4th Annual Ride Festival – One Week Away!

The Ride Festival hits Telluride, Colorado in only one week, July 11-12, 2015! Each summer, the thoughtfully curated Americana/rock festival nestles seamlessly into its stunning mountain setting for a world-class, weekend-long destination music experience.

THE LINEUP

The schedule is released, and I for one cannot wait for 2 nights of WSMFP! Widespread Panic has been absolutely killing their summer tour, and every show just keeps getting better and better!

Just two weeks before RIDE, Panic just completed an epic three night Red Rocks run, quickly approaching fifty consecutive sold out shows at the infamous venue and holding their record strong at 48. Panic played some amazing covers including The Band’s “Ophelia” and “The Shape I’m In” and a dirty cover of Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West” with New Orleans Suspects pianist CR Gruver – just in the first night. The Saturday show featured Grateful Dead cover “Cream Puff War” to pay tribute to the Santa Clara Fare Thee Well kickoff, and Sunday came together with “Use Me,” “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers, as well as a tribute to recently deceased Yes bassist Chris Squire on “The Fish. Never miss a Sunday show – and we are in for another one next weekend!

THE VENUE

Telluride Town Park is home to a multitude of activities throughout the year. During the summer, it is host to many music festivals and the Park’s campground, and various outdoor activities. The historic Fred Shellman Memorial Stage, in Telluride Town Park, is the main performance venue for The RIDE Festival. This world-class venue is one of the most beautiful places to experience an outdoor music festival. As Steve Earle summed up after a RIDE Festival performance, “It’s a beautiful venue. The only problem is not forgetting your lyrics when you’re looking at the scenery. The view off the stage is by far the best in the world, the best I’ve ever played.”

Sunset Plaza is located in Mountain Village along Mountain Village Boulevard towards the core area. Conveniently located with easy access from Blue Mesa Parking Lot, the Chondola, and Gondola, which offers free transportation from down-town Telluride to Mountain Village. Sunset plaza is aptly named for its west-facing orientation resulting in a magnificent sunset back-drop for the stage.

The Sheridan Opera House is truly center stage in Telluride’s thriving arts community. Historic, intimate and beautiful, it is an extraordinary venue for everything from concerts to movie premieres to private events. The Historic Sheridan Opera House was built by the Telluride miners in 1913 as a vaudeville theater and cultural center, attracting variety shows, orchestras and touring theater companies. Performers from Lillian Gish to Sarah Bernhardt to Jackson Browne to Jimmy Buffet have graced its stage. In 1991 the Sheridan Arts Foundation was created, saving the Opera House from demolition.

Once one of Telluride’s oldest bars, The Roma contains a period piece downstairs, an 1860 Brunswick-Balke-Collener Company bar of carved walnut, with exquisite 12-foot French mirrors on the back bar. The Roma was one of the wildest and most raucous saloons in town. It was renovated in 1983, and again in 2006 to become a Pan-Asian restaurant called Honga’s Lotus Petal.

Founded with the original brick hotel, the New Sheridan Bar is one of the oldest bars in the west and a dear favorite among the locals. Come and enjoy a warming cocktail after a long day on the slopes or chat with locals to discover the best-kept secrets of Telluride. The bar has remained unchanged since 1895, boasting its original lead glass divider panels, mahogany wood paneling and filigree light fixtures. This piece of the town’s history is a tried and true good time. Join us at the hand-carved bar for a finely aged scotch or a pint of your preferred lager.

ARISE Permaculture Action Day with The Polish Ambassador! 

Thursday, August 6th, 10am - 4pm

This year the Polish Ambassador and ARISE are teaming up to head the calls of the Earth. Join in as we make the leap from sustainability to regeneration during our first ever Permaculture Action Day. As an extension of the Polish Ambassador’s Permaculture Action Tour there will be an earth-based, hands-on, project day at Sunrise Ranch on Thursday, August 6th. Skillshares, potlucks, music, natural building, hands on projects and more is what you can expect. Come get your hands dirty with your favorite Diplomat and his team of activators. Participation in the Action Day is free but there is VERY limited space. Each person MUST register ahead of time. The registration page will be released soon so stay tuned to join the party with a purpose.

3rd Annual Snowmass Mammoth Fest - This Weekend!

One of the most scenic music festivals in Colorado, Snowmass Mammoth Fest takes place in Snowmass Village, CO, June 12-14, 2015. The festival is a three-day celebration of music and microbrews, held in Snowmass Town Park, an outdoor music venue with breathtaking mountains for a backdrop. Join us for three days of Music, Brews and Chili, featuring on-site camping, late night shows, national touring bands, a wide variety of food and craft vendors, children's activities, a grand beer tasting with over 25 microbreweries, and the renowned International Chili Society (ICS) tasting.

Beyond the artists performing on stage, there will also be dozens of craft beer and food artisans on site showcasing their skills throughout the weekend. An eclectic assortment of 25 microbreweries from Colorado and beyond will showcase a tasteful variety of over 70 premium beers and cider selections during the Grand Tasting on Saturday from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. in Snowmass Town Park. On Friday, the first of a two part Chili Grand Tasting will kick off at the Snowmass Village Mall at 5 p.m.during the Free Friday music scheduling. The second offering of a dozen Southwestern chili cooks showcasing their competition-grade red chili, green chili, and salsa is set to happen at Noon on Saturday in the same location. Cooking begins early in the day, and the public is invited to try samples and mingling with cooks to help decide their vote for People's Choice Award. Following International Chili Society (ICS) rules, a panel of expert judges will select three top winners in each category, with 1st place winner advancing to the ICS World Championships.

The town of Snowmass features more than 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, including an extensive lift-served free-ride and downhill trail network that was recently named a Bronze Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Bicycling Association. Visitors can also enjoy gold medal fly-fishing, Class V whitewater rafting and kayaking, and weekly events that include a Western Rodeo, Sunset dinners, and ACES-guided nature walks. Snowmass Mammoth Fest has also partnered with Four-Mountain Sports, Patagonia and Aspen Sports to bring you the ultimate festival weekend experience. While in Snowmass for Mammoth Fest be sure to take advantage of exclusive discounts and promotions available to you as a participant by getting the GoSnowmass Card. To assist patrons in getting around Snowmass and the surrounding area, additional transportation options are being made available this year. RFTA now departs Snowmass and Aspen every 30 minutes on the 15th and 45th minute of the hour between 7:15 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.. Snowmass Mammoth Festival's very own transport bus option named Ramblin' is set to depart Snowmass Town Park Station and Aspen near Ruby Park every 30 minutes on the top of the hour and 30th minute mark from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Additionally the loop from the Snowmass Village Mall to Snowmass Town Park Station loop will be available every 10 minutes during peak hours, and every 20 minutes on Friday and later hours on Saturday. The 2015 Snowmass Mammoth Fest artist line-up includes The Wheels of Soul Tour featuring Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Doyle Bramhall II, Greensky Bluegrass, The Lone Bellow and many more. Beanstalk Music & Mountains Festival - Daily Schedule!

Beanstalk Music & Mountains Festival has released the daily music schedule for the 2015 festival. Kicking things off on the Main Stage for the Thursday night pre-party are Brothers Gow and Kitchen Dwellers. Friday night's headliners are Kyle Hollingsworth Band with Michael Kang and The Magic Beans, and on Saturday, attendees will see Juno What!, two sets of Joe Russo's Almost Dead and The Magic Beans. Closing out the festival on Sunday are Magic Brownies, Hollywood Nights and The Magic Beans.

The 3rd annual Beanstalk Music & Mountains Festival taking place this weekend, May 29th-31st at State Bridge Amphitheater in Bond, Colorado, will feature an array of special music projects. The Magic Brownie Super Jam features Marc Brownstein and Allen Aucoin of The Disco Biscuits with Scott Hachey and Casey Russell of The Magic Beans with more special guests. In addition, Hollywood Nights, composed of Aron Magner & Allen Aucoin of The Disco Biscuits, Tom Hamilton of American Babies plus Joe Russo's Almost Dead and Clay Parnell of Particle.

Festival goers are encouraged to participate in the daily themes at Beanstalk this year: Studio 54 on Friday, Space Cowboy on Saturday and Zombie Celebrities on Sunday. Beanstalk will also feature outdoor activities such as rafting, SUP, hiking and more. State Bridge Amphitheater is located along the banks of the Colorado River, offering a truly unique concert experience in the Rockies. Rancho del Rio will be the official camping location for 2015, just a short trip down the road, with free shuttles running to and from State Bridge all weekend.

YOGA

Campout's riverside yoga platform sits between the Main Stage and the Camping Area, so it's a true focal point for community gathering. Experience a variety of class styles and instructors throughout the weekend, whether you're looking for a quiet morning flow or a rigorous afternoon sweat. Acoustic sets from visiting artists will often fill the air in and around the yoga tent -- creating the ultimate space for movement and music. HAND DRUMMING WORKSHOPS 

"There can be calm in the midst of noise.  My mind quiets as I play... suspending its judgements, rehearsals, and self-reproaching."

Come discover the simple techniques to creating hand drum rhythms so play alone or in your next circle.  Instruments will be provided but please bring your drum!  This class  is an introduction to hand drums and rhythm.  The course specifically designed for people who have always been attracted to drumming but not sure how to get started. In this introductory, hands-on course, you will learn hand-drumming basics: proper body and hand positioning, correct drumming technique,   anda variety of diverse rhythms. You will discover the power of your natural rhythm, and will work with rhythms from Africa, Brazil, Cuba and others. No prior experience needed.

Last night after Jazz Fest I had the amazing pleasure of going to Nevilles Forever, and event to celebrate the Neville brothers (Aaron, Art, Charles, and Cyril) and their music, as well as to say thank you for their contributions to the city of New Orleans. The farewell event included performances by Trombone Shorty, Widespread Panic, Galactic, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Dr John, Anders Osborne, Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, Terence Blanchard, John Boutte, and more!

Greetings from Jazz Fest!

Halfway through New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and I never want to leave New Orleans! The spirit of this town is contagious and inspiring!

There are 12 stages at Jazz Fest, leaving you with plenty of options to wander the fairgrounds! Some of my favorite discoveries have been the Charmaine Neville Band and the Trumpet Mafia, alongside some of my favorite artists including Widespread Panic, TAUK, Bonerama, Galactic with Macy Gray, The Word, and so many more!

This fest is unique in that music only runs from 11am-7pm at the actual venue - but then there are infinite aftershows all around the French Quarter and the rest of the city. Last night I went to Howlin’ Wolf for the Bayou Rendezvous - which had music until 8am followed by breakfast! Only in New Orleans do bars stay open for 24 hours - or in the case of Jazz Fest, many are open for 72+!

Now who is ready for some Elton John tonight?!
