More light leaks on the Roleimat. Two photos are five to six years apart. The tall tree is from April of 2024. This tree along with its cohorts have been my walking companions for several years.
The boardwalk is from a walkabout five, maybe six years ago. I would have been disappointed with the light leaks then. But today they feel fresh and new. I'm sure my eyes have changed, and I have changed to be able to welcome these defects.

A friend gave me a Roleimat AF-M. There is a bad light leak but I am shooting with it anyway. I tried the on-board flash. When I slid the button, the flash popped up from the body and the camera gave a whine that brought be back instantly to when I was 5 years old and dad would turn on the flash on our only Olympus camera. We brought out the Olympus only for birthdays and special outings with out-of-town guests. I started craving cake. Then I took a shot of my homemade bookshelf.

The second photo is our back porch that is at its cleanest just before we sat down with our friends for our monthly Supper Club. I believe this was Irish month. The best dish was the Guiness flavored Chocolate Cake a friend made.

I've let the 28mm Nikkor lens sit for far too long. I took it for a spin on the Nikon FE with an old color film. It's been great fun to photograph my neighborhood and some old trees that have weathered decades of hurricanes. Some have even been trimmed by the power company to make room for power lines. They hold fast doing their thing.

I’ve been thinking about 6x17 photography lately. We were riding around on our electric scooters and going places we shouldn’t have. This scene presented itself. I took a photo with my iPhone and cropped it to what could be a 6x17 format. I wasn’t precise. It felt like a start where I train my eye to see in a new format.

I've developed a handful of old rolls that I shot but never sent to the labs. Many were test photos when I was trying out a new-to-me old camera. This was probably taken in 2014, I'm not sure. Perhaps it took my eyes to look away from photography for five years, perhaps it took my brain to look away from IG for five years, because it seems now I judge my own photos less harshly than I used to back in 2018.

This was one of the last shoots I did in 2018 before stopping portraiture and photography. I wrote to a friend this week that I had plateaued in 2018 and lost the gumption to keep going with portraiture. I found these scans in my dropbox still tucked in The Darkroom Lab's zip files. I can't remember which rolls these are, probably Porta 160. I used to love low-grain slow speed film. I think I still do.
I had probably looked at these photos once or twice in 2018 and thought they were repeating the work that I had been doing, more evidence of my plateaued art. Today these two photos jumped out among the three rolls of 120 film. Maybe it is the 5 year hiatus that renewed my eyes to see, instead of glazing over. I can't even remember how I used to edit portraits, though I remember I had an intricate system in either Lightroom or Photoshop. I fired up "Preview" app on the Mac and played with the rudimentary "Adjust Color" feature to produce these two photos.
I have picked up the camera again, only to see where it takes me, if it will let be climb back on board once again.
