I think, being emotional is this thing that people think you’re not strong. They don’t look at you as a strong person, and it’s weird ‘cuz honestly being emotional has nothing to do with your strength.

Cry Baby (album) 4 Years Anniversary [August 14th, 2015] “My whole mission in general, ever since I was fourteen, was to write music that would help people heal… Music is like therapy for me, so I wanted to do that for other people or be that for other people. I’m just grateful that it’s resonating with that many people. I could not be more grateful, really.” - Melanie Martinez

𝕊𝕞𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕞𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕞𝕚𝕤𝕤𝕖𝕕 𝕚𝕟 𝕂-𝟙𝟚
- At The beginning of the film Crybaby talks about her experience during the ‘Mad Hatter’ video, seeing as this film picks up exactly where her last music video left off
- The Blue drink that almost kills the Principal is the same one that Crybaby gave the Wolf in Milk and Cookies
- When Crybaby and Angelita talk about what different lives they might’ve had together, its ironic because Angelita is the same demon that helps Crybaby in Tag You’re It/Milk and Cookies, and the same demon we see in Mad Hatter
- Whilst ‘Strawberry Shortcake’ is playing we see Crybaby in a cake, which feels like a strong reference to her older song ‘Cake’, especially as we see that someone has a cut a piece off
- When Crybaby tries to phone her Mom, and she doesn’t answer, we see her Mom’s phone ringing and in the background we see the same turquoise hue that’s in ‘Sippy Cup’, the last time we saw Crybaby’s Mom
- Kelly and her friends are wearing the same blonde wigs that were advertised at the beginning of the Mrs Potato Head music video (thanks to @namelessbeleiver)
I’m sure there’s more so I’ll update this if i think of any

𝕂-𝟙𝟚 𝕊𝕠𝕟𝕘 𝕄𝕖𝕒𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕤
(Based on my opinion and personal history) (not entirely based on the film)
Wheels On The Bus - Even though this song in the movie is very much describing a school bus journey it feels like a big metaphor for life. The line ‘I’m holding it down up in the front’ seems like she’s trying to hold her life together whilst all of these other things that she mentions are happening.
Class Fight - This song feels very close to me. The chorus ‘Mommy why do I feel sad? Should I give him away or feel this bad? ‘No, no, no, don’t you choke’, Daddy chimed in, ‘go for the throat’’ seems like Crybaby is showing learned behaviour, seeing as her mum doesn’t pick up the phone in the movie and her dad is dead. When Crybaby comes to the decision to ‘go for the throat’, tells me that she’s remembering what she’s seen, to me this is a direct link to ‘Sippy Cup’ as in the music video Crybaby’s mom goes for her dads throat. When children see abuse like that from their parents it’s sort of hard-wired into their brains because it’s something they’ve seen countless times, so it makes sense that Crybaby would remember it all and think of it as an option. Therefore crybaby could well be copying her parents, by hurting Kelly, as this is all she knows to deal with conflict.
The Principal - This one is pretty simple for me. It feels very much like Melanie is describing Trump, I’m pretty certain most people know that. She’s used ‘the principal’ as a double meaning. ‘Principal’ meaning her schools principal and if not used as a name it can be used to describe a meaning or a cause.
Show & Tell - This song seems to describe how Melanie feels in the spotlight, ‘Show and tell, I’m on display for all you fuckers to see’. In my point of view, this song describes messy relationships and how you can pour your heart out for people, try and make them listen, but a lot of the time people just don’t and you feel like you’re trapped performing for people when you really just want to stop and be yourself.
Nurses Office -  Nurse’s Office also feels very personal to me. The meaning of this song is pretty straight forward, Crybaby is faking to be ill so that she can go home because she can’t deal with the abuse from her school, but as always songs can have many more meanings. ‘I’m coughing, I’m bleeding, band-aids won’t heal it, ‘cause they hate me so I’m faking all of this so they take me, Take me home, give me that pink slip of permission, this is old, I’m tired of wishing i was ditching’, for me describes a horrible time of my life where I was wanting to get out of somewhere and the only way I could do it was pretending to be something I’m not.
Drama Club - This song uses ‘Drama Club’ as a way of describing people around her that are either too dramatic or a part of something that she doesn’t want to take part in. I feel like almost anyone could relate to this song as it covers such a normal topic.
Strawberry Shortcake - Melanie uses this song to describe what it’s like as a teenager. ‘It’s how I look and not what I think’ tells us how teenagers are expected to look a certain way and some people feel very forced to be something they’re not. Especially growing up some people don’t respect boundaries, sometimes because they don’t understand it, haven’t matured enough or plainly don’t care. Especially growing up some people begin to feel very conscious of their bodies and how they get treated for it.
Lunchbox Friends - This song is also pretty straightforward, Crybaby doesn’t want fake friends. ‘I don’t want no lunchbox friends no, I want someone who understands’ she uses the term ‘lunchbox friends’ as a clever metaphor, these people will only be around her for one reason, won’t stay with her very long at all, and after that she won’t hear from them again.
Orange Juice - Orange Juice can be a hard song to listen to if you have trouble with eating as it is a reminder of it, even though the song has a good message. This song covers eating disorders and spreads how everyone is beautiful and that bodies aren’t everything, ‘Your body is imperfectly perfect, everyone wants what the other one’s working’. The song is named ‘Orange Juice’ as it is a common food to binge and then turn to orange juice ‘You turn oranges to orange juice, enter there then spit it out of you’.
High School Sweethearts - I feel like this song is Crybaby’s way of saying ‘I don’t want to be fucked over again’, after Alphabet Boy, Johnny and Blue Boy. This song is very much an honest way of opening up to someone about how she’s feeling. The line ‘Step seven, this one goes to eleven, if you cheat you will die’ appears to have a double meaning, as ‘goes to eleven’ refers to the act of taking something to an extreme, and eleven is the same number as ‘Pacify Her’ on the Crybaby album where Blue Boy had interest in both Crybaby and Basic Bitch.
Teachers Pet - This song probably hits quite close to home for many people and can be hard to listen to. Teacher’s Pet can not only be about a student and a teacher but also about how many people perceive those relationships to be. For instance, many young people are manipulated and used, and when they open up about it, especially later on in their life, people look at it as ‘oh you wanted it’ and don’t always look at it as a necessarily bad thing.
Recess - Recess seems to show Crybaby’s growth and how she’s reflecting on how she’s feeling. ‘Recess, I’m tired’ is a clever way of ending the album, as if Crybaby needs a break.
