Emotional Fans Say, “We Really Miss Virat Kohli,” Regarding the Former India Captain’s Absence From the First Test
A ‘personal problem’ kept Virat Kohli out of the first two Test matches against England.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad was filled with spectators before the first Test match between India and England began on Wednesday. Before the match, a fan expressed his sadness for former India captain Virat Kohli to ANI.
He is thrilled for Rohit Sharma, the captain, though. Telugu fans have a tremendous amount of love for Virat Kohli, hence we truly miss him. He is missed when he plays in Hyderabad. But seeing Captain Rohit Sharma excites me so much,” a supporter remarked.
Tumblr media
In the meantime, a different fan wished for the hosts to win the opening Test match against England.
“India will triumph. India will win the match, no doubt about it,” an additional supporter told ANI.
India captain Rohit Sharma has already said that they are not concerned with England’s style of play, stating that “Bazball” against spin will be the story of the five-match series.
When England batted flawlessly in 2012, thanks to the heroics of Monty Panesar, Graeme Swann, and James Anderson with the ball, they won the series in India. That was the last time England had won a series on Indian soil.
The only team to nearly draw a Test series on Indian soil since then is Australia (2016)–2017. As the Indian batsman Shubman Gill attempts to take over the No. 3 place, which belonged to Cheteshwar Pujara until 2023, he will be in the spotlight during the spin against ‘Bazball’.
A new chapter in Indian Test cricket history will begin with the opening Test on Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. For the first time since November 2011, the hosts will field a playing XI in a Test match without Ajinkya Rahane, Pujara, or Kohli.

Ahead to the West Indies Test, Covid hits the Australian squad
Players are permitted to compete under Covid procedures even if they do not receive a negative test during the next 24 hours, but they are required to remain isolated from the other players.
Before the second Test matchup against the West Indies, Australia’s team was afflicted by Covid-19. On Wednesday, coach Andrew McDonald and all-rounder Cameron Green became the most recent casualties of the illness.
Tumblr media
After the first Test in Adelaide last week, which the home team won by 10 wickets, they were ill after Travis Head, a batter, contracted Covid. Since then, he has tested negative, and on Thursday, the second day-night Test series involving him will begin in Brisbane.
Green and McDonald are anticipated to participate in the match as well, unless they feel unwell.
Cricket Australia released a statement saying, “Until they return a negative test, Cameron Green and Andrew McDonald will be separated from the group.”
“It will not hinder Green taking part in or McDonald attending the match in line with CA protocols.”
Players who do not receive a negative result within the next 24 hours are still permitted to compete according to Covid protocols, but they must remain isolated from the other players.
Australia will start the encounter unaltered after Usman Khawaja, who was hit in the head late in the Adelaide game, passed concussion tests.
The team’s experience with pink-ball Tests, according to captain Pat Cummins, should work in their favor.
Cricket Australia released a statement saying that Cameron Green and Andrew McDonald would be apart from the team until they receive negative test results.
“It will not hinder Green taking part in or McDonald attending the match in line with CA protocols.”
Players are permitted to compete under Covid procedures even if they do not receive a negative test during the next 24 hours, but they are required to remain isolated from the other players.
Australia will start the encounter unchanged after Usman Khawaja, their opener, passed concussion tests following a blow to the head late in the Adelaide game.
The fact that his squad has experience with pink-ball Tests, according to captain Pat Cummins, could be advantageous.
“No doubt playing a pink-ball Test almost every year, and some Shield cricket over the years with the pink ball, helps us familiarise ourselves … perhaps better than oppositions can, just by experience,” he told the media.

Virat Kohli withdraws from the first two England Tests; BCCI Issues A Strong Message
Star batsman Virat Kohli has chosen to skip the first two Test matches against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Monday, citing “personal reasons.”
Star batsman Virat Kohli has chosen to skip the first two Test matches against England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Monday, citing “personal reasons.” The BCCI said in an official statement that Kohli discussed his absence with team management and captain Rohit Sharma, and that they offered their support to the cricket player.
“Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming Test series against England, citing personal reasons,” the BCCI stated in an official statement.
Tumblr media
“Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention,” the statement went on to say.
Kohli was forced to fly to London, thus he missed the first Twenty20 International match against Afghanistan for “personal reasons.” Earlier in the week, he also skipped an intrasquad game in South Africa.
In addition, the BCCI statement requested that the media refrain from “speculating on the nature of his personal reasons” and stated that an announcement regarding Kohli’s replacement will be made in the next few days.
“The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series.”
“Virat Kohli’s privacy is being respected during this time, and the BCCI asks the media and fans to refrain from making assumptions about the nature of his personal reasons. Supporting the Indian cricket team as they take on the forthcoming obstacles in the Test series should continue to be the major priority, the statement said.

Before Sania Mirza, Here’s An Interesting Story Of Shoaib Malik’s ‘First Wife’
Shoaib Malik married Sania Mirza in 2010, however he had previously married another woman, Ayesha Siddiqui, by telephone in 2002.
Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shoaib Malik astonished the sporting world when he released photos of his wedding to actress Sana Javed. The announcement verified rumours of his divorce with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, which her family confirmed in a social media post the following day. However, few are aware that Sania was not Shoaib’s first wife. Sania and Shoaib married in 2010. They have a son named Izhaan Mirza Malik. However, Shoaib apparently married another woman, whom he had to divorce, before beginning a new life with the Indian tennis star.
A dispute emerged just before Shoaib’s wedding to Sania in 2010, when a woman named Ayesha Siddiqui from Hyderabad claimed to have married Shoaib in 2002.
While Shoaib rejected the charges, Ayesha, also known as Maha Siddiqui, decided to submit a police report and exhibit video evidence of their wedding.
According to reports, the two came to an agreement in which the Pakistani cricketer agreed to divorce Ayesha and pay her INR 15 crore in alimony.
Tumblr media
The most intriguing aspect of Shoaib and Ayesha’s marriage was that it was a ‘telephonic nikah’. In an interview with the Times News Network, Shoaib discussed conducting a telephonic nikah without even seeing his bride. The player, who was only 20 years old at the time, had only a few photos of Ayesha with him, and the two spoke on the phone on a regular basis. But, not long after, Shoaib was duped into marrying Ayesha, who was not even the girl he saw in images.
While Ayesha kept making excuses and refusing to meet Shoaib, she told the cricketer in 2002 that she wanted to marry him right away because the news of their relationship was all over the media, making life tough for her family.
“This episode took place in 2002. Ayesha encouraged us to marry. I wanted to marry her, but I didn’t want to rush into it. For starters, I had never met her. She proposed that we do a telephone nikah immediately away. I couldn’t tell my parents about a telephone nikah because it was not how they intended me to marry.
I was only 20 years old at the time, and Ayesha was putting a lot of pressure on me to marry because she said her family was losing face in Hyderabad since word had spread that we were dating. One morning in June 2002, I strolled out of my house, went to a friend’s shop, and called. “I got a nikahnama and signed it, thinking the girl I was marrying was the one in the pictures,” Shoaib stated in the interview.
Shoaib realized in August 2005 that the female he was talking to on the phone was not the same as the one he had seen in images. When he challenged Ayesha about it, she also revealed the truth.
Shoaib considered distributing the pictures he had with him, but Ayesha advised him not to do so because the girl in the photographs was already married. Malik opted not to disclose the images because she feared it would ruin her life.

Mohammed Shami is most likely going to miss the entire Test series between India and England. Due to an ankle ailment, the fast bowler has not played since the World Cup final. In the first two Tests between India and England, he was not mentioned.
However, BCCI anticipated that he will play in the final three Tests. Doctors have recommended that he see a specialist in London, nevertheless, after he reported to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
He will be accompanied to the UK by Nitin Patel, Head of NCA’s Sports Science Division. Mohammed Shami will therefore probably miss the final three IND vs. ENG Tests as well. Mohammed Shami reported to the NCA earlier this week for an injury evaluation, as previously reported by InsideSport.

Australia will keep an eye on Khawaja following his jaw injury in Adelaide
Australia won by ten wickets in just seven sessions, but Khawaja had to be replaced due to damage sustained from a short delivery from Shamar Joseph that struck his helmet.
Usman Khawaja, the opener for Australia against the West Indies, is questionable for the second test due to a knock to his jaw suffered on Friday during the series opener in Adelaide.
Tumblr media
Australia won by 10 wickets in just seven sessions, however Khawaja had to be replaced due to damage sustained from a short delivery from Shamar Joseph that struck his helmet.
Before rising off the ground, the 37-year-old spat blood and felt his jaw.
Despite passing the initial concussion test, he was sent for scans and would get another evaluation on Saturday.
Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, stated, “He seemed okay, just a little sore jaw.”
“Hopefully he’s alright, nobody wants to watch a guy get hurt while playing this amazing game.”
If Khawaja is unable to play, Matthew Renshaw is most likely to take his place in Brisbane.
Australia selected a fresh opening duo when David Warner retired, with Steve Smith rising from number four to bat alongside Khawaja at the top of the order.

SA women hope to turn fortunes against Australia on the Down Under tour
The South African women’s cricket team has a mountain to climb when they face Australia on home soil in a multi-format tour from January 27 to February 18.
Of course, there’s a sense of vengeance in the air after the Proteas were defeated by the Aussies in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Newlands in Cape Town last year.
Tumblr media
The Down Under tour will include three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals. The two countries will then play their first-ever test match.
Australia now leads both the T20I and ODI global rankings, leaving the Proteas (3rd in the ODI rankings and 5th in the T20I rankings) with a tough task. South Africa’s best ODI result versus Australia was a stalemate in November 2016, and they are 0-7 in T20Is.
The Proteas, led once again by Laura Wolvaardt as captain, need every bit of opposition they can get as they prepare for the September 2024 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. The return of Chloé Tryon, who was away on recent international duty, strengthens the team. Ayanda Hlubi, who was called up to the national team for T20I duty last year, will now play in some ODI matches in Australia.
Hilton Moreeng, the head coach, has voiced his faith in his team, stating that there is a nice balance between experience and youth.
We look forward to building on the fantastic year we had as a team in 2023. Our trip to Bangladesh ended well, and we were able to accomplish our goals and learn more about the game and the red ball.
The chosen squad is really competitive and well-balanced, and we are very confident heading into Australia since we also discussed our abilities with the white ball, where we are going, and what is needed.
Moreeng, who has been a coach for 12 years, just had his contract extended till the end of the 2023–2024 campaign. He’ll also be in charge of a home series against Sri Lanka beginning near the end of March after returning from Australia. The hunt is still on for his replacement.
The same 15 players that recently toured India, where they won the ODI and T20I series, will represent Australia against South Africa in the meantime. According to selector Shawn Flegler, they are excited to meet the Proteas since “South Africa were formidable opponents in the T20 World Cup final in Cape Town.”

Rinku Singh Shares MS Dhoni’s Message About Batting at No. 6
India trounced Afghanistan by six wickets in the opening Twenty20 International at Mohali on Thursday.
MS Dhoni was renowned for getting the most out of his players while serving as captain of the Indian squad. From Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma, Dhoni guided the development of numerous young players who went on to become the game’s greatest players. Dhoni is still teaching the current group of players that winning mindset, even after he retired from international cricket.
Tumblr media
Even though he is nearing the end of his cricket career, the former India wicketkeeper-batter is still molding young players who will go on to be the best in the game.In the opening T20 International in Mohali on Thursday, India defeated Afghanistan by six wickets.
Following the game, Indian batsman Rinku Singh talked about his conversation with Dhoni and how his insights had helped him adapt his style of play to fit the demands of the international game.” I make an effort to converse with myself, telling myself that anything can happen when I bat sixth.
When I chatted with Mahi bhai during the most recent IPL, he told me that it’s better the more composed you are. Observe the bowler’s movements and adjust your strategy accordingly. Rinku stated on news outlets following the game, “If I think too much, things can go wrong for me (laughs), so I see what the bowler is doing instead.”
With a fantastic start to his T20I career, Rinku has amassed 278 runs from nine innings at an amazing average of 69.50 since making his debut last year, following an incredible IPL season.
As an Indian batsman, Rinku has honed his skill at winning matches while batting down the order. He currently has the following T20I scores: 38, 37, 22, 31, 46, 6, 68, 14. During a pivotal partnership that won the match, he also struck an undefeated sixteen.
As India won the match with 15 balls remaining, Dube scored an undefeated 60. Following the game, Dhoni’s partner at CSK, the all-rounder, too emphasized how important Dhoni has been to his recent career.
“I wanted to use the knowledge I had gained from MS Dhoni regarding winning games when I took the field. I talk to Mahi bhai all the time. He gives me advice on how to handle various circumstances. Dube informed the broadcasters, “He has graded my batting and given me two or three tips.”
“I’ll keep playing well if he thinks well of my batting, in my opinion. That made me feel more confident. It’s critical for a batsman to close out games in a T20, so contributing to the team’s success felt great, he continued.

Sumit Nagal Won The Australian Open First Round With Just Rs 80,000 in the Bank
In the Australian Open 2024, Sumit Nagal overcame Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, ranked number 27, to advance to the second round.
On Tuesday, Sumit Nagal, the top-ranked singles tennis player in India, upset Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, rated number 27, to advance to the second round of the Australian Open 2024. In a match that lasted two hours and forty-eight minutes, Nagal prevailed 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (7/5)—a stunning victory.
Tumblr media
This was the first Grand Slam match in which an Indian tennis player defeated a seeded opponent since 1989. The previous time it happened was in 1989, when Ramesh Krishnan defeated the reigning Australian Open winner and world number one, Mats Wilander. One of Nagal’s greatest career triumphs, it marked a substantial improvement for the tennis player who had been making news due to his difficulties.
In an interview with PTI in 2023, Nagal disclosed his financial difficulties, stating that he needed to spend about Rs. 1 crore a year to stay afloat on the ATP Tour and that the most money he had in his account was about Rs. 80,000.
“If I check my bank account balance, it is the same as it was at the start of the year. It’s worth 900 euros, or roughly 80,000 rupees. It did help a little bit. I receive a monthly salary from IOCL and assistance from Mr. Prashant Sutar with the MAHA Tennis Foundation, but I don’t have any major sponsors,” Nagal said in an interview with news sources.
After the interview, the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) and the well-known beverage firm PepsiCo India provided him with assistance. For the tennis player, receiving financial assistance was essential, and his performance in the Australian Open thus far has been the ideal conclusion of his quest.
Following his lack of a wildcard admission into the Australian Open, Nagal participated in the qualification matches. With three straight victories, he secured his spot and ultimately made approximately AUD 120,000.
Nagal advanced to the Australian Open’s second round for the first time with the victory over Bublik, which also brought him an additional AUD 180,000 (about Rs 98 lakh). The Indian player ranked 137th in the world will be participating in his second Grand Slam round of play.
In the second round, Nagal will now play Chinese wildcard Juncheng Shang. If Nagal wins, it will be the first time in his career that a tennis player has won a million Australian dollars (around AUD 255,000).

Iga Swiatek Is Ready For The Australian Open After A ‘Peaceful’ Off-Season
Tumblr media
Iga Swiatek said Friday that a “peaceful” off-season has made her more focused heading into the Australian Open, where she hopes to win her maiden Grand Slam championship.
Iga Swiatek, the world number one, said Friday that a “peaceful” off-season had helped her focus ahead of the Australian Open, where she hopes to win her maiden Grand Slam championship. The Polish top seed is in imperious form, having dropped only one set in five victories at the United Cup mixed-teams competition in Perth. She enters the year’s first Grand Slam as the favorite, on a 16-match winning streak that includes victories at the China Open and the WTA Finals. “It was nice to play some high-quality matches against the top players (at the United Cup),” stated the player. “I realized I’m feeling pretty confident, a little bit more confident than last year.” Hopefully, this mood will stick with me.”
Swiatek’s victory over Jessica Pegula in the WTA Finals in Cancun returned her to the top ranking slot she had occupied for much of the previous two seasons.
Still only 22, she said she had learnt to better handle the expectations that come with being world number one, and that she viewed her off-season differently.
“I’d say it was more peaceful. “I literally could only focus on practicing and resting,” she explained.
“I was really dedicated. I didn’t feel fatigued.
“I didn’t feel burdened with this off-court stuff.” I could truly simply concentrate. As if every day was truly perfect. That’s why I think I was a little bit better.”
Swiatek has four Grand Slam titles: three French Opens and one US Open. Her finest Melbourne achievement, however, was reaching the semi-finals in 2022.
She will begin her career with a repeat of the 2020 Roland Garros final versus Sofia Kenin, in which she won her maiden major title.
Kenin entered the match as the reigning Australian Open champion, but was defeated 6-4, 6-1 and dropped down the rankings.
But the American has moved from outside the top 200 to number 38 in a year, and Swiatek is worried.
“I played Sofia in my first Grand Slam final, and now we’re in the first round.” It’s quite strange. “That’s how our life paths diverged,” she explained.
“I’m aware she’s been playing some good tennis.” It will not be simple. I’ll just get ready the same way I always do.
“We’re going to discuss tactics.” We haven’t played in a long time.”
Whoever wins will face a second-round match against either 2016 Australian Open winner Angelique Kerber or 2022 Melbourne Park finalist Danielle Collins.

Brazil Says Farewell to Late Football Legend Mario Zagallo
Brazilians paid their condolences on Sunday to football hero Mario Zagallo, a four-time World Cup winner and coach who died at the age of 92.
On Sunday, Brazilians paid their tribute to football star Mario Zagallo, a four-time World Cup-winning player and coach who died at the age of 92 and was the last member of one of the country’s finest generations in the cherished sport.
Tumblr media
A steady stream of mourners, dressed in black, the yellow of the Brazilian national team, or the colors of the numerous clubs where Zagallo played and coached, filed past his coffin at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) headquarters, whose facade featured a giant banner in his honor.
Brazil’s record five World Cup trophies were on display near the lace-draped coffin. Zagallo, a small left-wing famed for his tactical acumen, was involved in four of them, more than any other player in football history.
The “Professor,” as he was called, was a member of Brazil’s World Cup-winning teams in 1958 and 1962.
He later coached Pele’s 1970 world champion squad, widely regarded as the best team in history, and served as an assistant coach when the “Selecao” repeated the feat in 1994.
“We’ve lost a sporting legend,” Bebeto, a member of the 1994 squad, stated.
“He was my second father,” he told journalists, echoing fellow World Cup champion Cafu (1994 and 2002).
Others who paid their tributes included former Brazil coach Tite and CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who delivered an emotional embrace to Zagallo’s son Mario Cesar.
‘Only one Zagallo’
Claudio Auvarenga, a 64-year-old driver, arrived early to be among the first to walk by the casket.
“You can travel the world and only find one Zagallo.” “No one else in history has won four World Cups,” he told AFP.
Eliana Gaia, 66, Zagallo’s longtime aide, described him as a “human being without equal.”
“He was a magnificent person, a hero,” she went on to say.
Following a public wake and a private service, Zagallo’s casket was lifted atop a bright red fire truck for a funeral cortege through Rio de Janeiro’s streets, as a small gathering of supporters applauded and shouted.
He was later laid to rest in the Sao Joao Batista cemetery, which is home to some of Brazil’s most famous individuals.
Zagallo died on Friday from multiple organ failure, following a string of health issues in recent months.
From Saturday, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has designated three days of national mourning.
Tributes from the football world have also flooded in.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino referred to Zagallo as a “tactical genius,” World Cup winners Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Romario praised him, and current Brazil and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior simply referred to him as a “LEGEND.”
Only Franz Beckenbauer of Germany (1974 and 1990) and Didier Deschamps of France (1998 and 2018) have won the World Cup as both player and coach.
Nostalgia for the good old days
Zagallo is remembered for his warm humor, strong superstition (he swore by the number 13), and fierce passion for the game.
After the famous Pele died in December 2022 at the age of 82, he was the only surviving starter from Brazil’s first World Cup-winning team in 1958.
The defeat comes at a terrible time in Brazilian football.
Brazil fired national team coach Fernando Diniz on Friday after the “Selecao,” who were missing injured sensation Neymar, suffered a humiliating string of losses in World Cup qualifiers.
Brazil is presently sixth in South American qualifying.
Dorival Junior, the coach of Sao Paulo, has been nominated to take over as coach of Brazil, according to the club, though the CBF has yet to confirm this.
CBF chief Rodrigues, who was reinstalled in the role on Thursday amid a lengthy legal struggle over the confederation’s leadership, told journalists at the wake that he “just want(ed) to talk about Zagallo today.”
“This is a time to talk about this legend of Brazilian and world football,” he went on to say.

Worries Still Regard Shreyas Iyer’s Short Ball Issues
Shreyas Iyer might find it challenging to completely alter his approach at the age of over thirty, given his established muscle memory.
Shreyas Iyer arrived for an optional training session and immediately strolled outside the Newlands Stadium for throwdowns, just before the start of the second Test in Cape Town. Along with batting instructor Vikram Rathour, the two throwdown gurus Nuwan Senaviratne, a southpaw side-armer, and Raghavendra were putting on a show from eighteen yards away.
Tumblr media
The intention was to prepare the showy Mumbaikar for short balls, which have plagued him in all forms of cricket since his debut. A few minutes into the workout, he launched one mean, short throwdown from eighteen yards into the body, which kicked up from length. The reduced distance traveled meant that there were more than 150 clicks.
The patch of flesh between his upper and lower abdomen was struck by the bat because it did not descend quickly enough.
He was groaning in pain and flung his bat. He remained in a squat, struggling to breathe, until the physiotherapist and other staff members arrived to see how he was doing.
The problem was not only technical but also psychological because Iyer didn’t appear at all at ease, but the Kolkata Knight Riders captain had no rivals because there wasn’t a good middle order reserve hitter in the lineup.
After six knockout games in SENA countries so far, his scores were as follows: 15 and 19 in Birmingham, 31 and 6 in Centurion, and 0 and 4 not out in Cape Town. It is currently less than 40 on his test average, down from around 50.
Iyer can undoubtedly be considered a master against spinners, and he should have no trouble confronting Chris Woakes or James Anderson to deliveries that are below knee roll.
However, when December 2024–25 rolls around on Australian tracks, Iyer’s problems will undoubtedly get worse if he doesn’t make a drastic technical shift in his game with appropriate head balance and perhaps a cheekier stance.
However, he is almost thirty years old and has developed muscle memory, so it might be challenging to turn his game around.
When a bouncer was bowled at Mohinder Amarnath’s right shoulder in the 1982–1983 season, he would take it on the body and hook it imperiously with his left shoulder. This was part of his slightly chest-on stance.
Iyer will have to blaze his own trail, but that’s easier said than done.
Iyer is a player whose main method of play is with his hands; his footwork is not very noticeable. He therefore consistently plays from the back foot, even on deliveries where he should be on the front foot, on bouncey tracks because he is mentally prepared for a short ball.
His feet are freezing because he believes he will only ever be given small balls to eat.
“My role is to instill trust in them. Regarding Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal—three of the greatest batsmen in Indian history—who found it difficult to deal with bounce, skipper Rohit Sharma remarked, “KL, Rohit, and Kohli, we have all learned from travelling.”
“They’ll discover what to do and don’t do. The situation is not the same in India. India is a very difficult country as well. In India, we have also witnessed similar wickets. Moving forward, it will also be difficult.
These kinds of situations are what you need to learn from. You gain confidence when you perform well in these circumstances, Rohit remarked.
Still, there are many who disagree. Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar stated in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo that he is “not so sure” about Iyer but believes Gill and Jaiswal will find out by the time the Australia tour arrives.
Iyer recently took exception at being questioned about his problems with short ball.
“What do you mean?” He had retorted that he believed it to be a fabricated perception.
Now that he’s in denial mode, Iyer could only be able to change his direction once he acknowledges that he has technical problems when playing short ball.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma is optimistic about getting 20 wickets
The stand-in skipper of South Africa, Dean Elgar, won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test at Cape Town.
One of the main reasons for the Indian cricket team to lose the first Test was their poor batting in the Centurion first innings, where they could only get 245 in tough conditions. While the toss played its part there, it remains to be seen if that will be a factor in the India vs. South Africa second Test.
Tumblr media
On Wednesday, captain Rohit Sharma once again lost the toss and was asked to bowl first, on a pitch that looked decent for batting. After the toss, Rohit said, “I would’ve batted first as well. It looks like a good pitch. We understand the challenge of batting first on that pitch, but nevertheless, there will be enough on the pitch for the seamers, so hopefully we’ll cash in on it.
Rohit added that it was important to move on from the first Test defeat and focus on getting 20 wickets. He said, “It is important to forget what’s happened in the past. We understand the importance of getting runs on the board and getting 20 wickets. It didn’t happen in the first game, but we’re upbeat about what we can achieve here. We have made two changes. Ravindra Jadeja comes back for R. Ashwin; Shardul Thakur misses out; Mukesh Kumar replaces him.”
