dare stop to point the light behind me.
Hopefully I can make it to the car.
I dodge a tree in the nick of time.
What is this thing?
Can I outrun it?
It sounds huge.
A bear?
Climbing a tree is out of the picture then. I have to get to the car.
I move the light back and forth in the the woods, looking for the path.
It should be right here.
I didn't head deeply in the woods, maybe a few hundred feet from the path. I headed in the same direction as before. What the hell is going on? It couldn't just disappear!
My breathing becomes heavier, my lungs ache. Branches cut and slice me as I run for my life.
It's getting closer.
I need to know.
I reach down, grabbing another large rock and duck behind a tree, throwing the rock S far as I can. The creature takes off after it and I breathe a sigh of relief and collapse against the tree, trying to ease my racing heart before it explodes.
Making my way through the trees yet again, I look for the path. Walking a dozen feet. Hundreds.
Nothing.
In any direction.
I'm lost.
Breathe, breathe.
I head for the campsite, but it's as if I'd been dropped off in a completely different location. I'm lost with nothing but my flashlight.
Then I hear it again.
Shining my light, I see nothing.
Just trees, rocks and leaves.
But I still hear it.
Without a better plan, I take off again, sure of the direction this time. It sprints behind me, catching up more and more with each passing leap it makes. Whatever it is, it isn't being the least stealthy anymore, snarling and yowling behind me. I run, my legs almost giving out. Jumping over a fallen long, I take a left, then a right, hoping it'll lose sight of me. It won't give up, even carelessly crashing into bushes and trees, snapping off branches, unfazed. I can hear it all.
I'm never going to see my Dad again. He's going to be alll alone. What if he never finds out what happened to me? Will it really kill me?
It's even closer now, almost on my heels. I see a hill, with no choice I rush down trying as hard as I can not to fall, but I trip and roll with a scream. It's coming up behind me, shrieking with joy. Desperate to protect myself, I tuck my knees into my chest, using my arms to shield myself as best as possible.
It's screaming now.
I feel blinding pain.
Then... there's just nothing.

Chapter Four:
Lorelei's POV:
Rebekah and I stand within a few feet of one another in the heat of an argument.
"I think I've had enough of you." Rebekah says fangs extended
"What the hell is your problem with me?" I demand
"Everything was fine until you arrived." Rebekah snaps then her tone gets darker, more threatening. "It's be best if you disappeared."
I can tell where she's going with this. To her, I'm a threat. Her competition.
My eyes glow and she lets out a hiss as she lunges at me. We tumble onto the ground throwing punches. She hits me hard on the jaw, my punch hits her right in the shoulder. We both stumble to our feet and move towards one another again when suddenly Nik appears between us making us halt.
"Was I not clear about the rules in this house?" He demands coldly looking from Rebekah to me
She glares at him and I look away.
Nik pulls something out of his pocket. The second Rebekah sees it her face goes pale, eyes wide.
It's a thin silver dagger.
"You can't be trusted little sister. I warned you not to cause trouble. Seems to me you need some time to think about your actions." He says
"No Nik I-"
Before she can finish he stabs her in the chest and I watch as she desiccates, her skin turning from a creamy white to a dark grey.
Did he seriously just kill her?
I stand there stunned as he places her on the couch.
"Relax love. She's alive. She's awake but unable to move. I'm going to put her where she won't cause any more trouble."
I nod wondering what'll happen to me if I step out of line.

Chapter Three:
I'm not too sure of how to keep myself occupied around here. I'd never really been in a house before now. I grew up living in a tent with my parents as most of the pack did. When they died suddenly I was left in a tent all by myself.
I close my eyes as I lie on the bed and drift off to sleep.
The first face I dream of is my old Alpha Hector. He's a sadistic man who only cares for power. He has no family except for the pack. Rumors swirled for awhile that he had killed his family causing him to trigger his curse. The rumors stopped when one of the gossipers was launched off the highest cliff on Tray Mountain.
This is how he dealt with rule breakers, if you were lucky you were outcasted like I was for ruining the pack's turning tradition. Otherwise, you'd be thrown.
Long story short, Hector would pair up young girls and boys and we'd fight to the death. One in each pair would trigger their curse. The other would die. This is how he kept the population of our pack under control. I was outcasted for saving a little girl's life. Her name is Emma. I haven't seen her since they relocated.
Hector has to relocate quite a bit due to the enemies he's made over the years. He wants to be the most feared pack in Georgia and that means taking out the others.
I try to think of something else but it doesn't work. Instead, I slip into a nightmare.
I'm running in the woods as fast as my legs will go. I want to turn but know that there's no time. Sharp branches slice my skin as I run and I try to catch a glance of what's chasing me but I don't see anything.
Then it happens.
I trip on a rock and fall, screaming as I fall through a large black tunnel of nothingness.
Suddenly I'm jolted awake.
I let out a wolf growl, eyes glowing and turn to face whoever touched me, my heart still racing from the dream.
It's Nik. He immediately takes a step back, unsure of what to do, not sure if I'll attack.
I snap out of it and my eyes turn back to their normal green instead of the glowing golden shade they turn for most werewolves.
"You were screaming." He says
"Sorry it's just a nightmare from my old life." I say sitting up and propping my arms on my knees.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asks
"No offense Nik but why do you care? Is this just so you can get information out of me? You want the truth? My life was hell. Treated like a servant girl for my Alpha who could care less if I lived or died."
He doesn't speak for a long moment.
Then he sits down beside me on the bed.
"Love look at me."
Of course, I do.
"We made a deal, yes. I know how it seems but you are in no danger here. I will protect you from your entire pack if you desire. I will keep you safe, you have my word."
I nod, taking that information in.
He holds out a hand and I take it.
We walk downstairs and out into the sunlight.
"I know how it seems but you are not a prisoner here. I don't want you out by yourself for your own safety. I made the rules and I need you to abide by them. If at anytime you want to end this deal, you need to let me know and you'll be free to leave."

Chapter Two:
Lorelei's POV:
I wake up the next morning to a note beside me on the small table next to the bed. It's funny I don't remember coming into the house or falling asleep.
Odd.
I sit up and grab it.
Rules:
1. You will do as you are instructed.
2. Unless accompanied by me, you will not leave this house.
3. Do not fight with my siblings.
Read these rules and follow them.
- Klaus
I walk downstairs into the living room. Nik sits there, ankle propped up on his knee reading a book.
"What are you reading?" I ask unsure of what to say
"Maybe it's a book on anger management. Nik could always use a refresher." A blonde haired woman says walking in from outside. He rolls his eyes at the joke.
Her blue eyes scan me up and down.
"Who might you be?" She asks
"Lorelei." I say
"So we're just letting anyone in here?" The woman asks
"You haven't much room to talk little sister. Didn't you have a male sneaking out of your bed last night?" Nik says
Ah. Sister.
She gives him a dirty look and he smirks.
"How long will she be here?" She asks as if I'm not in the room
"However long I desire. Lorelei and I have an arrangement you needn't involve yourself in Rebekah." Nik says with a low tone
Rebekah simply turns and walks away annoyed.

Chapter One:
Lorelei's POV:
It's cold out tonight and I regret taking my jacket. I don't go into town too often. I eat mostly in wolf form since I can the at will. The wind whips around me and I feel a chill go down my spine. I shiver.
I'm walking down the street into the woods back to where I live.
I'm walking through and stop dead in my tracks.
There's about 6 vampires in between me and my way home.
After getting exhiled from my old pack up in Tray Mountain, I moved to TBD Mountain.
"Looks like we got us a wolf." A vampire hisses
"Back off unless you want to piss of an entire wolf pack." I growl at the vampires
"Oh yeah what pack would that be?" He sneers
"The Tray Pack." I say
If I bite him, it's a death sentence.
A few months ago I had befriended a witch who gave me a moonlight ring. In exchange, I took care of a small vampire problem she had had. With full access to my ability to turn, werewolf venom and my strength, it was a piece of cake.
The vampire moves closer, unafraid.
I can tell he's just recently been turned so I know I can take him.
I crouch down and spring myself towards him before he can react. I leap onto a nearby crate and launch myself around him, sinking my fangs into his neck and poisoning him with my venom. He screams for a short moment then I snap his neck and he crumples to the ground.
"Effective." A man says
He's got blonde hair and blue eyes and is wearing a dark blue t shirt, black leather jacket and dark blue jeans.
"Thanks." I say as I turn to walk away
Two vampires block my path.
"I'm sorry love but you aren't leaving."
"Why the hell not?"
"You said you are from the Tray wolf pack? Well I'm in need of some information."
I roll my eyes at him.
What vampire is interested in my old pack?
"How about a deal? If I win, you leave me alone." I say
I don't care much for this but I'd like to go home. I can hold my own and if this is what it takes, so be it.
"Very well but if I win you will serve me."
"What does that mean?" I ask confused
"Exactly what I said."
The vampires form a circle around us and we stand facing one another. He motions for me to start and I punch him as hard as I can and I feel a sharp pain in my fingers. I curse and shake my hand. It's not broken.
Part of turning every full moon means I break every bone in my body for hours on end.
That's hell but after?
Running in the full moon's light out in the woods?
That's everything.
He easily grabs my arm, yanks me forward then knocks my feet out from under me, slamming me to the ground.
He chuckles.
"Love I am Nikklaus Mikaelson. Original Hybrid. Many have tried to beat me, none have succeeded."
An Original Hybrid? Hybrid of what? Part vampire part...something.
"Think about it love." He says
Then I seem his face change. Veins appear under his eyes, normal vampire facial expression but then the irises of his eyes turn gold. Wolf eyes.
Werewolf and vampire.
He holds out his hand but I bat him away. He's hot but I'm not stupid.
He made the deal knowing he's win.
We walk out into the street over to his parked car. He opens the passenger side door and I climb in. Then he walks over to his side and turns the car on and closes the door.
We drive off silently into the night.

Welcome to the preview of:
Tumblr media
Intro:
My name is Lorelei and I'm the submissive of Nikklaus Mikaelson.
Original hybrid.
It's a crazy story full of vampire fights, werewolves and some crazy fucking witches.
Now I know you're thinking I'm crazy to be with Nik but it didn't start out with "love at first sight" bullshit.
It actually started out with a couple murders and a bad deal and I'll tell you all about it but be warned, this isn't for the faint of heart.
