B E L O V E D by Queen_of_Sparkles - tw torture! A lot of hurt. Addreses Talia being killed/resurrected by her sister multiple times. A bit BruTalia. A pure heartbreak to read.

reflections on shattered mirrors. by spacewars - Talia’s perspective of Deaf!Jason is Lady Shiva’s son au but honestly feels a lot more Talia-centric than Jason-centric. Touches her issues and has nice details about her name. Talia is complex and conflicted character, mother and assassin. She is not exactly the loving maternal figure Jason craved but she is there and tries to help in the way she knows.

never a secret by Kneeshee - Talia/Hal, minor JayKyle. Ship itself is kind of weird but fic is really light-hearted and cute. Talia is appreciated and worshipped like she deserves to.

Somehow I’m the Mother of the Year by codefiant - Talia ran off to be with Bruce for good. Cool ninja mom!Talia and lots of cuteness. She is so exasperated but loving. Also ‘Wayne Home For Troubled Youth and Kittens’.

Satisfaction Brings Her Back by MelodramaticMrTails - Talia/Selina. tw explict sex. One night stand. Minor Bruce/Clarck. Nice subtle characterization of these ladies.

A Slow and Steady Dance by audreycritter - Talia/Jimmy Olsen. Rare pair, strange as hell at first but somehow author manages to pull it off. Amazing Talia characterization. She isn’t innocent, but she was trapped in a survival situation of trying to play by impossible rules. Jimmy is kind of Roger Rabbit to Talia’s Jessica.

Innocence Lost by lily8007 - Talia’s first kill. Ra’s and Talia’s relationships. A rather tense read. Young Talia shares some common traits with Damian and it’s interesting to see.

why do you keep leaving? by elowen_p - Talia/Selina. Them being Dami’s moms. Very sweet and fluffy. Ra’s is murdered like he should be. Talia is able to give Selina love and support without making her feel pressured, and Selina is able to remind Talia that she is wanted and worthy of being loved.

Insert Witty title im too fried for this rn. by ProwlSIC - Jason is Neal Caffrey au. Klarion and Teekl appear and Jason show offs his All-Blades.

Flipping Legacies by CrimsonWriter - Marvel crossover. Natasha notices another “a scary capable child assasin” who is Red Hood during his crusade on Gotham, bonds with him and decides to eliminate the group who taught him. Mom!Natasha for the win!

Who I am. Who I’ll Never Be. by Zootopon - Jason is blamed for the crime he didn’t commit. Bat family beats him and locks away Artemis and Bizzaro. Jason on the run from Justice League and trains for 2 years and prepares to wage a war. A lot of badass moments. Some All-Caste stuff. Upgraded Jason, realizing the potential we all know he has and totally destroys Bat Fam in a car chase across Gothan and stomps Justice League and it’s amazing. “Jason is no longer a boy that has died and come back angry. He is a man. A man with purpose, drive, conviction.”

Jason Todd’s Gap Year by SnufflesThePig - Jason takes a gap year. Contacts Clark and ges a job as journalist in Daily Planet. Funny and cool interactions with Clark and Lois and Jimmy and even Cat Grant. Human disaster!Clark. Includes a bits of interesting hcs about Jays biology (like him not needing to sleep as much as regular humans) though it’s not main focus. His connections to ordinary Crime Alley people shown. Showcase some of his bat-competency without being the designated short-fuse brute with little to show in the smarts department.

Of Red Hoods and Little Robins by Acxa_Kogane - Comics!Jason in s1 (or around it) YJ universe. Him being a top tier. Jason who while competent isn’t above using opportunity to antogonize Bruce who is’t prepared for what Jay is. Poor innocent soul Bruce who believes he isn’t gonna adopt more children. Jason’s two missions in life being to piss off Joker by doing good things and Batman by doing bad things. Hilarious Wally’s thoughts which are golden.

Prescience by Wisetypewriter - Has and explores interesting All-Caste concepts. Like Jason seeing time from three perspective simultaneously (which is briefly mentioned and never used again in comics). “…Jason was a lot of things. Strong. Brash. Empathetic. Close-off. Aloof. Needy. Intellectual. Spitfire, a raging inferno against the injustice of the world…”

Wait… you’re backup? by Ceciliedr - YJ universe. Traci, Virgil and Tim caught by Luthor. Scary big brother!Jason. Jason threatens and scares the shit out of Lex Luthor while Tim clings to his back is utterly hilarious. Cause hell yeah! Jason definetely can still villain-strut while carrying Robin like a backpack, robin just snuggling into him and it doesnt take away from how dangerous he is Traci thinking of Jason as a predator and knowing he would wipe thw floor with her if they were fighting even without knowing much about him.

Ash and Explosions by raindropfeathers - Dark and kinda grazy!Jason. Him being powerful and extremely dangerous.

figure it out by FuhkinIero - Marvel crossover. Jason meets Clint Barton in a dumpster and they bond. Then bond with other Avengers. Just Jason making friends and his skills appreciated by other skilled folks.

When Sanity Runs Out by heretoday898 - Jason and Roy in Star Wars. Them just being flung into the middle of Clone War drama and rolling with it and seeing through others bs. Mostly show offs All-Blades. Him sparring with Ahsoka. Hal and Anakin comparison is pure gold. Also Clone!Tech-Genius!Roy connecting with the clones and admiring tech. Jason being protective and feeling connections to Ahsoka and Barriss.

Give Thanks to Broken Bones by thepartyresponsible - Another Marvel crossover. Jason/Tony. Jason being super badass bodyguard to Tony’s daughter. Jason being amazing with kids. Him being a protector of heroes’ kids and sidekicks is also amazing.

Seeing Shadows by alittlefoxedup - Talia, Jay and Dami as a family. Jason participating in something like best assassins tournament (which is already cool), while learn under Shiva + him discovering he can see ghosts. Adorable lil Dami who thinks his big brother can beat up evryone.

Son of Shiva by rafamarkos5998 - Jason is Shiva’s son au. Jason is immortal and gets to finally kill Joker. Him getting some independence from Bats. Some focus on Cass and her journey.

This November Life by forestgreen - UTHR au. A lethal, smart and competent crime lord!Jason with a plan, who doesn’t goes all dumb and angry the second he meets Batfam. He also gets a cool hacker ally and learning in university. One of the few stories where Tim is mature and sympathetical.

carve a name by FuhkinIero - SladeJay! Usually don’t like this pairing for obvious reasons but this one is really good. Slade admiring and testing Jasons skills. Hot swords battle. Slade killing Joker for Jason(!) and Jay being all smitten because of it.

A Most Dangerous Game by Balrog_Roike - Jay discovering that somebody was hunting sidekicks and them being hunted down and killed on the Internet and decides doing something with that, ending up hunting down his supposed “hunters”, while the Justice League (and Young Justice) gaping at the screen. Him being terrifying and protective of sidekicks is amazing.

In Another Life by LERDM - Instead of revenge Jason decides to secretly protect Batfamily, while Bruce drives himself somewhat insane trying to figure out who the newest Gotham vigilante, Ghost, is. Protective!Jason.

The Phoenix Never Dies by ForceMage56 - This one is just pure perfection. Hurt Jason without being a woobie. He’s traumatized, hurt and been through Hell and back BUT he is also incredibly strong, able to pick himself up again and again, who saves himself. Likeable OC. Selina/Talia and Bruce’s reaction to this. Badass and skilled Jason. “Do not fight Jason Todd on any battle field, you will lose”. This work is a great balance of angst, action, character development.

Dead Man Clinging by YukinaZero - After events of the UTHR Jason using his power to control the underworld, investing himself for crime alley, the joker being very very very dead. Also a very funny Lee Jordan-like unprofessional reporter.

I shot the rogue (but I didn’t shoot the warden) by wajjs - Jason turns himself into the authorities and gets sent to Blackgate, from where he breaks out whenever there’s a rogue being a bastard, kills them and turns himself in again and again. The fact he technically serves his sentence makes him untouchable to the Bats. Jason taking power into his own hands and getting a network. Becoming stronger bc of the very thing he was threathened with. Also him making friends and training some of other inmates. He really has a talent to find friends and support in unexpected places. Also people knowing and liking him and old lady who threatened Batman if he do something to Hood.

Seeing the danger by Catharina2003 - Generally about how dangerous Batkids really is and how people tends to underestimate them sooo much.

Let the Punishment Fit the Crime by RandomReader13 - Jason murders David Cain for hurting Cass putting his skills to work to make it hurt. Jason going up against child abuser, noting and remembering all scars on Cass’ body and inflecting that pain on Cain’s body is satisfying.

the politics of dancing by TheResurrectionist - Jason being business savvy and showing offs his intelligence to the people who underestimate him. Lucius noticing how much Jay and Bruce are alike.

How Old Town Does by thenafics - slowed aging and prolonged lifespan!Jason rescues Terry and shows off his skills. Jason is unnecessarily dramatic (which is kinda funny) but also good enough at what he does to justify it.

Once a Rebel by wellthatjusthappend - Future au. Thomas Grayson becomes Jasons apprentice. Discussing of ways Jason helps people.

Rough Heroes by Razzy_ShamelessNerd - Team up with Huntress and Arsenal. Them being ruthless and scaring criminals.

Batman: Arkham Compendium by LananiA3O - Made me fall in love with Arkhamverse single-handedly. Depiction of trauma, ptsd, and recovery is stunningly heartbreakingly well written and feels real. While Jasons trauma and mental/emotional issues is aknowledged they do not become the only defining trait about him. He is a lot more than that. He is incredibly strong. He picks himself up again and again. And others aknowledges that, they understand that Jason is hurt and traumatized and that he needs help, but they also understand that he is a his own man. He moves on, or at least tries to, rather than let the past hold him down forever. He can also be smart, capable, determined, logical, furious, caring, affectionate, supportive, and humoring (even if he has a rather dark way of expressing these emotions). No one feels like prop up for Jason, they all while care and being there for each other, has their own things and issues going on. Lucius and Alfred are amazing there too. No one deserves them. Even Tim/Barbara does’t fell bad and gross.

Brand New Bridges by thenafics - Jason in Marvel. Issues about explaining Gotham, Batman and Robin to people who doesn’t understand how it’s possible is super fun. Jason making friends with Avengers. Thor calling Jay The Fallen Knight but not in the way everyone probably thought.

Hoodlum by unpredictableclone - Jason climbs his way out of Hell. He is a true Gotham’s son. Him being supportive and protective of Crime Alley kids. Also doctor!Jason. Good relationships between him and Talia. “Jason Todd is THAT bitch” is so true.

To the Letter by Lysical - Kinda Dark!Jason finds a way to bend Bats rules. “A fate worse than death” is suits it very well.

Best served cold by Balrog_Roike - Cop while also crime lord!Jason who kills the Joker right under Batman’s nose and is slowly but surely pushing hm out of business. And he even managed to get a life and friends out of it.

Kindling for the Fire by Lysical - Jason being competent and smart and getting around the no killing rule by manipulating people into killing each other. Jason and Barbara bantering. Also Barbara underestimating Jason.

Space Escape by Lysical - Kyle and Jason dymanic. The banter between Jason and Kyle is playful and funny. Them being captured on alien planet. Then Jason defeats their reigning deity and becomes the planet’s new god. “Jason, we have already caused enough diplomatic incidents today.” // “You’re the one who asked me along on this adventure”. Jason getting into the armory and lighting up like a kid in a candy shop who’s been told to go get whatever they want. Hal and Bruce being at towards each other.

Self-Made Man by jayhood - Au where Jason wasn’t caught and stole all Batmobile tires. CEO!Jason. Then security consultant for Bruce. Bruce and Jason friendship.

The Demon’s Protector by Write_No_Evil - Jason as Damian’s protector. Bonding between Jay and Dami. A lot of badass fighting scenes.

Three Birds, Twelve Bullets by gunpowder_and_pearls - Mob au. Vengeful Jason who doesn’t face any backlash for his actions. A little bits about the Mob!Batfamily in the background.

Convergence by meaninglessblah - Dick’s while caught up in Roman’s dealings and staying with the Tevis family, volunteers to unmask the Red Hood rogue who’s been meddling in Roman’s business. Dick doesn’r recognize Jason, when Jason wasn’t even trying to be subtle.

The matter of Jason's maternity was a closed case settled 6 years ago and paid for with his life. Then an overdue blood scan reveals he shares 25% of his DNA with Cassandra Cain.

The last time he went on a journey to investigate his parentage, it ended with his death. This time he’s not doing it alone.

2) Wished On The Morning Star by Cerusee. A Cass meets Jason before she meets anyone else story.

The pile of blankets stirred at the sound of Steph’s voice, and the person—a boy—no, not a boy, a teenager, but not a very big one—sat up and looked vaguely in her direction. More past her, than at her, but she could see his face clearly enough.

Steph froze in shock. “Oh my god,” she whispered.

It wasn’t possible. But she’d spent enough time looking at pictures of him, from his file, in Alfred’s photo albums, from the framed portrait on the wall...she knew that face.

3) Recitatif of Danaide by neptunary. A long fic where Cass meets Jason even earlier - FROM CASS'S POV. tw for implied/referenced underage child sexual trafficking and canon-typical child abuse references.

MY NOTES: i am physically incapable of not recommending this fic regardless of the ask. it must be shared and it must be read. a real feel good and fun fic, bruce is so silly, and steph is so fun. lovely inclusion (without actually including) the other kids too!

Stephanie was just on patrol and now she’s stuck somewhere, sometime, with Bruce. They bleed and bond and mostly try to keep each other alive— you know, just a Tuesday.

MY NOTES: im fairly certain i have recommended this before on here, but i have also reread it at least ten times, so who's to judge. one of my favourite time travel fics, also one of my all time favourite bruce and stephanie fics. the end is especially my favourite since it develops a specific part of their dynamic that i really treasure. must read!

"Jason and Me" by David Hines, originally posted on FFN - Newly appointed Robin, Stephanie Brown investigates some old history. (Written before Robin #125.) POV Steph; published during Stephanie's short Robin run before she was fridged, and before Jason returned as Red Hood. (Bonus: Try looking over the old reviews on FFN—pretty interesting to see some of the fan reception for Steph nearly 20 years ago.) 2004.

"Just Another Kid" by shobogan - Stephanie is Jason's best friend. She's about to discover that she's Robin's, too. POV Steph, childhood friends AU. Very sweet, punched me in the emotions. 2013.

"4am philosophy" by grayghost (eurydiced) - Then again, every story about Jason seemed to paint a different picture: broken man, or misguided hero, or dangerous zealot who'd had one too many chances, depending on who was doing the telling. If there was one common thread, it was that Jason was a cautionary tale. POV Steph. 2016.

"Close Encounters and Cautionary Tales" by predilection - The first time Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown meet, they end up surprising each other. POV Jason, switches to POV Steph, set during Stephanie's Batgirl era before Bruce's return. 2013.

"Bloodstains Won't Make It Matter" by skylarkblue - Jason returns to Gotham to find another dead Robin. He steals away with the body and resurrects her, but there begs the question: what will they do? POV Jason primarily, written for the @jaystephevents prompt "Robin!Stephanie and Red Hood!Jason". Under the Hood rewrite featuring resurrected Stephanie Brown. Intense and rather downbeat. 2022.

"Ghostgirl and Zomboy " by shauds - "You don't make demands of the ghost, asshole, the ghost makes demands of you." Steph dies, becomes a ghost, and annoys Jason incessantly during his big comeback. POV Jason; mostly a Halloween-themed buddy comedy but watch out for feels. 2018.

"this is a long drive (for three robins who don't agree on much)" by drakefeathers - Steph’s trip home to Gotham takes a huge detour thanks to Jason and Damian’s conflicts with airport security. She’s stuck driving the two brothers cross-country to reach Tim’s wedding in time. POV Steph, civilian/no capes AU, mostly fluff and comedy plus some sweetness. 2014.

"So You Say It's Your Birthday" by Cerusee - “Babs and I are throwing you and Steph a joint birthday party,” Dick said. “It’s on Sunday the 13th, because that’s the only day everybody can make it. It's in the park. Bruce is grilling steaks, and I know you know how good he is at that. You’re coming.” Steph and Jason have a joint birthday party; feel-good fluff and humor with an idealized Batfamily. 2017.

"Hanging On" by Deshal - If there was one thing Stephanie Brown had always excelled at, it was plotting a course and refusing to be moved. Bruce had just needed proof that she was a capable hero in her own right. It was funny just how much Steph’s obstinacy and Bruce’s distrust of her had combined in all the worst ways. POV Steph primarily; post-War Games anti-hero Steph AU; WIP/incomplete, last updated 2022.

"Identity Document" by Runespoor - A dark alleyway, a gang of thugs, a victim who won't be victimized, Batman. A bad Robin meets a bad Batman. 2011.

"Lost" by orphan_account - Jason loses a parent, meets a girl, and goes swimming. Then some other stuff happens, too. 2011.

"What's So Amazing That Keeps Us Stargazing" by Cerusee - Stephanie wasn’t stupid; she knew Robin’s colors well as any Gotham kid did. It was Dick’s old costume. (Stephanie knew she wasn’t even supposed to know that name; Batman had had a concussion when he’d called Nightwing by it, and they’d both been cagey with her for months afterwards.) It was the costume he’d worn before he’d grown up and become Nightwing. So why this case, with this costume, but a different name? Some of the best Jason Todd fics that were posted or updated in the year 2022.

"Fail Safe" by Goldmonger - Superman pushes himself training to his limits, as a contingency for the times when he loses his powers. Though Batman is a world-class teacher, a few of the most important lessons are taught instead by 13-year-old Robin (Jason).

"Six of Swords" by campitor - Six vignettes detailing the birth of the Red Hood and the deaths of sons, from UTH to Lost Days. Probably one of the most underappreciated fics I've come across, this story definitely deserves more attention. Character study, canonically villainous Red Hood.

"Bloodstains Won't Make It Matter" by skylarkblue/@wardinpanties - Black Mask does murder Stephanie Brown. Red Hood resurrects her, and together they walk the path of vengeance. Gruesome deaths, even more gruesome resurrection, shopping, friendship, dramatic flair, villainy, dark themes. (Written for @jaystephevents, no ship).

"Hood" by CrimeAlley1048/@oh-mother-of-darkness - The Mad Hatter's latest scheme traps Jason and Tim within Jason's mind. Batfamily-compliant Red Hood.

Neighbours by Aingeal98 - The mysterious Shiva and her young daughter move in next door to civilian Bruce and his young son Jason. Shiva and Bruce become extremely involved PTA parents, Cass and Jason become adorable friends. Take notes on how this fic writes Lady Shiva, this is how you write Lady Shiva. Great characterization for all involved. Cass and Shiva are the stars of the show, and Jason is a solid supporting character. (Unlike the other fics here which are completed, this story is an ongoing work in progress for now, but it's the kind of story that is enjoyable even without having an ending yet.)

"Upside Down" by withthekeyisking/@withthekeyisking-writer - Dick is transformed into his 8-year-old, newly orphaned runaway self, and Jason must earn his trust.

"Come Little Children" by TravelingRiversideBlues - A kid meets Batman in Crime Alley. Major character death.

"a ghost in the grey daylight" by Goldmonger - Following the events of UtRH, Batman places Jason in Arkham Asylum. Stream of consciousness. Red Hood meets Wide Sargasso Sea + Arkham Asylum: Living Hell. Not a happy story. Jason and Bruce do terrible stuff in this one, some other characters are complicit to varying degrees.

"Late Night Langoustining" by whaleofatime/@cetaceans-pls - Jason nurses an abused supermarket lobster back to health in his apartment bathroom. Chaotic good.

"One Rule" by Wisetypewriter - After a pimp is murdered in Crime Alley, Batman goes looking for Red Hood. Normally I don't read fic that uses RHatO canon, but this story actually makes interesting use of Faye Gunn as Jason's paternal grandmother. Contains references and descriptions of familial abuse.

"lonely town" by TheResurrectionist /@frownyalfred - After Robin is murdered, Nightwing seeks out the Joker on his own. Major character death, grief, extreme peril, self-destructive behavior. Jason's minor role is short and sweet. This story can be depressing or cathartic depending on your mood and tastes.

we're in this mellow mayhem together by atlasky/@greenslanterns - A slice-of-life series in which Jason has a close relationship with Hal Jordan, Green Lantern. Told from Hal's point of view, this story will make you love Hal if you don't already. The latest installment was posted this year.

"the clay steals the clay" by zipadeea/@zipadeea - Bruce & Jason. Sweet fluffy feel-good goop. Alternate reunion, Catholic homily, takes place just before UtH.

"Fabric Softener" by ceruleon/@cerul3on - Dick & Jason. As the name implies, this story is way soft. Feel-good fluff.

This was bad. Roy squared up, assessing his opponents, but he knew it was hopeless. He’d been trained by some of the best fighters in the world, but he was naked and unarmed and there were four of them.

If he shifted, he could probably dart between their legs and out of the Cage before any of them could draw a bead on him, but that would mean leaving Jason. And he was not leaving Jason.

Jason, who put himself in front of Roy, laid his ears back flat, and growled. A couple of the guards blanched at the sound, but the stupider ones just grinned.

“What, you got yourself a new puppy, freak?” Frank asked. “That’s real fucking cute. Tell him to go play dead, would you?”

Roy shook his head. “He’s telling you to back off pretty clearly, asswipe. When he rips out your throat, remember that, okay? You were warned.”

“So were you,” Frank said, lighting up his cattle prod.

Commentary: This hurt like a bitch. Read the Warnings and don’t click if you can’t deal with Bad Dad Bruce… but holy hell, this was a masterpiece of emotions. I had emotions reading this and I ascended onto a next plane of existence. Wow.

Author Summary: There’s some lunatic in a red helmet running through Jason’s territory. He wants to think it’s a copycat.

He’s wrong.

Commentary: This fic has so many elements I love: time travel, Jason POV, angst, it’s plotty, and the descriptions are chef’s kiss. Jason is so competent and really badass, while still being introspective and intriguing.

Author Summary: Alternate universe in which we gather soul strings as we fall in love, with different colors representing the different kinds of love you experience over time. Tim has loved and lost so many times over the years that, as rare as it is to find someone who actually loves him back, his strings are mangled like barbed wire. What’s the point of loving if it only ends in heartache? (Or: Tim’s experience with love, a story told in snapshots.)

Commentary: This AU hurt me so much and I maybe cried a little bit while reading. 10/10 for Angst. I enjoyed the hurt. And the well-executed concept is just *chef’s kiss*.

Author Summary: The alert goes off – temporal anomaly – and a portal opens in the Cave. Batman and Robin emerge, only it’s immediately apparent that it’s not Bruce wearing the cowl.

Commentary: This fic gave me feels and has Big Sis Steph in it, which I love and am deeply saddened by the fact that there aren’t more fics with Big Sis Steph.

Author Summary: While filing Batman’s paperwork as punishment for an unfortunate incident with the Batmobile, Steph discovers a momento from an early Cluemaster takedown. Commentary: There really isn’t enough Steph & Bruce fics out there and this one is perfect. It’s got Awkward Bruce too.

i...can't say i would be in this fandom if i hadn't started reading whaleofatime's fics while desperately searching for jaybru. no other author matches what i want for both of them like this. jason reads like the perfect mix of canon and personal interpretation, a version of jason who kills but much more selectively. bruce is so full of emotion and poor at expressing them. this reads like the best possible version of canon that could exist. third thursdays in particular is lovely subtle d/s exploration of how a relationship could begin between them.

smut inspired by the above, but also stands alone as a smut fic that made me burst into tears about how much i love jason and bruce.
