Experimental portrait of Belle “Old Blue,” one of six warlords of the continent. Each lord rules a different nation. I’ll get around to doing new portraits for all of them eventually. Belle is the eldest of the leaders, and she refuses to retire.

Warlord lore (mainly for my own memory)-

The six warlords came into power during The Continental War (during which the southern and western coasts came under attack by outside nations.) They were appointed by the king/central government, one for each nation.

Each was chosen for their physical strength and prowess in battle. They include (from eldest to youngest) Belle, Rattler, Dainn, R’wyn, Ochre, and Kahn.

The lords were very successful in their original purpose; defending the continent and securing victory in the war. However, each leader was allowed to continue their rule over their respective nations during the following times of peace which caused varying issues. While most of them were quite adept at leading their men into battle, they weren’t particularly equipped to deal with rebuilding a country or helping their citizens on a day to day basis.

The most successful and well-liked lord is Kahn, as he is a particularly kind and wise young man who was able to adapt to his new role fairly well. Rattler also did decently well, as he understood his shortcomings as a gruff old sea captain, and sought a counsel of advisers to help him rule. Dainn has a similar outlook to Rattler, and is known to be of strong character and mind.

The most feared and divisive leader is Ochre; she is brutal and chooses to funnel money into her pockets through “morally grey” means.

As most of the warlords near retirement, many citizens call for a new age of leadership, one with more balanced and knowledgeable rulers.

Haven’t drawn fresh Jude art in a hot minute, I’ve fleshed him out more recently.

Those blades in his mouth are known as “steel teeth” and are his main weapon of choice. They are gripped between the user’s teeth and lips, where they have a leather wrap at the base. They are uncomfortable and very difficult to yield, so he is one of very few to master them.

(Inspired by the very real practice of shuaya, which obviously could never be used in this way but uhhhh)
