The fun is back this summer as the Richmond Night Market opens up to all visitors! This is the largest Night Market in all of North America which attracts over 1 million visitors each year. Every year, the Richmond Night Market is growing by offering an amazing variety of street food from all over the world, merchandise and games to play while visiting! Capacity will still be reduced to ensure health and safety. So make sure to come early to have your evening filled up with fun!

With the past year being a rollercoaster for all, let’s all go on a rollercoaster that we’d actually want to enjoy at the PNE! The annual Fair at the PNE returns for the 111th time this year with more fun to look forward to. Enjoy the exhibits, play some games, go on some amusement rides, enjoy all of the food you can eat and much, much more! The summers in BC always save the best events for last and the PNE is the best way to end off the summer! Capacity is limited so purchase tickets in advance before they sell out because you won’t want to miss out this year!

3. Sporting Events, Vancouver Date: Year-round after Phase 4 of BC Restart Plan
Tumblr media
Vancouver is a city that loves to be active and play sports. Being the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics, places to play and watch sports in Vancouver and the surrounding areas are growing exponentially. The competitive spirit that the residents of this province show for the local teams is amazing and definitely something to experience. Hear the crowd cheer when the Vancouver Canucks or Whitecaps score a goal or when the BC Lions score a touchdown. Even if you don’t enjoy watching sports on TV, going to the games and experiencing them is on a whole new level of fun and entertainment! Check out events happening at Rogers Arena or B.C. Place to reserve your seat for a day of fun and cheering!

4. Harrison Beer Festival, Harrison Hot Springs Date: October 17, 2021
Tumblr media
Cheers to Craft Beer Month in Harrison Hot Springs! Experience local craft B.C. beer, local food and the hot springs during October. The event will be celebrated a little differently this year because of the restrictions but the spirit will be kept alive so everyone can still enjoy Craft Beer Month. Celebrate the festival along with the Fraser River Lodge and Old Yale Brewing by experiencing their food & drinks. Book the weekend off and make your way to Harrison Hot Springs to taste some locally made beer paired with some delicious food! Book a hotel in advance because they do get booked up really quickly at this time of year!

5. Northern Lights Festival, Fort Nelson Date: November 12 - November 21, 2021
Tumblr media
Northern BC’s longest winter musical and cultural festival has been postponed from March to November of 2021. The wait is almost over as this secret event is starting to get noticed by a lot more people. This North-Eastern community of British Columbia sees the most days with clear skies which gives more opportunities to experience the magical Northern Lights. There is always a giant snowman that is built and that is something you won’t want to miss out on seeing! Experience almost everything the North beyond the wall has to offer during the 2 weeks of the festival. Pack for the winter because it will be cold!

They are well known for their mini Liege Waffles that are miniature waffles that come in a box of 7. Make sure you get there right at 10am when they start serving them before they get sold out. They also offer savoury waffles which would be a good place for brunch if you prefer savoury for breakfast.

10 travel safety tips in summer
Hello adventurers, this is Lina again! 💁🏻‍♀️ I would like to share with you my 10 travel safety tips that make your summer trip more enjoyable and safe! ☀️
As the weather is getting nicer, a lot more people are starting to go to the beach, hiking, camping, or even road trip! We know we're excited to get out there as just as you are so let's get started! 🚗.
1. Don't forget your mask and sanitizer 😷🧴
Tumblr media
People around the world are starting to get vaccinated and the COVID-19 situation is getting way better than before but we should still be careful when we go traveling or go to crowded areas. So, don't forget to bring your mask and sanitizer! I hope everything goes back to normal soon so that our gem leaders and adventurers can travel together more often! 🙏🏻
2. Don't leave valuables in your car 🚙🙅🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
When you go to travel, you might bring a lot of stuff inside the car, so make sure to roll up windows and lock doors when leaving your car for anything. Please avoid leaving valuables such as laptop bags and suitcases as well as spare change visible through the windows.☝🏻
Parking in an open place is one of the ways to protect your car, or getting a security system is a good idea. It will not only alert you if your car is being broken into, but the alarms will also attract the attention of people around the car, preventing the carjacking as well as catching the thief red-handed.
3. Bring A Small Bag 👜
Tumblr media
Bring a small bag that you can bring your valuables such as a car keys, phone, wallet, and passport. I recommend buying a fanny pack or hip sack bag for maximum convenience! I use this bag every time I travel with my adventurers. You can wear it on your wrist or across your body, so your hands are free and also you don't have to worry about losing any of your valuables✌🏻.
4. Make copies of important documents 📄
Tumblr media
Make copies or screenshots of important documents you need while traveling. I know it might sound old-fashioned, but it's always good to prepare for the unexpected! 😁
Usually, people take screenshots and save them on their mobile phones. But I recommend you print paper documents such as tickets, itineraries, or reservation confirmations, just in case your phone dies or has a low battery, and bring them with you in your small bag. It will be easier to find the information you need right away!
5. Apply Sunscreen ✨
Tumblr media
Well, this is my personal experience but last summer, I was too excited to enjoy the water sports at the beach and forgot to apply sunscreen. Then I got the first-degree sunburn and had to go to the emergency room at night. Let's not make this mistake again! 😂
I hope our adventurers won't have the same experience I had and also it will take quite a long time for your skin to get fully recovered from the sunburn. So I recommend you using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 which blocks 97 percent of the sun's UVB rays, and applying at least 30 minutes before you go outside.
If you want to travel with our Gem Leaders next summer too, don't forget to bring sunscreen!
6. Bring Bug Spray 🐞
Tumblr media
Unlike the winter, people sweat a lot and it's easy to be bitten by bugs. Especially, if you are planning to travel to B.C., it's one of your must-bring items. There are countless hidden gem places in B.C. and a lot of them are parks, mountains, beaches and you know what that means! Pesky mosquitoes to join us on these adventures!
Let's protect ourselves with some spray! 💪🏻
If you want to read more about how to correctly apply insect spray, check this link below! 👇🏻
https://off.com/en/education/insects-101/how-to-correctly-apply-insect-repellent
7. Be Careful Of Wild Animals 🏞
Tumblr media
British Columbia is known for its nature but as beautiful as it is we do not share this land alone. As you travel up the mountain, you may encounter some wild animals like Grizzly bears and coyotes. Though we make sure our trails are safe away from a bear's home, we never know when they might trail out of their homes to find some food.
Make sure to keep your distance when encountering a wild animal. Keep your distance and remain calm! ✋🏻
8. Follow Your Tour Guides 💁🏻‍♂️
Tumblr media
Mostly we travel to places we've never been before, and because we get very excited it's very easy to be distracted. If you are doing guided tours, please follow your guides!
They are fully trained guides and have more local experience, so they will not only guide you to good places but also take care of your safety well. Our Gem Leaders are also professional tour guides, and we always put your safety first! 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦
9. Follow Warning Signs 🚫
Tumblr media
You can see many warning signs while traveling. You can find them during hiking, camping, driving, or even at the attractions. Because you might not be familiar with those places you visit, the best way is to follow those warning signs wherever you are. Unexpected things can happen anytime, so we should always be careful!🚷
10. Stay Hydrated! 🏝
Tumblr media
When you’re traveling, it’s tempting to leave behind your water bottle because it’s bulky, heavy, or both, but it's very important to be hydrated especially in the summer. Try to drink at least 8 ounces of water per hour. The body uses water to process other beverages we consume. It helps your body feel less tired during the vacation! 🍶
These are my 10 safety tips and I hope it helps you fully enjoy your summer travel! ❤️

5 Best Not-So-Secret Beaches in B.C.
Hi there! It’s Andy again. Ready to cool down and hit the beach this summer? I know I am! Come, follow along to see where to hang out during the hot summers in British Columbia. Even if you don’t know how to swim, these beaches are still an amazing place to hang out for everyone! Let’s get started!
1. Iona Beach Regional Park, Richmond
Tumblr media
Iona Beach is always crowded just before the sunset. So make sure to get here an hour before! The park is located just north of the Vancouver International Airport so you can watch planes land or take off. Along the jetty, you can go for a long walk to get some exercise, relax and let off some steam. Stay long enough and you’ll hear the frogs ribbit when you leave just after sunset. The park is always so quiet and calm even though it gets busy. Very relaxing place. Bring some food to share with friends and family and enjoy having a picnic! If you decide to watch the sunset, watch out for the mosquitoes at night.
For more information: http://www.metrovancouver.org/services/parks/parks-greenways-reserves/iona-beach-regional-park
2. Wreck Beach, Vancouver
Tumblr media
Wreck Beach is a place like no other! This one-of-a-kind beach is located at the University of British Columbia. What makes Wreck Beach a must-see is that it is North America’s largest clothing optional beach! Don’t forget your water! Just down 500 steps, take in the panoramic view of the endless Pacific Ocean. Listen to the instruments visitors are playing or purchase some local art as you walk along to find a log to sit on. Everyone at Wreck beach is super friendly and are always wanting to meet new people. When the tide is low, walk along the shoreline or take a dip in the ocean. Make sure to stay to experience the beautiful sunset.
For more information: https://vancouversbestplaces.com/top-attractions/vancouvers-best-beaches/wreck-beach/
3. Kitsilano Beach, Vancouver
Tumblr media
Kitsilano Beach also goes by the name of “Kits Beach” by locals, is a place that pops into my head when thinking about where to enjoy summer in Vancouver! Kitsilano Beach is always crowded with people sunbathing, having picnics, play games or relaxing. The outdoor Kitsilano pool is the longest pool in Canada which makes this a perfect spot to go for a swim since the ocean water is sometimes cold. Bring a volleyball for the beach or a basketball and play at the courts. There is also a tennis court if you want to get some more exercise! Grab a table at the Boathouse Restaurant located on the beach and get a view of the city and the mountains while you enjoy your meal and drinks.
For more information: https://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/kitsilano-beach.aspx
4. Long Beach, Tofino
Tumblr media
Long Beach is the longest sandiest beach located on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Long beach is also home to one of the popular locations to surf in all of Canada. The sounds and views from this beach are very calming and peaceful. This is also another reason why it attracts many surfers, kayakers and swimmers. Catch up with friends and family as you soak up the Sun on a sunny day at the beach. Start a beach fire after watching the sunset into the ocean to make this an even more peaceful night. Listen to the waves come in as you reflect on life.
For more information: https://www.gotofino.com/tofinobeachestrails/all-beaches-trails/long-beach-tofino-bc/
5. Cosens Bay, Kelowna
Tumblr media
Take in the view of the tropical green waters of Kalamalka Lake located in the Okanagan Valley. Hike the 2.5km dirt road trail along the Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park or a boat to get to Cosens Bay. Bring some water with you during the hot summers because it’s all uphill going back. Look around and experience the desert landscape where you might see some creatures like rattlesnakes. Once you get to the beach area, you will see the amazing view that Cosens Bay has to offer along with the green colours of the lake and fine white sand. There is lots of shade if you want to hide from the hot sun and also some picnic tables to enjoy a peaceful meal. Pack a camera along with some food so you don’t miss any photo opportunities.

Hi everyone! My name is Andy and I am one of the hidden gems who helped discover Hidden Gems of BC. My team and I have always loved eating ice cream and enjoying the view and we wanted to share that same excitement with you! It's always hard to choose where to go have some ice cream when you're surrounded by endless possibilities. The best place to enjoy ice cream is everywhere! Join us in Cool Town where we will give you 5 places with a view to eat ice cream and to stay cool this summer!
Alice & Brohm Real Fruit Ice Cream, Squamish, B.C.
Address: 1861 Mamquam Rd Unit 9, Squamish, B.C.
Tumblr media
Planning a trip along the Sea-to-Sky highway? Make the trip more memorable with some ice cream from Alice & Brohm’s! Try the blueberry flavour in a cup so you won’t miss a drip. Get the cone only if you’re a quick eater. Bring your puppies with you and park them at the special “pawking” while they lick the scoop dogg ice cream. Taste the real berry chunks as you lay down on the mountain and feel the freshness. Stay long enough at this view to watch the sun set behind the mountains and the ice cream set inside your stomach.
Rain or Shine Ice Cream, Vancouver, B.C.
Address: 6001 University Blvd, Vancouver, B.C.
Tumblr media
Tired of looking outside at the sunny weather while you’re inside studying? Watch those pre-recorded lectures later and grab some ice cream at Rain or Shine! Try the salted caramel flavour or add in the London Fog as a half scoop to experience a whole new flavour! Take a study break if you’re on campus at UBC and walk around while your ice cream melts. Freeze all of those notes in your brain with more and more ice cream. Come up with some creative ideas for your notes as the roses bloom at the Rose Garden right on campus! Sometime’s a break with a view and ice cream is all you need to make studying fun again.
Earnest Ice Cream, Vancouver B.C.
Address: 1829 Quebec Street, Vancouver
Tumblr media
Don’t know where to take your summer date or your special someone? Let’s spICE up the conversation with some Ice cream! Get the double scoop in a cup with 2 spoons so the both of you can share it. Before digging into the ice cream, head over to False Creek. Walk over the water on stones and walk through this mini-forest to get a view of Downtown Vancouver. Being on this nearby island will have you forgetting what time it is with the view and ice cream will be so good that you may forget what time it is!
Moo-Lix Ice Cream Shop, Kelowna, B.C.
Address: 239 Bernard Ave Kelowna B.C.
Tumblr media
Feel the side effects of ice cream after experiencing the side effects of the wines in Kelowna B.C. Stay cool by ordering the bubblegum flavour. All of the ice creams being served are hand-made. The smell of the waffles once you enter the store will have you ordering the waffles to go with the ice cream. Head up to the mountains and watch the sun set over the lake. Reflect on how much fun you’ve had throughout the day while you finish up your ice cream and plan out how much more fun you’ll be having fun the next day with more ice cream!
The Praguery Food Truck, Richmond, B.C.
Address: 1000-7899 Templeton Station Rd, Richmond, B.C.
Tumblr media
With Phase 3 of the BC restart plan in effect, watch more planes fly and land at this next location. Grab some ice cream from The Praguery Food Truck located in McArthurGlen Designer Outlet. Start off with the chocolate flavour. What makes this taste even better is the Nutella that is drizzled on top of the ice cream cone. Download the “flight radar 24 app” while you wait for the ice cream to check the plane schedules and daydream about your next travels. Let the ice cream help you think of where to fly to next! Head over to Iona Beach after finishing off your ice cream and shopping to watch planes fly into the sunset.
Go out and enjoy!

Top 10 Places to See Summer Sunsets
Hot Summer 🔥 + Stunning Sunsets 🌞 + Refreshing Wind 🌬️
= Unforgettable Moment! 😍
Hi everyone! My name is Jessica and I'm a tour guide and a co-founder of Hidden Gems of BC. Do you love sunsets? Today, I'm excited to introduce my favourite places to watch the sun go down for the day in BC! After scrolling through my camera roll, I've come up with top 10 places to see summer sunsets and wanted to share them with you :)
Before we go get started, I just wanted to share this very peaceful moment that I had at Iona Beach in Richmond B.C. watching the sunset. Although this didn't make the top 10 list, its a close runner-up location to watch the sun set and feeling the peace.
👇Here are the 10 best places to see the summer sunset around BC.
1. Thurlow St (Downtown), Vancouver, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
You can watch the spectacular sunset through the buildings from Thurlow Street. Every corner you turn while walking in downtown, the buildings may reflect different colours of light, giving you a light show! Looking up at the buildings reflections and then at the waters reflection makes you experience the sunset differently without changing your view.
2. Tsawwassen, Delta, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
Get ready to experience red sunsets at this next location. Located near the B.C. Ferries, Tsawwassen Beach is the perfect spot to watch the boats drift away into the red sunsets. Inhale the freshness of the Pacific Ocean as you wait for the sun to go down and then wait for the full moon to come out. Watch the lights of the ferry terminal shimmer off of waves that are coming towards you.
3. Knox Mountain, Kelowna, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
Growing up in Kelowna, my dad would always pull the car over to the side and get a glimpse of the sunset on our way home. Every summer, I would take family and friends who come visit up to Knox Mountain with some ice cream from MOO-Lix and just relax. Every part of the mountain offers amazing views of the sunset over the Okanagan Lake. This is the perfect place to relax after a long summer fun day!
4. Sunset Beach (Downtown), Vancouver, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
Sunset at Sunset Beach! How could we not think about sunsets in Vancouver without including Sunset Beach in English Bay? Sunset Beach is not as busy as other beaches which makes this spot the perfect place to relax and end a hot summer day (or get your night started). Get here early and stay during fireworks. Bring some snacks and have a picnic at the beach because you don't want to lose your spot during the Canada Day fireworks! There are lots of restaurants nearby to have dinner at or dessert. Make sure to get the window view for an even better taste of the sunset! After dinner, take a stroll along the water to burn off all of those calories and experience the twilight.
5. Porteau Cove, Squamish, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
From the Ocean to the peaks of the mountains, Squamish offers unparalleled sunset views! If you're up for a hike, hiking the mountains and watching the sunset is a must. But if you want to relax and watch the sunset, Porteau Cove give you a unique view. Watch the view get dark early due to the mountains blocking the sunset. Bring a telescope or look through someone else's who brought one because you won't want to miss stargazing hours after the sun goes down!
6. Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
The view of the Vancouver landscape from Grouse Mountain will never get old! Take a bus from Downtown Vancouver to Grouse Mountain if you don't want to drive up. Purchase the Gondola tickets and make your way up just before sunset to get an even better experience from a higher elevation. Enjoy some wine and delicious food after sunset and watch the downtown Vancouver lights from a distance.
7. Tofino, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
If you're on Vancouver Island or visiting, driving to Tofino may be long but it is definitely worth it for the views. Known as Canada's surf town, Tofino is the perfect spot to catch the wave back to shore and the sunset! As the days start getting longer, Tofino starts to get populated so make sure to book a place to stay (or camp) so you won't miss out on being close with nature and the sunset.
8. Okanagan Lake, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
If you are looking for a quiet place to watch sunsets, there is a place for you! Experience the sound of the waves, wind, and the birds as the Sun sets for the day. Be at peace with how quiet it is. Looking at the view from the lake makes your worries drift away and feelings of happiness come alive.
9. Qualicum Beach, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
Just 45 minutes away from Nanaimo BC, Qualicum Beach will make you want to put your feet in the warm water and a camera in your hands to capture this moment. Get artistic photos of the sky as the Sun shines it's final bit of light on the clouds before it goes down. You don't need to be a professional photographer to capture this beauty.
10. Capilano Suspension Bridge, North Vancouver, BC, Canada
Tumblr media
If you're afraid of heights, don't look down as you walk across the suspension bridge! Instead, focus on the Sun going down behind the mountains. The Capilano Suspension Bridge provides fantastic views of the mountains that surround Vancouver. Suspension Bridge is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vancouver because of its long and scary bridge!

Welcome to Hidden Gems of B.C.
Get to Know Us
Hi there, my name is Jessica and I am one out of three of the founders of Hidden Gems of B.C. We are a new company based in Vancouver Canada. Hidden Gems is a place for adventurous people who love to discover new places. We offer six different tour guides, so you have many options of what best for you to chose from.
Our History
It all started with myself and two of my best friends Andy and Lina where we met at The University of British Columbia. We all shared an immense love for British Columbia and all its hidden gems. The three of us studied together at the Marine Biology program spending almost every day for four years. When spending time together during our holiday breaks we took the opportunity to go outside and explore our backyard and travelled throughout British Columbia.
For one summer break, we all agreed that we would go out and travel British Columbia and find hidden gems, unusual places where not many people know about. We did our research and found new places to go and explore, but we were shocked at how difficult it was to find places that weren't very popular for travellers. We love the idea of finding new places not many people know about but we were also excited to share on our social medias of these new places to share with friends and family.
Not only did we discover new hiking trails but new restaurants, shops, lakes and many more. We thought the food was amazing at these small businesses and thought that these places deserved so much more attention. This is where the idea of our company came about. We thought sharing these hidden gems to people who share the same love for traveling and being adventurous deserve to know these places too. As a team we decided that we would start a business and here we are, officially starting our tour guides.
We hope we can put smiles on peoples faces and create new memories for people who enjoy the same hobbies as us. Join us on one of our tours, we promise you will have a special time.
- With love Jessica, Co founder of Hidden Gems of B.C.
