Revenge || Bucky x reader AU || Part One

Summary : You hate Bucky Barnes and he hates you back, but what happens when you have to team up against someone you both hate even more ? Pairing : Bucky x reader

Word count : 2541

A/N : This is the first part of the Revenge series and I’m super excited ! I hope you will enjoy it, tell me what you think. English is not my mother tongue, sorry for the potential mistakes. 🖤   There will be more relationship development and dialogue in the next parts!

This party had just begun but you already wanted to go back to your place, far from all these people who seemed to have nothing in common with you. The music was extremely loud yet you could hear uninteresting conversations from here and there, but the only person you were looking for was nowhere to be seen. You were about to give up when a warm hand grabbed your wrist, making you turn around. The sight of this way too familiar face was enough to make your eyes roll, and now you were a hundred percent sure of this : this party was a nightmare.  

  « What do you want, Barnes ?» you sighed, not even trying to be polite. « You’re always so lovely to me Y/N » he said with his usual sarcasm « Actually, I was wondering if you wanted to be a part of my revenge plan. »

  As long as you remembered, you always hated James Barnes. His audacity, his pretentious behavior, the way he talked, the way he laughed at everything and everyone. Sadly you and him had the same friends and this meant that you had to spend time together. Tonight was no different, your friend Nat invited you to this huge party along with Wanda, Sharon, Steve, Thor and his antipathetic brother, Bucky and last but not least, your boyfriend Pietro. You were searching for him when the despicable and annoying James Buchanan Barnes caught your attention.  

« Your revenge plan ? What kind of silly project is that and why would you want my help, out of all these people ? » you complained, gesturing towards the dozens of persons surrounding you two. « I want your help » he declared, getting closer « because when you’re gonna hear what I have to say, you’ll probably want to get that revenge just as much as I do. »  

This caught you off guard. He was angry. He was very, very angry. You hadn’t payed attention to it because you were focusing on finding Pietro, but Bucky looked mad. You frowned, clearly intrigued and you knew he could feel it.

  « What are you talking about, Barnes ? What happened ? »

  He laughed. Yet he wasn’t amused, not a single bit. It was a strangely unsettling laugh, full of irony and now you were not sure if you really wanted to know the answer to your question.

  « My girl just cheated on me » he said, looking straight into your eyes « and she cheated with Pietro. »

  Bucky didn’t let you any time to answer or even think about it. He spoke again, calmly but with insurance and a clear rage.

  « So, are you in ? »

Six days had passed since that disastrous party, and you had spent those six days locked up in your apartment thinking about all this mess. How could everything have gone wrong in so little time? At first, you thought that Bucky had lied but even James Barnes would never do something so awful, and you had doubted Pietro’s loyalty for a few weeks but you chose to trust him. Idiot. He had tried to call you several times and even came knocking on your door, but you never answered. Then sorrow left and anger came, making you reconsider Bucky’s offer. On the one hand it seemed childish and useless, but on the other hand, the idea of making Pietro suffer just like he made you suffer was tempting.  You slowly got out of your bed, which had been your refuge for the last few days and went to take a shower. The hot water running on your body awakened your sleeping muscles, giving you enough strength to finally decide to go to Barnes’. You then put on the first clothes you found in your closet and a big coat while texting the guy. 

  To : Barnes 💀 At : 11:05 a.m I’m in, Barnes. Will be at your place in 10, you better be there.

Could you write one where you and Bucky have an ugly fight bc he compared you to his ex Natasha? Just angsty stuff that ends in fluff pls

« That’s not what I fucking meant and you know it! » he’s screaming at that point, as he keeps following you around the room. You stop walking suddenly and turn around to face him, your eyes throwing knives and your hands clenched into fists.

« Well that’s what you fucking said Bucky ! Natasha was less of a pain in the ass, uh ? » you don’t even feel the tears starting to run down your cheeks and you keep getting closer to him, until your face is only inches from his « She was less difficult to live with, is that it ? Now why don’t you just get your things and go back to her ! »

« You gotta be joking, right ? » his eyes are searching for yours but you can’t look at him anymore, you don’t want to. He doesn’t even seem to realize how much these words just hurt you, how insecure you’ve always felt about his previous relationship with Natasha. She is beautiful, smart and better at everything, how could you not compare yourself to her ? But having Bucky doing it felt so much worse. It ended a long time ago and he always told you he had moved on, but in the end it seemed he didn’t and now you could feel your heart twisting in your chest.

His body tenses when he sees your tears, and he is completely destabilized when you don’t answer. He knew at the minute he had said these words that a big fight would follow so he was ready to hear you scream, but not to have to endure this silence. « You need to talk to me Y/N. Scream at me, hit me, punch me in the face if you want to but please say something now. » he’s not shouting anymore, the shakes in his voice betraying his apprehension.

You close your eyes as hard as you can, covering your face with your hands as you turn your back to him. It’s so stupid, you think, breaking down for a little comment; but you had kept all these insecurities and all this anxiety to yourself for way too long and now it was exploding inside. You open your mouth several times but not a single word comes out, your breath stuck in your throat as you’re sobbing by now. And behind you, Bucky stands powerless and heartbroken seeing you like this by his fault.

You hear him getting closer, and he hesitates before gently wrapping his arms around you, his chest now pressed against your back. You don’t have the strength nor the will to push him away, you just want it to end, to forget it ever happened. He holds you a little tighter when you don’t resist, burying his head in your neck. You feel his heart beating against your back, fast at first but it slows down as the seconds past, helping calming you down. You feel one of his hands caressing your cheek, wiping off your last tears. « I’m so sorry baby » he whispers against your neck, dropping a few wet kisses on your skin. « I didn’t mean a word I said, d’you hear me ? »

You just nod and your eyes shut once again, as you start to relax in his warm embrace.  « I want you. I want you and only you. » his lips travel to your shoulder, where he plants another kiss before making you turn around. His hands gently cup your cheeks and he waits till you look at him to whisper again, pressing his forehead against yours without breaking eye contact « I can’t take it back and I know it’ll take some time to fix this but I will. You’re enough Y/N, more than enough and nobody’s worth more than you, d’you hear me doll ? »

His words make their way to your brain and you take a deep breath, grabbing his shirt to pull him closer. The man is an idiot, but you know he means what he says. You’ve never seen him like this before, so soft and sorry. His thumbs are still brushing your cheek when he leans in a little more to press his lips against yours. You melt against his lips and he soon kisses you harder, wrapping his metal arm around your waist. He groans when you start pulling his hair, smiling against his parted lips, and finally this kiss feels like you’re both saying I want you, I need you, I love you.
