We’re literally DAYS away from s7 but I just watched the graveyard scene™️ and I have,,,, thoughts
Tumblr media
I haven’t publicly discussed the lighting strike, the coma dream or the third kitchen scene yet, but there was something about this scene that irked me enough, so now im here
For starters this whole episode was centered around death. We have the Fake Funeral, Shannon’s grave, the Athena arc with the man who died then came back to life, and obviously,,, as one might imagine, we brushed Buck’s near-death experience (⚡️) — then at the end,,, the ever angering Buddie talk at a previous victim’s grave.
In this episode we meet Natalia, a death doula who Buck and the rest of the 118 tend to after an accident.
She quickly takes an interest in the recently Discharged™️ Evan Buckley, even asking him out on a date after finding out about his “acquaintance” (sic.) with death.
On the date per se she manifests her excitement towards Buck’s whole story, even prompting him to say ‘look at how excited you are. you’re like a real fangirl of this stuff.’
Upon research, I’ve found that death doulas are a real thing. Slow blink. I had no idea.
Thing is, she keeps saying how cool it is to have died and come back to life, imo pressuring him into discussing details he doesn’t seem all that ready himself to say out loud (he just seems to like her, however). He does anyway. She says how amazing and cool it is. Again.
We do not get more details of the date.
Tumblr media
Now to what brings us all here.
The scene starts with Buck and Eddie in front of Marie’s grave (a victim they knew). Buck explains how she died and mentions Natalia. Eddie says ‘we’re all gonna die alone’,,, which,, 👁️ ok mister Diaz a little somber but um– let him cook.
Buck seems a lil taken aback by this, turning to look at Eddie quietly until he explains that’s what Marie said to him and Hen. Buck disagrees with the statement.
Then it’s Eddie’s turn to mention Natalia. “That’s a beautiful thing Natalia did for her,” he says, looking at the ground. I’m not particularly a Natalia stan, but I can say that at this point of the conversation Eddie means no ill-will towards her. She’s actually somehow a… background character (of sorts) to this whole story.
This is when it gets,,,, interesting 🧍🏽‍♀️
As soon as Eddie speaks, Buck takes a small breath and smiles. Like WIDE. (Like guys that’s the picture I just put above this whole scene) — BUT he looks like he’s a bit hesitant in entrusting Eddie with the fact that he’s seeing her. He even ducks his head a little bit, which is a clear sign of cautiousness.
Before Buck’s even done speaking, Eddie sighs and throws his head slightly back. I don’t have the WORDS to explain to yall the way this man looks like he’s e x h a u s t e d (they haven’t even started the conversation bro 😭)
“Really? Dating someone you rescued?” OKAY LISTEN TO ME. This is what sets off the Marisol arc. Before Buck started dating Natalia, we hadn’t even heard about Marisol in the whole season !!!! She was gone, poof! Then Buck gets all deathy-snuggly with Natalia and suddenly Eddie’s really interested in her (when not even half an episode ago he was telling Tia Pepa he wasn’t ready even if he didn’t wanna be alone). Otherwise it would be awfully cynical of Eddie to be saying all this when he’s planning on going against his OWN words in like two episodes……….. 👨🏽‍🦯
Not only that, but it’s the fact that he looks completely against it from the very get go. Ummmm Taylor was someone they rescued, so was Ali. We never heard this speech before did we??? “You know that never ends well.” Also it’s the second fact that he says YOU know it never ends well. Excuse me? Wasn’t Ana someone you rescued also? 🤨 it just seems like he’s trying very hard to convince Buck to not do this. How do I know this you ask??? Bc I’ve been in that situation.
When Buck starts defending his choices, Eddie only nods. He can’t even look at him. He’s defeated, but not AS defeated as he’s about to be. “Anyway, she wanted to ask me about the lighting strike” “Right. You love being the guy with the answers.” This is NOT PLAYFUL. EDDIES NOT SAYING THAT ENDEARINGLY. Omg I can’t even- he’s not fooling around the way a friend would tease someone about their hot new date, he’s deliberately using the same PHRASING Buck used with him and Chris like a minute ago. He’s hurt. Eddie’s HURT. By now Eddie thinks Buck’s just playing around with this girl. And he’s hurt bc when he had his moment with Tia Pepa, he envisioned a life for himself with Buck (and I can’t tell you it was super romantic or platonic, but in his head it was a family. All three of them. This was clearly breaking that vision that he took so long to accept).
Tumblr media
Okay. “I feel like she sees me.” I have… I need to have extensive PTO rn cuz im seething. The way Eddie’s head immediately turns to Buck, even though he had been avoiding his eyes through the entirety of the scene. Another person said this so im not gonna take originality credit but: it’s like their whole friendship flashes through his mind, and his face contorts into a very painful ‘but I see you.’ I’m in so much pain lmao
Eddie’s literally scrambling now. He doesn’t know what to say, how to stop this pain. He’s lost Buck. He lost the man he’s been secretly and unawaringly in love with for over five years. He tries to be okay with this new reality asap. He hides his feelings. He starts joking. Buck’s not really laughing either, it’s futile.
“You haven’t been the same since it happened. But how could you be?” The last bit Eddie says to himself. He’s trying to adjust so fast he might have whiplash. It’s like he’s thinking: “if I had acted before this all happened, maybe I could have changed with you, instead of watching you change from a corner when im nothing but your best friend. No authority, no rights, no permission.” 😀 im ready to end it all btw
Thing is,,, Eddie STILL loves Buck, even if he’s convinced himself in his head right about now that he can’t have him. He’ll be happy (he’ll have to be) just being his friend, because losing his romantic love won’t ever be worse than losing him completely, so he says: “You don’t have to be anything for anybody.” Does this REMIND YALL OF SOMETHING ???
Tumblr media
(gently borrowed from @loveyourownsmiilee – although it was a gif but I’m kinda computer stupid)
Anyway, then Eddie becomes a little preachy, ending it w “so what changed you?” Which honestly he says quite angrily and accusatorially. If you watch the scene he even nods his head up, pointing at Buck and separating him from himself. He’s cutting their lines. YOU changed. YOU moved on. YOU died. YOU didn’t wait for me.
Then Buck kinda extends his hand back. “That has to mean something, right?” (Cheating death). He looks at Eddie with hope, but the man ISNT LOOKING BACK…. And the window is lost. Eddie’s joking again, Buck looks away.
Whatever, the scene ends with Eddie wanting but refusing to look at Buck, while Buck stares into a hypothetical horizon with a glimmer of a new, different hope. He never realized Eddie’s heart broke an inch away from him.
“It’s all a gift.”
Not to Eddie, it isn’t.

Jamie Tartt*Bus Ride
Pairing: Jamie x f!reader

Tumblr media
Warnings: fingering, semi public, teasing, smut 18+
Masterlist here
You had been in Amsterdam with the boys partly as the teams Physio encase the Dutch played dirty but also as Jamies new girlfriend. well, it wasn’t too new just not very known about. you had been dating each other for about three months now and you had decided to keep it under wraps to avoid any drama or stress but also because it felt nice to have a secret.
Roy knew because he liked to randomly show up at 4 am and pound on Jamies door till he answered and one time it was you who opened the door half naked and already yelling at him before your eyes went wide as a deer in the head lights. Luckily, Roy was not exactly much of a talker. Besides everyone was used to a Physio being around players so often and you had been friends for years prior so no one guessed at thing.
You were on the bus back to the airport however everyone on the bus was either exhausted, hung over, or a combination of both. you and Jamie were sat together near the back of the bus surrounded by a bunch of snoring footballers. the only ones not knackered were you, Jamie, and Roy since instead of drinking, partying, or sleeping in random men’s boats you had all spent the evening teaching Roy how to hide a bike and listening to tour guide barbie aka Jamie talk about light houses.
Roy however was at the front of the bus meaning everyone around you was asleep and couldn’t see the way you snuggled into Jamies side or how his hand rested on your lap. Still Jamie had brought a blanket encase you were tired so now you were sat snuggled up, blanket covering you both.
You were so caught up in your own thoughts you didn’t notice Jamies hand creeping from your outer to inner thigh till you felt his finger trail slowly over your panties. your eyes went wide, your head snapping towards him to see a shit eating grin on his face as his eyes stayed forward. you went to speak but Jamie’s whisper cut you off, “Quiet sweetheart. Grampas trying to read down there. He hates being interrupted,”
You wanted to protest, to tell him this was wrong but when his fingers trailed up, slowly rubbing your clit over your panties you could feel yourself getting turned on. Jamie leaned down, his lips brushing your ear as he spoke, “Already so wet princess,” he whispered so quietly that only you could hear but the words made you shiver, “How very naughty of you,” you could hear the smirk in his voice but couldn’t bring yourself to turn to face him.
Your eyes glanced to the seat across from you where Sam and Danni slept, both with headphones in. If anyone was awake you could see the headsets on them from here. but no one was looking back. no one could see how your hand grabbed Jamies arm under the blanket. that strong arm. fuck this was hot, you couldn’t deny it and Jamie knew it when you didn’t even try pull his arm away.
his fingers slowly rubbed circles onto your clit, only making you wetter and making it harder not to whine for more. your eyes darted to your watch. you’d be at the airport in 20 minutes. people would be waking up soon. but then you felt Jamie’s fingers slowly move to slip beneath your panties, going excruciatingly slow.
you didn’t have to look at him to see his smirk but when you did god was it hot. your breathing caught when you felt his fingers slowly tease the entrance of your hole. usually this was the point you begged and whined, and Jamie pondered out loud if you deserved him to fuck you with his fingers but not now. now all you could do was buck your hips making Jamie chuckle quietly.
“Patient baby,” Jamie whispered in your ear, his hot breath sending chills down your spine, “Can’t go waking em up now, can we?” he said, his fingers slowly slipping in.
your head moved to lean onto his shoulder, twisting to hide your face as you bite your lip. if anyone was to look back you knew they couldn’t see under the blanket, but you didn’t need them to see your ‘please just fuck me already’ face.
you could tell Jamie was enjoying this and before you could think of how to get him back his fingers began to push in, stretching you out perfectly. the other issue was that the whole time you were in Amsterdam you hadn’t been able to do anything. any time you headed to his room one of the guys would see you and you had to make up an excuse so eventually you had given up.
all this meant that when Jamie began to curl his fingers with expert precision you almost chewed through your lip trying to stay quiet. this was a new position though, so Jamie took his time, slowly working his fingers till he grazed that familiar spot. you sucked in a deep breath when you felt his fingertip brush it making Jamie chuckle and you clench his free wrist under the blanket.
Jamie leant over, kissing the top of your head as you leaned into his shoulder. you could feel your orgasm approaching but you’d never had to hide it like this, and you weren’t sure you could, but you also didn’t want to make him stop. not when you were so close and had been waiting for this for days.
when you felt your body tighten, your legs clenching around Jamie’s hand, you tightened your grip on his wrist till you worried it would snap. when your orgasm hit you felt like you couldn’t breathe as your body twitch around his fingers much to your protest. the faintest whine left your lips as your rode it out, Jamie groaning lightly when he heard it.
as you came down from your high, wondering how the hell you were supposed to get him back, Jamie removed his hand and moved so you could properly crash into his shoulder to recover. with your hand falling and free his wrist he moved to pull the blanket further up your body as your eyes fluttered shut.
a few moments past when you heard a quiet psst from somewhere nearby. you were too terrified to open your eyes, afraid you had been caught, but you felt Jamie turn his head. “Look at you too,” you heard Dannis quiet whisper from the seat across the aisle. “This is too cute my friend. you have to ask her out already,”
You could feel the way Jamie chuckled, vibrations running through his chest, “Maybe mate. Been thinking about it ya know,” he said as you tried not to laugh or smile.
“For what its worth I agree with Danni,” Sam piped, doing his best not to wake you despite you internally grinning like an idiot. “Yous too are perfect for each other,”
“Nah man she’s outta my league,” Jamie said making you roll your eyes behind your eyelids at this cocky little shit who you knew was grinning like an idiot on the outside.
“True that bruv,” Issac said, not even trying to keep his voice down almost making you laugh and blow your cover, “She’s well too good for you,”
“Tell me about it,” Jamie joked, and you waited a couple moments before pretending to stir as Jamie shushed the boys around.
you yawned, trying your best to make it realistic, “Morning boys,” you said as Danni, Sam, and Issac all turned pretending to have never been saying a word. man, it was getting hard not to laugh. you turned to jamie, whispering lowly, “I’m gonna kill you for that,” you smiled, trying to look innocent as Jamie laughed. Jamies laugh soon died when he pulled out his phone and saw a text from Roy.
“I am going to fucking murder you both and fling your bodies in the canal,”

You ran, no idea where you were going, no time to grab a jacket, just running through the snowy night in nothing but your tank and underwear. You could barely focus, running and stumbling and running more, trying not to slip on the ice underfoot. Your feet were numb by the time you found yourself outside the Gallagher house, and the adrenaline that had got you there worn off. You gave two knocks, hoping they were loud enough, before slumping against the doorframe and willing the cold to take you over.
Inside the Gallagher house, Ian was watching a movie with Carl when there was a knock at the door.
“Hey Carl, did you hear that?” Ian asked his younger brother. Carl just shrugged.
“Hear what?” Ian frowned.
“I’m just gonna check the door, make sure nobody’s out there.” He reasoned, pausing the movie. He got up and opened the door to the empty street.
“Must’ve been the wind…” he muttered, before stepping back to close the door. Ian paled at the sight of you, covered in cuts and bruises, freezing to death in your underwear on the porch. “FIONA!” He shouted back into the house. There was a thundering on the stairs.
“What the fuck, Ian? I’m trying to…” Fiona’s voice trailed off. “Bring her inside.” Ian didn’t move. “Now, Ian!” Fiona shouted at him. The middle Gallagher bent down to pick you up, and you instinctively cowered away from him.
“Fi…” Fiona has already seen, and grabbed the thick blanket from the couch. She crouched beside you.
“Hi…” She said softly “look, I don’t know what’s happened, but what I do know is that you showed up at my house and if we don’t bring you inside you’re going to freeze to death. So, what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wrap you in this blanket and Ian is going to bring you inside. He’s not going to touch you, just the blanket. Is that ok?” You nod slowly, barely hearing her as your brain was catching up with the events of the night. Fiona draped the blanket over you, and then there was an arm behind your back and another under your knees. Ian picked you up with ease and brought you inside the house, the warmth prickling against your skin.
“Carl, go next door and get V, tell her to bring her med kit.” Fiona barked, turning off the TV and clearing a spot on the sofa.
“Hey! I was watching that!” Carl protested.
“Bigger problems, Carl! You can watch the movie another time.” You barely registered this conversation as Ian gently put you down. Steve had appeared on the stairs to see what all the commotion was about.
“Ian, go and grab some of Lip’s clothes, sweats and a hoodie. Steve, I can see you on the stairs. Go put the kettle on the stove. Carl, V’s house, now. Everyone move!” The boys all went to do their respective jobs, Ian heading up the stairs, Carl grabbing his coat and Steve going to the kitchen. Fiona crouched down in front of you.
“It’s going to be ok, we’re gonna get you cleaned up and taken care of.” You nodded, still unable to process words to leave your mouth. Ian was the first back to the front room, clothes in hand. He put them on the arm of the couch so they were in easy reach, then went to the kitchen to “help” Steve. It was only another minute before Veronica entered the house.
“Ok, which Gallagher needs my help now, Fi?” Fiona stood up to greet her best friend.
“Not a Gallagher.” She sighed, leading V into the room. V saw you and immediately swore.
“Holy shit, Fiona! What the fuck happened here?”
“I don’t know,” Fiona said. “She’s a friend of Lip’s, showed up at the door a couple minutes ago and hasn’t said a word. She can hear and she’s reacting, fucking jumped out her skin when Ian tried to bring her inside, but I think she’s probably hypothermic.”
“Where d’she live?” Veronica asked, putting down her bag.
“117th.” Fiona supplied, running a hand through her hair.
“Fi, that’s a half hour walk from here.” V said.
“Yeah, I know.”
“In panties and a blanket?” Fiona bit her lip.
“Blanket’s ours.” Veronica swore again.
“That’s worse than I thought. I need a tub of warm water NOT HOT and some clean towels. Think you can get that for me?” Fiona nodded and went to get what was required. “Don’t you worry, Babygirl, we’re gonna get you all fixed up.” Veronica said to you. You didn’t respond.
Lip had been having a rough couple days, and had gone out for a few beers at the Alibi. He’d had a fight with his best friend about he didn’t even know what, but he knew it ended in her telling him to go fuck himself. He climbed the back stairs and opened the door into the kitchen, where he was greeted by Steve waiting for the kettle to whistle, Ian filling a plastic tub with water, and an air of intensity filling the house.
“What’s uh, what’s going on, guys?” Lip asked. Nobody responded. He moved further into the house and saw you sat on the sofa, Veronica in front of you, gently massaging your hands.
“What the fuck is she doing here?” Lip asked, his voice low.
“Lip…” Fiona warned.
“What the FUCK is she doing here?!” Lip shouted. You flinched, pulling away from Veronica and curling yourself protectively into a ball.
“Phillip Gallagher!” Lip stopped. Fiona only called him Phillip in court. It was only then that he actually looked around. You were balled up on the couch with Veronica and a medical bag in front of you, Fiona had her phone in her hand with 911 already typed in, just then Steve came in with a steaming mug of tea, Ian following behind with a tub of water. Then he looked at you properly. The skin that wasn’t bruised or bloody was pale, your lips practically blue, and you were in your underwear. As he put the pieces together he wordlessly removed his boots and jacket, no longer caring about your fight, and sat on the couch.
“Hey, Bug,” Lip said gently “let’s get you nice and warm.” He pulled you in front of him, pressing his chest to your back in order to share his body heat. He coaxed your legs out, to allow Veronica to pour warm water over them, when he noticed something.
“V, stop a second.” He said
“Lip, time is of the essence here.” She replied
“I get that but just stop and look. She’s had sex tonight.”
“Are you really thinking about your dick right now, Gallagher?” Veronica was getting annoyed.
“Veronica!” He watched as the realisation slowly dawned on her.
“Fiona!” Veronica shouted. Fiona came into the room, phone pressed against her ear
“…yeah, she just turned up at my door, not said a thing and she’s fucking black and blue, Tony.” She put the receiver to her shoulder. “What?”
“Who was it, Bug?” Lip was asking. “Your brothers? Guys from school? Guys from a club?” You shook your head no on each of those. “Your dad?” You stilled, breathing becoming shallow. “Motherfucker… I’m gonna fucking kill him!” Lip clenched his teeth. He turned to Fiona.
“Her dad.” He made a circle with his thumb and forefinger then put his other forefinger through. Fiona’s face immediately set into anger and she put the phone back to her ear.
“Tony, you gotta go now…. Assault, yeah… physical… and sexual… if you don’t, I think Lip will and he can’t go to juvie… yeah, 117th, we’ve got her, just get him.” She clicked the phone off. “Tony’s on his way to find her dad-“
“I’ll go with him.” Lip interrupted, sitting up away from you slightly.
“Lip, I’m not having you in juvie. None of my kids have gone to prison and you’re not being the first. Plus… you’re the only person she’ll willingly let touch her, she wouldn’t even let Ian and we all know he’s not exactly a threat.” Fiona sighed. “You gotta stay here.”
“No, I gotta go and kill the bastard-“ As Lip spoke he moved himself from behind you towards Fiona. There was a rush of cool air as you felt his body heat leave you, and it was all just too much. You suddenly felt everything at once, and started sobbing. The room stopped. It was the most noise you had made since you turned up.
“She needs you here, Lip.” Fiona stated. Lip nodded mutely and sat back down. He put his arms around you, his chest once again pressed to your back, his chin resting on your shoulder.
“Shhhh, it’s ok, Bug. Everything is going to be ok. I’m here, you’re safe.” He soothed. You were shivering violently as the warmth was finally penetrating your skin. “Fi, can you go grab some clothes from my room?”
“One step ahead of ya.” Fiona pointed to the clothes on the couch. Lip nodded his thanks, and held out his hand to Veronica. She handed him a damp washcloth.
“Veronica and I are gonna clean you up, if that’s ok? Then we can get you dressed and warm. You’re staying here for now, you’re not going home.” You nodded your consent and Lip slowly started rubbing the washcloth over your skin. “Can we get her in the bath?” Lip asked Veronica “Would that be better?”
“I barely got her in the house.” Ian chimed in “but you’re welcome to try and get her upstairs.”
“A bath would be better…” Veronica thought aloud “is there hot water?” She looked to Ian and he nodded. “Go run a bath, again, warm not hot.” Ian nodded and headed towards the bathroom.
“We can get her in the bath and clean this blood and… other stuff off while she warms up, see what the situation is, patch her up.” He didn’t want to think about what had happened, if he did he was going to prison, so he focused on helping you instead. After a few minutes, you had calmed to the point of sniffling and Ian came downstairs “Bath’s ready.” Lip nodded
“You ready?” He asked you. “Can you walk or shall I pick you up?” You turned towards him and wrapped your arms around his neck. “Ok, I’ll take you.” He kissed your temple softly, then slid an arm under your knees.
Lip didn’t bother undressing you, not that he could have with the blood sticking to your tank, he just lowered you into the water. He pulled his own shirt off so as not to get it wet, and grabbed the plastic cup from the windowsill. He stayed quiet as he poured cupfuls of water over your shoulders, occasionally pulling at your shirt to loosen the fabric from your skin. The once clear water was a pale pink by the time Lip put the cup down. “Can I take your shirt off?” He asked. You hesitated. “I’m just gonna clean you up, check out your injuries.” You nodded, closing your eyes. He carefully lifted your shirt, pulling the back up over your head and then down your arms. He didn’t react to the gash across your back, or boot print on your kidney, he just picked up a washcloth and ran it gently over your skin.
“Can I wash the blood out of your hair?” He asked quietly. You nodded again, allowing Lip to wet and shampoo your hair, his strong fingers gently working the blood from your scalp. He tipped your head back to rinse the suds, the bath water tingeing a deeper shade of pink. Once your hair had been rinsed Lip stood up “I’ll just be a sec, ok?” He said gently “V, can you keep an eye?” Veronica nodded and headed into the bathroom, looking at the various injuries that he littering your torso. Lip headed downstairs and found Fiona in the kitchen, nursing a coffee.
“You want one?” She asked, holding up the pot “‘s gonna be a long night.” Lip shook his head and went over to hug her tightly. “Lip, you’re too strong to be crushing me like this!” She scolded, before she felt the damp spots on her shoulder. “Oh. Oh Lip…” Fiona hugged her little brother back, trying to remember the last time Lip had cried like that. She held him tightly for a few moments, one hand on his head and the other rubbing his back, while he cried over his best friend.
After a few minutes Lip pulled away, wiping his nose. “Sorry, I just…”
“You don’t need to apologise, Lip. We all have our moments.” Fiona said gently.
“I should, um… I should get back upstairs.” Fiona nodded and shooed him away, shoving the clothes at him. When Lip got back upstairs he found Veronica putting the last few stitches in your back, and grabbed a towel.
“Come on, let’s get you out.” He said gently, lifting you out of the water and on to the towel. He wrapped you up like you were as little as Liam. “You’re starting to warm up, Bug. Your lips aren’t blue anymore…” You noticed his eyes were rimmed red. “V, can you or someone go into my room, second drawer of the dresser at the back there’s a grey shirt. Can you grab it for me?” Veronica went and retrieved the item while Lip carefully dried the water off your skin.
“What so special about this shirt?” She asked
“Softest one I own.” He said, pulling it over your head. He continued to dress you in his clothes, before taking you to his room. Fiona had already left a brush and hairdryer on the bed, figuring Lip would need them. He started brushing your hair gently, blotting the water with a towel, before he turned the dryer on to a low setting. As he dried your hair you looked at the clock on his bedside table, telling you it was gone midnight. You had no idea what time you had left your own house, and immediately felt guilty about bothering the Gallaghers with your family problems. You should have just stayed, not made a fuss, gone to bed, hidden everything under your clothes at school tomorrow and pretended you fell if anyone asked. You and Lip were fighting, you just wanted him to try harder at school, get out of the shitty neighbourhood you both called home, but it had ended in you both screaming at each other, and you telling him to go fuck himself. The hairdryer switched off and Lip followed your eyes to the clock.
“Hey, Bug, no.” He crouched down in front of you. “I don’t care that it’s late, I don’t care that we had a fight. I care that you’re ok, I care that you came to me and you trusted me. Now, Fiona will be next door, you can sleep in here and I’m gonna take the couch.”
“Stay.” It was the first thing you had said all night, coming out quiet and raspy.
“O-ok. I can stay if you’re sure that’s what you want.” You nodded. “I just gotta grab some stuff from downstairs, then I’ll be back.”
Fiona was still drinking her coffee when Lip reentered the kitchen.
“How’s she doing?” Fiona asked. Lip leaned against the counter and lit a cigarette. He took a drag before handing it to Fiona.
“Well, she spoke, which is good. I told her I was sleeping on the couch and she asked me to stay, so I guess that’s what I’m doing. V had to sew up a cut across her back, she has a fucking boot print on one side, the other isn't even skin, it’s just a bruise, her shithead dad fucking raped her and she nearly killed herself getting here, so um… I’m just hoping she’s still in the house tomorrow morning.” Fiona squeezed his shoulder then handed back the cigarette.
“Take some tea up for her, it’ll help her warm up. It’s good you’re staying with her, cuz you gotta keep an eye on hypothermic afterdrop.”
“Hypothermic what?”
“I don’t know. V said something about core temperature dropping because of cold blood? Just… make sure she stays warm and breathing and has a heartbeat, and Lip?”
“Yeah?” He looked round at his big sister.
“Don’t sleep with her.” Lip opened his mouth to argue. “I know you won’t, but I’m just… reminding you, I guess. She might tell you she wants to, but she’s really vulnerable right now. Don’t take advantage of that.”
“I won’t.” Lip said quietly. “I couldn’t do that to her…” Fiona gave him a small smile and his shoulder another squeeze.
“Get some sleep. I’ll call school in the morning, tell them you’re sick.” Lip nodded tiredly and pulled out a mug, making a fresh cup of tea for you.
“Hey, Fi?” He called as she started to leave the kitchen.
“W’sup?” Fiona turned to look at him
“Thank you. For… everything.” Fiona went back over to Lip and kissed his cheek.
“I wasn’t gonna let her freeze.” She got to the door before calling out to him “Make sure you turn the lights off.”
“Will do.” Lip finished making your tea and took it upstairs, turning off lights and appliances as he went. You were sat against the headboard and he handed you the mug.
“It’s chamomile, it’ll help, promise.” You nodded, sipping at it as Lip put on sweats and a tshirt. He got into the bed next to you, pulling the comforter over you both and stroking your hair as you finished your tea. He took the mug from you and put it aside before pressing a kiss to the top of your head. “You’re safe now. Night, Bug.”

My Montana (Cole Walter Fanfic)
Chapter 5 - Cocoa
"Wait she puts what in her hot cocoa," Josie places the mugs on the wooden table as she sits down next to Cole. Taking the mug in his hand, Cole chuckles as he looks at Josie's wide eyes.
"She puts in chili," he tells her and Josie can't help but lean back in her chair and shake her head.
"No i am sorry, i like Jackie and all but that is criminal. I'm sorry but hot cocoa should only ever have whipped cream and marshmallows if you are going to add anything at all, everything else is a no no," Cole smirks and nods his head.
"You know Danny tried it, and liked it," Josie gasps dramatically, mouth hanging open. Cole can't help but burst out into laughter.
"Oh me and him are going to be having words," Cole shakes his head and slumps back in his chair, arms crossed, laughing. Josie can't help but laugh along with him. It had been so long since she had seen Cole this happy, carefree. Their eyes meet and they both fall into silence; they look at each other for what seems like forever, it was comfortable and Josie felt like she could look into his eyes forever.
Cole clears his throat and grabs his mug, taking a sip of his cocoa. Josie looks away and puts her hands around her mug, keeping her eyes on the drink in front of her. "It's good cocoa, definitely no chili," Cole comments and Josie's mouth lifts up at the sides. She bites her tongue trying to stop herself from smiling. Cole looks at her from the corner of his eye and lets himself exhale a breath he didn't know he was holding, feeling his body relax as he does.
Sitting in silence, they finish their hot cocoa, just enjoying the company. Josie stands up taking her cup with her as she walks towards the sink, she pushes the button on the radio, bringing it to life. She turns on the tap, she lets it run for a minute as the cold water slowly turns warm. Her eyes and attention is so fixated on the water that she doesn't even notice Cole come and stand beside her, his own mug nestled in his large hands. Cole leans forward and runs his fingers through the water to check the temperature causing Josie to jump a little, turning and looking at him. Cole looks at her and smirks.
"Sorry, thought you heard me. Got something on your mind?" he asks her, taking the mug from her hand and placing them in the sink, letting the warm water fill them. Josie licks her lips and shrugs.
"Nothing really, just zoned out," Cole nods at her, accepting her answer. His eyes taking her in from beneath the stray bit of hair and smirks as an idea comes to mind. Lifting his fingers through the stream of water, he moves his hands, flicking it onto Josie causing her to gasp.
"Cole!" her voice is loud, her mouth is hanging open, slight chuckles coming from her mouth. Josie grabs one of the mugs and chucks the water at him. Cole steps back, his mouth now hanging open larger than hers. Josie stands laughing at his reaction, her hands coming to rest on her stomach as she doubles over as she laughs. Cole closes his mouth and shakes his head, a smirk on his face.
"Oh you are on," he tells her, grabbing the other mug and splashing it over her. Josie gasps in shock, her eyes meeting Coles and she closes her mouth, recovering quickly, before putting her hand in the sink and swiping water towards him. It was now a full fledged battle. Water was flying everywhere, both of them were quickly becoming more and more soaked, laughter filling the house. Josie has a mug full of water in her hand as she goes for Cole, who grabs her wrists, pulling them down as much as he can, they both have wide smiles on their faces as they fight. Her arms weaken for a second giving Cole the chance to take a hold of her, his arms wrapping around her waist as he pulls her closer to him, his hands fighting for the mug. Slipping it out of her hand, he takes it and pours the content out onto her head, which causes her to gasp and laugh at the same time.
"Cole" she says which comes out as a slight moan, causing Cole to freeze. They both stand still, Cole's arms still wrapped around her waist, her head leaning back onto his shoulder, hands laying gently on his forearms. Cole lets out a sigh, trying to keep his mind from going to other places, places that he knew he should never go to. Josie is the first to move away from the hold, letting her hands fall and she pulls against Cole, causing him to let his arms drop to his side. She takes a step away from him, putting her hands on the counter and letting her breathing even out. There was quiet once again, nothing but the quiet play of the song on the radio playing.
If the whole world was watching, I'd still dance with you
Drive highways and byways to be there with you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you
This town - Niall Horan
"Come here," Cole says, Josie turns and looks at him, eyebrows lifted ever so slightly, coming together causing a crease between them.
"What?" the question comes out of her mouth and all Cole does is put his hand out, to her. Her delicate hand meets his rougher hand, he pulls her towards him. Their eyes meet and Cole directs her hands onto his shoulders and he lets his hands hover over her waist.
"Is this okay?" he asks her and all she can do is nod. They sway together, listening to the music, allowing their heads to lean against each other. The dance was slow, like the song.
And i want to tell you everything
The words I never got to say the first time around
And i remember everything
From when we were the children, playing in their fairground
Wish i was there with you now
Cole lifts his finger to sit under her chin, lifting it so that she is looking at him, their eyes meet again, a knowing look of understanding was shared between them. Cole leans forward and Josie closes her eyes.
"Cole, what are we doing?" she asks him, causing him to shake his head.
"I don't know," he responds honestly, and she sighs.
"Then why are we doing this?" She goes to pull back but he tightens his hold on her slightly.
"Because I care for you... and maybe I ..." he is cut off by the front door opening.
"Josie, I'm back honey. Catherine said that i could come and have some lunch with you, i was thinking we could go to the Lark and get some sand..." Aunt Hat walks into the kitchen, looking at the pair. They had sprung apart when they heard the door open, there was now a large distance between the two. Hattie stands taking in the scene in front of her before speaking.
"Hi Cole, wasn't expecting to see you here," she tells him and Cole gives her one of his smiles and nods.
"Nice to see you. Sorry about the mess, but I just remembered that I have some things to do, so I gotta go," he tells her as he walks towards the front door, opening it and leaving without saying another word. Hattie turns and looks at her niece who is staring at the ground.
"What was that about?" Hattie asks, her arms held up a little. Josie shakes her head and whips her eye, a small sniffle leaves her lips.
"I'm going to get some towels. I'm sorry about the mess," Josie walks past her aunt quickly and runs up the stairs. A slam of the door causes Hattie to lift her shoulders up to her ears and groan.
"Ohh, I don't miss these days," she mutters to herself before heading to grab some towels from the closest.
You still make me nervous when you walk in the room
Them butterflies they come alive when I'm next to you
Over and over the only truth
Everything comes back to you
Everything comes back to you
Hattie cleans the kitchen and waits half an hour before venturing upstairs. "Josie?" She knocks gently on the door. "You okay?" concern was present in her voice.
"Go away," a quiet voice says from the other side of the door. Hattie sighs.
"Do you want to go for lunch and talk about it?" Hattie leans against the door and crosses her arms.
"No, I'm fine. I just want to be alone right now," Hattie groans softly, with her hands now on her face.
"Okay, well we are going to have to talk about it at some point," she treads carefully with what she is saying. Her hands slide down her sides and rest on her lower back, her finger touches the corner of her phone in her back pocket and her eyebrows raise as an idea comes to her head. She takes her phone out of her pocket and taps it in between her fingers.
"Honey, Catherine just messaged me saying she needs me back at the clinic. So you take the afternoon, think this through and we can talk about it later, okay," Hattie moves away from the door slightly.
"Okay," Josie replies and Hattie lets out a sigh in relief.
"Well, i'll see you later," Hattie says before she is walking swiftly out the house.
Hattie has never walked so fast into work before in her entire working life. Not that she hated her work or anything but god she needed to talk to Catherine. Jay, the receptionist looks at her with a confused look as she enters.
"Have a nice lunch?" he asks, causing her to groan and shake her head.
"Is Catherine available?"
"She's in her office," he tells her and she is down the hall like a bullet. Knocking the door, she opens in and sees Catherine sitting at her desk as she looks over some files on her computer. Turning, Catherine takes in her appearance raising her eyebrows.
"You okay?" Hattie slumps down on the chair in the corner and sighs.
"Can you please tell me why your son was at my house," Katherine scrunches her eyebrows together and moves her head a little.
"Cole was at your house, what was he doing?" Hattie chuckles, shaking her head.
"There was water all over the floor, they were both drenched and they were standing very, very close together," Katherine leaned back in her chair, eyes wide, mouth gaping.
"Do you think that anything happened between the two of them?" Catherine asks, causing Hattie to shake her head.
"No, no. I think I got there in time but god, them two infuriate me," Hattie says and Katherine laughs.
"The fact that these two have the biggest crushes on each other but just wont say anything, yeah i know," Hattie rolls her eyes.
"Oh my god, yes. I mean we weren't that bad when we were kids, were we? Because I don't think that I was," Katherine sighs and shakes her head.
"No we didn't but i don't think we experienced something that intense when we were that age. These two have had a connection since the first time they met," Katherine reminisces and Hattie smirks.
"An invisible string."
"Wow, you just had to make a Taylor Swift reference didn't you," Katherine says, raising an eyebrow and Hattie can't help but laugh.
"Hey, when you have a teenage girl, playing Taylor Swift the entire time you try not to."
"Imagine Parker being like that," the pair laugh.
"God, we need to do something," Hattie comments, causing Katherine to raise an eyebrow.
"Do something?" she asks and Hattie nods leaning forward.
"Hell yeah, I mean come on you can't tell me you haven't thought about taking it into our hands and giving them that push," Katherine shakes her head.
"No, we have to leave them to figure it out for themselves. I know what Cole is like, you push him, he is going to push back. And like i said, this is something intense that they are feeling for each other, we need to give them the time to sort it themselves," Hattie leans her head back on the chair and sighs.
"Well they better figure it out soon," Katherine laughs at her.
"And what are we going to do about the whole thing, being at my house, with no one else there?" Katherine shrugs at that.
"I mean, Cole is already sexually active, even though he thinks i don't know, i'm not stupid but Josie..." Hattie nods understanding.
"She hasn't. Not to my knowledge anyway." The room falls silent for a minute, neither not knowing what to say.
"I trust them both. And we both know that even if we say that they are not allowed to be around each other's house if an adult isn't there, they are going to start sneaking around," Katherine says.
"So you think that we should just let them do as they want?" Hattie asks, shocked. Katherine sighs.
"I mean, there isn't anything going on between them right now, so we should address it as..." Katherine's mouth gaps a little trying to figure out what to say.
"We should tell them that we would prefer for them to not be doing them things but if they are going to be, to be careful, use protection," Hattie puts her hands to her head.
"God this is so complicated."
"I know."
"If it wasn't early afternoon and i wasn't at work, i would open a bottle of wine," Hattie states, causing both of the women to burst out laughing. Inside though, they were hoping that how they were choosing to deal with this, was the right way of doing it.

My Montana (Cole Walter Fanfic)
Chapter 4 The visitor
"So Josie, how have you been?" the older woman sat across from her, pen in hand, book in lap. It takes a minute to reply, her nail polish becoming all of a sudden interesting.
"I've been good. You know, just been busy with school and all," her eyes don't meet the women, keeping her focus on picking the nail polish off.
"I'm assuming that's why it has been a few weeks since you have come for a session," the question is simple, all she had to do was say, and she was for some reason finding that hard to say. Her head moves up and down and she looks up and gives the woman a small smile before looking down again.
"Has there been something bothering you?" she shakes her head. The woman leans back in her chair and sighs.
"Josie, you have been coming to see me for years. You know that you can talk to me," Josie bites her lips and takes a deep breath.
"Is it normal to still have them? The nightmares. Because it has been 8 years and I am still waking up from them, multiple times a week. When does it stop? How do I make them stop?" her voice cracks and she bites down on her tongue to stop the tears threatening her eyes. The older woman looks at her, her eyebrows frowned together and she sighs.
"Everyone deals with trauma differently Josie. Some people never get over it, it's something that they always have to deal with and it never seems to stop. There usually isn't much they can do. But there is only one thing that i have seen that work," Josie looks up at the woman and scoffs.
"And what's that?"
"Find what makes you happy, cling onto it. Don't hold back on happiness because you are scared of losing it. Sometimes you have to embrace the fear in order to be happy."
Josie walks out of the building, covering her head with her jacket as the rain pours down on her. Sprinting across the car park, she flings open the door and catapults herself into the seat, slamming the door behind her. Hattie chuckles as she takes in her appearance.
"Bet you werent expecting that," she jokes, causing Hattie to shake her head.
"Definitely not what I needed," she buckles herself into the seat and leans her head back and sighs.
"So how was therapy?" Hattie asks slowly, not wanting to ask too much, she treads carefully. Josie shakes her head and lets out a breath before turning to her aunt.
"Exhausting, like it always is. You know" she turns fully in her seat and leans on the armrest in the middle. "I have been going to see June for 8 years, and just as i think i have her completely worked out, she goes and says some completely unexpected shit." Hattie chuckles.
"Sweetie, she is the therapist, she is meant to be figuring you out to help you, not the other way round," Hattie turns the key in the ignition, bringing the car to the lift and driving forward. Josie turns in her seat facing forward.
"I know, but it's fun. I mean we can't just focus on me all the time. I need to put my head somewhere else for a little bit when I'm with her," Hattie gives a soft hum in acknowledgement but keeping herself focused on the road.
"Do you feel better," Hattie asks her, letting her eyes fall to Josie for a split second. Josie shrugs.
"I mean... kinda. I don't know, she just said some stuff that I'm trying to make sense of."
"And what's that?"
"She suggested that I need to let myself be happy. Maybe being happy will help suppress the nightmares. Which dont get it," she turns her head and looks outside the car at the town as it passes by.
"And what aren't you understanding?" Hattie asks and Josie turns her eyebrows up.
"I mean, I am happy. I am doing okay in school. I have you, Danny, the rest of the boys. How can i not be happy," she expresses. Hattie purses her lips and nods.
"Yeah, I agree. But maybe, there is part of you that wants more. And it's okay if there is. There's nothing wrong with wanting more, even though some people make you feel like you are being selfish for wanting those things," Josie sighs, putting her hands on her forehead.
"I don't know. Sometimes I just wish that my head would let me get on with my life and stop tormenting me," she flops down in her seat a little and Hattie gives her a simple smile and nods her head.
"I know, it's hard. So how about I drop you home before I go back to work. You are not going to miss much if you take the day off of school. I know that Miss Jacobs will understand," Josie looks over at her aunt and allows her lips to curl up a little bit.
"Thank Aunt Hat."
Turns out agreeing to stay at home was the worst thing that she could have done. She sat leaning against her headboard, guitar placed in her lap as she strummed the strings quietly, trying to think about anything other than what June said. This is why she hates going to therapy, why she asked Aunt Hat to let her take a break from therapy for a while because everytime June would say something that would cause her to go into her head and start questioning her life.
Humming, she changes key and she plays the song gold rush by Taylor Swift, letting her eyes trail around her room as she mutters the lyrics. Her room was painted with an off white color, besides the wall behind her bed which was painted a burnt orange. A few posters of her favorite singers were on the wall next to the door. A white desk sat in the corner of the room, a mix of music sheets and homeworks littered it. Polaroids were strung up with fairy lights above it, polaroids of her and Danny, Aunt Hattie, the other walter boys, some taken back when she first came here, now slightly faded with the sun that beams into her room most day. Though that was not a problem today.
Sighing, she lets her fingers leave the guitar, slipping it off of her lap and next to the bed and sliding down the cushions until she was laying, pretty much flat on her back staring at the ceiling. Little, plastic stars decorated the ceiling, once upon a time they had the ability to glow in the dark but after being up there for so many years they have lost their magic. Josie remembers the day when her and Aunt Hat spent hours putting them on.
It was one of the first few weeks of her living there, she had woken up most mornings, screaming from the nightmares, remembering the blood. Aunt Hat would come in, taking her into her arms and consoling her as best she could but they kept happening, so that was when she started to see June. She suggested that they put something in her room that will help distract her, so that when she wakes up from nightmares that she could focus on them and hopefully it should help her realize that they were merely bad memories and that she was past that. And that's when the idea of the glow in the dark stars came about.
Aunt Hat had ordered them online and was like a kid and christmas the day they arrived, so excited to put them up with Josie. They spent most of the day putting them up and at night when it became dark, they both lay on her bed looking up as they lit the room, and Josie felt a sense of calm from them. After that the nightmares became less and less frequent, and though they didn't completely go away, they were not as big of a problem anymore. Until the last few months, where for some reason they were becoming worse and more frequent. Why? Josie didn't know.
Lying down, for what feels like forever, she feels her eyes start to flutter shut, sleep calling to her, her body starts to feel heavy, her muscles letting go of all of her problems. Sleep was just in her grasp when it was ripped away by the knocking on the door. Her muscles tense up again, her eyes now wide open, all calls of sleep silenced. Groaning, she lifts herself off of her bed and she stomps down the stairs, ready to tell off whoever it was who decided that they had the right to disturb her sleep.
Reaching the door, she takes the handle in her hand in a tight grip and rips it open coming face to face with the person on the other side of the door in a flash.
"What," she bites out, regretting the way she said it as soon as it leaves her lips. Cole stands on the other side of the door, his face changing to shock at her outburst. He puts his hands out to her in surrender, a smile playing on his lips.
"Wow, okay. Hey Montana. Lovely to see you on this fine day; well not really fine day," he says, a slight joking tone in his voice as he tries to lighten the situation. Josie, feeling horrible about her action, sighs and puts a hand on her head.
"I'm sorry Cole, I shouldn't have acted like that. I was just surprised that anyone came around today," she apologized, looking him in the eyes. Cole puts his hands down and smirks at her.
"It's cool," Josie pulls her hand off of her head and crosses her arms around herself as his graze is on her.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at school?" she asks, confused. He puts his hands in the pockets of his jacket and shrugs at her.
"Nothing really important is happening there. Shouldn't you be at school?" he asks, his eyebrows raise a tiny bit.
"I had a migraine."
"You don't still have a migraine do you? I can get you something if you need," Cole asks, the smirk leaving his face, concern plasters his face. Josie can't help but blush at how quickly he became concerned for her. She offers him a smile and shakes her head.
"No, I'm fine , thank you. I just went back to sleep, woke up completely fine," Coles face relaxes, all of the concern leaving his body as he lets out a breath.
"That's good," he says nodding at her, his head leaning down a little avoiding her gaze. They stand there in silence for a moment, neither of them knowing what to say.
"Do you want to come in?" Josie says boldly. Cole lifts his head and his eyes meeting hers, his lips turn up.
"Yeah, I would love that," Josie opens the door and lets him walk past her and into the house. She closes the door and turns around and faces him as he looks around him, taking in everything.
"You know, i can't remember the last time i was in your house," he tells her, she chuckles.
"I think the last time you were in here was for my 12th birthday. You all came over and the house wasn't big enough for all of us, so Aunt Hat and Katherine agreed that they would host my birthday at your house from then on," Cole silently chuckles, remembering that day.
"I remember. You, me and Danny ended up sitting outside when we were eating the cake, wanting to get some peace and quiet from the rest of the kids," Josie giggles.
"It was chaotic."
"It's always chaotic with us. Some more than others."
"Not always," Josie says, Cole looks at her, shocked at her understanding what he was insinuating. One side of Josie's lip lifts up in a smile and Cole can feel himself warm up.
"It's pretty cold in here," he tells her, rubbing his hands up his arms. Josie grows and turns around, walking down the hall.
"I'll put the heat on," she calls to him as she pushes some of the buttons. Cole looks around the corner as she does it. Turning around, she sees Cole looking at her and she smiles walking towards him. "It'll take a bit for the house to heat up, so how about some hot chocolate?" And how could Cole turn down that offer?

My Montana (Cole Walter fanfic)
Chapter 3
"Okay everyone, dinner" Georges shout carries through the house causing the troops to march down to the kitchen. It's like a war scene as everyone gets into their chairs, plates being handed out, food getting shoved onto plates and then into their mouths. Josie has eaten here hundreds of times and she still has never gotten used to dinner time in the Walter house. How George and Katherine do this, three times a day, everyday. Josie doesn't know, but she loves it. Anyone who just walked in and saw it, would see it as being complete chaos and yes, they would be right, but it's organized chaos. Everyone is so used to each other that they know where everyone sits and who dives in to get their food first, no arguments about it and that feels like a skill.
Josie takes her seat near the end of the table, sitting between Danny and Cole, who turns his head and looks at her as he takes his seat, a faint smirk on his lips. Josie returns the jester before grabbing a slice of garlic bread and puts her slender hand out for him to take it. Cole looks at her for a moment, taking the offer. Twirling her hand a little, Josie rolls her eyes causing him to silently chuckle, taking it out of her hand and taking a bite, his eyes never leaving her. Josie chuckles before turning and grabbing herself a slice of lasagna. "You are going to smell," she tells him, placing her plate down and taking her knife and fork into her hands and cutting the meal.
Cole smirks at her, leaning across her and grabbing the lasagna dish in order to get himself a slice. Before sitting down he allows himself to whisper in her ear, "well I guess you are just going to have to make sure that I have brushed my teeth then." Sitting back down, he slides a piece of lasagna out of the dish and onto his plate, going to eat it. Josie can't help but lean over and whisper in his ear. "And how am I to do that?" she asks him as she leans back a little, putting her head on her hand, facing him and looking him in the eyes.
Cole snickers at her before putting his hand out and moving a piece of her hair out of her face and behind her ear. "I can think of more than one way," was all he said before turning to his dinner and stuffing it into his mouth. Josie removes her hand from under her chin and moves herself around so she is looking straight in front of her.
"Hey everyone," a cheerful voice says as they enter the dining room. Katherine walks in with a smile on her face and Josie's Aunt Hattie on her heels as they enter. A chorus of muffled hi's are heard through the dining room causing Hattie and Katherine to smile at all of them. George stands up and kisses his wife on the cheek causing her to pat his face with her hand. "Smells good," she tells him as she takes her seat at the table. Hattie sits next to Katherine, giving the kids a small wave of acknowledgement which earned her some smiles.
"So how was everyone's day," Katherine asks as she puts her food on her plate. Moans of alright and weren't too bad were heard across the room and Katherine chuckles turning to her husband.
"They are all very cheery today, aren't they?" George simply shakes his head, the corner of his lips turned up. "Tell me about it."
"So mom, Hattie, what did you do today?" Nathan asks, looking at his mother intently.
"Well we had to go and help Mrs Wilson's cow give birth as the baby was breech. Luckily we were able to see both mother and baby but it was touch and go," Katherine explains before taking a bite of her dinner. Hattie swallows some of her food before speaking.
"And then we had to go and help Mr McCarthy's dog who was foaming at the mouth. Heat stroke and exhaustion, apparently the poor thing ran off this morning and has been running around in the heat all day," Josie leans forward in her chair.
"Well, the dog is okay right?" she asks, concerned. Hattie looks at her niece and smiles.
"The dog, Honey, is fine. We brought her to the clinic to get some fluid in her and to observe her but she should be home by tomorrow," Katherine pipes up with a laugh.
"Well she clearly felt all better after Mr McCarthy brought out the treats. Dog sat up, wagged her tail and walked over to him like there was nothing wrong with her," the whole table giggled, a few 'typicals' getting chucked around. Soon the table falls into simple conversation between everyone else, a good meal was all it took for everyone to pipe up and all Josie can do is sit back and watch everyone be happy. All Cole can do is watch her.
Later that evening, Josie is in Alex and Nathan's room, sitting at the end of Nathan's bed with her guitar in hand and him at the top of the bed, facing her. "Okay, you think you got it," she asks him as she lets her hands fall from the guitar. Nathan nods his head and places his hands in position and starts strumming at the strings. The songs flow nicely, a little slower than they should and the occasional wrong note but seeing as they had only been practicing for an hour it wasn't too bad.
Nathan's fingers strum the last of the tune and then allows his lean fingers to leave the strings and Josie smiles and claps. Nathan turns his head, a tint of red on his cheeks as he gives her a little grin and rubs his hand on the back of his neck. "Come on, that was terrible," Josie shakes her head at him.
"Nathan, that was good. You only started learning the song an hour ago and I must say that seeing as invisible string is one of my favorite songs, I think I am qualified to say that was very impressive," Nathan chuckles before putting his guitar between him and Josie.
"Well, I had a good teacher," he tells her and all she can do is nod.
"Okay, whatever you want to say. I don't want to go around in a useless argument," Josie tells him as she puts her guitar back in its case. Alex walks into the room and smiles at the pair, giving them a small smile.
"Hey, are you two done playing?" He sits down in his chair facing his computer, turning it on.
"Yeah, we just finished off. Josie will be going soon anyway," Nathan explains and Alex turns towards the pair and nods.
"Great, I promised Kiley that I would play online with her for a bit," Josie smiles, locking her case and lifting it.
"Well rooms all yours," Josie stands with her case and walks to the door.
"Hey Josie," she turns and looks at Alex whose face is now flat.
"Yeah?"
"What's going on between you and Cole?"
"Dude," Nathan exclaims. Josie freezes up, confused by the question. She turns her body and leans against the door frame, eyebrows scrunched together, lips lifted ever so slightly.
"What do you mean what is going on between me and Cole. There's nothing going on between me and Cole," she explains and Alex raises his eyebrows, looking unimpressed.
"Well you two seemed to be very cozy at the dinner table today, and that's not the first time that you two have been all cozy with each other. So..." he leans forward in his chair and rests his elbows on his knees. "What's the deal?" Josie tilts her head back and laughs.
"Absolutely nothing is going on," she moves her free arm around and her head moves around a bit when she is talking. "I mean Alex come on, I have known you all for years, best friends with Danny for years and friends with Cole for years. Don't you think that if something was ever going to happen between us, not that there ever will, it would have happened by now," Alex simply laughs.
"Well I think we all know that Cole is incapable of having anything serious," Alex snarks, Nathan scoffs and shakes his head at his brother. Josie runs her tongue over her top lip and nods her head.
"Alex, you know what, I am not listening to this. Whatever problem you have with Cole, that's between you two but don't involve me. And there is nothing going on between me and Cole, so just drop it," Josie storms out of the room having had enough with Alex. If he wanted to pull at strings to cause drama then he could do that, but Josie was not going to sit and listen to it.
Storming down the hallway, all she could think about was getting some fresh air. She felt like she was suffocating, maybe it was just the adrenaline wearing off.
"Josie," a voice calls. Her head snaps around and she sees her Aunt Hattie standing in the entryway to the kitchen. "You okay," she asks her as she walks towards her. Josie bites her lip and nods ever so slightly.
"Yeah, im fine i just need some fresh air," the words were said slowly, she was pushing them out of her mouth. Hattie picks up her pace grabbing ahold of her niece's arms and directing her outside. The fresh air hits Josie and she has never been so happy to feel the breeze on her face.
"Let's sit down," Hattie directs her over to one of the benches. After sitting down, Josie leans her head back, closes her eyes and exhales. Hattie rubs her hand up the younger girl's arms trying to sooth her like she always does.
"Do you want to tell me what is going on?" she asks and Josie just takes in a deep breath.
"I just... got panicky."
"Panicky, panicky about what?" Hattie was confused. Josie lifts her shoulders up and shakes her head, opening eyes.
"Honestly... I have no idea. I mean it could be because of Alex," Josie offers, looking at her aunt.
"What did Alex do?" Hattie leans back to get a better look at the girl.
"Oh... just getting onto my case about Cole," Hattie rolls her eyes.
"Well that doesn't surprise me. Them two seriously need to figure out whatever it is that is going on between them," Josie snickers and plays with the paint of her fingernails.
"That's what is said," Hattie looks at hers and gives her a pock on her shoulder causing Josie to look up at her, eyes wide.
"What was that for?" she gasps and Hattie raises her eyebrows at her.
"There's more too, isn't there," Josie can't help but choke on her words.
"I mean... he was also insinuating that there was something going on between me and Cole," Hattie's mouth falls open and she gapes at Josie. Josie looks at her and shakes her head, her eyes wide.
"NO," she tells her aunt with her finger pointed up at her.
"Is there something going on between you and Cole," Hattie whispers, leaning forward slightly.
"No, of course not. I would never go down that lane," Josie says, raising her eyebrows a little.
"And why not?"
"Because Aunt Hat, it's Cole. He is Cole Walter, the most popular boy in school, who is known for sleeping around and I have known him since I was a kid. I'm best friends with his brother. His siblings are like my siblings and his mom is like my second mom. I'm essentially his sister," Josie exclaims, her arms moving around. Hattie scoffs and shakes her head.
"Josie, you know that is the biggest load of bull. There is no way that Cole sees you as his sister, there's just no way. I know that and you know that. So what is this really about," Hattie's face is pointed down, eyebrows raised in a knowing look. Josie can't help but scrunch her face up and let out a frustrated groan.
"I don't know. There I know there is no reason for us not to start anything. I mean we have known each other for years, are good friends most of the time and i... kinda like him," Josie admits and Hattie can't help shooting her arms up in the air and shouting in happiness.
"I knew it. I knew it," she sings songs and Josie shushes her.
"Would you be quiet, we are literally at their house. Last thing I need is for one of them to hear and blab to him. And stop acting like a teen you are nearly in your 40s," Josie scolds and Hattie just laughs.
"Oh come on, let me have some fun, and hey you admitted that you like him. That's huge Jos. Now all you have to do is tell him," Josie's eyes go wide.
"No, it's not happening. I am not telling him. Aunt Hat that can not happen."
"And why not?" Hattie exclaims.
"Because I am going through stuff. He is going through some stuff so it wouldn't be good for us to start something right now or ever," Hattie puts her head to the side and sighs.
"I swear, why are teen relationships so complicated? God I don't miss it," she exclaims and Josie just laughs.
"Yeah and I can't wait to not have to deal with them anymore." Then there is silence, comfortable silence where neither one of them speaks and just processes everything that has been said. Hattie leans forward and puts her hand on Josie's arm.
"You will tell me if anything is bothering you or if something does happen. Just tell me okay," Josie smiles at her and nods.
"Of course, I will. But nothing is going to happen, so you don't have to worry," Hattie leans her back and groans.
"I can't deal with this anymore. Come on," she stands up and holds her hands out towards Josie.
"I think it is time for us to go home," Josie agrees. It had been a long day and she really wanted her bed.
Disclaimer - I am not following the plotline of my life with the Walter boys as closely and am using the characters and making my own story. I will be taking some plotlines from the series but it won't directly follow the show. Also, this book is not going to focus on the build up to the relationship but the actual relationship.
